Speaker 1 (00:00):
Oh boy, Yeah, that the big dog. I don't know again. Everybody.
Welcome to another episode of the Philly Pauls Year City
Sports Beed. I mean, Joe Stays act along with by
the two co hosts. We have Michael Warren and we
got Sewan locked the fellows. How you doing today?

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Cracking? We're good suns?

Speaker 1 (00:18):
Fired up that word pre show because you want to
play that we got I need to pump you guys
up because here we go? Can we go through? Because
I mean, I know it was two days ago, but
Saquon Barkley the cover of Mad I'm starting to really
appreciate how big that is for that young man number
twenty six. It was the cover twenty six and Barkley

(00:40):
that that fourteen yard little flat pass turned into an
iconic moment, and it got bigger and bigger the more
he did. What are your thoughts on Saquon? He actually
actually insinuated it. Maybe after another big year like it
could be calling calling it to day, But I know
that's just stuff that we like to bounce around. Your
thoughts on Barkley making the cover.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
First of all, I guess we should be worried because
of the curse or something which whatever my thoughts on
that play though, real quick, Did you guys have any
issue with that play? There was something that happened in
that play that always sticks in the back of my
mind that bothered me.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
Uh. I did a story on it. I washed it
a hundred times. I don't think I have an issue
with the play except it was dangerous. I wouldn't have
done it.

Speaker 3 (01:23):
Not even that he got popped in the head at
the end. That's what I always remember. He took a
shot to the head. He got right up, It was fine, right.
I saw the pop to the back. I didn't see
the head. Yeah, he got a shot to the head
because his head stepped back, and I was like, uh,
please get up. Yeah. I spent a lot of twenty
twenty four saying please get up with Sequon because he

(01:47):
has had I do that with DeVante Smith all the
time too.

Speaker 4 (01:50):
He takes some shots for a skinny dude.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
When you have the shot him coming into the stadium.
I mean, his nickname is a slim Reaper, but man,
he is a twig.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
He's tiny, yeah, tiny, He's tough as nails.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
I remember de Seaun Jackson getting broken in half by
DeVante Robinson. You remember that Robinson. Yeah, I thought he
was done forever and I will always have respect for
to Sean Jacksonbury even putting a helmet on again. Yeah,
ridiculous now, But I think Sakuan was kind of I
don't think you try to do that. He was just
all hyped up in the moment he passed off one
guy's spot in any I don't know, I would not

(02:24):
have thought to jump over back.

Speaker 4 (02:25):
That ain't something you think about. That just happened now
that you don't.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
That's just I have an idea, Right, here's a good idea.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
What do you think they kind of make the defender?
I wrote to Destory kind of anonymous a little bit.
They always call him the defender. I did look him
up a two times. Jorian Jones, Yeah, what's wrong with
getting I mean there's no one, No one hit Bartman
when he blew that, when he blew the game for
the Cubs and ten years ago, like, why are we
why are we trying to not hang out Jorian Jones

(02:56):
forgetting beat by Sakuon Barkley.

Speaker 3 (02:58):
Well, there's the term poster arise, which came about like
twenty five thirty years No, no, no, I'm just saying there.
Initially they called it the other guy on the poster
because we all had those posters in our bedroom.

Speaker 4 (03:08):
Has grown up and there was actually there's actually a
great other guy.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
In the I like to derail the conversation. I'm sorry,
but but that's what he's become, which it doesn't it's
not a bad thing.

Speaker 4 (03:19):
You're just like the Billy Ricken.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
Billy Ripkin card. Do you know Michael Jordan wore three
different jersey numbers in his NBA career and most people
don't know them. Obviously twenty three and then he wore
forty five when he comes back. There was also a
game against the Orlando Magic he wore number twelve. His
jersey got stolen before the game, and there's a night
you remember that there's a nineteen ninety one Hoops basketball

(03:43):
card of Sam Vincent on the and he's going up
for a layup and Jordan's at the bottom of the
basketball card wearing a twelve jersey they've reissued, So that
was an error card. You can find a sad eric
card because Jordan was wearing a number twelve jersey. That
has nothing to do with what we're talking about, but
that's what I bring to the table, Guys.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
Joe, I can't tell my little story. When I was
growing up in LA. The Flowers were in La. One
night Clark comes out in number thirty six jersey skating around.
This is in LA. You know the Kings are wearing
their and Clark was sixteen. Okay, file that away till
twenty years later when I'm in college. My roommates down
the Wayne to walk in. I look up and over
there mantles Bobby. Now I'm into jersey and every day

(04:24):
a sixteen jersey freaking great, which is these guys don't
follow Hockey's Villanova. They're from Stanford, connecticutor some shit. Oh,
my sister used to work in the Forum in LA
and she stole was jersey one night. Yeah, I had
to wear thirty six, No six, like no, so pissed.
Twenty years ago that was jersey. Yeah, I saw it.

(04:45):
My sister stole it, so he wore thirty six. Is
that night anyway? Off?

Speaker 3 (04:50):
That happened with Brett Hull one year when the Blues
played in Philly. He had gotten his jersey stolen, and
I remember hearing about this on sports radio at the
times they found a guy in the the area that
had an authentic Brett Hull jersey that he was gonna wear,
but it didn't fit over the pads.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
So speaking of jerseys, I guess for me to add
into it as we're talking about Saquan, as we're talking
about jerseys, I can't help but wonder if Jeffrey is
angry that Matten twenty six is going to have that
Kelly Green.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
Jersey on Good Pool. I saw it, I was like,
I meant to say something left hand, that's a good
poll because it looks great. You know, it's.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
Phenomenal, and so you know it's gonna be but everyone
loves it.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
It is ever a winning jersey, I know, but all
this year they were twice no. But I mean when
that was the regular you know, those are teams that
we Those teams connected with the Philadelphia fan base sometimes
more than the champions.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
Did they they kind of did those defenses with randall.

Speaker 3 (05:51):
The RAND teams are like when they had the black
tape and ninth was at nineteen ninety they had the black.

Speaker 4 (05:57):
That was for their quarterback coach from Scoville.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Yeah, when he passed. Why do I know that black?
The black electrical tape.

Speaker 4 (06:05):
So it was awesome.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
So so Sakwan got his Ota is kind of from
what indications a lot of energy. They're still hungry. I
know it's June, Bryce hop has gone's talking about Bryce
Hoff that became I know, Seawana, you did a whole
thing on it. I heard it became a real thing
to me, I was like, he did nothing here? Why

(06:27):
was everyone still talking about it? Did I miss something?
Like I'm not necessarily a news guy like nine to eleven.
We've been like a third story reader for me. But
but but I mean, like it off became like a
real story and edwe's lee. They got rid of a
potential superstar. He did nothing here last year.

Speaker 4 (06:43):
Potential.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
Like ESPN like he when they signed him last year,
he was like this big time edge rusher coming over.
Played with Robert Salleh had ten sacks. I think he
had two and a half sacks last year and like
thirteen tackles and missed and a half of them scratching
the Super Bowl?

Speaker 2 (07:02):
Why?

Speaker 1 (07:02):
Why? What did I miss? There? Was he supposed to
have vic fan? You didn't like playing him? Why are
we surprised you got traded? I don't think. I don't
think we were surprised. I was more surprised where I
just felt like the media and as well as the people,
it was like, oh, how we saved the day. How
we saved the day, How we saved the day? Oh great, thinking, Oh,

(07:25):
how he noticed that he made a wrong decision and
he saved it. But it's like you're you're you're still
paying him, you're still paying him, and you sent him
to the forty nine ers.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
Yeah, it was a bad decision, but part of.

Speaker 4 (07:37):
It they took on.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
Well, yeah, you guys, not with how he did, Like
what was his alternative?

Speaker 2 (07:41):
If oh, hey, I'm fine with what how he did,
you've read my article. I'm more concerned of, you know,
as great as he is. And look, I'm not saying
that he's terrible by any means. He's made mistakes like
this before in the past. Now is this gonna be
the you know, if if the NFL is going to
start to change the way that the salary cap is,

(08:05):
you know, he's gonna have to start thinking a little
bit harder when it comes to this.

Speaker 1 (08:09):
You know, he had on like twelve major moves and
he missed on one. I mean, guys, you're gonna miss.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
He's missed on it.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
He's miss yes, I know, but he's really hit on
a lot of Sure, no, of course, you know, Jeff
was inexcuseable that he's really messed up a few But
don't other gms have like major hits on their resumes.

Speaker 3 (08:26):
And Ozzie Knewsome was considered a god. Right, you don't
think he blew a lot of draft picks. But in
nineteen ninety six he got Ogden. He didn't listen to
everyone that said take Lawrence Phillips. He took Ogden and
then later in the first round got ray Lewis.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
Yes, fantastic, Eddy Reid too, ye safe.

Speaker 3 (08:41):
I mean, wasn't he there when they took Kyle Boehler
in the first round? Also, I mean, come on, everyone
has their missing just sure.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
But I guess my thing is that's ten million dollars
that you're giving to the forty nine ers. That that
could have been ten million dollars to one of these
players that you had to let go because you needed
to see salary.

Speaker 1 (09:02):
He messed up.

Speaker 4 (09:03):
It turned out to be a huge deal.

Speaker 3 (09:05):
You had him for a year and he came here
with If you want to say the mistake was thinking
that he got ten sacks in a part time role. Okay,
my only issue with losing him was you just lost
two guys at the same position in Sweat and Graham.
So he should have had an opportunity for playing time.
But we don't know.

Speaker 4 (09:23):
Fangio might be like he's a dog.

Speaker 3 (09:24):
I don't wanty parts of him, but you.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
Know, dam right well, he's gonna have like ten cents
for the forty. He's gonna play.

Speaker 4 (09:32):
Javon Hargrave was okay for the Niners.

Speaker 1 (09:34):
I didn't.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
Yeah, sure, but I don't think it's gonna be a
big loss. Like I'm not gonna be like, ah, what
did I tell you? What did I tell you?

Speaker 1 (09:41):
Like?

Speaker 2 (09:41):
Look and again I.

Speaker 1 (09:44):
Think you're shouting down howe.

Speaker 4 (09:49):
Sean, what's going on?

Speaker 1 (09:51):
I just want to take a championship?

Speaker 3 (09:53):
You do you liking the Bryce Huff signing to the
Deshaun Watson move?

Speaker 2 (09:57):
Is that what I know? Guys are making me sound
like Joe to Julia.

Speaker 4 (10:05):
I don't worried about the Huff mark that one, mark
that one.

Speaker 1 (10:10):
I don't think we have to worry about Brice. I mean,
he comes back and he's like, you know, Deacon Jones
I don't think that's going to happen. But I think
Mike is right, like, we're worried because we did lose
a couple guys, But think about those guys too. Their
numbers got inflated because of what they did in the
Super Bowl, right sacks for sweat and then what's his name, Milton,
I think to two and a half, but he ended

(10:30):
up with eight. The other guy ended up with ten
and a half.

Speaker 4 (10:32):
That's not It happens every year when you win, everyone
seventeen and a half.

Speaker 3 (10:37):
And you know what Ray Didninger. I was watching him
on a podcast. I guess it was right around the
day of the tush push thing, and he had a
good point. He always does. My Lord, that's my Lord.

Speaker 4 (10:46):
He's savior.

Speaker 3 (10:47):
By the way, In case anyone's wondering, this is a
different position the Eagles have never been in before in
their history. Whereas you're going because even when they won
in twenty seventeen, they really didn't go into eighteen as
the hunted, not at all.

Speaker 4 (11:01):
The Eagles are going into this season as the number one,
seven and nine.

Speaker 1 (11:05):
When they went eighteen, there were seven and nine right.

Speaker 3 (11:08):
Right, So they didn't after the seventeen Super Bowl. They
didn't go into the season at all the team to
be they are now they are. Now you have an
awful schedule which is expected, big time bullseye, and you
have the bullseye and you're expected.

Speaker 4 (11:22):
I mean I said it before.

Speaker 3 (11:23):
I thought even before the draft, I was like, even
with the losses and before the draft, they could go
into they could go battle with what they have right
this second and be really good.

Speaker 1 (11:32):
Okay, then let me ask you this because I'm noticing this,
and it happens sometimes when a team blows up. Listen,
we've seen fatigue, Chiefs fatigue, I get that, Patriots fatigue.
Blah blah blah. I don't think anyone has the Eagles fatigue.
But because of what they did leading up and because
of their rosters, it became so epic. And the demolition
of the Skins and the chief are they almost like

(11:56):
are they getting too big? Are they? Are they bigger
than g you know the Beatles walking out?

Speaker 3 (12:02):
Are they?

Speaker 1 (12:03):
Are they?

Speaker 2 (12:05):
Not yet?

Speaker 4 (12:06):
But I would love be.

Speaker 3 (12:08):
I would love to be the team.

Speaker 2 (12:09):
I would love it too.

Speaker 1 (12:11):
So you don't think they're like, no, no, like all
the freaking Eagles are like the football it's it's.

Speaker 4 (12:18):
Not just that the Chiefs won so much.

Speaker 3 (12:21):
My homes has already been to five Super Bowls in
a relatively short career.

Speaker 4 (12:26):
That's a lot of Chiefs, A lot of Chiefs.

Speaker 1 (12:28):
That is a lot of Chiefs. Okay, I'm just I'm
just checking. I'm not sure because you have the envy thing,
and then you have the Eagles that are They're getting
a lot of attention I like, and they haven't screwed
it up yet, So I'm just wondering they haven't. You know,
a lot of teams.

Speaker 3 (12:44):
I do enjoy the attention. It's more stuff for me
to watch. I don't know about you. This is a
really probably unpopular theory, but I may have enjoyed. I
may have enjoyed the Monday after the Super Bowl more
than the actual game, when it was just it was great.

Speaker 4 (13:00):
Eagles water wall.

Speaker 1 (13:02):
I was just like, there was no pressure, I was
getting hit with canned beer cans. Was great. Highlights again,
was tremendous, tremendous.

Speaker 2 (13:11):
Sorry, I saw a video I guess what was it
from I think the exciting mics and one guy was
running through how they showed jail and walking by the
TV and looking up and he noticed that the whole
entire ESPN crew picked the Chiefs to win, and he

(13:33):
did the whole okay, where it just turned around to
see what that game became.

Speaker 1 (13:40):
The game became pretty massive. Yeah. Do you think they'd
be viewed a little differently if they won twenty seven
to twenty three instead of instead of being off yeah
or nothing in the third quarter? Uh huh, Yeah I
do too.

Speaker 4 (13:55):
Yeah, I mean, that was a no doubt about it.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
It was leave no doubt.

Speaker 3 (13:58):
I don't remember championship game in my lifetime for as
a Philly fan where the backups went in, Oh.

Speaker 1 (14:05):
Yeah, Anny Pickers taking the final snapped out.

Speaker 2 (14:10):
I was just I mean it was for me that
was like a boy like dream come true, where it's
like you you're My first Super Bowl that I ever
remember clearly was the Bears first the Patriots, and if
you remember that game, I had.

Speaker 1 (14:26):
Led through nothing by the way I take off of
a Walter Payton fumbled.

Speaker 3 (14:29):
Does anyone remember the cornerback that had a touchdown to
pick six. His name was Reggie Phillips and he was
filling in for an injured Leslie Fraser, which is also
an Eagles connection because he was later a coach with
the Eagles.

Speaker 1 (14:40):
That's right, he was very good.

Speaker 3 (14:42):
I watched a sick day home from school in the
one after the Giants Broncos. I had because remember when
you first got a VCR, you were like, oh my god, you.

Speaker 2 (14:52):
Oh absolutely, but yeah, I just watching those games where
it was like those blowouts. It was like, oh, man,
I hope someday the and it was like, oh, but
I just hope they win a Super Bowl, and then
when it happened where we blew them out, it was
just like ah. But going into that game, Joe, if
you remember, I was very confident. I knew. I never
had a feeling. I was like, they're going to win

(15:14):
this game. It just depended on how much. And if
I remember, I think it was double digits.

Speaker 1 (15:21):
You were confident. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (15:22):
I remember when the Broncos played the Seahawks in the
New York City game, well in the North Jersey game,
and it was a blowout, and I heard a little
bit younger generation like this game stunk. It was.

Speaker 4 (15:34):
I said, you know what, that's what I grew up on.
All those eighties.

Speaker 3 (15:37):
Super Bowls and people don't remember the biggest blowout was
the Niners Broncos fifty five to ten. I remember a
lot of people don't understand how pissed off Jimmy Johnson
was leon Let because they won fifty two to seventeen
over the Bills. If leon Lett had scored, it would
have been fifty nine, which would have been the Super
Bowl record.

Speaker 4 (15:54):
Jimmy Johnson was a little pissed about that. Extremes he
wanted the record for and.

Speaker 2 (15:59):
Who knocked the ball out of his hand with Don
Be Don Beebe come yeah, if someone actually send him
a letter.

Speaker 1 (16:07):
He talked about this in one of those things about
how proud the fan was that Don beeby chase down.

Speaker 4 (16:13):
Could we stop for that?

Speaker 3 (16:14):
Because I had this conversation with my cousins in the
over in the garage Ma Hall, which is my aunt's
and uncle's garage out back where it's kind of a
guy's club of spewing nonsense.

Speaker 2 (16:24):
Jo, it sounds like I might need to pick you
up and head up there.

Speaker 1 (16:28):
We might have to go there.

Speaker 4 (16:30):
You Oh no, no, yeah, you guys are welcome. So
when any announcers say, oh, give credit because he didn't
give up, or give these guys credit, they never gave up.
You get credit for.

Speaker 1 (16:40):
Not quitting, right, You're getting paid like I'm so sick
of Yeah, I totally agree, but it was it was
Leon led again. Remember Thanks Scamping Day game in the
snow where the kick got locked and he goes runs
down and Dolphins.

Speaker 4 (16:54):
And against the Dolphins, Stuyanovitch was the kicker.

Speaker 1 (16:57):
Kevin Williams said from Miami two touchdowns that game.

Speaker 3 (16:59):
Anyway, Oh my god, with the Miami stuff, we want
to talk about Joe.

Speaker 1 (17:06):
I want to real quick because I know you cover
the Bengals. And this came out again. It was two lates,
three in the morning and watching Connor David, but they
brought up Joe Burrow. It was kind of went back
to your article and I said, is Joe Burrow are
they wasting his career in Cincinnati? And I'm with you
that was your first line.

Speaker 5 (17:24):
I think yes, I think I think they are right
for the exactly for them for them to sniff the playoffs,
for what they did defensively, and Joe Burrow, look, he
did champion the cause to get Jamr Chase.

Speaker 1 (17:42):
I I don't know what they're waiting for on that.
And now they have Kendrick which his name, Hendrick Hendrickson
seventy and sex two years. What are we doing in Cincinnati?
Like they have no protection For Joe Burrow, you get
sackling nine times a game and he's still with what
he did almost put this team on his back when
nine to eight almost took him to the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (18:03):
He had almost five thousand yards passing forty down, nine interceptions,
mar Chase won the Triple Crown. I think they lost
six games in which they had scored thirty or more points,
Like this can't happen. So now, but we're getting okay,
you're getting back to the Bengals mismanagement.

Speaker 4 (18:20):
They are just so poor.

Speaker 3 (18:21):
So you have Hendrickson that you don't want to pay,
or Joe and Sean you got.

Speaker 4 (18:26):
You could have paid him a year.

Speaker 3 (18:28):
Ago when he had seventeen and a half sacks. Then
he did it again. Now he's on the last year
of his contract. He'll be thirty one years old in December.
So yeah, now maybe you don't want to but you
drafted Shamar Stewart in the first round, the edge rusher
out of Texas A and M, and then this Demetrius
Night they took in the second round. Both of those
guys aren't signed. Trey Hendrickson said he's willing to sit
out games. That's always you know, I'll believe.

Speaker 4 (18:49):
It when I see it.

Speaker 3 (18:50):
And the guys you brought in to replace them and
to infuse the defense with young talent still outside.

Speaker 1 (18:57):
How are they in the Super Bowl four years ago?

Speaker 3 (18:59):
I know it's kind of there. It's almost like they're
there in spite of themselves.

Speaker 1 (19:03):
They almost want it.

Speaker 3 (19:04):
Yeah, if i'm I mean, I don't know if you guys, Yeah,
we all watch NFL on Sundays and you catch postgame
clips and stuff. Joe Burrow looks like he wants someone
to shoot him after those games.

Speaker 1 (19:14):
Well, remember they left the game and he took the coach.
He went into the hallway because the old redor to
have a beating before they got to the locker room.
One of those games, because they all most of them
ended up like that, and of course the Eagles going
and beat him. That was kind of it was October
that we still won't show what the Eagles. Yeah, that
was a big game for the had that game, really
good game. But yeah, they have an elite quarterback. Like

(19:36):
forget about the MVP bullshit. I'm sorry, Lamar get him
out of that conversation. Please, Joe Burrow to me was
the quarterback last year, but I know.

Speaker 3 (19:44):
Allen had thirteen wins though.

Speaker 4 (19:46):
That's gonna be tough, and that's fine, but get Lamar
out of there. It's a regular season award, Joe.

Speaker 1 (19:54):
Well, you know it shouldn't be a regular season word.
It should it should be the whole way it should be.
Why are we stop?

Speaker 2 (20:00):
You think they should?

Speaker 1 (20:01):
Should it be the best?

Speaker 2 (20:02):
Should they change it where they're sayt yeah, and then
at quarterback best quarterback?

Speaker 1 (20:08):
Something like that.

Speaker 2 (20:09):
You know, it's an individual I agree, I think I
think it because it's always the MVP.

Speaker 1 (20:13):
Why don't we stop for seventeen games? Why do we stop?

Speaker 2 (20:16):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (20:16):
Because some teams don't advance? Well that's the problem.

Speaker 4 (20:19):
That's how good were you? It's like, how how great
were Dick Buckus and Gail Sayers?

Speaker 1 (20:24):
Right?

Speaker 3 (20:25):
All right? You're that great Bears.

Speaker 4 (20:27):
I don't even think made the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (20:29):
In their tenure.

Speaker 1 (20:30):
He was so great. He only played for six years,
but he got that knee injury.

Speaker 3 (20:34):
But yeah, I mean he played seven, but was really
five because the knee injury made the last two years
of Gail Sayers career.

Speaker 1 (20:40):
I watched Brian pickle. I think it was six total
seven seven.

Speaker 3 (20:46):
Yeah, but the last two he didn't do anything because
the knee injury, so he really played five years. This
will get me shot at Gail Sayers shouldn't be in
the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 2 (20:55):
My gosh, I hear the song from Brian's song.

Speaker 3 (20:58):
I never saw that to me. Wait, Look, I'm an
NFL junkie, but I don't like I'm not a football
movie I'm not a sports movie person.

Speaker 1 (21:11):
And Williams do you cry?

Speaker 2 (21:15):
Are you emotional?

Speaker 4 (21:16):
I don't cry every time I don't get my way.

Speaker 2 (21:19):
I'm emotional. I cried.

Speaker 4 (21:21):
I do I cry all the time.

Speaker 2 (21:23):
It sucks, man, I get emotional. I don't care well
Brian song, You're gonnat it.

Speaker 3 (21:29):
I did tear up recently catching the end of Karate Kid.
There's still I still get it. I still get fired up.

Speaker 1 (21:35):
I get fired up. That's pretty cool anyway. What's that?
He's Daniel l. Rossa is gonna fight and he comes out.

Speaker 3 (21:43):
I mean, the crane kick might be the dumbest move
in any martial arts in history. There's no You're not
gonna do that in a bar. Put him in a
body bag, Johnny.

Speaker 1 (21:55):
I love how the guys his team, his teammates who
beat up on Johnny the whole movie, and now they're like, well,
we got our ask, but we're going to root for
our guy, and like nothing happened. Like Daniel Larusi did
to kick the ship out of us.

Speaker 4 (22:08):
They didn't get off Johnny.

Speaker 1 (22:09):
Yeah, give a body bag.

Speaker 4 (22:11):
Out of commission.

Speaker 3 (22:17):
And then they revived it for like this Netflix thing.

Speaker 4 (22:20):
I guess which did well?

Speaker 3 (22:21):
Which did My ex girlfriend's son.

Speaker 1 (22:23):
Was like, you've got a nice dealership out there on sunset. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (22:28):
See. Meanwhile, you didn't even let me pitch. My my
thought that Sam, what do you got?

Speaker 1 (22:35):
What you got?

Speaker 4 (22:35):
He's still he still wants pitch.

Speaker 1 (22:37):
Yeah, I'll switch to baseball. In the Phillies Rock Rock
the Blue Jays last years, good Night Runs in the
first game, Alec Bohm with the six bounce throw, the
tremendous players. Waiting for your phone to blow up or something,
you were gonna cry, trying to leave you be.

Speaker 2 (22:55):
I mean, there's been a couple of times today I've
texted and you don't response. I'm just like, all right,
probably getting a massage or something.

Speaker 4 (23:02):
I don't wanna.

Speaker 2 (23:03):
I don't want to ruin anything.

Speaker 3 (23:05):
You know, Sean did put on Facebook today. I think
Joe's ghosting me, I did, How are you gonna do?
You know?

Speaker 1 (23:15):
Yeah, I got a lot of responsibilities here. No, but
he had off the hook last night. Alcah. He's not
like last year when you text me every RBI you had.
But he's playing ball. There's such a dick.

Speaker 2 (23:32):
He uh he went four for five last night.

Speaker 1 (23:35):
He's good. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (23:36):
Yeah, so and you know that he didn't look upset.
He's been playing good ball, and you know, the offense
keeps rolling and that play. It was funny how it
just went like I was waiting. It was like a skipper.

Speaker 1 (23:51):
You got to get there in time.

Speaker 2 (23:53):
But you gotta give him. You gotta give him credit
his ability to play third base. I mean when he
first oh and he did, you'd give it to him.
I mean, he's played an outstanding defensive third baseman. So yeah,
I mean, you know, it was funny. There was a
lot the people we heard we're t well.

Speaker 3 (24:17):
No.

Speaker 2 (24:17):
What I was getting at was, you know, to kind
of after the Brewers series, some of the players came
out and said, well, we don't have a big guy here,
Harper's out of the lineup, and a lot of people
were like, oh, I said, really that important you go
to Toronto. I think it was very important at the
time before we get out of Dodge. When we got
out of.

Speaker 4 (24:37):
Dodge, it changes the whole lineup.

Speaker 3 (24:39):
But when you're losing, when you're losing seventeen to seven,
and five of those were junk runs in the ninth, right,
ain't one guy right?

Speaker 2 (24:48):
You know for sure exactly. But I mean he comes
back in the lineup last night immediately gets a home run.
What did they score? No, they eleven batters up to
the play in the first inning and they scored.

Speaker 3 (25:01):
It's a nice Yeah, it was a great and that
lets Sanchez kind of be like, all right, I can
just go throw now.

Speaker 2 (25:07):
Yeah. Yeah, And I mean, I mean he's been underrated
this year. There's been a lot of talk from the
people out there, what do you do with the bullpen?
Where do you go?

Speaker 1 (25:18):
You have.

Speaker 2 (25:20):
You, you have Sanchez? Do you put him into the bullpen?
Or do you mix things up and put I got
him drawing a blank helped me out guys the other
thank you. Yeah, I wanted to say, I was about
to say Sanchez.

Speaker 3 (25:37):
Well, I think it depends a lot of us, and
we'll bring it back to tonight. I think a lot
comes on. What if Abel goes out there and chucks
it again.

Speaker 1 (25:45):
I feel bad for Paul Skinners. I think last night
you had another and one run game and.

Speaker 2 (25:49):
Like like, well, Spencer Schreider. Strider had a horrible I
mean he hasn't been pitching well either. I mean last
night he gave up several months.

Speaker 3 (25:58):
I know it doesn't matter right now because we've gone
over this, but the Braves are in fourth place right now.

Speaker 1 (26:03):
I love it, and they brought back.

Speaker 2 (26:07):
Their old former manager. Now is the third base coach.

Speaker 1 (26:10):
You know, what does matter? Film with Switch gears a
little bit. What do you think of the guy who
took over the night show at nine? His name is Bill.
He's kind of with your people. Tell us about Bill.
He was with Mike, he's now kind of branched off.
Let's talk a little bit about nine five.

Speaker 2 (26:26):
Yeah, So the news that just came out, what was
it yesterday? Bill Colarulo is moving up to the afternoon shift.
It's going to be called Unfiltered with Ricky Battellica.

Speaker 1 (26:40):
You're a you're a big fan of him.

Speaker 2 (26:44):
I'm a huge fan of Bill. I thought Bill so
obviously a couple of months ago Mike came back, was
it in August?

Speaker 1 (26:52):
I think?

Speaker 2 (26:53):
And uh yeah, so Bill was his little sidekick and
then Ray done his producer it. They were great together.
I thought I would listen to Bill on the weekends and.

Speaker 1 (27:06):
Break up a good team to then have the parts
of the whole, you know what I mean? Like that?

Speaker 4 (27:10):
She said, I I.

Speaker 1 (27:13):
Don't know.

Speaker 2 (27:14):
It's it's interesting to me where again to take I'm
not taking anything away from Bill because obviously what I'm doing.

Speaker 1 (27:21):
With you guys, you're ripping the pre show.

Speaker 2 (27:25):
Let's go out here. You're full of ship, dude, It's
not ripping them at all. I think it's amazing how
he was a lawyer and decided to get out and
betted on himself, and two years later he.

Speaker 4 (27:41):
Went to Mike Floria.

Speaker 3 (27:42):
He went to Mike Florio.

Speaker 1 (27:43):
Rat I mean, you know, look, we got an edge
to fry with Mike Florial up here, enere we got
with Mike Florio up here.

Speaker 4 (27:51):
Oh. I like Floria.

Speaker 3 (27:52):
I've actually been talking to him a little bit over
the last few years. But yeah, he was he started
p F t while he was an attorney, and once
in a while he would make comments on a post
like I'll get to it was if it was urgent.

Speaker 4 (28:04):
I'll get to this.

Speaker 3 (28:04):
When I get back from the law firm, like I
found I found PFT back in like six when he
was just getting going.

Speaker 4 (28:12):
That was his side hustle.

Speaker 1 (28:13):
How does he How did he get Phil Simmson in
the mix?

Speaker 3 (28:18):
Well, so he started his first major ad I think
was Adam archer Lett his book like Freak of Training,
and then he just kept growing it until somebody like NBC.
All of a sudden, these major media networks and I
know this as my history of a twenty five years
being a publicist, these major networks started to notice that

(28:38):
because blogs used to get laughed at.

Speaker 4 (28:40):
It was like, oh, it's some blog, or it's well,
guess what, somebody.

Speaker 3 (28:43):
A lot of people are reading those blogs, and the
major media networks had to jump on it. And NBC
was very wise to identify PFT and absorb him. And
I don't know what the deal was, but Florio still
maintains editor with Chris sim I'm a huge I'm a
huge Florio fan, Yeah.

Speaker 1 (29:04):
Because he says things that people don't like it's fine,
but button button's a little annoying.

Speaker 2 (29:08):
But hey, it was cool. I used to do that back,
I would say, like twenty twelve. A matter of fact,
I pulled out a polo the other day and did
it for ships and giggles, and I was like, I
still got it, but it could be.

Speaker 1 (29:20):
A little different, like that's okay, but like he wears
like the button ups like it's almost forced sometimes, Like
I mean, I have Micah.

Speaker 2 (29:28):
I have been known to send pictures of Chris Sims
dressed his attire to Joe and.

Speaker 1 (29:34):
Be like, we evaluate his artorial this is before you came.

Speaker 2 (29:39):
You know, I would have Joan Rivers, you know, moments.

Speaker 3 (29:43):
Do But you know, you're like, yeah, I mean, I'm
just it's fine. You can say whatever you want, free country,
but I mean, I'm just letting you. I just wanted
to give you a reminder that you're talking about.

Speaker 1 (29:56):
So then I just cut to you didn't have any
shot because it doesn't seem like they had. Kevin Kakaido
in an article a few months ago, which is good,
pretty extensive, exhaustive about everyone who's gone through the process
of Beasley. They're just throwing stuff at the wall and
trying to trying to compete with WIP, who's just kind
of rolling folks, What are your thoughts on listening to

(30:16):
IP versus ninety.

Speaker 2 (30:19):
So. I I don't know if it's because I'm rooting
for the little guy. I don't The only time I
listened to w IP is on the weekends rest exclusively. Now, No,
not many, not at all. I mean I'll listen to
the at night time sometimes I gosh, when I did

(30:40):
not like the best show ever. So there was sometimes
that I would listen to the afternoon show with WIP,
But in most cases I was listening to podcasts or whatever.
I really really like the lineups at the Fanatic I
always have. I like King Kaid and Saltunas you know,

(31:03):
I'm a huge fan of Mike. I thought Mike and
Bill was probably the best duo since Steve, Him and Steve.

Speaker 1 (31:13):
I just a lot of time, very long. Let me
ask you, because of what? Because of how Beesley attacks
their game plan and attacks like their positioning, what they're
doing with shows from down in Naples, Florida, some of
your favorites go by the way shot they get mixed
and matches. It seems like there's a whole lot of
rhyme or region. Every three months, you're pulling the trigger.

(31:33):
How does that make you feel about them as a
station serving you as a listener.

Speaker 3 (31:39):
I've never been. I used to listen to WS ninety
seven and five usually when I knew you were on
or Jason was on Ashworth. Other than that, I didn't
really I was. I've just always been a w IP person.
Now WP has kind of turned into I don't know.
I still have like I love Ike Grease, but that

(32:00):
afternoon show, Jack Fritz is the young one coming up
that I think has is gonna be really good.

Speaker 2 (32:05):
I like him a lot.

Speaker 3 (32:06):
I like him too, but the afternoon show has really
turned into the inmates running the asylum, where it's the
same callers. They branded the callers, and it's the same
people calling up, and it almost makes you feel like
they have a club and you're not in the club.
I don't feel like I'm in the club that wants
to hear rios or you know, it was Black Gritty

(32:26):
or somebody calling up and they're screaming, and now it's Dallas.
Now I get they're not catering to me personally my demographic. Sure,
me personally. No, I don't need Dallas Week to be
like call us and tell us about that cowboy moment
you hated. I don't need Eagles chance on the radio.
I was excited again. The Monday after the Super Bowl.
I had to run out to the store and I
was like, this is awesome. I'm gonna turn on WP's

(32:47):
it's gonna be great. Well, they went to the evening
show that was like a Chicky and Pete Monday Night
remote whatever.

Speaker 4 (32:53):
And they started it with like the whole Chicky and
Pete singing Fly Eagles Fly. I don't care, right, I
don't want to hear stuff right.

Speaker 2 (33:01):
And that's where, like like with Kincaid, I liked that
they don't have as many callers as WIP does on
their morning show. Now Mike obviously he has more callers.
And for a while their telephones were like they're board
was fried so they couldn't get any calls, and people
thought it was a hoax that that was the way

(33:22):
that they were trying to go where there was no
calls anymore, and Mike emphasized like, no, no, it's really true.
We need a new board.

Speaker 3 (33:28):
They got it, and that does not look good.

Speaker 4 (33:32):
No, we don't have a technical ability exactly right.

Speaker 2 (33:35):
So it's just like, so again, I asked myself, do
we really need two sports stations here in Philadelphia? Clearly
if we say no, then I'm screwed because the one
that I love would leave. I just I don't understand
the direction that they're going. And I've made, you know, ideas,

(33:57):
I've pitched ideas to you, and.

Speaker 1 (33:59):
My the direction is this. I mean, look, surecause he
was bankrupt and they're still hanging in there while Beasley
was turning to profit.

Speaker 2 (34:09):
So they're pretty much is what you're telling me, is
they're okay being like the step brother.

Speaker 1 (34:15):
They don't care about the ring. I care about the bottom.

Speaker 2 (34:17):
Now.

Speaker 3 (34:17):
I don't know how you guys feel about this, but
if I'm Beasley and I'm not, I'm the second tier here.

Speaker 4 (34:23):
I don't know that I'm renewing.

Speaker 3 (34:26):
Flyers and Sixers contracts. I don't think to me, if
I want sports, this is what I didn't like when
I lived up in North Jersey by Manhattan, and they
supported two stations.

Speaker 4 (34:36):
Obviously, but there's nine teams on any given night, somebody's playing.

Speaker 3 (34:40):
I just want sports talk and I have to listen
to the Islanders and the Rangers on the radio.

Speaker 1 (34:44):
That's a good point. There are times where I don't
want to hear that because there are Flyers are nineteen
games out and yeah we're here, the Eagles something.

Speaker 4 (34:51):
And pre and postgame?

Speaker 1 (34:53):
What's that? Sure? En?

Speaker 4 (34:54):
Pre and postgame? I want to hear sports talk.

Speaker 3 (34:57):
The game's over.

Speaker 4 (34:57):
What's Flyers fourth period? I don't even know if that's
what it's called, but that's what they would call it.

Speaker 1 (35:03):
And then you have to hear about injuries from some
guys that are you know, he's right, that's awful. That's awful.
Even sometimes when the Philip well, they've been good for
a long time, but I was there when they were
bad and we had to hear that shit on it.

Speaker 3 (35:15):
So even when they're good, sometimes I don't feel like
listening to the game, but I just want to go
out to the store and hear somebody talk about sports whatever.

Speaker 1 (35:23):
For ten minutes. Exactly.

Speaker 3 (35:25):
You don't want to do that because baseball, a lot
of these sports, it's not like football, where it's one
play every forty seconds. I mean, I don't know how
a hockey broadcaster does play by play.

Speaker 4 (35:34):
On the radio. I mean, it's a nightmare.

Speaker 3 (35:37):
It's got to you know, you're trying to describe what's
happening when it's just a big.

Speaker 4 (35:41):
Mess on the ice of yeah.

Speaker 2 (35:44):
That, Joe, let me ask you this, what so what
why does WYP do it so much better than ninety
seven to five for the fanatic because if you remember
for a little bit, Mike had the number one show, Yeah.

Speaker 1 (36:01):
Ebbs and floated. It's kind of the people. I think
it's the people. I think they like their tandem. I
think they paired up and they landed some good parents.
You know, it comes down it doesn't always come down
to just talent, like you can't always equate to like
teams that we watched and analyze, I think they have
good pairings that work. You know, you'll know when two
people have a chemistry and they could bring people in.

(36:21):
And John Richie's the former player, but he's kind of mellow,
but he's smart at ship was smart off the charts.
They have they have a good thing going like Greece
was the player kind of settled into his own remember
a little rough at the beginning. Hugh Douglas, a former player,
I watched you really take some lumps when he said,
but that was self inflicted when he got serious about

(36:44):
his job and everything and kind of let you let
you in, let you into some of the things that
other teams did did when he started revealing some ship
it worked. And Brian Westbrook was at ninety seventy five,
but he wasn't. He was in Maryland doing like in
his basement, doing a thing with us. You it sounded
like he was with us, But they never really invested

(37:04):
too much into having a player in each of those
slots and then not a real broadcaster to kind of entertain,
kind of be the quarterback and everything. And I think
some of their parents they were and they did and
their numbers reflect that.

Speaker 3 (37:18):
And just because you're an ex player, a lot of
people don't get this. But it's a different job, different job,
and it's one of the reasons I have really come
to love like he worked at it those original shows
with him and Howard, he was raw. I have a
lot of respect for that.

Speaker 2 (37:36):
It's funny too, because I remember Comcast sports Net did
a piece where former NFL players went to I think
it was Jersey at the NFL and where they took
a class for media, and Ike was one of them
and was like he was was interviewed about it, and
it was like, damn, he's he's pretty good and sure enough,

(37:59):
Well you.

Speaker 1 (37:59):
Have to it's again, you have to work at it.
Like I'm telling you, there was a guy and if
it might even mentioned his name, who did put no
effort into it. He would show up in his awesome suits.
His wife laid out his suits, but he just thought
he could show off, and it reflected on the air
like it really pissed off some of the actual broadcasters
because they knew the score of the Phillies game that day.
He was like regurgitating two days ago. He was embarrassing,

(38:22):
and he had some other issues. When he left and
he came back, he kind of got his head straight
and work like anything, you gotta work at It's a
new job's new profession right now, it's football. Now you
got a new job. You're not as good as his
intern over there, no matter if you're like six times
his size. You have to work at it.

Speaker 3 (38:40):
Right now. Is it a great base and foundation that
you played, Yes, great starting point, it's right, but you
still have to be able to speak property properly.

Speaker 4 (38:51):
As I missed.

Speaker 3 (38:52):
Right, it's a different job and there's guys on ESPN.
You see NFL Network, Like in the Morning Show, they
try and rotate guys in. I'm sure that's all just
practice for a lot of those guys. They're seeing if
this works, does it work?

Speaker 1 (39:07):
But of them are pretty I mean it is.

Speaker 4 (39:09):
Some of them are really good, really good.

Speaker 1 (39:11):
They put the effort into it.

Speaker 4 (39:12):
But then you look at and if you guys, I'll
open up the floor to you guys.

Speaker 3 (39:16):
Someone explained to me how Kendrick Perkins is on ESPN.
He can't speak at all. No one gives a rats
ass about his playing career. Fine, you played in the NBA. Great,
it's every time.

Speaker 2 (39:28):
Oh god, Because he said, because he's exactly do you
like him? Not really?

Speaker 3 (39:35):
I mean he just.

Speaker 1 (39:36):
Again when you said, exactly, what do you mean exactly? What?

Speaker 2 (39:40):
Well? I think number one, because there's some people that
just can't stand him, and they, you know, still tune
in to hear what else he's got to say. But
a couple of times said he's come out and said
things about players in the NBA that you know who
he is.

Speaker 6 (39:57):
Yeah, so he doesn't do anything for me, to be
honest with that, I just can't I get you're always
going to have those some guys that do it really
really well and some guys where you're going to be like,
why are you doing this?

Speaker 1 (40:10):
Some people, Yeah, I don't. I don't necessarily he doesn't
do anything for me either way. People on that show,
like there's some former executive rid I think it's great.

Speaker 3 (40:20):
I'm a I'm a Riddick fan.

Speaker 1 (40:22):
Alright, knows the stuff. He knows what he's doing, and
I think it's his opinion. Dan g like he knows
what he's doing. Kimberly Martin like she seems to get
the right information.

Speaker 3 (40:33):
Jansky. I'm a fan of I like Dan.

Speaker 1 (40:37):
I don't running out of balance by five yards and the.

Speaker 3 (40:39):
That's what I'm always gonna Sorry, Dan, That's what I.

Speaker 1 (40:43):
Like once a week because it's it just brings, because
the shows phase, and because she's kind of he's a
little back.

Speaker 2 (40:49):
I really, I really really enjoy uh Devin Kaney uh
when she's on. I don't catch her in the morning
on w I p uh. I listened to her on
Saturday morning. She's almost ruby. It's really really good.

Speaker 3 (41:05):
This Blue Sky buddy, I know, I know, man, you
got to get her on.

Speaker 1 (41:09):
Gotta get her on well.

Speaker 4 (41:11):
Let's not be too aggressive. She'd be like, yo, dude, blocked.

Speaker 2 (41:15):
We did say anything negative.

Speaker 3 (41:18):
But if I'm like, hey, hey, hey, yeah, you.

Speaker 1 (41:21):
Know someone did you notice the show on a team
and they were like rocketing along and meteoricalarage and blah
blah blah Mike and Mike. And then one day one
person decided to go to get up and the other
never really heard from again, I.

Speaker 2 (41:35):
Guess apparently, and they're not well anymore.

Speaker 3 (41:38):
They were yeah something, there was a riff there. And
if you guys remember there was a while of staysack,
you definitely do. Early on ninety seven five didn't have
a morning show. They broadcast the National yesp men.

Speaker 2 (41:51):
I used to love Mike in the morning.

Speaker 4 (41:53):
I didn't. Here's why because I used to.

Speaker 3 (41:55):
I used to commute from North Jersey to Long Island
for a crappy job, which made it even crappier.

Speaker 4 (42:00):
Rough bro, yeah, it's terrible, brutal.

Speaker 3 (42:02):
Yeah, And I would listen to Mike, but I felt
like they'd come back from commercial and it was like, oh,
dolphins and charges last night.

Speaker 4 (42:09):
Yeah, okay, well when we come back, I'm.

Speaker 1 (42:11):
Like, you just came back from the teased the break
after they tease that.

Speaker 2 (42:15):
Oh my lord, jet jets chats Jets. You know I'm
a Chests fan, right, Jets Jets. Yeah, yeah, Well I
helped him. He came into Raging Bone the one time
with his family, which was Greenberg.

Speaker 1 (42:29):
Yeah. I like him. I think he's good on the
I like him. It was funny he bought us like,
what's you, Mike. The other people liked him as a person.

Speaker 2 (42:40):
He was.

Speaker 1 (42:41):
I went up to him first day. I has to
get an interview. They lost. They blew like a fifteen
point lead with like four seconds life something ridiculous and
always has that resting bitch face and I'm like twenty
one right here. He was the nicest guy you will
ever meet.

Speaker 2 (42:56):
If you remember, there was rumors that he was in
Line or the WYP show before the camera.

Speaker 1 (43:02):
Yeah, yes, I did hear that. So last time I checked,
he was doing like color for like Texas.

Speaker 3 (43:08):
A and M and his son is doing stuff.

Speaker 1 (43:10):
Now son's doing stuff. Well, his son then kind of
lasted on and was doing some ESPN stuff, right and
now I haven't heard from him since. I don't know
what they're doing. But that was that was a you know,
that was a crash and burn, but and they were not.
He was not happy with Mike Greenberg because Greenberg knew
about it and didn't tell him or something, you know,
something along those lines.

Speaker 4 (43:31):
Golic would have been a star if he had latched.

Speaker 1 (43:33):
On it like a w I P right, he would
have been a total star.

Speaker 2 (43:36):
Yeah, all right.

Speaker 1 (43:37):
NHL Finals tonight started to beginning tonight. Connor McDavid against
the Florida A show. I'm gonna go to you, who
do you like in this series?

Speaker 2 (43:46):
I'm going oilers in seven oilers.

Speaker 1 (43:49):
And seven they start in Edmonton, so that would be
they would win the Cup in Edmonton. What do you got, Michael?

Speaker 4 (43:56):
Do you want me to just make something up?

Speaker 3 (43:58):
I mean, that's what we're doing here right. I'm rooting
for McDavid. I'm rooting for McDavid. I don't. I did not.
I tried to get into both conference finals series. It
was really tough to watch the same for basketball. I
have the same hopes for the NBA Finals that I'll
have for the Cup. I want to get into The
Cup starts tonight, that's tonight, all right. I want to

(44:18):
get into it, and if I.

Speaker 4 (44:20):
Can get into Game one, because honestly, you.

Speaker 3 (44:22):
Really that is the cool thing about playoffs, not that
aren't football. When you have these series, if you can
start to get into it and you see some of
the storylines, you can totally get into a series when
your team isn't even remotely relevant totally, and then all
of a sudden, you're looking forward to the next couple
of games.

Speaker 4 (44:39):
So I'm gonna try.

Speaker 3 (44:40):
I'm going to but I am rooting for McDavid after
what happened to them last year. They were down three
to zero, tied at three to three and then lost.
That should be illegal.

Speaker 1 (44:50):
Well, they Florida's conct the Celtics weren't. They'll cruise along
and right, you know, seven wins versus a lock, and
it'll disappear. I'm not talking about this year Celtics. The
Celtics leading up to their championship, and they did that.
They disappeared in their three games and they finally got
it together for excuse me, for Game seven they won
two to one. I think they're that kind of excuse me,
they're that kind of team. They can turn that switch,

(45:10):
but you don't want to take it down to the wire.
But I think they are the better team. Is their
third straight trip to the Stanley Cup Finals. Not easy
thing to do. Tampa Bay did it. They want a
cup out of the two cups out of it with Vassilevski.
But Brovski's now the Vassilevski of you know, today's goaltending
former flyer. They have him. They have a star in
Keith Kachuk. I'm sorry, Keith sun Kachuk. What's his name,

(45:32):
Matthew Kachuk. And I think their coaches have stud and
I think their team is They're not the Devils, but
they have kind of that team that just when they
turn it on. They have a lot of very good
players that can have some goal scoring ability for check
they make the right play every time. And you have
Edmonton to kind of they have the drys Idol and
the Econnor McDavid. I mean, any team will take those

(45:55):
two superstars, but they don't always show up necessarily m
david starting to play, starting to score. But those two
guys should be they should be, you know, ringing it home.
But there's a chance an opportunity. McDavid was the con
Smeis winner last year. MVP. It rarely happens with a
member of the losing team wins. That award happened twice
for the Flyers next all residets mostly number twenty seven.

(46:17):
But they have a chance to have a chance right
now in the seven game series starttrash. I still like Florida,
but let's talk about basketball because the big story is
Tom Thibodeau getting whack. They didn't take time to think
about it. This wasn't one let's reflect a couple of
boom they lose, he's out. What are you thinking about
that might go?

Speaker 3 (46:33):
He was probably fired two months ago, and somebody's got
to take the blame. I don't It was certainly not
a perfect roster. I love Brunson, Cat just wasn't doing
it for me. He looks like he runs on his heels.
He looks slow, and he's supposed to be one of

(46:56):
the premier big guys in the league.

Speaker 2 (46:57):
Would you trade him straight up for a beat?

Speaker 4 (47:00):
Yes, that's not a talent thing.

Speaker 3 (47:05):
That's a I don't know what Embiad's ever going to
be again due to injuries.

Speaker 1 (47:09):
I agree with you that question. What are we looking
at it next year? A little stick to this, but
I can see what look five years they became a
relevant team. But looking forward, to next year. From the
way the game ended on Sunday or whatever it was,
I would say, yeah they were. That Game one really
hurt them. Not only that, they lost Game two at

(47:31):
home too after the whole shot.

Speaker 4 (47:33):
So they were never to me, I thought that was
game one.

Speaker 1 (47:38):
The game one was this, but they also lost Game
two at them they.

Speaker 4 (47:40):
Were down to right, but the Game one is the
one that hurts. And I remember watching that game in
the garage BA Hall over.

Speaker 3 (47:45):
The weekend and all I kept thinking was, man, game
one really stings.

Speaker 4 (47:50):
Right now, then that's.

Speaker 1 (47:51):
Things that seems so bad. Losing that game. They still
I think could have recovered in these Game two and Okay,
I never thought they were really in this years. I
don't think it's a Thibodeaux problem.

Speaker 3 (48:03):
They somebody had to take the fall Joe, right.

Speaker 1 (48:05):
That's what I'm saying. So what do you do going forward?
Is it a construction thing? Like they gave up five
number ones for McHale Bridges. You know, Bronson's obviously star,
but what are they missing in New York Because they
finally got kind of close and it's been since what
seventy three? Should say, didn't they really want anything?

Speaker 3 (48:24):
Well?

Speaker 1 (48:24):
You go back to Willis Reid, Right, That's what I'm
talking about. The same with Indiana. I mean they haven't
want anything.

Speaker 3 (48:29):
So no, but they used to own the Sixers for
years until two thousand and one. Uh.

Speaker 4 (48:36):
The next defense, I think all the.

Speaker 3 (48:37):
Credit goes to Bridges and he deserves it, his incredible defender,
but some of their transition defense. I was like, is
anybody getting back.

Speaker 1 (48:44):
Or are we just terrible? Terrible?

Speaker 2 (48:46):
So the rumors out there that Jay Wright wants nothing
to do with the Knicks.

Speaker 1 (48:51):
I wouldn't think he wants anything to do with anybody
the NBA.

Speaker 3 (48:54):
He doesn't want anything to do with He doesn't want
anything to do with college. He smelled the NIO I'm
in a mile away and was like.

Speaker 2 (49:00):
How much money do you think it would take for
him to change his mind?

Speaker 3 (49:03):
He can.

Speaker 1 (49:03):
I don't think he can be happy. It doesn't matter.
It's not gonna change, Like, okay, backup thirty billion dollars.
I don't think that's gonna do anything to make a
couple of news cycles for him. I think he's gonna
change the tailor he uses in Newtown Square or where
he lives off Aeron him leaving Villanova when he had opportunities,

(49:23):
would just mean, Okay, I'm gonna take a job. We're
on a fire You leave that that whole thing that
was his wonderland. So we were talking about earlier when
you leave like Bill who was part time. Now he's
got a gun and now he's on the firing line.
Now he's got a full time job at the real show.
Talk to me in like, you know, two years when
he's looking for a job, and I don't.

Speaker 3 (49:44):
Think it's worth it for an NBA team to go
get Jay Wright. He's never it's a different ballgame. Everybody
left Nova because college was becoming that different ballgame. It
wasn't the way that he did things the NBA. You're
you're probably the lowest plate, lowest paid player on the team.
Right these guys are making three times what you're making,
and your NBA.

Speaker 2 (50:05):
Is getting young though mi NBA is getting young.

Speaker 3 (50:07):
Okay, fine, the point's the same that you're If Lebron
wants a coaching change, it's happening. Sure, the players run
the show in the NBA and I and Jay Wright's
never proven anything at the NBA level, So what are
you gonna do? Give him fifteen million? Dollars a year
to come do something he's never done. It's a recipe
for disaster.

Speaker 1 (50:26):
And would it make a difference with the same players.
I know he had some magic and noble, but that's different.
You're playing against college kids. These guys are playing against
like you know, these guys playing against NBA players with
the roster, the good roster, but I think they're a
little short. And it wasn't because they gave away Dante DiVincenzo,
so I think they I think it's a roster problem
more than Thibodeau problem or is it both My missing something?

Speaker 3 (50:48):
I think the NBA is mostly roster.

Speaker 4 (50:50):
I mean agreed, if you think about it, If you
bring in sa.

Speaker 3 (50:54):
Kuon Barkley, he's won eleventh of your offense, which is
out there roughly half the time. An NBA player is
twenty percent of your offense and defense every time they're
out there. They have so much impact on those games.
And I'm not saying coaching is not important, but I mean,
I remember a friend of mine had met Eric Spolstra

(51:18):
after the Heat had won a couple and he was like, hey,
you know, congratulations on winning or whatever, and he goes
Spolster just kind of looked at me and goes, Sometimes
you get lucky, like acknowledge, And I think Spolster is
an excellent coach, but he was kind.

Speaker 4 (51:30):
Of saying, I got Lebron, Dwayne Wade.

Speaker 3 (51:34):
And Chris Bosh off the team. Good start, you know
it was? Is Tyron Leu a great coach? No, and
a great coach?

Speaker 4 (51:47):
I don't care.

Speaker 3 (51:48):
Put vincel right, he Vince Lombardi. Have him coach the
Jets next year and tell many how many wins they have.

Speaker 2 (51:55):
I totally forgot it.

Speaker 1 (51:56):
Look at the MVP, look at that team who has
never won anything? Sga is he's the most undynamic superstar,
like like, he's good, he's solid, and he's clean. He
hits mid rain jumpers, and he's what's what's his name
called a free throw merchant? A free throw merchant.

Speaker 4 (52:11):
I didn't know how good he was until the playoffs this.

Speaker 1 (52:13):
Year, but he's good. Is he the guy though? Is
he the guy that? Oh my god, he's the next Curry,
the next one.

Speaker 2 (52:20):
See here we go, we're going down that rabbit hole. Well,
the space of the NBA.

Speaker 1 (52:25):
Why do we need it? Why do we need it? Joe?
I don't say we need it, But forgetting out the face?
Is he like gonna be the guy to carry Oklahoma
City to a championship?

Speaker 2 (52:35):
Probably?

Speaker 1 (52:36):
I mean, do you see, like, do you think there's
there's room in anyone's life to watch Anthony Edwards do
that at some point from Minnesota? I don't like what
I've seen out of him, dynamic superstar.

Speaker 3 (52:49):
And that's I'm fine with that. I mean, yeah, that's fine.
I mean Lebron's and Jordan's don't come along very often.

Speaker 1 (52:57):
Okay, that's fine, all right, good, No, I don't Yeah,
I mean I I'd like to have every year to
have somebody different winning the title unless it's my team. Oh,
let's do this, Patiers, Oklahoma, you on the spot. What
do you got?

Speaker 2 (53:14):
I think it's going to be the Pacers in five.

Speaker 4 (53:17):
Wow, that's a hot take, Sean.

Speaker 2 (53:22):
Oh wait, I'm sorry, Wait a minute, Oh my god,
I'm sorry. I think the thunder.

Speaker 4 (53:29):
We're still talking about, Jesus, we're still talking about.

Speaker 2 (53:37):
Clearly I need a new face.

Speaker 3 (53:39):
Actually, I do like I actually like to take because
you know what, now, I swear to God, Sean, if
I swear to God, if the Pacers went it in five,
you are not going back and coming on this freaking.

Speaker 4 (53:49):
Show and being like, remember I called it, I would
do I would that, I would do.

Speaker 2 (53:57):
What you like?

Speaker 1 (53:57):
What do you like up top there, Michael?

Speaker 3 (54:01):
I'm kind of rooting for Oklahoma City. Maybe it's maybe
maybe it's because they were the Sonics and I used
to be a huge Sonics fan, like and god, I
think the Thunder win it. But I am very excited
to see I don't know, like.

Speaker 1 (54:22):
The Pacers and six right Pacers and six?

Speaker 4 (54:24):
Is that what you're taking?

Speaker 1 (54:25):
I'm not even doubting it?

Speaker 2 (54:26):
Yes, really? Wow, wow, see I see I jacked it up.
I thought, without a doubt that Thunder are just gonna
run away with it.

Speaker 1 (54:35):
I can't do five though, because he's sure. You watch
team like, oh my god, they won by forty two,
and next thing you know, the other team wins by
like thirty eighth. The next game is yeah, so fun
to watch.

Speaker 3 (54:45):
So stay zacts saying put take a second mortgage on
your home. Yes for the Pacers and six. That's brought
to you by FanDuel N DraftKings and GM Grant.

Speaker 2 (54:54):
It's so funny. He's gonna bet on the Pacers, but
he won't bet on this show. Oh that's crazy. Hey,
can I give you some on this day?

Speaker 1 (55:05):
Because you know we give us this day?

Speaker 4 (55:09):
All right?

Speaker 2 (55:09):
So speaking of the NBA in nineteen forty seven, all right,
Sunny Herzberger, on this day. In June fourth, the Philadelphia
Warriors before they became the Golden State Warriors won the
NBA's first ever championship, led by rookie Joe Folkes. What

(55:33):
records did he hold for a decade?

Speaker 3 (55:36):
First got to win an NBA championship.

Speaker 2 (55:38):
Yes, I think its single season scoring record of sixty
three points. He averaged sixty three point He had in
a single game sixty three points. And he held that.

Speaker 4 (55:52):
Because back then I would believe it.

Speaker 1 (55:54):
Yeah, right, willet Willie Burton do something like that?

Speaker 4 (55:57):
He had fifty.

Speaker 3 (55:58):
I think he was you know what, I think. I
have to look this up, but I think he was
the last sixer to have fifty before Iverson.

Speaker 4 (56:06):
Because that was like ninety five.

Speaker 1 (56:07):
Well, there was what was Dana Barrow?

Speaker 3 (56:10):
Dana Barrows had a big one.

Speaker 1 (56:11):
He had a big one and beat at seventy like
two years ago. But is he still with the team? MB? Like,
what's gonna happen next year? With the Sixers.

Speaker 4 (56:21):
Willie Burton is gone.

Speaker 1 (56:22):
What Burn's done? Yeahana Barrow's gone BC guy right BC.
I think Dana Barrows will be she You're Boston right.

Speaker 4 (56:29):
At Boston University. Thank you.

Speaker 3 (56:31):
I don't care what they do up the street at
the E line.

Speaker 1 (56:34):
Who do you play for? Earlier?

Speaker 2 (56:38):
We go again? All right? U. In nineteen fifty one,
Gus Bell hits for the cycle against the Phillies. Pirates
outfielder Gus Bell hit for a cycle leading the Pittsburgh
Pirates at two or twelve four victory over the Phillies.
Here's a fun fact. His grandson hit a cycle for
the Phillies.

Speaker 1 (56:59):
David A.

Speaker 2 (56:59):
Belle David Bell. Do you know what year?

Speaker 1 (57:02):
Yeah? Ninety two?

Speaker 2 (57:04):
No, two thousand and four? David Bell, David Bell.

Speaker 4 (57:08):
Wait, we had we had wand Bell? Wasn't J Bell
a pirate?

Speaker 3 (57:11):
Mind?

Speaker 2 (57:12):
Thinking of J Bell was a pirate But I think
J Bell did play for the Phillies. If I remember, we.

Speaker 4 (57:16):
Always had the wrong one.

Speaker 2 (57:21):
Brother, Phil Howard Chuck instead of Dale Howard. Here's another.
Here's a good one for you. In nineteen sixty four,
Sandy kofacts No hits the Philadelphia Phillies. He threw his
third career no hitter, shutting down the Phillies three nothing.

Speaker 3 (57:40):
And now look at him, he's a U Look at him.

Speaker 1 (57:42):
Yeah, what's the question.

Speaker 2 (57:44):
There was no question to that one.

Speaker 4 (57:45):
He's just giving us. He's just giving us, talking, talking.

Speaker 2 (57:48):
But here's one for you, Joe. You know what happened
today in nineteen ninety with Penn State.

Speaker 1 (57:56):
What's the month is it? June fourth State, nineteen ninety.

Speaker 4 (57:59):
Yes, Blair Thomas set a practice record.

Speaker 1 (58:03):
It did something corrupt. I don't know, san dusky.

Speaker 2 (58:13):
I was gonna you know, I was gonna be dirtyna
real dirty.

Speaker 1 (58:18):
But he's dirty.

Speaker 2 (58:19):
No, he of course he was. But all right, you're
not guessing it. I thought you would get it. So
they joined the Big Ten.

Speaker 1 (58:27):
That's good.

Speaker 3 (58:27):
They were an independent, right, they were an independent Notre Dame, No,
Notre Dame. You know now, quick question before we leave,
and if people have already stopped listening, who cares? Then
remember the last Notre Dame football player drafted number one overall?

Speaker 1 (58:41):
Oh, here we go.

Speaker 4 (58:43):
It'd be a lot of silence because you ain't guessing it.

Speaker 1 (58:46):
Did you know who I was kind of dating a
few months ago?

Speaker 4 (58:49):
The number one overall draft about Notre.

Speaker 1 (58:51):
Dame non Catholic quarterbacks. Sister the Jewish kid did yous
quarterback for Notre Dame.

Speaker 4 (58:57):
No Tony Rice's kids, sister.

Speaker 1 (58:59):
Yeah, so jewish to you.

Speaker 4 (59:01):
You never know, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (59:03):
Hey, Ron Carue converted.

Speaker 1 (59:05):
Yep, gosh orangetein anyway, number one overall Notre Dame. That's
gonna be the last person, last football player.

Speaker 3 (59:17):
It was nineteen seventy two. His name was Walt Patulski.

Speaker 1 (59:21):
Yeah, I didn't get that one.

Speaker 4 (59:22):
You have no idea. How many chicks just are calling me?
My phone's blowing up right now.

Speaker 1 (59:27):
That's pretty good.

Speaker 2 (59:28):
I was about to say.

Speaker 1 (59:30):
I'd be pretty Yeah, it's that good stuff. By the way,
I'll get that later. We'll get that. Takelin all right,
anything else college, we've got to run.

Speaker 2 (59:42):
We've hey, yeah, we got a new instagram. Okay, a
new instagram. Someone apparently we don't even have the The
Philly Pulse isn't even available anymore.

Speaker 1 (59:54):
So, Uh, our new.

Speaker 2 (59:56):
Instagragram is the Philly Pulse Sports Beat. Make sure that
you follow us.

Speaker 3 (01:00:01):

Speaker 2 (01:00:02):
You can get one of the clips on here.

Speaker 4 (01:00:04):
And you can find me on Blue Sky.

Speaker 1 (01:00:06):
