Speaker 1 (00:46):
What is he doing now? By the ways, he's not
SMU is he? I don't know where he is? Probably
a high school team?

Speaker 4 (00:53):
Yeah, yeah, right now.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
But there has a lot going on, I mean two
days so opening day, Eagles, Eagles always finding a way to.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
Steal always they're great.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
They are great at that now you know.

Speaker 1 (01:29):

Speaker 1 (01:38):
And there he is, there, he is, Michael Warren.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
What's going on in Sean?

Speaker 1 (01:44):
Locked up there where mister Brady usually is, And hey.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
What's going on? And you know what stays that guy
should have asked this beforehand, But does this podcast have
a dress code? Because right now I've got my Philadelphia
It's come bowl. I love it.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
He's got Christmas stuff up in the back. I'm gonna
steal that.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
Wait, aren't you one to talk? Don't you? Aren't you
a Christmas stuff all year round? Back a little bit
look back there, eyeing it up already.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
I'm pretty sure I saw those branches at Joe's house, Yeah,
some of them.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
Right, Fess up, Joe, just fess up. I mean, it's fine,
we're all friends. I do have a jersey collection, though,
but it's up in another room and it's a bunch
of people that nobody knows, so I don't think I
would use it.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
Like Simon Gan Wes Hopkins from back in the day.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
I've got a Mike Ciphres's jersey. I have an authentic
Mike Cyphress jersey? Are you the punter from the Chargers?
I have the most obscure stuff, you know. I have
the greatest jersey collection. I could never sell, Like what
is this?

Speaker 4 (02:54):
We had Marcus Hayes on a couple of weeks ago.

Speaker 3 (02:56):
He was about to give us in depth of what
happened with Joel and he distracted by les.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
He took the pop out of him. He took a
swing at him. I don't know where he hit him,
but yeah, I was, Uh, that was good stuff.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
So how you doing?

Speaker 1 (03:11):
Welcome to heavy man. I just heard you got that
gig yesterday. Good stuff. If you're doing Bengals, tell us
what you're doing in heavy Yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
So I just actually started this week Dolphins and Bengals mainly,
and there's other teams. I just did some stuff with
the Falcons and the Colts. So if you're just dying
for this information, I mean, hey, I got you always.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
I loved your trade Hendrickson an article. I'd love to
see him in your Eagles green broll never happened. They
got to give up a boatload for a trade and
then pay him a lot of money.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
Right, So that's gonna be the problem with the Bengals,
which I don't know if they've learned their lesson yet. Like,
what are you waiting to see from these guys? The
Bengals are so poorly run you're telling me you didn't
see it with you Like, what were you waiting to
see from Jamar Chase that you waited for Justin Jefferson
to get paid ceedee lamb and then he gets the triple?
What were you waiting for? You think he got cheaper?

(04:02):
Are you stupid? That's why Howie did a nice job.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
Signed Devon Tank give me an ag extension just a
couple of years ago on the cheap kind of.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
Well, it goes back to Joe Banner's theory, right, which
is approach your young players that you think are going
to be, you know, exponentially good, and we're going to
give you more money than you're worth right this second
in exchange. I believe on the back end of that contract,
you're gonna be worth more. That's the deal, right. Banner's
been doing it. He did it with Leedo and Sheldon,
and years ago he did it with Damon Moore. Damon

(04:33):
Moore bettered himself and then shredded his knee in the
NFC Championship game in a one. Sorry, but they did
come to you with a deal and you wanted to
bet on yourself.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
It didn't work, didn't Liedo not quite understand what was
what was going on with.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
That ah because he wanted out on the back end.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
When I came to the back end, he's like, what's up?
Like we went over this.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
That's the problem with that theory is that the guys
do think anyway, I'm not I'm not paid market value.
That was the deal. It was the deal.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
You weren't paid either in the front you were up. Yeah,
well that's too funny.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
So the Bengals I don't think, are going to learn
their lesson, and right now they have. Burrow obviously has
to be paid. Obviously, Jamar, you could have had him
a little cheaper, but you were gonna have to pay him.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
Did they need to pay t Higgins all that money?

Speaker 2 (05:20):
I gotta agree with you, No, your defense stunk with
Trey Hendrickson. You were twenty fifth in the league and
he had seventeen and a half sacks eat to the
last two years. I think in the last four he's
got four or five. He's got like more than seventy.
It's something insane. And you still stunk.

Speaker 3 (05:40):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
Borrow was not happy.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
You could see it after his press conferences. Every time
they where he put up like five touchdowns and they'd
lose by ten, and he'd be like, yeah, we can't
keep getting better by trading away our best guys.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
I was just talking to a friend of mine about that.
Burrow just had that I'm not gonna throw anyone under
the bus, but I just throw just threw four touchdowns
and three point fifty and we lost again again. You
can't stop anybody you're running.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
After one of the games with his coach, he walked
into the one of the side doors afterwards, and I
don't know what was said, but couldn't have been happy.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
I'll blame him.

Speaker 4 (06:16):
So are we that lucky to have our set up
with the Eagles.

Speaker 3 (06:21):
Yes, I mean it seems it's how it makes it
seem so easy. Where how come all the rest of
these teams can't figure it out? Just blows my mind.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
I will say this, and this is why the Eagles
are in an awesome spot. I don't want to say
how he was given this position. He's earned the position
of he's not going anywhere. He can look two three
years down the road. You think Joe Shane up in
the Giants, you think he's looking two years down the road.
He's thinking, if I don't win.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
Tomorrow, yeah I'm gone the way.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
What's that?

Speaker 1 (06:57):
You're surprised you Jidge retained him.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
You could make an argument either way, but I don't
see where turnover is getting you anywhere either. It's not.
He really isn't. But he's also not empowered. He's got
to win games now, and well he's gonna now. He's
got Jameis Winston, so cross that off the list to go.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
He's only getting like four million a years, something ridiculously low.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
And I'm fine with I like Winston. Actually, he's like
the best and worst quarterback all in one, and.

Speaker 1 (07:28):
He does it all. He he does it at all.
This drive and then he throws like a pick shicks
behind him, like on the next drive, Like remember that
game he threw for like he threw like five touchdown passes,
but then threw like two pick shicks's. And he's just
you don't know what you're gonna get with him.

Speaker 2 (07:45):
He's prolific.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
Florida State. I used to see article he is the
greatest comeback quarterback and blah blah. You know why because
he threw three first half interceptions and he had to
come back from twenty one down in the second half
like every other game. I mean, I think everybody did
a nice job of it, but he would always put
himself in the hole.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
Well wasn't that the Colts Chiefs playoff game years ago
with Andrew Luck brought him back. I'm like, yeah, well
he brought him out of the hole that he dug.

Speaker 1 (08:13):
For twenty eight points down Dandy Reid. All of his
great comebacks Andy Reid. He's got the three highest point
lead Leeds blown in the playoffs twenty eight it was
eighteen to the Titans, and when what's his name? The
Hawaiian kid who played for US played there, and then

(08:36):
another one was just a huge meltdown. But you know, hey, listen,
you know he bounced by, got Patrick Mahomes and bounced back.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
A little bit. That helps, a little bit.

Speaker 1 (08:43):
Helped a little bit, doesn't it. Everyone's like, oh, he's
a Hall of Fame coach. He really learned it. Yeah,
he got Patrick Mahomes. All right, Donovan to Patrick, there's
a difference.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
It helps. I mean, right now, Bill Belichick could not
buy a job in the NFL right now. Granted he's
burned a lot of bridges and he's over seventy and okay,
his methods and way of doing things probably doesn't relate
to today's player. Okay, fine, but a guy with that
resume all of a sudden, right coaching, not even I
mean not even coaching Alabama.

Speaker 1 (09:11):
Coaching, can't find a job. I know, Yoga on the
beach too. He's got a hot she's got a hot girlfriend.
She's like twelve props.

Speaker 2 (09:21):
He's done.

Speaker 1 (09:22):
Okay for him, so.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
He's fine, Yeah, it will be fine.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
I wonder how long he stays there, But I was,
I guess he's just chopping at the bit to coach.
You know, some coaches just like to like a raw.
He won the National championship. Next thing, you know, he's
coaching like Division nine Florida something down in the South,
you know what I mean, Like guys just like to
coach sometimes well and don't look a job at like
t elementary. If he can coach, help kids give you

(09:48):
know what I mean, Like, he'll keep coaching.

Speaker 3 (09:50):
Well.

Speaker 2 (09:50):
Well, don't think don't discount Bill Belichick's recent media work.
That's clearly image rehab. To me, I love it. I
think he's great in the media, a much more decent
person than we've known from people that have played for him, and.

Speaker 1 (10:04):
I've seen him as some of those. He is a
funny guy. He just he just had that demeanor when
he was with the Patch and that was his thing.
But off that, you know, out of that realm, he's
actually a pretty funny guy.

Speaker 2 (10:17):
I think so too. But when he gets into the
working world. I mean I've heard stories from guys I
know that have played for him, and like, you wouldn't
believe how he speaks to people. And I don't think
that plays today. Yeah, I don't think it played.

Speaker 1 (10:31):
It worked in the eighties, Yeah no, it did. You
got away with more back back in those days. But
now the players are making like ten times what you're
making right, So it's crazy, Sean. I'll let you lead
off here.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
Let's talk.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
Let's talk do some birds first, let's talk about the birds.

Speaker 4 (10:46):
So, Michael, what do you think of the move so far?

Speaker 3 (10:48):
I know, you know it seems like the world came
crashing down right after the parade, as soon as free
agency opened.

Speaker 4 (10:55):
What's your thoughts so far?

Speaker 2 (10:57):
Well, first of all, this is what happens, right you
win a Super Bowl or you make a deep playoff run,
people want your players, your coaches. We saw stichen and
again whatever uh it poached? Yeah, yeah, we saw with
the Lions right now without their coordinators. So you just
know that's gonna happen. If you remember in twenty fifteen

(11:18):
the Super Bowl with you know, Malik Jackson was really
good for Denver at a great super Bowl. He's not
getting that contract from Jacksonville if he didn't have a
great super Bowl. It happens all the time. And I
love to use the Raiders as an example because I
love to beat on the Raiders. Larry Brown had Super
Bowl you know, in ninety five.

Speaker 1 (11:39):
And Neil o'donald threw two balls to him.

Speaker 2 (11:41):
Yeah exactly. But the Raiders were like, yo, that's our dude. Yeah.
They did it with Desmond Howard. Oh he's a great
punt returner. We're gonna sign him like a number one
wide receiver. They did it with Dexter Jackson in two
thousand and two Super Bowl MVP. He's ours, right, somebody
always does it. They're gonna overpay, It's gonna happen. Did
it with Javon Hargrave. I like Javon Hargrave. Do you

(12:03):
think the Niners felt like they got their money's worth? No,
I'd say no, they just released them, right, Yeah, I
think they had I like Josh Sweat. I think he
was a very good player, but somebody was gonna overpay him.
They overpaid Milton Williams, and you know what to those
let me be clear, those guys deserve it. Get your money.

(12:24):
That now is your payday right now, No problem with it.
This JGJ trade was a little curious to me. I
thought that too. Yeah, but I do. I don't mean
to sound like some sort of sick E fan, but
I kind of trust how he has a plan.

Speaker 4 (12:42):
The same way I was kind of thrown off about
the CGGJ two.

Speaker 2 (12:47):
Do you think it's curious.

Speaker 3 (12:48):
Yeah, it just was weird, like leading up the Twitter
rant that he was on the whole thing with Darius
and then we're like, okay, looks like slaves Ley been.
Now they're both gone. I mean I heard that he
went to paint in the ass, but how okay?

Speaker 2 (13:08):
Was good point John? So? Was he becoming too much
of a mouth? Maybe? And also there was hints they
was gonna want more money and we know right now
how he knows. Not only can I not pay everyone?
This is the first world, first world problems of having
a great roster. I can't pay anyone, but I got
Carter coming up. You don't think Nolan Smith, Quinnon, Dejon

(13:30):
this is all coming up again, first world problems, right, Yeah.

Speaker 1 (13:38):
You gotta keep the cor together, you really do. And
you know what Joshwell wrote this, Josh Wett and Milton
Williams combined combined regular season, had thirteen sacks together. But
they threw Patrick Mahomes around like a rag doll in
the Super Bowl. And everyone remembers that, man, these guys
were unbelieved, you know what I mean, every year outsacked
them by four and a half by himself in the

(14:00):
regular season, but these guys had four and a half
sacks combined out of the six and they look dominant.
So get your money. Good for that.

Speaker 2 (14:07):
And to your point, Sean losing it, Milton Williams didn't start. Now,
I know it's a rotation, and Jordan Davis don't get
me started. He gives you twenty snaps a game. I
don't even want to hear about second contract for him. Honestly,
I don't think he's bad. I don't think he's a bust,
but I don't want to go second contract. Maybe, but
Milton Williams wasn't a starter. Sweat was really disappeared at

(14:31):
the end of the season. He showed up in the playoffs,
but he was not. Yeah, yeah, those are acceptable losses
to me. I'm not thrilled about it. But you didn't
lose it. Sounded like losing Reggie White in ninety three, right,
you know?

Speaker 1 (14:50):
Get oh Ja Laura another Georgia dog from the Giants.

Speaker 2 (14:53):
I love poaching the Giants. One year contract for next
to nothing, stays act next.

Speaker 1 (14:58):
To nothing, and he's had the injury bug, but he
can play and play ball.

Speaker 2 (15:05):
Next to nothing. A couple of years ago he had
double digit secks all right, I'll roll those dice.

Speaker 1 (15:10):
That's what That's what I would cause value because you're
getting these guys at depressed numbers and they do have
at some point they were very good. And like again
the Makuai Beckton thing was a reclamation project and they
think Stotland University can do that with you know, they
got green from the Texans and the CJ GJ trade.
I'm not so sure how he's done with the edge rushers.

(15:32):
Is it enough to this platoon system that they're gonna
use instead of getting and again, I think it's not
Prooden to go out and get a Miles Garret or
a Trey Hendrickson.

Speaker 2 (15:41):
But can it work? Yeah, and you're gonna love this
Stays act. Just prepare, Okay, you might have to lean
on Bryce's huff a little bit because I wouldn't that
be found money. If he could play, that would be
found money. It would be found money.

Speaker 1 (16:02):
But yeah, but if he couldn't play last year, and
obviously like Angel like either trust you he doesn't he
had all seasoned to and.

Speaker 2 (16:11):
Like he had a risk injury for a bit.

Speaker 1 (16:13):
I don't know, Yeah he did, can he play? Like
I mean, they found a diamond in bond, but he
tried to bring in Bryce Huff who had some flashes,
and then he did nothing. Or is he just did
not able to pick up the system?

Speaker 2 (16:33):
Those are all finger crossing moves. I think. I don't know,
but he showed me nothing. But for what it's worth.
Were you up? Were you excited about Nolan Smith after
his rookie year? No, and now he's indispensable Georgia guys.

Speaker 1 (16:49):
In the beginning of the season, I was like, these
guys aren't as good as they were advertised, just didn't win.
All of a sudden, they became greater than great then,
you know, greater and greater than it was great. I
mean they real quickly because no, I thought they all sucked.
For Jalen Carr and even.

Speaker 2 (17:05):
He's a for sure, but Nolan Smith actually, going back
to Josh Sweat, he actually picked up the slack when
they needed it. I like Jlex Hunt, by the way,
Am I the only one? Can I just stop for
a second? Jlex Hunt? Am I the only one that
wishes he would take a half step back lining up?

(17:26):
He looks like he's in the neutral zone every time.

Speaker 1 (17:29):
Am I the only one that thinks that he went
to the d Ford school, you know, three point stance
for what a shame?

Speaker 2 (17:38):
That was? Right?

Speaker 1 (17:40):
They go to is they go to a super Bowl.
The Patriots don't win a super Bowl if he doesn't
line up like two yards off side.

Speaker 2 (17:47):
You're right, You're right.

Speaker 1 (17:48):
I was again, I mean, hey, what do you think
of not saying what do you think is going to happen?
And this is a little off to but the touchbusters it.

Speaker 2 (18:01):
You know what's funny. I was thinking of that before
I came on. What does it say about teams and
players when they change a rule for you, Chamberlain, they
wided they widened the lane, Iverson, they changed the carry rule.
They changed these rules when somebody is so dominant in

(18:22):
this case, I was thinking about this. Other people try it.
There's nothing. There's no special sauce like a Wilt Chamberlain
or what Iverson does or what certain players do.

Speaker 1 (18:32):
No individual because Kelsey laughed and still can run it.

Speaker 2 (18:36):
Yeah, and I swear to God if I hear one
more time, well, don't forget Jalen squats.

Speaker 1 (18:41):
Six hundred oh stop it, stop it.

Speaker 3 (18:45):
And even debunk that as they brought AJ Dillon as
soon as AJ Dillon came in.

Speaker 2 (18:50):
That's immediately another one right to push him even further.

Speaker 1 (18:56):
But it's not an injury thing.

Speaker 2 (18:58):
And yet you know what stays seriously stop with the
it's a sneak. They're like, well, you have to be
careful with.

Speaker 1 (19:05):
Sneaks, and they found a loophole and the rules.

Speaker 2 (19:08):
You don't want to get your quarterback hurt. I've never
the only Actually that's not true. I have seen someone
get hurt on the tush push. When the Giants tried it.

Speaker 1 (19:17):
That's the first time they tried it. They told me afterwards,
He's like, well, we never practiced it. We just threw
it out there and tried it. They got two guys
hurt on that play.

Speaker 2 (19:25):
Well, don't kidd. If the Eagles practice it, it's important
to them. And if you do it right, it is unstoppable.
It used to be a rule you couldn't do it.
I'm not going to cry about it one way or another.
I don't think you should get rid of it because
one team is really good at it right and that's
what they're doing. Essentially.

Speaker 1 (19:45):
The Bills were two for six on it against the
Chiefs in the Air she Title game, and Josh Allen.
They were put on tape and the Chiefs knew that.
They said in the meeting, Well, they he takes a
snap and he goes off the guard. Well he did
that all game and I just were like standing there
and mcgermott a file of people.

Speaker 3 (20:04):
Yeah, and McDermott was one of them that was concerned
about injury.

Speaker 1 (20:07):
He said that, oh really, so so you're telling me
you put your guys in farl six times.

Speaker 3 (20:12):
That game and then decided it was a bad idea.
I was bully ran it second most behind the Eagles
last year.

Speaker 2 (20:21):
And Josh Allen is in a little boy. You should
be able to fall forward for it, I mean, and
look not for nothing. Even the Eagles took a little
bit of a step back with it. So last year
two yeah, if it was a yard, it was like,
go get it now. This year I was.

Speaker 1 (20:38):
Like Jacksonville stopped him a couple of times.

Speaker 2 (20:41):
I'd like it a little inside of a yard. I agree.
My favorite was Funstybb.

Speaker 3 (20:50):
My favorite part about the Toush push is we signed
Saquon Barkley and us as fans thought immediately the put
Tush push was going away.

Speaker 2 (20:58):
Yeah, no way, because Runway.

Speaker 4 (21:02):
Has the greatest season ever.

Speaker 2 (21:04):
I mean just and how many touchdowns were left on
the board. He could have had eighteen twenty touchdowers in
a normal season with a different team, for sure.

Speaker 1 (21:15):
Let me ask you something there because I don't want
to compare him to DeMarco Murray. But before DeMarco Murray
came here at four hundred and ninety nine touches the
year he had eighteen hundred yards came here. I remember
that one game they played against the Cowboys, he had
thirteen carries for two yards. Like it was just disgraceful,
and he couldn't he didn't pick up the system and

(21:36):
he was just not good. After that year, Barkley just carried.
He had four hundred plus the playoffs, she had upwards
of four point thirty in terms of carries touches. I'm sorry,
how does that affect him? Is he one of those
guys that, like Lebron's, still playing well and one of
the best players at forty two or is that going

(21:56):
to affect him? Like most running backs talk.

Speaker 2 (22:00):
About that Because when the Eagles signed him, I wasn't crying.
I wasn't dying for him, but I wasn't crying. Wait,
sweet it's not breaking the bank. Fine, But last year,
before the Eagles had him, before all this, I was like,
like a lot of people, if he stays healthy because
he has had injury If anyone to me, I don't

(22:24):
know what's going to happen this year, like nobody does.
But to me, if you're expecting this again, you're gonna
be I think you're gonna be so. So, Yes, the
touches matter, but I'm not getting rid of my injury
concerns from last year after he had a huge workload.
I still have those same, maybe more injury concerns. And
if you want to discuss that, I Sean, I don't

(22:48):
know how much you love AJ Dillon.

Speaker 3 (22:50):
But.

Speaker 4 (22:51):
I got the whole season.

Speaker 2 (22:53):
Yeah, does he have a neck issue issue? Yeah? Okay,
Well ask ask Kobe how that goes. Deck injuries are
not good. That's Peyton neck injuries Manning.

Speaker 1 (23:02):
That's the same thing I have. That's why he's done.
He couldn't throw a twenty yard out at the end
of his career.

Speaker 2 (23:08):
No, the Broncos won in spite of him that year. Yeah, right,
So I still think I would prefer another back to
bring in. Actually, I was looking at like honestly, you
guys can make fun of me all you want. This
is what I'm here for. Okay. Before he signed with Dallas,
I was like, I don't know if I would cry
if we got Miles Sanders back.

Speaker 1 (23:30):
He didn't have a good Super Bowl, but he had
like twelve hundred yards that year. He was he was fine.

Speaker 2 (23:36):
He had a big year, and he's backing up Saquon.
They can fight for who wears number twenty six.

Speaker 1 (23:41):
I think I know who wins total. I didn't like
Kenny Gainwell, Kenny Gainwell, they didn't. They didn't save a
whole lot of money with letting him go. Steelers didn't
pay him a whole lot. I know he played well
against the Steelers, and they probably saw that game like wow, okay, skating.

Speaker 2 (23:58):
Well right, I mean, good player. I have Actually was
always surprised because he used to be a wide receiver.
I thought they were going to use him in the
passing game a lot more. They never did. But he
was what he was and he was fine. Shipley, I'm
probably fine with him. I might. I'm thinking, if Saquon
goes down, how much do you trust Shipley?

Speaker 3 (24:18):
You do?

Speaker 2 (24:18):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (24:19):
I mean he's a he's a burst of energy. But
I don't know can I keep up for over the
course of games. I don't know, what if you need
him for three games? I like my Yeah, I like
my I like the Miles centers idea, well.

Speaker 2 (24:31):
That's off the table. But I mean even Javonte Williams
the Cowboys got now for them, that's great. Their running
game was so future last year. These are huge upgrades
for them, you know, congratulations. Like I'm not saying. I
think Najie Harris is still out there. I believe. I
don't know.

Speaker 1 (24:49):
He got to got too Gainwell's place. He's taken, did
not wait, I thought now as he went to the Chargers.

Speaker 2 (24:54):
Now, am I wrong?

Speaker 4 (24:55):
He may have he did go to the Chargers.

Speaker 2 (24:58):
Okay, I missed that. I had seen that he was
still out there. Okay, I wouldn't even have gone with that. Anyway,
With this line, you can probably get away with a lot.
Probably can.

Speaker 1 (25:09):
They used to do a platoon system, and they led
the league in rushing in twenty twenty one here on
his first year, and they led the league and it
was a platoon system.

Speaker 2 (25:17):
Well in twenty seventeen, I don't think any of us
were overly in love individually with and Corey Clement.

Speaker 1 (25:25):
Corey Clement, they made it work, made it work, you
know what to do with that that offensive line, which
I know I think they just extended laying another year.

Speaker 2 (25:33):
I guess they did.

Speaker 1 (25:34):
Yeah, what are they doing at right guard? Is this
Steam's job to lose? Or do you think uh does Green?
Green's another value? Guys almost to bust for the Texan
was the fifteen almost fifteenth overall pick a couple of
years ago as really I think pro football focus, which
sometimes I think there is off, he's off, but they

(25:55):
had him as like one of the worst guards in
the league.

Speaker 2 (25:58):
So now, so what I've read is that Texans fans
could not show him the door fast enough get out
of here. And just to your point on PFF, A
lot of times it's or a pro football No, it's
a PFF. I think at one point toward the end
of last year, they didn't have Saquon in the top

(26:18):
ten of running backs. I guess I'm sorry, How am
I gonna believe another word you say? Yeah, you have
the credibility? Shut ye, come on, I don't know what
your algorithm is. I might want to rethink it. I
got eyeballs. But but right guard, you're right, Okay, Steen
he's second round pick what two years ago? Yep, I

(26:41):
don't hate him. When he's played, I'm fine with it.
I guess they'll they'll, they're probably okay, But I don't
want to get too cute with it. Okay, perfect example,
Chip Kelly the coach, the Chip Kelly the GM did
not understand that players still trump his system. Chip Kelly

(27:01):
the GM screwed. Chip Kelly the coach, just getting rid
of talent. So I don't want to say, well, we
got Stoutland, all right, we do. Let's not get cute.
You still need guys that can play.

Speaker 1 (27:13):
I agree now, just because Makai Beckton, they turned into, like,
you know, an all animal. He's already six seven, like
three thirty, like he's an animal. Yeah, but I'm not
saying they can do that with everybody.

Speaker 2 (27:27):
No, And you don't want to fall into the well
I can coach anyone, right, you know. You know it's funny.
I was just talking to a friend of mine about
the Belichick Brady argument. I always said that I'm wrong
all the time, but in this case, I wasn't. I
was like, well, Brady's the one out there doing it. Yeah,
I'm gonna go Brady here.

Speaker 1 (27:45):
You can't go coach over.

Speaker 2 (27:47):
If he had Nathan Peterman. We're not talking about Belichick.
Ask Browns fans how much they always the one I
always go to when I when I use an example.

Speaker 1 (27:55):
Of the worst of the worst, it's the best.

Speaker 3 (28:01):
That poor guy we have less on a couple of
weeks ago. If you remember, he mentioned about as great
as Scallon is, he also had Chance Wallmack took him
on as a rehabilitation and it's still doesn't always work
exactly exactly. So it seems like they're hoping because again

(28:23):
Steam was the starter until he got hurt, So it
seems like they're trying to hope that they catch lightning
in the bottle again in that position.

Speaker 2 (28:32):
I mean, I like the concept of Chance Warmack for
my first round pick, Makai Beckton, I don't know, Like
I'm like everybody else. When they draft these guys, they
show the highlights, like that's the extent of my draft scouting.
That guy was just throwing people like eight yards at BC.
I'm like, oh my god, I want to see this
guy at the end of but he couldn't play tackle. Now,

(28:54):
I do like the theory of maybe high talent, highly
draft did tackles that you could move to guard, because
if you remember Tony Mandrich, remember the incredible bulk, the
whole sports stopped shut. Yeah, he couldn't play tackle, but
he actually had a decent career as a guard. Remember
Robert Gallery in two thousand and four, number two overall

(29:15):
picks from Iowa. Reckon people at Iowa, but he couldn't
get his hands on anyone in the NFL. They ran
around him. They moved him to guard. Gallery actually had
a good career as a guard because he could fire
out and get his hands on people. Not everyone's built
for tackle. I don't have a problem with bringing in,
you know, highly touted guys and see if Stoutland can

(29:35):
can do something with him. I'm fine with it.

Speaker 1 (29:37):
Well, you probably had to like Joe Thuney. Why did
Dick kansasity Chiefs Chade trade him. I know he had
a trouble adjusting in the Super Bowl to a different position,
but he was one of the best offensive line. Was
he ad tackle that tried to play guard in that game?
Or guard that tried to play tackle? I can't remember
guard playing tackle tackle.

Speaker 2 (29:55):
But to your point, I don't understand why they traded
him unless there is money things that I don't understand,
which is highly possible. But I didn't see an offensive
line in that Super Bowl that could afford to lose.

Speaker 1 (30:08):
Right, unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (30:12):
I mean it, Jwan Taylor, How they're they're right tackle?
How is he still in the league. That guy is
either giving up a sack, getting a penalty. He can't
line upright. How is he still even on the field.

Speaker 1 (30:26):
He's a walking penalty flag? Yes he is, totally is
They got to rebuild that? I mean, I look like
the Super Bowl against the Buccaneers a few years ago,
were running almost running for his life. Yes, it shows
you he can be the best quarterback you know on
nine different nine different galaxies. But you don't have time
to throw and you're getting tossed around. You got you know,

(30:47):
Brady looks normal when the Giants were sending guys up
the middle and he didn't have time step into his
throws or do his thing.

Speaker 2 (30:54):
So quarterbacks don't like guys in their kitchen. They don't
like nobody does.

Speaker 1 (31:00):
Good stuff. Man, just real quick to wrap. I mean
the NFC. He's okay. I mean, the Giants are what
they are. I don't know what they're doing a quarterback
except for James Winston. I guess that's what they're doing cowboys.
He didn't make too many big splashes. Washington bolstered the
offense a little bit. They got Deebo shame, and I
know the defense was their problem though.

Speaker 2 (31:19):
Okay, stop there for a second, because obviously Washington's the
hot team. Last year, everyone looked Jayden Dames, we love them,
all of it. Why did they cut Jonathan Allen, who
is your best defensive tackle. He was the only guy
that could stop the run on a defense that could
not stop the run. I think they were like third
worst in the league, and you just cut them.

Speaker 4 (31:38):
Deebo.

Speaker 2 (31:39):
I'm fine with him for a fifth, But if you
think you're getting three years ago, Deebo, I got news
for you. No, he's out of shape, he's kind of
a headache. He's a gadget guy. I mean, all right,
the round pick fine. I'm not in love with Washington's offseason,
and they do have cap room, and they're a desirable
place to go, right because Jayden and their hot in

(32:00):
the door. Now I'm not saying you waste it all
on free agents that you think are gonna help whatever.
So I don't know if I'm in love with Washington
the way I thought I would be. But there's still
time whatever, It's very early.

Speaker 1 (32:14):
There was time, but I was scratched my head. As
to Jonathan Allen thing too, I didn't get that again.

Speaker 2 (32:19):
You look.

Speaker 4 (32:20):
Maybe did you hear about Jaden's mom, Micah?

Speaker 2 (32:25):
No, did I don't. I don't know. I guess.

Speaker 3 (32:29):
Apparently his mom is being criticized for separating Jaden and
Juju Watkins. Apparently they were sitting together or something and
his mother came in, and she's been very adamant about
women in Jaden's life.

Speaker 2 (32:47):
That I did hear a while ago, that he's very
I mean, I appreciate. Yeah, I did hear that a
while ago. I didn't know that specific story, but I
have heard that she monitors his dating habits, which.

Speaker 5 (33:04):
Come on, come on, But think about it, Joe, you
got five million from the NL, so I mean, she's
doing okay.

Speaker 4 (33:15):
She's a good girl.

Speaker 2 (33:18):
But there's there's also the theory of do you guys
remember Prince of Mukamara from The Giants? Well, Supposedly, some
of his teammates thought he got a lot better after
he got married because he had been saving himself from marriage,
and without getting into too much detail, they were like,
finally he was able to just like really, So there
is some theory of that too. I get women can
be a distraction to all of us, and we're all

(33:40):
guilty of it. Of course I raised my hand. I'm
guilty of it. But there's some were.

Speaker 3 (33:46):
Gonna have a hell of a time with that story.

Speaker 2 (33:51):
We'll have to monitor that one. If he's on a
reality show at some point, who wants to date my son?
Good stuff?

Speaker 1 (34:00):
Man, Stop before we get into Philly, because they're starting
a couple of day. Let's just talk a little sixter.
First of all, I showed Sean, so why we start
a little lady? You couldn't stop laughing at your fake.

Speaker 4 (34:11):
I can't even believe it took me this long.

Speaker 1 (34:13):
Like I'm like, yeah, he's always on Twitter Bryce Brown account.

Speaker 2 (34:17):
Oh you're doing with the Brett Brown six.

Speaker 1 (34:20):
I'm sorry, Yeah, he had six Brown tell us a
little bit about that because he was laughing his ash off.

Speaker 2 (34:26):
I was all right, So I remember when I was
living in Doylestown, Pa, and my wife at the time,
we were driving to the to the gym. And you
know how when Philly gets any sports, they get a
new coach, they have like their introductory press, you know, interview,
Like for us, it's w ip right. And as soon
as I heard him talk, I looked at my wife

(34:47):
and I was like, I have to make a Twitter
account for this. He's got a super thick accent. I
know the accent well, my grandfather had it. I have
family from New England. My dad was from New England.
I went to be I've spent my summers on the Cape.
I know the New England accent. So I was like,
I created this Twitter account and I typed everything phonetically
as he would say it in a Boston accent, and

(35:11):
it started to just get traction, and then the beat
writers followed it, and then people were just retweeting and retweeting,
and all of a sudden, I got three thousand or
more followers. And Tom Moore, who is the Sixers beat
writer for Career post Philly burbs like Bucks County, Courier
Times and some mothers, and I saw him tweet that
he's like I showed Brett Brown today after practice the

(35:32):
Twitter account and my heart sank because I just thought
it's fun. But I don't want to I don't want
to insult him. I don't want him to be upset
about it, like I'm just doing it for fun. And
he said, Tom Moore said, he flipped through my phone
and just laugh and he goes, what a world we
live in now? He actually would have said what a
world we live in? And there were people that would

(35:52):
respond to me like Brett, I saw you last night
at the game. Thanks for talking to my son. I
was like, you think this is a real Do you
think he would really type like this? That's stupid?

Speaker 4 (36:00):
Are you? That's awesome?

Speaker 2 (36:04):
It was so much fun when the Sixers are playing
during the draft anything like that. I was like, you
got a tweet and my wife at times like the
Sixers wrong. You have to tweet because that's when people
are paying attention, and I would just gain hundreds and
hundreds of followers people. I was very upset when you
got fired. I was like, well that's the end of that.

Speaker 1 (36:20):
And didn't you say people would then tweet and say
you sucked tonight or you oh yeah, yeah, yeah, Oh
that was reals.

Speaker 2 (36:27):
You're so stupid. I don't know why you did this.
And I was like, are you reading this? Who would
type like this? It's an excellent it's a way you speak,
you don't and if any if anyone wants to check
it out, it's still up at sixers Brown and I
found like a kind of obnoxious picture to use my
happits why.

Speaker 3 (36:46):
And I saw I saw it September that you were
you were back up and running it.

Speaker 4 (36:51):
I was like, oh my gosh.

Speaker 2 (36:52):
I would throw stuff out there. Just no one cares anymore.
It's just not relevant. It became a character where I
made it up that he would go to Howard Johnson's
after every game and get wasted on Miller Lite. And
I always tried to pick words that ended in R
so that I could write it out cancel, calt you.
And there was beat writers that I would accuse of

(37:14):
being in the mid Howard Johnson's with me after the game,
getting hammered and sleeping on the cat. I don't even
know where. It just took on a life of its own.
It was fun. I had it. That's the most I've
ever gotten out of Twitter. I never really got much
out of twitters. Yeah, I'll never forget he's Mike.

Speaker 3 (37:32):
He used to He used to call in a Missonelli
show maybe once a week during the season.

Speaker 4 (37:36):
I forgot what it was.

Speaker 3 (37:38):
And I remember the one time he was talking and
he was out of breath, and I remember Mike at
one point was like, Bret, you're right, and he's like, yeah,
I'm out for a jog.

Speaker 2 (37:48):
I'm just doing a jog and we don't have the
right players and running. But I actually got caught doing
that impression at a Sixers game and most of my
section turned around and looked at me. One guy goes,
don't stop really like that. I always thought I just

(38:08):
always liked him personal stuff. If that's my claim to
fame for life, like put it on my tombstone, that's
all I got.

Speaker 1 (38:17):
Yeah, that's you know Tom Moore's I don't really know
him that well.

Speaker 2 (38:22):
So he reached out to me on d MS. He's like,
I want to It was an off season and he's like,
I want to write an article about this. Brett Brown.
Clearly he's looking for stories. He was probably okay, that's okay,
and he goes, I'll leave you anonymous if you.

Speaker 3 (38:33):
Like, and.

Speaker 1 (38:36):
Get my name out here.

Speaker 2 (38:37):
I don't care blow the lid off of the Brett
brown Stone.

Speaker 1 (38:42):
Absolutely no, that's any ink is trust me good ink.

Speaker 2 (38:46):
And that was I thought you thought it was funny.
That was a playful thing.

Speaker 1 (38:49):
And most of those guys can laugh at themselves.

Speaker 2 (38:52):
Yeah, and he's a felly fellow bum.

Speaker 1 (38:57):
That's right for you, right, my man, you my man
to tell us what's going on with the Sixers?

Speaker 3 (39:03):
Man?

Speaker 1 (39:03):
I mean they got out to a bad start and
got worse.

Speaker 2 (39:08):
Yeah. So I recently went on FanDuel and they gave
me thirty one odds if I could name a starter
on the Sixers. I still I passed it up because
I wasn't sure. So one of my cousins, she's a huge,
huge Sixer fan, and a few weeks ago she texted
me and she's like, oh my god, it's g league
got there. A few weeks later she's like, I was
kind of kidding before, but no, now it really is

(39:30):
legitimately was it D League, g le whatever it is?
This is not a professionals right, you got Grimes. It's like, okay,
am I supposed to be excited about this now. Early
on we were excited about what McClain before he busted
his knee. Yeah, he was balin, but so like it's

(39:51):
him and MAXI moving forward. I'm an embede guy, but
I thought the time to move him was last off season.

Speaker 1 (39:59):
Might have been, yeah, and you waited a year.

Speaker 2 (40:01):
Now He's thirty, broken down, really doesn't play a lot.
I mean, when he's out there, he's the difference. But
he's never out there.

Speaker 1 (40:10):
So what are you really gonna get?

Speaker 2 (40:12):
And don't give me a bunch of first round picks
that are top twenty protected until twenty twenty nine. That
doesn't do anything. We might be starting the process over
with MAXI and McClain. Ouch, it is McLean right, like
I always get it. It's not McCain. I always get
his name wrong.

Speaker 3 (40:33):
Mcke oh. I mean that's a Philly sport thing. We
always get the last answer thing.

Speaker 1 (40:40):
It still call five Donovan, like Donovan, Where did't it
become Donovan?

Speaker 2 (40:47):
If I hear one more person call him Michael Irving,
Oh my god, on the end of his name. I
was on his radio show once too as a guest.
Years ago. I made a Paris I made a Paris
Hilton Coke joke on my on my blog. That's my guy.
Oh you're a Miami guy, right, good time, all right.

Speaker 1 (41:09):
He had me on.

Speaker 2 (41:10):
His show for that.

Speaker 1 (41:12):
He had you on your show for what Paris.

Speaker 2 (41:15):
Hilton had gotten arrested for. I was bored on a weekend.
She had gotten arrested, like in Vegas for some cocaine
or something, and so I wrote the story up and
I was like, she was found with a white powder
and the police immediately called Michael Irvin in to identify
the substance. That was it. Well, it showed up in
Google News because my old website was in Google News,

(41:36):
and I got an email from the producer on that Monday,
and I was like, oh, I'm just kidding. I don't
need to and my friends were like, dude, you gotta
go on. Gotta go on, dude, gotta go on. Michael
didn't really care, but his co host tried to play
it up. He's like, what if Michael's wife read this?
And I was like, she used my website? Yeah, like
that'd be great. Really, come on, dude, like you're you're

(41:58):
really really slow news day you have me on.

Speaker 1 (42:01):
Don't lose that intensity, keep that same intensity. Remember he
came out after the prostitute thing was a sham, and
he's telling them a port right, with that same intensity.
Don't lose that intensity. He bounced back, He bounces back
from more jobs than Missonelli does.

Speaker 2 (42:20):
Well, yeah, well he had they had the White House Inn.
And then there's the story in Jeff Pearlman's book Boys
Will Be Boys that he stabbed Everett mckivor, who was
a backup offensive lineman in the barber's chair, with a
pair of scissors because he wouldn't get out and give
Michael his turn in the barber's chair. Why wouldn't he

(42:40):
get out? I don't know. I would have just gotten
up and been like, yeah, we'll finish this later. He's
got scissors, he might use them, is that right, Jeff Pearlman,
You know Jeff Pearlman, Right, he wrote the John Rocker article,
he wrote the USFL book. Oh god, that's yeah.

Speaker 4 (42:59):
He's trying to make a come back at what.

Speaker 2 (43:03):
He's on X.

Speaker 3 (43:04):
Well you know everybody, Yeah, John Rockers on.

Speaker 2 (43:09):
He's a mega.

Speaker 4 (43:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (43:12):
Yeah. They didn't need didn't need Sherlock Holmes for that one,
or Nola.

Speaker 1 (43:22):
Oh god, So the phils are starting in two days, really,
even though the seasons are last week in like Japan,
and then they came back and played more preseason. I
thought that was stupid, but anyway, so they didn't do
much and they're kind of running the back and they've

(43:43):
gotten since this team has made the playoffs three years
in a row, kind of like what they did after
they won the World Series every year, exactly what they
did after they've gone to less. They've got less further,
that's far. And they got bounced in four games by
the match Bryce Harper. I don't know why the reporter
I forget who wrote the story doesn't follow up on

(44:04):
this because Bryce Harper said twice the last two years,
we got out hit, we got out played, we got
out coached. Now I don't like Rob Thompson all that
much for some things he's done in the postseason I
thought were glaring in all maybe two of the three years.
And their approach to hitting hasn't changed. So you can
get rid of all the hitting coaches. You wont they

(44:26):
either hit home runs and win games by like ten,
or you know, they strike out seventeen times and they
fold up their ten after a two games to nothing
lead over the Diamondbacks, who won eighty games that year,
you know what I mean, like, and they went, Look,
they had Houston on the ropes and then they get
no hit first time since only second time Don Larson

(44:48):
did it. You know, that was a perfect game. Now,
but they got no hit. They hit zero nine to
five the rest of that series in the next three games.
Their approach is terrible. And it was kind of the
same thing against the Mets. Mets them go on and
face the Dodgers, and Dodgers knocked him around for almost
ten runs a game. Yeah, what are your thoughts?

Speaker 2 (45:08):
I will say in that Houston, just because you mentioned that,
I think they had what three runs in the last
three games. You're not gonna win, you know, Blame the
pitching all you want. You're not winning many games putting
up a run for twenty eight. Yeah, the big guys,
it was bad. I do have a I do have
a problem with Schwober leading off.

Speaker 1 (45:30):
Now, I was gonna ask you that, Okay.

Speaker 2 (45:31):
Rob Thompson has a point. He was like, I know,
but we tend to win when he leads off. He's right,
they tend to win more games when he leads off.
But I'm sorry, am I being an old man? I
don't think I'm that old you're.

Speaker 1 (45:44):
Going old school. You're going old school.

Speaker 2 (45:45):
But a clear number four hitter is leading off. I get.
We don't have was Juan Pierre and Louis Castillo. Remember
with the Marlins, those two leading off the top. This
isn't that lineup, but you can we have somebody that
gets on base that is a threat to steal or
score or I I'm not a huge metrics fan, I'm

(46:07):
not a saber.

Speaker 1 (46:08):
I think if he does go back in the lineup,
he's gonna see pitches. If he's gonna hit forty five
home runs a year and driving one hundred runs, I
don't know, I'm asking.

Speaker 2 (46:15):
I don't know. He'll have protection. We'll have a little
bit of production, you will. We're assuming Harper is hitting
three yes, and depending on which Castianos you're getting could
be five or which rail Mudo you're getting could.

Speaker 1 (46:31):
Be Okay, I guess you're gonna lead off, Turner.

Speaker 2 (46:35):
Lead off for a second.

Speaker 3 (46:36):
Right, So then Schwarburg forward said yesterday that he's thinking
about platooning when left handing pitching. Turner and Schwarber lead off.
But I think it's gonna be Turner leading off. I
don't I actually think you're gonna get your wish and

(46:59):
you will see.

Speaker 2 (47:00):
That's your only change this year.

Speaker 1 (47:01):
Like they're gonna run back with base like you said,
the same team, because we're not gonna know what Ray
Milto is gonna bring. Cash is pretty good clutch hitter,
like you know, when the game's on the line. But
then he can go call for you know, weeks and weeks.

Speaker 2 (47:13):
Right. They love him and hate him? Yeah, so love
hate yeah, yeah, depending on the day, depending on I
don't know to your point. Again, I worry about the
metrics of it all, and sometimes you just get too
cute and look. I lived up in North Jersey in
the early two thousands. I know Tori. I watched a
lot of Yankees games. Is he a great manager?

Speaker 3 (47:36):
No?

Speaker 2 (47:36):
They could pitch and hit. Let me manage him, right.
I thought Tory managed his bullpen rather poorly, if I'm
being honest, relying on guys like Quantrille and like, oh,
you're gonna use them again tonight, okay, because his arm's
gonna fall off. Charlie Manuel. Don't forget when Charlie Manuel
came here. Do you remember the quote? I think it
was his first year. He goes well, but sometimes forget

(47:59):
the picture hits in the National League. I was like,
you just said that out loud. Please, this is classic
fodder for private conversation. Okay, don't say I forget the
pitcher hits in the National League. We thought he was
a bumpkin. We were like, what are you doing? All
of a sudden we could pitch and hit. Now he's
a legend. And now he's a legend. So as a manager,

(48:23):
I'm a less is more. Let's not get too cute,
because you're just over the course of one hundred and
sixty two games, at some point you're gonna outthink yourself
put the players in that give you the best chance.
I'm not saying don't pay attention to situations, of course,
but like you're saying, when you start messing with lead

(48:43):
off and stuff, I mean, let's be honest, Traig, Turner
and Schwarber are not similar players. That's a big decision
you're making if you're going to rotate those guys.

Speaker 3 (48:54):
I mean, I, on my perfect line, my perfect batting order,
I have Turner, Harper, second, Boom, third, Schwore or fourth,
Costiano's fifth, Stott, sixth, Kepler, seventh, real Utah eighth and
then Mike platoon of marsh and Rojas. That's that's my hope.

Speaker 2 (49:13):
I don't hate that. But you got real mudo down there, huh.

Speaker 4 (49:15):
I do, I do.

Speaker 3 (49:17):
I just I think he's I think he's declined, I
really do's.

Speaker 2 (49:23):
He's probably on the back nine.

Speaker 3 (49:24):
Yeah, And I just I don't know. They were messing
around with him. I remember if it was last year
where they put him up at two for a little
bit and he did well and then he started to decline.

Speaker 4 (49:35):
So I don't know.

Speaker 3 (49:36):
I think if you throw him down at it and
you just let him do his thing and not pay
attention to him, maybe he works his way up the lineup.
I just I don't know. I love him, but I
just I think we're seeing seeing the end of him.

Speaker 4 (49:48):
Well.

Speaker 2 (49:48):
There is more of a theory these days too, right
when you slide guys down that it can lead into
the because after a leadoff hitter only leads off once
unless it's dictated later in the game. So at some
point point, somebody's got to be ahead of him. And
I think I've seen more of a theory lately in
baseball of putting somebody decent maybe at eight and nine.

(50:08):
That can get the lineup turned over better. So I
wouldn't hate it for that reason. But again, we don't
know what rail Boom is. Huh boy, you know what?
And this is why I hate spring training. All I
hear Taiwan Walker looks really good? Shut up, stop it.
He's already got to be in the rotation right now
because Suarez is going to start the season on the

(50:29):
I L we call it now. He's got a lower
back problem. That's not good.

Speaker 4 (50:35):
Walkers in your rotation yesterday? Who did twan?

Speaker 2 (50:40):
He gets right, He's got like an E R A
over seven last year.

Speaker 4 (50:43):
Stupid, but he looks great. Micah looks.

Speaker 2 (50:46):
Oh, Boom's knocking the crap out of the ball too,
because that's funny because I thought you wanted to trade
him this off season.

Speaker 4 (50:53):
Pounds.

Speaker 2 (50:54):
Oh, it's spring training is brutal. It is brutal. But
you know what, We still that the Phillies still have
an excellent team. It still comes down to and we've
seen it year after year. Who's playing well? Remember the
first season the Phillies made the playoffs in my adult
lifetime in O seven, they ran into the Rockies, didn't

(51:15):
they win like twenty nine to thirty one games just
to make the playoffs. They were an absolute buzz sol
We ran right into them and ended up I think
it was I forget who beat them, But they had
an advantage because they ran through it so quick. They
had rest, and you know in baseball, rest ain't always

(51:37):
a good thing if you're playing well. Sure, so it
does come down to if the Phillies are ten games
back in July or August, you just want to get
in the dance, and if you're playing well, that's your chance.
I remember asking David Wells before the eighty eight in
two thousand and eight, when it was down to the
final four and it was Phillies, Dodgers and Red Sox

(51:59):
Rays and I was doing some event or something. I
was talking to David Wells. I was like, David, come on,
my Phillies have a chance and he said he said
the word. But he's like, ef no, because we were
probably the fourth best team of those four, but we
were playing well at the right time. Do I think
the Phillies were the best team in baseball and eight? No?

Speaker 1 (52:23):
Well, it doesn't matter his argument. What's the best team?
You mean the roster because the best team doesn't always
win as the team who plays the best.

Speaker 2 (52:32):
How did Seattle do when they won one hundred and
sixteen games or whatever?

Speaker 1 (52:34):
I mean, I got bounced in the first round, but
the Yanks.

Speaker 2 (52:37):
Yeah, So I'd rather be patient, thou And you know,
Phillies a very patient town. They're very patient with their team.
So just be patient because remember last year May June,
I mean, WIP was lit up with this. I don't
I don't see how this team loses this year. And
I was like, you know what, I appreciate the sentiment.

(52:59):
It's easy to say right now, the Phillies look great.
Talk to me in August, because they're gonna hit a skid.
Everybody's gonna hit a skid. You're gonna go hot and cold.
It's baseball and it's a long season, right, Yeah, you
just hope they're hitting their stride at the right time. Yeah,
it's just that you have Tywan Walker as your ace.
What can they do about listen?

Speaker 1 (53:22):
I know, I guess you can't make turn of the
DH because he hurts you out there at shortstop, like
he's not a good fielder.

Speaker 2 (53:30):
Well, traditionally, explain this to me, because I'm not a
baseball junkie. The way I am with the NFL historically,
isn't Trey Turner an excellent shortstop? Wasn't that one of
the things we were excited I mean before he came here?

Speaker 1 (53:41):
Yeah, before, or of course they're always good before. Right,
he's not anymore? You know, he's the Dave kingman of
round balls, you know, except there's the fly ball. You know,
do do the war dance and trying to catch a pop?

Speaker 2 (53:53):
But well, who's the kid who's the shortstop that's twenty
coming up?

Speaker 1 (53:59):
I can't image thinking about I'm not in baseball moudget,
so I can't think of his name, But yeah, I
was thinking about is he too young?

Speaker 2 (54:05):
Is he ready to play? I mean? And what about
the other where are we on? Painter? He's missed the
last two seasons, but everyone says, this kid has stuff
like you've never seen.

Speaker 4 (54:16):
You're right, I haven't seen all the time, Painter.

Speaker 3 (54:20):
He'll he's going to pitch. If all goes well, he'll
be up June July. Ish, Okay, good, you know, to
kind of give you your your your sixth man rotation,
so to say. But you know, as far as I
lost my train of thought, as far as Turner, I

(54:42):
have this weird feeling. Are we being extremely hard on him?
Like our parents were hard on Mike Schmidt. Now I'm
not saying that Trey Turner is a Hall of Famer.

Speaker 4 (54:56):
I'm not.

Speaker 3 (54:57):
Him as a player, but I'm comparing us as fans.

Speaker 4 (55:02):
Are we just laying into this guy?

Speaker 2 (55:05):
Why would we not be?

Speaker 1 (55:06):
He struts in the field and he's shut the postseason two.
Like in terms of the clutch back batch, I know
he actually hit not bad last year in the regular I.

Speaker 4 (55:16):
Mean, well, that's just it.

Speaker 3 (55:17):
Last year he was on fire, he was he was
having a hell of the year. He gets hurt and
then okay, he played like ship for the rest of
the year or a bat of two forty seven. I
think it was so I get that part of it.
But I mean, the guy is just.

Speaker 1 (55:34):
I don't know, if I talk in this town and
don't produce when you're getting over three hundred million dollars.

Speaker 2 (55:41):
He stays act here, you got you. Yeah. I think
most fan bases are like this. We're a different animal
in Philadelphia. We are rabid, and that's fine. That's why
people make a lot of money because people care. Yeah,
but stay zac said it. It's when when when we
see somebody getting paid, and I'm sure other fan bases
do it, it's like you better be awesome, you better,

(56:03):
you better, you better bet a bat nine hundred and fifty.
I don't want to hear the word yeah. I'm honestly,
that's how they get treated. So they're judged on their salary,
which I didn't pay him. It's not my money and
there's no cap. Now if the Eagles overpaid, let's say
I'm the Bryce off okay, right, that affects my cap,
So that affects my team. So I can have input

(56:25):
on that. When you pay a guy like Trey Turner,
even Bryce Harper broke the bank at the time. Now
he's quote unquote underpaid. Whatever they're gonna hold you to
that standard. Did they think three hundred plus million gets you?

Speaker 1 (56:39):
Because that puts a value on you in terms of
how what you're worth.

Speaker 2 (56:43):
We spent all this money and that's you know and.

Speaker 3 (56:49):
Slump that where we gave a standing oh and helped
him get out of it. Jack, We witnessed his for
who for what moment?

Speaker 4 (57:02):
He's a solid baseball player. We're just not I don't know,
like Ricky Waters. We never sat back and looked and said, oh,
he had a.

Speaker 2 (57:09):
Hell of a career for the He's the only running
back in NFL history with a thousand yards with three
different teams. He was fantastic. For who for What's going
to live on forever. I have a T shirt store
online and I have for Who for What and for
who mugs and T shirts and my friends are like, well,
is anyone gonna know what that means? And I was like,

(57:30):
if you're an Eagles fan, you know for I use
it and read I use it in everyday life all
the time. I'm like, yeah, well for who for what?
It's just part of how I speak now. But Ricky
Waters was fantastic. He's one of the most underrated running
backs of all time. He was amazing. It was amazing
here he really was.

Speaker 4 (57:50):
And he wanted to come here. That was his like,
it was all about it. I never forget it.

Speaker 3 (57:57):
Was what Glenn mcnow was on the radio and he
was like, apparently we have this guy Ricky Waters, Sandy's
Ricky Waters and here he wanted to come here, which was.

Speaker 2 (58:05):
He called into w ip ah.

Speaker 4 (58:07):
Yeah, no, there was.

Speaker 3 (58:08):
There was something that was going on where there was
rumors that he wanted to come to Philadelphia and he
ended up. It was when he signed or something, and
because he was from Pennsylvania and yeah, he was like
some guys calling in Sandy's Ricky Waters and turned out
it was I've.

Speaker 2 (58:27):
Heard of guys doing that sometimes. And you know what,
another thing too, don't forget how great was Charlie. We
had Ricky Waters and Charlie Garner in the backfield.

Speaker 1 (58:35):
Yes, breakout game against San Francisco.

Speaker 2 (58:42):
Yeah, my friend called me during the game and he
just goes, dude, we got Barry Sanders on our and
he hung up. I was like, okay, whatever, Yes, but
remember he was hurting his rookie year. That was the
first game he played. He was the second round pick
one out of Tennessee and no one really knew and
then he just started, Oh my god. And he went
on to a great career with the Raiders. Charlie Garner

(59:04):
was an incredible running back, so fast, and we had
them in our backfield together, and no one really talks
about that. I mean that because for years we couldn't
buy one. Remember when they used to try and tell
us Anthony Tony and Keith Byer's were good running backs. Yes, Now,
granted the line suck and we had we traded a
first round pick for Ron Soult. Oh my lord, my god,

(59:25):
that line was so bad.

Speaker 4 (59:27):
Hebron.

Speaker 2 (59:28):
We were excited for No Sean, You're wrong. We were
excited for von Hebron Kings Joseph and I was like,
Robert Drummond, this guy, you gotta watch this guy, Robert Drummond.

Speaker 1 (59:38):
Come on.

Speaker 2 (59:39):
Sherman led the NFL in yards per carry in ninety
two ninety one with five yards.

Speaker 1 (59:46):
And five yards good. And it was the one who was.
Oh Man, who was the one who was? He was
a complete He has like the worst yards per carry
in NFL history.

Speaker 2 (59:57):
Thomas Saunders him. Remember he played a little Yeah, yeah,
he did a little bit. Of course.

Speaker 1 (01:00:04):
Then there was it, Oh you're talking about not Hubie Oliver,
but Michael Haddocks.

Speaker 2 (01:00:12):
Michael Haddocks, thank you for first shround pick in nineteen
eighty three. It's not like there was any other good
players in that.

Speaker 4 (01:00:17):
Draft that was during from what was it from l
Way to Marino?

Speaker 2 (01:00:24):
Right, Yeah, I think Haddocks was eighth overall. Stays Acto,
I have that.

Speaker 1 (01:00:27):
Right, that's right.

Speaker 2 (01:00:30):
Way too high is the answer.

Speaker 3 (01:00:33):
This stat that they show on that thirty for thirty.
I forget what it is he was like in the NFL.
For like what a month.

Speaker 2 (01:00:40):
Addox was tough. I mean, I think in eighty four
we took Kenny Jackson fourth overall out of Penn State
and then brought him back later after we cut him.
He came back later. I mean Phil Smith, Ron Johnson.
I mean, we can go through the eighties.

Speaker 1 (01:00:55):
Brutal, dude, brutal who was the one childhood.

Speaker 2 (01:01:01):
This is the kind of stuff stays act. This is
what I was telling you yesterday. This is the stuff
that people are like Micah. No one cares, no one.

Speaker 1 (01:01:07):
Oh I know too, Michah.

Speaker 3 (01:01:10):
Micah my favorite that me and I Butch my buddies
say all the time.

Speaker 4 (01:01:15):
I can't teach height.

Speaker 2 (01:01:22):
I can't teach height. He comes to the ballpark every
day only in Philly.

Speaker 1 (01:01:28):
Man, Well, Michael, we appreciate you coming on.

Speaker 2 (01:01:30):
Man.

Speaker 1 (01:01:31):
We got a wrap that was fantastic.

Speaker 2 (01:01:33):
Thanks for having me on. I hope I didn't bore
you too much. And I'll dress better next time. I
have nice clothes.

Speaker 4 (01:01:39):
Man. This is fun.

Speaker 1 (01:01:40):
This is goods in my dining room. Thursday night, no questions.

Speaker 2 (01:01:45):
Ash, I'm in my mom's living room right now and
I'm going to tell her about this. But at least,
at least I appreciate. Usually when I would end my
podcast with Luther Broughton Sean, don't know if you remember.
Luther is a tight end for the Eagles that I
did pot. He would always end every podcast with a
negative comment about my mother. So I appreciate you guys
not doing that. We'll think of something else.

Speaker 4 (01:02:11):
Yeah, get me my dad out of it.

Speaker 1 (01:02:16):
I'll tell you once again where we can find you,
where you can find all your stuff.

Speaker 2 (01:02:19):
It's great man heavy dot com. Right now, I've been
writing about the Bengals, Dolphins, Falcons, Colts, and I'll write
about I'll keep writing about more. I'm sure there's other
places to fine me, but I don't know that right now.
That's probably the one. Awesome, But I appreciate it, man.
I love anytime you guys want to kill some time
and be like that dude doesn't shut up. We could

(01:02:39):
just like we could have just let him go.

Speaker 1 (01:02:41):
We could have I have a cardboard cut out of
me out there. I could have just sat here for
a while.

Speaker 3 (01:02:48):
Joe I'm coming over Thursday. Man, if he's there, I'm there.

Speaker 2 (01:02:51):
Are you coming over? Let's do it.

Speaker 4 (01:02:53):
I'm coming over.

Speaker 2 (01:02:54):
We'll have a good time.

Speaker 1 (01:02:56):
Man. You may watch some games or something, but a little.

Speaker 2 (01:02:59):
Little college who I had Saint John's winning it at all,
So I'm not going to be paying too much.

Speaker 1 (01:03:02):
Who who's at?

Speaker 2 (01:03:04):
Oh yeah, oh yeah, yeah yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:03:07):
How do you bench RC Davis?

Speaker 2 (01:03:10):
Like?

Speaker 1 (01:03:11):
I know he was having a bad game, but how
do you not play the Big East player of the
year down the stretch?

Speaker 2 (01:03:17):
Just curious. I'm not a huge college. I know Cooper
Flag that's the extent of and I know better than
to pick like even former biggiest teams. This isn't the eighties.
Chris Mollen doesn't play there anymore. But that's how I
picked my teams. I'm like Arkansas, Well they had uh
may Day and Oliver Miller. Maybe they're still good.

Speaker 1 (01:03:40):
Hey they're in the sweet sixteen.

Speaker 2 (01:03:41):
Man, I know, I know. Hey. Look, I appreciate you
guys though, thank you for having me on one. We'll
catch it.

Speaker 1 (01:03:47):
We'll catch it Thursday night. John a great stuff. It's
been the Philly paulsher Cities Sports Beak and well you
can find us on YouTube and of course all the
audio out that's Apple, Spotify, et Shatra for Michael Warren,
Sean Lockner, I'm Joe Staysa. I appreciate it, folks. Appreciate
you guys as always, and we'll catch over with you soon.

Speaker 4 (01:04:06):
