The Hidden Mormon Podcast

The Hidden Mormon Podcast

Discussing all things Mormon-related starting with human readings of the Journal of Discourses - no A.I. Because I'm human, I make pronunciation mistakes. I also give before and after commentary - sometimes. I'm just a gal with a unique (?) accent that likes to read Mormon stuff. The JOD is public domain.

To the JS haters out there (especially you folks in the Church) - "a better man never lived upon the face of this earth." Amen brother Brigham. You have to listen to the entire reading (look for E7 ) for the reason why the saints were driven out of Missouri! Brigham dishes the deets!Music credit: Mixkit.co

This is a beautiful lens to recognize our Father in Heaven as an Almighty and powerful King & Creator and yet "the Lord Almighty is in the midst of all His creatures." We cannot escape His notice. He made us in power and wisdom. I don't think there's a stronger love you can have than that for the child you made. Think about that. Sample reading of JOD (1:39-40). Find me for full readings! "From the first day I knew brother Joseph to the day of his death, a better man never lived upon the face of this earth." Brigham specifically gives a true and brief account of Joseph Smith since many present at this address did not know the Mormons' history (I tend to think both saints and non-believers alike were to benefit!). Brigham delivers a powerful and beautiful testimony of our dear prophet. E7 Journal of Dis...

Heber C. Kimball gets down to earth with those of us who profess to believe but our actions really only show that we do things to satisfy ourselves and/or others. He gets real about the only method you can be saved, what it is that he and others have given up for their religion, and also shares that it's ridiculous to expect the spirits to have the answers to these last days, and more! I throw in a few Heber C Kimball-related p...

Brigham is often seen as a hard & no-nonsense man. If you have read any of his words, you'd know that he enjoyed music and dancing, that he spent his life being a rock for everyone, and yes, he had feelings too. There's a lot more in this speech that he touches on from answering the question of what is your duty to imploring the people to maintain an eternal perspective. Journal of DiscoursesVolume 1 Pages 28-34Brigham ...

Answer: Yes. According to the first and subsequent editions of the D&C (up to 1921), the Church admittedly did so. The lectures on faith was considered the doctrine and the revelations were the covenants (and commandments). Though I could argue that the revelations in the D&C contain eternal truths and doctrines, it's still a shame to have removed the lectures as they are "profitable for doctrine and instruction&qu...

Did the Mormons dig up a buried temple block? They sure did! They're the ones that buried it in the first place.

The temple foundation was not a ruin or intact infrastructure left by some ancient or recent civilization - sorry (not sorry). The saints were engineers, architects, stone masons, carpenters, etc. They were their own labor force. The temple was not "found" by them to use and build up. God provided and the...

Despite the theories that suggest the tabernacle was an airport terminal or an airport hanger because of it's dome shape - it never served such a purpose. The painted SALT LAKE AIRPORT letters and arrow served as a landmark for pilots. That's a pretty logical and practical thing to do when early aviation didn't have navigation and radar... Not so weird now, aye?

Yep there were 2 Mormon tabernacles. The first built in 1852 (no longer exists) and is where the saints met for a long time in the Salt Lake valley until 1867 when they started using the new tabernacle that still stands today!

Did you know that President John Taylor (an elder at the time) oversaw the translation of the Book of Mormon in French and German? Did you know he refers to being in France days after the revolution? Now there are some of you that will immediately dismiss Taylor and his experiences in this talk because it seems like it doesn’t chronologically line up with the 1848 revolution.. because it doesn’t. I had to do some digging and we...

Got questions about what the dead would say if they could speak to you? Do you wonder where your spirit goes after death? If the Heavens could look down upon us, where would they look? What would they be concerned about? Elder Parley P Pratt answers these questions and more in this very interesting talk. Food for thought.

I give a brief intro of Hidden Mormon and we get right into the first reading. Bear with me, it's my first episode, so I'm stiff sounding.

This is a reading of the Journal of Discourses Volume 1 first page, letter from the first presidency and the introduction page. The Journal of Discourses is considered public domain. I am reading directly from my set of books - no A.I.
