the trails of long ago to right the wrongs of
the oppressed. People of seven States had thrilled to his

on the feet. Afford's too late?

Speaker 5 (07:25):
You done that? Sure I did? I ain't as black
as him. Cattleman's picturing me?

Speaker 10 (07:30):
Maybe not?

Speaker 7 (07:31):
Fact is amoys, I'm hanker. They give you a hand
in fighting them gritters. The cattleman the same. How I
got a plenty man line up with me for the
most part. The fellas like me, and that a hundred
brother in law. Yeah, catch for a bar and a
couple of cows and things like that. I'm really bad, you.

Speaker 5 (07:48):
Savvy, what's been said?

Speaker 10 (07:49):
You're plenty bad?

Speaker 7 (07:50):
Oh, folks, misjudge me, Franklin. Now, if you aim to
let them come and drive you out here, all right,
there's none of my affair. But if you aim to
make us stand, you gotta have some help. They're driving
me out and you'd better hire some guns.

Speaker 5 (08:04):
What about it?

Speaker 9 (08:04):
Now?

Speaker 10 (08:05):
That means a range war, don't it.

Speaker 5 (08:06):
Well, it's war clear out. You can take the choice.

Speaker 10 (08:08):
I got as much fight here as anyone sure, No
matter where ago, it's allays the same story.

Speaker 5 (08:12):
And you may as well. Makers stand here and show
the car and the jam to keep to your right.

Speaker 10 (08:16):
Bye by hiring your man to fight for me. Ain't
sure that takes cash.

Speaker 7 (08:21):
Don't tell me that a man is built in the
quality starck you had for so many years.

Speaker 5 (08:25):
Ain't got cash?

Speaker 10 (08:26):
Maybe I have, but I just ain't sure I want
to spend it for gunmen. But let's hear your proposition.

Speaker 5 (08:31):
No moan.

Speaker 4 (08:46):
Out of the faithful Indian companion of the Lone Ranger
learned the purpose of Gordon's errand and realized that it
might cause a range war. He left the sheep raises
home at once, heading toward Franklin's flocks. But I heard
he kept watch through the lonely hours of the night.
Tanto dismounted and spoke to the man.

Speaker 5 (09:02):
You you get tired, Hu, you get tired. You find
sheep on back? He tried it.

Speaker 9 (09:09):
They can't get around and look for him.

Speaker 5 (09:11):
You' even got my dog. Let the ornery snake come
and tied me. No, you wait, engine, I want to
send word. I can't leave the sheep. I wanna let
my boss know him off white her.

Speaker 4 (09:36):
While Tanto raced on toward the distant camp of the
lone Ranger, Amos Franklin finally agreed to a deal with
Scar Gordon, the outlaw. We find Scar one hour later
as he draws his horse to a halt at a
camp and a dryer royal. His friend Vince Bennett and
the rest of his gang are awaiting him.

Speaker 5 (09:54):
Nae, Scar, how'd you make our goodness to be expected? Hey?
You mean waker? And now I got some word for you.

Speaker 9 (10:02):
I told the boys you've been coming here before daybreak.

Speaker 7 (10:04):
Angelett the man get some sleep, plenty of time to sleep.
When we get a cash. He's some boys, I got
a job lined there. You got Vince spending. He lined
up with us. He proved downright valuable because he can
go and come as he down pleases in the town,
being as he ain't wanted by the law.

Speaker 5 (10:22):
Want a bothered? What good lad to us?

Speaker 7 (10:23):
I listened to him, and you're savvy. Amos Franklin heims
to start a range war.

Speaker 5 (10:29):
That henry sheep hudder, Well, he maybe is, but he
deals in quality sheep. Every one of them quitters he
is is valuable, he's a sheepman.

Speaker 8 (10:38):
Nonetheless, take it easy, boys, and hear this came through.

Speaker 5 (10:41):
He wants to hire a lot of us to fight
for him.

Speaker 9 (10:44):
He's got a plenty of money to spend.

Speaker 5 (10:45):
Boys.

Speaker 7 (10:45):
Let he know we clean out the cattleman. We no
longer have to be a fear of showing ourselves in town.
You see what I'm getting.

Speaker 5 (10:53):
At the chance to wipe all the common out and
get paid for it.

Speaker 7 (10:56):
Huh, and top it off by taking over their cattle
scar Is that what you plan to do?

Speaker 5 (11:01):
Why not?

Speaker 8 (11:02):
But if that's what it was after, why didn't you
just attack the common in the first place.

Speaker 7 (11:06):
Yeah, I haven't called out the army the wipers out.
They can still do it, sure, but you don't think
they will, do you well? Listen means a calmon and
likely calling troops to help put a pack of outlaws
on the run.

Speaker 5 (11:19):
But it had hurt their pride too deep. If they
call out the soldiers to lick a sheep hurder, why Sadly.

Speaker 7 (11:25):
Even if they won, they never hear the end of it.
It'd be the laugh and start to everyone in the
West calling troops to licking on res sheepmen.

Speaker 5 (11:35):
Likely pretty slick, I'd call it. That's the best scheme
I ever heard of.

Speaker 8 (11:39):
You like the scheme, boys, You get Amos Franklin's cat,
everyone's cattle in the halls as well.

Speaker 5 (11:45):
We just take over the country that's hit. And when
we're finished with a cowman, and we'll drive the sheepman out.
How's that?

Speaker 10 (11:53):
When do we start?

Speaker 5 (11:53):
Cryet? Boys?

Speaker 9 (11:54):
No?

Speaker 5 (11:54):
Quiet, don't let me finish. Go ahead, let's hear the rest.

Speaker 7 (11:57):
We stay right here all day tomorrow and give means
a brandon's a chance to rile the cawman after you see,
and the morrow night a fun begins.

Speaker 4 (12:16):
In the meantime, Tunder urged his horse with utmost speed
throughout the whole of the night, but it was daybreak
before he reached the woodland clearing where the Lone Ranger
was camped, miles from Amos Prankman's branch. O.

Speaker 7 (12:30):
God didn't look for you to be here so soon,
and there's plenty from a trouble range war any outlaw
near town? What do you mean?

Speaker 5 (12:36):
Then start pank you come past, tell me get him
a silver? All right? So I'll get silver ready to
ride while you talk.

Speaker 4 (12:42):
Here's over here, help you here here all right, tiddle,
I'll tell me what's going on.

Speaker 5 (13:00):
Scar Gordon and his outlaws.

Speaker 4 (13:01):
They're going to be hired by the Sheepburder, not right,
and they're going to carry the fight to the cattlemen
steady soon right. Those cattlemen will never tolerate any opposition
from Amos Franklin and the outlaws will see to it
that the fight is anything but fair.

Speaker 5 (13:14):
Gordon gang is in this. What they can get out
of it.

Speaker 4 (13:16):
Sheep man pay him can They will get more than
cash before they finished. They have watched out all the cattlemen.

Speaker 11 (13:21):
Huh.

Speaker 4 (13:21):
They probably won't attack today. They'll wait till after dark tonight.
It'll take us almost all day to get there too.
Those men attack tonight. They'll catch the cattlemen unprepared. Oh
that I see their plan, Tato. Tonight almost every common
will be in town celebrating payday. They'll have all the
guns checked with the sheriff. That will be an ideal
time for the outlaws to strike. What what we do

(13:44):
will think it over Kimo Sabi while we ride Hi.
The curtain falls on the first act of tonight's Lone
Ranger drama before the next exciting scenes.

Speaker 5 (14:04):
Peace permittes to pause for just a few moments.

Speaker 9 (14:18):
Now to continue our story.

Speaker 4 (14:19):
He will recall that in the first act of tonight's
Lone Ranger drama, the outlaw Scar Gordon convinced Amos Franklin
that the cattlemen of the district planned to destroy the
sheep raiser's flock. Franklin hired Gordon and his men to
defend him, but Gordon's plan included more than that. He
hoped to run the cattlemen off the range and seize
their herds. That accomplished, he expected to turn on Franklin

(14:42):
and steal his sheep. Tonto, however, had overheard the conversation
between Franklin and Gordon, and he repeated the facts to
the Lone Ranger. Our nextcene opens in the office of
Sheriff Conway of Mariposa. The sheriff is speaking with a
rancher bull McPherson.

Speaker 6 (14:57):
You may be the biggest cattleman this side of us, McPherson,
but you're not gonna bulldoze me. They're driving frank run
away from here.

Speaker 5 (15:04):
But here. If he's ruined the range for cattle kids,
you see this, well, what of it? What of it.
That's what I said.

Speaker 6 (15:11):
If the north range of town is ruined and it
ain't no good to you, isn't no all right, then
why don't you let him stay there? You know your
critters wouldn't go near none of the water on the
north range.

Speaker 5 (15:22):
Now thanks to them on rein no good sheep.

Speaker 6 (15:25):
Yes, So now if we drive Amos away, what's he
gonna do? He'll just move somewheres else and spoil that land,
won't he?

Speaker 5 (15:32):
There oughta be a log in sheep. Well, we ain't
no log in him, so we gotta tolerate him.

Speaker 6 (15:37):
You got a plenty of lands south of town, and
so's every other common stay there and be content and
leave Amos.

Speaker 5 (15:44):
Do the same, as long as he don't move south.

Speaker 6 (15:47):
Well, if he makes any play to spread out south
with them long haired sheep isn't, then I'll see he's
put back what he belongs. And a promise, it's a
sure enough promise. Now, then a's to the shindig tonight.

Speaker 5 (16:00):
You're a big party. I reckon mind that all your
wadies check their shooting nds. Ain't they always done so
when they come to town? Maybe so, But the fact
remains at the last pay day. There was some shooting
in the cafe, not by my boys. Well, there ain't
to be none to night, savvy. I'll tell the boys, sir, Hi, Vince,

(16:21):
what are you coming to my office for? Ain't seeking lawyer?
A Vince?

Speaker 9 (16:25):
Oh, I ain't come here with some news for you?

Speaker 5 (16:27):
Yeah?

Speaker 9 (16:28):
That cheap hurder amos Franklin.

Speaker 5 (16:29):
Now, don't you say you want him drove out? You
ain't no cattle to worry about, have you. No, ain't
been so easy to borrow a hunker rope with a
cow tied to one ends inside. He'll go with the
law around here, has it?

Speaker 9 (16:41):
Can't You never forget a man's mistake.

Speaker 6 (16:43):
I sort of keep it in the back of my mind, Vince,
just to make sure that mistake ain't made again.

Speaker 8 (16:51):
No, you gotta tell me Franklin is getting to a
dog on, ambitious for his own good.

Speaker 5 (16:55):
Yeah, he tried to hire me you why would any
man want to hire you for?

Speaker 8 (17:00):
Vims to help him handle sheep. He aims to be
moving southward. All he's gotta do is to let them
sheep of his drink from springs on the cattle range.

Speaker 9 (17:07):
And said range is done for as far as cattle
is concerned.

Speaker 5 (17:10):
Why on Reno, give me back my shooting nine, not
your fat change my plans. I ain't going to the
shindig at the cafe. I got business to take care of.
Shut down the.

Speaker 8 (17:20):
Over goot, the loot that ain't all Sheriff Amos is boasted,
and he'll show the cattleman where the head in.

Speaker 5 (17:25):
It's hard time, he got del fitzh The.

Speaker 9 (17:27):
Ain't no hurry bull, he said.

Speaker 8 (17:29):
He didn't figure he'd be ready to have me start
to work for another week or so, he said, who's that?

Speaker 5 (17:34):
You never heard his voice before? Miss kwait dogs? Who
are you? You'll needed to arrest the killer Franklin's place?
O Amos, Franklin leaping catfish? You mean to say he's
killed a man? Come and say for yourself who's he
done for? Bring a posse and come along. He'll soon
be doc. I'm riding with you, dog God.

Speaker 6 (17:50):
If we can throw that critter into the calaboose, it's
gonna save no end of trouble.

Speaker 5 (17:53):
I'll go too. I'm left him time for you. I'm
all set, Hey, pep, bet the there. We got a
head for Franklin. Swait, Keep that mask man covered? Who
is he don't know, but I am to find out.
Rank here. You better take your mask off, do your
dirty first, and if you want to investigate me, you
can do something like you will wait for you.

Speaker 10 (18:10):
Hold on, he said, he's running away.

Speaker 6 (18:14):
Cut them baby, he's an unmore. Should I take a shine?
Oh you're blaming pool. You can't shoot a man for
being masked. Get your horse and chase him. Come on, now,
let's travel it, Sam Hill, find the by and bye.

Speaker 5 (18:26):
Get up.

Speaker 6 (18:51):
You made that trippment record times that white horse, the
mask man riding.

Speaker 5 (18:55):
I'm in and we're right after you. Guys.

Speaker 9 (18:58):
I never figured Dames would shoot a him.

Speaker 5 (19:00):
Well, it is a friend. How do you do as
you're a prisoner? What do you gotta say for yourself? Amous?
Why I speaker?

Speaker 10 (19:07):
I reckon? I ain't no use of my saying anything.
I ain't no chance to get a Juria cattleman.

Speaker 5 (19:12):
And the reitionship. He's played right into our hands. That
insur in the man your shop. I didn't shoot him, then,
who did? I don't know? Donald came here last night,
didn't he?

Speaker 10 (19:20):
Yes that he was traveling. I give him a place
to sleep and some food. Let me rid away, Let
me approve.

Speaker 5 (19:25):
He rode away. Well, I that is anyone here with
you at the time.

Speaker 10 (19:30):
Yeah, Scar Gordon, he was scarboardon. Well that outlaw doing
he Why didn't you capture him and get the reward? Oh, Jans,
there ain't no use. Nothing I can say will help me.

Speaker 5 (19:42):
Hey, what would have Bence Bedley for her?

Speaker 10 (19:44):
He just went outside there he is brought in his horse.

Speaker 5 (19:48):
Don't even go. We gotta take the prisoner to jail.
Come on, name is Jents. I squear.

Speaker 10 (19:52):
I didn't have no hand in mother. I don't know
a thing about it.

Speaker 5 (19:55):
After the chart and jury.

Speaker 7 (19:57):
And the hangman, here's where one sheep burder gets done
away with good and legal.

Speaker 5 (20:02):
It's to bear the wrist of meat spunk enough to
do a little shooting.

Speaker 4 (20:24):
Vince Bennett left the group at Franklin's home and rode
swiftly to a point near town, where Gordon and his
men were gathered.

Speaker 5 (20:29):
Sc what's the matter? What you were supposed to do
in town? Yeah?

Speaker 9 (20:35):
Only they gotta change things.

Speaker 5 (20:36):
What do you mean that?

Speaker 9 (20:37):
Blame pool Pranklin?

Speaker 5 (20:38):
Listening here? Bennett?

Speaker 7 (20:40):
He was to stop around the Sheriff's office and get
the idea planning that Amos Franklin aimed the transfer.

Speaker 5 (20:45):
Sheep to the south range.

Speaker 7 (20:46):
That's what I didn't And he was to tell them
and that he didn't figure out doing that same right
away I told him that well of them in at
the shin Nig didn that we figured her attack.

Speaker 9 (20:55):
Let me tell you, Amos, Franklin is in jail.

Speaker 5 (20:58):
What don't he in jail her? Why don't you?

Speaker 7 (21:00):
Fellows and minute, let me give the true facts. You
say Franklin is in jail, that's right. When was he
took there?

Speaker 8 (21:10):
Just a few minutes ago? I went to his place
with the sheriff and bull McPherson and a dipathy.

Speaker 9 (21:14):
What did he do? He kilt an engine?

Speaker 5 (21:16):
Killed an engine. I didn't think that Chief Hurd had
pumped enough in your jail for murder. That's right, it's
your fine state of affairs.

Speaker 9 (21:23):
Don't you see? We can't attack now.

Speaker 8 (21:25):
We can't make the common think that Amos has figured
on expanding the sheepland.

Speaker 7 (21:29):
With him in jail for murder, oh sure not.

Speaker 9 (21:32):
Besides that he won't be able to pay us.

Speaker 5 (21:34):
It ain't so much the money he was to pay
the cows. We figured on get you.

Speaker 8 (21:39):
But now it's the same as if we attacked the
common as a band of outlaws.

Speaker 5 (21:41):
Don't you see him? May think?

Speaker 7 (21:43):
Shut your trap a minute, won't you sure the person
and the rest of the cattleman don't know that we
ain't working for Amous Franklin.

The outlaws moved into town according to that change's plans.
They made their way in group of two and three
of the void, being noticed and took advantage of the
covering shadows of the night. We see Scar, Gordon and
Vince as they approach their destination.

There's the calaboose, a dark and quiet sure, yeah, I
think our man's there, Sure he is?

Speaker 11 (23:11):
Where else would he be well, then the cattleman might
have lynched him now. In the first place, they'd be
more excitement or anything like that. What's going on and
seems so second place, Cheff wouldn't tolerate that. Maybe you're
right at that he's in there right now. It will
be a cinch to get him out and we can
go ahead with the plans and the common they call

(23:31):
it a ringe war.

Speaker 5 (23:33):
Instead of an outlaw attack. And see me sure, wait'll.

Speaker 11 (23:38):

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist

It’s 1996 in rural North Carolina, and an oddball crew makes history when they pull off America’s third largest cash heist. But it’s all downhill from there. Join host Johnny Knoxville as he unspools a wild and woolly tale about a group of regular ‘ol folks who risked it all for a chance at a better life. CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist answers the question: what would you do with 17.3 million dollars? The answer includes diamond rings, mansions, velvet Elvis paintings, plus a run for the border, murder-for-hire-plots, and FBI busts.
