UU (00:07):
Sweeter than honey. Much better than gold. Searching the word.
See how the story unfolds in the Honeycomb Club. We
have fun with Max, Colin and Lena in the honey cast.
(00:29):
We will share a laugh. The Honeycomb Chronicles, honeycomb, the
Honeycomb Club, the Honeycomb Chronicles.
S1 (00:55):
Okay, did you understand that math lesson? Oh yes. It's
pretty simple. I was totally lost. Well, Mrs. Rodriguez was
trying to make it simpler by sharing that if you
break down the problem into different parts, then you. Guys, guys,
guys guys, guys.
S2 (01:11):
Oh.
S1 (01:11):
Hey, Max.
S2 (01:12):
Want to hear a new joke? One of my teammates
told me yesterday. Sure. Okay. What do you call a
dog that loves corn?
S1 (01:19):
I don't know what.
S2 (01:21):
A corn dog.
S1 (01:27):
Come on. Lena. That was a good one.
S2 (01:31):
Thanks. So, what are you all talking about?
S1 (01:34):
Oh, Colin was just asking about the math lesson that
we just had. Oh, yeah, but it's whatever. So why
weren't you at the club yesterday?
S2 (01:41):
Our basketball practice ran long.
S1 (01:44):
Basketball season. Huh? Yep. How's your team doing?
S2 (01:47):
We're shaping up, actually. It's been fun so far anyway.
What'd I miss? Did Mitch give us a new topic
for this month?
S1 (01:54):
Yeah, we'll be in second. Kings. Not two kings. Which
is what I originally thought.
S2 (02:02):
Well, I guess it does look like that.
S1 (02:05):
Yeah, I was kind of hoping it was some legendary
story about two medieval kings who go against each other
in a battle of epic proportions. Well, actually, the medieval
times came way after the Bible was written, especially the
Book of Second Kings. But Mr. Mitchell did tell us
(02:25):
that the book is full of stories. Yes, of epic proportions.
And he told us to focus on the life of
Elisha for our podcast.
S2 (02:33):
Rock and roll. Now I always get Elisha and Elijah confused.
Was Elisha the one that came first? Huh?
S1 (02:42):
There were two prophet guys who came one right after.
The other one was Elijah and the other Elisha. Oh well,
that's not very original. Yeah, it's kind of funny. But anyway,
I think Elisha came second. Okay. Mr. Mitchell said that
he was going to put something together to help us
get into the study of Elisha for today. Cool.
S2 (03:01):
We actually don't have practice today, so I'll get to
ride the bus with you guys after school. Great.
S1 (03:05):
Well, I've got to get to class, but I'll see
you there. See you. Max. Oof! The wind is chilly.
More like freezing.
S2 (03:20):
Shiver me timbers. It's cold out there, isn't it?
S1 (03:23):
Colin. Lena.
S3 (03:24):
Max. Glad you're here today. Pretty cold out there, boys.
Where are.
S2 (03:29):
Your coats? Well, I put mine on this morning, and
I guess I grew the past few months because the
sleeves were too short. So my mom told me we
could go get a new one tonight, and.
S1 (03:39):
I thought the hoodie would be enough, but it got
even colder while we were in school.
S3 (03:44):
Yes, I definitely think we're past hoodie only weather. You
boys need to take care of yourselves.
S1 (03:50):
Yes, ma'am. Okay.
S3 (03:52):
I'm just watching out for you anyway, Mr. Mitchell is
in one of the activity rooms, I believe he said
number 201.
S1 (03:59):
Okay. Thank you.
S3 (04:00):
Of course. Sounded like he was really excited. Can't wait
to hear what he has for you.
S2 (04:05):
Boom shakalaka. Let's go have fun.
S3 (04:08):
And don't forget to wear your coats tomorrow.
S4 (04:18):
Hey, hey, how are you guys doing?
S2 (04:21):
Doing well. Hi. Hey. What is all this?
S4 (04:25):
Well, as you can see here, I've cleared an area
of the room to make a stage. And over there
are some costumes, uh.
S5 (04:33):
Costumes and a stage.
S4 (04:35):
Yeah. I thought that I'd write out a little skit
for you guys to help introduce you to the story
of Elisha and get your creative juices flowing for the
podcast this month.
S1 (04:45):
A skit like a mini play.
S4 (04:48):
Exactly. I remember growing up, one of my favorite Sunday
school teachers always had us act out our Bible stories,
and it always helped me remember them better.
S2 (04:57):
Gnarly.
S5 (04:58):
No, boy, I'm not so sure about this.
S4 (05:02):
Let's give it a try. Max, I have you as Elijah. Colin.
You as Elijah and Lena. Why don't you read for
the narrator, and I'll try to add any sound effects
that will help.
S5 (05:14):
Uh, could I do the sound effects? Come on.
S1 (05:17):
Colin, you got this?
S2 (05:19):
Yeah. Come on.
S5 (05:20):
Okay, fine.
S4 (05:22):
Great. I pulled some Bible costumes out from the storage closet.
If you both want to go grab a robe.
S2 (05:29):
Sweet.
S4 (05:30):
And Max, be sure to grab one of those wigs
and a belt. It says that Elijah was hairy and
he had a leather belt around his waist.
S2 (05:38):
How about this wig?
S1 (05:39):
It definitely makes you look hairy. That looks ridiculous.
S5 (05:45):
What are these dresses?
S4 (05:49):
No, no. They're robes. The men back then wore clothes
kind of like that. Oh, Max, take this extra piece
of cloth and put it over your shoulders. This will
act as your cloak. That'll come in handy later.
S2 (06:01):
Okey dokey.
S4 (06:03):
Okay. I think that should be enough to start. Boys,
you want to walk to the middle of our stage and. Lena,
you ready to start us off?
S1 (06:14):
It was time for Elijah the prophet to be taken
up to heaven in a whirlwind. Now, Elijah.
S5 (06:19):
Wait a second.
S1 (06:21):
Colin. We barely got started.
S5 (06:23):
Sorry, but I don't know what a prophet is. I
thought that would be important to know.
S4 (06:27):
Oh it is. A prophet is someone who speaks to
people on behalf of God. Oh. Got it. Yeah. So
Elijah helped the people of Israel know the truth of God.
He even tried to help the king, which is why
he is in the Book of Kings. Good question. Thanks.
S1 (06:47):
Okay. Take two. It was time for Elijah the prophet
to be taken up to heaven in a whirlwind. And
as he and Elijah were leaving. Wait wait.
S5 (06:58):
Wait wait. A whirlwind.
S1 (07:01):
That's what it says.
S2 (07:04):
I always thought of it like a tornado.
S5 (07:07):
So this prophet Elijah, who helped people know God is
about to get sucked into a tornado that's going to
take him to heaven.
S2 (07:20):
Dude. That's wild.
S4 (07:22):
It is a crazy story. As far as the whirlwind goes,
some Bible translations call it a windstorm or a strong wind.
We don't really know a whole lot more than that.
S6 (07:33):
All right.
S5 (07:34):
Interesting.
S1 (07:35):
Okay. Take three. Mhm. Mhm. It was time for Elijah
the prophet to be taken up to heaven in a whirlwind.
S2 (07:45):
Sucked into a tornado.
S1 (07:46):
And as he and Elijah were leaving Gilgal they had
a conversation.
S2 (07:51):
Stay here Elisha. The Lord is sending me to Bethel. What?
What's so funny?
S5 (07:57):
I'm sorry. That wig's just crazy. Dude.
S1 (08:00):
You. It's in your.
S4 (08:02):
Mouth. No, it's definitely not sanitary.
S5 (08:05):
Okay, let me try. As surely as the Lord lives
and as you live, I will not leave you.
S1 (08:14):
So they traveled together to Bethel. Once they arrive, a
group of other prophets met them.
S4 (08:20):
Hey, Elijah, don't you know that the Lord is going
to take Elijah away from you today?
S5 (08:25):
Yes, I know, so be quiet.
S4 (08:29):
Okay, okay.
S2 (08:31):
Elisha. Stay here. The Lord has sent me to Jericho.
S5 (08:35):
As surely as the Lord lives and as you live,
I will not leave you.
S1 (08:41):
So the two then traveled to Jericho. And when they
got there. More prophets met them.
S4 (08:46):
Hey! Psst! Elisha. Yes. Don't you know that the Lord
is going to take Elijah away from you today?
S5 (08:53):
Yes, I know, so be quiet about it. Elisha!
S2 (08:58):
Stay here. The Lord is now calling me to joy.
S5 (09:03):
As surely as the Lord lives and as you live,
I will not leave you.
S1 (09:08):
So the two of them walked on. And when they
reached the Jordan River there were about 50 prophets watching
them from a distance.
S4 (09:15):
What are they doing? I don't know. Shh. Quiet! Bend
down in front. I can't see. Hey, now.
S1 (09:23):
I can't see. Then Elijah took off his cloak, rolled
it up, and struck the water with it. The water
split and the two walked across on dry ground.
S5 (09:37):
Wait. What? He hit the water with his clothes and
it split.
S6 (09:42):
Yep.
S4 (09:43):
Pretty cool huh?
S5 (09:44):
I've never heard of something like that before.
S4 (09:46):
Just wait. There's more. Max! You're up.
S2 (09:49):
All right, tell me, Elisha, what can I do for
you before I am taken from you?
S5 (09:56):
Please give me a double portion of your spirit.
S4 (10:02):
Oh, so this part is a little confusing, but likely
this meant that Elisha was asking Elijah for some sort
of blessing on his own ministry.
S2 (10:14):
Huh? You have asked a hard thing. But if you
see me when I am taken away, then what you
have asked for will happen. But if you don't see me,
it won't happen.
S1 (10:26):
As they were walking and talking, suddenly a chariot of
flames and horses of fire appeared and separated the two
of them. Whoosh!
S5 (10:36):
What a horse of fire!
S4 (10:39):
Pretty crazy huh?
S5 (10:40):
More like amazingly awesome.
S4 (10:43):
It was an act of God, and it's not even
over yet.
S5 (10:47):
Wild. Keep going. Lina.
UU (10:50):
And then Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind. Whoosh!
S1 (10:56):
Elisha saw this all happen and said.
S5 (10:59):
My father, my father, the chariots and horsemen of Israel.
UU (11:03):
And then Elisha didn't see him anymore and tore his clothes.
S4 (11:08):
Uh, what? Oh, this was something they did back then.
It was a sign of grief. But here, just pretend
to rip your robe. I'll make a sound effect.
S2 (11:21):
Really, Michie.
S4 (11:22):
What is the best I could do?
S1 (11:24):
Moving on. Elisha then picked up Elijah's cloak and hit
the Jordan River with it. And he said.
S5 (11:31):
Where now is the Lord, the God of Elijah?
S1 (11:36):
Uh, and then the water split, just as it had before,
and he crossed over. The prophets from Jericho were still watching.
S4 (11:45):
Wow. Did you see that? Yeah. The spirit of Elijah
is resting on Elisha. Elisha, look at all of us.
There are 50. Let us look for Elijah. Perhaps the
spirit of the Lord has picked him up and placed
him on some mountain or in some valley.
S5 (12:04):
No, don't send anybody.
S4 (12:07):
Come on. Please let us. Yes. Come on. We have to.
S5 (12:12):
Okay, okay, fine. Send them.
S1 (12:15):
So Elisha went to Jericho while the other prophets searched
for Elijah for three days. After that, they returned to
Elisha and said.
S4 (12:23):
We could not find him.
S5 (12:24):
Didn't I tell you not to go?
S4 (12:27):
Okay, Max, since Elijah is gone now, why don't you
read for the people of the city?
S2 (12:32):
Sure thing.
S4 (12:34):
Okay, Lena, let's take it home.
S1 (12:36):
Next, the people of the city said to Elisha.
S2 (12:40):
Look, Elisha, this city is in a great place, as
you can see. But the water is bad and the
land is unproductive.
S5 (12:47):
Bring me a new bowl and put some salt in it. Okay.
S1 (12:53):
Here you go. Then Elisha went to the spring of
water and through some salt in it.
S5 (12:58):
This is what the Lord says. I have healed this water.
Never again will it cause death or make the land unproductive.
And the water has remained.
S1 (13:09):
Pure to this day, according to the word Elisha had spoken.
S4 (13:13):
And and seen. Way to go, you guys! That was great.
S1 (13:18):
That was fun.
S2 (13:19):
Yeah, I liked that.
S4 (13:21):
Colin, what did you think?
S5 (13:23):
Oh, the skit wasn't that bad, but was that story
really from the Bible?
S4 (13:28):
Yep. I changed a couple of the words here and
there to fit this format, but all of those things
really happened.
S5 (13:35):
That's sick. Reminds me of an epic fantasy movie or something.
S2 (13:39):
I know, right? I didn't even remember all those things.
S1 (13:42):
Yeah. So did Elijah not die?
S4 (13:46):
No. God just took him up.
S2 (13:49):
So nuts.
S1 (13:51):
Well, what's the point of the story?
S4 (13:53):
Well, it's the beginning of Elijah Alicia taking over Elijah's ministry.
S5 (13:58):
As a prophet.
S4 (14:00):
That's right. As God's spokesman to the king and the people.
S2 (14:06):
But why was God done with Elijah?
S4 (14:09):
I guess I can't really answer that. I don't know
all of God's reasons for things.
S2 (14:15):
Bummer.
S4 (14:16):
But what I think is really cool about big changes
like this through the Bible is that even though the
prophet changed, God remained the same.
S6 (14:26):
Oh, I.
S1 (14:27):
Guess I didn't think about that.
S4 (14:29):
Yeah, stories from the Bible are really awesome, but what
I like to ask after reading or acting them is
what I can learn about God from this story.
S1 (14:41):
Oh, let me write that down. That's good.
S2 (14:43):
And from this story, you learn that God doesn't change.
S4 (14:47):
I think that's one of the things God has always
wanted to talk to his people. We were made to
be connected to him. And even though our sin broke
our direct connection to him, he has made a way
to communicate with his people always, even when that connection
has changed.
S5 (15:06):
Like from Elijah to Elijah.
S4 (15:08):
That's right.
S2 (15:10):
Boy, am I glad God doesn't change me too. There
are enough changes right now in my life. Starting basketball,
the weather. I even have to get a new coat
because I'm getting taller.
S4 (15:21):
Yeah. Change can be hard, but God does remain the same.
And he is always good. And I'm excited for you
to see more of how God communicates through Elisha. As
you keep reading Second Kings.
S1 (15:34):
Yeah. Me too.
S5 (15:35):
Max, one change I think you need to make right
away is taking that wig off.
S1 (15:41):
I couldn't agree more. What?
S2 (15:44):
This isn't a good look for me.
UU (15:48):
Honey comb. Chronic combs.
