Elf Emory was so kind to let us borrow. Conway.
How are you.

Speaker 3 (00:24):
I'm doing fine, Ralph. You know, of course why we're here.

Speaker 4 (00:27):
Oh yeah, because you love cold weather and Santa Claus.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
Yeah, I know you love Santa Claus. I hope Santa
Claus good to you this year.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Me too.

Speaker 3 (00:36):
What do you want for Christmas?

Speaker 4 (00:40):
Well, I hadn't give them that much thought.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Think about it. I'm gonna come back to it. Why
don't we open this show before we get to the
Christmas album of your new Christmas album with a good
friend of yours, and I think you ought to bring
him on. This is a young man that's been traveling
with me for the last three or four years on
my concerts out around the country, and as far as
I'm concerned, he he's one of the one of the best.

Speaker 4 (01:04):
I hate to call him a newcomer. He's been around
for a while, but in a country of music, it
takes a long time to get it going sometime, and uh,
but he's one of the better ones. His name is
Ronnie McDowell, and he's got a new song called You
made a wanted man out of me.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
I used to.

Speaker 5 (01:18):
Want no ties to bind me.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
The only love I took the spring.

Speaker 5 (01:27):
And then he said, I stole you hardly.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
You made a wand and mad me.

Speaker 5 (01:37):
Won't see my face on any old stood.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
There's nobody on my head.

Speaker 5 (01:47):
It's just my picture on your pursuit.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
And my reward is in your bed.

Speaker 5 (01:57):
You made a wanted.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
Mad of me.

Speaker 5 (02:01):
You said, my loves all you want and all you me.
You said your signs on me.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
You children, don't go breathe. You made a wanted man.

Speaker 6 (02:23):
I could have run and left you lone me.

Speaker 5 (02:28):
He looked for other hearts of steel.

Speaker 6 (02:33):
When I returned the love I did, I told the
truth about power frieve.

Speaker 5 (02:43):
We faced each other in the court house. The judge
said mussns.

Speaker 6 (02:49):
Was a lie, and then he flace me in your custody.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
He pronounced us man, And why.

Speaker 5 (03:02):
You man a wanted man of me? You said, I
love song.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
You won't it on you?

Speaker 2 (03:12):
You said, you.

Speaker 7 (03:12):
Said so should I don't go read?

Speaker 2 (03:17):
You made a warded me. You made a wanted man
of me. You said, I love song. You wanting on you?

Speaker 5 (03:31):
You said, you said, so you shoot, I don't go
up free. You made a wanted man, you mad wanted
miss me.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
That's Ronnie McDowell. I guess Ronnie is still part of
your road show. He is, And that's you made a
wanted man of me. Just the other day, I was
talking with Les Beasley over at the Gospel Singing Jubilee
television program, and Less was telling me that many of
the letters people write to him ask where they can
find a Bible with giant print. Well, here's good news.

(04:05):

Speaker 1 (04:50):
On this edition of the Ralph Emery Show from the
North Pole. Uh, Conway Twitty is my guest, and we
are featuring his new Christmas album. And there's a song
in here written by Irving Berland that is a classic
and Conway I sort of suspected it would be there.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
You want to talk about White Christmas?

Speaker 4 (05:13):
Uh, you know, it's one of the one of the
greatest Christmas songs. It may be the greatest I've ever heard.
So it's hard to pick your favorite sometime. But this song,
it hasn't got it about twelve lines in it. But
the man took that pencil and wrote twelve lines that
were immortal. They'll be around for a long long time.
I have looked forward to recording the song for years,
and we did it a little different. It's a new,

(05:36):
fresh approach to a great song. What is the difference here,
the differences in the vocal approach and the arrangement. What
about Santa's Dog Snowball?

Speaker 3 (05:49):
Snowball is.

Speaker 4 (05:52):
Snowball is what he does for Santa Claus is there's
a character in here called the Old snow Witch, and
she tries to mess up Christmas every year for everybody.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
You know.

Speaker 4 (06:01):
She tries to screw up what Santa Claus is trying
to get done up there. And uh, Snowball watches after
they Old snow Witch and lets Santa Claus and this
helpers know if she's around somewhere. Okay, all right, and Uh,
I might add you to a super job. Singing this
song to you certainly lend credit to the song. So
here again is Irving Brilliant's Christmas classic and it's from

(06:24):
Conway's album Marry Twistmas.

Speaker 3 (06:30):
Well.

Speaker 4 (06:31):
Having fun is just one of the nice things about Christmas. Look,
twty bird, there's Santa Claus dog Snowball. Well, he's making
sure the Old snow Witch doesn't steal any of the
presidents Center has for everyone.

Speaker 5 (06:49):
Sal Ball to watch out for me.

Speaker 7 (06:52):
It's hope it s just like this happened to lady.

Speaker 4 (06:56):
If it doesn't, we can always dream about it.

Speaker 3 (07:00):
M I am dreaming.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
Of a wise Christens, just like the ones I use.

Speaker 3 (07:30):
To know where the trees to listen.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
And the children listen to ye slave. So I'm dreaming

(08:05):
of a wild.

Speaker 4 (08:08):
Christmas with every Christmas call.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
Have your tam be mery and rise.

Speaker 3 (08:34):
And me.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
Chrismas says being one. I am dreaming of a wild.

Speaker 5 (08:55):
Christmas with every quest.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
Must go.

Speaker 3 (09:10):
You day.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
And may.

Speaker 4 (09:23):
You christmay.

Speaker 1 (09:29):
B All right, Conway, We're going to pause here, and

(09:51):
I'm going to give a cue to the stations, and
then we're going to go right back to the story. Okay,
so you've heard Conway Twitty and White Christmas and now
the continuing saga of Conway Twitty at the North Paul

(10:11):
with the twitty bird.

Speaker 3 (10:12):
What's coming up here? Conway?

Speaker 4 (10:15):
This is a unique song, Ralph They we had a
few writers in Nashville who attempted to write a song
especially for the twitty bird, and a couple of writers
in town came up with a Jim Dandy. As far
as I'm concerned. When I heard the song, it just
bulew my socks off. And it's called Christmas Is for
the Birds, and it kind of speaks for itself. All right,

(10:37):
you know, a twitty bird.

Speaker 3 (10:39):
I really love that song.

Speaker 4 (10:41):
It's always been one of my favorites, and one reason
is that it brings back memories of when.

Speaker 3 (10:46):
I was just a boy and reminds me of how
much I love Christmas. Tweety bird, did you hear me?
What were you dreaming about.

Speaker 7 (11:00):
When I was just a little, say, twitty bird, I
thought that Twistmas was just for people.

Speaker 4 (11:08):
Oh yeah, I remember when you used to think like that.
You sure missed out on a lot of fun for
a while there, but you soon learned that Christmas was
for birds too, remember, Yeah, that's right unway, and I.

Speaker 7 (11:22):
Want to tell everybody that story.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
Oh it was.

Speaker 7 (11:35):
Twistmas Eve and I was cold and all and all
sitting by a Jimney cop trying to get warm. I
heard the sound of Twistmas bells jingling far away. Then
there came a jolly you fot wow, and I saw
a big red slag. Before I knew it, there.

Speaker 5 (11:55):
Was Santa looking right at me.

Speaker 7 (11:58):
He said, hey, little bird, why are you so sad
on Christmas Eve? I said, because no one cares a
thing about the birds this time of year.

Speaker 5 (12:07):
What Christmas is for people?

Speaker 7 (12:09):
They get all the Christmas cheers. Santa kind of.

Speaker 5 (12:13):
Chuckles, and he took me in his hands. He said,
but Christmas is for you and all your feathers friends.
Because birds are very special and Fanta is never wrong.
Come froy beside my play with me and sing this
Twistmas song.

Speaker 6 (12:31):
Christmas is for the birds, Santa the sign the same girls.

Speaker 2 (12:38):
Friend, the word.

Speaker 6 (12:41):
Christmas is for the birds. Country birds and city birds,
ugly birds and pretty birds, big birds and little bitty birds.

Speaker 7 (12:53):
Even me, the twitty birds.

Speaker 2 (12:55):
Christmas is for the birds. Man just said.

Speaker 7 (13:08):
You know, the birds have always been the one to
take the lead whenever something special must be done.

Speaker 5 (13:16):
That's why every.

Speaker 7 (13:17):
Year you'll find a robin redbreast there announcing to the
whole live world when spring is in the air. The
rooster's crow at sunrise waits all the people up, and
the canaries friendly little song as such.

Speaker 5 (13:33):
A cheerful touch.

Speaker 7 (13:34):
The eagle lies for freedom, and what about the dove?
What his assemble everywhere for peace and joy and love.
Each one has a special job.

Speaker 5 (13:46):
The birds all worked so hard, so.

Speaker 7 (13:48):
You see, my little feathered friend, you should be proud
of who you are. And the twistless time we celebrate
them all the good they do. So Mary, Twistmas, twitty.

Speaker 4 (13:59):
Bird, you Chrismas is far The birds.

Speaker 6 (14:07):

Speaker 2 (14:10):

Speaker 6 (14:15):

and pretty birds, big birds and little bitty birds.

Speaker 5 (14:25):
Even me, the tweety birds.

Speaker 2 (14:27):
Christmas is far. The birds.

Speaker 4 (14:34):
Christmas is far.

Speaker 2 (14:36):
The birds.

Speaker 6 (14:39):
Santa Lives are sala.

Speaker 2 (14:40):
Of same, Go and spread the word.

Speaker 4 (14:44):
Christmas is far.

Speaker 6 (14:47):
The birds, coumtry birds and city birds of flip birds,
and pretty birds, big birds and little bitty firsts.

Speaker 7 (14:56):
Even me, the tweety birds.

Speaker 2 (14:58):
Christmas the bird.

Speaker 4 (15:10):
I suppose the twitty bird got a big kick out
of that. Twenty Bird loved it, you know, you know,
toy bird got with him and told him this story,
you know how you felt about Christmas and his experience
with Santa Claus back a few years ago, and how
he got into the Christmas thing. And this guy sat
down and wrote a super little song about it. All right,
you've verd Conway Twitty from his Christmas album with Christmas

(15:31):
Is for the Birds. Will all of you be together
at Christmas time at your house?

Speaker 3 (15:38):
Oh? Sure, Yeah, everybody at twenty City will be right there,
just like we are every year. Do you have a
big Christmas party for people that work there.

Speaker 4 (15:46):
Well, the Christmas of twenty City is one gigantic Christmas party.
I assume there'll be a time when all of you
get off in the office there and just have.

Speaker 3 (15:54):
A little you know, we'll get together.

Speaker 4 (15:56):
We do that about every now with pork Chop and well,
pork Chop he's big on Christmas.

Speaker 3 (16:02):
You know.

Speaker 1 (16:03):
Porkshop is a big kid. Sure, he is my drummer,
pork Chop. How old is s Porkshop.

Speaker 4 (16:08):
Porkshop, I think is I think forty one. He's never
grown up now and he never will. And that's one
of the things I like about him.

Speaker 1 (16:15):
You know, I hate, as I have said a thousand times,
I hate to talk about anything visual on a radio show.
But I hope that you will go by your favorite
record store and look for this album and just pick
it up and look at the artwork, the pictures of

(16:35):
Toyland to Toyland Town and all the characters who are
in Conway's album Mary Twistmans. I think you would get
a kick out of it.

Speaker 3 (16:43):
I really do.

Speaker 4 (16:44):
And this would make a nice Christmas present too. Yeah,
it's you know, I told you earlier. There's there are
over one thousand hours in this In the cover alone,
it's a it's a gatefold album or a fold out album.
And all the characters that twenty Bird and nine encounter
while we're toll in town, they're all there. Everyone that
you hear on the album, they're all there. I've never

(17:06):
heard that expression gatefold album. I've only heard that in
the past few months since we've been dealing with this album.
I always call it a fold out album. I always
heard it a double LP or something like that. But
it does fold like like a gate Uh huh, Okay,
let's move on. This is not a Christmas record. It
is a moving record. But the Kendo is called moving train.

Speaker 5 (17:36):
This time we found something so and we both knew
we haven't been away. We wore you fall in love.

Speaker 2 (17:46):
