tingling spooks. Micro Terrors are family friendly frights for those

Speaker 1 (01:25):
The Grave City Library, Part four written by Scott Donnelly,
narrated by Darren Marler. Sean and Lucy were still holding
onto each other, eyes closed and screaming, when they felt
a cold wind slap against their bodies. Immediately they knew
something had changed, something was different. Their screams dissolved as
(01:50):
they opened their eyes, but instead of being in Casey
Cox's office at the library, they now found themselves in
a dark, dead forest with a purple moon glow brightly
in the sky above them. Slowly, they both released their
grip on each other and nervously studied their new surreal surroundings.
Where are we, Lucy wandered out loud. Sean didn't have
(02:13):
an answer. He didn't know where they were. All he
knew was it wasn't right. Wait, Lucy said, grabbing Sean
by his sleeve. Once she had his attention, she said, Creaker,
the creeper got us back in the office. Sean's eyes widened.
It wasn't that they had forgotten that face. It was
(02:33):
just that everything had happened so fast that their brains
couldn't keep up. Sean looked around again, the endless sea
of dead, bony trees they stood in, the abstract purple
moon above. This wasn't their reality the book, Sean said,
We in mister Moran's book. We're the newest characters. Lucy trembled.
(02:56):
She took a couple of steps forward, immediately stepping on
things that cracked and broke under her weight. She looked
down and watched as what appeared to be bones shattered
under her shoe. Sean, noticing it, too, knelt down where
he stood and examined a small, oblong skull. He picked
it up to get a better look. In the dim
amethyst delight. There were two large eye sockets and a
(03:19):
hollow nasal cavity in the front. But what struck him
as odd was its jaw. It was on the opposite
side of the skull. Sean stood up with the nightmarish
creature's skull in his hands. Look, he whispered to Lucy.
Her expression upon seeing it was one of fear and confusion.
He hell, she asked, shakily. If it doesn't make any sense,
(03:42):
just that. A scream erupted in the distance. Sean dropped
the skull and it shattered into dust at his feet.
The scream was of someone in distress. Then a second
scream came from behind them, followed by another and another.
Within seconds, there were horrible screams coming from every corner
of the dead forest. Lucy grabbed hold of Sean again.
As they leaned on each other for comfort, they heard
(04:04):
footsteps crunching through the bones and leaves on the forest floor.
The kids spun around in the direction they heard them
coming from. The footsteps grew louder, quicker, and doubled. There,
Sean whispered, pointing into the darkness. Two silhouettes were making
their way quickly to them. Sean and Lucy continued to
hold on tightly to one another as they braced themselves
(04:25):
for whatever horrors they were about to endure. But then,
under the purple glow, the silhouetted figures appeared before them
and stopped. Sean was relieved to see they weren't monsters
at all, and Lucy was relieved, but she recognized both
of the adults standing before them, Darren Casey, Lucy exclaimed,
(04:46):
letting go of Sean. Yes, Darren Miller said, you are
Lucy Buxton, Lucy. Darren said, are you guys okay? I
think so. Lucy said, this is John Dyer. We were
in your office, Casey, trying to figure out what happened
to you guys, and then Kreeger showed up and took us.
(05:07):
That's exactly what happened to me, Casey said. Darren nodded.
We're all part of Moran's story. Now, how do we
get out, Sean pleaded. No one said a word. It
had become clear to them that Kreeger the Creeper would
steal people to use as characters in the book, But
what wasn't clear was the reason each of them were chosen.
(05:29):
Lucy had been saved by the ghost of Moran, as
was Ali back in the library. Sean looked up at
Darren Miller. You're an author, right, Darren nodded. Then try
to put yourself in Moran's shoes. What makes you pick characters?
What purpose could they, uh, we serve? Maybe that'll give
us a little bit of a clue as to why
(05:50):
we're here. Maybe we can use that to our advantage
to try and find a way out. Darren snapped his fingers.
I like the way you think, he said. Then he
thought for a moment, running through his own creative process
in his mind. So, when you create characters for a book,
they each need to serve a propose, and in Moran's case,
(06:10):
he was writing a horror story. Horror stories typically have
a villain and a hero. Ain't a bunch of people
who don't make it, Lucy darkly added, right, Darren said.
He looked around at the woods, again, a vast, endless
scene that didn't seem to go anywhere. He thought deeper
into his creative ways. Well, maybe this area is like
(06:33):
his notes. Maybe he doesn't know what to do with
us yet. He's still breenstorming. Casey and I have been
walking around aimlessly for hours. It all looks like this,
dead trees, bones, the purple light. There's nothing else here.
How long does it take to write a book, Sean complained.
(06:53):
Darren looked at him. Moran seems very specific, very precise,
so precise in fact, that he just can't get his
story to work. Is there a way we can contact Moran,
Casey wondered, I mean, maybe if we beg him here.
Casey was interrupted by a piercing, animalistic shriek that exploded
(07:14):
out of nowhere. From up in the tree is a
horrific looking creature pounced down and placed itself between the
four of them. The creature was on all fours, had
spiny hairs covering its body, and an elongated head with
two large glowing eyes, and a human like nose that
dripped goopy snut everywhere. It faced Sean and Lucy while
(07:35):
Darren and Casey stood on its opposite side, where its
dreadful mouth opened, expelling a piercing shriek and showcasing rose
upon rows of sharp teeth. Casey screamed and Darren backed up,
putting himself in front of Casey. On the other side,
Sean and Lucy both screamed and stumbled backward. Lucy tripped
(07:55):
over a bone that was lodged upright in the ground
and fell on her back. A creature did waste any time.
It lunged forward and smacked its claws down onto Lucy's legs,
digging them nor shins. She screamed out in pain, and
then the creature stood up on its hind legs. It
stood nearly six or seven feet tall, then sprinted off
into the darkness, with Lucy screaming over its shoulder. Leucy
(08:19):
Sean yelled. He made an attempt to run after the creature,
but Darren stopped him. Don't, Darren said, you wouldn't even
know where to go. This might be a part of
the creative process. What Sean furiously yelled, She's gone, She's
Darren hung his head. Casey closed her eyes. Sean collapsed
to his knees and cried. Suddenly, the ground beneath him
(08:42):
cracked and caved in. Sean dropped down within an avalanche
of dirt, leaves, and bones, into an even darker cave
where the purple glow from above struggled to thrive. Sean
smacked the rocky surface and cried out in pain. He
heard Darren and Casey yelling for him, but their voices
were muffled. Sean stood to his feet and looked around,
(09:02):
but it was too dark. Without warning, two glowing eyes
ignited in the darkness. Sean knew it was the same
creature or kind of creature that took Lucy. With nowhere
to run, Sean had no choice but to stand his ground.
The creature released its horrible shriek and then bounded for Sean.
Sean closed his eyes just as the creature grabbed him
(09:23):
with its claws. A loud crash of thunder shook the
library again. Lucy was sprawled out on the floor in
Casey Cox's office. She sat up and turned around. Sean
lay on the ground behind her. Sean, Lucy exclaimed, scooting
herself over to help him sit up. As his eyes adjusted,
he realized they were back in the library. Sparks continued
(09:47):
to sporadically spew from the broken fluorescent bulbs on the ceiling.
The file box had been tipped over on its side,
and all of its paper contents were spread out onto
the floor. Sean got to his knees and faced the
office door where he was abrupt lay startled by what
he saw. An older man stood there gawking at them.
The man had a bushy beard and was dressed in
(10:07):
very loose casual clothing. Lucy saw him too, and shot
to her feet, Having seen this man once before and
since then realizing who he was, she wasn't surprised by
his other worldly appearance. She was actually relieved to see him.
You shouldn't have been there, the man said, you're not
a good fit for the story. The man turned around
(10:28):
and walked toward the door. His body then took on
a cloudy, translucent form as he prepared to walk right
through it. Wait, Lucy exclaimed, mister Moran. The ghostly figure
stopped and turned around to face the kids. I'm sorry
he took you again, the ghost said. Sometimes Kreeger doesn't
know any better. Sometimes he has a mind of his own.
(10:51):
I need a hero in my story to stop the villain.
The ghost of Anthony Moran turned around again and began
to walk through the door. Wait, Lucy shouted, stopping the
ghost again. Mister Moran turned around once more, go children,
go home. Make the most of your time. Complete the
things you need to do, otherwise your ending will just linger.
(11:15):
It doesn't have to, Lucy said, your ending doesn't have
to linger or go unfinished. Let us help you, mister Moran.
Let us help you finish the story. The ghost just
stood there, wispy white fog, breaking off from his form
and dissipating into the ether ow. The ghost said, how
can you help me? Lucy smiled, Well, Sean and I
(11:37):
have really immersed ourselves in your history, and we know
how important it is to you for your story to
be completed. But there are other ways to tell it.
Krieger doesn't have to keep taking real people. Darren Miller
is an author. He's trapped in there right now. With
his help, we can finish your book and make sure
you get the credit you deserve. You could be remembered
as a writer, as you should be, not as a
(11:59):
spirit haunts the building taking people. The ghost just remained
at the office door, pondering Lucy's words. Sean knelt down
and grabbed the leatherbound notebook that Kreeger the Creeper was
being written in. We can start now, Sean said. We
can create a new character, a fictional one, to save
the day. We can make things right and save the
(12:20):
people who don't deserve to be forgotten or erased. A
tear formed in one of the ghost's eyes. You kids
remind me of my grandson Marshall, so innocent with a long,
beautiful future ahead. The ghost sighed, okay, he said, what
do you have in mind? Darren was on his knees
(12:46):
looking down into the hotow chasm that Sean had fallen into.
I don't see him, Darren panicked. It's ounded like another
one of those creatures. Casey fearfully said, wrapping herself in
her own arms and wearily keeping an eye on the woods. Shone.
Darren called down into the hole, but only his own
voice echoed back. He stood up. He's gone, just like Lucy.
(13:10):
Now I think we need to Darren was interrupted by
loud jarring cracks and creaks in the woods. He froze,
awaiting whatever horror was about to reveal itself next, But
when it happened, it wasn't what he was expecting. The
trees around them, all dead and gaunt, began to bend
inward toward them, their branches and trunks cracking and creaking
(13:31):
like the bowels of a ship under extreme distress. Then
the branches all shot out and wrapped themselves around Darren
in casing. They both screamed and thrashed about trying to escape,
but it was no use. The branches were wrapped too
tightly around their arms, legs, and midsections. One branch even
enveloped Darren's neck, making him gasp for air. The course
(13:53):
of screams from deep in the woods began to perform again,
belting out frightful sounds of agony. The moon grew twice
its size and shifted in color from purple to blood red,
casting the forest in a dark crimson smolder. Piercing shrieks
resounded from every direction, ushering in more than a dozen
of the creatures that took the kids away, uncandy creatures
(14:15):
with eyes radiating on one side of their head and
vicious jaws snapping on the other, and then materializing from
the crimson shadows themselves. Kreeger the creeper appeared in front
of Darren and Casey. Its eyes were bloodshot, its arms
reaching out, and for the first time, just beneath its eyes,
its shadowy form split open to reveal the sharpest teeth
(14:37):
to have ever existed. Both sides of its mouth curled
into a sickening, menacing smile, and it exhaled a deep
bellow that mangled every nerve in Darren and Casey's body.
They closed their eyes and awaited their end, But then
something happened. Someone else appeared out of nowhere, cloaked in
(14:57):
a sparkling silver robe, without hood covering their face. The
figure extracted a shimmering blade from within their robes and
slashed it down at Krieger. The blade cut through its
shadowy frame like butter, splitting it in two. With a
second horizontal slash of the blade, Kreeger was sliced into fourths,
and each of its murky parts dissolved into oblivion. The
(15:21):
creatures that surrounded the scene all pounced at once toward
the mysterious cloaked figure, but with ease, the blade cut
them all down, silencing their shrieks and extinguishing their glowing stairs.
All that was left with the trees, their branches constricting
tighter with every passing second. The cloaked hero jumped and
(15:41):
flipped through the air, slicing through the skeletal branches that
held Darren and Casey captive. They fell to the ground
in a heap. As the figure then turned their attention
to the thick, rough trunks of the trees. They hacked
and slashed until the trees were maimed and lacerated enough
to bring about their end. Bark and branches fell to
the ground as the trees began to wither away and
(16:02):
slumped to the side. The Crimson forest fell silent, but
as Darren and Casey stood to their feet, the red
overcast began to slowly lift and was replaced by natural sunlight.
The mysterious figure sheathed their blade back into their cloak
and removed their hood. To their surprise, and despite the
(16:23):
maneuvers and agile fighting techniques the hero had performed, it
was an older man beneath the sparkling silver robe, an
older man with a beard. Casey cocked her head. She
recognized the man, miss DeMar, and the man smiled. Inspired
by he boldly stated the names Marshall Dyer Buxton aka
(16:46):
Grim Shadow, Grim Shadow, Casey asked, I traveled this dark
and dangerous world, ridding it of its evil dwellers. I
just happened to be in the neighborhood at the right time.
I Seeger, the creeper can't hurt you anymore, neither can
that ruthless Horde of Marlous Ores. You're safe and I
(17:07):
can get you home. Thank you, Casey said, with great emotion.
Darren shook Grimshadow's hand. Thank you, he said as well,
looking the hero up and down, You'll fit in perfectly here.
Grim Shadow looked around as the vast sea of decrepit
trees began to show signs of life again. As sprout leaves,
the bones on the ground sank into the soil, and
(17:30):
in their place, bright green grass began to grow.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
Well, someone's got.
Speaker 1 (17:35):
To look after this place and keep the evil at bay,
Grimshadow said. Darren smirked, Well, I couldn't have written a
better character myself. All of a sudden, grim Shadow ripped
his sword back out and sliced it down through the air,
opening a rift that pulled Darren and Casey in as
if they were sucked up by a vacuum. Back in
(17:55):
the office, the rift opened in mid air and dropped
Darren and Casey to the floor. Seawan and Lucy sat
at the desk and jumped up immediately upon seeing the
adults back in their own reality. I can't believe it worked,
Seawn exclaimed. He and Lucy helped Darren and Casey to
their feet. How did you, guys, I mean, did you
(18:16):
write all of that? Darren asked, grabbing the leather bound
notebook from the desk. Yeah, Lucy was happy to say,
with help and inspiration from mister Moran. Casey looked around
the office. Where is he? It wasn't until that moment
that Lucy and Seawan realized mister Moran had gone. The
room felt lighter, more joyful than it had. The angst
(18:39):
that had been hanging over the Grove City Library for
so long seemed to have lifted. Darren read the last
paragraph of what Lucy and Sean had just written out loud.
Grim Shadow had dispelled all the captives safely back to
their own universe, now surrounded by an alluring land full
of color and hope, and Seal himself until his mestery
(19:02):
of monster slaying would inevitably be cold upon again the end,
Darren looked up and smiled at Sean and Lucy. You
kids have a bright future ahead of you. Maybe Casey
would allow this book into the library system. Casey nodded,
(19:22):
I think it'd be well deserved. Seawan and Lucy looked
at each other and were in agreement. We don't want
our names attached, Lucy said, we want mister Moran to
get the credit he deserves. He's the author, this was
his story. I think we can honor mister Moran, Casey
gladly said. Just then, there was a knock on the
office door. Casey walked over and opened it. The woman
(19:45):
from the front desk stood there in her witch's costume,
as did Ali, still dressed as raggedy Ann Casey. The
woman said, as as she had never even forgotten who
she was to begin with, there are a lot of
people down in a lobby who want to talk to you,
a lot, scrunched her face.
Speaker 2 (20:01):
What people?
Speaker 1 (20:03):
The witchy woman's eyes went wide as she shook her
head in disbelief. You're gonna want to hear it for yourself,
she said. They're claiming they'd all being kidnapped by some
kind of dark spirit and trapped in some sinister world.
Screaming and wailing for years. Do you know anything about this?
Casey couldn't help but chuckle. She grabbed the book from
(20:23):
Darren's hand. Let me go talk to them, she said,
this book will explain everything. Casey followed the witchy woman downstairs.
Allie looked into the office and gave Sean and Lucy
a huge smile and thumbs up before following them as well.
Darren patted the kids on the back. Good work, guys,
he said proudly as he left the office. Next, only
(20:48):
Sean and Lucy remained. They threw a hug around each other,
one of celebration and comfort, so Lucy said, releasing a
thankful sigh of relief. Are you going trick or treating tonight?
Sewn shrugged.
Speaker 2 (21:01):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (21:02):
I can't believe I'm about to say this, but I
think I'm all spooked out. Well, if you cheeses your mind,
we could always go together, Lucy said. Sean nodded with
a smile. Lucy grabbed a hold of his hand and
together they walked down in the office. Maybe next year
we can investigate the monster bats that have been seen
at Gantce Park, Lucy said, with a spooky, intriguing inflection,
(21:27):
Sewn just laughed. You are coming back next Halloween, right,
