Athena Hope (00:15):
Hello everyone,
welcome to the Transgenders at
War podcast, the show thatfocuses on transgender people,
politics and how transgenderpeople are affected by it.
I'm your host, athena Hope.
In today's episode, we will betalking about a very charming
lady who goes by the name ofNancy Mace.
Now, nancy Mace isn't yourtypical cold-hearted,
(00:35):
mean-spirited Republican.
Nancy Mace is someone who willgo out of her way just to spread
as much hate as possible.
Please be aware that thisepisode may contain a trigger
warning for abusive language.
Let's get started.
Let's take a moment to get toknow Nancy Mace.
Nancy Mace (01:00):
USAID awarded $2
million to strengthen trans-led
organizations to delivergender-affirming health care in
Guatemala.
So to each of you this morning, does this advance the interests
of American citizens paying fortrannies in Guatemala to the
tune of $2 million?
Speaker 3 (01:16):
Mr Chairman,
parliamentary inquiry.
Yes, sir Um the gentlelady hasused a phrase that is considered
a slur in the LGBTQ communityand the transgender community.
Let me please finish withoutinterruption.
Nancy Mace (01:35):
Tranny, tranny,
tranny.
I don't really care.
You want penises in women'sbathrooms and I'm not going to
have it.
Okay, no, thank you Wow.
Athena Hope (01:44):
Believe it or not,
that's a member of Congress.
Nancy Mace has faced noconsequences for her hateful
rhetoric.
In fact, her followers praiseher so-called bravery.
But let's be clear targeting avulnerable minority is not brave
, it's cowardly.
Nancy isn't a special case.
She's just more vocal about thesentiments many Republicans
(02:05):
hold but are too afraid toexpress openly.
By normalizing hate, she'sbreaking down barriers in the
worst way possible.
Let's take a look at thehistory of Nancy Mace and see
what her endgame is.
(02:29):
Nancy Mace was elected toCongress in 2020, representing
the South Carolina's firstcongressional district.
Initially, she presentedherself as a progressive
Republican, even supporting LGBTrights, and helped create
legislation like the Serving OurLGBT Veterans Act.
But Nancy realized very quickthat progressiveness doesn't get
you very far.
In the Republican Party, herpositions did a complete 180,
aligning with the party's corestances.
(02:51):
She became a vocal advocate forrestricting transgender rights,
using her platform to promoteanti-trans legislation.
This shift isn't aboutprinciples, it's about political
power.
She has never actually caredabout making the world a better
place.
Nancy Mace has shown that she'swilling to sacrifice her
supposed values to gaininfluence and appease the
Republican base.
(03:11):
She makes it very clear thatyou don't make it very far as a
Republican, unless you take thehate in your heart and find the
most creative ways to hurtminorities with it.
Nancy often wears large, elegant Christian cross earrings
, a symbol of her faith.
But let's not be fooled.
Throughout history, religion hasbeen used to control and
manipulate populations.
(03:32):
Those in power use religioussymbols to present themselves as
moral authorities, while actingin ways that are anything but
compassionate.
Throughout all of humanity, governments have always used
religion as a way to control andpacify the population, but do
not let them deceive you.
They may wear their crossesquoting inspiring verses saying
how much they love and care foreveryone, but in reality they
(03:54):
only care about themselves.
If you do not believe in theirGod, then you are doomed to
suffer in hell for all ofeternity.
They find great joy and feelmorally superior to you because
you do not believe in theirfairy tales.
I'm not here to condemn allreligions.
Religion can be a force forgood when it inspires people to
do better, but too often it isused as a justification for
hatred and division.
(04:15):
The Republican Party, whichpraises itself as the party of
Christian values, is a primeexample of this hypocrisy.
I'm not sure what's scariersomeone who pretends to be a
Christian to manipulate othersor someone who isn't pretending
and hurt others because theyfeel they are morally superior.
Religion has been one of theleading causes of all human
death in history.
Just because one person's fairytale doesn't exactly match
(04:37):
yours, now you have an excuse tokill them.
Unsurprisingly, the RepublicanParty praises themselves to be
the Christian Party.
This makes it all the moreeasier to demonize anyone
against them.
Oh, you don't believe in my GodTime to make you suffer, they
say.
There is no hate like Christianlove, and the Republican Party
is just full of Christian love.
They use their beliefs tocontrol women, denying them the
(04:58):
right to make decisions abouttheir own bodies.
They spread hate andintolerance, all while claiming
to act in the name of love.
It's a twisted form of moralitythat has no place in our society
.
I don't give a fuck what yourGod likes or doesn't like.
I don't believe you should beable to use your beliefs to
control other people.
Our society must focus more onscience and things we can
actually see.
(05:19):
We need to focus on the peoplehere on earth, not some
afterlife paradise you came upwith in your head that you can
go to only if you hurt enoughpeople.
We need to focus on logic andempathy, not on divisive beliefs
that cause harm.
Religion has a strong hold onthis country, and it's time we
break free from its grip.
Since religion wants to beinvolved in our government so
much, we need to start taxingthem instead of allowing
(05:41):
billionaire Christian elites tobe created through megachurches
that they collect money fromtax-free.
I'm starting to get a littleoff-topic here, but we will
definitely talk more about thisin a future episode.
Let's get back to Nancy Mace.
One of Nancy's most Christianand loving actions was how she
treated her new minorityco-worker.
Meet Sarah McBride, the womanwho will forever go down in
(06:01):
history as the first transgenderperson to serve in Congress.
Congress is a place where weare supposed to come to an
understanding with each other inorder to create laws that
benefit all Americans.
Sadly, someone beingtransgender is still off the
table for a lot of people withhate in their hearts.
When Sarah McBride joinedCongress, it threw the
Republicans into an uproar.
They became so upset you wouldhave thought the world was
(06:23):
ending, but it didn't end.
Something worse happened.
A scary transgender person isnow eating at the same table as
them, and they are absolutelydisgusted.
It's okay, though, becauseNancy Mace was somehow able to
summon up the courage to dealwith the threat.
Nancy Mace led the Republicansby creating one of the most
anti-transgender bills ever made.
Her bill wants to mandate thatevery single federal property is
(06:45):
segregated by biological sexrather than gender, defining
biological sex as the productionof eggs or sperm.
Federal property is defined asany building, land or other
property owned, leased oroccupied by any department,
agency or instrumentality of theUnited States.
This includes culturallandmarks such as the
(07:05):
Smithsonian Museums, theNational Gallery of Art and the
National Zoo, as well asmilitary bases, va hospitals and
federal government buildings,as well as every single airport.
This bill not only affectsevery single transgender
American, but it also affectsall international travelers.
You may wonder how could theypossibly enforce such a ban?
Are you supposed to check everysingle woman who doesn't appear
(07:28):
as their gender?
How do you determine who iswoman enough and who isn't?
Some transgender women passmore than cis women do.
The same logic applies totransgender men and cis men.
The enforcement of such a banwould be a logistical nightmare,
leading to harassment anddiscrimination.
Nancy Mace has quoted thefollowing it is offensive that a
man in a skirt could ever thinkshe's my equal, that her
(07:49):
challenges are the same as mine.
They're not.
She's forcing her genitals intowomen's restrooms, into
dressing rooms, into lockerrooms.
It's sick, it's twisted.
Nancy Mace has made it clearthat she views transgender
people as a threat, usinginflammatory language to stroke
fear and division.
But her obsession withgenitalia is not only invasive,
it's irrelevant.
Transgender people deservedignity and respect, not to be
(08:11):
reduced down to their anatomy.
I think Republicans' obsessionwith genitalia is getting a
little scary.
Now you are assuming you knowSarah McBride's genitalia based
on her assigned gender of birth.
However, transgender people canget the genitalia that matches
their gender identity.
So what she has is her businessand hers alone.
It feels creepy to even talkabout, but this is one of the
Republicans' favorite subjects.
(08:31):
The nationwide ban will notonly hurt trans people, but it
will most likely hurt a lot morecisgender people.
When you have a ban like this, you are saying that if you do
not look like how a Republicanwants you to look, then you
might be trans.
Suppose a cisgender woman hasmuscles or slightly broad
shoulders.
In that case she will beaccused and harassed thanks to
these anti-trans policies.
(08:51):
I find it amazing how fast theRepublicans all came into
agreement.
The second, a transgenderperson came into Congress.
It's incredible how much energythey have for what is only 1%
of the population.
Donald Trump has spent millionson anti-transgender and
anti-LGBT ads for hispresidential campaign.
There's a reason Republicanswant everyone to focus on this.
The Republican Party fixation ontransgender issues is a
(09:13):
distraction from their failureto address real problems.
They use cultural wars todivide us, creating issues where
none exist to avoidaccountability for their lack of
progress.
As of right now, republicanscontrol the presidency, the
House and the Senate.
They should be able to makeAmerica great again, as they
promised us.
What is their excuse not to?
This is exactly why they jumpon these very small cultural
(09:35):
issues and talk so much aboutbathrooms and who can use what
pronouns.
The point of being a Republicanisn't to make life better for
Americans.
The point is cruelty and hatredagainst minorities.
And how do they keep gettingaway with it?
By blaming everybody else.
Donald Trump recently tweetedthat quote Biden inflation is up
.
How the hell is Biden inflationup when you've been in control
(09:57):
for over a month now?
Accountability is a wordRepublicans do not know.
The Republican Speaker of theHouse, mike Johnson, is quoted
as saying For anyone who doesn'tknow my established record on
this issue.
Let me be unequivocally clear Aman is a man and a woman is a
woman, and a man cannot become awoman.
While Republicans focus onbathrooms and pronouns, real
(10:18):
Americans like Sarah McBride aremaking positive changes.
Sarah championed a bill thatprovides paid leave for workers
caring for a new child ordealing with a family emergency.
This is the kind of progress weneed, not hateful rhetoric and
divisive policies.
And how do the Democrats respondto the very hostile treatment
of transgender people that weare seeing?
They are almost entirely mute.
(10:40):
They claim to supporttransgender rights but fail to
take meaningful action.
The Democrat Party is spinelessand has lost who they are.
We need leaders who will standup for what's right, not just
pay lip service to gain votes.
I voted for Kamala Harrisbecause anyone is better than a
literal Nazi as president.
But Kamala is not a championfor trans and gay rights.
(11:00):
She is just someone who won'tactively take our rights away.
But that is just the bareminimum.
The Democrats of today areashamed to have transgender
people on their side.
They do not defend us orretaliate when you have
congresswomen yelling tranny andpassing nonsensical laws.
There are mainly three Democratswho have shown true leadership
and became warriors, not onlyfor transgender people but for
(11:22):
all Americans.
They are Bernie Sanders, alexandria Cortez and
Representative Jasmine Crockett.
There may be more Democrats I'mmissing, but these three are
the ones I always seerelentlessly fighting to make
positive change.
They fight tirelessly for allAmericans, not just those who
fit a certain mold.
But the system is designed tokeep us divided.
The top 1% elites benefits fromour infighting, hoarding wealth
(11:46):
while the working class suffers.
It's time for a change, notmore partisan bickering.
The time for parties has passed.
We don't need a party.
We need a revolution.
Everything is just adistraction from the fact that
the top 1% is hoarding all thewealth away and keeping the
working class poor, confused andangry at each other.
America needs to wake up torealize who the enemy is, and
(12:06):
it's not trans people.
I want to thank each and everyone of you for listening to this
episode.
I'm trying different things tosee what works and what doesn't,
and, oh my god, our subredditis booming, our community is
forming up and we are alreadykicking butt.
