Oh, so excited about this.
This is the Teflon episode.

So excited I started choking onmy water episode.
So excited, I started chokingon my water.
So the question on the internetif nothing sticks to Teflon,
what makes Teflon stick to thepan?
I thought I knew this onepretty well.
Teflon is applied at a superhigh temperature which, during
proper use, will not be reachedby home and commercial kitchens,

and at that higher temperaturethe Teflon will stick to the pan
.
It actually goes a little bitmore like this and, as an aside,
kinetic Chemicals registeredthe Teflon trademark in 1945.
And while Teflon is known forthe non-stick properties, it

does form a strong bond with thesurface of the pan.
And here's how it works.
First they sandblast the pan tocreate a lot of micro-scratches
on the surface.
Then they spray on a coat ofTeflon primer.
This primer, like most primers,is thin, enabling a high heat

causing the Teflon to solidifyand get a reasonably secure
mechanical grip.
Next you spray on a finish coatand bake.
That Teflon finish coat willstick to the Teflon primer coat,
just fine, but it's not goingto stick to your foods.
Yay, teflon, but if you'recooking on high heat etc in your

home kitchen, yes, you candegrade the Teflon coating,
making it worthless as anon-stick pan.
