It’s a jam-packed edition of The Morning Brew with Chris Bennett & Best Friends as we spotlight this week’s Country Climb Star of the Week: Austin Burke — a Scottsdale native turned Nashville powerhouse whose viral songs and Playlisted podcast are changing the game for independent country artists. We talk to Austin about his journey from singing the national anthem at age three to landing a publishing deal with Thomas Rhett’s Home Team.

But the biggest surprise comes from beloved local legend Jineane Ford, who shares her shocking story after being off the air — she was kicked by a horse during a trail ride and had to be air evacuated with a broken leg. Her story is one of resilience, community response, and recovery (complete with a wound vac and all). We’re sending healing vibes her way!

Then, to wrap things up, our favorite redneck Paul from Beaumont joins us for a rowdy round of “Beer Fact or Redneck Fiction” in honor of International Beer Day. From whale testicle brews to beer spas, you’ll never guess what’s real and what’s just good ol’ fashioned country nonsense.

This episode has it all — heart, humor, and a whole lot of hops. Hit play and subscribe to stay connected to your small-town morning show with big-time feels.

Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
Didn't you propose?

Speaker 1 (00:58):
I did.
Yeah, I've played CountryThunder a few times, but the
last time I played, dierks hadme on stage and I proposed to my
wife and it was just.
It was incredible.
Definitely one of those momentsyou look back and you're just
like I don't know how thathappened, but it was really cool
.

Speaker 3 (01:13):
I can't believe I was there and I'm getting to meet
you now, kind of in person, andwe're going to find out about
your musical journey, yourawesome podcast that's doing
great things for independentartists.
But before we get started, Ilike to do a little icebreaker
game, rapid fire questions withthis week's Country Climb Star
of the Week, austin Burke.

(01:33):
You ready, let's do it.
Arizona or Tennessee?
Arizona, woo, favorite Arizonarestaurant.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
Ooh, there's this salad sauce.
That's my favorite.
It's a salmon salad and I loveI'll go og.
We used to go there afterchurch on sundays, ajo alves.
First car it was a yukon xlbest gas station snack on tour.

(02:03):
Uh, now it's probably some kindof protein bar or beef jerky,
something a little healthier.
I kind of went uh down thatrabbit hole for a while.
The junk food.
The junk food doesn't sit aswell as it used to.

Speaker 3 (02:22):
Nashville hot chicken or Sonoran hot dogs.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
Ooh, I'm going to go Nashville hot chicken.

Speaker 3 (02:27):
Ooh favorite city to perform in.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
Definitely Phoenix, scottsdale, anywhere in Arizona
really, but definitely just home.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
And if you had one country song that's not one of
yours that you had to requestfor the rest of your life, this
was the only one you couldrequest at events or on the
radio.
What country song are yourequesting?
Should've Been a Cowboy?
Yes, toby Keith and I Should'veBeen a Cowboy too.
We're going to play that righthere on Q Country 92.5.

(02:57):
We are talking to Austin Burke, this week's Country Climb Star
of the Week.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
All right, let's go, let's go, let's go, let's go.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
Here we go.
Welcome back to the MorningBrew.
We are talking to Austin Burks, this week's Country Climb Star
of the Week, and really one ofthe guys that made it all happen
.
I actually got a call from hisdad originally that said my
son's a country artist, wouldyou play his music?
And he said it was Austin Burke.
And I had heard of Austin Burkeand I've listened to his music

(03:31):
and I saw him at Country Thunder.
So I was like, yeah, send himour way.
And then his dad's like hey, myson has this podcast called
Playlisted and would you like toshowcase some independent
artists?
And I said absolutely.
And so that's how this allstarted.
Austin, tell us about what isthe Playlisted podcast and why

(03:52):
did you start it?

Speaker 1 (03:53):
Yeah, so it's basically a music podcast and
you know I started it becauseI'm a big fan of Kill Tony.
You're a comedian, you knowabout that show I love.

Speaker 3 (04:01):
Kill Tony, yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
Yeah, yeah.
So you know, I wanted it to besort of that way for artists to
come and learn from some peoplethat have been in town for a
long time.
And you know, initially I waslike, oh man, we're going to rip
people and their songs suck andeverything.
But it's.
It's just not that show at all.
It's become sort of a showwhere people get to come on and
learn and grow and get betterand they they call Nashville a

(04:22):
10 year town but, um, you knowI'm trying to turn this 10 year
town into a five-year town forsome of these artists.
So they just get insight intothe business.
You know we have anywhere fromlawyers to, uh, you know,
produce, uh producers to, uh,publishers, record label
executives, you know,songwriters, artists, it's.
It's a really diverse show butit's really just to give these

(04:43):
artists a little insight intothe business and how to make
their song a little bit better.
That's how it started With KillTony.
I wanted there to be some kindof incentive If you get a
regular.
So we have regulars.
I think there's now sevenregulars on the show.
Then there's something calledthe A-List, which is Austin's
List.
It's basically a playlist.

(05:04):
If you make the A-Listsometimes, you know, everybody
will make the A-List.
Sometimes nobody makes theA-List, but it's kind of a
package.
Now we have partnered with abunch of cool people to get
artists in front of recordlabels.
We, you know, now are gettingartists the chance to hear their
song on Q Country for the firsttime, and it's just incredible.
I, first of all, I just want tothank you for doing what you do

(05:26):
to give these artists theopportunity to hear their song
for the first time, because, just as somebody that had has
had that moment, you know, itjust is so special and they're
never going to forget that.
They're never going to forgetyou, they're never going to
forget Q country, they're nevergoing to forget the radio
station that made that happenfor them and, I think, for your
listeners.
It's got to be really cool tooto kind of hear these artists

(05:49):
before they're anybody you know, and they're really like
blossoming before our eyes.
It's so cool to see.

Speaker 3 (05:59):
Our listeners absolutely love this segment.
Everywhere I go, and they loveevery artist that you have been
sending our way.
And why is supportingindependent artists so important
to you?

Speaker 1 (06:10):
Yeah, I think it's really hard right now, chris.
It's a weird time in theindustry where you have to have
money to make it, unfortunately, and you have to pump your music
with a bunch of advertisementsor you have to be signed to a
record label or you have there'sjust it's really hard.
It's really hard.
And so my platform givesartists the opportunity to be

(06:33):
heard, um, with with zero.
Like I want nothing from them.
I want nothing other than to forthem to blow up and for people
to hear their music and, um,it's just really cool to see
fans get behind this show andget behind the podcast and want
to find new music.
You know it's like now peopledon't realize this.
But Spotify, apple, all theseyou know I'm not going to talk

(06:54):
bad on them, but they're likepredetermined playlists, like
it's so hard to find new artistsnow.
So all these new artists thatyou're hearing are they're not
new, they're just signed to arecord label.
So I want to get the raw real.
The guys that are grinding, working three jobs, you know,
don't have parent support.
I want those guys and I reallybelieve in them.

Speaker 3 (07:19):
Austin.
This is so awesome, I love yourpodcast.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
Everyone should follow it.
It's at playlisted pod, rightit is.
It's that playlist pod and Iwant to say, you know I love
your listeners.
They're so engaged there's they.
They have so many personalitieson there, the comments, the
interaction.
They are the best listeners andI just I want to take a second
to thank them for supportingthese guys, cause I'm telling
you, you have no idea what itmeans to a young artist who's
trying to make it, doing thebest they can, to have people

(07:44):
tell them that their music rocks.
It's just it doesn't happenanymore.
I love you guys, they love you.
So thank you.

Speaker 3 (07:50):
Absolutely.
We got the best listeners andwe're honored to be a part of
your podcast and you sending usthese great artists and we love
supporting these independentartists.
Supporting these independentartists.
We're going to be right backwith Austin Burke and listen to
one of his great new songs righthere on QCountry 92.5.
Do you want to do Roots firstor do you want to do Miss the

(08:15):
Boat, which I love?
Both these songs.
I want to see them live, thankyou.

Speaker 1 (08:20):
Let's do Miss the Boat and then we can talk.
You said the next segment waswhat, after the talking about
the podcast?
Um, let's see, we can talkabout being from arizona and
stuff and then lead into roots.

Speaker 3 (08:34):
If you want, okay, perfect welcome back to this
week's country climb star of theweek with austin burke.
Austin bur Burke music and thePlaylisted Pod and the man that
is making this happen andletting us support these
independent artists.
And it's now time.
We played so many otherpeople's music and it's now time

(08:56):
to showcase Austin Burke'smusic.
And this next song is yourlatest release.
Tell us a little bit about it.

Speaker 1 (09:05):
Yeah, it's a great summer song and you know I just
I wanted something that's fun,it's something you can play on
the boat, something you canlisten to in the hot weather in
Arizona and it's just a fun playon words country song.
You know, I think DierksBentley, if he cut it it'd be a
number one, but it's a good oldfashioned 90s kind of early

(09:27):
2000s country song and I love it.
I just wanted to put outsomething fun for the summer.

Speaker 3 (09:32):
Heck, yeah.
Well, let's listen to it nowand you and I will have a little
dance party.
Everyone, this is Austin Burkewith his latest hit.
I Missed the Boat on Q Country92.5.

Speaker 2 (09:44):
I saved up three months of checks, gave up
cigarettes every penny I pinched, but I was still sure I needed

(10:08):
a little bit more.
Yeah, that thing out on thedock was enough for a rock and a
honeymoon spot in Cabo for onestraight week, cause that was
her dream.
I got an offer over asking wasabout to make it happen and I

(10:34):
saw forever flash before my eyes.
And I miss the boat.
I miss the wake.
I miss the sun shining off thatlake.
Miss the ice cold beer with theboys, the full stroke making
noise.
I miss the bother on the water.
There's some things I can't letgo.
Some might say I missed out onthat girl, but I miss the boat.

(10:55):
I miss the boat.
He showed up in an F-152 inchhitch and a cashier's check, all
ready to take her away, righthand, ready to shake Right.

(11:16):
Then she called and called mecrazy, said you're gonna miss me
baby, and I couldn't sit hereand watch her sail away.
Hey, cause I miss the boat.
I miss the wake.
I miss the sun shining off thatlake.
Miss the ice cold beer with theboys, the full stroke making

(11:37):
noise.
I miss the bobber on the water.
There's some things I can't letgo.
Some might say I've missed outon that girl, but I missed the
boat.
Yeah, buddy, I missed the boat.

(11:58):
I missed the boat.
I broke her heart.
I'm all alone staring at thesestars, anchored down, reeling
them in, happier than I've everbeen.
I missed the Bible on the water.
There's some things I can't letgo.
Some might say I missed out onthat girl, but I missed the boat

(12:23):
.
I missed the boat.
I miss the boat.
I'm not missing her.

Speaker 3 (12:33):
I miss the boat.
Heck yeah, that was AustinBurke with I Miss the Boat, this
week's Country Climb Star ofthe Week on Q Country.
That song was so awesome and wehad a little dance party going
on.

Speaker 1 (12:48):
Yeah, we did what are ?

Speaker 3 (12:49):
the chances I could join the band or be like a
dancer or something.

Speaker 1 (12:52):
Man, I think you got a good chance.
You definitely.
I mean, how many energy drinksare you drinking?

Speaker 3 (12:58):
Just one, just one.

Speaker 1 (13:04):
Oh, you're crazy man.
I love it, it, I love it.
What's your?

Speaker 3 (13:07):
favorite energy drink .
I love orange monster.
Well, actually, I love the uhthe sugar-free uh rock stars
that are a fruit punch yeah, they don't sell them at my
speedway and I like my girl, mylady that I buy my stuff from,
so I switched to monster orangeman, we got to get those.

Speaker 1 (13:24):
Why can't we get those there?

Speaker 3 (13:26):
I don't know, I don't know, I don't want, I don't
like to cause problems I'llcause the problems for you.

Speaker 1 (13:32):
Hey, speedway, get those.

Speaker 3 (13:34):
Uh, energy free rock stars, come on well, uh, let's
uh start our next segment.
Uh, we are talking to austinBurke, our country climb star of
the week, and, uh, we've hearda great song from him.
We've heard about hisplaylisted podcast, and now
we're going to find out aboutyour musical journey.

(13:54):
Uh, when did you first fall inlove with music and how did it
grab you?

Speaker 1 (14:00):
Yeah.
So I started singing when I wastwo years old Um, I know that
sounds weird, but I learned thenational anthem at two and a
half and my dad was like this isbizarre started filming you
know two and a half year oldsinging and then basically sent
it to the Rosie O'Donnell show, the Phoenix Suns Diamondbacks,
and just all over and startedsinging the national anthem at
three years old in front of youknow arenas.

(14:22):
And so that was kind of my lifeuntil I was 10 years old.
And then, from 10 to 18, Iplayed baseball and I was a
freshman in college and decidedto basically drop out and moved
to Nashville with 650 bucks.
I loved country music.
I've always loved country music.
I grew up on, you know, garthBrooks, toby Keith Brooks and
Dunn Lone Star.

(14:43):
I love the 90s country.
So I grew up on that andbasically was like I just want
to follow my music dream.
I feel like I was destined todo it and started waiting tables
for four years at a restaurantand one day my life changed
forever.
I got put on one of the biggestcountry playlists in the world

(15:06):
and then two weeks after that Ihad another song put on there as
well, and within like a month Imean it was pretty crazy.
I was bringing out Lobster tothis guy and I'll never forget
this is my favorite story.
So I brought out Lobster tothis guy, I put down the Lobster
and he looks at me and he goesare you Austin Burke?
And I was like, yeah, and youknow, I'm wearing my, my

(15:28):
collared shirt, my tie and my,my apron.
And he's like are you AustinBurke?
I said yeah, and he goes man,can I get a picture with you?
And I said, yeah, let me takemy apron off and, uh, and my tie
.
So I take it all off and Istill want to find this picture.
It's somewhere.
Take it all off and snap apicture next to the lobster, go
back to the back and tell myboss hey, I quit, I'm too famous

(15:51):
to work here.
And I never looked back.
I never looked back and thatwas kind of the moment that I
needed to take it seriously andit changed my life and I've been
doing music ever since I was in2017, I believe so and I've
been doing music ever since thatwas in 2017,?

Speaker 3 (16:05):
I believe so.
And what would be some of yourtop three career moments in your
musical journey?

Speaker 1 (16:13):
I know that's probably hard because you've had
a lot of great moments.
Definitely Country Thunder onthe main stage.
You know, I just always thatwas a dream venue to play, a
dream concert, dream festival toplay.
Definitely the Grand Ole Opry.
My great-grandfather, whopassed away last year, got to go
and it was just a very specialmoment with my whole family.
And then the third one.
I would say this is a weird one.

(16:38):
Not a lot of people know about, but I got to play the Ryman
with Vince Gill and RebaMcIntyre and it was just us
three and that was very surreal.
I blacked out, I did not knowwhat happened, but it was just
me and Vince on stage and got toplay a couple songs.
So that was honestly moreoverwhelming than the Opry, for

(16:58):
sure.

Speaker 3 (16:59):
Wow, those are some awesome, awesome moments.
And you also had signed withThomas Rhett's home team
publishing like a publishingdeal.
Explain like to us listenerswhat.
What is a publishing deal?
What does that mean for you asan artist?

Speaker 1 (17:14):
Yeah, so it's basically it's.
It's a job.
You know, you, you go to workand you write songs, and so he
was nice enough to sign me, um,and you, you write songs, and so
he was nice enough to to signme to his company and and
basically write songs, uh, forhim, uh, for other artists and
uh, unfortunately, there waskind of a wrench in a lot of it
with COVID.
Um, I, you know, had plans andtalks about a lot of awesome

(17:40):
things that were on the horizonand that sort of you know put a
wrench in a lot of it, but, um,it ended up being great.
I, I'm now with Warner chapeland, um, you know, it got me my
first publishing deal and I'msuper grateful for him and he's,
he's just such a great person.
I, you know, I learned a lotfrom his dad, rhett.
Rhett really took me under hiswing and wrote a ton of songs
with me Roots, which I knowwe're going to play coming up.

(18:02):
I wrote with Rhett.
That was my first time writingwith him and so, yeah, it's,
it's been a.
It was a really specialpublishing deal, but yeah, it's
just, it's a job.
It's a job, that's all it is.
You just write, write songs.

Speaker 3 (18:14):
You just clock in and write songs.

Speaker 1 (18:16):
Exactly, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3 (18:17):
Sounds like a pretty cool job.
Well, you talked about thatsong that you wrote called Roots
.
It's about your roots here inArizona.
How about we give that a spin?

Speaker 1 (18:29):
Let's do it.
Let's do it.

Speaker 3 (18:30):
Heck yeah, here we go .
Here's another one.
This is Austin Burke, today'sCountry Climb Star of the Week.

Speaker 2 (18:48):
This is his song Roots.
If you wonder why I picked thissick string, still got mud on
my F-150.
Why am I talking a littledifferent than you?
Yeah, if you ever see mesipping my Jack straight Mix
Garth Brooks and Drake down thehighway, if you wonder why I do

(19:11):
what I do.
Well, you can blame it all onmy roots.
All on my hometown, theMarizona roads we rode down.
I was raised on the rodeo dust.
I am who I am because of who Iwas.
Blame it all on the nights.
All them desert stars I keptwishing on.
They got me this far.
Put the west coast tanning anda little sand on my boots.

(19:35):
Yeah, you can blame it all onmy roots.
We'll be really leaving.

(20:03):
That's why I keep singing.
Blame it all on my own.
All on my hometown, theMarizona roads we rolled down.
I was raised on the rodeo dust.
I am who I am because of who Iwas.
Blame it all on the nights.
All them desert stars I keptwishing on.
They got me this far With thewest coast king and a little

(20:25):
saying on my boots.
Yeah, you can blame it all onmy rules.
Blame it all on my rules.
Everybody's got a little wherethey from.
You can find me in the desertsun.

(20:48):
Blame it all on my moves.
All on my hometown, theMarizona roads we rolled down I
was raised on the rodeo dust.
I am who I am cause of who Iwas.
Blame it all on the rodeo dust.
I am who I am because of who Iwas.
Blame it all on the nights, allthem desert stars I kept

(21:09):
wishing on.
That got me this far With thewest coast and a little sand on
my boots.
Yeah, you can blame it all onmy roots.
Blame it all on my roots.

Speaker 3 (21:30):
Blame it all on my roots.
Blame it on my roots.
Blame it on my roots, blame iton my roots.
That was Austin Burke with hissong Roots right here on Q
Country 92.5.
He is this week's Country ClimbStar of the Week.
I love all your music.

(21:50):
I love Miss the Boat, but Ilove Roots because I am an
Arizona boy.
These are my roots as well.
And maybe come up with a gamecalled this or that.

Speaker 1 (22:03):
Let's do it.

Speaker 3 (22:03):
Arizona edition.
Here we go Suns game orDiamondbacks game.

Speaker 1 (22:07):
D-backs all the way.

Speaker 3 (22:09):
Tempe Town Lake or Lake Pleasant for the weekend
escape.

Speaker 1 (22:13):
Ooh, I'll go Lake Pleasant.

Speaker 3 (22:15):
ASU tailgate or Cardinals pregame party.

Speaker 1 (22:20):
Actually now that answer changed as of a couple
years ago asu tailgate oh heck.

Speaker 3 (22:25):
Yes, they're doing awesome now, heck yes, yeah a
dry heat or nashville humiditydry heat for sure uh, a pine top
cabin weekend or a sedona daytrip.

Speaker 1 (22:38):
Pine top weekend.

Speaker 3 (22:42):
That was this or that Arizona roots edition with
today's country climb star ofthe week, austin Burke.
Austin, thank you so much foryour time today and thank you
for what you're doing forindependent artists, and I'm so

Speaker 1 (23:01):
Thank you man, I it's .
It's actually me that needs tothank you and your listeners.
Uh, again, what you're doingfor these artists, giving them a
platform, giving them a chanceto be heard, that's what it's
all about.
You know, we got to supportindependent artists.
We got to help them.
Uh, they're trying so hard andit's people like you and your
listeners that uh can make itall happen.
So we love you guys.

I got actually three shows thatI'm just about to confirm Two
they're going to be three inArizona, so I I don't know if I

people have been asking Where'sJanine, where's Janine?
And I'm like, well, she'll beback, don't worry.
Don't worry, but I figured youwould let us know where have you
been all week.

Speaker 4 (24:54):
Well, this has not been a vacation.
It's not been a vacation.
There were people onlinetalking about the Aerovac person
over by Heber like Decker Washand all these emergency crews
and stuff.
Yeah, that was me.
And basically last Sunday Iwent on a horseback ride and
we're way out past Decker Wash, though we're kind of not close

(25:15):
to any logging roads.
Oh, my goodness, we found thatout later and I took a kick from
a friend's horse who wereriding with a group and her
horse kind of turned and justwas kicked off for some reason
at my horse and gave us bothboth barrels, but unfortunately
my calf, the calf of my leg, caught the big kick and it
pretty much kind of shattered mycalf the worst thing I've ever

(25:39):
seen was a picture of that.
Yeah, you know, I thought aboutdoing a post on Facebook and I
said to my husband I can't postthat picture.
I mean it is gross.

Speaker 3 (25:52):
And so you were just out in the middle of nowhere.
How in the world did you makeit out?

Speaker 4 (26:01):
Well, number one I stayed on my horse, I clutched
the horn of the saddle and theydidn't realize I'd been kicked
and everybody yells is everybodyokay?
Because this horse, just youknow, did this and I was trying
to breathe and I kind of passedout on my horn but I was
gripping the saddle.
I never fell out of the saddleand they rushed up and our one

(26:21):
friend was on my left leg, whichis the injured leg.
My husband was to my right andhe set a tourniquet above my
knee right away.
I was bleeding bad and so theyset a tourniquet.
I had passed out.
But then I came to they got meoff the horse, got my leg up on
limbs.
We were able.
We were so lucky.
We were at the top of a knolland we were able to get a little

(26:41):
service and I was able to text.
And I texted Timber Mesa, ofall things, and our good friend
JD Pepper.
I apologize later for justtexting him, but I sent him our
coordinates and I said this iswhat happened I got a tourniquet
on my knee and then the ForestService, heber, overguard, fire

(27:02):
unbelievable their response.
They moved and I mean they hadto find us in there because it's
just an approximate and twokids, I swear to you, with the
Forest Service.
They look like they're 12 yearsold, chris.
They found their way weaving inwith an ATV and found us.
They found their way weaving inwith an ATV and found us.
And then I get put on the ATVwith a real tourniquet, which I

(27:23):
might say that tourniquets are.
Oh my God, they're painful.

Speaker 3 (27:27):
They're not the latest fashion craze.

Speaker 4 (27:29):
No, I was screaming, no, crying, I just get mad.
So I might have been screamingsome big obscenities there, but
they got me put my leg up highon the window.
I'm between the two of them.
So they got me put my leg uphigh on the window, I'm between
the two of them, and we crawledout, crawled out, crawled out,
and so it was almost two hoursof finding me, getting me to the
Aerovac.
It was hard to get to me, butthe Aerovac me fast.

(27:50):
That flight was like, oh mygosh, native Air, unbelievable.
They got me down there withinlike 21 minutes.
And I think, chris, thefunniest thing, I'm trying to
talk to you, trying to distractyou, you know, talking to you
the whole time.
These medics are amazing.
And I'm talking and she says, okay, we're going to land in
three minutes, I'm just going togive you a little something so

(28:10):
you forget this next part.
And I don't think I said okay,I don't remember anything, just
boom, knock down, Just boom.

Speaker 3 (28:17):
Tell us what's your road to recovery like, what are
you doing and when do we get tosee you again?

Speaker 4 (28:23):
Well, basically I'm at home right now.
I was in the hospital for aboutthree days after the surgery,
got home and home for a few days.
Then I have to go back down thevalley but I've got this thing
called a wound vacuum attachedto my leg.
So that's a fun thing and Ihaven't been able to see it.
My whole leg is sealed off andthen they use this wound vacuum.

(28:44):
So I'm hoping that everythinggoes great when I go down there
Monday to the hospital and I canyou know progress and get into
some sort of a different kind ofcast or something the next
phase, you know, just hoping thewound holds, because it was
really hard stitching this thingup Right, that's where I'm at
and I'm taking all the goodsupplements.

(29:04):
I'm going insane sitting herewatching some gratuitous series.

Speaker 3 (29:11):
Yeah, your doctor orders would be a death sentence
for me.
They said no moving.

Speaker 4 (29:18):
