S1 (00:00):
Previously on The Honeycomb Chronicles.
S2 (00:02):
This is simply the best time of the year.
S3 (00:05):
Well, of course Christmas.
S4 (00:08):
It just seems like a big deal to everyone. And
I don't know. I just don't always like Christmas time.
S3 (00:14):
Ho ho ho. How is the honey cast crew today?
S2 (00:19):
Please tell us what our theme is for this month's podcast.
S3 (00:22):
I want you all to look at the Christmas story
a little differently than you maybe have before. What do
you mean, Mitch? I just want each of you to
think of something that you want for Christmas. This would
be the thing that you would want more than anything else.
And once you've decided on what that one thing is,
I want you to think through how it will change
(00:44):
your life. We can do that. Right, guys? You know it. Great.
And once you get that, come to my office and
share it with me. And then I'll share with you
the complete topic for this month's honey cast.
UU (01:05):
Sweeter than honey. Much better than gold. Searching the word.
See how the story unfolds in the Honeycomb Club. We
have fun with Max, Colin and Lena in the honey cast.
(01:27):
We will share a laugh. The honeycomb. Honeycomb. Honeycomb. The
honeycomb club. The honeycomb honeycomb. Hey, Mr. Mitchell. Got all
(01:53):
my notes.
S3 (01:54):
Come on in, Lena. Pop a squat. So what is
the one thing that you want most of all this Christmas.
S2 (02:01):
And how it will change my life?
S3 (02:04):
Yes. And how it will change your life. Correct?
S2 (02:07):
Okay, okay. Picture this. It's Christmas morning.
UU (02:14):
Feliz Navidad everyone.
S5 (02:16):
Wow, girls, what a Christmas. We really outdid ourselves this year,
didn't we? Can we eat cinnamon rolls now with.
S6 (02:24):
Extra frosting for me, please? Before we do that, we
have one more gift for our eldest daughter. Oh, me? Yes, Lena,
you are so responsible, so smart, such a hard worker.
We wanted to give you something that you really wanted.
S2 (02:41):
Mama, Papa. Thank you. What ever could it be? Oh, my.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. It's just what I wanted.
What is it? What is it? What is it? It's
the new Mario Slate two.
S6 (02:59):
Huh? It's the newest digital notepad, sweetie.
S2 (03:03):
I can write things down with the stylus, and then
it will automatically save all of my notes, all my thoughts, journaling, homework.
It can all be in one place. I love it.
S6 (03:12):
We knew you would. Didn't we.
S5 (03:14):
Amor? Uh, yeah. Glad you like it. Lina.
S2 (03:22):
And I would start using it right away. I would
write down all my school announcements each day, all of
my school and podcast notes. They would all be saved
in one place. It would help me be even more organized,
which would lead me to write even better content. And
then when I got to high school, they would automatically
ask me to take over the school paper, because I've
done such a wonderful job in middle school. And then
(03:43):
eventually I get a full ride scholarship for journalism. And
by the time I'm 23.
S7 (03:52):
Ladies and gentlemen, it is with great excitement that I
would like to welcome the youngest person to ever receive
the Pulitzer Prize, Catalina Rose Sanchez.
UU (04:09):
Thank you, thank you.
S2 (04:10):
I'd like to thank my parents, who have always encouraged
me to write. In fact, they gave me a special
gift many Christmases ago that I still use today. It's
actually what I use to write the piece that got
me this award, my.
UU (04:23):
Muriel Slate, too. I've worked really hard to receive this
award and I couldn't.
S2 (04:28):
Be more proud. The crowd will cheer some more and
then I would receive the trophy.
S3 (04:37):
Wow.
S2 (04:38):
I know it's a big dream, but wouldn't it be
so cool?
S3 (04:42):
It would be extremely cool. Do you think you'll get one?
A Pulitzer.
S2 (04:47):
Prize? I sure hope so.
S3 (04:50):
I hope so too. But I was asking about the
slate too.
S2 (04:55):
Oh, right. I hope I'll get one of those too.
It's at the top of my list. See? Yep.
S3 (05:01):
There it is.
S2 (05:02):
I told my parents it would probably end up saving
them so much money, because I go through a lot
of notebooks.
S3 (05:09):
You are probably very right.
S2 (05:12):
So now do I get to know what I'm going
to focus on for the next honey cast episode?
S3 (05:17):
Oh, yes. So there's a reason I wanted you to
think through something you really wanted. That's because I wanted
you to relate to the people who were waiting for
Jesus to come.
S2 (05:28):
Okay. What do.
S3 (05:30):
You mean? Well, ever since Adam and Eve had sinned,
God promised there would be a savior, a rescuer for
his people.
S2 (05:40):
Uh huh.
S3 (05:41):
And his people waited for a really long time for
this rescuer to come. They had big hopes and dreams
for what he would look like. Like you, you have
really big hopes and dreams for your slate too, but
you only have a few more weeks to wait to
see if you get it. God's people waited for a
(06:01):
couple thousand years before Jesus was even born.
S2 (06:05):
Wow, that is a long wait.
S3 (06:08):
It sure is. And there is a specific man I
want you to focus on who was waiting for Jesus's arrival. Great.
S2 (06:16):
Who is it?
S3 (06:17):
A man named Simeon. Simeon. Got it. You'll find his
story in Luke two.
S2 (06:25):
Luke two. Okay.
S3 (06:27):
He received a reward of sorts to an even greater
reward than a Pulitzer Prize. Really?
S2 (06:33):
What was it?
S3 (06:34):
You'll see what I'm talking about.
S2 (06:37):
Okay, okay, great. I'm on it. And Max knows what
he's supposed to be doing.
S3 (06:41):
Yes, Max has all the info he needs.
S2 (06:44):
And Colin, I.
S3 (06:45):
Haven't talked to him yet. Do you actually know where
he is?
S2 (06:48):
I think he's with Mr. Shades.
S3 (06:50):
Okay, thanks.
S8 (06:52):
Thank you.
S2 (06:55):
See you soon, Mr. Mitchell.
S3 (06:56):
Bye, Lena. Hey there. Colin.
S4 (07:07):
Oh, hey, Mr. Mitchell.
S3 (07:09):
How's Mr. Shades doing?
S4 (07:11):
He's doing all right, I think. Did you put that
little plastic Christmas tree in there?
S3 (07:18):
That was Miss Stacey. She thought it would be fun
to give him some holiday cheer.
S4 (07:23):
I don't know if he likes it too much. He
just keeps staring at it.
S3 (07:27):
Who's to know? I'm not sure if geckos feel any
special way about Christmas. Well, what about you? How do
you feel about Christmas?
S4 (07:36):
Do you really want to know?
S3 (07:38):
I wouldn't ask if I didn't.
S4 (07:40):
I don't really like this time of year.
S3 (07:42):
Mm. Is there a reason?
S4 (07:45):
Well, people are always talking about presents and vacations, time
with family and well, my Christmas is never really look
like other people's. Mm.
S3 (07:57):
I'm sorry. Colin. I'm sure that's really hard.
S4 (08:01):
It is. And I guess that is my answer to
your question. What? What I want more than anything is
to have a normal Christmas.
S3 (08:11):
I see. What is a normal Christmas mean to you?
S4 (08:18):
Well, of course, lots of presents would be nice. And
traveling somewhere fun would be cool. But more than any
of that stuff, I wish I had a normal family. Oh, yeah.
I just really wish my dad would come back.
S3 (08:36):
Come back?
S4 (08:37):
Yeah, he was in the army when I was born.
He didn't even see me until I was almost one.
And then when he got back, my mom said he
was different. And before my second birthday, he just left us. Oh.
S3 (08:58):
I'm so sorry.
S4 (09:00):
I don't even remember him. I just have a couple
photos of us together on my first birthday.
S3 (09:07):
That's so hard.
S4 (09:09):
So that's what I want. It's all I ever really want.
And I know that if he came back, everything would
be different. We wouldn't be so poor. My mom would
feel safer. And we could finally have Christmas like a
normal family. I'm just so tired of always feeling like
an outsider.
S3 (09:26):
An outsider?
S4 (09:28):
Yeah. Lena and Max, they have great families. They both
have two parents. They both always talk about God and
go to church. They're really great friends. And. And I
really enjoyed being here at the Honeycomb Club these past
few months, But I just don't always feel like I
fit in.
S3 (09:45):
Colin, I'm so sorry that you felt this way. We've
loved having you here. And for what it's worth, you
may not be so different from everyone here.
S4 (09:56):
What do you mean?
S3 (09:58):
There are people with stories like yours that you may
not know about.
S4 (10:03):
Really? Mhm. Like who?
S3 (10:09):
Well, mine for one. What? Yeah. I grew up most
of my life without my dad. You did? Huh? It's
one of the reasons I helped start the Honeycomb Club.
I wanted a safe, fun place for kids where adults
could speak into their lives and point them to truth.
S4 (10:32):
I didn't know that.
S3 (10:34):
It's something I really needed when I was young.
S9 (10:38):
Oh.
S4 (10:39):
That's cool.
S3 (10:41):
It was really hard for me growing up without a dad,
and it was hard for me to share that with
others sometimes. So thanks for trusting me, Colin.
S4 (10:52):
Well for sure. Thanks for listening.
S3 (10:55):
And I want I want you to know you're not
an outsider. You belong here. Thanks. In fact, that leads
me to share with you a group of people that
I want you to look into a little bit for
your next honey cast episode.
S4 (11:15):
Okay.
S3 (11:16):
There was a group of men we usually call them
the wise men that came to see the birth of Jesus.
S4 (11:23):
Wise men. Were they really smart or something?
S3 (11:27):
Or something? They were men who studied the skies. But
these men weren't Jewish or part of God's chosen nation.
They were somewhat the outsiders of the Christmas story.
S4 (11:42):
Sounds familiar.
S3 (11:44):
But that's what's really neat about their story. They were
invited into the Christmas story in a really special way. Really? Oh, yeah.
And it was through God's big loving plan because many,
many years before Jesus or the wise men were even born,
God used a man named Daniel to tell people far
(12:07):
away from Israel about the coming of a Savior, one
who would help rescue people from their sins. This information
was passed on for many years, until this group of
wise men knew to be watching the skies for a
special star, one that would be a sign to them
that the Savior had arrived.
S4 (12:29):
A star is a sign. The Bible is full of
crazy stories.
S3 (12:34):
It really is. I want you to read a bit
about The Wise Men, and think about how they might
have felt to be a part of the Christmas story.
Do you think you could do that?
S4 (12:45):
Yeah, I think so.
S3 (12:48):
Do you have your Bible with you?
S4 (12:53):
Right here. Okay.
S3 (12:55):
I'm gonna bookmark Matthew two for you. That's where you'll
find more about the wise men from the East. Okay.
S4 (13:02):
Thanks.
S3 (13:03):
And, Colin. Yeah. I can't tell you what's going to
happen with your dad, but God desires to be a
father to all of us.
S4 (13:17):
What do you mean?
S3 (13:19):
He wants to lead us, protect us, and provide for us.
Just like a father. But the cool thing is, he
can do those things and in the most perfect ways.
And he's he's not going to leave us. That's really
what Christmas is about. God giving us Jesus so that
(13:43):
we can have that kind of father son relationship with him. Really? Huh?
I realized that truth when I was about your age.
It didn't make me miss my dad less, but it
did help me have a peace and comfort that I
didn't know before. So if you ever want to talk
(14:06):
more about it, just let me know. Okay. All right.
You know where to find me if you need anything, right? Right.
S4 (14:19):
Hey, Mr. Mitchell. Uh huh.
S3 (14:22):
Thank you. You're welcome. Colin.
UU (14:27):
Honeycomb. Chronic colds.
