December 24th is a day filled with historical significance, from the first radio broadcast in 1906 to the tragic Italian Hall disaster in 1913. It's also the day the Christmas truce began during World War I and the day the crew of Apollo 8 became the first humans to orbit the Moon in 1968. December 24th marks the independence of Libya and is celebrated as Independence Day. While many celebrate Christmas Eve on this day, other traditions include the Feast of the Seven Fishes in Italian American communities and the arrival of the last Yule Lad in Iceland.
