Him a fiery horse with a speed of light, a
cloud of dust in, a hearty hios tuber, the Lone Ranger.

(02:37):
In the early days of the Western United States, a
man's life often depended on the quickness of his jaw.
The local sheriffs were unable to preserve the peace, and
it was not until the masked right of the plane
started his great fight for justice. Law and order were
brought to the lawless frontier. Return with us, none of
those thrilling days of yesteryear out of the past. Come

(02:58):
the thundering hoof beats of the great horse Silver. The
Lone Ranger rides again home, Silver, how a flaming.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
For us on the sail ahead? We behinde, Hello, Silver Away.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
It was on a hot sunny afternoon that the lazy
flow of life in Canyon City was startled out of
its calm the sound of a dog fire. When the
townspeople saw the dogs involved, they realized it was far
more than a casual encounter. They emptied their home story
to pay to watch the latter. One of the two dogs,

(03:48):
a great black hound, was the property of Old zeb Trump,
and the other, identical in appearance except for its color,
was owned by Charlie Teelee. For years, the two men
had been rivals and bitter enemies. Everyone present was aware
that this fight if I had their hatred. Suddenly, Old
Charlie Tal, accompanied by the lumbering figure of the sheriff,

(04:10):
pushed his way through the crowd in front of the
feed store and ran toward the starling hounds.

Speaker 4 (04:15):
Lobot that himmyh Lobo, come here, hey folk, help me
break it up.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
Give me a hand, won't you shareff give me a hand, Lobo,
stop it your here, drop that fight in this minute. Pete,
give me that stick. You gott make it up. Your
low co pinners committed before one of your kills the other.

Speaker 4 (04:35):
That ain't gonna do a good Charlie, what are all
you went to stand around doing nothing for slam hont put.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
Over the cafe, then get a pail of boil on water.
That'll do the fick, you bet you, hey, Charlie, watch out,
Nick m zib thought you ought to know that. He'll
get his tongue to wagon from both ends again his hueserless.
We're on the.

Speaker 4 (04:53):
Let me work it out of my way, all right,
if you want to get prepper off pad aside.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
Hi there, what's the out you're sticking out?

Speaker 4 (04:59):
How your on mine? I'll have a long you, I'll
have your jails. You stop them dogs fighting right now?

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Look here, shut up. I tell you the something. You
go away? Since when you'll get the right start giving me?

Speaker 4 (05:10):
Or never mind that now hold on, seb you waity
careff where you been all the time?

Speaker 2 (05:15):
Can you hear me calling you?

Speaker 4 (05:16):
I was here for you and jailers, fellow Gord, damn it,
we're getting his dog to trying to kill my dog.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
But he didn't. Charlie and me was in the feat
store when the ruckers started. You mean to carry your sheriff?
Oh the hot water will give me there? Take it?
She's sure boiling? All right? Well, here goes on something
he don't dig to how his dog going? Eiwhere? However?

Speaker 4 (05:45):
Here Blocky, Hi, come back here, Blocky, you'll come back.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
Then. It looks like Blaggie's done. Scoot it for homes
ev When you get there you likely find them waiting
for you. Yeah, low board here God Brandon Plumb serves
you're right picking fights with trash. You'll beha who the
dog you calling? Trash?

Speaker 3 (06:06):
O yours?

Speaker 2 (06:07):
Who just pull? Why?

Speaker 5 (06:08):
Hell?

Speaker 2 (06:08):
F enough you too, Arlie? You had not who said
that theb I reckon to keep the piece. You better
climb in your buggy and get on out of town.
Ain't safe having you both here at the same time.
That make me go cherry pless. You make Charlie too.
Oh he's running along. Don't you worry her?

Speaker 6 (06:25):
All right then, but Charlie man heap for things to
be shuttled between you and me. It's here fighting, but
one of them nothing that said that you weren't the
cause of if it was all fire jealous?

Speaker 2 (06:36):
Tell us what are you what? That wretch or high
house fellers. I don't want to have to keep repeating myself.
I said to stop, and that's what I meant.

Speaker 6 (06:45):
And there if you get sure, But I guess daim
to tell Charlie this what nobody does nothing to folks
lesson they pay for it. Charlie too far. You've been
right lucky, But one of these days you will pay,
and when you do, you will be a mighty sorry man.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
Goodbye on a sheriff.

Speaker 7 (07:05):
Sometimes I think, oh, Zeb's clean local, and he always been.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
I've never seen you talk off him so strong, for though, Charlie,
what good Indie? They've done no good trying the smooth
things over? Has it? No? Well then why shouldn't I
tell the old Is it where to get off? Charlie? Whatever?
It's toddled?

Speaker 5 (07:24):
All this between you and two Oh, I don't know ever,
not know of I've been watching.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
It's like, well, I think you hit it right on
the head. It's like zebra's pies and jealous. Come mind,
when you bought that dog you.

Speaker 7 (07:42):
Zeb had to have one as near like it as
he could get. All the difference between them is mine's
white and his black.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
And when you built your new house, he hired every
hand he could find to build a bigger When.

Speaker 7 (07:52):
I buy a saddle horse, he gets one. Even tried
to bribe my forman to come to work for him,
because I claim Nate was the best cow one I
ever seen.

Speaker 5 (08:02):
Yeah, yeah, well, Charlie, I told you be running along,
so I guess you bet.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
It all right? Chare this as you say, and see
you again sooner. Reckon, come on, Lobo, Joe said that
you and he are going along wester Thunder knew it
was going to come with this. What was that you said,
Chare Oh, I wasn't talking anybody, just to myself. Yeah,
don't pay no.

Speaker 5 (08:27):
Attention to me, Slim. I just can hope and it
don't happen when I know dog going well it is,
Come on, Sylvia, get him up, Scar.

Speaker 2 (08:45):
Those will reach the top of the hills, Heller, you'll
be able to see both places. Ah is off to
the right, Charlie's to the left, about five miles apart.

Speaker 5 (08:53):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
You heard about their quarrel in town the other day,
that Gaimosabe. I think I mentioned it. Those two how
they own got into a fight, Tonto member, as few
of theirs will have to be brought to an end.
Maybe there'd be plenty of trouble if it's allowed to
go on. I'm afraid there will be. What lawman do?
The sheriff everything he could, Tantah, but it hasn't been enough.
Oh and he's been at a disadvantage. Why that, like

(09:18):
almost everyone else in this district, he's a friend of
Charlie Teal's. He tries to get along with the Zeb,
of course, but it's difficult for him to heide his
dislike Naturally. EB sees that and resents it perhaps being strangers,
we'll do better. Ah bad teller. He's a man whose
soul has been poisoned by hatreds. He knows that he's
as wealthy as Charlie, if not even wealthier. His herds

(09:41):
are as large, his range is almost limitless, a man's
credit to almost any amount at the bank. He's found
that isn't enough. What you mean? It's one of those
strange quirks of personality. In spite of his wealth and power,
he hasn't a real friend in the world. He knows
that day after day, year in and year round, he's

(10:01):
had to see Charlie secure in the respect and regard
of his neighbors. Well, he even can't buy a surface respect,
which explains I think is craving to imitate Charlie in
every way. Whatever Charlie does, Zeb attempts to imitate him.
He big pool when he learns that imitation can never
equal the real thing. Oh wait, oh, see that Zeb's

(10:27):
place over there. No, but this way is where Charlie lives.
There's a deep canyon dividing their range. You look where
I'm pointing. He'll be able to just make it out it. Hello,
what's that?

Speaker 5 (10:38):
He isn't that?

Speaker 2 (10:39):
Two horsemen and Ryan twenty pass in? Thanks? What't you think?
Looks as if one were chasing the other. See they're
about twenty or thirty yards apart. They must be following
right along the rim of the canyon. There. Come on,
we'll find out what's up. Get hit there him, Paul,
not right out of the saddle. Let's go. Let's go.

Speaker 3 (11:02):
Hurry boy, hurry.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
Easy there, old fellow, Make it easy, boy. We're friends
who we're not here to harm. You went out of
that fellow, Tutor, he's vicious. Let's see what's happened here.
That is where the one fellow he saw dropped from
the saddle. There's his horse over there. Ah, the fellow who.

Speaker 5 (11:36):
Shot him kept going. He headed into the mesquite patch,
then disappeared. Not right, And we don't see what we
can do about picking up his trail later. The thing
to do now is find out what happened to the
man who was wounded and tell her what matter I
think I can tell you now who that man was?
Who that look at the dog?

Speaker 2 (11:54):
Tator him Blackfellar. Don't you recall who owned a dog
like that? Ah? Her name zeb right, I've got an idea.
What's become of him? Here on the signs. He must
have been just about here when he fell, not two
feet from the canyon's edge. I don't know if he
was wounded badly enough he went over. You come, what

(12:16):
is it? You're look down there?

Speaker 5 (12:18):
Not too close to the edge? Chemist hunt you look,
I see nothing but those rocks below there? Yes, Tata,
well I see what you mean.

Speaker 2 (12:30):
What do you think? There has been murdered? And ah,
that man's dead, gone at all? I put him reward
and notices in his desk some way. The need to

(12:50):
be firm. Well right now, what mess Man'll keep your
hands from those guns? What are you missing? The hold up?
And I'm not an outlaw. I brought you news of murder?
What are you chair of? A friend of mine and
I were riding toward the canyon that divide zeb Crump's
reigned from Charlie Teals. From a distance, we saw a
running gunfight. One man dropped from the saddle, the other

(13:10):
rode on. We lost his trail on that malpie over there,
but the other we'll be waiting for you when you
get there. He's dead, yes, mass man.

Speaker 5 (13:23):
We thought he'd better not be touched until you could
get on the scene. You showed sense, so we didn't
attempt to get.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
Down to where he was. But if I'm not mistaken
one that man zeb crump, are you're crazy? Mister, can't be.

Speaker 5 (13:37):
No sheriff would mean that he was shot by Charlie
Teal lovely said, love Sheriff, we'll take you there.

Speaker 2 (13:54):
Had read path here only way to get down to
the bottom of the canyon. But it's almost worse than
no has at all. We're almost there, all right, Tammah,
he made it. I thought it was gonna bust my
neck a dozen times over. Now which way was it?
Mass man? Are you're right? Come along either way? You

(14:16):
know where you've seen him. It isn't far. Thanks for that,
but I'm thinking of climbing up again. That's going to
be a chore. He saw him in those rocks you
see ahead of us, isn't that right, Tunah? That's right?
Here's the place circles boulder here and we sheriff. He's
gone great. Are you sure this is the place? You
sure you ain't made any mistake? Look for yourself, sheriff,

(14:37):
this is where he fell. Yeah, yeah, that's who. Well
even so, mister, you did make a mistake. Yes you
said he was done for her, But he couldn't have been.
How we lived through a fall like that, I don't know.
But he done at all?

Speaker 4 (14:50):
Right.

Speaker 2 (14:51):
If he hadn't, he couldn't have got up and walked away.
But Sheriff, he didn't. I wasn't mistaken. He was killed.
What makes you think that he read the signs, sheriff,
Look at the bootprints? All be switched. The murderer came
back and carried him away. The curtain falls on the
first act of our Lone Range of drama. Before the

(15:13):
next exciting scenes, please permit us to pause for just
a few moments. How to continue our story. When the

(15:44):
Lone Range and his companions discovered the dead man had disappeared,
they lost no time in starting for the top of
the canyon. The difficulty of the ascent made it impossible
to talk, but as they neared their rim, they heard
a mournful sound. It reached them faintly at first, but God,
he became clearer. Yeah, you hear that, mesh man, I

(16:05):
do that funny thing. That's Blackie oev didn't have a
human friend in the world, mean animals he was too. Oh,
that's something the dog just don't take in their count
Mean as it was, Blackie's up there morning, I'm just
the same as if he'd been the finest sound we

(16:26):
ever wore outset leather, loyalties, bread and the nature. Sheriff
answers the lesson than that for us. What do you mean?
Maybe we should take more trouble to value men by
their good qualities, less to condemn them for their bed.
That's funny talk for a mash man, And there's nothing
to do with the problem we're up against right now.
That suggested just as soon as we reached the top,

(16:48):
rifle shots it down. Doctor, keep climbingster being fired and
us we'll be safe up about Come on, almost, sweet,
you climb me, help give me your hand, tunnel, aren't
we haven't much? Father? Keep going where with you? Here
we are? I'm all right up now? Then where is

(17:10):
that ambre? Where's he going to? It's impossible to tell.
If I could just get my hands on that skunk
apprate your wolf. But why have no way of telling
just where those shots came from. Ituld have been anywhere
over in there. That section's too broken up. It's been
days looking for Santa that gun and still not find him.
That dirty cry go he was taking on that go on,
mass man, I just can't say this. I can see

(17:33):
how there might have passed at Charlie. He just couldn't
hand it no longer. But why would Charlie shoot at us?
Him and me? Was good friend in a man's life
was at stake, he might do anything. Yeah, yes, I
suppose that's so, but still it. Yes, I'd rather explain
it by saying, Charlie going clean local didn't know what

(17:53):
he was doing. Is the Charlie tea line, who wouldn't
have harmed a fly? You're going back to town? Mm hmmm,
I have plenty to do. You better send deputies to
both ranches to make sure their owners are missing, and
send out one of notices for Charlie. Well, come on,
mass man, let's get back to the horses. Tada, what's

(18:30):
the matter? What's That's? Nothing wrong? Tenor? I mean not, No,
he's uneasy about something, Sheriff. We've traveled together for so
long I can recognize the signs without how to speaking. Mean,
watch back trail? Why Keemo subby? Maybe Paula? Paula following us?
Do you suspect someone's following Taylor or do you know

(18:50):
he is not? No ounder, watch keep watch Taelor. But
if we are being followed, try to do it without
giving yourself away. I suppose that Imbre is picketed to
be kept on our trailer, get another chance to finish
what he tried to start back at the canyon as possible.
But it seems to me, hold on stop. Those shots

(19:11):
fired back at the canyon weren't fired at us, and
I'm certain of it. Should have known at the time.
My god, Sheriff, where were we when we heard those shots?
I'm on that pair and we're still almost fifty feet
from the top. Sure those shots didn't come from anywhere
near the edge of the canyon. Oh, we could have
located them. What do you getting there? Those shots came
from a point at least three or four hundred yards

(19:31):
back from the canyon. One in that case, Sheriff, how
could the man who fired them have been able to
see us in order to aim well, well, mass man,
that never occurred to me at all. No to me, Sheriff,
until just now. You're right. But if he wasn't shooting
at us and he had another object, I think we
can be sure that anyone wandering around in that district
wasn't amusing himself in target practice. And don't talk outside

(19:51):
of target practice. You don't fire at an object that
isn't alive. But what other living object was around back
there except ourselves? The dog? If edy in crazy, crazy Sheriff,
it'll be too sure. There might have been an excellent
motive and we could just see what happens through the
eyes of that fellow with a rifle.

Speaker 3 (20:08):
What a dog shut?

Speaker 2 (20:10):
And a dog that wouldn't harm nobody wasn't bothering nobody. Well,
if you can make anything out of that, miss men,
and you got me let to a fraser, I can
see just one explanation, let's hear it. No, but you
just so the president sounds too incredible. Tarah. When you
reach town, it'll be dusk. We'll ride part of the
way with you. When we leave, we'll cut over to
that small patch of woods this side of the ridge.

(20:30):
What have you got in mind? You'll go on to
town as if nothing had happened out of the ordinary.
When you get there, do the things that would have been.

Speaker 5 (20:36):
Expected of you. Then deputies to both ranches. Get word
around that Charlie Teal has wanted for murder. But at
the first opportunity, m slip away from your office with
not being seen. Right, just as fast as you can
for the ridge. We'll be waiting for you.

Speaker 2 (20:49):
And then what and then cheruff, we'll learn why a
murderer wanted to kill a dog. All right, let's go
get up.

Speaker 5 (21:16):
Almost man, there should have been here. He doesn't arrive
within a few minutes, we'll have to go on without him.
Wait a hoarse maybe him now, geroff, that's two mantes. Man, right, Oh,
you're late.

Speaker 2 (21:33):
I had one decads of a time getting away. When
folks heard about Zipp being killed and Charlie Turnan kill her,
I thought they'd go crazy. I ask too many questions.
I just about had to take my guns to him
to get him out of the office. Well, now are
we going back to the canyon. I'm banking on two things. Yeah,
One that the dog will continue his vidual at the
point where his master met there. Oh he likely be

(21:53):
there all right. And two the tyler was correct that
someone was following us this afternoon. Smid got to do
with it. He was He must have been the fellow
who fired at the dog. And if he followed you
to town and he hasn't had time to return, return
where to the canyon? Why would they do there to
make another attempt on that dog's life. You're way ahead
of men, and let's hope the killer isn't way ahead
of us. You want to see justice, dune. Sheriff ride

(22:16):
like you've never ridden before. Come on your house.

Speaker 5 (22:19):
You must speak, speak softly. He was advertising our presence.

(22:43):
You're the borch that's that dog. Yes, we need the
horses here, but they'll be out of sight.

Speaker 2 (22:54):
We go. This way is where we're headed now.

Speaker 5 (22:58):
I want to find a place again. The old as
close to the dog as possible. Look comes back. You
have to get close himself in order to get good
aim at night? Yeah, and then we grab him right
yeah by these rocks. Very well, Get down, Sheriff can
do nothing now. But wait, mass man, is what time?

Speaker 2 (23:28):
Is it? Almost midnight too? We've been here too always.
You honestly think that Mbrey's want to show us.

Speaker 5 (23:36):
I know we will.

Speaker 2 (23:37):
How can you be small fired? Sutton?

Speaker 5 (23:39):
The dog is still alive. They had to kill him
before them. That Susy must still be just as great.

Speaker 2 (23:43):
And why didn't he rush right back he and get
it over with.

Speaker 5 (23:46):
He's possibly playing it safe. Yeah, I got an idea that,
just like us, he's somewhere close. But remember he's captured.
It means his death. He's going to take every precaution
to make sure he won't be interrupted again as he
was this afternoon. Likely, So be patient, Sheriff. It'll be
worth it.

Speaker 2 (24:03):
I'm trying, no, mess man, what's wrong to wish I
hadn't come with you? Yes? Boy, Oh, I don't know.

Speaker 5 (24:13):
I think I understand. It's the thought of arresting a
man who's been your friend, having to hang him afterwards.
Here you hit it, mess Man. I ever know someday
I was going to have a job like this to do.
I'd never run for Scheer. Loman doesn't have an easy
time of it, Charlie so.

Speaker 2 (24:30):
Much to go and play out of his head. You
look what's up?

Speaker 5 (24:33):
Question?

Speaker 2 (24:34):
What is it? Look there? The shadowy cot that shadows movement.
We got to wait to listen it waff.

Speaker 5 (24:41):
He continues. On that course, he'll come directly between us
and the dog. Yeah, that'll be the time for us
to strike. I guess you're right now. Silence until I
give the word. He stopped, mess Man.

Speaker 2 (24:55):
He's living. He's hamen to come on. You'll have to
let to have it, don't boo. I said, all right,
hit come Charlie, I'm arresting you in the name of
the law. Stand up and mesh mass Man. Well, he'd

(25:17):
Charlie's it's zeb Well mess Man. He had done a
job to be proud of this cool head. I got
handcuffed with a sad here's gonna hang. You kept everything
so all pirate. Zeb gave himself away when he fired

(25:39):
at the dog. And yet if possible, the dog had
to be killed. I don't savvy. It's clear enough the
murderer wanted the dog out of the way. It had
to be for a reason. There was just one thing
the killer was worrying about, then, discovery and capture. Sure
old grant that ever owned a black dog, we knew
either zeba Charlie had been killed. Naturally, when we saw
a black dog mourning the death of its master, we
assumed that Zeb had been victim and Charlie the murderer.

(26:02):
But in that case, how could Zeb's dog give Charlie away.
Charlie was already known to be the killer. The dog's
death would have gained him nothing. That's where I was pleased.
Only one possibility remained. If Charlie had nothing to gain
by the dog's death, then Zeb did. And if Zeb
had something to gain, then he was still alive and
Charlie had died. But the black dog wasn't black. His
coat had been dyed. You will learn. I'm right, well, dog,

(26:25):
it was a perfect class. You would send out a
description of Charlie as the murderer, not Zeb. Zeb once
he was out of the territory where he was known,
would have been perfectly safe. But first before he left
he had to get rid of the dog, so I
would never find out the trick he played. That's the answer, Sheriff. Yep,
and someday we may meet again. He hold on, now

(26:50):
I want you cleared out. Well, Zeb, you ain't leaving.
Hang onto the saddle, your head for the canabus. You
up it a pivo. The story you have just heard
