(00:00):
This past December, I had a realgo viral from that group of 12,
(00:07):
and it's still going viral.
And I started out thinking, thisis awesome.
But as this keeps going and thefollowers that I am seeing,
follow me, I'm like.
Is this a good thing?
Welcome to the Creative Bodega,a podcast about content
marketing, Instagram growth, andpersonal branding for female
(00:29):
service-based solopreneurs whowanna grow their business
without letting it take overtheir lives.
I'm your host, EM Connors, andeach week I'll share actionable
tips, expert advice, andunfiltered truths to help you
create engaging content, connectauthentically with your
audience, and turn followersinto loyal customers, all
without the burnout.
(00:50):
If you're ready to simplify yourcontent creation, navigate the
ever, ever-changing trends.
And build a business that worksfor you while staying sane in
this crazy season of life, thenyou're in the right place.
All right, I'm gonna wing it onthis podcast.
I have no script and no outline, and I'm gonna see how this goes.
(01:11):
It could be complete garbage orit could be epic, but there's
something I wanna talk aboutthat has been on my mind, on my
heart is bothering me, and I'mcurious what you would do.
I did a 12 days of reelschallenge back in December of
2024.
(01:32):
So this is a challenge that Ihosted inside my membership and
I actually opened it up to thepublic as well to gain interest
in joining the membership and itworked.
So I, I really can't stressenough that if you haven't tried
some type of.
A finite challenge.
(01:54):
So, you know, with a certainnumber of days, um, for free, it
really can bump up interest andit was very.
Clear and direct what it was 12Days of Reels.
Okay.
And mine were 12 days of Canvareels, and this is my third year
doing it.
So gosh, what my other ones, Ithink the year before was like
(02:15):
12 days of content.
It was something about acontent, it was not Canva
directly.
And the year before that wasCanva directly and.
I just have a lot of fun withit, but it's kind of hard, I'm
not gonna lie, because it'sDecember and I do it from the
first to the 12th, and it's justa busy time of year, so I'm
always like, maybe I should dothat in the summer.
(02:38):
Maybe that's like a July thinginstead, and so I might actually
run it in July this yearinstead.
We'll see.
In just this last episode, I wassaying that I'm not launching
anything this summer, so goshdarn it, I shouldn't do it.
I shouldn't do it.
But this is the life of anentrepreneur.
Like the ideas come and thenyou're just like, let's do it.
(02:59):
Anyw who?
Maybe it should just be morefall, like a November thing.
I don't know.
Anyways, every year I've done itthree years in a row.
12 days of reels challenge inDecember.
I've had amazing results.
Like I I, and who knows with thelandscape or the, the world that
is Instagram these days whereI'm getting like 12 likes on
things these days.
So, I don't know, maybe thissummer it'd be a good test or
(03:22):
this fall, but I've always hadreally great results.
I've always really grown myfollowing with very aligned
followers because I'm doing 12days of something that I wanna
be known for, that I'm an experton, and that I want people to
think of me for.
So.
Duh.
Content creation, Canva, stufflike that.
And this past December, I had areel.
(03:48):
Go viral from that group of 12and just one of them, one outta
the 12 and it's still goingviral.
So I posted it.
I actually have it up'cause Iwanted to look at it.
I posted it on December 12th.
It's actually my dad's birthdayand it is today May 16th.
You're not listening to thisepisode until actually June
(04:11):
16th.
So in one month you'll belistening to this and this
reel's still going viral.
What do I mean?
I mean, I'm still getting somany people commenting the word
that I told them to comment onthis reel every day in my
comments section, and I'm like,oh my God, how is this still
going?
But it's, it's calmed downsignificantly.
But I mean, truly it's goneviral for five months.
(04:34):
It's pretty wild.
And here's my dilemma with it.
Yeah, I know what you'rethinking.
What is it about What, what isthe real about him?
And that's what everybody wantsto know.
Share it with me, and of course,I'll share the link in the show
notes, and you can find thoseshow notes on the creative
bodega.com/blog/twenty.
(04:56):
It is about how to make 100faceless reels in minutes.
Why does this hurt my heart?
What I'm teaching is, is validand, and it works.
You, you can do this if youwant.
I would never do.
And, and some of the commentsare like, but would you have the
(05:17):
same video in every reel?
And I'm like, no, but that's howthis works.
This prompt and, and, and thishack in Canva.
And so you can go in andindividually change every single
video if you want, but it'snever something I would do.
Number one, faceless like.
Uh, I love showing my face andit's something I teach and
(05:39):
preach, and here I am tellingyou to make a hundred faceless
reels.
It's, it feels like it's goingagainst what I teach, and I also
teach, you know, I don't, I'mnot here to teach you how to
make as much content as fast aspossible.
The whole thing just feelsreally click Beatty, right?
And, and it doesn't really feelsuper authentic to me, and so I
(05:59):
struggle with it.
Let me tell you the other reasonthat I struggle with it.
Let me tell you the stats onthis reel, the insights, it's
kind of insane.
So I'm about to cross 10,000likes, which I always say I
really don't care about likes,so I don't really care about
that part.
Comments you guys.
Right now, as of today, 25,732.
(06:24):
Comments, 22,656 saves 4,956shares and wait for this.
This is the part that blows mymind, the follows for this
8,529, so I have gained.
(06:44):
8,529 new followers sinceDecember from this one reel.
And you're probably like, well, what's the problem?
Like what?
And you probably think I'mcrazy.
You probably think that this isthe stuff that keeps me up at
night.
Are all those people aligned?
(07:05):
You would hope because it's aCanva reel.
It's very aligned.
It's not like I went in and madea reel.
About like my favorite mealprepping recipe, like something
that has nothing to do with whatI do.
I absolutely wanna be known forCanva.
I love Canva.
I'm a Canva verified expert.
This is so aligned and so good.
(07:27):
And I started out thinking, thisis awesome, but as this keeps
going and the followers that Iam seeing follow me, I'm like,
is this a good thing?
And what I haven't also shared,so.
Beyond all those crazy insights,I have gained probably 4,000
(07:49):
email, 4,000 new emailsubscribers, so it has jumped my
email list subscriber rate updramatically.
Dramatically.
And actually, let me just tellyou, during the month of
December when I was doing this, and through to the first week of
January, actually let's dothrough the second week of
(08:11):
January, so during my, you know.
Again, I did 12 days of reelsand I did them I think pretty
much in a row.
Maybe it went across two weeks.
I maybe didn't post on theweekends'cause I try not to.
But let's see.
I'm just gonna add this up whileyou're here with me.
So during December, I'm justadding up how much my email list
(08:32):
exploded.
I track my week over week listgrowth.
So I'm actually just adding upeach of these weeks across
about.
Six weeks into January and18.4%.
So during this 12 days of reelsand during this challenge, I
(08:53):
absolutely was prompting peopleto download something for almost
every reel or comment somethingfor almost every reel.
And my list grew by 18.4%, whichis massive, like a normal week
for me.
Email growth wise is like 2%,something around there.
This was.
Drastic.
So again, going back to, I lovethis concept of this 12 Days of
(09:16):
reels challenge and it's reallysimple and ugh, the more I'm
talking about this, the more I'mlike, I should just do this,
this summer for everybody tolike get people like making
reels.
Like my membership loved it.
My community loved it.
'cause again, I, I gave it toboth for free.
So I do challenges inside thecoven.
Every other month, and I decidedfor this one, I would make it
(09:38):
public and in an effort to tryto grow my membership and bring
people in.
And again, it did work, but italso worked to grow my email
list dramatically, and in theend it worked to grow my
following quite dramatically.
So again, why is this a problem?
I just find that when my growthexplodes like this, like when my
(10:01):
email list explodes.
My open rate suffers.
Like when I get this massiveinflux of 4,500 people in a
month, they're not all superaligned.
They may be just one of that onething and they're getting out.
I just find the quality of thesubscriber or the quality of the
(10:21):
follower starts to go down whenI have.
A one-off viral reel like this, things start to get a little
outta control or they feel outof control for me, and that's
what I don't love.
And so therefore I lay awake atnight thinking, should I take
the reel down?
Should I take that reel down?
(10:43):
I don't know.
It's, this is kind of botheringme.
It doesn't feel crazy aligned, but um, it's bringing people in
and I've actually had people DMme and be like, um.
I found you through this reeland I love your content.
Or MI found this reel and Ican't tell you how much time it
saved me as a small businessowner.
(11:04):
And it's the dms like that thatmake me keep it up.
'cause,'cause then I'm like, allright, even if one out of every
25 to 30 is someone who's gonnabecome like a wonderful,
possible paying client of mine,is that worth it?
I don't know.
I don't know the answer to that.
(11:25):
I'm actually coming to you guys.
I'm, I'm wondering if you'rethinking I'm crazy or if you're
kind of picking up what I'mputting down and you're like, I
could see how that could be alittle unnerving.
Right?
So it's still up as of this verymoment.
It is pinned to the top of myreels tab.
You can find it.
I'll put it in the show notes.
(11:46):
It's still there.
But every time I see somebodycomment prompt.
I'm like, Hmm, should I takethis down?
So let's talk about why I thinkthis real is successful.
So in the beginning of the reel,I'm walking, I'm actually
walking into my office andsitting down.
So there's some good movementthere, and I have the headline
(12:08):
or what it is about immediately.
On the screen so you're notwaiting to figure it out.
It says 100 faceless reels inCanva in two minutes.
So boom, they saw that they gothooked in.
I have got captions like, youknow, automated captions going
along the bottom.
Why is this so saveable forpeople?
(12:28):
Because.
It's a lot of steps.
It's like a a, it's a goodamount of steps and it's a
little confusing.
So if you don't save it, you'refor sure gonna forget what the
heck I said.
So people have to save it.
Why is it shareable?
Because it's really kind ofcrazy that you can make a
hundred reels in two minutes,like.
(12:50):
You know, what's the quality ofthe reels, eh, I mean, like, I'm
teaching you to like share a, aquote, you know what I mean?
Or something like that.
It's gotta be something reallysimple for this prompt that
you're using.
So it's not groundbreaking, butcan it fill in a gap for a
really busy business owner whojust really wants to like, get
something out every week?
(13:11):
It can because I, I know it can, because they've reached out to
me and said, thank you, thankyou, thank you.
So why else does it work?
I show my face, and I think thatanytime somebody shows their
face, it gets people'sattention.
And I have it very clear commentprompt.
I have that in the caption asthe second line, and I have it
(13:34):
towards the end.
I say if this is confusing oroverwhelming, just comment
prompt and I will email you theprompt you need and my top
aesthetic video search terms forCanva.
So it's actually like quitevaluable if you comment and you
know, get added to my email listand, and get this so.
I just have noticed since I'vehad this massive influx of new
(13:58):
followers and massive influx ofnew email subscribers that my
open rate has gone down and myengagement has dropped.
You know, it's like, what dothey call?
I feel there's like a term, I'mtrying to think of, it's not
like the lesser of two evils, but it's like something like
that.
It's great.
And also maybe not.
(14:20):
So take from this what you will, this is a shorter episode.
I'm trying to do like a, youknow, little shorter episodes in
the summer.
Why Kids Home Summer?
You're busy.
I'm busy and I'm curious whatyou think, but if you take
anything away from this.
I would think about doing a 12days of something.
So again, mine was the 12 daysof Canva Hacks, and it was a
(14:40):
countdown from the 1st ofDecember to December 12th, and
it certainly helped bump thingsup for me beyond this one reel
that went viral.
I actually had decent numbers onmost all of the reels, so.
Think about challenging yourselfto doing something like that.
I think it can be verybeneficial for growth if you're
looking to grow.
(15:00):
I can't do beyond 12 days.
Don't even ask me to do a 30 dayreal thing, like I'll keel over.
That just won't be fun for me.
12 days for me is just enough toget in and get out.
Just will never commit toanything beyond that.
So that's what I got for youtoday.
Let me know what you think.
Let me know what you think aboutthe real.
(15:21):
Let me know if you would usethis type of prompt.
I personally wouldn't, butclearly there's a lot of people
out there who are looking tosave time.
Who would.
Enjoy your day, and I will seeyou next week on the Creative
Bodega Podcast.
