Inside netfore getting you closer to the game you love.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
With Nadean Wilson, Annah Stanley and Jenny Woods sow By
News Talks, i'd be getakoto and welcome to Inside people.
We've only been away for a week, but a lot
has happened. The Sulfuran squad for the twenty five to
twenty sixth season has been named and some major sun
Caught signings are rolling in. Yet we're still waiting on

(00:24):
NEPWY New Zealand and the Players Association to wrap up
collective bargaining before the A and Z Premiership contracting can
kick into gear.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
Jen, so much has happened. I can see you on
the GV seat rearing to share some pills of wisdom. Well, no,
my only.

Speaker 3 (00:41):
Pills of wisdom are I mean, I think this is
a really exciting time. They have finally got their act together.
They're doing stuff. Yeah Neple New Zealand. Okay, yes, sorry
they are. They've you know, they've got things organized, they're
getting well there, they're letting the players go, they've got
the eligibility contract sorted out. Don't put me on the

(01:04):
spot like this, And I think what will happen next year?
Is that when well, what do we know five or
so are going that there'll be It'll be like a
high tide. A high tide will come through, players will
come up. We are not short of players.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
Come through where so you're saying, come.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
Through system, come through the and in and out into
a and z I am. I am confident that you
know we will have players.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
That's if the coaches use those players, because we saw
this year that some of our coaches were going back
to the experienced ones. But yeah, look, I think it's
a time where that we have to give those young
ones an opportunity. I'm not so positive as you, Jen.
I'm just going to wait until the twenty second is
done and dusted because that's when the bargaining will finishes
and we can see what they are offering our players

(01:52):
as to whether that's a positive step. But my social
media account has just been buzzing with signings and sec
They are leaving, they're staying. So it is an exciting
time for netball. And I think it's fantastic that we've
seen Callie Jackson, she's our first to go good on her.
I say it is exciting, it's exciting and scary when

(02:13):
you're talking about contracting. Yes, Australia, they have until the
twenty second of August, as we understand it, to sign
their players.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
So that is the last day.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
When the contracting opens for A and Z is still
up in the air. Collective bargaining is still going on
between when New Zealand and the Players Association and until
that is sorted, no A and Z contract as I
understand it, or on the table. I'm sure lots of
conversations have been had and I'm sure they may not
have the official contract, but a lot of them will

(02:44):
be virtually signed, but they can't until they have that
collective in place. So that makes it tough, too, right
to making these decisions. But as you inferred or whatever
that word is.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
Are inferred, all right?

Speaker 2 (02:58):
We are hearing four or five ferns, maybe Sex are
going so we know so far.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
Kelly Jackson, she's gone and.

Speaker 3 (03:05):
Hasn't she played it perfectly? She's had the perfect run.
I mean she had a couple of years of the
A and Z Championship, you know, chriss crossing the Tasman
every week. Then she had the A and Z Premiership.
Now nearly twenty nine, she gets the you know the
good ones.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
So yeah, and I think timely for her to go
because I think she does need to elevate her game
to another level. I think she was a little bit
flat this year. I think by her standards, she's got
you know, Catherine Hall, kra Styth that have just made
the Silver Fern squad nipping at her heels. So I
think it's a positive move for her game. And I'm
sure Noles would have given her the big tick to go.

(03:42):
And of course another couple looking across the Tasman to
the Firebirths to team up with Jackson Maddie Gordon and
to pass Selby Rickett. There are another two players that
potentially will be signing and in the next few days.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
That'd be a thrill, wouldn't it. I mean also too,
I don't know have either of those two players I
don't think they have. They've never played for Kerry Wills before,
I don't think. But you know, it's just a step
into the we're not quite the unknown.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
I just think it's so exciting that you think whenever
we talked to Laura Langman, you talk to you know,
Katchina had already any of these players that had an
opportunity Sammy Winders that got an opportunity to go and
play in Australia. They are buzzing when you speak with them,
and so no wonder these girls if the opportunity, if
their door is now opened, that you can play for

(04:28):
the sial ferns and play on the uncle.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
Why wouldn't you.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
We're also hearing for some court contracts are very attractive.
They are significantly more if they're double well who would know.
So that's significantly more than what they will get at
A and Z. So I mean that is a massive
drill card. We're also hearing. I think social media is
very helpful at times, isn't it. Kate Heathnon, she's another

(04:52):
one that's been spoken about.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
Where are we hearing that?

Speaker 2 (04:54):
Is she going to and of her giants or swifts
and Burger potentially the Lightning.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
So mind you that was only because she had started
following them on social media. Really yes, I thought that
was but tenuous.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
But tenuous, but we'll take it.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
We'll take it, and I think we don't need to
panic because they are the only ones that we've heard.
So what's that five silver ferns to Tpe's not even
in the silver ferns squad. So does that narrow it
down to four Kelly five five with Grace and Jive.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
I wonder if any others are going, you know, the
ones who are unavailable I mean is yes.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
They didn't have to worry about the grateria Jane Watson.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
Would she be picked up by some team or other.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
You'd imagine she'd be in the conversation, but that would
be I mean, as we've talked about it in our
last episode, it's tough, right because you're also balancing.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
Life whole household and that's quite a long competition.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
The sun Corpse so to go over to Australia and
you'd have to base yourself over there. We did see
Casey corpor would come backwards and forwards a little bit
this year.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
What's she going to do this year?

Speaker 2 (05:49):
I thought she confirmed she was a no. I thought
a definite No, she was a definite no. I mean good,
why would you now? Like she just smashed it out
of the park. So look, it's fascin. What's really interesting
as well that we've heard, you know, silver ferns in
New Zealand and that's why the silfern we've just had
the Silfurn Squad of eighteen I think it was in

(06:11):
total named.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
That's why it's really important.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
You want a Sulfern contract because you get paid a
retainer that is different from Australia. Australia don't get Australian
diamonds don't get paid a retainer. They get paid daily
allowance or basically when they're assembled, they get paid. New
Zealand you get paid across a year and you get
test fees as well. So you really want one of
those Ferns contracts because that sets you up that that

(06:36):
basically is the difference between you being able to do
it full time as a netbawler or not. So really important,
so let's skip to that. We can come back. Wallin's
also gone, by the way, no no one for the
mistic she's had it back after the lightning. Probably not
a huge surprise. So Silfer and squad. Let's jump to
that eighteen were named. It was last week. I think

(06:57):
that was last week as wise, I think we were.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
All out of ten. I think now we agreed.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
We agreed on our six shooters and they are the
six shooters that were named Wiki Warmsley, Salmon, Hethenin Vouie
and Tuwy.

Speaker 1 (07:11):
So have we got anything to add about the shooters?

Speaker 2 (07:13):
Well, I think it's great that we're seeing the predecessor
to Echinacio. If she decides not to come back, we've
got Toy, Vui and hef that are going to be
because Song, you know you've got Wiki comeback, coming back.
You've got no Warmsley for the Tiny Jemison. So who's
going to be connecting with Wiki in that Tiny Jemison series?

(07:34):
Will it be will she go with the with those
three that have just said, or will we see Salmon
come out in that goal tech position. I just wonder
with Hefenin at that international level. And I just still
have a question mark over her weather. She's just too
slight in that goal a tech position. You know, imagine
her coming up against a Courtney Bruce, some of those
fierce defenders. She's quite little, She's made little. Whether she'll

(07:58):
just use their agility and speed, I don't know. But
I just have a question mark whether she can make
that step up at international level. I'm fascinated to see.
I would I would go for Toy Chuck Towey and there.
She's athletic.

Speaker 1 (08:11):
I love her.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
She's she's fast, she's dynamic. I'd like to see Towey
with Wiki see I I think I would go Heafenan.
I actually like I've seen glimpses and I just for me,
it's that combination. I just think she would combine quite
beautifully with Grace. Just because of her movement place. She
loves to cut round that top of that circle. I
think she would physically stand up to that tough defense,

(08:35):
no doubt.

Speaker 1 (08:35):
It's it's a challenge for anyone.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
She would get the South African series to practice, you know,
before you hit the Constellation Cup. It would be too Yes,
don't take them. I'm certainly not taking them for granted,
but I'm not quite the human Australia No, So I
actually I.

Speaker 1 (08:53):
Think heaven and I would.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
I would really like to see her named in that
tiny Jemison because I'm assuming she might know. We don't
know if she's going to name twelve or fourteen, because
she often rotates those two, right, she'll name a twelve
for each test, will see and wonder she'll take fourteen
or fifteen and then name two per test. I mean
twelve per test. We haven't heard that for suit.

Speaker 3 (09:13):
We haven't.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
No and then you as you just mentioned, there no echinacio.
She is taking a break for her mind, body and
spirit only from the international game. She hasn't confirmed domestically
that she's taking a break.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
That's our captain, Jen.

Speaker 3 (09:29):
I know. And then you look at the rest of
the squad and you think, well, actually, who else is
there who could step up? And then of course we
were discussing earlier, weren't we about Okay, so if you
are going to go and play your netball in Australia, well,
can you still be the captain? You'd have to be
because there's no other candidates really who well, who would

(09:51):
a captain material?

Speaker 2 (09:52):
And regardless your value in the Silver Ferns, if you're
the captain, is still going to be a value when
you're playing here, when you're in Australia playing SECN. So
her if she, if Kellie Jackson is the captain for
the Ferns, she will do an amazing job. When she's
a Silver Fans captain playing for the Silver Vans. It
doesn't matter if she's playing in Australia or not. And
we all seem to be thinking that she is the

(10:14):
cat Well.

Speaker 1 (10:14):
Yeah, she has to be the front runner.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
Yeah, well, I see, I would have thought so. I also,
I mean I like Kate Heffernan, I mean like them all, but.

Speaker 1 (10:24):
But you can only choose one, well can you?

Speaker 2 (10:27):
Because they're saying potentially co captains Knowles is looking into
that or captain vice captain. They obviously have to apply
and go through the interviewing process to be the Silver
Fans captain. So and Knowles kept Grace Wiki in the
leadership group. She was in Australia, which she wouldn't even know.
Noles didn't know. No one knew at that stage is

(10:47):
she was going to be able to play for the Ferns.

Speaker 1 (10:49):
Yet she kept her in the fold.

Speaker 2 (10:50):
She's still I think she was still under her silver
and retainer at the time as well. So look, who
knows is there anyone in that Mikel you just mentioned.
I'm Kate Hefferon, she was named. We've got Gordon Heffnon,
Rulu Buchanan to Java Earl and POI. So this is
where things change a little bit for us. So, yes,
I didn't pick these six we had and you and

(11:12):
I had two that aren't and their gen in particular,
that's right.

Speaker 3 (11:15):
I think I didn't. I didn't have Kmie or a
PoID not that I'm just made that she's there.

Speaker 1 (11:21):
And did you have Taylor Earl?

Speaker 2 (11:23):
No, Yeah, you would have had Sooness, did you so
soon This is the unlucky one And I sort of
feel that I put her in probably based on her
her past performances, because really I think she didn't have
a fantastic shed much shame well much she was injured
then did she get a not head knock or was
that just illness? And I mean O'Brien's not there either.

(11:45):
Clara O'Brien was the one that Knowles, you know, trumpeted,
you know, she was the one that she spoke very
highly of last year.

Speaker 1 (11:52):
She's not there.

Speaker 2 (11:52):
But I think I put Soonis in because I think
Sooners at her best against Taylor Earle at her best
at the moment, I would still had Sooness and that's
why I had her in the squad. So unlucky for Sooness,
so Earl's that she picked up there. I had Poi in.
I actually had Edgekimb. I think she's been the unluckiest

(12:13):
one out of that hole. Whether you class her as
mid cordal defense. And I've gone through that team now
out of all those middies, you cannot say that any
one of those players was the starting wing defense for
their franchise side. So essentially Knowles is picking a Silver
Ferns squad with no specialist wing defense. You'd go Gordon. Yep,

(12:36):
she can playing defense, but her probably best position is
center wing attack. You've got Taylor Earl, who can play
wing defense. She played center the whole year for the
for the Mystics, you've got Poi who's a center. You've
got Toe other who's a specialist wing attack. So my
only concern is where is the specialist wing defense position?
And I would say that Edgkam was probably the most

(12:57):
consistent player across every game in the AS this year.
We actually chose Paris locker toy and our team of
the tournament, So I think, and you fan a locker.

Speaker 3 (13:09):
Toy, Yes, but as much as anything because of her spirit.

Speaker 2 (13:13):
Either one of them should have got in because they
were a wing defense and because often we talk about
the slide right, the gold defence wing defense slide, but
actually when you look at the defenders, which is Burger, Jackson, Burley, Hall,
Stife Mason, none of them really play Burger really early
one then you need her at gold offense, and then

(13:33):
the other one Burley like she had she had half
half a game and round one I've got on the team.

Speaker 3 (13:40):
I'm pleased for her though that plant one pleased as well.

Speaker 1 (13:44):
But yeah, can you justify you please reasons?

Speaker 3 (13:51):
I've always rated her and I mean, look, she she
got what game? Half a game? Yeah, but you know
she might be one of the ones that who falls out,
although I you know, I don't know about that. But
I'm delighted for toy Ava. I really am pleased that
she's there. The number of people who have come up
to me and said, oh, you know, I'm so pleased
that Petter toy Ava is there.

Speaker 1 (14:13):
She's got to make the team first.

Speaker 2 (14:15):
Though I'm less like you are as well, but I
would be even more pleased.

Speaker 3 (14:19):
But was there one game that she was poor?

Speaker 1 (14:22):
Nope?

Speaker 3 (14:23):
I know she does things that no other player can.

Speaker 2 (14:27):
It's called X factor.

Speaker 1 (14:29):
Yeah, she's a brilliant inside nedball on iHeartRadio talking all
things netball inside nedball.

Speaker 2 (14:39):
To me, it's almost the people that are not in
this team or made themselves unavailable is the most interesting.
So was spoken about soon as locker toy Edgekim O'Brian
just weren't picked. We and it had this included in
the media release. The ones that made themselves unavailable Maya Wilson,
Emila Rani, Canacio to pass Alby Reckett, Tiana Maturo and

(15:02):
Jane Watson or unavailable for the twenty twenty five international season.

Speaker 1 (15:08):
Do we start asking why? Why are they? Why are
these people?

Speaker 2 (15:12):
And I know there will be probably quite unique circumstances
for all of these But Annie, when you think back
to our playing days, you made yourself unavailable when.

Speaker 1 (15:22):
You were done.

Speaker 2 (15:23):
You wanted to be a silver fern in you anything
that was your ultimate got Why are these what is it?

Speaker 1 (15:30):
Is there something about the environment? Is it the culture? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (15:33):
What is it that's that is making these people go? Actually,
I'll play ane zed which takes up how many months
of the year, But I'm not going to commit to
the ferns.

Speaker 1 (15:42):
I don't know. Is it a question we should be asking.

Speaker 2 (15:44):
I think it's definitely a question we should be asking.
But then you look at some of those players. Jane
Watson's at the end of her career. Wilson, you could argue,
you know, she's so she's been playing forever she's been playing,
such as sixteen she had. I think it is circumstantial
for some of them, there's no doubt about it. To
pass Alby Reckitt, she didn't have a great year the
last couple of years in the Ferns. She sat on

(16:04):
the bench a lot. She wasn't given opportunities. So I
think some of that might come down to perhaps I
don't know relationships.

Speaker 1 (16:12):
Within the.

Speaker 2 (16:14):
Between management and her. I don't know Tiana Matudo. That's
the big question mark for me. She's young. Why is
she making herself unavailable?

Speaker 3 (16:22):
That's a very good question.

Speaker 2 (16:24):
Is she pulling out because she knows she's not going
to make the fitness targets? And we know how much
emphasis is placed on that, so I think, yeah, questions
perhaps do need to be made. I think we want
players that want to wear the black dress, and these
are players that could all be silver Ferans again, that
have made themselves unavailable, and maybe Comworth games will be

(16:45):
the draw card that pulls them back, just like we
saw the Fossils in twenty nineteen. But it does I
do scratch my head and go what Maybe it's just
a sign of the times that more people do choose
to take time off at certain times and certain points
of the of the international cycle. But as former Ferns,
it's like that was that was what you were striving for.

Speaker 1 (17:09):
I don't know, Jen.

Speaker 3 (17:10):
Well, and you know this is the twenty six twenty
twenty seven are being described as, you know, the two
of the biggest years in netball. You know, you've got
the Common Games next year, You've got the World Cup
the year after. I mean, these are the series that
you would be putting your hands up for, wouldn't they.

Speaker 1 (17:28):
Well, this is when you have your opportunity right right,
or you play.

Speaker 2 (17:32):
Or you have your break, or you think, well come back,
have your break now for the next few months, come
back next year for Common Games. And if these girls
need feel like they need a break, But why do
they feel like they need a break?

Speaker 3 (17:42):
Well, good question, it's a very good question.

Speaker 2 (17:45):
Is it this young generation? I don't know, but I
don't know the Sower Ferns. Hey, they play what twelve
tests over the course of the next few months. And
I was looking back, going going through some stats comparing
in our day, Dean, how.

Speaker 1 (18:00):
Many test matches we played.

Speaker 2 (18:02):
So my first year on the Silver Ferns nineteen ninety
four we played three tests against Jamaica and that was
all three. Then we skipped six years to the year
two thousand three tests against South Africa.

Speaker 3 (18:14):
Only one against play any tests.

Speaker 1 (18:17):
I'm I'm just she's just skipping over. We did play
a whole life between.

Speaker 2 (18:20):
Yes, I'm just picking out years to give you a
bit of a gauge. Yes, two thousand to four tests,
so that went up. It's on six years. We played
an extra test twenty ten. That's when we started to
play Australia more regularly, so three against South Africa, three
against Ossie. So that was six and twenty ten, twelve
years ago and now we've doubled that in twenty twenty

(18:42):
five to twelve. So by far this year is the
year where where we're giving our ferns more of an
opportunity to get those test caps up, which is fantastic.
Did you also just answer our question then that the
commitments a lot higher in in our days, so you know,
for us we only had to make ourselves available for
that many test salt wasn't as much of a huge

(19:05):
ass to take time off work or family to travel,
but it has certainly changed and that's where you see
those test Cats tick Cup very quickly.

Speaker 1 (19:13):
But your twelve twelve tests for Ferns this year.

Speaker 2 (19:17):
What I love about these tests as well is their
opposition South Africa. They're non an easy beat by the Diamonds.

Speaker 1 (19:28):
They then go Scottish Whistles.

Speaker 2 (19:29):
Okay, that will not be as big a challenge, but
then England. Really the only team you're missing from these
that in their build up for the end of this.

Speaker 1 (19:37):
Year is Jamaica.

Speaker 2 (19:38):
It's a pretty good combination of series and teams gen
that the Ferns are going to be able to line
themselves up, match themselves up, leading into a comic game.

Speaker 1 (19:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (19:48):
Yes, And you know what happened last time with Jamaica.
They you know, they couldn't quite get their act together
and they well Nepborn new Zela made a little bit
of money out of Jamaica because they didn't, they were
fined by World Netball.

Speaker 2 (20:00):
And remember what happened last time we played South Africa
at the newer Idraw.

Speaker 1 (20:05):
We drew, We drew.

Speaker 2 (20:08):
So that's when Jen and I were over there working
for Supersport. I got interviewed before the game. Last question,
what's what's your prediction for the Matchner?

Speaker 1 (20:15):
Oh, the Solver fans were won, but.

Speaker 2 (20:17):
At least ten what did I say, like ten or fifteen?
And then they went and drew South Africans. I don't
think like me after that, never underestimate the South Americans.

Speaker 3 (20:27):
But it gives a totally new look South African team.
They've got new coaches, they've got Jenny van Dyke and
our Matans and Zaneilie Idol Dana Da who is a
huge personality and so and you know, I had a
little look through the team last night and wow, you
know this, there's some names I certainly don't know. So

(20:50):
I can't wait for that series.

Speaker 2 (20:52):
And so that's in September, the first game that twenty
first of September here in Auckland event Finder Stadium. They
then go to Napier on the twenty fourth of September
and then to the Deep South twenty eighth September, IoT
Stadium South.

Speaker 1 (21:05):
And but let's jump back.

Speaker 2 (21:07):
You've just raised something talking about not knowing all the
South Africans, but they are playing around the world now,
and you talked off the air before we got to
this conversation about the English conversation about the English League
as well. So when you were at the start of
today's episode, going netball is on the rise when you

(21:27):
think about these different you know, England, Australia and New Zealand,
these different competitions. We're seeing the rise of players from
South Africa from all of these different nations. So I
think that is exciting from a netball base. Should we
And I'm just throwing this out there because I'm taking
my brain where it's going right now, because we are

(21:48):
going to be losing some players next year and we
are competing against the lights of the English League over here.

Speaker 1 (21:55):
Yeah, because at.

Speaker 2 (21:56):
The moment we're only last one international per team. We
open the door Australia. The suncourt has no limitations on
what internationals play. Where Is that the sort of innovation
we need in the A and Z next year? I
wonder if those countries can get away with it because
they have a big base of players. So Australia can

(22:17):
get away with it because they have the depth of
players coming through. We don't quite have that depth. So
the players that we've got at that top level, we
need to have them out on the court playing.

Speaker 1 (22:26):
That's my only question mark around.

Speaker 2 (22:28):
But we're not losing anyone to play because five they
are still playing. There's playing in a stronger league, arguably
in Australia.

Speaker 3 (22:35):
But isn't it interesting that so many of the players
who go to Australia to play are shooters, Yes, all shooters,
but then you look at the victims who won the
SECN and the most thrilling of circumstances to local shooters. Yeah,
that's interesting.

Speaker 2 (22:52):
But is what makes suncurt appealing the international flavor as
the internet play and the level of play their level play.

Speaker 1 (23:00):
I'm sorry, it is above a significantly above. Sorry it is.

Speaker 2 (23:04):
Do you really think that one zelin can innovate that
much in another year? So I have to if they
are going to live up to rising above.

Speaker 3 (23:12):
I think we can live up to the rising above
without them.

Speaker 1 (23:15):
Without about internationals.

Speaker 3 (23:18):
Well yeah, I actually hadn't thought about the international flavor,
but I just think we have got enough players. Let
the five six, however, however many go the players will
come in from below.

Speaker 1 (23:30):
I mean, we're not going to be the same level
as it.

Speaker 3 (23:33):
Yeah, but no, not well not straight away, but it
will happen.

Speaker 2 (23:36):
I believe you've got to develop it.

Speaker 1 (23:38):
Is it going to happen?

Speaker 3 (23:39):
Though?

Speaker 2 (23:39):
Because it's only a year that that contract's even four,
So you know, how do you know what.

Speaker 3 (23:44):
The public's like. They'll see a planer and they'll think, man,
she's good, and then you know, they'll follow her or whatever,
and suddenly she's a name.

Speaker 2 (23:52):
But that's why I'm like, why not take a chance
next year in this A and Z Premiership do something
a little bit outside the box.

Speaker 1 (23:59):
It's you to have two rounds?

Speaker 2 (24:01):
Is it just going to be the same old, same old,
Because we saw when they innovated this year Broad in
the two point shop, Broad in the time out. People
are talking about it. It's great. Actually it created conversation.
So how do we stay on that train of creating
conversation because we all agree that, yes, we get it.
Participation numbers are great, and I don't mean to compo

(24:22):
that they are great. Participation numbers are great. Kids are
playing at school, that's great. The problem is at elite
network we cannot hide from that. So do we just
keep doing all that work this year? So we just
do the same again next year? How do we keep
innovating to keep it in? Are we going to be
able to track those international players? If you know what
we're hearing is our players are going to be taking
a forty percent cut financially, So how can we attract

(24:45):
these international players if we can't even pay our own
Thinking of the mystics, they had Grace, she went to
the Swifts, they had Walum come in. Now she's going
to Lightning next year. There's a big hole in that
shooting position. The young Sophia Lafaye Lilli is amazing. So
next year is her opportunity. And I'd love to see
her start in that goal shoot position and and Tia

(25:06):
Winni Ketty really develop her. And that's the sort of
opportunity that I think arises from these players going offshore,
and she's one that needs.

Speaker 3 (25:14):
To Yeah, and I'm with you, and I think had
you heard of her before this season? No, No, neither, I.

Speaker 1 (25:23):
Remember her. She really good.

Speaker 3 (25:25):
That illustrates my point. I mean, these players are there.
That's what they're in the n L. They're in the
Marvels or the Comets, whatever, they are there.

Speaker 2 (25:34):
I'm saying that if beek for Chambers, who's just lost
her contract to the Fever, the Jamaican goal attack, if
she comes knocking, you wouldn't turn her away, would you?
And that's I find It's all Mai Comwenda remember when
she was Yes, they just bring something different to this
competition and we really for the last few years we've
had the odd big signing Wallom, for example, but we

(25:56):
haven't had many and I think they used to add
something that was really special. It certainly is challenging when
we know that this contract's been offered in England and Australia,
but that's the sort of thing. That's the sort you know,
go and I know it's a tough environment, but commercially,
go out there find those third party agreements so you
can afford to bring these these these exciting players that

(26:19):
will bring people interested in our sport because we need
to keep on top of interest in netball. I love
the fact, even though there's been quite a bit of
controversy over the last six weeks longer. How good is
it Jen that people are talking network people stop us
in the stratastic and talk netball.

Speaker 3 (26:38):
Yeah, no, absolutely. I just wonder though, I'm just going
back to Shenise Beckford, like would she be interested? I mean,
our competitions now only what ten weeks?

Speaker 1 (26:46):
Which does it take it more interesting?

Speaker 3 (26:48):
Either? Which?

Speaker 1 (26:49):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (26:49):
Which way does it go? I mean, does she have
a family, does she you know, how how does that work?
But oh look there'll be ways and means. I'm sure,
but you know, I'm still excited.

Speaker 2 (27:01):
We love that you're excited. We love that you're excited.
So so much has been happening. Make sure you keep
a look at social media because though sun Court signings
in particular, they keep rolling out and we know too too.
So far as of today, Jackson to the far Birds,
Grace re signing with a Swiss. You heard it here,

(27:22):
actually you heard it on a number of social media channels.
We're also banking on Kate Heathern and Maddie Gordon, TP
and carden Berger, perhaps also skipping over the Tasman. But
as always, we really appreciate your time.

Speaker 1 (27:34):
We love the feedback.

Speaker 2 (27:35):
Keep coming that and we love the little chats at
the cafes when someone comes and tats us on the
shadow go. I love Jenny Woods. I just never know
what she's going to say. It's absolutely brilliant Woods. So
thank you for joining us again this week. Remember you
can download Inside Netball on iHeartRadio or wherever you.
