On this talk about something good Tuesday, Kindness takes center stage in this heart-touching episode featuring Lance Matthews, founder of Tales of Love Rescue. What began as a solution for stray dogs wandering onto a reservation hospital campus has blossomed into a lifeline for countless animals across Arizona. Lance shares the origin story of his foster-based rescue organization and announces their upcoming Foster Friday celebration at Woodland Lake Park—a special gathering designed to honor the volunteers who make their mission possible.

"Without fosters, we're not a success," Lance explains, highlighting how these temporary homes provide more than shelter—they teach rescued animals how to trust, love, and simply "be a dog" again. The conversation reveals the behind-the-scenes magic of animal rescue work, where regular people transform lives by opening their homes to animals in transition. For listeners considering fostering, this episode offers valuable insights into what's involved and the profound difference it makes.

The show balances these meaningful discussions with moments of pure joy, including an impromptu "Real or Fake Dog Breed" game that puts Lance's canine knowledge to the test, and a heartwarming story about airport maintenance workers who crawled through baggage machinery to recover a stranger's lost diamond. We also catch up on "Donkey Watch 2025" as Jineane awaits the birth of a baby donkey she's fostering. Whether you're an animal lover, considering fostering, or simply enjoy stories of everyday heroism, this episode reminds us that kindness still shines brightly in our world.

Join Tails of Love Rescue Friday, July 11th from 4-7pm at Woodland Lake Park to learn more about fostering, meet the Tales of Love Rescue team, and perhaps discover your next calling. Visit tailsoflovescue.com or find them on Facebook to see animals currently looking for foster homes or forever families.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
Okay, tell us what's happening Friday.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
Friday.
So Friday, july 11th, thiscoming Friday, from 4 pm to 7 pm
, we're having what we callFoster Friday and what we're
trying to do is we're trying toshow our fosters, who we depend
on so much to be successful, howmuch we appreciate them.
So we're looking for our pastfosters, our present fosters and
anybody that's interested inpossibly fostering to come and

(00:53):
talk to us.
We're going to have a barbecue,that type of thing, and I don't
know what else will be going onthere, but mainly food, right,
and us.
You know there will probably bea a few puppies there, that
type of thing to look at.
Uh, but yes, it's for thefosters and anybody that would
be interested in fosters, because we are so dependent on
them.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
It's yeah, without them we're not a success so
please show up and support talesof love rescue chris.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
Yes, where is that?
The foster friday?

Speaker 3 (01:21):
it's going to be at woodland park, woodlandland Park
.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
Look in the Ramadas.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
They will be right around that area in those great
Ramadas.
That's a beautiful park.
Heck yeah, we love Tales ofLove Rescue.
That is definitely somethinggood to talk about on this.
Talk About Something GoodTuesday.
All right, janine, it's nowtime for me to share my good
news story.
All right, all right, here wego.
Here's a story that proveskindness still flies high, even
at the airport.
I hope you like that pun.
I worked on it really hard.
April Schmidt had just landedin Pittsburgh and was having a

(01:55):
hectic business trip, and thenshe realized that her diamond
from her engagement ring wasmissing.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
That is so bad.
I've lost a diamond and it wasfound needle in the haystack
kind of thing like this.
It's so scary, your heart justsinks.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
Yeah, I can't imagine how she was feeling.
She was heartbroken.
She returned to the airport tosearch around the baggage
carousel and see if anyoneturned it in.
And then what happened was justpure good news gold.
A team of six airportmaintenance workers came by,
crawled under and inside thebaggage system, went through all
the belts and the motors, theyhad the flashlight sticks and

(02:30):
then, finally, with the help ofa flashlight, they spotted a
sparkle in the dirt.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
And that sparkle in the dirt the diamond.
That's crazy.
That one's yeah, that's insane,that's crazy.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
Yeah, she said she was stunned and she said they
treated me like I mattered andthey definitely went out of
their way to help.
So a happy ending to astressful situation.
I'm sure yeah, that is suchgood news and I understand you
have some extra good news.
We've been having Donkey Watch2025.
Has your donkey given birth yet?

Speaker 2 (03:03):
Little mini Haley has not yet, but she waxed up
yesterday and that's anothergood sign and we are close.
I've been watching her like ahawk.
I got two cameras on her overthere in the barn and, yeah, and
with Lance Matthews with Talesof Love Rescue, here I have
these foster donkeys throughChristine Griffin Equine
Wellbeing Rescue, which they allkind of work together, all

(03:25):
these rescues, which is so cool.
But I've got the three donkeysand Haley's 20.
So that's why I'm watching herso closely.
But I'm probably going to dolike a, like a magic 101, you
know, little Facebook live whenthe baby's born, ok.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
Oh yes, I can't wait to see that.
It'll be fun.
That's awesome.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
Hey, see that It'll be fun.
That's awesome.
Hey, how about, since you haveLance over there, why don't we
play a little game?
Because today is actually CowAppreciation Day.

.
It is a best of five.
First one to three.
Correct answer wins.
Let's see who knows more aboutcows.
You two, ready.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Yeah, now we say our name first.
If we're answering yeah, sayyour name.
That's your buzzer, lance.
Yeah, that's your buzzer.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
You want the multiple choice?
Okay it.
You want the multiple choice?
Yeah, okay, it's eitherAntipoline, raduncine, caprine
and Beauvenet.
I am a city boy, that soundslike a wine Beauvenet.

Speaker 3 (05:31):
Almost Beauvenet.
I don't know that's a Beauvenet, what the heck.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
All right Lance.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
It's a tough one, you want to guess A, b or C.

Speaker 1 (05:39):
There's C, a, b and C .
Right, he says Beauvenet,Beauvenet.
Yeah, he says Beauvenet For thewin.
Lance, you are smarter thanJanine.

Speaker 3 (05:47):

Appreciation Day, with some cowtrivia, but it is talk about

(06:33):
something good.
Tuesday, lance, and we did talka little bit of the first hour
about Tales of Love Rescue.
Tell us what is Tales of LoveRescue for those that don't know
.

Speaker 3 (06:42):
Tales of Love Rescue.
So it was.
I started it back in 2019.
I used to work down at theWhite River Agents Hospital and
we had problems with some straydogs coming in onto the campus
and we were trying to figure outwhat we could do with them to
help them.
And so I was asked to try tofigure this out, right, and so I
went home and I was trying tofigure out, okay, what do I do?
And so well, I formed a rescue.

(07:04):
So that's where it started.
And from there, well, what didI do?
I called it Res Dog Rescue, right, and come to find out
there's quite a few Res DogRescues out there.
So some of the members, theyrenamed it and it became Tales
of Love Rescue.
So our main focus at the timewas the reservation, and that's
still.
We focus on that mainly.

(07:25):
But we're starting to.
You know our name's getting outthere.
We're trying to help people uphere.
We did a rescue out in Conchoand types.
You know things like that andso we're, you know we're getting
a little bit better known outthere and we're trying to help
every way we can, trying to workwith the other rescues and
shelters and that type of thing.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
You guys do an amazing job and you do it
without a shelter.
It's all on foster parents.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
That is correct, that make this happen.
They are the key to our successis our fosters.

Speaker 1 (07:54):
And they basically they house the animals.
They help get the animalsacclimated, because sometimes
the animals are shy, they alsotake them out and just trying to
get them used to being a dog.

Speaker 3 (08:05):
Being a dog yeah, being a dog and loving their
companions.

Speaker 1 (08:09):
And you guys have a great event this Friday,
basically to say thanks to allthose foster parents that make
this great thing happen, makeTales of Love Rescue happen.
Tell us a little bit about yourFoster Friday going yes.

Speaker 3 (08:23):
So this will be our first Foster Friday.
It's going to be July 11th,which is this Friday, and it's

Paul from Beaumont buddy, back from vacation,
working hard.
That's always the stinkiestthing about vacation, coming
back from vacation because youspend a week just being, you
know, just useless, and thenyou're thrust right into the
action again.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
Yeah, I mean, I didn't mind, it's just okay.
If you don't work, man, youjust don't get life.

Speaker 1 (09:34):
That's right.
That's right.
If you don't use it, you loseit.
My daughter, Lizzie, myyoungest daughter, Paul I know
you love to make me cry she'sturning 17 tomorrow.
She'll be a senior in highschool, Holy moly.

Speaker 2 (09:47):
Woo, thank you for being an interesting master,
chris.

Speaker 1 (09:51):
Yep, and you know she doesn't want to do anything
with us on her birthday, shejust wants to do something with
her friends.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
Oh, that's sad, that's sad.
That's really Dude.
My kids always wanted me andRhonda to do stuff with them.

Speaker 1 (10:07):
Yeah right, no, we're going to do something special
with her tonight and celebrateher birthday with her tonight,
so she can celebrate with herfriends.
Dude, you better tell y'all I'mmoving out.
No way, man.
She's 17.
She's still legally a child, soshe has to live with us for at
least another year.
Paul, how good are you at math?

(10:28):
I'm pretty good at math.
All right.

Speaker 2 (10:33):
Two kids minus one kid is one kid and one kid minus
, yeah, you're basically zerokids, two kids minus one kid is
one kid and one kid minus.

Speaker 1 (10:42):
Yeah, you're fixing to be zero kids, bro.

, dogs, police, yeah.
Military rules okay.
Uh, what about a snickerdoodleterrier?
True that's true, really the uhthe chap gpt said it's uh fake,
but there are.
Are there dogs calledsnickerdoodles?

Speaker 3 (11:17):
I've heard that before, Now I've never seen one.
Because snickerdoodle is adelicious treat.

Speaker 1 (11:22):
It is yes, but I know there are doodle terriers.
Doodles just must get it onwith everyone because they're
always mixed right.

Speaker 3 (11:31):
Well, I think the doodle is the product of two
different dogs.
You know, you have like, uh,chocolate labs with it's a cross
with a poodle, right somethingwith the poodle, you come up
with your doodles say that 10times fast.

Speaker 1 (11:45):
Yeah, what about a finnish lap hund?

Speaker 3 (11:48):
no idea, I'd say no it's a fluffy herding breed from
finland?

Speaker 1 (11:52):
yes, okay bred to herd reindeer.
So Santa probably hires Finnishlap hunts.
What about a wobble colliespaniel?

Speaker 3 (12:02):
Okay, one of these have to be false.
Yeah, that's got to be false.

Speaker 1 (12:04):
Yeah, a wobble collie , but I love cocker spaniels.
All right, and last one, dandydenmont terrier.

Speaker 3 (12:13):
I'm going to have to say yes, there you go, man he
knows his dog breed.

Speaker 1 (12:17):
I don't know it, but I have to guess you are correct.
Congratulations, he knows hisdoodles and his poodles.
He knows his doodles from hispoodles.
