Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the Low Life Show, a space where we have
conversations about thestruggles of life, where we

a surrendered heart.
Where we take our past failuresand turn them into a roadmap
for you to live in peace andliving the low life.
Whether you're working throughpersonal struggles or simply

(00:22):
seeking a fresh perspective, this podcast will inspire and
equip you to live low and letGod lift you up.
I'm your host, dl the Low Life,a reformed professional dirtbag
who's here to tell you that Inow live a life of peace,
transformed through humility.
Join me, let's get low what'sgood.

(01:16):
Welcome back to the Low LifeShow.
It's me, dl the Low Life, andtoday we're getting into one of
the most overcomplicated partsof living low Prayer.
Now, if you're anything like me,you've probably had the wrong
ideas about prayer at some pointin your life, maybe thinking
you had to have the right words, the perfect life, maybe even
the perfect pitch or volume.
Here's the truth.

(01:37):
God doesn't care about any ofthat.
Prayer is about therelationship with you, talking
to your father.
It's about being real with himand letting him shape your heart
.
It's about wanting his input inall things and just wanting him
around.
So let's get into it how to getlow and shake off the pressure
through prayer and how to lethim do all the heavy lifting.

(02:00):
Today we're going to start atthe heart of it the Lord's
Prayer, jesus.
At the request of his disciples, he left us a master class on

(02:23):
prayer in Matthew 6.
He starts with calling outhypocrites, people who love to
pray in public just to showeveryone how holy they are.
Then he says, when you pray, gointo your room, close the door
and pray to your father.
That right, there is humility.
But he follows that with theLord's prayer, and I know mostly
you can recite it in your sleep.
But I wonder how many havelooked into it, really dove into

(02:44):
it, looked at the intent andaction behind the words.
If you have, it's a refresher.
If you haven't, you're in for atreat.
Let's break it down.
It starts with Our Father inheaven.
Hallowed be your name.
This is the beginning ofsetting your posture.
It sets the direction, it setsthe beginning and it sets the
tone for the rest of your prayer.
It acknowledges God as thedirection, it sets the beginning

(03:04):
and it sets the tone for therest of your prayer.
It acknowledges God as theFather, it acknowledges where he
resides, it points your heartto Him and it shows you how you
should revere Him.
It places Him above all thingsin your heart.
Hallowed be your name.
Your name is greater than mine.
You're in heaven, so you areabove me, physically, powerfully

(03:26):
, and you're our father.
So I am just, but a lowly child.
The next part is your kingdomcome, your will be done.
This sets expectation.
I know a lot of times, myselfincluded, we walk into prayer
with an expectation that he'sgoing to give us what we ask for
Though that is true, I mean, itdoes say it in the scripture
where two or more are gatheredand agree here on earth, father

(03:50):
in heaven will grant it.
But here, your kingdom come, your will be done.
It's showing us even more.
It's asking for a heavenlyenvironment.
It's asking for his kingdom, and then it's expecting his will
to be done, not just expectingit, but declaring it.
So we should want his kingdom,we should want his will as a

(04:10):
result of our prayer.
We shouldn't want that new car, that new house, that girl down
the block who had the big butt.
That's not it His kingdom come, his will be done.
Our preferences, our wants, ourdesires.
He already knows our hearts.
So when we come into prayer andwe're asking and asking and

(04:36):
asking, no care whatsoever abouthis will that could contribute
to the result of the prayer whatit is you feel like is answered
and not answered.
The next part says give us todayour daily bread.
This is a surrenderSurrendering control, knowing
and relying on God as theprovider, as the sustainer.
It's depending on Him for thevery being of our lives, keeping

(05:01):
us upright, keeping usnourished daily.
It goes on to say forgive us aswe forgive others.
This is honesty, this ishumility, this is showing that
you know you're a sinner, thatyou know you need forgiveness,
that you know you're not perfectand that you are willing and

(05:21):
able and currently acting in away that is pleasing to him.
You're surrendered and you areforgiving others that offend you
.
You're not coming to himwithholding forgiveness and
asking him for forgiveness.
It does say when you forgive, the Father in heaven can forgive
you.
It's humbly asking him forforgiveness and reminding us

(05:42):
that we shouldn't expect anymore than we give as well.
If we're unwilling to forgive,we shouldn't really be expecting
him to forgive us.
Then it says lead us not intotemptation, but deliver us from
evil.
This, this right here, is theone.
This is calling on God to saveus.

(06:02):
This is humbling ourselvesagain, taking another low
posture, one of a damsel indistress.
It shows him we know we can'tsave ourselves, we know we can't
do it on our own.
Deliver us from evil.
Then we move on to our secondparable, the persistent in Luke

(06:23):
18.
Luke 18 begins Now.

(06:49):
He was telling them a parableto show that at all times they
ought to pray and not becomediscouraged.
No-transcript.
Now there was a widow in thatcity and she kept coming to him
saying Give me justice againstmy opponent.
For a while he was unwilling, but later he said to himself
Even though I do not fear Godnor respect any person, yet
because this widow is botheringme, I will give her justice,

(07:12):
otherwise, by continually coming, she will wear me out.
And the Lord said Listen towhat the unrighteous judge said.
Now will God not bring aboutjustice for his elect, who cry
out to him day and night, andwill he delay, long for them?
Tell you that he will bringabout justice for them quickly.
However, when the Son of mancomes, will he find faith on the

(07:34):
earth?
Jesus tells the story of thewidow who keeps asking for an
unjust judge, for justice, eventhough the judge doesn't care
about people, doesn't care aboutGod, has zero fear or respect
for anyone or anything.
Eventually he gives in becauseof her persistence.
This is the Thessalonians' callto pray continually.

(07:55):
This is pray without ceasing.
This is this is pray withoutceasing.
This is praying at all times.
The lesson is it takes humility.
Humility and prayer meansrecognizing that we're powerless
without god and coming to himpersistently, trusting that he
hears us can eventually lead tothat breakthrough.

(08:15):
It's not about demandinganswers.
It's about staying connected toHim in faith, even when the
answers seem delayed.
Now remember, this widow wasseeking justice.
Again, she wasn't seekingearthly, worldly pleasures,
desires.
She wanted justice and we servea just God.
So don't be discouraged, justcontinue to pray.

(08:39):
Ask yourself every time inprayer.
If you find yourself in asituation where you have an
unanswered prayer, ask yourselfabout what it is that you wanted
.
What's your goal, your motive, your intention, your posture?
Sometimes pride could be sneakyin there and make it look like
you're doing all the righteousthings, while blinding you to
what is really wrong in yourposture.

(08:59):
Now, prayer is important to me.
Like I've told you.
It's the very reason why I'mhere, why I'm alive Through all
of my life unraveling in mydownward spiral, why I'm alive

(09:22):
Through all of my lifeunraveling in my downward spiral
.
I didn't know it at the time, but I had people praying for me,
praying fervently, praying withpassion, praying with faith and
belief and a want to seeanother son back in the kingdom,
to see a life saved, to seeGod's love transform.
I didn't see that fullyculminated until one day I was
in a prayer room.
It was the very first time I'dever gone there.

(09:43):
Prior to this, I was sitting ona couch wanting to kill myself.
What I did that day wassurrender.
What I did that day was trust.
What I did that day wassomething that I'd never done in
my life.
I've always been a I'd ratherdie on my feet than live on my
knees kind of guy.
I had always used prayer as afire extinguisher, only in
crisis, only to get my way.

(10:03):
Like I was Aladdin and God wasthe genie, prayer was my lamp.
After the surrender that daywhere I ended up on my knees
giving everything to God, that'swhen my prayer life was set on
fire.
What really cemented the waythat I feel about it, the way
that I participate in it, theway that I seek after Him in
prayer.
It happened one day, maybeabout a month or two after that

(10:26):
time, in the prayer room, when Ihit my knees.
I was sitting in a prayermeeting and I remember, as
someone else was praying, I feltovercome with this question.
God was tugging on me aboutasking me do they want me or do
they just want what I can do forthem?
It was impactful because Ididn't even question that myself

(10:48):
when I would pray.
Granted, I felt as though I wasunworthy to ask for prayers for
myself, but I always had faithto pray for other people.
It just felt good because Iknew that prayer is what brought
me.
Prayer is what saved me.
I had the attitude of God, ifyou could do it for me, I would
love for you to do it for them, because I know you can.
Anyways, as days and weeks wenton, I found myself deep in study

(11:11):
.
I went through every prayer inthe Bible.
I digested other resources, books written by other authors
with their revelations of prayer, what they've learned from
their studies.
I combined all that knowledge.
I sat and I listened and I wasdiscipled by prayers of others.
In the prayer meetings Iattended, this is what I've
learned.

(11:31):
Prayer is not designed for us tobend God to our wills or to get
us what we want.
Its sole purpose is to show us,to teach us, to give us the
opportunity to align to his will.
It's a gift, to help ease usinto it.
But we use it like we're sayinginstead of your kingdom, come,
your will be done, we're sayingGod, our kingdom, come, our will

(11:53):
be done.
Also, thank you.
This has informed how I pray.
Now I expect that His will isgoing to be done and I have
faith and confidence, knowingthat, being aligned to him, he
can, if he wants to, if itpleases him, as it says in the
psalm, he can do what I ask anda lot more.
I encourage each of you to lookinto every prayer prayed in the
bible.
See how many are trying to getGod to do what they want.

(12:15):
See where their heart'sintention is.
See what their posture truly is.
See where God's alignment andhis will are.
You'll find that it's not goingto be asking about the Cadillac
down the street.
See what they actually consistof the elements.
Jesus himself only ever prayedonce to ask for his want, and
even then he still prayed God'swill, not his.

(12:36):
This was in Gethsemane.
Even as he was in pain to thepoint of sweating blood, he knew
that his wants were secondaryto the Father's will.
There are two other times thathe's noted to have prayed for
himself, but you couldn't evenreally stretch that, because
both times he's asking Father, glorify me so that I may glorify
you.
The be-all and the end-all hereis his intention, his goal, his

(13:01):
ambition, everything resides inGod's will.
The best part of this revelation, though, of all of it, of all
the study of everything thatI've done leading to this point,
everything God's led me throughto this point, is less pressure
on prayer.
I don't find myselfdisappointed with him ever.
My faith remains unwavering.
I also never have to deal withthe dreaded unanswered prayer

(13:23):
because I know that he alwaysanswers.
It's my will that might be off,not His sovereignty.
God will always reign supreme.
He always answers prayer.
Just remember, in the psalm itsays the Lord does what pleases
Him, and the Lord's prayer saysyour kingdom come, your will be

(13:43):
done.
God never breaks a promise, andhe's already promised to hear
us by Jesus ascending.
We have the high priest upthere who can mediate, who
instructs us that we canapproach the throne of grace
confident that we will be heard.
So how is this applied?
It doesn't require much.
It's not a ton of words orcrazy biblical knowledge, just a

(14:08):
posture that says, father, Iwant a relationship with you, I
want to do what you do, I wantto help you get your stuff done,
use me.
It's a humble approach, like alittle kid to his dad Dad, let's
go play, dad, let's go do this, tugging at his pants at all
times.
And it could sound something assimple as thank you God,
knowing in your heart, in yourmind, everything pointed to his

(14:35):
supremacy.
Thank him for something youusually give yourself credit for
today, and then begin to addmore things to that list.
That's practical.
Application to what prayer isDoesn't have to be complicated,
unless you're comparing yourrelationship to God with
somebody else and trying tomodel yours after theirs.
We're not the same people.
We don't have the samepreferences.
Our relationships are going tobe different.
They are with people.
They will be with God, not Histowards us, but ours towards Him

(14:58):
.
We're all in different places, all right.
Pause for the Cause WeeklyChallenge.
Here it is Spend five minutesin prayer this week, every day,
nothing in the way, nodistractions, just you and God.

(15:20):
And then sit and ponder on theLord's prayer in those five
minutes.
Offer up to Him what's going onin your heart, let Him know
what you're thinking, whatyou're wanting, what you're
desiring, but then invite Himinto guiding you, into learning
what's on His heart and writedown whatever he might reveal.
Thank you for hanging out today.

(15:40):
Remember, prayer is the backboneof living low.
It's your superpower.
It's where you connect with Godand let Him do the work in your
heart.
This is what gets you alignedto His will.
This is what gets youeverything that you really need
and reminds you of the thingsthat you don't need, even though
you want them.
Let's pray.
Father, we thank you for theability, the opportunity and the
honor and privilege of beingable to speak to you.

(16:01):
Thank the opportunity and thehonor and privilege of being
able to speak to you.
Thank you that you are a Godthat hears.
We thank you that you supplyour every need.
Humble us this week as we learnmore and more how to grow steps
and steps and steps closer toyou and how to seek after you
and want your will more than ourown.
Bless the listener, continue tohelp them grow In your mighty,

(16:22):
mighty name, amen.
Next week we're talking aboutposition how to trust God when
he places you somewhere thatdoesn't make sense.
Until then, stay low, stayblessed and stay ready for the
next episode of the Low LifeShow.
Peace, thank you.
