Violence erupts on the streets of Los Angeles as protests devolve into riots, leaving the guys feeling both infuriated and heartbroken. This special episode offers a raw, unfiltered conversation about the disturbing scenes unfolding in California.

We dive deep into what's really happening on the ground versus how it's being portrayed by some media outlets and political figures. The footage reveals protesters deliberately antagonizing police officers, throwing rocks, and setting fires – yet somehow being characterized as "mainly peaceful protests." Our discussion examines the tepid response from California's leadership, including Governor Newsom and Mayor Bass, comparing it to how presidential leadership traditionally responds during national crises.

The most emotional moments come when we discuss the human cost – especially for the families of law enforcement officers who must watch their loved ones being attacked while trying to maintain order. These aren't just uniforms; they're fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters risking their safety to protect communities. The contrast between what's tolerated in major cities versus small-town America couldn't be clearer, reinforcing exactly they wrote the song "Try That in a Small Town."

This conversation goes beyond political talking points to examine the heart of what's at stake: public safety, respect for law enforcement, and the future direction of our cities. Whether you're from a small town or a major metropolitan area, this episode provides perspective on one of the most pressing issues facing our nation today.

Subscribe, share, and join the conversation as we continue to provide our honest take on the issues that matter most to everyday Americans.

Speaker 1 (00:03):
all right, welcome back.
This is drive out in a smalltown podcast.
This is kind of a specialedition.
We got thrash, we got kaylo tk.
Of course I'm kurt, uh, youknow this just kind of felt
heavy on our hearts.
We've been watching the lastcouple nights, of course, what's
happening in la, the protests, which are basically riots.

(00:24):
Um, I don't know, it's justbeen weighing on us and we
thought we'd give you guys ouropinion of what's happened in
the last couple of days.
Uh, who wants to start on this?
Because it's you know, the onlyway I can think to describe it
is it's infuriating, slash,heartbreaking.
I've actually, to be honest, myperspective.

(00:45):
I haven't even really put it onbecause when I've watched, the
minneapolis protest turned riotsyou know my wife is from that
area it was so much and itweighed so heavy on us and it
pissed us off so much that evenwhen this thing started we

(01:08):
actually couldn't even watch.
I don't know if you guys havebeen watching long, but give
your opinion on what's kind ofhappening.

Speaker 3 (01:13):
Yeah, Tully, I think would be the best one to start
off, because he came in talkingabout it.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
It bothers me it's like look, you don't have to
agree with every decision thatan administration makes.
That's your right.
You don't have to agree with it, you don't have to like it, but
you have to obey the law.
And attacking police officers, throwing rocks at them, trying

(01:40):
to get them to engage inviolence, that's what they're
trying to get them to engage inviolence, that's what they're
trying to do.
They're trying to push thesecops to the point where
something happens.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
It's just never, okay , yeah, so they can record
something and put it out and sayyeah, and it's just not, and
that's terrible.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
And the fact that the mayor and Newsom are being so
nonchalant about it and KamalaHarris came out and said a
ridiculous statement.
It's just to me it's like Ididn't hear her statement.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
What was the semblance of that?
I?

Speaker 1 (02:13):
think all of it was basically what we've heard
before is peaceful protests.
People are, you know, just.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
They're setting stuff on fire.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
It's not peaceful protests.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
They're blowing up cars, and yeah, it's, and I
watched um yesterday.
I watched a lot of it live andthese protesters whatever,
rioters, whatever, they areliterally trying anything they
can to get these police officersto engage and it's and a lot of

(02:42):
them, by the way, are paid.

Speaker 4 (02:45):
Oh, yeah, yeah, and that's that's.
What do you think?
The percentage of those, allthe crowds that you see?
It's a great question, you know.
What do you think thepercentage of?
I don't actually actually arethere to truly peacefully
protest that's a legitimatewhich?
Thing, but you know thatshouldn't affect the way the
mayor and the governor how manyof them know what they're

(03:06):
protesting about?

Speaker 2 (03:08):
Who knows?
Yeah, but they're still notdoing anything about it and I
just feel bad for those Trump'sdoing something about it, those
cops.

Speaker 4 (03:18):
That's what's making them so mad.
Yeah, I love how they blame himfor it.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
Well now, yeah, now that he's doing that, then
they're taking the whole thingand Newsom especially.
The only thing good aboutNewsom is his hair.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
That's the only thing good about him.
He does have fantastic hair.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
The only thing good, he's got, but he is.
I mean, you talk about afull-on politician.
I mean his hair is amazing, that's it, but aren't we?

Speaker 4 (03:45):
You're right, he's terrible.
He's horrible.
He's a lovely man, he'sincompetent, lovely hair.
But I think the more they talk, the more they're just
committing suicide, politically,it's fine with me, keep on
talking.
Just keep on doing what you'redoing.
I'm not surprised or are any ofus surprised at what we're
seeing, the reaction from theleft?
I'm not.
You know what's crazy to me?

Speaker 2 (04:03):
It's very typical Still is like a good tough
response from a president iswhat we need.
I don't know if you guys havewatched it yet.
There's a great documentary onthe Boston bombings on Netflix.
I haven't seen it, it's reallygood.
It came out last week I thinkit's called Manhunter, but it's
about the Boston bombings andthree or so days after it

(04:24):
happened, president Obama wentto Boston and gave this really
tough speech in this church andsaid you know, you came to the
wrong city and did this Toughtalk and I was like you know
what?
That's what presidents do.
It was incredible.
Like if everyone watches that, that speech Obama did is great.

(04:47):
Trump's doing the same thing, but we've fallen so far off that
we forget that that's his job.
This is Los Angeles.
Like you can't have this kindof stuff going on.
It's not safe.
People's lives are in danger.

(05:07):
Um, you know, if you don't likewhat ice is doing, if you are
for criminals here illegally, Idon't know.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
I can't argue with you on that, I don't know where
the argument is but and this isgoing to spread to other cities
if he doesn't take a hard stanceyeah, yeah it always does.

Speaker 3 (05:16):
Yeah, because they're promoting it, you know, and
they're.
They're just saying you know,newsom, and what's the mayor's
name?
Bass.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
Karen Bass.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
Yeah, and they're saying that you know, and a lot
of people even on other networks, you know other networks other
than Fox.
So they'll say, yeah, it wasmainly peaceful protesting I
mean sure, there were some firesand some explosions, but mainly
peaceful protesting until Trumpsent all the troops in and
stuff and that's what'sinstigated everything and fired
everything up.
And that's not the case.
And then when would that everbe the case?

(05:46):
Like when would like a lot offorce show up and then, all of a
sudden, I want to do more crime.
Like why would I want to dothat?
You know?

Speaker 4 (05:53):
I'd be like, oh God, I'm going back to the house.
Waters could send that guy outon the street and ask every
single one of them.
He would get a hundred percentsuccess rate on people that did
not know who the mayor of thecity where they were protesting
was.
They wouldn't know who themayor was.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
They could ask them who the mayor was of la and they
wouldn't know yeah, none ofthem it's just crazy to watch
people antagonizing policeofficers like this, throwing
rocks at them.
I watched the Yesterday.
You could watch it all on TVand it was like what is going on
.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
Yeah, like I said, I've had a hard time even
watching.
And you're talking about thepolice officers.
What people don't understand?
The National Guard or thepolice officers, their families
they're there to protecteverybody and the way that they
are treating these people forjust trying to protect them, it

(06:48):
just breaks my heart.
It absolutely breaks my heart.
The families of these peoplethat have to look at people
attacking their husband orwhoever it is out there.

Speaker 3 (06:59):
Well, yeah, and was it Newsom holding off you know,
the local police enforcementfrom helping the ICE agents,
right?
That's what was kind ofhappening in the very beginning.
Can you imagine being anofficer, no matter where you are
in LA or whatever, and you, from the top down, you're saying
don't go help the ICE agents,Don't go help them, and you know
that they're.
You know the majority of thoseofficers are like I want to go

(07:23):
help the ICE agents, Don't gohelp them.
And you know that the majorityof those officers are like I
want to go help those guys rightnow, but they couldn't because
they were told not to Let themkeep talking.

Speaker 4 (07:29):
They're just digging their own political grave.
It's fine, let them keeptalking.
I'm not shocked.
It's disappointing, but I'm notshocked.
I want them to keep talking.
There's somebody in there thatcan lead that place that's
worthy of it, that actuallywants to turn la around in san
francisco and all these otheryou know hell holes that are
turning into dumps.

(07:50):
It's somebody else in there.
Let them keep talking.
They'll get voted out.
They won't get it'll.
It'll be the end of them.
If they haven't noticed thenumbers today, you know how many
?
What's the percentage?
Of americans don't wantcriminal, illegal people here.
It's like it's crazy.
It's like 85% of the people inthis country don't want that,

(08:11):
and it's like they ignore thenumbers and still talk like they
talk.
Keep on talking.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
And what about Newsom's podcast?
Right?
Keep on talking.
And what about Newsom's podcast, right?
So he's been reaching acrossthe aisles and getting
conservatives on the podcast andbeing he understands everything
that happened during theelection and everything on the
podcast, but then when he hastime to act and do things, same
old Newsom, same left wing.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
He's slick man, he is slick.

Speaker 3 (08:39):
I'm telling you he's worthless.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
Absolutely worthless as a politician, even if he
wants to do the right thing.
To rise up through that party, you have to be hardcore left,
like that's what's happening, like to to to get where he wants
to be.
It's like you need the radicalleft on your side for some

(09:02):
reason that's what it feels likeand so you can't even come to
the middle to clean up your city.
This is it's.
I'm so confused by it as Iwatch it.

Speaker 4 (09:12):
I'm like what I'm not shocked though I'm not.
As soon as I turned the tv onand saw it, I wasn't shocked at
all, and that's the sad part.
That's the sad part.
But I wasn't shocked that itwas there and I wasn't shocked
that there was cameraseverywhere and they covered it,
because the way they cover ityou think it's happening
everywhere and it's not.
That's just a little blip of aplace, really and truly, in the

(09:34):
grand scheme of things, thingswhere that's happening is just a
small little sector.
You would, I would be shockedif it was ellsworth, kansas or
somewhere, if that was going.
That doesn't shock me at all,not at all.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
Well, I just think we want everybody to know that our
hearts are with people there, and especially like for me and I
know you guys think too it'sthe people that are trying to
protect us and that are gettingattacked.
That's that's again.
That's what really breaks myheart about the whole thing.

Speaker 4 (09:59):
Yeah, this is exactly why we wrote the song what's
going?

Speaker 2 (10:03):
on in LA right now.
You're exactly right.

Speaker 4 (10:05):
Yep, I mean it's Coming back up.
Yeah, it is, it's going to comeback up.
People are going to be puttingthese bumper stickers back on
their cars.
I mean we're going to startseeing them again.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
Well, you said it like this ain't going to happen
in Ellsworth, kansas.
Like, try that in a small town.
I mean, this is the epitome ofthe song.

Speaker 4 (10:24):
If they're blocking an interstate that comes into a
small town or a two-lane or atwo-lane.
It ain't going to happen, man, they're going to get physically.
It's against the law to do that, yeah do that?

Speaker 3 (10:40):
yeah, it's not gonna happen, that's why we wrote this
song, kaylo.

Speaker 1 (10:42):
It's why you got pissed off, uh.
It rarely happens, but when itdoes, uh listen.
We're we appreciate everybodyfor listening, uh, and we hope
that you enjoy just our ussharing our thoughts.
It's just kind of random andit's just kind of out there and
we don't script this stuff, butwe felt compelled to talk about
it and we hope you guys are uhthankful and we're definitely
thankful for you watching forthrash.

(11:03):
