Sweeter than honey. Much better than gold. Searching the word.
See how the story unfolds.

S1 (00:20):
In the Honeycomb Club. We have fun with Max, Colin
and Lena in the honey cast.

UU (00:29):
We will share a laugh. The Honeycomb Chronicles, honeycomb.

S1 (00:42):
The Honeycomb Club.

UU (00:46):
The Honeycomb Chronicles.

S2 (00:55):
So, Colin, did you do anything else with your weekend?
Not really. Mostly just played some video games all day.
You did that all day. I could have, but I
didn't play them all day. Sunday is the only night
mom always has off work, so we have frozen pizza
and play cards together every week. Oh, that's really cool, Colin. Yeah,

(01:16):
I guess so. What about you? Well, we go to
church on Sundays, and then a bunch of mi familia
comes over for a meal. Really? Yeah. There's, like, 35
of us all together. What? And you get together every week.
You must have a huge house. Well, not really. It's
not always at our house. We all just cram together.
It's really loud and busy, but I love it. Our

(01:38):
Sundays are very different. You can say that again.

S3 (01:42):
Yo, what's buzzin, cousin Max?

S2 (01:45):
Hey, Max. What? What did you say?

S3 (01:47):
I said, what's buzzin, cousin? You know what's up? How
you doing?

S2 (01:51):
No, Max, we don't know. I've never heard anyone say
that before. And if anyone would have heard it before,
it would have been Lena. She has, like, a million cousins. Okay.
I don't have a million. Just 23 on my mom's side.
And then there's a bunch more on my dad's side,
but not a million. Well, you have a lot either way. Anyway,
we're doing all right. We were just talking about our weekends.

(02:14):
The real question is, how are you doing? Yeah. How
was soccer practice today?

S3 (02:18):
Well, it was tough. We were all really bummed by
the loss. Even coach, it was hard to even try
at practice.

S2 (02:24):
I can see that you're not quite as stinky as normal.

S3 (02:30):
Thanks, Lena, but I don't really want to think about
soccer more than I have to right now. What should
we start working on today?

S2 (02:36):
Yes, let's get to work on Ecclesiastes. I thought that Mr.
Mitchell's explanation of what meaningless means is actually really helpful. Yeah,
and my hoodie still smells like a campfire from that lesson. Actually,
Ecclesiastes and the idea of life being like smoke came
up during our family meal yesterday. Tio Carlos is one
of the pastors at our church, so he helped me

(02:56):
take a closer look at the book yesterday afternoon. Tio
Carlos Tio means uncle. He's my mom's brother. Got it. Anyway,
as we looked at some of the verses, I felt
like it was a roller coaster.

S3 (03:07):
Sweet. I love roller coasters.

S2 (03:09):
I don't mean in a fun way. I mean, it
felt like one paragraph. The teacher is saying how great
life was. And then the next section he wrote how
awful life was. The guy seems to go up and
down throughout the entire book. Can you give us some examples? Sure.
I wrote some verses down. Okay. Right. Like here in
chapter two, verse 17, it says so I hated life

(03:31):
because the work that is done under the sun was
grievous to me. All of it is meaningless chasing after
the wind or.

S3 (03:38):
Like chasing after a soccer.

S2 (03:39):
Goal. And then it says in verse 24, A person
can do nothing better than eat and drink and find
satisfaction in their own toil. This too I see from
the hand of God.

S3 (03:51):
Huh? I see what you mean. This guy seems a
little confused. Right?

S2 (03:56):
And then listen to this from chapter 11. You, who
are young, be happy while you are young, and let
your heart give you joy in the days of your youth.
Follow the ways of your heart and whatever your eyes see.
And then skip to the end of the verse where
it says, for youth and vigor are meaningless.

S3 (04:14):
Yeah. I'm confused.

S2 (04:15):
Wait, what was the verse you just read? Can you
read it again? Uh, sure. You, who are young, be
happy while you are young, and let your heart give
you joy in the days of your youth.

S4 (04:26):
I like the sound of that. We're young and I
want to be happy.

S3 (04:30):
I like the sound of that, too.

S2 (04:32):
I don't think it can mean what you're thinking.

S4 (04:35):
Aren't you the one who says the Bible is true?
And the verse says, if we're young, we should be happy.

S2 (04:40):
Yeah, but I don't think that's what it means, does it?

S5 (04:44):
Why not? Honey? Cass. Crew. Good to see you at
the start of another week, Mr. Mitchell.

S3 (04:52):
What's buzzing? Cousin?

S5 (04:54):
Uh, how you doing, Max? How are you feeling after Saturday?
Looks like you had practice again today.

S3 (04:59):
Yeah yeah. I'm fine. Practice was fine, but we have
a new question for you. Yes.

S5 (05:03):
What do you got?

S2 (05:04):
Listen to this verse. You, who are young, be happy
while you are young, and let your heart give you
joy in the days of your youth. Does that mean
we should look for ways to make us happy?

S5 (05:16):
Let me look at that verse. Where is it at?

S2 (05:19):
Here. It's on my paper. It's from Ecclesiastes 11 nine.

S5 (05:23):
You are young. Be happy while you're young. Let your
heart give you joy in the days of your youth.
Follow the ways of your heart, whatever your eyes see. Mhm.
I think I see what you're seeing here.

S3 (05:36):
So is this verse telling us to work hard to
be happy.

S5 (05:39):
Well how about this. Why don't you guys make a
list of some things that make you happy. Like some activities, food,
stuff like that. Then on your way out today, give
me the list.

S2 (05:51):
Why?

S5 (05:52):
Well, I'll put some stuff from your list together. Bring
it here tomorrow and you guys can enjoy them. Wait.

S4 (05:57):
Really?

S5 (05:58):
Well, I can't say that I'll get everything on your list.
But yeah, if this verse is saying what you think,
let's put it to the test.

S3 (06:06):
Razzle dazzle. Yes.

S2 (06:08):
Yes, sir. Okay. If you're sure.

S5 (06:09):
Yep. If I'm not in my office, just slip the
paper on my desk. But I'll stop by the store
on my way home this evening.

S2 (06:15):
Will do.

S5 (06:16):
Great. I'll see you guys tomorrow with lots of treats.

S4 (06:23):
Okay, Lena, get that pencil ready.

S3 (06:26):
Yeah. First up, ice cream and gummy worms. Ooh. And
spicy crispies.

S2 (06:32):
Okay. Okay, boys, one at a time. I'll write this down.

S4 (06:35):
What about video games.

S3 (06:36):
Or a movie?

S4 (06:37):
Yes, which means we'll need popcorn.

S3 (06:39):
Have you ever put chocolate chips in your popcorn?

S4 (06:41):
No. But why not?

S3 (06:43):
Okay, put chocolate chips down, Lena.

S4 (06:45):
And how about.

S2 (06:56):
Max, I'm so glad you didn't have soccer practice today.

S4 (06:59):
Yeah, I don't know if I could have waited for
you to see what Mr. Mitchell got off our list.

S3 (07:03):
I know I can hardly wait all day.

S4 (07:05):
I didn't eat most of my lunch just so I
was ready. You know, Ecclesiastes might be turning into my
favorite book.

S2 (07:13):
Who would have thought?

S5 (07:14):
The honey cast crew. Are y'all ready to experience the
joy of your youth?

S4 (07:18):
Yes, sir. Of course.

S5 (07:19):
Yes, Colin, you don't have to call me sir. Okay?
Follow me. You guys made quite a list. I think
you'll find I got most of the things.

S4 (07:29):
Yes. Yes, sir.

S5 (07:30):
Yes, I set it up in one of the activity rooms.
I figured there was too much tech in the studio.
Plus there are TVs in the activity rooms. And how
else would you play all the video games? Okay, here
we are.

S6 (07:45):
Wow. It's all so.

S3 (07:49):
So beautiful.

S4 (07:51):
I think I might cry.

S2 (07:53):
Oh, brother. Thanks. Mr. Mitchell, this all looks great.

S5 (07:57):
You're welcome. I hope it makes you all happy.

S4 (08:00):
Oh, it does, It really does.

S5 (08:02):
Well dig in. You'll find the ice cream containers in
the freezer. I didn't want them to melt.

S3 (08:07):
Chocolate and vanilla. Colin, grab that spoon. I'll get these open.
Are you going.

S2 (08:12):
To join us, Mr. Mitchell?

S5 (08:13):
I'll be back in a bit to see how you
guys are doing. But I told Timmy I'd help him
with his math.

S2 (08:18):
Okay, we'll see you in a bit. Hey, save some
of that chocolate ice cream for.

S3 (08:22):
Me, okay? But can you grab those gummy worms off
the table and the spicy crispies, too? I'm gonna try
them on top of this ice cream together. Well, why not? Lena?
My eyes see it. I'm young, and it might make
me happy. Bingo, bingo. Give it a whirl.

S2 (08:38):
Okay. I think I'll enjoy them separately. But you have
fun with your bingo bingo ING thing.

S3 (08:51):
Oh. Ah, I don't feel so good.

S4 (08:56):
Me either.

S3 (08:59):
Could. Could you pass the popcorn?

S2 (09:02):
Seriously? I thought you weren't feeling good. Well.

S3 (09:06):
Maybe the salt from the popcorn will help soak up
all the ice cream swishing around in my stomach.

S2 (09:12):
I doubt that's how it works.

S3 (09:13):
Well, it's worth a try.

S4 (09:16):
I'm stuffed, but there is still so much candy left.
I don't want to see it all go to waste.

S7 (09:26):
Uh uh uh uh.

S4 (09:30):
It's not even tasting good anymore.

S5 (09:33):
How is the honey cast? Crew? Happy, I hope.

S3 (09:37):
Mitch. What's up, my man?

S2 (09:40):
Mr. Mitchell, I think we may have overdone it.

S5 (09:44):
Huh? You guys don't seem as happy as I thought
you'd be. What happened?

S4 (09:50):
Well, it was all so fun and tasty until it
wasn't anymore.

S5 (09:56):
What do you mean?

S3 (09:57):
It all just feels like a bit of a blur.
One minute we were chowing down on all the treats
and I was beating Colin in Mario Kart.

S4 (10:06):
Hardly a two.

S3 (10:07):
Second lead is a two second lead.

S4 (10:09):
Whatever.

S3 (10:10):
And then I think it all just hit us.

S2 (10:13):
Like a truck. Even my head hurts.

S5 (10:16):
It could be from all the sugar. You guys put
a pretty good dent in all these snacks. But you
didn't even open the lemon tarts.

S2 (10:23):
Yeah, none of us like those. They weren't on our list,
were they?

S5 (10:29):
Oh, yeah. That's right. Those. Those are my favorite. Hey,
throw me one, would you, Max?

S8 (10:35):
Uh.

S3 (10:36):
Here you go.

S5 (10:38):
Thanks. Oh, just like I remember.

S2 (10:44):
Okay. Please tell us what this is about, Mr. Mitchell.

S5 (10:47):
What do you mean?

S2 (10:49):
There has to be a lesson in here somewhere.

S3 (10:52):
Yeah. What is this whole thing remind you of? Please
tell me there's a reason why my stomach hurts so bad.

S5 (11:00):
Well, I think you guys already learned the lesson.

S4 (11:03):
We did?

S5 (11:04):
Well, I think you at least learned the answer to
your question from yesterday.

S3 (11:08):
What question?

S2 (11:10):
The one about the verse. Yeah.

S5 (11:12):
Do you think that the verse was really saying that
you should follow whatever your eyes and heart want while
you're young to make you happy?

S4 (11:19):
I thought that's what it said. But I don't feel
very happy right now. I mostly just feel sick.

S5 (11:27):
Well, when you first came in this door, you all
seemed to be very happy.

S3 (11:32):
Well, we were asked before the third bag of spicy
crispies in the one, two, three fourth can of cola
kicked in. Mm.

S5 (11:42):
Your happiness didn't last. Kind of hard to keep a
hold of that happiness, you might say. Like smoke.

S2 (11:51):
Okay, Mr. Mitchell, I see where you're going. But why
did the verse say for us to be happy while
we're young?

S5 (11:59):
You guys didn't finish that verse. The entire verse says,
you who are young, be happy while you are young,
and let your heart give you joy in the days
of your youth. Follow the ways of your heart and
whatever your eyes see, that's where you stopped. But then
it says, but know that for all these things God

(12:20):
will bring you into judgment.

S3 (12:22):
Bring us into judgment.

S4 (12:24):
That doesn't sound good.

S3 (12:26):
Why did you let us do this, man?

S5 (12:28):
Well, it was each your own decision to eat as
much as you did. But I did have a feeling
you would learn a lesson the hard way.

S3 (12:35):
A really hard way.

S2 (12:38):
So now we're all going to be judged by God.

S5 (12:40):
Well, we are all judged by God, all of our actions.
That's why we need Jesus. And yes, I do believe
this verse serves as a guideline of sorts.

S4 (12:50):
What do you.

S5 (12:50):
Mean? Well, the teacher is telling us to enjoy life
when we are young, but to do so mindful of God.
It's not bad to enjoy things. In fact, God has
given us so much to enjoy and that's seen throughout Ecclesiastes.

S2 (13:05):
But then he says in the next verse, it's meaningless. Well,
you guys learned.

S5 (13:09):
That, didn't you? Not so much that happiness doesn't mean anything,
but that it doesn't last.

S3 (13:15):
Doesn't last. That's an understatement, right?

S5 (13:19):
Not only does the moment of happiness not last, but
it often turns to a moment of hardship moments, feelings, situations.
They change so quickly as you've all learned.

S2 (13:31):
So the verse isn't saying two different things.

S5 (13:35):
No, though I can see why you think that. Instead,
it's trying to help us find the balance and see
things the right way.

S3 (13:42):
Balance? You mean like one scoop of ice cream isn't bad,
but half a gallon with gummy worms and spicy crispies
on top. Not the best.

S8 (13:52):
Spicy.

S5 (13:52):
Crispies on top of your ice cream.

S3 (13:55):
You know, Mitch, it actually wasn't that bad. Sweet and
spicy Smooth and crunchy.

S5 (14:03):
I'll have to take your word on that. But yes,
balance and enjoyment and allowing the good things to remind
us of the goodness of God. And when those moments
go away and hard things come, we can still have
hope because of Jesus.

S3 (14:18):
Totally rad.

S4 (14:20):
Does that last? What was that?

S5 (14:22):
Uh, nothing. Okay. It's time to get this place cleaned
up a bit.

S8 (14:26):
Oh.

S3 (14:28):
I don't know if I can get off this beanbag.

S5 (14:30):
You're gonna have to, Maximilian. Here's some water. Drink this.
You'll feel better. Let's start by throwing away these wrappers.

S2 (14:38):
I'll grab a broom. Someone got crispy crumbs all over
the floor.

S3 (14:45):
Guilty.

S4 (14:46):
And now we have to clean, man. Happiness is now
officially over.
