Speaker 1 (00:17):
A fiery horse with a speed of light, accloud of
dust in a hardy.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Hie old Silver.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
A lone Ranger, a phantom figure of the planes, rode
(01:27):
the trails of long ago to bring justice to the oppressed.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
Where he came from no one ever knew.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
But his heroic deeds were recorded in the memories of
the people of Seven Saints. Even today, the cowboys sit
around the campfire and relate yearns of his daring, of
his speed on the draw, when he meted out punishment
to the lawless of his great horse, Silver, the fastest
the West has ever known. History does not record as
many adventures, but the West will always remember the shout
(01:54):
which has come down through the years. Alone Ranger ride again.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
Hold why horse in the trail ahead? Quere hurryal war for.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
Tro The lone ranger urged the great horse Silver down
the trail toward Wells City, a typical rancher's community of
the pioneer days. Ben Bush was the wealthiest man in town.
(02:28):
He owned the bank, controlled vast sections of range land
in the territory, received dividends from most of the other
commercial enterprises. But for all his wealth and power, he
was thoroughly disliked. He ruled well City and the surrounding
district with an iron hand, and it was suspected, though
never proved, that he had built his position upon a
(02:48):
disregard of honesty and justice. It was certain that the
sheriff of the county, Pete Crowley, obeyed his commands without question,
and the law man's reputation had suffered in consequence. In
the first scene of tonight's Lone Ranger drama, we see
Ben Bush speaking with Crowley in the cafe. They are
seated in one corner of the large room and are
careful that they're not overheard by the rest.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
Of the crowd. Tell you, I've done all I could.
I ain't my fault.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
Time too was rescued. I'd hoped like alibis, but they ain't.
A man alive can do more now. Done ain't done
good enough?
Speaker 2 (03:22):
Crowley.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
That's the point. But I can't just remember I'm the
man put you in office. I ain't forgot that I'm
the man can get you out office. I know, mister Bush,
but what more can I do than what I am
the sheriff?
Speaker 2 (03:34):
Means arrest and crooks and garden.
Speaker 5 (03:36):
I'm doing it.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
Sure, that's what I've done. That's what I've been doing
all along.
Speaker 4 (03:40):
I ain't ask you to give evidence a Ginham. I've
done that myself, gone the trial and been town guilty.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
Heah.
Speaker 4 (03:48):
But twice when they was all set to get hung,
they was rescued by some mask man on a white horse.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
But he rides light lightning the way he handles him.
Speaker 4 (03:57):
Two gunsyres a man hasn't a chance to hold like alibis.
I told you that before, Crowley. Hey, Alibi and mister Bush,
you know as well as I do that white horse
is a devil in four legs.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
A rider, ain't he.
Speaker 4 (04:12):
Had it all covered within six guns of years before
we could say Jack Robinson. Then you should get some deputies.
That's quicker on the drawer, I tell you, Crowley. I
don't like the way things is going here.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
Who is that mass man in the how? I don't know,
like as not.
Speaker 4 (04:25):
He's an outlaw, sure, wearing a mask, lank he durs
a Mersby. Then why don't arrest him, get him tried
and hunt.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
But you can't find him. I'm hitting me in hunting.
It's a true.
Speaker 4 (04:37):
I've had parties out ever since Leven Frisbee was saved.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
From the hangman's rope. Ain't even found tracks, have you?
Oh we're still got man out rock.
Speaker 4 (04:46):
First thing, you know, my enemies will get teamed up
against me. Then now they are ruin this tower. Maybe
that's what's har figuring on nor mister Bush, you know
that ain't the case. I don't trust anyone Crowley, but
that's why I got where I am, and well who
you can trust me? I didn't want you ask me
to ever since I got a office. He'll let two
(05:07):
of my enemies escape like it's not the Onemerton jail.
Now we'll be rescued by that masked man.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
Of hor his hung you won't. You can bet on that.
We've got guards at the jail night and day.
Speaker 4 (05:18):
Reckon, we better go down there and make sure he's
still locked up. Shucks, you'll be there, neither of the others,
which too, he was ready to hang Arsony needs become
a protrayalty. We're gonna take a look anyhow. Come on,
well you wander it need no use if you take
my word burn still there. I'm beginning to think your
(05:40):
word don't amount to much. We should put more trust
in me, mister bushes a couple more escapes in this town,
and you're going to be out in the office. Crowley,
mind what I tell you?
Speaker 2 (05:50):
Well, come on, let's go to the jail.
Speaker 4 (05:54):
Ali president, the sight o who that mask man is
and what he's doing around here?
Speaker 2 (06:06):
So dis be an enemy or yours? Mister Bush.
Speaker 4 (06:09):
My enemy is hanged, you know that, except when you
will get tell us right, or we can leave the
horses here at to hitch ragged ting far down to
the jail hamp. You know, mister Bush, I've been thinking, well,
you're sort of dissatisfied with the way I've been.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
Doing my job.
Speaker 4 (06:26):
Why shouldn't I be Two men I figured to get
rid of it this time are out free somewhere. Well,
you ain't the only one that ain't satisfied with things, is.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
The stand What you mean?
Speaker 4 (06:38):
I've been thinking I ought to get more money, more money?
Speaker 2 (06:41):
Yep. If you had an honest sheriff ben here.
Speaker 4 (06:44):
You wouldn't stand a chance of getting away with the
things you've been doing. Yeah, well get this, Crowley. Anytime
you get tired working from me, or anytime I get
tired of the way you do your job, there's a
jail cell waiting to hold you you mean, I mean
I got evidence to put you in jail, same as
I got it against my other enemies. Hey, look over
by the jail a white horse. If that's the same man,
(07:09):
use your gun dropping get the two of them.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
They're getting to the saddle.
Speaker 4 (07:15):
He never figured he try and get last away before
his trial. Three of my enemies out loose, and all say,
by the same man, Crowley, I'm beginning to think your
scheme and things again. Man.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
In spite of the efforts of push and crawling, the
lone ranger had affected the rescue of each of the
three men framed by the pair. After his last exploit,
the masked man returned to his camp with Steve Larson,
the third of the rescue prisoners, DUDDA.
Speaker 5 (08:01):
This is Steve Larson. I just helped him to escape
from jail. Oh, I don't say this at all.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
Who are you?
Speaker 4 (08:09):
I hope to be your friend, Larson? Want you bust
me out of the jail so you wouldn't be tried
and hung for murder.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
But they didn't have no evidence.
Speaker 4 (08:15):
Again me, they didn't have evidence against the other two men,
but both of them were ready to hang.
Speaker 5 (08:19):
You're the man that rescued them. Yes, Tuller and I. Well,
they now safe for the time being. Just what are
you up to?
Speaker 2 (08:25):
Mister?
Speaker 5 (08:26):
What's the mask for? I brought you here to ask
questions of you, not to answer yours. I suppose I should.
Speaker 4 (08:32):
Be dogged one grateful to here, but I ain't.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
I'm not asking for your gratitude.
Speaker 4 (08:36):
Like I tried and freed, i'd been all right, But
as it stands now, I'm an outlaw. Yes, my wife
is in town, show's my kid. I can't never go back.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
To see them. I'm busting out of the jail. Is
the same as confession, Mike guilt. You were accused of murder, Yeah,
but I I could approve my innocence.
Speaker 4 (08:52):
Oh, the night Sam Turner was killed, I was at
home with Mary and little Jerry.
Speaker 5 (08:57):
That wouldn't clear you, Larson. Remember Ben Bush is the
as you that's scheming pole cat.
Speaker 4 (09:02):
Some day he's gonna get all that's common to him.
Speaker 2 (09:04):
That's what I'm working for.
Speaker 4 (09:06):
You know about him, not all that I.
Speaker 2 (09:07):
Want to know. You tell me about him. He's got
so much money.
Speaker 4 (09:10):
He does whatever he durned pleases.
Speaker 2 (09:12):
I've been told that you had money in his bank,
didn't you.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
All my savings about three thousand dollars.
Speaker 5 (09:18):
That's just the point. Frisbee and Slade had their money
in his bank. That's why they were framed for murder.
Speaker 4 (09:24):
See do you mean to say they want guilty of murders? No?
Speaker 2 (09:27):
But the evidence why four men seen him do the shooting.
Those four men were paid to tell the jury that story.
Why Bush? Yes, what's his game?
Speaker 4 (09:36):
Marson Bush takes the money people put in his bank,
steals it. Yes, Then before the money can be claimed,
the arrangers for the owner to get into trouble, and
Sheriff Crowley works hand in glove with him. See do
you mean to tell me I had to face what
Frisbee and Slade did. Yes, that they have been men
in the stand and swear they've seen me shoot a man.
Speaker 5 (09:54):
That's just what would have happened. Why you old Bush's
schemer in a polcat. What do you know about him?
Speaker 4 (10:00):
I know he never gives a man a chance to
pay him a mortgage if he hasn't a little late.
Speaker 2 (10:03):
Yes, he swindles in cheats wherever he can.
Speaker 4 (10:06):
I always thought he's stuck to the letter of the law.
Speaker 2 (10:09):
No, he doesn't even do that. What am I to do. Now,
I want you to help me. How.
Speaker 5 (10:14):
I'm going to ask you the same question I asked
Slade and Frisbee. Will you stake your freedom on a
chance that you might hang rather than spend the rest
of your life as an outlaw. I don't savey as
you stand right now, you're safely away from the jail.
You can leave my camp and go where you want to,
but you'll always be hunted by the law for a
crime you didn't do. I say that if you will
help me and risk being captured, there's a chance to
(10:34):
put Ben Bush and Sheriff Crowley where they belong, and
then you can return the town of free men.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
Life wouldn't mean much to me away from my wife
and kid. Then I can count on you.
Speaker 4 (10:43):
Yes, I suppose Frisbee and Slave decided difference being as ain't.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
Around here, But I'll go in with you. They've made
the same choice.
Speaker 4 (10:51):
Yeah, Gosh, and the four of us are working together.
Speaker 2 (10:54):
There are five of us, counting my friend Tador. Oh.
Speaker 5 (10:56):
Yeah, Larson. From now on, don't ask questions, just do
what you're told and count on us.
Speaker 4 (11:02):
I never thought I'd trust a man that wore a mask.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
Stranger but there's.
Speaker 4 (11:05):
Something about your style that makes me like him. Trust you,
I'm taking your orders from now on.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
The lone Ranger had a definite purpose in mind when
he freed the three men Crowley had imprisoned. In the meantime,
the sheriff and his posse scoured the country in search
of the masked man and his companions, but without success.
The hunt continued for several days. Bush became incensed over
the delay. At length, the banker approached Crowley in the
cafe and spoke heatedly.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
I could really make a clean up if I could
count on you at all.
Speaker 4 (11:48):
But I can't strabullcher do an all a man kin
do ain't found on one of the four men three
four including the mask man, and saved the others, Or
ain'ta baan to haunt him?
Speaker 2 (11:57):
Yeah? Sure we are.
Speaker 4 (11:58):
A stranger drifted into town today and open the big
account the bank.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
If only I could count on you, one next one
won't get away from me. I promise you that.
Speaker 4 (12:06):
Uh, there won't be a next one for some time.
It takes a while for me to line things up here.
I tell you, Taff confess he's been a shooting down
the road to people shooting.
Speaker 2 (12:14):
Come on quick, maybe you can get the humbry. Did
you see anything to the man that's done the shooting? Well?
Speaker 4 (12:18):
As a man still there, he's examining the redskinny shot.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
He's a stranger in town.
Speaker 4 (12:22):
Not mark him.
Speaker 2 (12:23):
Reckon, that's what he calls himself. Come on, sheriff, here's
a chance to do something on my way. I never mind,
I see you later. You won't need your horse. That's ah,
rots away. Listen to me wrestling.
Speaker 4 (12:35):
I don't runs so fast, I can't keep up where
I got it.
Speaker 2 (12:37):
Get there. It's a murder. If that man's name is Mark.
Speaker 4 (12:40):
Him, he's the one put a lot of money in
the bank.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
See what about? Here's your chance to make good on
one thing for me? What is it?
Speaker 4 (12:46):
Sees Mark him gets arrested in Hongy.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
You get arrested and hung all right, he's still there.
Mind whether he's guilty or not. Make him guilty? You mean,
I mean we can tame him, saying as we did
them others. What more? We got a real murder that
stark with.
Speaker 4 (13:01):
Yeh?
Speaker 2 (13:05):
See as the injurine's got the cash. Im Hey, you
don't make a bog you're under arrest. I'm not going
to run away. You're covered. It's you, assure it's me.
Oh you're mister Bushner.
Speaker 4 (13:17):
I am in this here a chef Crowley.
Speaker 2 (13:18):
Sure if I don't know who's done this shooting? But
what do you mean you don't know who done? You
done us? You're wrong there, mister Bush. I didn't have
no part of this. Don't give us none an ask.
You're guilly?
Speaker 4 (13:27):
Who else would shoot an engine? We ain't sure about, Chef.
We just heard the shot and run out. I did
the same thing. I heard the shooting, ran over and
the engine was there on the ground. I told this
army just sort of stand around and watch, and I
go fetch this.
Speaker 2 (13:39):
Yeah, he's the one killed the engine. All right? Take
his gun? Hold arm chair? Ain't you being a little
hasty boy? And it's my duty to warn you.
Speaker 4 (13:46):
Anything you say can be used to give you And
I'll touch him, Chriff, exactly right, mister Bush.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
I touched him, all right? All right? This was the
meaning of all this. Chef, what writes bush to search me?
He ain't alone? And is he many? Your to now?
Speaker 4 (14:00):
You don't seem to have much money on you, you know,
blamed well where all my money is?
Speaker 2 (14:03):
Push I put in your bank today in d you know,
blame well I did. I don't know nothing. That's sort
hold on there, that's my receipt.
Speaker 4 (14:10):
For the money you just said, nothing but a scrap
of paper.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
You must be low called mister mark him logo. That's
what I said.
Speaker 4 (14:16):
I don't recollect you putting any money in my bank.
Speaker 2 (14:18):
Of all the dirty lion coyotes. What sort of game
is this?
Speaker 4 (14:22):
Taking to jail's hair? He's an manner, all right, you
can't do this. I'm on Markham at banker saying I
ain't no money in this bank.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
I'm innocent. You can't call me guilty. I'm as innocent
as you are.
Speaker 4 (14:32):
Chair.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
You can't take me to jail.
Speaker 4 (14:34):
You ain't only going to jail, You're going to the
Hangman's news. We got evidence enough.
Speaker 2 (14:39):
To send you there.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
The curtain falls on the first act of our Lone
Ranger drama. Before the neat exciting themes, Please per minister
pause for just a few moments, and now on with
(15:50):
our story. You will recall that in the first act
of to Night's Lone Ranger Drama, the banker and the
Sheriff of Wells Didy framed three men for murder, only
to have them taken from jail by the mask man.
The accused men were large depositors and the bank owned
by Bush, who intended to steal their funds. A lone ranger, however,
had freed the convicted men as part of a plan
(16:11):
to bring Bush and Crowley to justice. Then a fourth
man into the story. His name was Markheim, and he
was discovered standing over an Indian he was accused of
killing that same afternoon. Markheim had placed a large sum
of money in the bank. Bush saw another opportunity to
frame an important depositor.
Speaker 4 (16:28):
Phull on our cheff. Can you listen to me for
just a minute or so? Oh talk, fairson?
Speaker 2 (16:34):
Where is it?
Speaker 4 (16:35):
You ain't even look to make sure the Redskins did
before you jail me for murder.
Speaker 2 (16:39):
We'll do the looking later. We don't take chances with murderers.
Thank you. Then make that banker give me back the
paper he took from me.
Speaker 4 (16:46):
It wasn't nothing but a scrap of paper.
Speaker 2 (16:48):
I showed it away. It's a receipt for the cash
I banged in your place today. Bush.
Speaker 4 (16:53):
I suppose now you'll claim I ain't no money there
and keep it for yourself. Tacking in cheff yep, Oh, Mark,
what the redskin.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
I'll go back and see if he's dead for sure? No,
you won't. What the mass mean again? You'll all stand
like where you are, Crowley.
Speaker 4 (17:07):
If he gets this prisoner away from you, I'll hagger
it out in town on the rail. I'm not after
your prisoner. I'm here to take the inding away with me.
See here, you you're under arrest and talk from a
man who doesn't reach for it. Doesn't shoot him, Crowley,
don't stand there like a sniveling coward.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
Drawn shoot out fast. I'm still holding one gun on you.
Now's your chance. Final.
Speaker 4 (17:26):
He's trying to heist the redskin on his horse.
Speaker 2 (17:29):
If you think you can complit, he's.
Speaker 4 (17:31):
Grease lighting with a gun, mister bors To, now's your
chance shoot shoot him. I'll try give him, Crowley, try again.
Speaker 2 (17:43):
He's still riding. Tain't no use.
Speaker 4 (17:45):
Worse, he's hurt of sight in the dark. That horse
he's riding's grease lightning. What did he want?
Speaker 2 (17:52):
The dead engine? Fer don't ask me?
Speaker 4 (17:55):
Well see that you don't let the prisoner get away?
Blast at all, Crowley, don't let him get.
Speaker 1 (18:21):
The Lone Ranger made no attempt to rescue the Sheriff's
latest prisoner. Instead, he and Santo rode swiftly to their camp.
There they were met by the three fugitives who had
agreed to assist in carrying out his plans.
Speaker 2 (18:35):
Here we are, so, how did it come out? What
happened thing? What did you do?
Speaker 5 (18:38):
Everything worked out justin we hoped. They didn't even examine
Toddle to see if he'd been shot enough.
Speaker 2 (18:42):
Can you beat that? It's just like I said, The
sheriffs are crooking, so is Bush.
Speaker 4 (18:46):
Not only that they made sure to get the bank
deposits slip away from Markheim Bush down that didn't he yes,
and the sheriff permitted it. That means Markheim will be
slated to hang and he won't have a chance of
getting away, not unless the mask man gets him away
like he done us. We're going to let mark Time
go on trial, and when that trial comes up, the
sheriff and Ben Bush will have a surprise.
Speaker 1 (19:26):
The Lone Ranger had proved the dishonesty of the sheriff
and the banker beyond all possibility of doubt. In the meantime,
Markheim was put on trial. A jury was hastily summoned
and the evidence of a series of lying witnesses presented
to the court.
Speaker 4 (19:40):
And Markheim Droordy's gun and fired the redskin dropped dead.
Speaker 2 (19:45):
That's all I got to say, Jed, that man lies shirt.
You're out of order. Markheim, be quiet. But my gun
wasn't even fired. The sheriff can tell you that.
Speaker 4 (19:54):
How about that sheriff might have been fired, might not
have been The cartridges out without looking to.
Speaker 2 (20:02):
See your railroad me to the hangman's rope. That's what
you're doing.
Speaker 1 (20:14):
One after another, the witnesses swore the same story, Markhim,
they said had killed the Indian. But outside the courthouse,
a group of men, led by the Lone Ranger, watched
the progress of the trial with keen interest. We hear
the mask man as he addresses one of his companions, Frisbee.
Speaker 5 (20:34):
Yeah, those witnesses, the same ones who testified against you.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
Yes they are. They had plenty to say it. Kid
me too, the same men. Yeah, the dirty ranch. They're
all being paid for that, my bambush. Just wait, I'd
like to get in there and have my say. Not yet, Look,
the jury's going out now. Markim hasn't had his wool
say it. Wait until the jury comes in. It's strange.
What's Mark I'm going to do? Wait and watch? Give
(21:22):
ten the money hangs shucks. I wouldn't let one to
a thousand. He don't.
Speaker 4 (21:26):
He didn't get a square trial, not even a man to.
Speaker 2 (21:28):
Speak for him. No one gets a square trial in
this time.
Speaker 4 (21:31):
Sheriff himself is the biggest crookable. Don't let yourself get
here saying that there's a Jerry coming back, that Jerry
is a hang in the one. Let's have it quiet here,
order in the court. Here, Probably you're acting as clerk.
Go on and tend to business. Answer the jury. If
(21:52):
you reached a verdict, well one of you stand up
and tell her to the judge. We we fang the
pishoner guilty of murdering.
Speaker 2 (22:18):
Markham Letter stand up and face me shows I can
second you.
Speaker 4 (22:22):
I'll stand here first of all before you sends me, judge,
I've got something to say.
Speaker 2 (22:27):
Well make it short.
Speaker 4 (22:29):
In the first place, I'm charged the murdering a man
that's not even proved to be dead.
Speaker 5 (22:36):
In the second place, not one of those witnesses saw
the shooting. In the third place, my gun was not fired.
And in the fourth place, before I'm through, you're all
going to be sorry.
Speaker 2 (22:48):
You had so much to say. What's the meaning of
such call? You are found guilty and I'm not judge.
There's many of crooks in this town. Maybe you're one
of them. Maybe you ain't.
Speaker 5 (23:03):
We'll find that out before another ten minutes goes by.
What right now, friends of mine are coming into this courtroom.
Keep everyone coming on, make a moan.
Speaker 4 (23:12):
The mess man Hare's team washed in one of the
escape pishioners.
Speaker 2 (23:16):
Order order in this part you're under arrest.
Speaker 3 (23:21):
No want good arrest, just yet, Slay Frisbee bringing the Indian.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
We're coming.
Speaker 4 (23:28):
Hold requiet. There's the other two fugity order in this part.
You can't run things in this high handed way, even
if you are holding two guns on us hand, all
that touchment covering everyone.
Speaker 2 (23:41):
All right, Markham, take charge at this place, quiet life,
try it.
Speaker 4 (23:47):
That's better well the time being, Sheriff. You can't arrest
those fugitives because they've got you and all your men covered.
All right, all right, Markaim, But you said the body
of the man you shot wasn't in hand or what
do you.
Speaker 2 (24:01):
Call the engine, Frisbee and Slade brought in.
