Imagine taking a late-night drive to cool off after a fight with your significant other....and then suddenly becoming a hero.

That's exactly what happened to our incredible guest, Nick Bostic, who joins us with a firsthand account of his courageous act that night in July 2022.

Neil came across this post from Eric Daugherty reporting about Donald Trump Jr. calling for Nick to "receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom instead of clowns like George Soros."

As Nick was out for a drive, he stumbled upon a house engulfed in flames and made the split-second decision to intervene. What followed was a gripping tale of bravery as he entered the burning structure, discovering four children asleep inside, unaware of the looming danger. Nick takes us through those intense moments, sharing how his quick thinking and determination led to saving lives.

This episode is not just about heroism; it’s a powerful reminder of the extraordinary impact one person can make in a moment of crisis. We explore the emotions and challenges Nick faced, from the initial sighting of the fire to the relief and realization of what he had accomplished. His story has captured the attention of many, including high-profile figures like Donald Trump Jr. and DC Drano, who helped propel his story back into the public eye. Tune in to hear Nick's inspiring journey and reflect on the essence of humanity and courage.

Speaker 1 (00:02):
the try that in a small town podcast all right,
welcome back.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
This is the try that, in a small town podcast, we're
coming to you from the patriotmobile studios.
Tonight we have an awesome, awesome guest.
We are thrilled that NickBostic is with us.
He's coming to us fromLafayette, indiana.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Yes.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
Nick, appreciate you being here, man.
Thanks, buddy.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Thank you.
Thank you very much.

Speaker 3 (00:33):
Yeah, absolutely, and if you're wondering who Nick is
, you may have seen him over.
Well, it's funny because it'snot funny.
But in the last week or twohe's gotten a little bit another
round of attention, andwell-deserved, for an act that
happened a couple of years ago,I think it was.
Was it Don Jr, Donald Trump Jr,or was it DC Drano that posted

(00:55):
the video of you?

Speaker 2 (00:58):
It was Trump Jr that retweeted it.
That was first, and then DCDrano.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
Um, he took a screenshot of what of that so,
and just to fill people in, incase they haven't seen the video
, which we'll roll it here forpeople to see.
But, uh, in july of 2022 thiswas two years ago, right you
went into a house that wasburning, was on fire, and you

(01:28):
ended up saving some kids thatwere in there I think it was
four or five, but we'd love foryou to recall the story and tell
it to us yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
So me and my girlfriend we got into an
argument over something sillyand, um, me, I decided to go on
a drive to get away from thearguing and kind of and cool off
.
Um, I went to o'reilly's, aplace that we would get together
for car meets, and, uh, I wentand sat there by myself just

(01:56):
thinking about stuff and then, after about 15 minutes or so, I
decided to leave and head backhome.
Um, that's when I seen thehouse fire on my left.
It just looked like a littlecampfire at first and then, when
I looked away, kind of clickedon mine that I was weird to be
out in that part of town thatlate.

(02:17):
So I looked back and I realizedit was.
It was, it was a fire that wasunmanned, you know no, or nobody
was there, you know.
So, um, I slammed on the brakesand I swung the car around.
Um, I drove up into the driveway, put the hazards on, I got out
and I tried flagging down a carthat was passing by and that

(02:39):
didn't end up stopping.
So I turned back around and, um, initially I was probably, I
probably was going to go towardmy phone, but I knew already I
didn't have my phone on me, um,because I tried getting gas
after I left the apartmentbefore I got to O'Reilly's.
So, um, I knew I didn't have it, so I just went ahead and ran

(03:00):
straight to the behind, to theback of the house, and so I went
to the side.
There was an open gate and thenI ran up to the back porch.
They had a back porch light onand I opened the door.
It was, luckily it was unlockedalready.
Um, I hung my head into thedoorway and I was hollering that
their house is on fire.

(03:21):
Is there anyone in there?
And nobody was answering.
So I proceeded to enter intothe home and, um, right, like
scurrying through the house, um,I was looking into the rooms
and hollering, I got to astaircase that led to upstairs
and I went to run up the stairsand about like three steps from
the top.
That's when a door at the endof the hallway opened up with

(03:45):
four faces in it uh, 18 year oldold, and, um, the two-year-old
and then the 13 and the 14 yearold on does they know that there
was a?

Speaker 3 (03:55):
did they know that there was a fire going on, or
did you have to alert them?
Hey, your house is on fire.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
We got to get out of here no, they didn't know there
was a fire going on.
They were all asleep, oh mygosh.
Okay, yeah, their room wasright above the fire, right
above the the front door in theliving room okay.

Speaker 4 (04:16):
So were they freaking out that you were in that, like
they didn't know, there's afire and then there's a man in
their house.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
I mean what happened initially?
Yeah, their faces lit.
Faces were lit up.
They were really surprised.
But I didn't hesitate tellingthem that their house was on
fire while I was in there.
So I told them and they rantoward me.
We ran out down the way, I camein and we get to the back patio

(04:44):
and I asked them is thereanyone left in there?
And they said a baby was leftin there.
So I ran, I run back in there,I look, I run upstairs and I
look in the room that they werein and then I look in the other
bedrooms upstairs I ended up.
I can't remember if I missed one, cause I didn't remember.

(05:05):
I don't, I don't know.
I don't think I missed one.
I don't know if I'm.
I can't remember if I missedone or not, but the bedroom that
I ended up, we ended up jumpingout of, was um, one upstairs in
the hallway, but I only Iremember looking at some
bedrooms that were across fromeach other, um, in the hallway.
I don't.
I'm sorry, there's some newstuff kind of coming to my mind

(05:27):
that I'm like thinking about.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
No, it's like that's totally understandable dude.
I mean this is a no thinkingsituation.
I mean it's amazing that youdid that.
I got to ask you this Did youget burned or get injured on the
first trip in?
No, and the second you didn'tNot the first one.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
Just the second, you didn't not the first one, just
the second time you went in.
The first one went real, realeasy and smooth.
You know, it really wasn't asscary.
The fire was still out on theoutside of the house and was
still like.
You know, it wasn't like whatyou all seen in the.
Um, the body cam, uh, that waslike that whenever I went back
in.
So like it spread real fast, but, um, I assume maybe just

(06:09):
like the porch was overtaken atthat point whenever we got to
the patio, but while I waslooking upstairs it spread a lot
faster, rapidly.
So, um, yeah, I got her.
I got burned.
I got cut.
Um the six year old, she got acut on her foot and a burn on
her her.
Uh, I got her, I got burned.
I got cut.
Um the six-year-old, she got acut on her foot and a burn on
her, her uh, shoulder.

(06:29):
Um.
Other than that, though, everybody was good, everyone was
safe and made it out Okay.

Speaker 3 (06:35):
That's just unbelievable.
It really is.
That's just unbelievable thatyour instinct was to go in there
, cause I'm you know, I don'teven know about myself, or
however many people would justbe like, oh, I hope somebody
gets here quick, and then youjust had that instinct to go in.
That is unbelievable.
Let me make sure I got theinformation.
So the kids were sleeping.
Were the parents not at thehouse right at that moment?

(06:58):
Mm-hmm, no, wow, that'sunbelievable.
So when did the parents findout about this and when did you
talk to them?
And I'm sure they were, youknow, overly grateful for your
courageous act.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
They were on a date night.
The 18 year old and Siennaended up calling them when I
weren't back into the house, Ithink she pulled her sisters and
stuff like that out to thestreet and that's when they
called, or they may have calledbefore that, I think before that
, like while they were still onthe porch.

(07:31):
It's been a while since allthis happened and stuff, and
obviously I don't replay mystuff and so I apologize that
stuff isn't like.
I'm not 100% on everything.
You know what I Like.
I'm not a hundred percent oneverything, just you know what.

Speaker 5 (07:45):
I mean, like it's a little fuzzy at this point.

Speaker 3 (07:48):
I don't remember what happened today.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
Yeah, we don't know, we don't remember what we did
today.

Speaker 4 (07:53):
Yeah, and so they, they, you know.
They say in relationships thatyou know if you're fighting,
that means you really care abouteach other so are you still
with that girlfriend?

Speaker 1 (08:09):
you know, and, and, if, and if you are, yeah, yeah,
I want to know what happened.

Speaker 4 (08:11):
That's amazing, because if it wasn't for that
fight, we may not be talking toyou tonight, right?
Yeah, I reckon so there's a godthing yeah so what did you do
to make her mad?

Speaker 2 (08:24):
um man, it was probably something petty like
dishes, not being like somethingsilly, I didn't even probably
have to overreact about.

Speaker 5 (08:33):
That's crazy how God works, though.
You know it's like sent youdown, you know made that happen
and sent you to that house toreally save those kids.

Speaker 3 (08:48):
That's 100% he was in you.

Speaker 1 (08:51):
That's a definite God thing.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
I was just going to say I got my inspiration from
watching a lot of superheromovies growing up and just kind
of picking and choosing, verypicking the good role models and
stuff like that that I wantedto learn advice from.
So that's kind of where it'sgotten me and you know, trying

(09:16):
to be closer to God, being abetter person, and I see how
that can be a good thing forother people because it inspires
when people see you doing theright thing and inspires them to
kind of follow along and Ithink eventually, if there's
enough people trying to do that, the scale will flip back over
again.

Speaker 3 (09:37):
I think you're a thousand percent right, nick.
You know we don't hear enough ofthese stories.
It seems like in today's world,in today's news, it's negative,
negative, and all you hear ispeople fighting and there's
nothing you know.
First of all, I can't believe Ididn't hear this story two
years ago when it came out, andit took something like, you know
, trump doing this to bringattention back around to it,

(10:00):
which I think is awesome, because not only do you deserve
that attention for this, likeyou said, if people can just get
inspired by that, it justhopefully that just keeps paying
it forward, paying it forwardyeah, yeah, I think so it start.

Speaker 2 (10:14):
It all starts with um one person, and then one
multiplies into two, two goesinto four, four goes into 16.
You know it all starts with you.
You know each one of you at thetable.
You all start from this day ontrying to be a better you than
you was yesterday.
You know people are gonna catchon and you'll see change, but

(10:35):
it all starts with you, with us.

Speaker 4 (10:38):
And Nick, you're an inspiration and the perfect
guest to be on.
Try that in Small Town podcast, because that's how this whole
thing started, because it'sabout small towns and people and
big towns.
Oh man, check it.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
Yes, sir, that's amazing.
So I got a lot of Southernhospitality in me and talking to
you guys, a little bit of mytwang came out, a little bit I'm
trying not to let it overflowor whatever, because trust me,
you can't, you can't let thatoverflow too much no now we, we
appreciate you, just becausethat's that's what we talk about

(11:13):
and you know, kurt, it talksabout all the time just just,
you know, looking out for yourneighbor, no matter where you
are.

Speaker 4 (11:18):
That's exactly what you did and incredibly bold you.
You know, this day and time, just going in anybody's house, I
mean like in, it's always said, and Neil too, like I don't know
how many people would have donethat.
I know a lot of people thatkept driving that, that you, you
might drive by and think man, Iwonder if I should have done
that.
And then somebody texts you orsomething, and then you, you
think of something totallydifferent, but you went in and
you actually did it.

(11:38):
Yeah, it's really just amazing.
That's that you're aninspiration, and it's cool that
you can think about the, themovies that we watch, you know
what your fantasy and sci-fi andeverything, that you actually
get inspired by that and say, hey, you know what I can do,
that I can go save somebody, andyou're not thinking about
yourself at all, which, anyway, that's just amazing.
You're an amazing man Iappreciate that nick.

Speaker 3 (11:59):
We appreciate your time, brother, we're so thankful
for you and, to reiterate whatKalo said, yeah, this show and
this podcast has started fromman.
We just want to do a little bitof the right thing, look out
for your neighbor, do somethinggood for somebody, and you are
the perfect example of that andwe're honored to have you on

(12:21):
brother.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
Thank you all very much.
It was kind of you.
Thanks for your time honored tohave you on brother.

Speaker 4 (12:25):
Yo, thank you all very much.
It was kind of you.
Thanks for your time, brother, take care, brother, be blessed
Nick.
