Speaker 1 (00:01):
Inside net for getting you closer to the game you love.
With Adean Wilson, Anna Stanley and Jenny Woods sowed by
news Talks, I'd be gutta. I am welcomed Inside Netball team.
We made it for our episode twenty five and what
a year it has been. No one could have predicted
the twists and turns the Netwill community has faced. But

(00:24):
through it all the Silver Ferns they were asked to perform,
and perform they absolutely did. I am in awe of
how this team has united. They've risen above every challenge.
In fact, I'll go so far as to say so
far any that what they've achieved in the past few
months stands as one of the most resilient displays we

(00:46):
have ever seen from a Silver Fern squad. What a time,
What a way to finish the year. Yeah, the Silver
Ferns wrapping up the Northern Tour. What do you think, ladies?

Speaker 2 (00:58):
Well, I just thought it was fantastic. But boy, you
think back to the beginning of the season and all
the things that have happened that you know we were
talking about, well in what February March, Oh my god,
and some of them Noline still not quite sortid I
don't think. But oh, some of the players, some of
the players who have come out of the woodwork and

(01:19):
put their hands up. It's been phenomenal.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
They've done it for us. I mean inside netbel we've
had so much to about. They thought, right, we've got
to give something for a Dean and Annie and Gene
to talk about. But under such extenuating circumstances the last
three months, twelve tests and three months, they looked fatigued
in that third Test and they looked tired, but boy,
they showed a massive amount of resilience and you could
just tell they wanted to win, win, and finish the

(01:44):
season well. So yeah, I've got huge admiration for what
they've achieved. United, they looked united. And you've got to
give a huge amount of credit to a Vet. You know,
she's come in and been this cool, calm influence. Love
her postmatch speeches. I laugh when she said because they
talked about the fact that there was illness in the

(02:05):
cab and she was quite honest and said the girls
were going from both ends it is. And she also,
you know, said I hope we've made New Zealand proud.
And I think they can absolutely feel confident they're getting
on that airplane. They've made New Zealand exceptionally proud. Don't
forget we lost to England in the Test series here

(02:26):
at home. They've gone over there under all these circumstances
and won. But first up they had to play the
Scottish thistles Gin you had a memorable moment. They took
that easily, especially the second Test, but not as.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
Easy as they have in the past. I mean, yes,
they got closer to their being coached by Nassi now
cath Tetley, so that was good. But what I loved
was the way they did the anthem, because they rocked
and they went up and down and that was apparently
so well. I don't know, but it is now Flower
of Scotland. That's best anthem ever Anthony and Yes, and

(03:03):
they just go when the might you fear our girls
rock from SI there's a element.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
That's again to me, that's the united feeling. They were
all in time rocking. Yeah, they sort of swaying rocking.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
I don't know if the Aussies got the rock going.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
I don't know. Maybe they don't have as much rhythm
as they may. Towell Boom that was New Zealand against Scotland.
And remember that's coming off the back of they went
threes up over South Africa winning three and Australia beating
Australia all but fourteen minutes.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
We can't just gloss over those last That Constellation Cup
series I think was one of the one for the ages.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
And you think as well, there were so many times
that they could have fallen apart this team and one
they got beaten in Australia and beaten well in Australia,
the Salvans that could have been they could have fallen apart,
lost all confidence. Yet they aim back to New Zealand.
They won those last two matches and you know it
came down to fourteen minutes. It was so close it
could have depending on what time you stopped the clock,
it could have gone either way. They then went in

(04:10):
bet Scotland and then England. You know, to win that
first Test against England sixty one fifty eight Kate Hethenan
was brilliant. They set a standard early. England did respond
in the second Test. Absolutely this result. They are a
good good tea. But to me, the fortitude that the
Sulfurns showed in this final Test. We heard from Grace

(04:32):
wiki the team's fatigue. This has been a hugely long season.
But to your point, Annie, but they found a way.
They found away in that last quarter. And how about
in that second Test we shot one hundred percent, so
hef seven from seven, Grace fifty from fifty and we
still lost against England. So I think defensively that was
where they wanted to be better in that third Test

(04:53):
they needed to pick up more ball. Hello Kelly Jackson
coming to the party. Getting player of the match in
that third game. But huge amount of resilience showing. Yeah,
I was just really impressed.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
I just wanted my heart sank a little bit. And
this mustn't be taken the wrong way because when Amelia
Warmsley went on at the beginning of the third quarter,
this is the second in the second Test, and I thought, oh,
and to me, she's always looked and of course she
is just learning that goal attack position. So you've got
to cut us some slack, just a little bit bit behind,

(05:26):
beat behind, And to be fair, if it did get
her off quite quickly, I think she had about eight minutes.
But I just wondered if that was the damage done
and that was why in the third test no changes
were made.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
Have we found out goal attack now? Exactly to your point,
Georgia Heffernan, she was. She was very good today, Jim.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
She was and I mean almost as good as her sister,
but not quite yet.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
Fifty test cats now, kateffs.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
Incredible and also the other player who shone who actually
didn't get much of a run. But can you're a puoi.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
Yes, you know we I've just got so many options
now right in that mid court and defensive end. If
you swing Cardon across the wing defense, you push heaf
up to center, put Maddie into wing attack. You know,
have we found our wing attack in Maddie Gordon? But yeah,
I think that's the strength of the Silver Ferns. I
think at the moment is that they've got a lot

(06:19):
of depth, even though that they didn't make any changes
in that third test today, I think the options are good,
but they What I loved about what the coaching staff
has done is they use the Scottish tests for that. Yes,
so all of a sudden they blooded a whole on
the new players in different positions in the Scottish year
and to me, that's the test. Okay, they didn't have
the record margins, but they were smart. And that's when

(06:40):
you give people opportunities. You know, if you don't need
to make changes, don't make changes, which they didn't in
that last test, and they nawed it. And it would
have been very hard coming on, especially in that attacking
end when you're under pressure to finish off a series.
So again you've got to give credit to the coaching unit,
which again had changes. We hadn't even talked about that.
Unfortunately paul Leanna she'd had a family emergency at home,

(07:03):
which meant she couldn't go. Why I was sitting on
the beach, well, why I was always going, So that
was part of that whole to be standing on the
she was coaching. But she stepped up as well. And
in hindsight, I mean that was quite clever. I mean
it wasn't you know, it wasn't planned, but clever because
she knows the English system and she was there behind

(07:26):
the madness.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
I tell you what, I have never seen why smile
like that. But you know, and the other player I
would mention too is Tiana Maturo who was doing and
she was doing commentary and I thought, you know, she
was asked some really quite tricky questions before that first
test about the nolling thing and you know, why the
where for all that sort of thing, and she handled herself.

(07:51):
I thought so well, like she still gave an answer.

Speaker 1 (07:54):
But she's always been very articulate, has and very pushed.
Sure wasn't written off a script and just over and over. Okay,
So all in all we are just in awe of
the resilience Shan. We're going to the old book.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
Don't I say that this England team is worthy. They
have got some great players.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
That that for me.

Speaker 2 (08:15):
Fidoju I remember and you watch her and she just
tracks back and then she can comes up and it's
it's a beautiful thing. Howsby.

Speaker 1 (08:23):
I thought it annoys me. It just bounces around. She's
so damn good.

Speaker 2 (08:29):
But yeah, no, look they're exciting and they've got Jamaica
now and I think South Africa in January yep, she
I mean.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
They took the court. I was surprised today, Why would
they do that?

Speaker 2 (08:39):
Why would you do that?

Speaker 1 (08:40):
But then the mobility of that golf circle actually when
she was off dead okay, but just I thought they
perhaps should have brought her back on but she's certainly
one to watch them at the back for England. I
mean it's exciting, isn't it. All these different teams, you know,
and South Africa have their moments as well this year,
so I think I.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
Love that Third Test against South Africa exactly.

Speaker 1 (08:59):
So I think all of these teams are rising to
the challenge of high performance and improving. So it's going
to make a huge con games come next year. We're
going to come back at the end of the spot
and talk about our silver Employer of the Match, our
Player of the Series all year. Sorry, and same with
our fine for rookie. But before we get to that,
let's let's talk about this crazy year that was twenty

(09:19):
twenty five. And we're not going to go too deep
and go oh god, this and that. But first and
foremost July we got an email. Everyone got an email
eligibility all of a sudden net New Zealand, I'd review
the selection policy. They updated their eligibility criteria of which
we still don't know, which paved the way for greater
flexibility for athletes to go and play, and not just

(09:42):
Australia but England. Nine New Zealand players have gone to
the SSN not to count even Tianna make it ten.
When you think about England, Grace, Kelly Maddie, Oh, Grace
Kelly Maddie, Kate, Evnet and Cardin are five of those nine.
They are five of our starting seven for the they
are playing in Australia next year. You add on top

(10:03):
of that Gina Crampton, Jane Watson, Whitney soonest to pires
Selby Rickett. That is massive after we've been on to
absorb all of this. Now was it the right thing?
Are we excited about seeing them play in that series?
It is? Is it going to help in the Silvan's
overall positioning for Commwealth Games? Absolutely, it's going to help

(10:25):
the silver Ferns. It's going to be a change and
a challenge for those girls that need to something that
the Sun Court gives that the ain Z doesn't. Will
it affect the ain Z premiership here, absolutely, one hundred percent.
I think the Tactics is probably the most depleted team
out of that lot that have gone across the ditch.
We've got to call it the Grace the Grace rule,

(10:46):
right because essentially they've done it. M's done it for her.
She paved the way how brave of her to go
when she wasn't she was told she was never perhaps
going to play in the black dress again. So I
think that was great courage shown from Grace and was
a good decision from Neck New Zealand to make that change.

Speaker 2 (11:03):
Yeah, I agree. But what I'm interested in seeing next
year is now because we've we kind of have found
a goal attack, you know, we've got a few, but
to pass Selby Rickett, where does that leave her? I
mean she's only what is she early thirties? Gina Crampton
is back in the mix for the Swamps and you
know why is still on this to be still on

(11:26):
the max. Yeah, and so you know that's what I
find exciting because there's all these players.

Speaker 1 (11:32):
A lot of middias. Yeah. Probably that's the area of
the court at the moment that we have a lot
of players, perhaps not so many goal attacks. We still
need to find more goal We.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
Don't know what's happening with the media ran do we?
But yes, well, she's.

Speaker 1 (11:47):
Playing in doesn't she she? We don't know. Well, she's
named in a team, so but we don't know if
she'll make yourself available for the seward.

Speaker 2 (11:55):
We don't know well, I suppose we do know, do we?
You know? Well, Nolan has been reinstated.

Speaker 1 (12:02):
We're coming to that. We're going to that. Will she
be back?

Speaker 2 (12:05):
Will she be there?

Speaker 1 (12:06):
I don't know, inside Nell, inside Neall. Don't jump over
my next week. Sorry, So we're going to keep this
in order on humps. And because that didn't hapen till September,
we had something else happened in July, and that was
the broadcast deal. So all of a sudden we were
announced am Z was going to exclusively be aired on jobs.

(12:26):
We lost the jobs. Sky had held the a Z
Premiership broadcasting rights since two thousand and seven. They're gone.
We do know or we don't know still who will
broadcast the Silver Fom Games next year. But there's there's
a bit of time until then because the first up
will be Calm Games, of which Sky does have. But

(12:47):
that broadcast deal wraps into that whole domestic conversation because
the Australian broadcast deal also finishes at the end of
twenty twenty six, as will the one off deal with
TV and Z. This opens the opportunity to go into
hard negotiations with Australia Netbull. I hope they're doing that now,

(13:09):
Well they need to because we saw what happened to
the girls this year, right, you need to know what's
happening before the end of the current season because you
need to start contracting. So I mean that's still to come.
It's littlone the Knolling saga, the broadcast for what is
going to happen when you look into twenty twenty seven,
how brave Annie is Network New Zealand going to have

(13:30):
to be and be quick about it and be mulling
over and making decisions over the summer period because they
need certainty for those players. So it's going to be
interesting to see how it rolls on TV and Z right,
to see whether we get more eyes on netball because
that was always the thing we talked three to air,
freedy Air. We need to go back to Fredi Air.
People have lost the ability to know who the Silver

(13:50):
fans are. You've got to see it to be it. Rarah.
But the games are only weekend games, right Saturday Sundays. Now,
who's pretty busy on said days and I'm out the
door between my kids play sport. That's when people are
playing sport. They're not sitting down in front of the
TV watching games. So my only worry is that those

(14:11):
Saturday games are are they two games or one games?

Speaker 2 (14:14):
Two?

Speaker 1 (14:15):
Isn't there say something like the reverse? It could be
the reverse, I remember. So I just I'm just a
little bit dubious as to how those numbers are going
to go up if our games are always going to
be on said days. But I love the fact it's
free to air, it's available in more people's homes. Let's
hope that they get in and watch it. Well, I

(14:36):
must have been.

Speaker 2 (14:36):
I couldn't get over how many eyes in the newsroom
here and ended me were watching that game this morning,
the third Test this morning. It was incredible because and
it wasn't just women it was.

Speaker 1 (14:50):
And that's off the back. Do you think of the
media that that nipple has got this year for good
and bad reason?

Speaker 2 (14:57):
I think so. I think nipple is always risen. You know,
good netball has always had people watching it. I think I.

Speaker 1 (15:05):
Don't think there would have been as many eyes on
it on just a series a Northern tour and you
know in England, think there can have been all these
other things going on.

Speaker 2 (15:14):
I know, sitting here in the past, when if it's
been a Calm Games or something.

Speaker 1 (15:18):
That's a bigger's calm Games.

Speaker 2 (15:20):
Oh yeah, well true, true, but.

Speaker 1 (15:23):
Hey it any news is good news. And I think
if we've pulled some people into our great sport, then
that's fantastic and they can see what amazing women that play it,
people that run it. Yeah, and that's going to be
good for the game. The challenge though for net New
Zealand is is in the past part of the deal
they've had with Skys Skuys produced the game, they are

(15:44):
not producing it. Net We New Zealand have to pay
for that. That is coming straight out of their coffers.
That is going to hurt the pocket of Networing New Zealand.
He is hoping it's only for one year because it
would not be sustainable if that's going to have to
carry on. So that is going to be a big
piece of the puzzle. So still a lot to go
and still a lot to go. It feels in the

(16:06):
Dame Knowles Saga do we call it saga? And Sember
September we all got well the public boom Dame Nolean's
was being stood down. It was an announcement that divided
the netbul nation. It followed unprecedented coverage, unprecedented chat on

(16:26):
social media. Six weeks later, Dame Nolean is reinstated, which
kind of feels a bit weird because she's reinstated, but
she didn't go on the Northern Tour, and there's still
a sense that it's a somewhat tenuous reinstatement. And I
only say that because we haven't seen her back with
the team. We don't know what it's going to look
like with her back with the team. We know the
team are now dying to go and have some of

(16:49):
a summer break. But it's been you know, all of
us have been slightly on the inside in different in
different scenarios. I mean, it's been exhausting, it's been fascinating.
I mean, what she'll take When she came out and
did her interview, as we haven't had our podcast since
she came out, she had her had her say, which
was quite fascinating in itself because what she was.

Speaker 2 (17:10):
Saying from the start of the day, I thought that
was a disaster.

Speaker 1 (17:15):
So yeah, So do I think she just should have
said nothing because she obviously was bound to not say
some things and then but you also had to tell
the truth. Yes, and it didn't look very good, did it.

Speaker 2 (17:26):
And it came by the end of that day when
I listened to every interview, I cut my hands on.
I didn't feel that she perhaps had been entirely honest
in every interview. No, and I think, oh dear.

Speaker 1 (17:40):
Which makes me wonder whether she will in fact be back.
I mean, isn't her is her? Do we know if
her contracts has been signed to the end of twenty
twenty six a whole cha Remember there was like a
check in at the starter next year ahead of Comwealth Games,
but no one's confirmed that either. So it's no. But

(18:00):
the sense is, from what we've been told so far,
she is now the sulfur and coach leading into at
the com sign something, so she's right there.

Speaker 2 (18:08):
I couldn't work out why did she keep saying I'm
not going to get my players for a week week
and and then I, you know, I on social media,
you know what I'm like. There was socials from the
Mavericks saying yeah, we've got Noline and I'm thinking Jeepers,
which is an Australia which is based in Melbourne, and
I'm thinking, oh, okay, wild that explain it. But I

(18:33):
don't know, you're not going.

Speaker 1 (18:34):
To have a week to give before Cowealth. They have
all sorts of cans and things, and again you know
it's a harbor when you put on the spot mask
these things. Sometimes what comes out of your arth isn't
quite what you were meaning. Perhaps, But yes, there is
no way. She is only going to have one way
now silver ferns from now until Commonwealth Games are not
going to a symbol just for one week. That is

(18:55):
doesn't she want to go to a Maria and have
a have arie in the process of sit down and
let's just get it all out in the open.

Speaker 2 (19:02):
Well that's probably a really good idea that will have it.

Speaker 1 (19:05):
But isn't that a really fine balance here? Because you
get the sense the funds have moved, that they have
gone through this and I've talked about it as a group,
they've gone, We've all got different opinions. They've done a
phenomenal job of staying together united while acknowledging others. So
does that just bring it all back up again? But
I think they have to go through it together with

(19:26):
Knowles because that's the team, the culture that's that's moving forward.
They've got to air those concerns and talk about it
together as a group, don't you think I do?

Speaker 2 (19:35):
But I also think, well, if if not Noles, then
who because stay on, you mean, well who'd coach?

Speaker 1 (19:43):
Well, you have to be if she was.

Speaker 2 (19:45):
To be, as would it be. I mean it's well,
she's got a school.

Speaker 1 (19:52):
And she keeps coming back.

Speaker 2 (19:53):
Of course is Leana, And I mean we are not
well I was going to say we're not short of coaches.

Speaker 1 (19:58):
Yes, we probably are, but well, lest we know, there's
a great backup. She was always going to be the
predecessor to Knowls, wasn't she Like when we looked at
Knowles and thought, God, who's going to take over? It
was always going to be a VET. But then she
finished with the Pulse, moved to Auckland, started her new school.
You know, she does everything from teaching to cleaning them.

(20:19):
She runs that school. It's it's a it's a Mary
Boarding school, a full immersion Marty school. So it's not
just your average public school in New Zealand did double trick.
It's not full immersion. Not full immersion.

Speaker 2 (20:31):
I wonder too, I mean what happens with people like
why do you know does Whise maintain her involvement Tracy
Fear those sort of people do they sort of hang around.

Speaker 1 (20:42):
Done something well, because they certainly.

Speaker 2 (20:44):
Have And I was thinking, well, you know, you don't
want to throw the baby out with the district.

Speaker 1 (20:47):
They came through high Performance in New Zealand, so that
was the support to put around the team by High
Performance New Zealand. But you know, if Nolan's is changing
some of who is in her management squad, do you
look at the likes of Chacy or no, doesn't she
She has to make some what you believe in the

(21:08):
chat of oh that day we shall see. But it
does feel like there's still quite a bit to go right.
I've quite enjoyed the break from it in the media.
The New Zealand Police have taken over that, but.

Speaker 2 (21:26):
I mean the amount of rubbish from you know, people
who should have known better, and you.

Speaker 1 (21:34):
Just and I have no doubt newn MW Zealand will
go back and go how could we have done this better?
I think a lot of people will go back. We
hope they do, because you know, I think if if
they had potentially had different pr from the start and
how you know, the story unraveled very quickly and the
space was filled with speculation. I think you have to

(21:55):
go back and go this could have been handled better.
I'm not showing away from fair. It's been challenging and
it's got taken twists and turns that potentially none of
us predicted. But yeah, but hey, look what a year.
But the Silver Fans, they came out on top and
we've had a few amazing individual performances along the way.

(22:16):
So let's look at our Rookie of the Year for
the Silver Ferns. For me, before I go to who,
I think, I feel like we potentially are going to
have the same We're all three okay, you go three, okay,
three two one? Why then?

Speaker 2 (22:40):
Oh, just because she's so exciting, she's got such wingspan.
I was a bit disappointed she didn't get on the
court today much or today final Test. But I'm not
unhappy that she didn't because I don't like, you know,
changes that are necessary. But you know, it was just
her performance in the Constellation Cup. You know, it was

(23:00):
Kelly Jackson talking about how together when they put their
arms out and they go right across the width of
the circle.

Speaker 1 (23:08):
She's yeah, I think you know. She she had an
outstanding season with the mystics, and I think she carried
that momentum through into the Silver Ferns, which is hard
to do because an z level and international net were
two very different beasts. But she started that South African series,
got her first couple of caps, and then she comes
in and plays Australia long. One of the days where

(23:29):
you sit on the bench a dean for so many
you know tests, and wait your time, wait to get
your test against the world's best. Now these players are
getting thrown in and she is just that quiet achiever
at the back. I think the combination with her and
Jackson is one that I think will thrive in the
future and one to watch. So yeah, and what it

(23:51):
meant with her as well. Has it meant that you
could It gave the sil Ferns more chins, because it
meant you could push Cardenburger across, you could push Kate
Heathen and up the courts. It's just those options. And
I love the fact she debuted against South Africa silver
number one, nine one, but it was in the Aussie
series for me that she rarely stood up. I didn't
even know she could play gold defense and you can

(24:13):
now she can. Now you'd be thinking if you're the mystics,
you're like, well, we've got a few because Phoenix is
three sis, right yea, So maybe you'd have Phoenix at goalkeeping.
You put Catherine out there, especially if you've got to
eye head to the silver Ferns and options. But again options,
which is great, Okay, Ferns player of the Year. This
is where I think we could differ. I struggled with
the swim at Funds Player of the Year. You can

(24:37):
Clara of the Year, Jim You're you're screwing your face
up because you found it hard.

Speaker 2 (24:42):
Because there were so many was so mean?

Speaker 1 (24:45):
Oh I did. I did toy with another couple. But
I just thought her impact in the mid court, her
ability to use that athleticism get onto that circle edge
at wing a te in particular, I thought she was impressive,
and I think in that England series she came up
with some great ball and the injection of speed in

(25:07):
that mid court. I think we'd be lost without her.
So I'm going Maddie Gordon.

Speaker 2 (25:11):
Yes, and I think that's a very good call. I'm
gonna go Kate Heffernan.

Speaker 1 (25:14):
Oh yeah, to option.

Speaker 2 (25:16):
Her first test performance I thought was one of the
best I've ever seen by a wind because I used
to be a wing defence, you know, back.

Speaker 1 (25:22):
In my day.

Speaker 2 (25:23):
I don't think I ever did anything like what she
was doing. There was this one that sticks in my
mind where she just got on that she was on
the edge of the circle. The ball was going in
and she just reached up and plucked it out.

Speaker 1 (25:35):
And it was a key time. She was key time.
Test one.

Speaker 2 (25:39):
Yes, she is improving every year, she's getting better and better.

Speaker 1 (25:43):
Ye. I like that one. Yeah, well, I like both
of yours. I contemplated both of your people, but I've
gone slightly different. I went from a different angle. I'm
actually going Cardenberger. Yes, that was my other one. Okay,
great because for me, her leadership through this tumultuous never
say that word year has been inspiring, you know, right
from the start. Member she was the first person to

(26:06):
be interviewed after everything was turning to custard and she
did that with such respect and clarity, and I just
thought she came across so well. And yuse, some of
the tests she's been had impact and been quiet in
her others, but she's done something behind the scenes in
combination with her leadership group that has pulled this team together,

(26:27):
and every time I see the name interim captain in front,
I feel like that seems so unfair. She is the captain.
She's done an outstanding job. When other people have been injured,
they haven't said interim captain yet. So I'd like to
get rid of interim and make her the captain because
I think she absolutely deserves it. I think she's been outstanding.
So all in all, we're starting to see if Noline

(26:50):
talked about EV's talked about it, we're starting to see
a spine, a spine ahead of Cold Waalfe games. You
feel confident in that.

Speaker 2 (26:58):
I also think too. What I think you know make
me feel quite good is you know there are players
like Georgia Heffernan who you know we I didn't have
much confidence either.

Speaker 1 (27:09):
I'll put my hand up and own that. I didn't
think she'd be able to transition internationally. I still think
she comes and goes and tests as a as a player,
but she has really stepped up.

Speaker 2 (27:18):
Well. Ro Elie Buchanan, I'd never been her biggest fan,
but oh boy, she has stepped up. And the other one,
Kimmi Poie. I thought, you know, because she's a bit little,
but she's blimming fast.

Speaker 1 (27:31):
Well tis too. She was outstanding against England. Yeah, and
I think you know a lot of people in that
constellation cut wondered. Way kept playing Meela at wing attack
and some of us were just like, oh, you know,
do you think it's better with Maddie got wing attack
and Kate at center. But I was watching at times
over the course of the England series. Meela is a
real She's very chetty and vocal, and I can see

(27:52):
when the shot has been played she's talking to her
goal attacks, directing them I'm going here, you go here,
like I think they like that in her game, she
leads in that one attack position and I think that's
something that she's got over the other players. And what
they did really well across this English series in particular,
I think is there were times normally I'd be like
throw it, get it down, get it down, but they

(28:13):
played some really smart neet ball as well. They're like, actually,
we're not going to rush, We're not going to throw
a fifty to fifty ball, We're not going to throw
those long feeds if they're not on, We're going to
work the ball around. I mean, the work rate of
Heffenen and Kudenberger bringing that ball through the court, even
the times we would go all the way back to Jackson. Goodness,
but I felt like that was really clever. And you know,

(28:35):
I go back to last year, it felt like they
did it because they were scared to let the ball go,
whereas this year, bizarrely, it felt like they did it
because it was the right tactic to use. And that's
quite a different mental mindset. Are you using it tactically
or are you just using it because you're scared? And
so I think that's a big shift forward. So all
in all, what a year. How are you going to

(28:57):
spend your summer recovering from last year?

Speaker 2 (28:59):
I'll be just what replays? Well, that's not even a lie.

Speaker 1 (29:03):
I feel like you.

Speaker 2 (29:04):
I don't think I don't watch. I don't watch replays often,
but there are some on a wet day that I
will bring out from going.

Speaker 1 (29:12):
Through Game of Thrones again. At the moment, yes, so good.
I don't think I've watched any of those. I think
they'll come home and they'll have about six weeks leave now,
won't some good R and R beach time? They deserve it.

Speaker 2 (29:28):
It's funny. Next year though, isn't it, because of course
nine of them, well not of them, but we'll be
getting ready for SECN. I mean that's a whole different
twist on you know, a new season startings.

Speaker 1 (29:41):
And when they all leave. I bet you there's a
real variety of when they're all moving to Australia, Like
some might be going close to when they have to be,
the others might be going earlier. I mean, we're starting
to see some social media seeing Jon there, they're already there,
so interesting if they come to yes, all of these
things well, but first and foremost, thanks ladies. It's it's

(30:04):
