made a number of trips to town investigating the strange
behavior of Zeke's soldiers. We see him now in the
well concealed camp he shares with Tato, discussing the situation
with his companion.
Speaker 3 (11:29):
Everyone's looking for us, so we must be mighty careful

Speaker 4 (13:35):
The curtain falls on the first act of Tonight's Lone
Ranger drama. Before the next exciting scenes, please permit us
to pause for just a few moments.
Speaker 5 (14:02):
Now I'll continue our story.
Speaker 1 (14:04):
You will recall that in the first act of Tonight's
Lone Ranger Drama, Zeke's saltis not only refused the aid
of the masked man and Hanto when his home was burning,
but later accused them of having set fire to the building.
The Lone Ranger remained in the district to learn the
reason for Salter's action, and during the course of his investigation,
he discovered that a man from the east was somehow
involved in the strange affair. Our next scene opens in
(14:27):
the Stephens home. Missus Stevens, her Son, Dick and Nancy
are present.
Speaker 8 (14:32):
Uncle Zeke is hard to understand sometimes, but he's really awful,
good Dick.
Speaker 7 (14:36):
Maybe it's according to how you look at it.
Speaker 4 (14:38):
Now, Dick.
Speaker 10 (14:39):
The only reason Zeke won't let Nancy have a lot
of company. Is because he don't want her to marry
till she comes into her own money.
Speaker 7 (14:45):
Maybe so, but just the same, I'll admit son.
Speaker 10 (14:48):
Zeke is mighty curious at times, but all the same name.
Speaker 8 (14:52):
I don't know what I'd have done if it hadn't
been for him. He's been just like a father to me.
Speaker 7 (14:56):
He could well afford to be. Ain't he had the
handling of all the money you'll come into.
Speaker 8 (15:00):
Well, they don't mean anything, Dick, t ain't his money.
Speaker 10 (15:03):
I can't see why Zeke wouldn't come here and stay
till they got his new house built. My sakes, we
got more room here than we can use.
Speaker 8 (15:10):
Suppose he wanted to be closer to the new house
is building.
Speaker 7 (15:13):
Likely, Well that's from me. I'm glad he ain't here.
This is the first chance I ever had to really
talk with you, Nancy, Dick, you might be.
Speaker 10 (15:20):
Better off haunting them too.
Speaker 8 (15:21):
That fired Zeke's.
Speaker 7 (15:22):
House, half hearted. Mall, guys, we just about scarred the
whole neighborhood for miles in all directions.
Speaker 8 (15:27):
I wonder what they'd do such a thing for.
Speaker 7 (15:29):
Do you know, Nancy, it's my notion that they come
intending to abduct you.
Speaker 8 (15:33):
Oh Dick, you don't think.
Speaker 7 (15:35):
Yes, sir ee, that's a sheriff's notion, as well as mine.
Speaker 10 (15:38):
And Nancy not being there. They were so hop and
mad they set the house afire.
Speaker 7 (15:42):
Yeah, and maybe Zeke had some inkling of that and
sent you to spend some time with Mare.
Speaker 8 (15:47):
I wonder who that be.
Speaker 7 (15:48):
I'll go see who is it?
Speaker 8 (15:55):
Come on in, uncles he I'm glad to see if.
Speaker 5 (15:58):
Any stranger's been around here?
Speaker 7 (16:00):
Not around here?
Speaker 5 (16:01):
Is he?
Speaker 4 (16:01):
And you ain't seen nothing of no strangers? Not a thing?
Speaker 8 (16:04):
Why what's the matter, Zeke? You look all head out?
Speaker 5 (16:07):
I am what's the probable of plenty? See here? Nancy?
Speaker 6 (16:10):
If anyone I don't care who it is, comes here,
don't let them see you. Name's my orders. Nick will
listen to me.
Speaker 7 (16:16):
I'm a listener. Go ahead.
Speaker 5 (16:17):
See you claim to care something about Nancy?
Speaker 7 (16:20):
I do?
Speaker 4 (16:20):
All right?
Speaker 6 (16:21):
Then you pay strict heed to what I tell you.
If anyone comes here that you don't know, pull a
gun on him and keep him away?
Speaker 7 (16:27):
Is the scheme on the way to abduct Nancy?
Speaker 5 (16:29):
Maybe it's home.
Speaker 4 (16:30):
Yeah, that's it.
Speaker 5 (16:32):
I reckon. They must be Who's that? That's what I'm
calling to you.
Speaker 8 (16:36):
He's riding down here mighty fast too.
Speaker 4 (16:39):

Speaker 9 (16:40):
O me come on the run.
Speaker 4 (16:43):
We got the man. Man you have if the shere bore?
The man's holding him and the injured at the point
of a gone.
Speaker 8 (16:48):
Down in town, and you got the one that gets.
Speaker 4 (16:49):

Speaker 5 (16:50):

Speaker 4 (16:51):
Good work climb. I'll be right with you.
Speaker 5 (16:53):
Where's my gun? Bill?
Speaker 7 (16:54):
I don't know where you leave your things?
Speaker 8 (16:55):
Son?
Speaker 4 (16:56):
Here, you don't need no horstacks.
Speaker 9 (16:58):
Just down.
Speaker 4 (16:59):
I won't take no.
Speaker 5 (16:59):
Time to get to see the face of that mask man.
Speaker 4 (17:02):
You see the injured both ark times.
Speaker 6 (17:05):

Speaker 6 (17:30):
Where's that mask man? Where's the engine? We've been waiting

Speaker 5 (17:35):
Earn't do that right now? Can you do it?
Speaker 9 (17:37):

Speaker 11 (17:37):

Speaker 5 (17:37):
I should say I can.
Speaker 4 (17:39):
Got him in a room right upstairs, no hotel.
Speaker 5 (17:41):
Up these stairs? He can't you got him tired? I
should say we have ain't got loose?
Speaker 7 (17:46):
Then not a chance.
Speaker 4 (17:47):
Did you take his mask off?
Speaker 5 (17:49):
Not yet.
Speaker 6 (17:50):
We wanted to seek to see him with a mask on.
That's the way you've seen him with the fire. Ain't
to see her hearing his mask. And when I seen
him there, all right, then you gotta look at him
with a man.
Speaker 4 (18:00):
Then we'll take it off and see just who the
trigger is.
Speaker 11 (18:03):
Uh, here's the room. He comes into town as big
as life. This guy is like an easternner. But we
was wise do what he was doing.
Speaker 5 (18:12):
He's seen the engine going up to his room.
Speaker 4 (18:14):
Open the door. Here's the chef.
Speaker 5 (18:17):
Now you make him heap, big mistake.
Speaker 4 (18:21):

Speaker 5 (18:21):
We made no mistake. Engine. Take a look.
Speaker 4 (18:24):

Speaker 7 (18:30):
You've made a mistake.
Speaker 5 (18:31):
Take his mask off.
Speaker 4 (18:32):
I'll do that. Chef there, you've.
Speaker 7 (18:35):
Made a mistake. Man, I tell you I'm not the
man you want. I'm not an outlaw. I didn't set
fire to anyone's house.
Speaker 4 (18:41):
Worry.
Speaker 5 (18:42):
My name is Grant.
Speaker 7 (18:43):
I never saw this Indian before in my life.
Speaker 5 (18:45):
To the church.
Speaker 4 (18:46):
It's true.
Speaker 5 (18:47):

here without that mask and nobody would recognize you.
Speaker 4 (18:54):
Huh.
Speaker 7 (18:55):
I didn't know a thing about the fire until you
told me about it tonight, Sheriff.
Speaker 4 (18:58):
Then what was the engine sneaking of the stairs into
your room?
Speaker 5 (19:01):
First?
Speaker 4 (19:01):
I don't know.
Speaker 7 (19:02):
He came into my room, held the gun on me
and made me put on this maskt hat Then you

Speaker 6 (19:12):
Put him in jail, and it'd be better put him
in jail until we hang him, I said, prior to
my house.
Speaker 7 (19:19):
I take it your name is Salters.
Speaker 5 (19:20):
That's my name, all right, Zeke's soldiers, what's it to you?
Speaker 7 (19:24):
My name is Grant, and I'm here from the law
firm of Grant and Simmons and Saint Louis. Does that
mean anything to you?
Speaker 5 (19:29):
Not a dog gone thing? You got anything more to say?
Speaker 6 (19:32):
Grant?
Speaker 7 (19:33):
I'll say what I have until my trial. I suppose
I'll have a trial.
Speaker 4 (19:37):
You will get a trial, all right.
Speaker 6 (19:39):
Every man gets a trial before it gets hung. But
remember this, Grant, whatever your name is, out here, we
hang me in preferring a man's house and home. You're servy.
Speaker 4 (19:50):
I'll say no more until my trial.
Speaker 1 (20:12):
The sheriff arrested Tanto in the Eastern RM and took
them to jail. But in the meantime, the lone ranger
rode swiftly to the Stephens place. There he dismounted and
entered the building without warning.
Speaker 6 (20:23):
My sis, A lot.
Speaker 5 (20:26):
You do, Nancy. I want to speak to you. Please
listen to me.
Speaker 8 (20:28):
How'd you get away? They had your tie?
Speaker 3 (20:30):
No, there was another man who was tied, a man
named Grant who came here from Saint Louis.
Speaker 8 (20:34):
What do you want? You get fired our house?
Speaker 3 (20:36):
You're wrong, Nancy. Everyone believes that. That's why no one
will follow through and learn the true story. What you
mean your uncle sets fired to his own house.
Speaker 8 (20:43):
It's not true.
Speaker 3 (20:44):
Tot and I were there. We try to help him
save some of the things in the house, but he
didn't want us to. There was something in there he
wanted destroyed.
Speaker 10 (20:51):
No, No, you can't come here and hint such things
about Zeke Salters.
Speaker 3 (20:54):
Total will be in jail with mister Grant's I want
him to learn just why Grant came here. Meanwhile, I
want to know what was in that house.
Speaker 8 (21:02):
Everything we owned.
Speaker 5 (21:03):
You have a lot of money in your own name,
haven't you. Yes, would Zeke take that money?
Speaker 8 (21:07):
We couldn't. He has to give it all over to
me with an accountant as soon as I'm of age next.
Speaker 5 (21:13):
Week, as soon as that. Yes, that's something to know.
Speaker 10 (21:16):
Look here, mister, you can't get away with this sort
of high handed proceeding.
Speaker 8 (21:20):
You can't come here masked and ask a lot of questions.
Steven to be coming back sooner. You better not be
here when he comes.

him in.
Speaker 4 (23:45):
What sort of trial is it? Tell you your story,
mister Grant.

I'm from Saint Louis representing my firm, Grant and Simmons.
Some time ago, Zeke's Sauters adopted Nancy Randall and he
was in charge of the estate left by her father.
Trure I was. We wrote him several times as the
attorneys who prepared James Randall's will. Salters finally replied, refusing
to give us satisfactory accounting of the estate.
Speaker 4 (24:11):
You can't learning your business, That's all for now, Grant. Zeke.
Did you write Grant.
Speaker 12 (24:17):
Say that Nancy wouldn't come of age for another year?
I did, and it's true. All right now, you can't
be called on to give an account until she comes
of age, can you?
Speaker 5 (24:27):
No?

You know, blame well, I can't.
Speaker 12 (24:30):

trying to frame you. If you've been honest, you can
a com finance this case right now, just as where
you're in a year from now. If you ain't been honest,
then it's pretty good proof that you set the fire
to destroy things that John Grant, none existing.
Speaker 4 (25:30):
Grant, set the fire, your own words.
