(00:04):
The wooden cricket. Welcome, welcome, welcome
friends. You are listening to the Wooden
Cricket Podcast. I'm so glad you're here.
Happy Sunday, 1st Sunday of the month, probably your communion
(00:25):
Sunday if you're at church today.
Hopefully you were. But we've got a deep one for you
today. A single verse that has the
power to shift your entire mindset, reshape your attitude,
and reroute your whole entire day if you let it.
Colossians 3, verse 2. Think about the things of
(00:47):
heaven, not the things of earth. Now maybe you've heard this
before, maybe it sounds simple or overly simple, but I promise
you this. This verse is a call to
transformation because where your mind dwells, your life
often follows. We live in a world that bombards
(01:11):
us with earthly things. News adds bills, gossip,
temptation, pride and pressures at every turn.
Every screen you open, every street you walk down, Earthly
things scream for your attention.
But Paul is urging us here. Don't get stuck there.
(01:35):
Lift your mind. Look higher.
Set your thoughts. Not just a casual glance, but
set them on the things of heaven.
That word set, It's active. It means to fix, to fasten, to
intentionally direct your thoughts towards something
beyond this world. To really grasp Colossians 3/2,
(02:00):
you need the verse that comes right before it.
Some Colossians 3 one. Since you have been raised to
new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of
heaven, where Christ sits in theplace of honor, God's right
hand. This is identity language.
(02:21):
Paul is saying you're not the same person you used to be.
You've been raised with Jesus. You're living a new life now.
So stop setting your sights on what's dying.
Start setting your heart on what's eternal.
This isn't spiritual escapism. It's alignment.
(02:41):
And when you set your mind on heaven, you're not running from
reality. You're anchoring yourself in
what is most real. So let's go even deeper.
Romans chapter 12, verse 2, do not conform to the pattern of
this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
(03:03):
This is not just a mental exercise, this is worship, this
is surrender. This is the Holy Spirit rewiring
you from the inside out. You don't drift into godly
thinking. You choose it, you practice it,
and you fight for it. Because the world's pattern is
(03:24):
to keep you distracted, to keep you anxious, to keep you
scrolling, keep you comparing and chasing and feeling down and
bummed out. But heaven's pattern is peace.
Heaven's pattern is grace. Heaven's pattern is Jesus.
(03:44):
So what does it look like to actually set your mind on heaven
while you're still here? Let's be practical.
It's waking up and saying Lord, today is yours.
Help me think of how you think. It's choosing not to let your To
Do List rule your peace. It's deciding to respond with
(04:06):
gentleness instead of frustration.
It's remembering that your coworker isn't your enemy, even
if they act like one sometimes. In Philippians 4, verse 8, it
gives us a heavenly filter for our thoughts.
It says fix your thoughts on what is true and honorable and
right and pure and lovely and admirable.
(04:30):
You start to see people through grace, The people you're
accustomed to, the people that you wouldn't think of, these
that you know grace about. You start to walk in forgiveness
for yourself and for others. You start to speak with purpose.
Heavenly thinking leads to holy living.
Jesus lived on earth with a heavenly mindset.
(04:54):
He wasn't distracted by power orpopularity.
He didn't panic when storms hit the boat.
He didn't run from sinners. He walked right towards them
with love and truth. And John chapter 5, Jesus says
this. He says I only do what I see the
Father doing. That's it.
(05:15):
That is heaven first living. It's not about knowing every
single answer, believe me. And it's not staying so close to
the Father that your next step mirrors his.
No, Now let's be honest, we wantto think heavenly thoughts, but
it's hard. It's very hard.
Why? Because distractions are so
(05:36):
easy. Because comparison feels normal.
Because the enemy wants to keep your mind earthbound.
Does that make sense? 2nd Corinthians 10 verse 5.
We take captive every thought and make it obedient to Christ.
That is a battle verse. Not every thought is holy, and
(05:57):
not every feeling is truthful. But when you take it captive,
when you hold it up to the lightof God's Word, you break the
cycle. Isaiah 26 verse 3 brings all
home. You will keep in perfect peace
all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you.
(06:18):
Not perfect circumstances, perfect peace.
And that piece doesn't come fromtrying harder.
It comes from fixing your thoughts, not on your fear, not
on your failures, but on your Father in heaven.
When you do that, peace becomes your baseline, not just an
(06:41):
emergency plan when things are spiraling out of control.
So here's my challenge for you today, for tomorrow, and for
every single day after that. Start your morning with Jesus.
Pause midday and check your thoughts and end your night in
gratitude and surrender to Him. This is a daily rhythm, and when
(07:07):
you mess up, when your mind draws back to worry and to
anger, to envy, do not give up, just reset, because grace is
always waiting and Jesus never leaves.
You were never meant to live with your eyes glued to the
ground, and you're never meant to carry the weight of the world
(07:27):
on your shoulders. Jesus carried the cross so that
you could just carry peace. So today, please lift your eyes,
set your thoughts, speak life and remember who you belong to.
It's Jesus. This world is not your home.
But while you're here, let your mind be rooted in eternity.
(07:51):
Let your life reflect the goodness of Jesus.
And you've got this because he'sgot you.

Wooden Cricket Podcast. If this has encouraged your
heart in any way, shape or form, please send it to a friend.
Post it up, let somebody know. Peace and purpose are found in
(08:14):
setting your mind on Jesus in heaven.
And if you're feeling overwhelmed by the weight of
this world, remember, Jesus hasn't left you.
He never will. He's inviting you to lift your
eyes and rest your heart. Until next time, my friends,
keep walking with Jesus. Keep setting your thoughts above
(08:37):
and keep on sharing the good news of our Lord Jesus Christ.
I can't wait to hear from you inthe comments and I can't wait to
