Speaker 1 (00:02):
From the Horn Auto
Center Studios Chris Bennett and
the Morning Brew All right Onthe phone.
We have my friend, best friend, from our sister stations Magic
1017 and Italk 1067, janine Ford, host of Voice of the Mountain.
Janine, you have been outbecause of a knee surgery this
(00:23):
week, right.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
Yes, what a dumb time
to have a knee surgery, darn it
.
I'm a day and a half out, myleg is up and I'm very
frustrating with this fire goingon out there in the Greer area,
you know.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
Yeah, so I had to be
the news person yesterday and I
am not good at it.
Janine, it's more nervewracking than doing stand-up
comedy, because you just don'twant to get the wrong
information out there.
You did a wonderful job.
Oh, thanks.
Well, do you have anyinformation for us or any
updates that we can share?
Speaker 2 (00:54):
Well, the scary thing
about today and pretty much you
know they keep talking aboutGreer, everybody out of Greer
and all that Greer.
Pretty much it was outside ofGreer and all that Greer.
Pretty much it was outside ofGreer and it moved out of Greer
pretty fast, right, and they'restill calling it about 3,500
acres.
That's not what it is.
They haven't been able to dothe mapping from above because
of the winds.
(01:14):
It's closer to about.
They're estimating about 4,600acres right now and still
growing.
There's no containment.
There is a Type 2 complexincident management team that
took command of the fire lastnight at eight o'clock.
They're estimating around 150to 200 personnel working the
fire right now, supposed to begetting an update at nine
(01:36):
o'clock on all the details.
But of course the big thing isthat parts of Eager have been
put on set to be ready toevacuate.
The good news is right now thecooler temperatures are keeping
that fire a little bit down, asyou can see in the live reports
they're giving.
But the winds today are bad, chris.
And the thing is, the planes.
(01:56):
I've never myself understoodtotally why they fly kind of
late, like could they fly early, early at first light, I don't
know, but like when those windsare down a little bit.
But the winds have not.
They've been going all nightand so they don't think they're
going to get those planes in theair today.
It's not looking good becausethen the fire retardant just
flies all over the place andthey have no effect anyway.
(02:19):
So for right now it's burninginto the old burn area of the
Wallow Fire and that's good newstoo.
But they're just hoping itdoesn't move over and those
people in Eager can be spared,of course.
So everybody's keeping close onthis.
I will give you an update.
I've been watching game camerasthat are just above South Fork,
where the South Fork cabins are, above X Diamond Ranch.
(02:41):
A friend of mine has sent methere's game cameras up there
and this morning I was sopleased to see an elk walking
across the front.
They put in a fire line, a firebreak, behind the butler cabin
there, just above Wink's place, the X Diamond Ranch, and we are
all praying that not very muchfire got down into the beautiful
(03:02):
X Diamond in South Fork.
Speaker 1 (03:04):
Yes, definitely.
Our thoughts and prayers go outto everyone affected and
especially to the firefighters.
Big thank you for everythingyou do and stay safe.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Yes, we saw a lot of
them walking back and forth in
those game cams setting thatline and I could just see them
and you could see the light andglow behind them and I'll tell
you what.
Again, thoughts and prayers toall the firefighters and all the
people working on this and wejust hope for everyone's safety,
number one.
And that there were a fewstructures lost I believe four,
(03:33):
like down in Greer, they'resaying.
But it's so.
Yeah, we all need to say a lotof prayers and be holding our
breath and this wind needs to goaway, hopefully please uh.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
Janine, thank you so
much for uh the update and I
hope uh your knee heals up anduh be happy when you're back
live in the studio yes, and justtell people if they're
listening to magic and it's likeoh hi, you know I've did my
pre-recording stuff, right?
You know, oh yeah a fire overthere.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
Yeah, thank you,
chris.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
Right, Definitely we
pre-recorded those segments and
like days ago so all right.
Awesome, Janine.
Love you Bye.

Greer fire.

Speaker 3 (04:30):
We're doing all right
.
Yeah, yeah, yesterday I lostyou because we went in the
canyon and there were no signalsthere.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
Oh yeah, lost me in
the canyon.
So has the fire affected youand the cowboys and Cowgirls
over at your ranch in Eager?
Speaker 3 (04:46):
No.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
No, not at all.
Have you heard about the fire?
Yeah, yeah, but you're in Eager, right, yeah yeah.

Oh, I'm sorry, hey, clothes,I'm sorry.
Clothes, oh okay.
Oh yeah, that's good.
You got your go bag ready to go.
Well, what can I do for you andthe cowboys and cowgirls this
(05:37):
morning?
Speaker 3 (05:38):
Yesterday we were
christening the song, but we
didn't get it.
It was was it Tim McGraw?
Somebody oh?
Speaker 1 (05:45):
somebody, tim McGraw,
somebody, oh somebody, tim
McGraw.
Somebody Must Be Praying For Me.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
Yeah, that one.
That's what they want to hear.
All right, awesome, we'resitting right now listening to
you in the barn.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
Oh, you're in the
barn right now.
You guys aren't.
Uh, you're just, you're stayingput today.
Yeah, they're fixing up theirsaddle and their bridles and
fixing everything up.
That's awesome.
Well, we are definitely goingto have to set up a time after
my daughter's wedding for me tocome out and I could be a ranch
hand for you for the day.
(06:18):
We'll see how long it'll last.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
I don't know what the
job you do.
I don't know how long you'lllast.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
All right.
Well, virgil the cowboy fromEager, we love you.
Stay safe to all you out thereand all you cowboys and cowgirls
.
Hope you have a great day.
From the Horn Auto CenterStudios, chris Bennett and the
Morning Brew.
On the phone we have firemarshal with the Timber Mesa
Fire Department, jd Pepper, forhis fire marshal minute.
(06:48):
We have a lot going on, jd,tell us what's going on.
Yeah, man.
Speaker 4 (06:53):
You're right, busy,
busy, busy.
Yesterday was a real busy day.
As most people are aware, wehave a fire out in the Greer
area.
As most people are aware, wehave a fire out in the Greer
area.
That fire overnight has grownto just a little over 3,500
(07:13):
acres.
I believe is what the incidentteam is reporting.
There was still some high winds.
Everybody that lives up hereknows we had high winds last
night.
Those winds are pushing thatfire kind of north-northeast in
that direction.
Today we're going to continuethose high winds.
The heel of that fire isanchored, meaning that they have
stopped that heel from pushingbackwards right.
(07:35):
The backwards progression ofthat fire is going to be slower
than obviously, the head of it.
Crews are engaged on the westand east flanks of the fire.
They're trying to establishcontainment lines and the east
side of that fire is above theSouth Fork area.
You know prayers going out tothose ranchers out there in that
(07:56):
area.
I know some of them out thereand my heart just hurts so bad
for them.
So they're going to be workingon that today.
I know that they're going tohave probably a briefing usually
happens out on those fire linesat about 8 o'clock this morning
to talk about basically theplan of attack and what each
(08:19):
assignment is going to be foreach one of the teams.
I don't know how manyfirefighters are on the incident
right now, but yeah, it's a bigdeal.
The wind is definitely a bigdeal and we are in red flag
today, and so what does that?
mean red flag.
So red flag means that it'scritical fire weather, like
(08:43):
we've been talking about for acouple months now.
Our fuels are really dry outthere.
Even though we had rain, it'sjust not enough in our fuels.
The stuff that's on the ground, the trees, everything is still
really dry because it's justsoaking all that water up real
fast.
So the red flag means that it'sjust really windy out there
(09:04):
because we have critical fireweather.
Red flag says hey, listen up,no fires.
We literally had people havingcampfires yesterday at three
o'clock in the afternoon in ourarea right now in Show Low, and
so we are in stage two now.
Stage two came into effect at 6pm last night.
(09:25):
So we are in stage two now.
Stage two came into effect at 6pm last night.
So what people are probablygoing to call and ask what are
the prohibitions?
Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire,
campfire, charcoal, coal or woodfire is prohibited.
(09:47):
If you have that type of fire, someone calls in and you're
having a fire.
I promise you right now youwill get a citation or possibly
even maybe a little trip to theGraybar Hotel.
It just depends on if your fireis reckless or not.
Smoking outside of your vehicleor outside of designated
smoking areas is also prohibited.
(10:09):
Operating an electrical deviceor internal combustion engine in
the course of mechanical orindustrial operations that would
produce open flames or sparks.
Okay, if you are in our areaTimber Mesa's fire district and
I know Pinetop Fire District isthe same if you are in these
areas and you have operationalneeds for your job, you must
(10:31):
come and see us to get a hotwork permit.
There are requirements for thatpermit that you have to have in
place to be able to do thistype of work.
The same goes for welding andoperating a settling or other
torch with open flames Okay, those things are prohibited.
Using explosives I don't knowwhen that's not prohibited
(10:56):
against the law, I don't know.
Operating motorized vehicles offof designated roads and trails.
So if you're not on a road, don't use your ATV, don't ride
your quads or anything like that.
It's prohibited.
Those operators of thosevehicles are probably also going
to be getting citations as wego into the weekend here, folks
(11:18):
that come up from the valleyusing their ATVs, their UTVs or
just even vehicles.
If you're off of a road, adesignated road, and you are
stopped, probably by a ForestService or the Game and Fish or
the Sheriff's Office, you'reprobably going to get a citation
.
Any and all fireworks areprohibited.
(11:38):
Explosive targets such asTannerite are prohibited, and
the use of tracer ammunitionalso, and the discharging of
firearms.
(11:58):
The only time you can dischargea firearm right now, during
Stage 2 is if you are activelyengaged in an actual hunt and
you have a hunting license, soon and so forth.
I don't know if there's anythat is open right now, other
than maybe small game.
So those are the prohibitions, all right, and you can find
these out on any of the websites, social media, from any of our
partners.
Obviously, you go toTimberMesaFireorg, you can look
(12:19):
at us up on Facebook.
Navajo County EmergencyManagement, pinetop Fires, the
city of Show, the town ofPinetop Lakeside, navajo County
Sheriff's Office and Show PoliceDepartment.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
All right, jd.
Thank you so much for theinformation today and a big
shout out to all the crewsfighting that fire.
Stay safe and remember we arein stage two fire restrictions.
Speaker 4 (12:46):
We love you guys.
I love you too.
You guys, be safe out there.
No fires, no fires.
Speaker 1 (12:48):
Thanks, good morning.
It's the Morning Brew withChris.
You are the first caller.
Who's this?
Speaker 3 (12:54):
Good morning.
This is Sam.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
Sam, where are you
from?
I'm from Eager Eager.
How are you holding up with thefire over there in Greer or in
that area?
Speaker 4 (13:03):
We're doing all right
.
It's slowly creeping this way,but don't feel threatened at all
.
They're doing a good job ofkeeping it contained, so we're
doing good.
Speaker 1 (13:12):
Do you have a lot of
smoke in that area?
Speaker 3 (13:15):
You know, it's
actually blowing kind of north
of us.
Speaker 4 (13:18):
We've been real lucky
.
It didn't even settle into thevalley last night.
It was all north of us, so wegot really lucky.
I'm actually out at TEP rightnow so I don't know if it's
there or not, but we got luckylast night and had no smoke.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
Oh good, all right.
Well, you guys are in set mode,so just be ready if anything
changes Absolutely and you'reprobably looking to get out of
town, maybe.
Yeah, we'd love to.
Yeah, and win some D-backtickets.
Well, you have won them, butwill you just humor me and play
a little game with me?
Anyways, Absolutely.
All right, it's.
Would you Rather BaseballEdition with Sam from Eager?
(13:54):
Would you rather have unlimitedballpark nachos or a guaranteed
foul ball catch?
Speaker 3 (13:59):
Ooh, I'm going to
have to go with guaranteed foul
ball catch.
Speaker 1 (14:03):
Yeah, me too.
You and I are on the same page.
Would you rather go to D-backsgame with your ex or your boss?
Speaker 3 (14:11):
I'm going to have to
say my boss.
Speaker 1 (14:15):
Next one.
Would you rather sit through a14-inning game with no snacks or
spill your nachos in the firstinning?
Ooh.
Speaker 3 (14:25):
I'm going to have to
go with spill my nachos in the
first inning.
Speaker 4 (14:30):
It's a long time with
no snacks.
Speaker 1 (14:32):
That is a long time,
and one of my favorite things
about going to the baseballgames are the great snacks.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
Absolutely.
If I spill my nachos in thefirst inning, I can go get more
and it can still be 14 innings.
There you go.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
That's right.
And last one would you rathercatch a foul ball with your face
or miss it by one seat?
Oh, that is a tough one.
Speaker 3 (14:55):
I would catch it with
my face.
I'd get a lot more fame thatway, exactly.
Speaker 1 (15:00):
That was.
Would you Rather questions fora D-back giveaway with Sam from
Eager?
Congratulations, sam, you justwon four tickets to either
Friday night's game against theRockies or Sunday's game against

Speaker 1 (15:18):
All right, you got it
.

You know it, arr.
Speaker 1 (15:25):
Arr, good morning.
It's the Morning Brew withChris.
Who's this?
Speaker 3 (15:30):
Good morning Chris.
This is Chyna from Eager.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
Chyna from Eager.
Yes, thank you so much forcalling in.
How are you guys holding in?
And eager, what's it like?
Speaker 6 (15:40):
Yeah, you know we're
doing okay.
We've got our bags packed andready to go as parts of our town
are in set.
It was a super windy night lastnight and I don't think any of
us got any sleep, just worriedabout things.
You know, last night peoplewere posting pictures of the
fire and we were advised that itlooks a lot closer than it
actually is at night.
So we're just kind of standingby.
(16:02):
But I will say I know a lot ofpeople are constantly asking for
updates, like where do we findreliable information?
So I want to take a second torecommend the Watch app.
It has all of the latest andgreatest up-to-date fire
information.
Watch Duty sorry, watch Dutyapp.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
The Watch Duty app.
Yeah, that is a great, greattool.
Speaker 6 (16:22):
Yeah, yeah,
absolutely, and I know they had
a meeting this morning aboutthings.
The town of Eager has asked allresidents to conserve water at
all costs at this time.
So, yeah, we're just kind oftrying to be mindful.
But I will say it has beenamazing to see the outreach, the
outpour of love on Facebook ofpeople offering horse trailers
(16:43):
and places to stay, and I knowour local football team is
offering their services to helpanybody load anything that they
may need to take with them.
Sorry, it's going to make meteary at a moment's notice.
So it's been really cool to seeour community come together.
Schools are closed today, ofcourse.
Yeah, we're all just kind ofstanding by and praying.
And for all our firstresponders, we've got backup
(17:07):
fire teams here in town, inRound Valley, assisting with our
departments that are out, youknow, on the fire right now.
So it's been a really awesomething, despite the obvious
tragedy.
Speaker 1 (17:17):
All right.
Well, chyna, thank you so muchfor calling in and, with your
update from Eager, I hope youguys stay safe and, yeah, we're
sending our thoughts and prayersout to you and all the
firefighters that you all staysafe.
Speaker 6 (17:28):
All right.
Well, thanks so much, chris.
It was so great talking to youand, yeah, just sending prayers
and love to everybody out there, and Facebook has lots of
resources, so definitely.
Speaker 1 (17:41):
Yee-yee, yee-yee.
It's everyone's favoriteredneck from Beaumont, texas.

Speaker 5 (17:51):

Ain't no fires around here?
Speaker 1 (17:55):
That's good.
That's good.
We're trying to keep safe.
Our thoughts and prayers go outto all the firefighters
fighting that fire out there.
I understand one of our friendshere in the White Mountains
recently sent you a gift.
Speaker 5 (18:09):
Yeah, I was watching
this guy.
I've been looking at thesethings.
He's Ghost Beats, he's anecklace, a Ghost Beats, yeah,
but you know, in this day andage man, the guy looked legit
but with all this AI stuff.
I was like, okay, this could benot so legit.
He could be getting some stuffoff T-Mu.
Send me some T-Mu necklace orsomething.
(18:30):
So I reached out to her and shewas like, yeah, yeah, yeah,
yeah, I could do that.
So, yes, maybe one got ityesterday and love it.
Oh, that's awesome.
I don't know what a turtlemeans in Navajo, though.
Speaker 1 (18:44):
Those are the words
that are written on it.
No, I don't know what a turtlemeans in Navajo, though those
are the words that are writtenon it.
Speaker 5 (18:51):
No, it's got a turtle
on it.
Oh, okay, and that meanssomething, I guess.
I mean I would assume it doesit's legit.
Speaker 1 (18:54):
Yeah well, why don't
you reach out to Janelle, who
made it and sent it to you?
Why don't you reach out to herand find out that's a good idea?
There you go, we're learningthings today.
Speaker 5 (19:04):
I mean, I didn't want
to sound dumb, but I just said
it on the radio.
Speaker 1 (19:07):
Yeah, yeah, so
everyone, you said it on the
radio, so you might as well justask her.
All right, we've been talkingabout my daughter's upcoming
wedding and, as emotional as I'mgetting, I thought we'd have a
little fun today with it, paul,Playing a game called Redneck
Reception or Real Wedding.
I with it, paul, playing a gamecalled Redneck Reception or
(19:33):
Real Wedding.
I'm going to read a wildwedding moment and you got to
tell me is this a real thingthat happened at a wedding, or
just a beautiful redneck fantasy?
Are you ready?
Let's do this.
All right, the bride and groomrode into the reception on ATVs.
Is that real, true, true, yeah, that is yeah, I'll tell you
that's real.
Speaker 5 (19:46):
Is that real, true?
Yeah, that is, that's real.
Speaker 1 (19:47):
Have you ever been to
a wedding like that?
Uh-uh, what's the most redneckthing you've ever seen happen at
a wedding?
Speaker 5 (19:55):
At my grandparents'
place.
One of the girls that workedthere, she had a calf and they
put like some burlap bags on itand it was the flower, like the
gonna say the flower grill orwhatever, and they were just
throwing flowers out the burlapbags on the side as the cow
walked down the middle of theaisle.
Speaker 1 (20:17):
Next one In the board
In the board, that sounds
pretty redneck.
Next one they toasted withMountain Dew, code Red and
personalized mason jars.
Redneck, yeah, I'm going to say, that's true.
Oh, that's true.
No, well, not.
According to the internet.
I wasn't able to find thathappen, but I'm sure it has.
Instead of a first dance, theyhad a shotgun skeet shoot.
(20:42):
I think that's redneck.
Yeah, no, no, that's real.
It happened at a Texas ranchwedding yeah, that's what I said
.
It's real.
Oh well, redneck means redneckfantasy.
It's redneck or real?
Oh oh yeah, real.
There you go.
And last one the reception washeld in a Bass Pro Shop showroom
.
Real or just a redneck fantasy?
(21:04):
That might just be the fantasy.
No, that's real.
Speaker 5 (21:12):
Would you ever have a
?
That would be a cool place fora reception.
I don't know, I don't know, man, I don't like people jumping in
the fish tank.
Speaker 1 (21:17):
Well, Paul, it was so
much fun talking to you today,
best friend.
I hope you have a great day andwe'll talk to you again
tomorrow.
Speaker 5 (21:25):
