(00:00):
I will give myself permission torest, regroup, cancel a call.
Reschedule a call when I justdon't have the energy to show up
as my best self, right, insteadof pushing through and feeling
burnt out.
So it's not about doing less,it's really just about doing it
smarter.
And with more compassion foryourself.

(00:21):
Welcome to the Creative Bodega,a podcast about content
marketing, Instagram growth, andpersonal branding.
For female service-basedsolopreneurs who wanna grow
their business without lettingit take over their lives.
I'm your host, EM Connors, andeach week I'll share actionable
tips, expert advice, andunfiltered truths to help you
create engaging content, connectauthentically with your

(00:44):
audience, and turn followersinto loyal customers, all
without the burnout.
If you're ready to simplify yourcontent creation, navigate the
ever, ever-changing trends andbuild a business that works for
you while staying sane in this.
Crazy season of life, thenyou're in the right place.
You guys are in for a treattoday, guys.

(01:07):
Hopefully girls.
But you know what?
If guys wanna listen to this,I'm totally cool with that too,
because.
Menstruating is one of the mostnatural, amazing things that the
female body has done for all oftime.
And it shouldn't be somethingwe're embarrassed about and it
shouldn't be something we hide, and it should be something that
the men who are important to usin our lives understand.

(01:31):
So.
You might have noticed thatthere are some weeks when you
are on fire with ideas, batchingcontent, like a machine showing
up on stories like you're themost confident human being in
the world.
And then there's other weekswhere you can barely open your
laptop without wanting to cry orrage quitting.

(01:53):
Your business or for me,formulating complete sentences.
So that time for me is aroundthe corner, which is why I am
batching three podcasts today toget ahead of it, because I have
to.
'cause I know that next week mybrain will not be working as
sharply and I will not be ableto formulate words as clearly as

(02:14):
I can this week.
It's not about laziness, it'snot about inconsistency.
It's your cycle, and it'sactually completely normal for
menstruating females to havetimes of the month that.
Everything just feels easier andmore exciting, and times of the
month where you questionabsolutely everything about your

(02:37):
life and your business and yourpartner and your decision to
become a mother.
I'm just kidding.
I would never change my decisionto become a mom.
I always wanted to be a mom, butI wanna dive in today about how
cycle sinking your contentcreation.
Planning and your business tasksas a whole, as a female

(02:58):
entrepreneur so that you canreally stop fighting your body
and start working with it.
So this episode's gonna be foryou if you feel super creative
one week and then totally wipedout the next.
If you beat yourself up for notbeing consistent, or if you want
a content and marketing workflowthat feels sustainable as a
female entrepreneur.

(03:19):
So I'm gonna break down the fourphases of your cycle and how
they're gonna impact yourenergy, your focus in your
creativity, and how to align.
Your content creation and planaccordingly.
So this honest to God, couldchange the way you run your
business forever.
I hope it does.
I still remember the firstepisode I ever heard about this

(03:40):
concept.
It was years ago.
It was probably five years ago.
It blew my mind.
I think I listened to it threetimes and everything started to
make so much more sense, and Icould not believe more people
weren't talking about it to bereally, really honest.
So before we get into thisbreakdown, I just wanna say yes,

(04:02):
I absolutely believe.
In cycle sinking.
I have seen firsthand how muchmore ease and flow I experience
when I work with my body and myfluctuation of hormones instead
of against it.
But I don't use it as an excuseto not show up.

(04:23):
Let me repeat that.
I do not use it as an excuse tonot show up.
There are still weeks when thetiming doesn't line up perfectly
for me.
With my cycle, sometimeslaunches or deadlines fall
during my low energy phases, andI have to dig deep and make it
work because I refuse not to.

(04:43):
I'm not gonna say, well, I havemy cycle, so like, I can't do
that today.
No.
Like I committed to doingsomething, I'm gonna do it.
So cycles sinking is really atool.
It's not a rigid rule book oranything.
It's about awareness, notperfection.
So you still get to run asuccessful business and show up
when you need to.

(05:04):
You just get to give yourself alittle more grace along the way.
And one more thing.
The full moon, it absolutelywrecks my focus.
I guarantee the next time you'rehaving a really hard time
focusing and you know thatyou're actually in a high energy
phase of your cycle.
Check the moon.

(05:24):
I have an app, I think it's justcalled Moon Cycles.
I don't even know, but it cantell me immediately where the
moon is, and I swear it isalways a full moon.
I don't know why I feeldistracted, emotionally
heightened, and I have to reallydouble down on simplifying my
tasks and like quieting mynervous system.
So.
If you ever feel like you'respiraling for no reason, just

(05:47):
check the moon.
You're not crazy.
It's actually a thing.
Talk to any teacher who dealswith children on a full moon,
like something is in the air andsomething is different, and
that's okay.
So all right, let's get into it.
So.
The productivity and the contentbatching advice we hear online
is built on a 24 hour cycle andit's honest to God, designed for

(06:11):
men.
As a menstruating female, weoperate on a 28 to 32 day
hormonal cycle, and our energy, creativity, and focus are going
to ebb.
And flow according to thatschedule.
So when we try to push throughor force ourselves to be the
same every week or do the samethings every week, we completely

(06:34):
burn out and we feel frustrated.
And you know, if you're like me,you think something's wrong with
you, right?
Well, spoiler alert, there'sabsolutely nothing wrong with
you.
You just haven't really beentaught to sink your business
with your biology and your body.
So this episode is yourpermission slip to start
building a business around yourcycle and feel really empowered

(06:57):
by doing it.
So, ah, step-by-step breakdown, the four phases and how to plan
accordingly.
Okay, phase one.
Is your menstrual cycle.
That's days one through six ofyour flow.
A little mindset coaching here.
If you're used to equating restwith laziness, this phase can

(07:20):
actually be really hard for you,and it was for me to be super
honest.
But I want you to remember thisis when your body is literally
shedding and renewing.
It's a power down, power backup.
Cycle, and I want you to thinkof it as like your CEO week of
reflection.

(07:40):
What worked this month, whatcontent felt really aligned,
what can be let go, right?
But I don't want you to make anyreally big decisions during this
week.
Maybe you could use this week tosort of unsubscribe from the
noise, right?
Maybe you unfollow someaccounts, you clean up your
saved folders, your archivingold content that no longer

(08:02):
really reflects your brand.
Again, it's like a shedding anda renewing, and the energy's
gonna be down, and that's okay.
So listen to your body.
Don't push it if you can helpit.
Okay.
Again, I have launched multipletimes during this phase and it
was unfortunate, but I poweredthrough and I gave myself a lot

(08:26):
of grace throughout it.
So phase two is gonna be thefollicular phase that stays
seven through 13.
So it's right after your period, right?
This is when I brain dump postideas or podcast ideas.
Into my Google Doc that I love.
It's very non high tech and Iactually really enjoy writing

(08:50):
captions during this time.
I also like to look up or try tofind new Canva templates that I
could possibly use inside mycontent moving forward.
It's not a time when I amsitting down from scratch and
designing, and I am probably notcreating reels out of the blue,

(09:14):
right?
I like to outline or updatefreebies or workflows that are
happening, or maybe prep for anupcoming workshop by working on
an outline or just finding thetemplate I'm gonna use for the
presentation.
It's basically a time when I'morganizing ideas and when my

(09:36):
brain is really starting to fireon all cylinders, and it's sort
of a slow process for me asthese days, seven through 13 go.
So next is phase three, and thisis your ovulatory phase, and
this is quite short, right?
This is when you're ovulating.
It's only two, three days.
It's days 14 through 16.

(09:58):
I try to record my podcasts.
I try to batch any video lessonsthat I need to.
I am super into my voice dms onInstagram.
At that point, I, if I'm goingto tease something live.
Or promote something that'scoming up.

(10:18):
This is a great time for me todo that.
I am more magnetic during thisphase.
I show up with confidence.
I have a, and you have a naturalglow when you're ovulating.
Okay?
So I want you to lean intovisibility and connection.
This is wild.
But my husband is so in tunewith my cycle.

(10:39):
He legit will look at me and belike, you're ovulating.
And I'm like, how did you knowthat?
You freak.
He knows.
He just can tell.
It's, it's crazy.
But we've, we've just kind ofgot it down to a science.
And again, I share with him andI talk to him about it because
he should know.
Right.
And I actually have a tool thatI'm gonna talk about in a little

(10:59):
bit that keeps us both on thesame page as far as where I am
in my cycle.
So the time that you ignoredsomething or felt too exhausted
to try it in the previous phaseor two phases, now is the time
to really do it.
Go for it.
Try something new.
Try new content.
Try a new real idea.

(11:20):
Show up in stories more.
I would suggest if you are stilltrying to build up your
confidence to show up on video, this is a great time for that.
Last but not least, we havephase four and that is the
luteal phase, and that is days17 through 28 or 32, just
depending on how long your cycleis.

(11:40):
So this is a great time to startthinking about boundaries.
Okay, so this is actually thephase I'm in right now.
So this is a phase where I.
Start to really overthinkthings.
If I'm not careful.
I absolutely limit the bigdecisions that I'm potentially

(12:02):
gonna make in my business.
I focus on checking off backendto dos.
I like updating links ororganizing files, or writing my
newsletter.
Uh, I do like to batch duringthis time.
It's definitely like my get itdone energy zone, which is why I
am on my third podcast of theday, recording it, like I'm in

(12:24):
the zone.
I've got the focus, I've got theenergy.
I'm excited and I'm going forit.
'cause I know that next week asI start getting closer and
closer to my period, this isgonna go down, down, down, down.
And everything's gonna feelharder and I'm gonna question.
All the things.
So that is what I've got for theluteal phase.
Think about what types ofcontent perform well when

(12:46):
written during this phase.
I find, again, newsletters, I doreally well with writing
newsletters during this phase.
I do well with blog writing, butI do that almost every week.
So, you know, again, I'm, I'mjust taking this all into
consideration, but mainly thatsecond half of my luteal phase.
My menstruation phase are thetwo phases that I really need to

(13:09):
be careful about what I'mscheduling and what I'm trying
to work on.
Okay.
I would try not to start like abig project during your luteal
phase, unless you're reallyfeeling called to do it.
I certainly wait to do that whenI'm more in the follicular or
ovulatory.
Those are my two phases whereI'm like, let's effing go, like

(13:30):
let's get things done.
Right.
So use your cycle to map outlike a four week content flow if
you want to.
Week one is the planning andreviewing, so that is your
menstruation time.
That's days one through six.
Then week two, maybe you'recreating and batching, that's

(13:51):
your follicular phase days seventhrough 13.
That's where I am.
Like I have all the ideas for mycontent, right?
And I'm like ready to get itdone.
Uh, week three is maybe you'reshowing up and promoting things.
That's that ovulatory phase.
Very short though days 14through 16.
But what the heck?
If you can plan to promotesomething or launch something

(14:14):
during that time.
By all means, go for it.
And then you've got the weekfour, which is.
Like the editing and theorganizing, right?
That's the luteal phase.
That's days 17 through 28.
So how are you gonna make thiswork?
This is what everyone alwaysasks me, how do I make this work
if I'm on birth control or I'mperimenopausal?

(14:36):
I want to say if you're onhormonal birth control, and
again, I'm not like.
You know, a gynecologist orwhatever, I'm not like a, you
know, cycle thinking expert, butyour cycle's probably gonna be a
lot more regulated or evennon-existent.
And if that's you, I would justtune into your energy instead of
your actual period.
So maybe track your focus, motivation, creativity, week to

(14:57):
week, and try to build your ownrhythm.
Or you could also focus on thecycles of the moon because that
actually can work as well.
I've heard it work for otherpeople.
If you're perimenopausal like,hi, probably me, I am about to
turn 44.
Things can feel maybe a littlemore all over the place.
I'm not all over the place withmy cycle yet.

(15:19):
I'm super routine andconsistent.
But that's why having like aloose structure and giving
yourself some options week toweek can be really powerful,
right?
So it's not about perfection.
It's just about awareness andflexibility and understanding
and grace, if you're asking me.
So some of my favorite resourcesare tools that I use to help me

(15:40):
sort of, you know, stay attunedto this, is I have an aura ring,
OURA, I got it for Christmas, not last year, but the year
before.
And it tracks my cycle and it'sincredibly spot on.
It tells me when I'm gonna begetting my period and it's
tracking my temperature, andthat's how it knows.
So that's been a really, reallyhelpful tool for me to know

(16:02):
where I am in my cycle.
Every day I open up the app onmy phone.
It gives me a.
What day I am in my cycle.
I also have an app called theStardust app.
It's free and it is for cycletracking, and it does include
the moon cycles as well.
And the really cool thing is youcan share a code with your
significant other and they candownload it as well and see

(16:25):
where you are in your cycle.
Now, I would murder my husbandif he ever tried to call me out.
Uh, for being in a certainphase, he knows better than to
do that, but he can discreetlypull it up and look and try to
figure out if that's why I'mbeing maybe a little short with
him or like the way that he's,you know, chewing his gum is
really bothering me that week.

(16:47):
Some other tools.
Of course, I actually added themoon cycles to my Google
calendar.
That's an option that you cando.
I'll try to link that in theshow notes.
Somebody shared that with me, soI can click that on on my Google
calendar and see the mooncycles.
I also have added my, the daythat I get my period is a
recurring calendar alert every29 days.

(17:07):
On my calendar, and then when itactually happens, I just drag it
and move it to the appropriateday.
And that really helps me too.
I can, I, it's just a red spot.
I literally, it's a red circleand that's what, that's all it
says or shows on my calendar.
And that really helps me sort oflook ahead and know like, oh,
okay, so like that week I'mgetting my period, it's probably

(17:29):
not the best day to commit to,you know, showing up for
somebody else's community or myown community to chat.
Right.
Again, if I have to, I have to,and I will make it work.
I do not use this as an excuse, but if I can set myself up for
the most success, like I'm gonnabe doing that.
Right.
And then a, a book that is justlike phenomenal is in the flow

(17:51):
by Alyssa Viti.
I don't.
I dunno if I'm saying your lastname right.
But this was a game changer forme.
It was one of the books that wasrecommended on that first
podcast I ever heard about thiswhole concept that just blew my
mind wide open and I binged itand it was just incredibly
thought provoking andinteresting.
So.

(18:12):
For the longest time you guys, Ijust couldn't figure out why I
would have like a magical week amonth where I could write four
newsletters and batch a shit tonof content and you know, just
flow through creating podcastsor writing newsletters.
Only to crash and burn the weekafter and feel disappointed and
frustrated and insecure and allof that.

(18:35):
But then once I started reallytracking my cycle and aligning
my business tasks to match it,everything started to feel
easier, right?
I stopped trying to film videos.
The week that I felt kind ofgross and introverted and
bloated.
I saved all my design work formy luteal phase when my focus is

(18:56):
on fire and I finally gavemyself permission to rest or
maybe even watch a TV showduring the day when I'm supposed
to be working.
That like almost never happens, but like once in a blue moon, I
will do that.
I feel a lot of guilt doing thatfor some reason.
And um, that's my own problem.
But.
I will give myself permission torest, regroup, cancel a call,

(19:19):
reschedule a call when I justdon't have the energy to show up
as my best self, right, insteadof pushing through and feeling
burnt out.
So it's not about doing less,it's really just about doing it
smarter and with more compassionfor yourself.
So here are today's action.
Plans.

(19:39):
I want you to start trackingyour cycle using an app.
Maybe it's the Flow app, FLO.
Maybe it's just your GoogleCalendar.
Maybe it's your Aura Ring.
Maybe it's the Stardust app.
Okay.
Next, I want you to try to mapout the four phases and identify
what business tasks are gonnafeel best for you.
And each one, and everyone'sgonna be different in this, I'm

(20:01):
just giving you generalguidelines or themes of what's
worked for me, but it might notwork for you.
Try aligning just one week ofcontent creation to your cycle
and just kind of like see whatshifts right.
I know this is a lot ofinformation, a little like
sciencey and a little woowoo.
I'm all about the woowoo.
Heck, I mean, my membership'scalled the coven.

(20:23):
Come on now.

So you don't have to keeppushing through the burnout.

And it really starts withhonoring.
Your cycle.
