You know you mentioned earlier something about the Build Moore Hotel.
I'd forgotten about that episode in your life. But you
used to run a Nashville motel. I know you ran

(08:03):
the restaurant and the entertainment.

Speaker 4 (08:05):
We didn't Actually, we had nothing to do with the
motel other than the fact that Patsy and I least
the restaurant and the bar from the owner of the motel.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
I had you worked entertained there though? Yeah. I had
worked there.

Speaker 4 (08:20):
On a couple of occasions and had even worked out
of town at some other places that these people owned,
and had asked they had not been doing well in
the restaurant in the bar for whatever reasons, and I
had asked on a couple of occasions, I had asked

(08:41):
John Walker, who who was really the only motel man
in this small conglomerate that owned the Biltmore.

Speaker 1 (08:48):
And several others.

Speaker 4 (08:50):
I'd asked him a couple of times about possibly leasing
the restaurant in the bar, and he said, no, we
have to maintain control of it. But they still kept
on losing money. And one day he called I was
out of town, and he asked Pantcy if we'd like
to lease the restaurant, and she said, no, we like
to least the restaurant in the bar. So we took
it over and we were in there about thirteen months

(09:10):
and made a little money at it. But it's one of
those situations you've got to stay.

Speaker 1 (09:14):
On top of.

Speaker 4 (09:14):
You've got you've got to run that kind of business yourself.

Speaker 1 (09:20):
You mean you can't have absentee ownership.

Speaker 4 (09:23):
No, not really, it's there's too there are too many opportunities.

Speaker 1 (09:28):
Okay, are you still doing a lot of commercials?

Speaker 11 (09:31):
Ed?

Speaker 1 (09:32):
Not so much. You may have heard Ed's voice on
a lot of commercials and knew it, or maybe you
didn't notice, but Ed for years one of his long
suits has been the singing of jingles about everything you
want names in Oh.

Speaker 4 (09:47):
God, Ralph of several beers, Ultra Bright, tooth Paste, Live
or Soap, Armed Services, which has been running very recently.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
You know, if you saw the I'm a Big Basketball out,
if all the n cua A playoffs the Armed Forces
bought commercials and or did they bought a flock am
the basketball playoffs and Ed's voice popped up every time
they had a time out.

Speaker 4 (10:14):
And there were no breathing holes in those things either.

Speaker 1 (10:18):
They're pretty wordy. What's the toughest commercial? Just some of
the commercials because of you knows, writers of commercials really
go far out sometimes do some of them crack you up? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (10:32):
I think one of the funniest things that ever happened
was doing a commercial for co Op Farmers go up, yeah,
and some of the products us.

Speaker 1 (10:46):
And there's something was said about.

Speaker 4 (10:50):
Lesion nematodes lesion member, and I said, I said, why
don't you just say cut worms?

Speaker 1 (10:56):
You know? Cut worms? Yeah? Is that what a lesion?

Speaker 4 (11:01):
But that's they throw in all these these fancy Latin
names for him instead of just calling it bow weavel
or whatever it is.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
Uh is? Are some of those phrases difficult to sing? Well?
This was talking? Uh?

Speaker 4 (11:14):
But yeah, some of them are combinations certain uh, combinations
of sounds, and sometimes they want you to phrase it
a particular way that just it just doesn't it just
doesn't flow.

Speaker 1 (11:29):
Sometimes I'll hear you doing any doing the singing, and
then you'll stop singing talk awhile you record those separately.

Speaker 4 (11:37):
It varies sometimes we're doing and sometimes one will just
flows naturally. If it's real wordy. A lot of times
you'll you'll cut the music part of it and then
do the announcer bed.

Speaker 1 (11:50):
What's the biggest commercial you've ever had in terms of
in terms of money?

Speaker 4 (11:56):
I really don't know. Boy, here we go again. You know,
Patsy takes care of all that. I see the office
does it actually has you on an allowance, right, I'm
kind of like a racehorse. They put me in the
gate of the day and date, you know, and say
run and all the money comes into the office. Now,
I got the staff over there that takes care of everything,

(12:19):
and you know it ain't a bad weather.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
You don't even get your check, do you know?

Speaker 12 (12:23):
I just can I have some money, Patsy, All right,
now make Daniel's next Take it now, working nine to.

Speaker 13 (12:38):
Five, just to stay alive, living from day to day
and the TV Denner's and a tonic and gin just
seating up all my face. It's a natural fact. If
you live in like that, you won't be living long.
It takes a whole lot of loving, from a whole
lot of woman to keep yourself. It's fine and strong

on the outskirts of town whose how to treat me right.

and creeks.
