Welcome to Unlikely Choices! I’m Stacy, the former lawyer turned jewelry designer, and I am so glad you’re here! In this episode, we’re talking about money. Money is the number one block to starting your own business, pursuing a dream, or changing careers to do something more fulfilling. I went from a type-A, perfectionist lawyer to a more free-spirited jewelry business owner, so trust me when I tell you that money is one area I had to work on during my own journey!
First, we’ll talk about the definition of wealth. I’ll share my personal definition, and help you develop your own. It encompasses a lot more than money in the bank!
We’ll also talk about your feelings, thoughts, and beliefs around money. Do you feel at ease with money? That money comes to you easily and always shows up when you need it? Or is money something you avoid because it’s scary and always leads to an argument? We’ll take a look at the things we picked up along the way from our family, as a lot of our beliefs around money stem from what we inadvertently learned about money growing up.
I’ll then share why it is so important to work on money mindset before starting a business or making a big career change like I did. I’ll share an exercise you can do to become more aware of the particular issues you have with money. These are likely the reasons that money is holding you back from pursuing that dream of changing careers or starting your own business! And then we’ll pick up again next week on where we leave off -- we'll begin to dismantle those negative issues so you can be free of them.
The two books that can help you with this exercise are listed below. They can be found on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, or at your favorite bookstore. Don't let the titles scare you off! These women talk about money in a funny, down-to-earth manner, and I think that takes some of the fear out of the topic. It helps to laugh and know that other people have the same thoughts about money as you do!
