Speaker 1 (00:01):
Inside, therefore getting you closer to the game you love
with Nadine Wilson, Annah Stanley and Jenny Woods sow By
News Talks.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Abjudda and Welcome to Inside Netball.
Speaker 3 (00:11):
At five pm last night, Nick, when New Zealand confirmed
that Dame Noling Tadua will not be coaching the Saw
Ferns in the upcoming Tiny Jemison series against South Africa,
I'm almost crying already. Event mccausen jury will step in
as head coach with Leana Liota as assistant. It is
important to remember that behind the headlines are people, coaches, players, administrators,
(00:36):
all navigating a difficult moment. This is an employment matter
and we need to respect the privacy, livelihoods and mental
health of everyone involved. None of us know the complete picture,
and spreading speculation or inaccurate messaging, especially on social media,
helps no one. You can hear my emotion because I
(00:57):
care for all these people. Right now, the focus must
be on supporting the Silver Ferns as they prepare to
take on South Africa to help us impact what this
means for the team in this series ahead. I'm joined
by former Silver firm JdE Brown and Skysbook commentator Jenny Woods. Ladies,
you can hear I'm devastated for everyone involved. No one
(01:18):
will have wanted events to unfold this way, and I'm
sure many people like myself are feeling torn. This is
an extremely complex situation, and my hope is that all
those effective or affected have strong support around them to
help navigate the coming days and weeks. Right, that's me.
I'm also jetlags. That's probably why I'm so emotional about this. Jen,
(01:41):
You have been involved as a journalist, as someone that
sat on the sideline and watched the silver ferns. Know
all the players, and I'm saying players as in coaches, management, players,
administrators in this scenario.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
What are your initial thoughts.
Speaker 4 (01:57):
I've never seen anything like it. This is unprecidented for me.
I just well, I had to Well, we knew it was.
Speaker 5 (02:07):
Coming, didn't we.
Speaker 4 (02:07):
We found out yesterday that there was something coming, something brewing,
and it was big, and so you thought, all right, okay,
you know what can it?
Speaker 5 (02:14):
You know what can it be?
Speaker 4 (02:16):
But you know there was there was some hints there,
but I didn't see this coming, and I really I
don't know what to say in many respects. I mean,
we had what did we have five players who made
themselves unavailable for the Silver Ferns selection this time round.
Speaker 5 (02:36):
Now we don't know that that means anything.
Speaker 4 (02:40):
There's the wording of the usual release that came out
that it was all to do with proposed changes to
the Silver Fern's high performance program. I'm annoyed as much
as anything with netballne New Zealand and the board. I mean,
why have they taken so long? Because when did this
whatever it was, when did it happen? And I mean
(03:02):
I think that's what I'm frustrated with.
Speaker 6 (03:05):
What about you, Jody, Yeah, I just think it's super
sad for our sport, you know, I think we are.
I think I'm just devastated that this is happening to
our sport and that our sport has portrayed in the
media and in the public and in the community and worldwide.
I've seen, you know, posts from England saying, hey, this
is big news in the netball world, but it's it's us,
(03:26):
And I think being a form of Ferns, it's that
history and that legacy that we so proudly represent and
we still represent to this day.
Speaker 7 (03:35):
And I think it's I just think it's really sad.
Speaker 6 (03:37):
For us and for me being a former silver firm,
that our sport is portrayed in this way.
Speaker 4 (03:44):
Well, there's no doubt, is there that that Nolane is
a hero in the netball world. I mean that the
words that I have seen bandied about, you know, just
in the past twenty four hours are legend. And you
know Auntie Noles and all those things that have been
sort of well not manicure because she's got them and
she's got results, But what do they mean?
Speaker 5 (04:07):
What do they stand for?
Speaker 2 (04:09):
It has I mean, it's always been an interesting one.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
Look, Nole's has got some amazing results, but let's be honest,
there's also some results that haven't been great. And what
it's always fascinated me is how she has maintained this
exceptionally strong support people do. It's like Nolan can do
no wrong. And again, no one knows exactly what's gone
(04:32):
down in this situation where I'm in agreement with you,
Jenna and Jen, jenn and I having some great chats
off offline, Jena, jennal As Vessus Dean the lawyer, we
have had some great chats offline about this scenario, and
it's I just find it.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
You know, as a lawyer, I just go back to
this is an.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
Employment situation where we have reached now and if if
you were stood down from your job, you would not
want the public speculating around why I've been stood down?
Speaker 2 (05:08):
What's led to this?
Speaker 3 (05:09):
You need to let the situation and the process work
its way out.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
What I agree with.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
You on Jen is it does feel hard to swallow
the timing. Why wasn't this dealt with earlier? Those sorts
of things make it even more dramatic. I think that
we're a week out and that is really hard to swallow.
So where have things gone wrong that we've got to
(05:38):
this very the last hour. We don't even have a
twelve named do we don't have a captain, we don't
have a cap, we don't have a twelve names. We're
a week out from playing South Africa. South Africa are
bloody good? This this?
Speaker 2 (05:50):
Jody?
Speaker 6 (05:50):
I mean, you know someone to see this coming though, right,
like all this stuff with eligibility or the I guess
you know, all the happening that neckburn New Zealand, people
coming and going, and just I feel like you could,
almost like Gin, you couldn't really see this coming, but
you kind of could you kind of could see that
there's something coming and there was going to be a
(06:12):
I guess a dare I say it? A consequence to
all these actions that have kind of been happening over
this past how many months, all this uncertainty and all
this so you like again, I'm a little bit like Janus.
Speaker 7 (06:24):
It's bewildered me. What's happening at Neitble, New Zealand.
Speaker 6 (06:27):
I don't I don't know what's happening there, and it's
it's you know, you can't speculate, but it just seems
like where is Where are those people?
Speaker 7 (06:34):
Where are what's happening?
Speaker 4 (06:36):
You just need somebody, don't you to stand up and say, Okay,
I'm here, I'm in control. This is what's happening. And
I don't think anyone is doing that yet. It's it
is really frustrating. And I mean, you see the I'm
looking at a piece of paper here from the past
player group dubbed the Fossils, and this is the you know,
(06:57):
the old silver Ferns of twenty nineteen, and it's you know,
like Casey Kolpour and Katrina Rode and Laura Langman and
they're you know, they're all getting in behind Noline and
just saying you know, well, Maria Faloo's comment was, you
know what the heck is going on? And you know,
and that's what I want to know, is what the
(07:17):
heck is going on? But it's we know it's not
a player boycott.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
Matt when or the chair of net Museum board has
confirmed that is not a player boycott.
Speaker 4 (07:29):
So I guess all we have to do is put
our faith in Evetnicals and jury and Leana Liota. At
least there are two women who we know, who we
I would imagine have quite a deal of.
Speaker 5 (07:41):
Respect for and just hope, well not hope for the best.
We do just about hope for the best.
Speaker 3 (07:49):
Jenny, what you know, as someone who's been inside that
Silver Fern environment when things haven't been great, or in
team environments when things have you know, there's been some
unsettling thing that has.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
Rocked the group.
Speaker 3 (08:04):
How do the players you know that they're going to
be processing this information, this news, it's so close to
an international series. How do they come together? Because they're
going to have to come together. They are going to
have to play a Silverfurn test in just over a
week's time. What's it going to take to pull them together.
(08:25):
What's the sort of support that needs to be pulled
around them to ensure they can turn up and confidently
play a game of netball? And is it next Sunday,
not this Sunday, next Sunday twenty first?
Speaker 5 (08:40):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (08:41):
Yeah, Look, I think you know what Gens says, right,
I mean you have to feel for a Vetmacaus and
jury and Leanne Eliotta come in into this situation and
having to almost put.
Speaker 7 (08:50):
This team, you know, bring this team back up and.
Speaker 6 (08:54):
Perform on the international stage. I would hope that the
players have had some a communication around what is happening
where it stands, and just given a little bit more
insight than what we've obviously been given.
Speaker 7 (09:05):
And given it's an employment issue, probably not, but it would.
Speaker 6 (09:09):
Be nice to know that they've had some heads up
before everyone else has had.
Speaker 7 (09:12):
This and that.
Speaker 6 (09:15):
You know, like I can imagine for some players this
is going to be really out of the blue and
that they don't know potentially, and so I can just
imagine how hard is dealing with their uncertainty. But it's
their ability to I guess for me as a player,
I would hope that they don't ignore the situation, they
know what's happening, they acknowledge the environment. But then the
(09:37):
ability to almost switch into that task and that process
mode of like we've got a job to do here
and being able to switch in between those two modes.
That's going to require a lot, a lot of support
and it would be interesting to see what the management
team wrapped around Leana and event is going to be
(09:58):
some players will we'll be able to deal with that
really well, and some players won't. And that will be
the key is that is that how can we get
all twelve, whoever's going to be selected, to be able
to step onto that court do a job, but also,
you know, kind of have that baggage sitting in the back.
Speaker 4 (10:16):
So if we take that a little bit further than that,
who are those twelve, who's going to pick them?
Speaker 5 (10:20):
And who's the captain?
Speaker 4 (10:22):
Because she you know, so I wonder I'm now looking
at these what were they fifteen?
Speaker 5 (10:28):
She named?
Speaker 4 (10:29):
Noleine named a couple of weeks back or a few
weeks back, and.
Speaker 5 (10:34):
I you know, I'm not quite sure. I mean, you know,
you'd have to think of Karen Berger or Kate Heffernan
Kelly Jury. Kelly Jury is Kelly jury'sn experience.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
Captain. I think too, and it's to your point, Jodes,
I think it's the support that's going to be wrapped
around them, and we are hearing there is support being
wrapped around them. We know the Players Association definitely have
been supporting the players and will be providing support.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
We've also heard that there's other.
Speaker 3 (11:02):
People that are coming into the environment, that professionals that
are coming into the environment to support the team, and
you'd like to think that that's the case. High Performance
Sport in New Zealand will be supporting Netboro New Zealand
and ensuring that there is professional people in place to
support them. Gen to your point, we've seen other sports
(11:22):
go through this and what you hope is what High
Performance Sport New Zealand has learned from those other sports
that have gone through scenarios when coaches have been stood
down close at any point, because it is.
Speaker 5 (11:36):
What coach has been stood down.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
Well maybe not stood down, but you talked about hockey,
Mark Hayge. You know there's different times when different coaches
shock coaches have been you know, they've stepped aside or
stood down or whatever it might be. Surely we as
a nation have learned from those scenarios, and a high
performance sport can bring in professionals that can come around
the team. And that's where I suppose the players are lucky.
(12:00):
They've got the players association. And I know in the
past people have talked about a coach's association because coaches
do often get left out on their own because the
players have got the support, but the coaches.
Speaker 2 (12:11):
Feel quite isolated.
Speaker 3 (12:13):
And so I do hope that and I'm sure that
there will be other coaches that have reached out to
Nolean and will be providing her support as well. And
again that's why I reiterate, I just hope that everyone
has got their support and strong support around them, because
it's going to take an army of support to get
through this next phase. One to just get on the
(12:35):
court in ten days time, but two for Nolen to get.
Speaker 2 (12:38):
Through this process.
Speaker 3 (12:39):
This will be devastating for Noleane and her family and
her supporters.
Speaker 2 (12:44):
Jim, you can't.
Speaker 4 (12:45):
I'm just thinking, That's what I was thinking about, because
at the moment it's all a little bit faeral.
Speaker 2 (12:49):
Yes it is.
Speaker 5 (12:50):
It's you know, it's.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
People are pointing, people are they did first, and it's
their fault, and it is it is.
Speaker 4 (12:58):
And that is I think coming from a place that well,
well you're right, Dean. I mean, I am the journalist,
but I don't know either.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
So so as a supporter, if you think of you
as a journalist, but you're also a supporter. We know
how much you love netball. You are an avid supporter
of netball. You know, what is the most constructive way
that the netble community right now can rally behind the
silver ferns.
Speaker 4 (13:24):
Turn up to the games, just get in behind them.
And you know, I think it's too easy, isn't it
just to sit on the sidelines and bitch and moan
and carry on. And they didn't do this and didn't
do that, But well how about.
Speaker 5 (13:38):
You know, what did you do for them?
Speaker 4 (13:40):
So I think that that might be the where you start.
Speaker 6 (13:43):
Also the players, like the players like get out there
and do your job, like you know, you know what
I mean, Like, get out there and put a It
is about winning netball games, and it's about being the
best that you can, but it's also about you know,
delivering to the community the people that are going to
turn up and pay for those sects that are going
to be there, so just I guess that ability to
acknowledge something's happening, acknowledge that there is an issue going
(14:05):
on there, but actually get on the court and just
do your job. Like when a netbook game back you
come together, do it as individuals, but then do it
as a subgroup, and then do it as a team
and actually like do the business on the court and
then you can deal with all the other stuff off
the court.
Speaker 4 (14:20):
I wonder you know that the South Africans must be
just loving this because you know they've just changed their coach,
Normals moved on and Jenny van Dyke's come in with
Zanelium Door Dana and quite a new look team and
they'll be thinking, oh, will the silver ferns be you
know ripe for the picking what.
Speaker 7 (14:40):
Can quite often go one or two.
Speaker 6 (14:43):
It literally could explode and we could get wiped off
the floor by South Africa. And how many tests or
actually this is a type of thing that could actually
bring a team together as well.
Speaker 4 (14:55):
Yeah, any what, I never want to call another test
like that last one which was at the World Cup
in Cape Town and I thought we were heading to
be beaten in that one. But anyway, we I think
I said that we you know, we snatched a draw,
but there's a lot of those players have changed and
what have you. So it's you know, I did not
(15:18):
think that i'd be sitting here today talking about this.
Speaker 2 (15:21):
And you and I are on the first test.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
We're on the first test in just over ten days time,
and I think, you know, if there's one good thing
about all of this craziness that feels like that's happened
in Netbul this year, is people are talking about our game,
and so, you know, people often you know, I'm trying
to be Pollyanna here, and that is great that so
(15:45):
many people care, because if people didn't care, the conversations
wouldn't be being had. So that is one thing. Change
is going to happen. It is going to happen. We're
already seeing it at that A and Z level. We're
seeing it our agibility level for silver foons. We are
now seeing it. The coaching it will be. And again
(16:07):
it's as hard to make this call, but you would
find it very hard to see Noline being able to
come back into the fold after this. It may happen,
I don't know, but it would be a tough situation.
Who knows there is change on the horizon in so
many places in netball. What we need is a really
(16:28):
strong network New Zealand board and management to lead us
through this, and they need to bring in the right
people around them to support them because there's a way
to go. There is a long way to go. There's
negotiations that need to be had with Australia, with World Netball,
all of these things.
Speaker 2 (16:48):
And here's hoping.
Speaker 3 (16:50):
You know, sometimes you have to hit rock bottom to
create change. And I'm just hoping, Jim, maybe again I'm
being Pollyanna. I'm hoping that that's what we'll see of
all of us.
Speaker 4 (17:00):
Well, so do I I mean, how how do they
How do the board members get elected? I mean I
just thought they were cyclic. Do they come in and
come out? You will cycling, you will.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
Have a certain term.
Speaker 3 (17:13):
But people, there's a combination of appointed and elected. So
some people will be appointed and other people will be
elected at the council meetings if you know the agms,
So it really does depend on which position you're in
if you've been appointed or elected. But you know, and
you just remember these people were voluntary as well that
are sitting on that board.
Speaker 5 (17:35):
See that's what I did not realize that.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (17:38):
See, that's it. That's mind blowing.
Speaker 3 (17:41):
And that's not every not every organization is like but
you know Netble is so you know.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
They are giving a lot of time right now.
Speaker 3 (17:49):
I'm not sure how much work has general role. Matt
Winner is getting done right at this moment, so Matt
Winter as well, like the whole board. Well, I could
be talking out of two here, I'm not, but my understanding,
that is my understanding. He may, they may may maybe
getting a small where support.
Speaker 7 (18:08):
As really important.
Speaker 6 (18:09):
If you've got volunteers working at the heart support, that
is where support is needed. You know, that's where, like
you say, hyperinte Sports Sport New Zealand, all those people
need to step in and and like you say, wrap
around support but also provide direction and provide some assistance here.
Speaker 3 (18:27):
Yeah, okay, anything else is sound that before we turn
to something a little bit more positive. I know it's
hard hard to step away from that because it's everything
that everyone is talking about.
Speaker 2 (18:38):
Jen any last words, last words.
Speaker 5 (18:41):
No, I know.
Speaker 4 (18:43):
I just hope it's resolved really quickly for all concerned.
Speaker 6 (18:48):
Jo's Yeah, I just feel for everyone there as concerned.
I think you know is in the situation. I think,
like you say, everyone has their own story to this,
and there's multiple story to this, and I think like
you say, I think the support is really important to
all those that needed at the moment.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
Yeah, kick heart to everyone in this situation. We hope
it is resolved as efficiently as it can be and
we send our love to everyone, players, coaches, administrator.
Speaker 2 (19:20):
It is not easy.
Speaker 1 (19:21):
The Inside Netball podcast Inside Netball powered by News Talk
z B.
Speaker 2 (19:27):
Let's turn our thoughts.
Speaker 3 (19:29):
I know there's a complete change in Sarinari now, but
we we did talk about the A and Z a
couple of weeks ago on the last episode about the changes.
There's been a few more changes now we know the
squads for the A and Z teams.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
Joes, we talked about a few of them. Let's out
of the northern mystics.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
We didn't actually mention last episode that phenix kaartaka she's back.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
She returns from maternity leave. What a store wall she.
Speaker 3 (19:55):
Has been ah and she just obviously still loves the
game because she keeps coming back.
Speaker 6 (20:00):
Yeah, I think she's on the court plane at the
Open Nationals at the moment.
Speaker 7 (20:04):
And krush down the air here.
Speaker 6 (20:06):
She's been a bit of a menace down there, so
certainly I'm sure she's probably not back to full fitness,
but I mean, a god, if you can step on
a court, that's one start, isn't it. But yeah, when
you look at the squads, you think they've kept seven
of their ten players and they've only got three new ones,
you think that they're pretty solid bit for between them
and the Steel next year in terms of the least
(20:28):
amount of changes, I think, you know, least amount of disruptions.
I have a question around their shooting in really because
I was like, what's the difference between a Maya and
a Sofair and so it's kind of like you know that.
Speaker 7 (20:40):
I thought that was a really interesting.
Speaker 3 (20:42):
Call from them, And we spoke to Mayra a couple
of weeks ago, and she's looking forward.
Speaker 2 (20:47):
To that change.
Speaker 5 (20:48):
Oh she was like a reborn she reborn woman, wasn't she.
She just felt like a new lease on life.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
And then well, let's jump straight down.
Speaker 3 (20:56):
You mentioned there so Nor then mystics obviously, but then
you mentioned the South and steal. You're right, I mean
that squat it's it's you know, they've lost obviously, Kay
heaven and that's a big blow.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
Tacota Thompson also left, but we didn't.
Speaker 3 (21:11):
Really see her at all in the end this year, Jim,
what's your thinking around their squad? Have they got the
makings of being successful in twenty twenty six? They've added
Ashley Poy, sister of Kimmil Order, so one set of
(21:32):
sisters what for another?
Speaker 4 (21:33):
I know, yes, I don't know that they've got the
makings of a twenty twenty six success, but perhaps the
year after. I'm not sure, but certainly the team that
I think didn't catch my eyes straight away, and then
actually when I looked into it, I thought, oh, yes, no,
this doesn't look bad. Was the pulse, because they look
as though they've been gutted.
Speaker 2 (21:53):
They have been getting yes.
Speaker 5 (21:54):
And then I had a talk to Jano.
Speaker 4 (21:56):
Oh Jano, who had done a lot of the you know,
the work on it, and she said yeah, because of
course I've always batted on about how you know the
central man, No, are the team underneath and what have you?
And the same for the Mainland Actually that won the
competition last year.
Speaker 5 (22:14):
They are quietly good now.
Speaker 4 (22:17):
They've picked up back an RCO for a start, but
pretty obvious they've picked up Gorman Brown. Now she is
from the Swifts. She's a teacher, she's a training partner. Well,
she was a training partner then she was a fully
blown Swift and well, father's strange, doesn't it. Also Emma
Thompson has come back now.
Speaker 5 (22:38):
I don't know if you remember her, either of you.
Speaker 4 (22:40):
She was a lovely tall midy that played for the Stars.
She had injury problems, she had concussion and then right
when she was just about due to come back and
she did her acl but so she had to go
and then there was COVID and all that sort of business.
But anyway, she has New Zealand connections so she can
(23:02):
get in. And of course the other player they've picked
up is in a Marie Ventor. Now she is the
South African who I think played for South Africa for
a number of years then was dropped I think, and
now what she's only she'd be still in the twenties,
I think perhaps late twenties. But she's looking for a
path back. So you've got a few players looking for
(23:23):
a way back to the top nine.
Speaker 3 (23:27):
And we like the fat and we talked about it
about that international flavor and it's good to see we
are getting some of those international players coming over because
they must have got a last minute phone call because
as we know, it went from one international per team
to up to two, so the phones must have been
running hot.
Speaker 2 (23:43):
The Tactics, wow, Jodes. Poor Donna Wilkins.
Speaker 3 (23:46):
She went from winning a championship to I have no
team and having to create another one. She's picked up
some good names, Charlie Bell, she's come down from the Stars.
They've also picked up Ashby from the Queensland Firebirds. So
they are another team that felt as though they were decimated,
but they've pulled together some pretty key players.
Speaker 1 (24:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (24:10):
I think I ended up texting Donna saying, hey, do
you want me to start training?
Speaker 6 (24:16):
But like you said, like I think the Pulse the Technics,
we were all sitting back.
Speaker 7 (24:19):
Going, oh, this is a shocker. They're literally going to
have no players.
Speaker 6 (24:23):
But I like you, Jen, I think they are the
two teams that show a whole lot of promise. There
both have seven new players, and both have some really
good players, and I think they've plugged their gaps with
some really I guess exciting additions that you know, like
you just look at those shooters that Donna's recruited, and
you just think, got a year under Donna, what's that
(24:44):
going to do? Like, I'm really excited to see what
she can do with it, AMLSI, because you know, we
know she's got that long range shooting. We know she's
kind of got some tricks and some things up her sleeve,
but just to manage. Just imagine her under a Donnor
and what you know, we can see potentially that transformation
and how she's going to work with those Again, she's
(25:05):
got two tall shooters in the back there that she
can actually utilize. So like, yeah, I think when we
were all thinking they were down and out, I was
quietly surprised that. Actually, you know, when you look at them,
I wouldn't say that they're probably the lowest ranked teams
out of all of them.
Speaker 7 (25:21):
When you're looking at.
Speaker 3 (25:21):
The paper, Yeah, I know, they're looking good. And actually
Josie Seymour, how cool is that? That Julie Seymour's daughter.
So she was in the Indian Ol team this year
and she's been elevated to the mainland tactics, So that's
pretty cool.
Speaker 4 (25:35):
I still think I think we have to to just
touch on Timmy Para Bailey's team.
Speaker 2 (25:40):
I mean we can go back to the stars absolutely
couse she you know.
Speaker 4 (25:44):
On paper they probably look the strongest because oh you're
read them. Or don't you think Amelia Walmsley's come home,
so to speak, Mattina Salmon come home largely because a
lot of her family are up here, Griers and clear
who I have always liked. But you know, she had
such a miserable time last year that the.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
Whole plant fashion was it plant of fashion? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (26:11):
Really will be back. Simon Nathan's back. I've always liked
to clar O'Brien yes has come up to so you know,
I am on the on the face of it, just
today of September ten, they'll win the A and Z previous.
Speaker 3 (26:27):
Okay, we're going to have this time time state that
statement and and call that Timmy Putters back as well,
because you know, we all know what a what a
tough season she had with a number of things thrown
at her. I don't think they've named their assistant coach yet.
Speaker 2 (26:47):
Is that great?
Speaker 3 (26:47):
I don't know if they've confirmed Leanadbrain is back.
Speaker 2 (26:51):
Maybe she's just considering.
Speaker 4 (26:53):
Her saw her the other night at the Daffodil. You
charity clash, and she's was speaking as though she was
going to be back.
Speaker 3 (27:02):
Okay, so maybe yeah, maybe, so maybe Okay, next week
we're going to do the preview leading into the series
against South Africa. So meanwhile, Jenny's phone saying answer the phone,
answer the phone.
Speaker 2 (27:16):
She's an important person. Normally it just dings chin.
Speaker 3 (27:18):
But we love the fact that your message is you
your own voice telling you.
Speaker 4 (27:23):
To answer the phone, because don't you find that you're
innately drawn to your own voice.
Speaker 2 (27:27):
No I cringe when I hear my own voice.
Speaker 5 (27:30):
Oh no, I'm drawn to it like a moth.
Speaker 2 (27:36):
That's the journalist.
Speaker 3 (27:37):
I'm going to also finish it in another positive sports
Way partnership. So right at the moment, we are seeing
the Netble Smart Netble New Zealand Open Champs in christ Church,
which is the old Nationals. Jody, you mentioned Phoenix is
down there playing for Auckland. Those games are all being.
Speaker 2 (27:57):
Played through the New sports Way partnership. It how critical
is that?
Speaker 3 (28:01):
Gim that that Again, there's that technology, the camera technology
they've partnered with neckw New Zealand, so people far no players.
Speaker 2 (28:11):
Can watch the action live and on demand. That's that's
quite a big step.
Speaker 4 (28:14):
Well it's quite a big step, but I'd quite like
just to wait, okay and spare my judgment until I've
seen it. I mean, I watched the hockey the other
night from Australia playing New Zealand, and you know it
was free to wear and all that on TV and
Z plus or whatever, and it was just so stop
start right, and so you know, I've just I just
(28:37):
need to hold off until I see it, just to
see what.
Speaker 2 (28:41):
We've been spoil because of Sky.
Speaker 3 (28:43):
Like you know, Sky does a great job of producing it,
but you know, we just I've just been in Mongolian
for basketball and all of that was streamed on YouTube.
You know, Jody, I'm sure most of your games for
Atago basketball, what's it called the one that that records
it by Glory League. You know, it is just the
(29:04):
way forward that you're just going to have these streaming platforms.
Speaker 2 (29:07):
So with a static camera, with a camera that follows
the ball.
Speaker 6 (29:12):
Yeah yeah, so it's a static camera and it just
follows follows the ball. So it's like it's an ai
kind of till that follows the ball. I think it's
a great way forward. Like I think that's the it's
it's going to do people like us out the jobs.
Speaker 2 (29:24):
True because there's no commentators on this.
Speaker 7 (29:26):
Yeah, but I think it's I think it's great.
Speaker 6 (29:29):
My only buger at the moment is that you have
to pay for the service. And I know, you know,
like like I was able to watch you know, Lincoln
play in Mongolia for free on my on YouTube, and
I know all the secondary school tournaments that through for
Kata Maori and they are all free, So sport Way
is there. I think it'll be a great tool and
(29:49):
I think that, I mean, it's it's not much. I'm
being a little bit, probably presumptuously.
Speaker 3 (29:56):
It's because you've probably got a small I was going
to say, but when you dealing with small budgets, it
is a lot, right Yeah.
Speaker 7 (30:03):
Yeah, yeah, so I would love to see it free.
But I get I get that it's a financial component
to it.
Speaker 3 (30:09):
Yeah, I mean, it's an interesting one and I'm completely
going to change tach here. It's it's you know, there's
this argument around kids and being able to access watching.
You know, people can go anyone can go on and watch.
And I know one of the arguments for the one
A competition the rugby firstifteen competition is they took it
off Sky because they felt that, you know, it's exposing
(30:31):
young people to a lot of people watching. But I
mean there's so many arguments and that generally though, Jen,
it's a good step forward.
Speaker 4 (30:40):
Yes, I think so, yep, Okay, spread it fast, spread
it wide.
Speaker 2 (30:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (30:45):
Well, obviously everyone's talking about netball right now. And the
good thing is we surely are going to hear over
the next few days who those twelve are. The players
need to know who's going We know who the coaches
are are going to be playing against South Africa.
Speaker 2 (30:59):
The players need to know. They need to go into
camp at some point.
Speaker 3 (31:02):
They need to train together and be in that twelve
so they can run their combinations so they can hit
the ground running against South Africa in just over a
week's time. But as we go today's episode, again we
emphasize that it's important to remember that behind the headlines
are people, coaches, players and administrators, all navigating a difficult moment.
(31:23):
Respecting their privacy, well being and livelihood is what matters.
The Silver Ferns now turn their attention to the Tiny
Jamison series against South Africa, and as supporters of the game,
our role is to back them and ensure that they
prepare to take the court.
Speaker 2 (31:38):
A big thank you to you Jody and Jenny for
sharing your insights today.
Speaker 3 (31:43):
I know it hasn't been easy, and for you the
listeners for joining us on Inside pet Book. Kei kaha
and we'll catch you next episode.
