Ancient legends describe the Djinn as beings made of smokeless fire — but modern researchers believe these shapeshifting entities from parallel dimensions may be responsible for UFO sightings, shadow people encounters, and alien abductions happening right now.

IN THIS EPISODE: Could the ancient legends of the Djinn hold the key to understanding shadow people, UFOs, and other paranormal phenomena, or are they simply the unseen architects of myths and mysteries beyond our grasp?

Speaker 1 (00:07):
The legends of the Gin. Other worldly entities from Middle
Eastern folklore have fascinated and mystified humanity for centuries. But
what if these ancient stories are more than just myths.
Could encounters with these supernatural beings provide answers to some
of the most puzzling phenomena of our time, from shaowy

(00:29):
figures in the night to eerie alien abductions. Some researchers
believe the Gin might have a far greater influence on
our world than we realize. The Gin might be inter
dimensional travelers, capable of appearing as smokeless fire, a form
eerily similar to plasma. Could the Gin be tied to

(00:51):
sidings of UFOs, reptilian creatures, or shadow people. Gin could
very well inhabit ancient cave systems, the cause of blowing
orbs seen in our skies. According to some researchers, Tonight
look at the potential links between the Gin and the
unexplained forces shaping our world. These entities, what many refer

(01:15):
to as genies, appear to not be bound by our reality,
but instead exists in dimensions parallel to our own. I'm
Darren Marler, and this is weird Darkness. Welcome Weirdos. I'm

(01:39):
Darren Marler, and this is Weird Darkness. Here you'll find
stories of the paranormal, supernatural, legends, lore, the strange and bizarre, crime, conspiracy, mysterious, macabre,
unsolved and unexplained coming up in this episode. Stories of

(02:01):
real life encounters with genies are almost unheard of, especially
in modern times, but reports of personal encounters with extraterrestrials
are many. Some believe they could be one and the same.
Now bult your doors, lock your windows, turn off your lights,

(02:21):
and come with me into the weird darkness. Of all
of the strange other worldly entities, the legends and alleged

(02:43):
meetings with the Gin are perhaps among the most fascinating,
and until fairly recently, the least studied outside of the
Middle East of them all. In fact, many people do
say that such encounters with aliens are in fact encounters
with the Gin, supernatural entities that come from another realm

(03:05):
of existence. And though these legends are common among the
peoples of the Middle East, the Gin's reach, if we
give some credence to its existence for a moment, seem
to be much more expansive. Rosemary Ellen Guiley is one
researcher that has studied the Gin extensively. She did much research,

(03:27):
and her findings are probably best appreciated in her book,
The Vengeful Gin, Unveiling the Hidden Agenda, which not only
studies the legends of the Gin, but also what they
may adequately be. I've linked to her book in the
show notes, though we've covered legends and folklore often here
on weird darkness, as well as shape shifting entities, all

(03:50):
of which the Gin could fit easily under the specific
entries merit examination on their own. Indeed, they may turn
out to be the key to the unlocking of a
great deal of the supernatural and the unknown. Before we
delve into some of the legends and alleged encounters with
the Gin, let's perhaps pause a moment to look at

(04:10):
some of Giley's work a little further regarding what the
Gin may actually be. For instance, many people believe alien incidents,
ghost incidents, even bigfoot incidents and werewolf incidents, pretty much
any encounter with a weird other actually are the Gin.
This doesn't deny the presence or reality of the aforementioned

(04:33):
entities per se, but that the opportunistic Gin can trick
us into interacting with them in certain ways, as Guiley states.
In fact, there are various researchers that believe, as is
the case with UFO researcher Brad Steiger, that the alien
presence on Earth is here specifically to tempt us to
misbehave or misbehave themselves. Maybe these aliens are actually Gin.

(05:00):
While Giley isn't claiming that every aspect of the paranormal
can be explained away as an encounter with the Gin,
she does say that the evidence points to them as
significant players in our interactions with parallel dimensions and other
worldly realities that intrude into ours. Giley also notes that
studies in the field of modern science are starting to

(05:21):
explore the true reality of other dimensions that run parallel
to our world. If we find absolute proof that other
dimensions do exist, could the legends of the Gin be
more accurate than we imagine? You see, she says when
she turns her attention to running over the description of
Gin in how they took on the form of smokeless fire,

(05:42):
and makes the connection that this is a lot like plasma,
the fourth state of matter. To quote her at full length,
in Layman's terms, plasma is an ionized gas, in which
enough energy is supplied to free electrons from atoms or molecules,
and allows both charged atoms and electron to exist. This
weird fourth state of matter is the most prevalent in

(06:04):
the universe. The Sun is plasma, as is lightning, so
a plasmic creature would need only minimal physical space to live.
The writer just the Mspack, speaking to Live Science, said,
plasma is a state of matter that is often thought
of as a subset of gases, but the two states
behave very differently. Plasma like gases have neither a defined

(06:28):
shape nor volume, and are less dense than solids or liquids.
But unlike common gases, plasmas consist of atoms from which
some or all of the electrons have been stripped, and
positively charged nuclei known as ions, move freely. Does the
modern and current perspectives and explanations of the plasma bring

(06:49):
us a different aspect of what the gin may be
interdimensional inhabitant. These ideas of entities from other dimensions, some
of which can cross over into our reality as well,
are fascinating, not least because they have appeared in other theories,
perhaps most notably as things like aliens, reptilians, and even

(07:09):
shadow people, and that is where we will turn our
heads next when weird darkness returns. There are many researchers

(07:41):
who have wondered if aliens in fact are not visiting
us directly from the outer reaches of space, but from
another dimension or possibly through some sort of portal. Many
of the Arabian stories which have been translated into Islamic texts,
the Gin are in this place and very near and
invisible to human Giley writes, which could definitely imply that

(08:03):
they reside in another dimension. Many are cynical of this work,
but for researcher and writer David Ike, reptilian aliens exist
in the lower fourth dimension and are in fact invisible
to us until they cross over in duirs. If there's
any truth to these theories, does that mean that reptilian

(08:23):
aliens are essentially the Gin, or are the Gin essentially
reptilian aliens. We'll cover that more closely in a bit.
The most logical candidate as to where the Gin dwells,
incidentally guilely suggests, would be the fifth dimension. In fact,
maybe our entire universe is one of the hypothetical parallel dimensions.

(08:46):
Of space and time. We are already aware of how
little of the visual spectrum the human eye sees, and
how there could literally be a world of activity happening
around us that we just cannot see or even hear.
Could it even be that these unseen dimensions of reality
are the other realities in which all types of beings

(09:07):
could potentially be realized from. In many of the legends,
they say the Gin lives in lonely desolate places caves, mountains, deserts,
and forests, based on the misconception of the people of
the era about these places being somewhat invisible. These far
away places were all invisible to many people at the time,

(09:28):
and that they would have little opportunity to ever go there.
But maybe now, with up to date thinking and the
awareness that other dimensions actually might be real, these unseen
areas might be right next to you, ironically, in the West,
albeit strangely, most people's first exposure to the Gin is

(09:49):
from movies like Aladdin or television shows like I Dream
of Genie, both of which have roots in Gin lore. Similarly,
the discovery of a genie in a that fulfill's wishes
also finds the roots of its origin here. So long
story short. Even though we know practically nothing of the
Gin legends from a Western standpoint, we have some probably

(10:12):
greater contact with at least watered down versions of these
legends than we realize. As already stated, the Gin can
transform and take any shape they wish. The manner they
do this, as we might expect, is not known, and
whilst they can take literally any form that they desire to,
there are a few extremely interesting alternative forms of the

(10:35):
Gin to look at. One of the most curious is
that they will often show up in the guise of
a black dog. We've looked before at the phenomenon of
strange black dogs that have a distinctly paranormal aura about them.
Are they perhaps linked with legends of the Gin more
than we would expect? For instance, many times these manifestations

(10:57):
come after these strange mists or shadows. Could this be
the smokeless fire or plasma element of the Gin. Although
many of the tales of black dogs occur in the
United Kingdom and mainly Europe, they do appear in the Americas,
and interestingly enough, the sites and legends of them have
the feel of black magic and even devil like characters.

(11:20):
Again is this related to the Gin. Some of these
are connections that could maybe use further exploration. There are
other more common animal manifestations of the Gin. Most legends
suggest the Gin usually shape shift to the form of
a snake and usually enter a person's house in disguise.

(11:41):
This is the power of conviction that a snake inside
a house is most likely a gin, and many people
do not kill or hurt them. However, if they did
and it was a Gin, then they'd probably seek revenge
for such an act. A scorpion or lizards appear suddenly
with similar beliefs of interest. It could be argued that

(12:01):
besides the Gin, what are the most famous, if not
the most famous shape shifter is the werewolf, which is
arguably not connected to the Gin. In some beliefs, wolves
are considered to be a natural predator of the Gin.
It's not just animals the Gin can convert into and
take on the likeness of, of course. As an example,

(12:22):
some legends connect the Gin to intense winds, storms and sandstorms.
They can also seem to present as shadows, typically jerking
against a wall or in of itself. Maybe this should
warn us about the so called shadow people encounters. Again,
is there a connection between this and the Gin. We

(12:43):
will unwrap the connections to the shadow people encounters soon.
They can seem in half or full human forms too,
which immediately makes one think of claims and legends of
half human half animal creatures. Maybe we should also remember
legends of ancient Greece referencing Zeus assuming forms of other

(13:04):
people to influence human thought or outright deceive them. In essence,
the sheer number of links and interpretations we can draw
upon with respect to not only many facets of the paranormal,
but also those equally fascinating connections with many legends and
folklores make it easy to appreciate why some researchers would
conclude that the Gin are far more prominent in our

(13:26):
modern world than many could believe previously. While many in
the Western world think the legends of the Gin are
just that legends, many people from the Middle East claim
they are very real and guess what, they don't question
their realness. In Guile's aforementioned book, a colleague of hers,

(13:46):
Philip j Imbrogno, recounts just such a trip into the
region and how very real the Gin there seemed to be.
Imbrogno had gone to the region in the mid nineties
to study the gin. This was possible because because a
former soldier he had served with in Vietnam was now
a high ranking member of the security force of the
royal Saudi family. In Brogno said that he would refer

(14:09):
to the person in question by the name Jack to
protect his identity. Once in the country, he would go
to Jack's house, a wealthy area of Saudi Arabia where
he would reside. After he met his friend and after
they made small talk and brognow learned they had both
been invited to a dinner party that a member of
the Saudi royal family would be attending. It would be

(14:31):
a dinner that would turn out to be crucial for
the writer's research. At the dinner, he would sit beside
the member of the royal family, a royal cousin, and
would have a brief chance to speak with the royal.
He would tell the royal that he was there to
study the lore of the gin. A royal family member
immediately replied that he would tell him about them and

(14:51):
that it's very real and exists in my country. According
to his account, he would proceed to unfold a riveting
encounter The Saudi Royal reportedly said in his account that
a unit of the United States military had been seeking
a GIN for years. They received specific permissions to fly
in the desert areas of the country, but only in

(15:13):
cases where missions have military or scientific objectives. In particular,
the United States military was trying to acquire a technical
device that the GIN were using. Not only could they
use this device to pass through solid walls, they could
open and walk through dimensional windows using this same device.
The Saudi Royal said he wasn't sure whether the United

(15:35):
States had successfully obtained such a device, but argued that
their attempts were real and serious, but that was all
he was prepared to share before shutting down the conversation.
Before doing so, however, he instructed Jack to bring his
friend to visit a holy man the next day whose
knowledge of the GIN ran deep, which, incidentally, and Bruno

(15:59):
would compare them at which the Saudi Royal told him
to one of his own UFO investigations in the Pine
Bush area of New York. As he talked to the locals,
he discovered they had noticed a greater military presence in
the area, one that they would explain to him as
training exercises by the military, but at least one of them.

(16:19):
Brogno's contacts would insist the Pine Bush area was being
occupied not for a white tailed deer extermination program, but
to capture an inter dimensional alien. More intriguingly, this alien
was using a device that enabled it to access portals
to enter the area that the military wanted to capture
and learn to maneuver for their purposes. Could these obvious

(16:42):
repercussions have been the spillover of the operations the Saudi
Royals said were ongoing in the desert. The next morning,
following the revelations of the dinner in Brogno was brought
to meet this holy man and was allowed to ask
him what he knew of the Gin. The Gin, he
would to and Brogno were made of fire and possessed

(17:03):
long life spans and great power. More interesting was that
they could manipulate matter and change form. Perhaps some of
this manipulation of matter is building portals in which the
Gin come into our world. What's interesting here is that
many researchers think UFOs and Bigfoot and all sorts of
strange encounters are caused by these kinds of portals. Just

(17:27):
as researchers believe that there are hot spots around the
planet where such activity occurs. So too do many experts
on the Gin claim there are critical locations throughout the
world that the Gin use as a doorway into our realm.
One example, according to Inbrogno's research, is Selma Plateau in Oman,

(17:48):
where there is mogiles all Gin, meaning meeting place of
the Gin, which is likely the name ascribed by recent
explorers to the area. A gigantic cave that needs to
be accessed by lowering oneself through one of the openings
of the Earth. Just to give an idea of how
big the cave is, the giant Pyramid of Giza would

(18:08):
fit comfortably in its main chamber. It wouldn't be until
the early nineteen eighties when it had become widely known
outside of the area, but anyone who had lived nearby
was fully aware and wary of its history and presence
in Brogno would eventually get a visit to the cave
in Saudi Arabia. His friend Jack was going to make

(18:29):
arrangements on which guides would guarantee safe passage into the country,
one being Captain Yeremish. They would fly across the border
for a brief flight before a car would arrive to
make the short drive to the town of Finns in
the eastern Hajar Mountains. Then they would be guided by
a local expert in the cave system. They'd show up

(18:50):
in the afternoon intending to explore the cave the next day,
but through the course of the evening and Brogno would
talk to as many locals as it could. Nearly all
were convinced of the gin's real presence. One person in
particular seemed to confirm something the Saudi royal had told
him the night before. The man not only claimed to

(19:11):
have encountered a gin himself, but the governments of the
United States and oman were aware of their existence. Moreover,
they were trying to deal with them. This immediately made
in Brogno's ears perk a little. When local men would
tell him to explain more, he would simply say that
soldiers Omani and American had told him they were tracking gin.

(19:36):
What makes this interesting, at least from the point of
view of a ufologist, is that he says he was
given this information by someone in a mountain military base
of which he was apparently being interrogated after the soldiers
heard about his encounter. Moreover, he was remanded not to
talk to anyone about the interrogation or about his gin meeting.

(19:58):
The next day, I would finally reach the cave in question,
but when it was time to go in, his guides
suddenly insisted he must go alone. They would not go
into the cave. As he started to descend, though, he
saw a strange mist moving upward. It could have been anything,

(20:18):
he thought. Then he heard what he thought was human
voices speaking Arabic. At this moment, he stopped going lower
and looked around. He saw that the mist seemed to
coalesce into a large figure right beneath him. He also
observed that the mist had an odd format to it,
one that absorbed all light and would not reflect it back.

(20:40):
And then he heard that voice again, only now it
was speaking English. He heard the words leave my place.
At the same time he could hear the voices of
his two guides above him. He would write, Though I
couldn't understand what they were saying, one word was clear.
Jin He climbed out of the cave and raced toward

(21:03):
the guides. Walking to their waiting vehicle, he finally caught
up and asked what was going on. The response was inequivocal.
Didn't see it. It was a gin taking shape and
telling us to leave this place immediately. Imbrogno had seen
something strange, but he wasn't sure exactly what it was.
His guides, though, had no doubt. While in Brogno, wanted

(21:25):
to return to the cave for a second look. Each
of the guides refused. The three of them left the
area immediately. An interesting PostScript to that event is that
the cave system in question was made accessible to the
general public shortly after Inmbrogno's encounter. It would later become
the site of thousands and thousands of people. Then, in

(21:46):
two thousand and eight, access to the cave was suddenly
and abruptly withdrawn for safety concerns quote unquote. Whether other
reasons forced the closure perhaps remains the subject of debate.
We said we'd visit the theories and claims of reptilian
beings and some of the parallels between them and the gin.

(22:07):
We'll do that next on Weird Darkness. There are myriad

(22:34):
of theorems, musings, speculations, beliefs, and even absolute factual statements
that gin are related to beings such as lizard people.
What are the most interesting details? Comes, perhaps unsurprisingly, in
a footnote in the book The Vengeful Gin. If we're
reminded of the information gathered by Imbrogno during his visit

(22:56):
to Oman the military, we're seeking to obtain technical devices
of the Gin that enabled them to walk through walls,
which Imbrogno reports of receiving. From an account told to
Rosemary Ellen Giley years later than the trip, Imbrogno explained
that one acquaintance told Guiley about an encounter they had
had with two reptilian beings. The US incident took place

(23:20):
in New Mexico. The encounter was interesting because the reptilians
had these belts which allowed them to go through walls.
Could this imply that reptilians and the Gin work together?
And there are other things that both entities have in common.
For instance, they need a physical form to consume food
or beverages, but they are entirely nourished by the consumption

(23:43):
of energies of souls. They kind of suck the life
force out of a person. They also can feed on emotions,
sometimes affecting them so that they get the emotion they
need the same as which many that investigate reptilian entities
also claim. Some red Gin are even said to resemble reptiles,

(24:04):
giving them an even darker and more sinister edge. According
to Gailey's research, these specific gen typically adopt a reptilian form,
and also they are responsible for possession, illness, and hauntings.
The red Gin, for example, are responsible for alien sightings
at all sorts of paranormal phenomena. Dilly goes on to

(24:26):
explain that red Gin are the true terrorists of the universe,
explaining that they whisper in the ears of men and
women to sway them to act and even do their bidding.
Even more disturbing, they collect human souls, sometimes in exchange
for granting humans favors like wishes. This is an interesting thought.

(24:48):
Such claims could and often are invoked by researchers who
believe there is a reptilian conspiracy of sinister creatures looking
to enslave and eventually destroy humanity. Many aspects of the
theories themselves e g. Reptilians regularly possessing key people in
important roles to help twist the workings of the world

(25:08):
to benefit them, have some basis. In fact, there are
even more allegations about how these reptiles live off of
our emotions to stay powerful in our world. And we
could also note that a great number of those who
profess close encounters with gray aliens tend to remember a
sort of reptilian element thereof that they rarely manage to explain.

(25:30):
So far as how far fetched the idea of reptilians is,
similarities are certainly fascinating in the extreme. We've skimmed over
the crossover with apparent extraterrestrial beings and UFO abductions, but
even UFO sightings for some provide some interesting ties to
the GIN. But before we get into the UFOs themselves,

(25:52):
we may also want to explore again the legends of
the Gin that they whisper into the ears of humans
in order to communicate with and influence them. Many alleged
alien abductees often report of hearing voices in their head,
something all but a few scant researchers regard as telepathic communication.

(26:13):
Could it, however, be another detail that ought to put
us on guard against the possible presence of the Gin.
At the same time, let's bear in mind that a
good many UFO reports aren't close up with detailed memories
of some solid machine derived vehicle. Though many such experiences
do exist, most all UFOs have some form of orbs

(26:38):
or balls of light which then morph into shapes as
they move through or in the sky. Could these, upon
further consideration, UFOs be really the shifting plasma of a gin.
And we caution once again that such considerations in no
way imply that all UFO sightings can be explained the

(27:00):
presence of the GIN. But some of the orb or
luminescent fluid morphing objects are certainly candidates for extra scrutiny.
Connections that align with mentions of the shadow people are
of particular interest, especially as in recent years they seem
to be on the rise, if we take into account

(27:20):
that many specialists of the GIN allege the supposed sightings
of them also seem to be increasing, or maybe when
we take into account that there is a notable crossover
of interest between encounters with shadow people and individuals suffering
from alien abduction. Returning to the research of Rosemary Guiley,
she concluded that perhaps one of the greatest correlations between

(27:44):
sightings and encounters of shadow people has a direct link
to the GIN. She'd mentioned how they come in a
home during the night for many times, and this is
the behavior of the Gin. They're also frequently located in
very particular settings, locations we might term haunted, but it
could be that these locations serve as portals through where

(28:06):
perhaps the Gin enter and exit our realm, and they
can appear and disappear in an instant. The very look
of the Shadow people is noteworthy. The forms are sometimes
quite human looking, almost like they're wearing clothes, including a
long coat or even a hat. At other times, however,
these strange shadowy presences do seem a very distinct black mist,

(28:31):
not uncommonly called blacker than black, but do not take
a specific form. Could this be the plasma or smokeless
fire of Gin legend. It's Gilly's conclusion that the Shadow
People seem to have an agenda of monitoring or surveilling humans,
leading to comparisons with alien abduction experiences. Many of the

(28:56):
theories swirling around the alien abduction community cause it the
these hands on recommissions are for some endgame where some
form of hybridization with humanity will be used to overtake
the planet as the alpha species. Many Gin legends believe
that they aspire to reclaim their once great place on Earth.

(29:17):
Such scenarios, unlikely as they might be, should perhaps worry us. All.
It's safe to say that we have neither the space
nor the time to discuss the legends of the Gin
and whether they are much more closely related to other
esoteric elements of the paranormal, such as hauntings, alien abduction,

(29:37):
even in some cases reptilian entities. Yet there does appear
to be a reason to continue to study such things.
What would it mean for humanity in general if there
was some truth to the legends of the Gin, and
more urgently, what their seeming existence in our contemporary world
would mean. A lot of what we think we know

(29:59):
right now would suddenly come into question. The Gen are
a significant part of the law and supposed encounters that
comprise the paranormal world, and how they might relate to
our shared reality is still up in the air. The
existence of the Gin are rooted in legends thousands of
years old and theories more numerous than can be imagined.

(30:20):
Are they old gods from parallel dimensions, hearing and prodding
us from just outside our field division Are they extraterrestrials
we've simply been unable to wrap our brains and beliefs around.
Are they nothing but products of human imagination from centuries
upon centuries of storytelling and cultural belief Maybe what's true

(30:41):
is something in between the combination of folk lore and
undiscovered scientific achievements about the fabric of our universe. Or
perhaps it's a completely different explanation we would not be
able to understand even if given the facts. As modern
day science continues peeling back the layers of parallel dimensions

(31:02):
and plasma physics, the chance that the Gin aren't myth
becomes a harder argument to ignore. There links to shadow people,
alien encounters, and other bizarre phenomena indicate they may be
far more involved in the unexplained than we've given them
credit for, whether benevolent tricksters, malevolent manipulators, or something even

(31:25):
further beyond human comprehension, The Gin compel us to reevaluate
what is real, be they shape changers, ancients, or figments
of our fears and desires. The Gin are a lasting
representation of the in between, and they challenge us to
continue to ask questions about the fragments of mythology and

(31:45):
our own perception of reality. Thanks for listening. If you

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
