Speaker 1 (00:01):
It's the Best Bits of the Week with Morgan. Number two,
it's the best Bits of the week. I'm Morgan. In
case you guys are a first time listener, what I
normally do is take the best seven bits from the
show this week and count them down. Well, I'm doing
something a little different this time. Instead of this week,
(00:21):
I'm taking the best performances over the past six months
from January twenty twenty until now and counting them down
because we've had so many epic moments of performances on
the show that there's a lot to get to. Plus,
I am bringing on one of my favorites because she's
one of my best friends. It's Hillary. What's up, HIHI.
She'll be joining with me. She'll be joining with me,
(00:43):
She'll be joining me on a few segments, and we're
just going to talk a lot of music things because
this is kind of a music best Bits this weekend,
So let's go. Coming in at number seven, Marion Morris
and Ryan Hurt. Not only are they country stars, but
yes they are married and they have their first baby together,
and they came on the show to perform one of
their actual first ever duets together. It's called Chasing after You.
(01:06):
I love when artists come on and do their duets,
especially when it's a couple like these two, because not
only are they in sync as individuals, but together they're
just so magical. So in case you missed this performance,
listen to it now. Number seven The Friday Morning Conversation
with Mary Morris and Ryan Hurd. Hello friends, Ryan, your
(01:29):
last song I felt was extremely underserved. Did you know that.
I appreciate you saying that. I feel like you have
so many hits and I think this next song that
you're about to play for us is the one that
does it well. I appreciate that a lot. You've always
been I mean, my first song I ever released was
called We Do Us. It was like three or four
(01:49):
years ago, and you were very supportive of that, and
I love every other memory. And it's just really hard
to promote a song when you can't go promote it,
you know, And so I I really do. I haven't
even played that song live. It's kind of odd to
like have a single that you didn't even get to
to play out, But I'm really proud of it, and
I'm really I don't know, I think making country music
(02:11):
in Nashville is its own it's its own reward, and
it's like the work. I mean, I think you feel
the same way. The work is its own reward. So
getting to make country music in Nashville and also make
music with Marin this year is kind of the two
things that I am really really proud of and excited of.
So hopefully this song is exactly what you just said.
(02:32):
I feel too a bit and you could tell me
if you feel differently that this song is basically after
you have argued with the umpire when you were right
on the last call, meaning everybody knew, everybody knows they
messed up. You knows he messed up. He's gonna make
it up to this call regardless. You know what, man,
I I am really blessed to get to do what
(02:53):
I do and I've I've gotten to do everything in
country music. I've gotten to go to every award show
with Aaron. I've gotten to write hits for other people
and see you know, my name at the top of
the charts as a writer, and so I have nothing
to complain about. And honestly, just the fact that we
get to work together this year is just a massive
I don't I think we always imagine we'd do it someday.
(03:15):
It's kind of feel strange that it's here now. So
I'm just really excited about all of it. Everything I
get to do, I think at this point is a blessing. Also,
Marion Morris is here him Marion, Hey, goot to see
you as well, you too, ye happy? We still say
in February Happy New Year. You know I got into
this yesterday. I just heard a Larry David thing. We
(03:36):
haven't seen you since the New Year, so Happy New
Year to you guys. We should say it all every
time this year we see each other. It may be September.
Dang it, I'm gonna go hey, Happy New Year. Yea, yeah,
that's a good one. Um. Instead of talking more, I
think our audience would like to hear the new song played,
and then I have a much questions about it, obviously,
But Marion Morris is here with Ryan. Heard now Ryan
(03:58):
this song here? Like what was Was it always going
to be a duet and was it always going to
be marin? This is a really long story on this song.
We did not write this song. Um. Our friends Brindley
and Jerry Flowers wrote this song. Jerry plays bass, guitar
for Keith Urban and it's a incredible Both of them
are incredible writers and we I mean, this song has
(04:22):
been I think every single artist in town has heard
this song and held it and we were just lucky
enough to get an opportunity to record it a lot
of times to get it right. And uh yeah, it's
it's odd to be a songwriter in Nashville and not
sing a song that you wrote. But we're really proud
of it. And um, what do you have to add? Well,
(04:43):
was it when you heard it the first time? Was
it written as a duet? It was not, and we
turned it into a duet. There's a version of Maren
that Marion has written on that we ended up like
going back, like kind of taking a step back from
and and it's had a lot of versions and it's
actually like the demo of this song is really kind
of famous on music ro in. It is like writing
circles and so I feel really really blessed that it
(05:04):
fell to me and to us to get an opportunity
to put it out because it is such a special song.
Here we go Ryan Hurd with Marion Morris. Here is
Chasing after You You come over when your wind's all gone.
It always catch when I'm not that strong, and then
you wound up staying all night long. Ain't nothing new,
(05:28):
but I know you know, it's a matter of time
to you walk till you walk back out of my life,
leave me standing here long left feeling like a food. Yeah,
every time, every time you say when you come back
to you love you're running from you don't know why.
(05:51):
I don't know why let you, but I do. Guse
I love chasing to you. I love chasing after you.
(06:18):
Come on Bobby Show, Ryan Hurd and Marion Morris are here.
Got a new song called Chasing after You, which is
just fantastic. Congratulations on another great song, Ryan, Thank you great.
I saw too that you guys watched all seven seasons
of West Wing? Is that true? Did you watch them
to Ryan or just oh yeah, oh you did? Oh yeah.
(06:39):
It seems like a lot of time dedicated to a
show that went away a long time ago. It's one
of those things where like, you've heard about this show
for your entire life, but I was, you know, a
kid when it came out, so it probably would have
been pretty boring for an eleven year old, you know.
So we watched the first episode and just absolutely loved
it and kept going and you still thought it was
(07:02):
good after it was like you felt like today it
was still good. It still holds up absolutely. The cast
is great, and you see so many cameos throughout the
seven seasons of people that are now famous and it
was their first part and it started in nineteen ninety nine,
so it's really funny to watch the first season. It
looks so dated, and but it's so smart. I love
(07:25):
Aaron sworkin the writer he wrote like the Social Network
and this show and so um, it's just really really smart.
And I love the I love the score. It sounds
like a Disney Channel original movie score going along with
this like really political dialogue. But no, it's just it
(07:45):
warms my heart. It's one of those shows where you're like,
I feel way better after watching that. I don't know
if it's something we would have watched if we weren't
at home all year, Yeah, right, yeah, Well I want
to acknowledge the accomplishment that something like that is because
I tried West Wing once and seven seasons, but some
some some seasons are six seven episodes, right, West Wing
is twenty two episodes, first season, which is one hundred
(08:07):
and fifty six episodes total. So that's yeah that you
also feel really good about that. Yeah, wow, a lot
of hours we did it. It's wasted because it is
a good show. It is a great show. But no,
I mean it was a lot of episodes per season,
and it came out at a time when like there
was no TiVo, so I was looking and I think
like the most viewers they had in one of their
(08:30):
episodes for the first or second season was like twenty
million people, which is like who watches the Grammys now?
But this was back when you know, you couldn't record stuff.
You had to watch it like as it was airing.
But it's so good. Yeah, we started it over. It
was so good you started it over. Oh yeah. The
only show I can watch over and over against the Office,
and I watched it every night before I go to bed.
(08:50):
But I think that could have some sort of comfortability
with it and I can go to sleep not wonder.
There are only two shows my whole life. I've been
able to do that too, the Honeymooners because I've seen
you know what that is like the old show. Yeah,
like Jackie Gleeson from like the sixties because I knew
every episode. I watch it with my grandma. It is
comforted in the office because I go to sleep knowing
what's going to happen. I'm not all butt pucker going,
(09:11):
I wonder what's gonna happen in the gym. Yeah, but
you also like your favorite episode of Scott's Taught Lovett's
the best if you're talking about but I can't. I
can't even watch the first scene of that episode. I
get I get anxiety. I'm like, for the one time
the television got stuck on Scott's Taught, So speak about it.
(09:34):
It's so it's so cringing for those that don't know.
It's an episode of the Office where Michael promises these
kids when they're, you know, their first or second year
in school, they're gonna send him out to college, and
then he goes back to go I can't afford it now.
But like in real life, if that happened, that's like
a legal case, correct, I mean it has like it's
like fraud. There has to be something that's like he
ends up buying their books or something. It's like, dude,
(09:55):
you well batteries for the class. Yeah, calculator, how are
you support their computer? Yeah? And but what I loved
about it in the beginning is he really felt like
he could take about taking sixteen years to be this
millionaire that he had. Yeah, he thought he was going
to be rich. Get there. He had good intentions. Yeah,
(10:15):
Ryan's gonna like throw He's already like an anxious I
don't know why it bothers me so much because the
whole show is like based on that cringe factor and
it's like social situations and and uh, well doesn't someone
in that episode say, like Michael, this is the worst
thing you've ever done anyone's ever done. Have you guys
met any of the actors from the Office. I did
(10:37):
a radio I got to ask Brian a question on
the radio once. That's cool. It was cool. Question struck Yeah,
and she was fantastic. That like the nicest and she
was like, I'll do whatever you want, talk about whatever
you want. She was super nice. Have you met any
of them? I haven't know. But I did buy a
cameo from someone from the West Wing for Ryan for
(10:57):
christ Yeah, from Richard Schiff. It was awesome, Toby and
what do you have him say to Ryan? And the
cameo she called him. He called me a or she
told him I was a lovable curmudgeon Toby like Toby,
and he said, I don't know if that's something to
aspire to, but yeah, He's like, you should probably cut
that out. We'll find it annoying. Yeah, it was fun though,
(11:19):
I mean it was one of those fun things to
get for Christmas. It's hard to I think we're getting
to the point where it's like we know each other
so well that like it. The fun part is finding
like special things that aren't like have nothing to do
with money, that that you can do for the other
person for holidays and stuff. And that was like definitely
the best Christmas present. Yeah, well it wasn't free. But
(11:41):
Ryan Heard and Marion Morris are here. Ryan's got a
new song called Chasing after You, which I hope all
you guys check out. I'm gonna leave you with this
final question. I'm getting married in July for the first time.
What is your advice to me about marriage, marriage or
the wedding, Well you can do I was asking about
marriage like the whole big picture, but I'll take a
piece of each first. A wedding. Don't worry about food
(12:04):
so much like make sure everybody's taken care of, but
nobody remembers what they ate at your wedding. That's I
think people stress out about that too much. Worry about
the important stuff. Get the words right, and find each
other throughout the night. Like we were, we like employed
our relatives, like our close you know, siblings, to be like, hey,
(12:26):
we're gonna be talking to a lot of people, Please
make sure that we find each other throughout the night,
because yeah, you you're talking to everyone, you forget to eat.
You're just like drinking on an empty stomach, and you
like realize, I haven't seen my new husband in half
an hour. So that was like really important for us marriage.
(12:46):
I mean, we've been married three years. I don't know
how wise we are with this, but I would just say,
you know, especially being in the industry, it is helpful
having someone that like going in gets what you do
and never kind of makes you feel like you're having
to choose between the two. And yeah, I mean in
(13:11):
our first year of marriage, like I was touring so much,
like internationally too, Like I was in South America and
we were you were like really having to fly to
come to see me, and that was like a whole
blur the first year, but we ex but it was
worth it. Yeah, just making time for each other and yeah,
(13:33):
you go ahead. I think that the biggest thing that
we did was making sure that no matter what happened
every day, that I could, like we would talk on
the phone, even if we weren't in the same spot.
Like having that like ten minutes a day to like
make sure that you're hearing each other's voice is really important.
So honestly, what we do is not people travel for work, right.
I mean, I try to simplify it as best as possible,
(13:54):
but we've had to learn how to really make sure
to like prioritize now with a kid like our Emily first,
and then the work stuff comes and it has to
fit into that part of our life too. So I
don't know, I think it's always a dance that you're doing, book,
but we're I think the more you communicate, the easier
it is to have really fun jobs that take you
(14:15):
all over the place and you travel for work a
lot too. And I think that, man, it's going to
be really cool because she gets it and she's a
part of it, And yeah, we're excited for you. You
guys are going to have a great, a great wedding,
throw a party for yourself. Well, should we cut a
duet together? That's what I'm one after hearing today? Is
that what we should do? Well? It took us. We've
been together for five years, so it took us five
(14:36):
years to do it. So, yeah, this is our first
time really really doing a duet together. We've worked together
a lot though, we've written obviously met writing songs, and
we've we've sung on each other's projects, just in the
background and like not really taking up too much oxygen.
But it's this is fun. It's fun to get to
do this for the first time, just like both of
our names on it. And did you guys do your
own bowels? We did? Yeah, I told Kaitlin in a
(15:00):
rap mind that's funny. Do you were you kidding? I
should wrap half of them? Yeah. How when did you
write yours compared to your wedding day? I think we
wrote the week of We went to a bar and
who's we? You and me and her separately though, Yeah,
now we sat at the same table and like we're
sitting this far and she was on her laptop and
(15:21):
I was writing on my like notepad, yeahs in a bar. Yeah, together,
but you didn't see them, right? Yeah, well we revealed
the day of, but yeah, do you struggle saying them?
Do you cry? Um? I tried to do a mix
of like really sentimental and obviously promising him all of
these things that I will like do for him throughout
(15:42):
our life together, but also, you know, I wanted to
add some levity to it as well, So I said, like,
I'll put up with you constantly watching sports every season
ends and then it's the next sports season. I will
put up with that. And you put up with me
relentlessly watching the Real Housewives at Beverly Hills, and you
somehow knowing people's names in their business. Yeah, well, are efficient?
(16:09):
Was our best friend, which helps kind of like smooth
a bit of a slip. And she she was really
really nervous and she's she's actually said, in thickness and
in health is pretty funny. Yeah, she goes, Ryan, do
you take Marin in thickness and in Health? And we
were like, yeah, still holds up. I guess yeah, it's
still worrying. All right. Ryan heard Marion morris new song
(16:30):
is Chasing After You. They did it together. It's a
great song. So love you both. Thank you guys for
coming in. Thank you, and he shout out, shout out
your producer. This is my guitar player and producer, Teddy
and he produced this with my friend Aaron, who I
grew up with, and we're uh yeah. Teddy actually doesn't
office quote before every show in our little get together,
so I'll office everywhere Teddy, great job, buddy. All right,
(16:54):
there they are. It's the best bits the week with Morgan.
Number two super cool moment on the show. We had
the Frontmen of Country come on. They're a new super
group formed by the three voices of the top country
bands of the nineties, Richie McDonald of A Lone Star,
(17:17):
Larry Stewart of Restless Heart, and Tim Rushlow formerly of
Little Texas. They formed this group together and it's so
epic because when they came on the show, they performed
each of those bands like biggest hits, I'm talking, Amazed God,
Blessed Texas, and Win She Cries, which was just a
really cool moment. Plus it's nineties nostalgia because everybody loves that.
(17:38):
Right now, Hillary, if you had a dream concert and
we're talking in the Frontmen of Country right now. So
if you had a dream concert with three of your
favorite country artists, who would be performing at it? This
one was pretty tough to put together. I would say
definitely carry under what has to be there. Powerhouse vocals. Yes,
I feel like this may be a little controversial to
(17:59):
some people because they may not consider her country, but
I do. We still love her. Taylor Swift, Okay, their
country albums, like with her three year is so hard.
I could not pick a third, but I think just
because of my childhood and I love her so much,
I'm gonna go with Martina McBride. Oh, all females, All
females love it, what about you? I mean that's a
(18:21):
powerhouse vocals right there with all of them. That's my favorite,
Like a really powerhouse, powerhouse vocalist like concert. Those are
those are my favorite. I can just sit there and
all like I don't have to be up at a
concert dancing around, Like I could just sit there and
just like listen to Carrie Underwood's scene, just the phone book, anything,
and I would be in my happy place. True she is,
(18:42):
I mean talk about like starting out on American idol
is just a star. And then to see her now
she just exploded. Yeah, it's like she became a better singer.
Oh yeah. And I've definitely claim her as my entertainer
of the year, Like out of any artist I've ever
seen and of all time, she would be my entertainer
of the year for like life she does. She puts
(19:03):
on an epic show in the round, which is so cool. Yeah,
and just entertains the entire stadium like it's nobody's business.
Didn't we go to that last show together? Yeah? Yeah,
I was just sitting there and all the whole time
in like it was her, Maddie and Tay and Runaway June.
Yes I believe, Okay, yeah, those three together. I was
so pumped because Runaway June I love their album and
(19:25):
sing with Maddie and Tay and then obviously Carrie Underwood.
So I was so pumped for that show because I
knew every single song that every single act was singing.
So it was just so much fun and I had
had a blast. Those are the best concerts when you're like,
I know all the opening acts songs too. That's a
concert that you know is just like beautifully put together
because you're like I can go from start to finish
and know every song. Yeah, because sometimes you're sitting there,
(19:47):
which is fine, like you get introduced to music, but
you're like, I don't know this person, I don't know
their songs, but yeah, when you can go and you
can sing. And I'm the type of person too, I
don't like people talking to me during shows, so that
one especially and all my fri so they were very
respectful of me during that show. But I just sit
there and I'm like, please don't talk to me, like
I am just straight focused focused on these people singing
(20:08):
in the zone. And you either, like you know, most
people will go to concerts and I have a really
good time with a lot of alcohol. That's not Hillary.
Hillary wants to enjoy every single moment and make sure
she remembers it all. I soak it in. I never understand,
Like I'll have people behind me who are just falling
over drunk, and I'm like, you paid so much money
to be here, then you just paid so much money
(20:28):
on alcohol and you're not even gonna remember this show tomorrow.
Like I want to remember every single moment. I just
I love it. I love shows. I feel like that
happens to a lot of people, at least once in
their life. Yeah, but I get it, it does for sure.
I don't know. I mean, I love all of those together,
but mine is not. I mean, mine's all across the board.
It'd be Keith Urban. I feel like I know one
(20:51):
of yours, Shania Twine yep is that the one to
say yeah? And then the third One's been hard for
me because there's just so many good ones and to
mix because those two together would be really fun to watch.
Sni as an entertainer. Keith is an entertainer. They both
have like she has talents in so many ways from
dancing to vocals, and he has all of the different instruments. Yes,
(21:14):
I'm trying to think he would be like another good
one with it that would mesh well and that that vibe.
I feel like I have a third one for you
that I know you do like, I don't know if
you would like pick it? Who Dan and shay Oh
I do love a major Dan and sha which I
am too. I feel like they would fit right in
with them because they are very entertaining. They have the vocals,
(21:37):
they're so talented with instruments and lyrics. I feel like
they'd kind of fit right in with those. Yeah, No,
you're right. And I've been a Dan and Chase Dan
since the very beginning, so yeah, it fits with all
of those three. I mean, that's the same with Shania
and Keith. So yeah, Keitheran, Shania Twain and Dan and Shay.
That would be a pretty epic concert. That's who. That's
(21:57):
why it's fun. I'm one of your best friends. We
can do this because I picked your people for you.
Like that's if I were to pick Morgan's three people,
those are the three I would pick for yes, And
I totally knew Carrie Underwood and Martina McBride. It's always
the third one that you're kind of like, wait, yeah,
I don't know which one you're gonna go, like which
one are they gonna go with? But the third is
also always, just in anything in life, is always a
(22:18):
toss up. It always changes, right, Like you're one and
two is always stay the same, yes, but your third
is always going to stay like a toss up, right,
And it's such a hard decision. That's such a hard
question because you're like, oh, shoot, I love this person
and I love this person, but I can only pick three,
So who do I really want? I know? And I'm
about to make it even harder. Okay, are you ready? Yeah?
What's a country song that you can never forget it?
(22:40):
Whether it has a memory tied to it, whether it
as soon as you heard it on the radio, You're like,
I will always remember and love this song. What's just
a country song all out of all of them that
you will never forget? Do you have to pick just one?
Just one? Do you want me to go first to
help you? Yeah? Because I have a few in mind.
I'm like, oh, shoot, how do I want to go
(23:02):
with this? Well, and it can go in your direction
and sad, happy, mad, whatever, Like is the trigger mine
or else? Sad? Yeah, well so is mine, because that's
just a natural thing to remember. Yes, mine was where
were you when the world stopped turning? Alan Jackson? Yes,
because that moment in history, of that moment in time
him putting out that song very quickly after everything about it,
(23:25):
and now every time I hear that song like it
brings me back to that moment, Yeah, which is super sad. Also,
why I don't listen to it unless, like somebody else
plays it and I hear it. Yeah, such a good song,
like such a in the moment emotional raw. It's powerful. Yeah,
just everything about it, even like the music video, like
everything that went along with it, was just insanely memorable
(23:48):
in the best and worst ways. Yeah, it gives me
chills just thinking about that song. I know, I'm like
trying not to cry and I'm but's so funny you
picked that one because mine is also an Alan Jackson
song too. I could have guessed that yepan is drive
because it just brings back so many childhood memories my dad.
I know, I've talked about this before. He's got three daughters,
(24:09):
his dad passed away, and Alan wrote that song about
his dad who passed, and then he talks about in
the end like his taking his daughters and teaching them
how to drive and things like that. And I'm sure
everybody's heard this song before, but you know, the first
part of the song just takes you through a little
boy with his dad and him teaching him. And I
just know my dad was so close with his dad,
(24:30):
and so that song is just always going to be
so special. And I mean, I remember driving around town
with my dad and listening to Alan Jackson, and now
that I'm older, it's reverse. I'm the one driving and
we're still listening to Alan Jackson in that song. So
I would definitely say that one for sure. Well Alan Jackson,
I mean he just in the last few weeks released
a new album, Yes, and it was really good. Like
(24:52):
we hadn't heard really from Alan Jackson that much new
music in a long time has it been. I think
it was six years since he had released actual album.
And I know me and you are such big Alan fans.
We've talked about it before, We've actually had Alan Jackson
jam sessions in the car. But he just springs back
so many amazing childhood memories for me and yeah, I
(25:15):
can just turn on an Alan Jackson album and just
be right back in my childhood sitting in the front
seat with my dad driving around town. Yes, and on
a previous best bits like it was the last one
Hillary was on, we went on a really long tangent
about like the memories associated with things, Yes, and Alan
Jackson was one of those for you. Yeah, it was.
It's just it's so crazy how music can do that.
(25:36):
But yeah, he will always be on a list for
me something. Yes, I love Alan for you, Shania for
me always Oh yes, Okay, Well you guys can listen here,
this is the frontman of Country performing three really massive
nineties country songs from each of their respective bands. And
it was such a cool moment, so seriously listen to
(25:57):
all of it. Number six on the Bobby Bones Show. Now,
I gotta tell you, guys. When I heard you guys
that created a supergroup, I was like, I had my producer,
I said, we have to get them in immediately. So
let me introduce you guys. First of all, from Lone Star,
Richie McDonald from Little Texas, Tim Rushlow, Tim was I
what do you? And Larry Stewart from Restless Heart. Larry, Well, Larry,
(26:22):
let me start with you. How did this come together?
Oh well, it, um short came together really sort of
part time almost ten years ago, and it was his
idea and we ended up going putting the three of
us together and going overseas and playing for the troops
for quite a few trips. And uh, and we would
(26:43):
just do a few shows here and there, a handful,
a couple of handfuls a year, and then here we are, Huh,
let's do something different, guys. Well, and there's such a
demand for nineties country, I would I would pay money.
I'm not bound up paying you today, but Richie, I
would pay money to watch this this group. And you
(27:05):
guys had to see that too, Like you can go
out and play all your hits but also play like
basically a whole generation, you know, with you three massive
Mantil thirty million records altogether. Like that had to be
a part of it too, Like we could really go
out and really entertain a lot of people because of
such a demand. Absolutely, and we're hoping that's what happens.
You know. Uh, it's such a great era for music. Uh,
just the story storytelling songs and you know, the the
(27:30):
melodic you know, the music of the songs. Uh. We're
excited about this, just three of us. And the thing
is it's ah, it'll be an hour. We'll pay play
an hour and a half. We could probably play two
or three hours and still not play all the hits.
Tim When I think a little Texas, it's the I
think of the video for God Bless Texas because I
was I don't know what year was that, ninety ninety three.
(27:55):
You think of his face, do you think of that?
That's not I think about the girls because I was
thirteen years old and I'm watching CMT and I'm like,
there are really voluptuous ladies in Texas bikinis. People always
thought we were a big part of that. In reality,
we did the concert scene at South Fork Ranch and
everything else was shot without us. They took like three
(28:17):
weeks and went around the whole state of Texas, and
the cheerleaders das catwal scheerleaders, all that stuff. We weren't
there for all that, but it was fun to see it. Final,
you know, killed the fantasy. Sorry, yeah, well, I mean,
you know, I could be David Lee Roth for a minute,
but oh my goodness. Well, I know you guys have
all been extremely generous with what you would do. So
let's just call a few out. How about from Let's
(28:38):
do up first, Let's do when she cried? Let's do
a restless Heart original? Is that cool? We start with that? Yeah,
I'd love to. All Right, here we go. I brought
my piano player, with my personal piano player with me
over here, Richie McDonald, Yeah, alright, the front minute country,
Let's go the road I have traveled on its peep
(29:08):
with good and teach. It's leadered with broken country that
never quite came true. When all of my hopes were dying.
Her love kept me trying. She does her best, too
(29:32):
high the pain that she's been through when she cries.
She cries at night at night, and she tells something
that I can't hear. She tries, she try to hide
all the fields she feels in side. So I pray
(29:57):
this time I can be the manchus Coosanta a little
each time when she cried nice from a trade. So
(30:24):
I'm assuming and this could be an awkward question. Are
we cutting in thirds here? You mean money? Yeah? Yeah, yeah,
we're all going. It's all larious. We are the oldest
we are. We're decided guys. They haven't. We haven't done
a business plan yet. We already been in that with
those bands. Man, did you guys ever tour together throughout
(30:46):
the nineties two thousands? Like did did Lone Star a
Little Texas a wrestler? Did you guys ever end up
on the same same bill ever? That's a great question.
Restless Heart did a couple of shows with Lone Star
two years ago. Yeah, we did. I remember in the
early nineties we did a show opening for Rus's Heart
in Oklahoma somewhere and they were like hugeness and we
(31:08):
were starting, but we were just like they were like
the eagles to us, and we were just in awe
and I was hoping that they would, you know, be great,
and they were better than that. They were like it
was stunning. We kind of realized at that point we
had to go back at the draw board and get
get better, which was a great thing. They were a
huge influence. Were we nice? You were very kind? Good? Yeah,
it was a good day for you. It was good.
All the front men from Lone Star, Little Texas and
(31:30):
Restless Harder here they're in a new band called the
Frontmen of Country and Richie, I'm gonna come over to you.
You're with Lone Star for thirty years. That's a whole lifetime.
I told my son, and he didn't like the way
I put this, but I said, you know, in the
twilight of my career. He goes, well, Dad, you're not
in the twilight. I said, well, I'm not gonna do
this for forty more years. I'm just telling you, but
I don't know. This is just a really exciting chapter
(31:52):
to get to sing with these two guys. I gotta
imagine when Amazed hits, because it wasn't just a massive
country song. It came a massive It was everywhere it
did ever started to be like dance like you heard
that too, your ro dance mixes of Amazed. I was
on the way home from Nashville one day and I
heard that mix, that dance mix to Amaze. I was like,
(32:14):
who authorized that? What? What's the feeling whenever you cross
over from being a country star to where the whole
world is hearing your music that doesn't even know country music?
Does it feel different? You know what? It really does?
And I think the three of us have all had
that song in our careers, but uh, it just opened
a lot more doors, you know, you know, sitting from
sitting in a listening room at RCA Records and p
(32:38):
Anda Records, and you know, getting songs pitched to you,
that song pitched to us, and going from the studio
and then to watch it morph into what it did,
you know, crossing over from country to pop to you know,
contemporary hot. I don't know all the different genres, but um,
it's crazy, but it did. It did allow us to
(32:58):
do a lot more things, and and it wide in
the fan base. I'd say, this is a song that
I will never dare to sing karaoke because it is
so up there. You know. No, I can't even I
can't even like. Oh, come on, no, I will not
come on you show. How in the world are you singing?
How do you not blow out a voice singing this
every night? I don't know, I just I guess I've
(33:20):
been lucky over the years and tried to take care
of my voice and uh, just gargle with whiskey and tequila.
But other than that, you know, just gargle the frontmen
of country or here, um, let's do let's do a little,
a little lone star here here is amazed every time
(33:45):
I asked me, just feeling inside me so almost more
than I can take. Baby, when you touch me, I
can fall much love me, and it just blows me away.
(34:09):
I've never been this close to anyone anything. I can
hear your thoughts, I can see your dreams. Don't know
how you do what you do. I'm so love with you.
(34:29):
Just keeps getting better. I want to spend the rest
of my life with you by my side, forever, indearver.
Every little thing that you do, baby, I'm amazed by you.
(35:03):
That's so good. You know what I like? I know, Well,
here's what you did. You did two things. One, you
know it's the only words of chord, but you took
us to the last you know, the last chord I
had to and you flex that. They call it a
flex when you jump back and you would. I saw you.
You're just prove it to you still had it. You're
just proving it to us. And then I like to
you that because I like how the song ends. You know,
(35:25):
I'm God did that? Dang, that's so cool man. So
you uh, my wife listens every morning. She said, you
need a you need you're looking for a wedding singer
or so I'm thinking I will three of them here.
I will invite you guys to the wedding. You come
up and playing goocle songs. Dang, that's so you guys are.
That's just again, I will pay money to go to
this show. And again, I don't think listen, I'm in
(35:45):
the industry and have a career that I have to
pay to go to mini shows. Honestly, but this is
so cool because you guys have songs of like my life.
Like when you play these songs, we're gonna do God
bless Texas in a second, Like I know where I
was at the exact time that these songs hit. You
brought up a good point. I think that when we
first did this, it was just like fun, Like, Wow,
this is fun because we're actually fans of each other's
(36:06):
bands big time, and we'd love to sing on each
other's songs. But there's a common thread that runs through
the three of our groups. That's really it's authentic. It's real.
We're not trying to be you know whatever. It's just
really authentic, and it really is the soundtrack to people's lives.
That that nineties thing, that's just there's just something to it.
And as we have grown and doing these shows other
that was during the COVID thing, and then of course
(36:28):
post that, now thank god we're going you know what,
we could go out and do this and have fun
and hopefully if people are really trying to go, hey,
what show can I go see? I got enough to
see one. Well, we want to be Hey, there's three
acts here that can play a bunch of things and
create an evening of a full fabric of the landscape
of the nineties country, at least from the band perspective.
So for us, it's kind of cool, you know, and
(36:51):
you said it. It's kind of your soundtrack. It it's
our soundtrack too. It's kind of cool. A kid who
grew up in Mountain Pine, Arkansas, population seven hundred and
seventy people. Man, this is it? Like this is I go?
I know exactly where I was on the Bobby Bones Show.
Now Richie McDonald from Lone Star, Tim Rushlow from Little Texas,
and Larry Stewart from Restless Heart are here. And if
you missed the first segment, go back and listen from
(37:12):
on the podcast. But you guys are touring. I have
your all your show dates here from April to November.
You guys are on the road. I mean three three
big stars, three big tour buses, different different jets, I
mean three road managers. Yeah right, Like is this like
the Eagles? You don't get together until it's time to
go on stage. Are your bodyguard yet? We're three minivans? Sorry?
(37:35):
Are you guys hitting doing the bus again? Like you
get on the bus and going back on the road
that way it looks like it. Yeah. Yeah, we're gonna
do a lot of flight dates, a lot of bus dates. Yeah,
I mean we got on some of the shows that
we're booking now it's going to be with a band
as well, So we'll do someng with just the three
of us and some with the band behind us. I'm
telling you, if I were just getting to pick I
would have no band. I know the band would be
(37:56):
great for it, but it's just to watch you and you.
I'm sure you're telling stories too in your show if
it's just the three of you. I mean, this is primetime,
the Unplug Show. You get more of that where you know,
you get to hear the stories behind the songs, the
band shows and more power because it's the full blown thing.
But yeah, I'm all with you. Then plug things pretty cool,
So you guys go check them out. The front End
of Country have all their tour dates up, starting in Grant, Oklahoma,
(38:18):
on April sixteenth, and then all the way to the
end of November where where all these dates? You gotta
does have a website or what's happening here? Yeah, Frontmen
of Country dot com and then of course our socials
and Facebook and all that stuff that everybody has. So
we work we're kind of all over and there's I mean,
we just announced this and so our agency with Bob
and Entertainment just put that out, and so that's what
just initially splashed up quick and there's a ton more
(38:42):
coming where you know, we just haven't got them up yet.
So are you guys, because you have I mentioned earlier,
sold over thirty million albums combined. But are you guys
working on new music as well? We actually did last
year We went in and recorded a song called if
it Wasn't for the Radio. It's really a great song.
Here are harm niece together, but also go back in
(39:02):
and and just hopefully make a little pee finish it up. Yeah,
for sure, that'd be fun to do. Would you guys
rather me play some of the studio version? Or play
some if it Wasn't for the Radio yourself with three
voices and guitars and piano up to you guys, I
say the record, Yeah, I go record? Okay, well let's
hear hey, Ray give us some of if it wasn't
for the radio. Wouldn't have to play if if it
(39:29):
wouldn't for the raid? The time rons a young lovely
who's that? That's me? Okay? Alright, right, that's Richie playing
in so I might have never learned it. Sometimes you
(39:53):
just gotta let her do. If it wouldn't for the radio.
If it wouldn't for the Good Dame Party soundtrack to
My Basic Beat, something Read every Time wouldn't have a
(40:18):
place it wasn't for the ring that Bobby, because that
no look at you guys. So is there any sort
of debate on which songs in the set list, Like
what's first? When you do a show, you got a
(40:39):
lot of hits. What do you start with? That's a
great question. We usually start with me doing that Rock
Won't Roll? Okay, what do you end with? That's usually
it's kind of easy because um, I mean, we try
to make the show flow obviously from you know, from
me Larry to me then Tim. But I usually think
(40:59):
it's it's probably yeah, absolutely because it probably gets up
loves it, yeahah and you and like between Lone Star
and Russell. So there's a lot of tempo songs in
the show. It's not just ballad heavy, but that that
definitely is the one that gets people kind of rowdy.
You know. That's funny because that song when we put
that out, we were on Warner Brothers at the time
and they were like, man, guys, I don't know if
(41:21):
you should put this out or not. This is regional
at best. I mean it's just a Texas song. We
were like, look, they're singing this and salt like City Loud.
It's not even a single yet, let's just put it out.
So we did, and of course it worked. So are
you like, hey, knuckleheads, ever heard of Sweet Home Alabama?
All right? Right, yeah, I mean there's like ten thousand
of those songs. Well, let's a hack like we've been
at the show. We've sing along all the hits they've
(41:41):
They've got one song left. The front Mint of Country
are going to play their last song, and uh tim,
I'm gonna hand it over to you, all right too.
I've seen a lot of places I better around the world.
(42:05):
I've seen some pretty faces, been with some beautiful girls.
We're laughter run when this one thing still amazes me,
just like a miracle. You have seen him the lead.
I'll sing it at home. Here we go. Where got
(42:27):
best Texas with his own hand? Rot down angels from
the Promised Land. He gave up my place where they
could dance and want to see him, and brother, he's
your chance. I've been sinning to spread the message. Come on,
Bobby and see with me. Ray God bless Texas. Yeah,
(42:49):
I've been sinning to spread the message. God Bless Texas,
didn't you do? Okay, let me tell you what happened
while you guys are playing. Every show member looked at
me and was like, can we sing? Oh? Well, I
(43:11):
like our audience to hear what it really sounds like.
So if you wouldn't mind, maybe we can just go
chorus only. We can let everyone sing the chords with
He took his cue, by the way, which was yeah,
it's an eye contact thing. Like I look at him
like I'm itching to sing and he's like, not yet,
but we will. But we wanted them to hear the
from in a country do it first? All right? Jimmy
(43:31):
ready of course? Yeah? Just of course go to yead
Bless Texas his own hand, bro Dawn Angels from the
Promise Land. He gave up a place where they can dance.
Aby want to see him and brother, here's your chance.
(43:51):
I've been sick the spread a message. It's all you
give it to us. Come on, God Bless Texas. Yeah, man,
send God plus te nic show Wow wow wow. Okay,
(44:13):
let me tell you they're at the frontmen Underscore couldn't
get from it a country too many still, too many characters?
Oh is that true? Don't you would know? Is that
the rumor? Okay, yes, it must be true. At the
Frontmen Underscore, is that right? Yes? Okay, okay, thing it's
at the Frontmen of Country dot Com right right right,
(44:35):
I sing, I just you guys have to go to
a show. I have to go to a show. Let
me see if you guys. Are you guys coming near here?
I don't see you near here, not yet. I see
Beauty of Texas. I'll go to that one. Let's see
yeah or yeah. At the Frontmen Underscore, you're on Twitter.
I'm looking at it right now, looking sharp, young, vibrant.
Look at you guys, right on time. We can do
(44:57):
a quick ninety minute show for you right now. You
know what do you you guys know all the songs? Huh?
All of our songs? Yeah, Like I'm saying, oh, have
you guys practiced every song that you're gonna do on
on a show? Give or take? Yeah, And we throw
some wild cards sometimes crowds getting nuts and they'll say
something's not ours and we'll go, oh yeah, we'll do that,
like if I were if a we gonna go I'm
already there, would you guys know that one? Already there
(45:22):
take ground. I'm the sun shining your hair, the shit
on the ground. Yeah, we would know that one. Okay, now, Bobby,
do more, do more? Listen. I'm gonna let them go.
The front Men of Country, we can go all day.
(45:43):
Massive fan of all three of you guys. Thank you,
such a massive fan. I don't know quite where to
look when I talk because I'm just trying to equally
spend one third of time with each of you. Thank
you for having us. You guys. It's Richie McDonald from
Lone Star, Tim Rushlo from Little Texas and Lettery Stewart
from Restless Heart. I will go to a show if
you come near and I'm in town, I will go.
That's That's the biggest thing I can say, the biggest
bot of confidence I can give you, but you don't
(46:03):
need mine. And my final question is if you could
put a fourth singer up on this stage, who would
it be and why would it be? Bobby Bones Because
he's a great singer and a great personality and you
would totally be the NC host of the show too.
You can sing. Yeah, all right, the Frontmen of Country,
(46:24):
Thank you. Guys, go check it out. It's the best
Bits of the week with Morgan. Number two a super
nostalgic one for a lot of us, because all of
us love Joe Nichols and he's released so many good
songs over the years. He played Broken Heartsville. Yeah, I
call it tequila, but it's tequila makes her clothes fall off,
(46:46):
and all of these songs. He came on the show
and performed him again. It was like taking a walk
down memory lane with these, I mean, heartbreaking and party
songs all in one, and he still nails it. So
this was a really epic performance. Number five on The
Bobby Bones Show. Now, how are you, Buddy? I am
good man, how are you? It's good to see you know.
(47:08):
There's a lot of your music plays at my house
right now all the time. I think maybe a month
or so ago, my fiance was singing one of your songs,
maybe it was Broken Heartsville. She knew every word to it,
and I was like, well, we need to record this,
and then she's like, oh, I know every Joe Nichols song.
And so even on Instagram last week she was dancing
with the bulldog and it was too Maybe it was
(47:28):
the Broken Heartsville on Instagram too, so she's the biggest fan.
I was like, I know, I've known Joe for ten
years at this point, and so she was gonna come
up here today and meet you. That didn't work out,
so she sends her best all right, well, thank you
my best back, and that was that was a really
good week because I got more text from friends over
that one Instagram post. Don't pay attention to me unless
(47:48):
Bobby Bones says up, it wasn't even me with her.
So Joe Nichols is here, We're gonna talk about the
new song coming up in a second, which, by the way,
home Run is the new track. And I feel like
you're kind of back. I han't seen you in a while,
Like is this like, hey, I'm kind of putting the
foot back in the water, like let's do it again. Yeah,
you know that a song like this kind of is
(48:09):
good timing. You know, it's a re entry. Like you said,
it's been a little while since I've been on radio,
and uh, man, if I could use a home run
right now, we can all use a hit, but it
sure would be good timing. I don't know that seems
like a good message certainly with the world being crazy
the last year and a half, two years, getting back
(48:29):
to some stuff that's real feel, it's real good. Let
me play a club of this home run Ray Mood
you got that over there. Sign my head toward that
South Sun. I'll be touching bass with the paces all
the places I ain't been too and way too long
because I've been way too gone singing for the fans.
(48:49):
I've been missing where I come. It's time home Run.
You gotta get out and do some shows now. Yeah, man,
second half of the year, it's looking like it's open
it up quite a bit. You know, there's a lot
of states that are opening, so a lot of venues,
Thank goodness. I've seen a lot of the smaller venues
and the medium sized venues that are able to kind
of get back up little training wheels with him. So it's, uh,
(49:11):
it's looking good man. Joe has so many hits, Like
he goes out and he plays songs and you're like, dang,
I know I've worded that song. Hey. I even have
hits that people didn't realize. I've had people come up
to me after the show and go, why didn't you
play the baby and the Baby or any other Blakes
or some beach. I get that one all the time too,
so people think that I don't sing that the next show.
(49:34):
Maybe I'll do it then. But like when you when
you look back at, for example, Broken Heartsville two thousand
and two, Yeah, isn't that crazy? It's almost be twenty years.
I know, man, I've had a I've had a lot
of story in between two thousand and two and here,
and a lot of it I wouldn't like to get into.
But now it's it's been. It's been a crazy fast
you know, nineteen years. I guess it's been crazy. Man.
(49:57):
I've been very fortunate. I saw a tweet from somebody
one time that said I have more comebacks than the
mc rib That's that's great. I can't even be mad
at that. That's that's good. Would you? I know you
have a guitar up here and you're your player here.
How are you? By the way? You good? Good? Yeah?
What's your name? I'm Brian, Hey, Brian, good to meet you,
to meet you? Would you give us just a little
bit like versing chorus of Broken Heartsville? Yeah? Man? Or
(50:34):
that cowboy I had come up is sweet talking boy?
Get tongue. Had Simpson seng before I turned around? That
(50:54):
had girls gone? All I can say his BArch interfullman,
something strong here shoot passing and kiss my glass? Si,
she's have you with him here shooting girl wreck? Mind?
(51:19):
Wo that ain't you did me? I fainted? Devil drives
a cool debut. I'm watched him driving away over the hill,
not against her will. I've got time to kill down
(51:39):
and broke in the horrors. Fill nice, love it, come on.
Joe Nichols is here. Thank you. So back in two
thousand and three, I just kind of looking at this
time period for a minute. You were playing the Grand
Ole Opry and a green brawl was tossed onto the
stage and supposedly was the first time that the undergarment
had ever been thrown on the opery stage. And so
at what point did you realize the I was mine?
(52:02):
Do you remember that moment though? I do remember that moment. Yeah,
she got her broad back. She was I think a
college student here somewhere in town and Vanderbilt, I think,
and I remember it being so cool and then realizing
on him in trouble, this is the opera. I'm gonna
go for that behavior here, but some of the old
timers thought it was pretty neat too, one of those
records that you're like, well I did that, you know,
(52:24):
we got number ones and stuff like that, but hey,
this guy got a brothone at him on the opera.
You're you're a Grammy nominated artist too, I know, as
you joke about people confusing you with Blake, like sometimes
people don't realize you were nominated for the Impossible, right, yeah,
the impossible. I can name the ones I lost too,
and I'm I'm very proud I lost to Johnny Cash,
(52:45):
Willie Nelson, the Dixie Chicks, and maybe at Vince Gill.
How did you lose all four of them? Well, they
were two separate years all at once. But it was
like Johnny Cash's last album and he won Album or
the Year, and I think Baby Events got Vocal of
the Year, Male Vocal of the Year next year, I
think Willie Nelson had to duet song that he won
(53:09):
Song with or Male Vocal Performance, and and the Dixie
Chicks won I think Album in the Year again. Dang
yeah man, oh for four for four, But do you
feel like four for four and being Grammy nominated, because
that's pretty cool too, like where do you sit on
that positive or like dang so close? Not to sound cliche,
but I was shocked that I was even there. I
was really shocked that they putting my face on camera
when they were calling the nominees out. I know, it
(53:30):
looked like an idiot up there amongst you know, Yoko
Owner was sitting over here, and Queen Latifa was sitting
over here, and I'm like, I don't think y'all got
the right guy. It was just kind of my face
and they're like in for album. They put the camera
on my face and I'm just looking at the camera
like this is uncomfortable. What do I do If I win?
I walk up on the stage, I'd probably tripped somewhere,
(53:51):
you know, probably can't spit words out of my face.
Saved my life, I don't know. Probably glad it didn't win. Really,
Joe Nichols is here, You're not glad you didn't. I'm
not gonna like that now. I got a certificate, though,
you do get a certificates being a nominated artist. And
I framed it, yeah, and had it melted into this
gold looking Grammy, So it looks like I want to
Grammy no, I got a certificate before you recorded. Yeah,
(54:15):
was that? Did someone go ahead? Joe? This is a
huge hit, Like what was that process for when you
got that song? When I got that song, I hadn't
signed a deal yet, so I was still talking in
some early stages with a couple of labels. But I
really needed that song to walk in an office with
and say here's our here's our beginning of the album.
And Mike Ohens, i used to work with a Universal South,
(54:36):
found this song. He's a man, this feels like a hit.
He said, it's it's a little it's kind of current,
and I was like, well, I kind of think we
need to be current right now, you know. And he
gave me this song like, man, if we can pull
that off where it feels big, that's gonna be played
on the radio a lot. We give us a little
bit of yeah yeah yeah man, yeah yeah yeah yeah
yeah yeah. It was just another night to help you.
(55:10):
As she climbed down unto them, bo yeah yeah. As
soon as that sundress at the head lights every till
anyway out there, I was like, yeah, yeah. She started
walking over to me like she already knew me. She
(55:34):
sat down right beside me and asked if I was
here along and I said yeah, yeah, like I was
not a right along to a song on the radio. Yeah, yeah,
How could I say? Do? Whatever you're drinking, that's when
I'm drinking. Girl. You're called in the shy tonight. Whatever
(55:57):
you're thinking, that's when I'm thinking. Till I mean what
you got in so I can see? Yeah, yeah, yeah,
Joe Nicholes is here. Hey, what's home? What's home like
(56:18):
for you right now? Like? Are you on a farm?
You have a bunch of land? Now? I live on
a golf course. Never mind. I never in my wildest
dreams would ever believe I'd live on a golf course.
But it was. It was the nicest place we could
find it. We could affords not pretty good. Yeah, and
the people ever hit a ball and go That's what
Joe Nichols said enough away that it would be really bad.
(56:38):
And I think somebody did it on purpose. Yeah, every
now and didn't man, I getting the golf cart and
I have my own golf cart now, which is cool.
It's kind of more important than my truck now. But
it does have red velvet seating. So but you just
said no and then went fancier. No, No, not at all,
but it rims and it's uh, it's four by four,
but I mean that's nothing. I'm gonna run through some
(57:00):
of your clips here. I guess I got a bunch
of a bunch of hits on a clip. Let's do
a clip of Broken Heartsville, just kind of past thinking
kiss mind? Is this the most real question song when
you play a show? Ooh, I think tequila is probably Yeah,
good point too, but I think more people talk about
that song. Uh, ten year olds to eighty year old say,
(57:24):
my favorite song ever was Broken Heartsville. So I think
it's one of those that kind of lasted longer than
most of my songs. Here's a clip of Tequila mixer
clothes fall off. Did this change everything for you? Did?
Like you had? You had a big hit with Broken Heartsville?
But did this song? Was it like boom Joe Nichols
is now here to stay with massive song? Yeah? And
it was one of those comebacks. You know, we were
(57:45):
coming off of one of those albums that didn't really
have a lot of hit hits. You know, had some
radio success, but the last single took like fifty weeks
to kind of get really any airplay, and uh, and
I was like, man, we need a big, strong song.
And this came out and just pop sold a lot
of records and all of a sudden, I'm playing at
where the Titans play football I don't know what it's
called now stadium, playing out there at the CMA Fest
(58:09):
and and uh the crowd knew it and it was
pretty good moment. Yeah, that's got changed the game for me.
That was one of my comebacks Give Me That Girl
two thousand and nine jam. This one had to be
close too. I mean I would say not at but
this is a big one. Everybody knows the song, yeah,
(58:30):
believe it or not. You know, this is one of
those songs that people want me to play at weddings.
And I'm like, is that a wedding song? KED mean,
it's not like a slow dance song or anything. And
it's just me check me out playing my single. Uh. Yeah.
It was a big songs for my first multi week
number one hit, and it was another comeback. It was
on a lull, you know, after a couple of hits,
(58:51):
being gone from radio for a year or two, come
back with give Me That Girl, and and it kind
of kicked it off again. The Impossible was nominated for
Best Country Song for a Grammy Unsinkable, Unbreakable, Watch You're
riding it this one? You liked this one? Yes? Yeah,
I like everything this is like this is that? That?
That slow? This is the one people should have you play? Yeah? Yeah, yeah,
(59:15):
not give me that girl? Uh. Sunny and seventy five
from twenty thirteen. Was this another comeback? Yeah? Yeah. This
was after another couple of years being away from radio.
(59:35):
This was the album that I signed with Red Bow
on and where we had Yeah, and we walked in,
like I said, have been a couple of years of
being off radio, and we thought for a minute we
were gonna put you out first. And the president of label,
Benny Brown, he's always been amazing to me, that guy
is such a great, great guy to me. He said,
why don't you try this out first? I think we
can have some success with this. And of course it
sounds unlike a lot of my catalog, you know, So
(59:58):
we tried it, put it out there, and it popped
and it again changed the game again, you know, kind
of it kind of gave this a little bit of
a catalog, more of a field than just having a
few hits, it kind of started having more of a
you know, nine ten songs that people would would recognize. Well, listen, Joe,
I'm pumped at You're kind of back and you know
you're hearing the studio. He's got a new song out.
(01:00:19):
We'll play some more of it now. This is home
run sig Head South Sign. I'll be touching basis with
the basins as what's the worst anyone's ever mispronounced your
name on a big stage? I pulled up one of
my first shows. I did a radio show at a
(01:00:40):
at a mall in uh in Washington, DC, and it
said on today only I was a Nicholas. I don't
know what's happening because this always happened like this my
first radio tour things. So that was and it was
humbling too because you played in the mall as people
were shopping. You know, kind of felt like, oh, we're
(01:01:00):
the piano music in the lounge, or let me play
my new single. Wait before you go in there, stop
and listen. Awkward stuff. Whenever tequila came out, you know,
tequila mix your clothes fault. Do people just throw the
clothes at you when you're performing? Like yeah, I used to.
I think probably now it's been around a little while.
(01:01:21):
But when the song was, you know, really hot, getting
played a lot, I think people got got loose with
their clothes. Man, I had one. It kind of ruined me.
This lady threw some panties on stage one time and
they were so big. I felt I felt like, there's nothing.
There's no way you can respond to this because you
can't laugh like, ah, there's somebody because he could hurt
their feelings. But then I don't know. That kind of
(01:01:43):
ruined me on that, So please keep clothes on because
I never know how to take that. Uh well, listen,
can you do a little bit of tequila? Yeah? Before
we go, we can play yeah, tune up over here
by the way, shout out your play over. Yeah, fantastic.
This is Brian Spratlon. He's been with me a long
long time. We actually did a lot of that radio
stuff together back in two thousand and two and three,
(01:02:03):
and actually goes back before that. We played here in
Nashville at Rippy's on there and Fifth and Broadway. What
was that like for you back in the day. Did
people come in and go, well, you're so good, you
should get out off of Fifth and Broadway and be
a real star, and you're like, man, I'm trying, but
it's hard to get discovered. Yeah. Absolutely, that's exactly how
it went. You know. We did good with tips, and
there would be a lot of people to come in
drunk and say come see me this week, and you
(01:02:24):
get in their office and they go, I don't, I
don't remember seeing you. I got some good experience out
of those years. I had some great, great times that
I remember. How did you get discovered? What was the
moment I went in and played for Tony Brown, who
was an MCA. He's like, I want you to go
over to my friends office and play for him. His
name's Tim Dubois, and those guys formed a record label,
(01:02:45):
and I was familiar with those guys history, and and
that was my first singles. And Speaking of the Impossible
had climbed into like the top thirty or top forty,
and he's gone to radio doing really well, and I
was still playing on Broadway because that's the only place
I can make money. So you had a song that
was on the radio and you're still you were still
playing at the bars six thirty to nine thirty, still
in the bar. Yeah. Were you doing covers like crazy? Yeah?
(01:03:05):
Oh yeah, that's all you can do with one it
every thirty minutes. He plays ahead again. Now, crowds, I'm
the guy from the radio. I'm not even playing cover.
You didn't tell that this is my song. You probably
heard it seven times a day. All right, Joe Nichols
is here. Tequila makes her close, fall off, float a
little bit of this and we'll call it today. All right, man,
all right, here we go, she said, I'm going now
(01:03:34):
with my girl friends agreed at on the day. Oh
have mercy, my own bob was. Tequila makes her clothes
fall long. I'm chould her put her nightstro I don't
(01:03:57):
know what happens when she rings pus Dronglas is missing,
has the pain she bone? Yet the keel makes her
close all long. She'll start by kicking out of her shoes,
(01:04:18):
losing the hear ring in her dream, leave her jacket
in a bathroom storm, drop a contag down the scene.
Then pantyholes ain't gonna last you long. You's the DJ
(01:04:39):
push bung jovion. She might come on at a table,
yet the keeler makes her close allong oh to keeler
makes her close allong oh to Keeler makes her who
(01:05:03):
you guys check out's new song home Run Go follow
on Instagram at Joe Nichols, not Jose Nicholas. Yes, at
Joe Nichols. Joe, great to see you. A great job
and we'll see you hopefully, we'll see you when you're
making the making the tour for the number one. Yeah, man,
go Hogs. There is Joe Nichols. Everybody. It's the best
(01:05:24):
bits of the week with Morgan. Number two a super
emotional one for me, maybe for some other members of
the show. I'm not sure. But Edwin McCain came on
and he performed I'll Be and I could not ask
for more, which for me are two very emotional country
songs because they've always been that way for me. But
(01:05:45):
he came on and that was another nostalgic moment that
we all were just like, Wow, what is life right now?
Edwin McCain is performing I'll Be Um. But Hillary, I
want to talk about some, for lack of a better term,
vintage artists that you would love to see at a concert,
like nineties countrists, Yeah, countrist countries, ninety country artists. I'm
(01:06:05):
combining so many words lately. I know it was like,
how vintage are we doing? Because I don't want to
hurt anybody's feelings vintage. I've been told by the older
generation that vintage is a better word than like elder.
A vintage is like they're cool and they're they're like
a collectible. I feel like, who you know who would
be so much fun to see in concert is Reba? Oh? Yes,
like getting to sing fancy along with her at a
(01:06:27):
show because she's so I love Reba. I feel like
she can be so sassy, but she's so sweet. I
just I love rebast so I'd love to see her
in concert. Well, I think we were all at the
show when it was her, Dolly and Carrie hosting Ecmas. Yes,
when we did get to see a performance of hers.
That's not the same as a concert, but we did
(01:06:47):
get to see her perform a song, and just that
one song, We're like, Wow, this is amazing. I think
it was fancy because she was an all Red yes,
and she just brings out the sass and she's so
entertaining and she's so like I would use the word
theatric like if you watch all her music videos too,
like it is a movie. Well, you can tell that
she also has that actress side to her. Yes, she's
(01:07:09):
very good at that. Yes, so like she combined it
all into one massive career. I actually do think because Reba,
she's been doing a lot of shows with Brooks and Done,
So I want to make that my thing, Reba with
Brooks and Done. Oh aren't they doing Vegas again? Or
am I making that up in my head because I
know they did before. I feel like I did hear that.
So I feel like that would be such a fun
show to go see as those two artists to go,
(01:07:29):
oh yeah, epic because not only are they like great
musicians on their own right, they're like friends too, right,
and they have they'll perform together. So they have that
Cowgirls Don't Cry song, which is really sad. Yes, So yeah,
they're just they're great artists. They sound great together, and
I think that would be such a fun show to
go see. I agree, there's one that I'm super bummed
(01:07:50):
that I missed out on because I didn't even know
what was happening. Again, We're like getting back in the swing.
I'm going to concerts and stuff. Yes, but it was
Alabama's show here in Nashville had no idea either. Like
Tim and All went up on stage. There was a
multiple different country artists that were there. I heard Martina
McBride was there too, and I'm really pumped about it
like that, like I wish so, Like I know, they're
about to go on a crazy tour across the country.
(01:08:12):
So if you get a chance to go see Alabama,
I feel like that's the tour to go see. Yeah,
because from what I know, it was insane here in Nashville.
Of course it's Nashville too because everybody's here. They can
bring special guests out. But I'm so bummed that I
missed that show. Did you know what our phone screen
or Abby went. No. That's how I found out about it.
She was going to come to my house that night,
and she texted me and she was like, Hey, so
(01:08:34):
is it okay if I don't come tonight? Alabama's playing
in Martina McBride's going to be there, And I'm like, wait, what, Like,
first of all, what's going on? And how did I
not know about? I know absolutely you can go. Don't
worry about coming to my Hodgen com anytime. Please go
see that show. I had no idea no idea either.
And I'm also like, I know a few Alabama songs
a little bit older than me, so I'm not a
(01:08:56):
huge Alabama fan, but there's a few of their songs
that very much like bring back some nostalgic for me.
It's still fun even if you don't know all of
an artist's songs. Still having those songs that do remind
you of a childhood or remind you of just something,
it's just fun to go hear those songs. Then you
still have fun. Yeah, you go for one song and
you'll end up staying for the whole party. Yes, that's
the whole point of a concert. Yeah. So I feel
(01:09:16):
like that's one that I would have loved to see,
but that opportunity when off the door already. But there
was another one that I was thinking, Well, so I
saw Lone Star in concert, and I like, I saw
them at Whiskey Jam and Nashville wasn't a full blown concert.
I would love to see them full blown in concert.
I loved Lone Star, Amazed, Mister Mom, like all of
(01:09:41):
those songs. I've never seen them at like a full
blown show, and that would be one I would love
to see. They still sound amazing. Yes, Richie, Oh my goodness,
his voice. We were standing side stage and we were
just sitting there watching, and I'm like, oh my gosh,
because some some artists like it just it naturally happens.
They just don't sound strong as they did, like if
they had those massive vocal songs. He crushed it like
(01:10:05):
he even when he came on the show, like he's
just a great vocalist. Yes. Well, and Amy Grant was
on our show recently talking about that, how she had
to like knock down some octaves because her voice had
changed over time. Yeah, there's a natural progression of life
just happens. Yeah, which, by the way, I didn't know
until after Amy Grant was on our show, but apparently
I was in like three of her shows back in Kansas,
(01:10:27):
what her like concerts? Yeah, so you know how Eddie's
kids went and sang with Amy Grant. Yes, she still
does that now, but like back when I was a kid,
so like twenty years ago, when I was in school,
our little choir group from school got to be on
stage for her performances. She still did. Yes, like three
different times. My parents told me and I was like wait, what,
(01:10:50):
Oh my gosh. She probably would have loved to know
that if we would, if you would have been yes
here well and as soon as like my parents told
me that you know when they like somebody tells you
something and your memory gets unlocked. Yes, that's what happened
to me. And I was like, oh my gosh, I
remember dressing like an angel. That is so funny. She was,
I will say, Amy Grant. I texted Mike d because
I go get all the artists from the parking garage
(01:11:11):
and bring them in and Amy Grant was one of
the kindest humans. I told Mike, I said, there's just
something about her, like, I don't know, she's like glowing.
She's just like an actual angel on earth. She's so
sweet and so kind and just I don't know. She
just hung on to every word I was saying and
(01:11:33):
was just so polite. Yes, and like even in her interview,
just very soft spoken and down to earth, like nothing
needed to be showing, nothing needed to be this whole production.
It was just like talking to two people. Yeah, she
was definitely one of my favorite guests who's been on
the show. I love that. Yeah, and that's a massive star.
(01:11:54):
It is. And because I talked to her after the show,
because I'll bring them in and then take them back out.
And we were talking about the camp that she has.
She briefly touched on it during her interview and just
hearing how she wants to help kids and bring kids
together at such a young age to not care about,
you know, if you came from money or not, or
(01:12:15):
race or anything like that, and starting them at a
young age to like let them have fun together. She is,
she is such a sweetheart and you can tell like
she's an amazing human being. Well in two I mean,
she's in the Sweetheart Couple of Country Music with Amy
Grant and Vince Gill. So, yes, why are we surprised?
Another person who came and he was very kind to me. Yeah,
I'm just always surprising people sit there and talk to me.
(01:12:38):
So but Vince diod he was so nice too. I know. Well,
and I just feel like something with them. Whenever they
just get bigger, it's like they just they're glad people
treat them like humans. Yeah, you know, I mean, because
that's how Garth is just very like human. Yeah, just
having real conversation with them, not you know, and it's fine.
I know they love that people connect to their music,
(01:12:59):
but just being able to have those real human conversations
with them is not about their music, like, hey, how's
the weather outside right? Like Tricias being Garth Tricia ear
what came in And it was when we were in
our temporary studio and she came into where I was
sitting at and she saw my desktop and it was
just like a mess all over the place. She goes,
I'm the same way people get all over me, and
(01:13:19):
I was like, yes, people do to me too, was like,
I just connected with Trishiyar. What this is so cool?
I love those I mean, people would love to hear
those stories from you because it genuinely shows that they
are just humans. Yeah. I probably have so many just
from going to getting them and just having those few
minutes just to talk and connect with them. It's definitely.
(01:13:39):
It's fun. It's cool. No, there's a little behind the
scenes that he'll just shared with those So fun. Okay,
what about what is your favorite nineties country song? Oh? Man,
I know I'm making things very difficult. This is so hard.
I feel like it's a toss up between any Man
of Mine by Shania Twain Love It or This Kiss
(01:14:01):
by Faith Hill. Oh so so good. I am a
very big Faith Hill fan, Like, yeah, as you should be.
I love Faith Hill Mississippi girl, like I'm not from Mississippi.
I'm from Florida, and I will jam out to that soul. Well.
I feel like to all of these artists. It's funny
that you say that I had like I couldn't choose
a song. Yeah. I had albums that I thought of
in Faith Hills, that this Kiss album. I don't know
(01:14:24):
what the title the album was called. Let me see
if I can find it. It might have been would
it have been this Kiss? I can't think either. See
Faith Hill Breathe, Breathe. I think that's the album. Great,
that's a great Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's that same album.
It's the first thing that popped up on Google. So
if we're just gonna go with it, yes, but that
(01:14:45):
I mean that one. Yes, it was all females, like
I love that. Our parents were like, just listen to
whatever you want, and we chose. We chose female, the
women of iart country. Yes. Um. Because then there was
Shania Twains Come on Over album, which had any Man
of Mine and all of her very massive hits. Once
we still sing to this day. Yes, And then there
was the Chicks Wide Open Spaces album. Yes, all like
(01:15:08):
three that you just listened to on on repeat if
you were a kid. Oh yeah. And I think I'm
trying to think what Martina album would have been from
the nineties, because that's what I would have been listening to.
That would be the one with her Independence Day, right, Yes,
would have been her Greatest Hits album. If Greatest Hits
was from the nineties, then that's the album I listened
to like the most. Was that one I'm With You?
(01:15:31):
I mean those were that in Reba. I think we're
the five that were like the Really, so that's what
I was listening to when I was a kid. Oh wait, Um,
it might have been on her album Emotion, is that right? Yeah?
Maybe yeah, because that has loved the only House, great song,
great song. I'm trying to think when her Greatest Hits
(01:15:52):
album came out, Martina. We're googling things right now. We
just want to make sure and it's just like based
on what is kind of You're right, it might have been. Yeah,
it's on Greatest Hits album. Oh that came out in
two thousand and one. Well, you know what it's close
enough to me. Technically two thousand and one, we'd still
be young. Well in most of the Yeah, me and
work were both born in ninety three, but most of
(01:16:12):
these songs on the Greatest Hits would have all been
from the nineties. Yeah, so I'm going with it came
somewhere in there. But like I would say that like
SHANEI Twain, the Chicks, Faith Hill, Fifth, I told you
I'm so bad at Worth or not, faith Hill, Martina McBride,
and Reba Yeah, we're really the five artists. I grew
up later on in life loving Dolly, but I didn't
(01:16:33):
listen to Dolly as a kid. I didn't either. It
was like those main those main women you just named,
And I'm making sure I'm not missing anybody else, but
those are the five that I mean. Then I like
grew on to listen to all the other like smaller
country female artists, but I feel like those were like
the main five women. I think so too. I can't
think of anybody else. And again, I'm sure we're forgetting somebody,
(01:16:54):
but those were. Yeah, that's basically what I listened to. Well,
that kind of answers My next is, like, what were
the artists that you listened to the most growing up.
Definitely Martina Alan and then I'm going to throw these
two out there just because I was younger, but Carrie
Underwood and Taylor Swift because I wasn't able to drive
(01:17:15):
when they came out, Like I was still young. I
was still living at my parents' house, sitting on the
floor in my bedroom listening to their albums. Mom would
take me on album released day to go to the
store and get their albums because I couldn't drive. So
I would say those four were the main ones I
listened to growing up. Before you would say, like you
were twenty, yeah, I would say it would be that
age for you. I was under the age of fifteen
because I thought because Taylor Swift we were fourteen, I
(01:17:38):
think we would came out right a bin about the
time that we could start to get like a learner's permit. Yeah,
because I officially drive. I remember exactly, and I may
have talked about this on the other podcast we did.
I remember where I was exactly, like the road. I
was one who I was with when I first heard
a Taylor Swift song and me and my friends couldn't drive,
(01:18:00):
was with my best friend Sarah, her mom was driving
and Taylor Swift came on and it was our song
or Tim McGraw had been Tim mcgrawl and I was like,
who is this and she said, it's Taylor Swift. All right,
I'm going to get her album. I feel like I
think Tim McGraw is the first one she put out. Yes,
but our song is the one that really shot her up,
like Tim McGraw started it. Yeah, but this all our
song came out and like solidified it. Yeah. I would
(01:18:22):
say that because I think off the album it was
Tim mcgrawl Picture to Burn. Oh, Picture to Burn, Nope,
that's the song I'm thinking of Picture to Burn, my
guitar in our song, I think were the singles from
that album. I think I'm thinking whatever followed Tim mcgrawth
there was a song that followed Tim McGraw's Here Drops
Some My guitar followed Tim mcgrawl, because there was I know,
all these random facts, I know, but they were I
(01:18:42):
don't know why they were nervous about putting two ballads
back to back. Yeah, so that's how I do know
that for a fact, And then it may have been
for some reason. I want to think it was Picture
to Burn and then our song. Okay, no, I think
you're right, because Picture there was one of her upbeat
songs that I feel like, really like just catapulted her. Well.
Our song is still played now, so it may be
(01:19:03):
that one. But it wasn't the two ballads, because I
remember the ballads and I loved them. They were what
she first put out. But I just remember it being
like such a crazy moment because it was like this
young new female and she's coming out on fire. Yeah,
like every song is just shooting straight to the top,
and she's an amazing writer. She writes all her stuff well.
And because it might have been teardrops on my guitar,
(01:19:24):
because so when I saw and met Taylor Swift right
before she blew up, was in Wichita at a teeny
tiny theater for free, and the next week she was
on the CMA's and the song she performed is what
blew her up. And it might have been teardrops on
my guitar, but I want to say it might have
been Picture to Burn. Actually, I'm wondering I never wrote
young this whole conversation. There was an award show where
(01:19:48):
she performed tim McGraw because she had we talked about
this on her show with Tim because she walked down
to him and that was the first time she met him.
She performed the song and then walked down to him.
I guess, but that was later. I'm Taylor, and it
was really awkward. Yes, that was later because that wasn't
her first ever performance. I don't think which were you talking?
Are you talking about? No, she would have performed on
(01:20:08):
an award show because she did no that should have
said no where she did the water one? Oh yeah, No,
this was her first ever appearance in performance. She won
like three different awards that night, like Best New Artist.
I would have thought she would have performed Tim McGraw
just because it was her first single. But I don't know.
Maybe I'm gonna I mean, maybe I'm getting them all
confused because they all kind of happened right at the
same moment. Yeah, but in Maybe two Picture Burne was
(01:20:31):
just on repeat for me for so long because it
was such a good song. Say the whole album was like,
that's all I listened to when the album came out
was Taylor Swift. Yes, but yeah, yeah, so I would
say that, but she but still like like one to ten.
You aren't listening to Taylor swift Yetcause she had to
come out with music yet she's about our age. Yeah,
(01:20:51):
she's just a few years older than us. But yeah,
more Alan Brooks and Dunne Did you say them? Um?
I still some of them? And Alan? Yeah, we did
a little bit. We didn't really have um their albums
my dad because obviously we weren't driving, so I just
listened to whatever my dad had in his truck. M
We had Martina, Alan Jackson and George Straight Those were
(01:21:13):
the three that the albums that we had in his
truck that we listened to. He's still, I think, has
that little CD holder and has all these CDs still
in it. Yeah, all the CDs. Oh man, Yes, that
seems like so. I actually still have that in my
car right now out in the parking gratche I have
my it's like a big old thick stack of CDs.
It's my CD case. It's in my car right now.
(01:21:33):
That's funny. Yeah, we'll have to go through one the
height that you still have those, Oh yeah, and that
it's in my car if I need it, because what
if something happened in my Bluetooth win and connect and like,
let me just pop in a CD real quick gets. Yeah,
that's what we're gonna do. We're gonna pop in a
CD because I've got a bunch of them in there.
Oh my goodness, so long ago, especially because we had
iPods and stuff too, Like, CDs are not around a
(01:21:56):
long time for us. I feel like even when all
of that, like when iPods and everything came out, I
was still wanting to listen to my little CDs. I
still did, but like not as much as I had
used to when they were and there was an as
soon as iPods like hit in lime wire and you
could download song illegally download songs yeah, just like uh
not an infection virus to see. We do remember some
(01:22:22):
things that the older generation did. It's just we didn't
have as a long time with them, right, we didn't.
Ye're only twenty eight, twenty seven? Ye about to be
twenty eight. Yep, I'm not ready for it. Um, twenty eight.
I feel like I was okay with twenty eight. Twenty
seven was a hard one to turn, but twenty eight
wasn't that bad. So weird how they're all like different.
(01:22:43):
I think it'll just depend how I feeling in that month, like, yeah,
you'll be good. Well, we're gonna have fun. Don't know
what we're gonna do for your birthday yet, but we'll
have fun. Just coming up. I can't believe it's already July.
I cannot believe we are in July right now. I
know we're already passed the fourth of July, about to
be August. It's so true, they say, like as you
get older, like time just passes faster. It does, And
I think that's when we start to appreciate more because
(01:23:06):
we realize how much time does go by and how
much time we do waste. So yeah, it's like when
you're younger and you're in college, you're like, oh my gosh,
everything moves so slow. Yeah, because we really taking tests
and having your write papers. Yeah. I remember being in college,
like I cannot wait for the day that I don't
have to write a paper ever or take another test,
which I still don't want to ever have to write
(01:23:27):
another paper or take another test. But I mean I
remember just I couldn't wait to get out, and I
wish I would have enjoyed it a little more and
slowed down a little. I know. So if your college
could listen to this right now, slow down, enjoy it,
and you're officially those old people that telling you to
slow down, yes, because then you have to become a
real official adult, and it's not fun. It's not fun.
It's not fun. Let me tell you. Oh man, Okay,
(01:23:51):
Well here is Edwin McCain. You know, I'm probably gonna
cry after that segment because I'm old and these are
making me feel old. But it was so good he
performed I'll be and I could not ask for more.
Number four on The Bobby Bones Show Now Edwin McCain.
I'm a big fan. I tell you guys. When I
was in college, I saved up all my money and
(01:24:12):
I went across and OBIU was a school where the
rich kids went, and Edwin was playing the rich kids school,
and I was like, I love Edwin McCain. Saved him
with tickets. I got the very back of the theater
and I watched him play for an hour and a half,
him and a horn player, and it was really I
remember so much about it, ed one. So I'm super
super glad you're here and I don't have to pay
for this show. I feel I feel like maybe maybe
(01:24:32):
we jipped you for only showing up with the guitar
and saxophone. But you know, we played in any iteration
back then. We could show up and play. However, So yeah,
I was looking at your TikTok here and that's that's
actually what brought you here. It's so bizarre, this whole thing,
how I got here. Anybody tells you that they have
(01:24:55):
a plan in the music business, they're just lying. It's
just all accidental. It's a beat accident. My entire life
is a giant accident. I was obviously a big fan
growing up, and then I'm flipping TikTok and I see
you singing with people doing oh be York, and I'm like,
holy crap, he's he's played. Let's get him on the show.
And so we call you and you're like, yeah, I'll
(01:25:15):
be right over and here you can drove over. I'm
so I'm I'm just shocked. I was like, people are like,
why are you going on there? I was like I
don't know. I was like, I'm gonna play a couple
of clips real quick, in case you've been living in
a rock under a rockers. Here's I'll be and here
(01:25:37):
is I could not ask for more. I could not ask. Yeah,
it's a little aggressive, you know what I mean, Like,
you know that's that's begging to have a parody video.
You know, somebody throwing a bouquet of roses at their girlfriend.
(01:25:59):
Is it true? And you can true or false me
on this that you got your record deal because Darius
and the Hood, you guys were like, you gotta sign
this guy pretty much. Yeah, no, I was with I
was with them when they got signed to Atlantic and
they basically said, yeah, we're bringing him with us. And
they were like, yeah, whatever, we'll take him to and
you know they and it was, Yeah, it's a miracle.
(01:26:21):
I spent my life trying to repay those guys for
what they did for me. And I say of this
all the time. Make if you haven't read Malcolm Gladwell's
book Outliers everyone, especially if you're in your twenties and
you're trying to figure out what you're gonna do with
your life, read that book because the importance of timing
can't be overstated. Like, I worked really hard, I'll never
(01:26:43):
deny that, but the when I was was as important
as anything I did. The timing was perfect, The everybody
was tired of grunge. They just got they were so
tired of staring into their lent filled belly button. And
then Hoodie and the Playfish came along and we were like,
we have friends again, and yay, and whoever that guy is, yeah,
(01:27:06):
we like him too, And that was it. You know,
we were just really really right place right time. Edwin
McCann is here, he's gonna play in a second. Well, actually,
I like to do this. The TikTok that I saw him,
that that brought him back into my life was him
duetting with someone because he would play the first part
of I'll Be and they would sing the second. And
I thought I was gonna jump in and do it
(01:27:27):
to do one too, but it just hurt. You should
do it and I'm not. But Amy is over here.
I think we can try this. I'll be Edwin and Amy.
Oh boy, I'll be captivated, Hang from you live, stared
up on the galos horta, hang from a Bey'll crying shoulder,
(01:27:59):
I'll be love suicide, being better when I'm molder. Oh
be the greatest fan of your life? Hey, what does
that mean? Love suicide? By the way, like hell me,
(01:28:20):
I've been singing it for twenty years. I don't know
what it means. You know, I was pretty good at
screwing up relationships it in my early twenties, and that
was sort of the explanation for it. You know, I
would I didn't do. I didn't do very well. So
I was the end of them. So I that was
(01:28:42):
how the line came out. And it's funny because the
record company and every producer I ever worked with tried
to get me to remove that line. And I was
just like, I said, I'm I have the oppositional defiance disorder,
and you know it, just refused dug my heels in
and refused to change the lyric and and and that
(01:29:03):
actually ended up working in my favor because when Hillary
Duff re released the song on a soundtrack, they edited
out that lyric and I was like, you can't do that.
And I called my lawyers. I was like, they can't
do that. Can They were like, no, they can't. And
I was like, okay, So that's how I have my bus. Now. Yeah,
(01:29:25):
we've thought about changing the name to the bus to
Hillary's Duff. But then Edwin McCann is here, how about this,
Let's do a verse and chorus of I'll be because
I'm gonna ask you do something else too, so we
don't verse and chorus's I'll close your eyes, oh yes,
and picture ourselves, the strands in your eyes, the colored
(01:29:46):
them wonderful. Stop steal my breath, emeralds from mountains, thrive
starts the sky. Never feeling down in town, don't be.
(01:30:06):
We belong together, Dress it down with the trappings of
the love. Be captain, feedd hang from your lips, stand
out on the gallows, party, hang from far, and I
(01:30:32):
will be You're crying shouldered, I will be come suicide,
and I will be better when I'm only I will
be the greatest family live Come like the greatest fan
(01:30:59):
of you. Horn come on the estrogen bazooka, as we'd
like to call let me sax players. Man. You ever
see a sax flayer with a personality? No, well, I'd
like to hear if I can keep requesting songs in
my favorite part of my jobs, when I have people
come in that I really like and I can go, hey,
(01:31:19):
do this if you don't mind. I could not ask
for more, which may have been my jam, even more
than I'll be. And then Sarah Evans did a great
job on this song too. This a little bigger thing
for I'm lying here with you, listening to rain, smiling,
(01:31:41):
just to see smiling upon your face. These are the
moments now, thank God that I'm a lie. These are
the moments I remember, my lie. I've got all I'm
(01:32:02):
waiting for, and I could not ask for more. He
comes to the aggressive part. I could not ask for
more than the stime to Gil, cannot ask for more
than this time with you, and nothing prayer have been answering,
(01:32:25):
not been dreamed. My ass come true right here in
this moment. It's right where I'm meant to be you,
with you, you when Edward became one. That's awesome. That's
(01:32:56):
love having you here. I think you guys would all
say the same thing, right. This is, of course awesome,
great interview, great great performance. And when you're eighty and
you have to take it down a couple and you
want to come and sing it again, I'm gonna I'm
gonna be like Molly Crew and just played the tracks,
just sing sing two tracks. You can do that. They
do that well pop stars. There's a track playing and
they sing over and under it and everything else. Like
(01:33:18):
the last I went to. I'm a huge crew fan
and I went to the you know, they had more
fire and tracks underneath there. I was like, oh, okay,
this is what you do. Yeah, and nobody faults and
for it for people were there for the experience. Lose
all right. There he is Edwie McCain. It's the best
Bits of the Week with Morgan. Number two Travis Denning
(01:33:41):
came on our show and he has some great songs
of his own, but this time he performed a cover
of Blink one eighty two What's My Age Again? And
something about Travis Denning performing such an awesome alternative song
was just insane, Like he really dominated this cover. So
if you missed it, this is also one to listen to.
(01:34:01):
Number three on The Bobby Bones Show now Travis den
Travis has co hosted this show. Travis has had a
number one song with after a few Gonna play a
little bit of this here you good? After he was
voted the prestigious CRS twenty twenty one new face. Yeah
(01:34:23):
Travis Denny is here. Yeah, I've been I've been told
I need a new face. I'm sorry, Catilee. So this
is what happened. I was doing this thing on TikTok
where I said, hey Stitch and put you playing after
I say this and I want to see you. We're
gonna brings people up. Well, Travis goes, I like to
make a submission and play the little part that you
played on the TikTok was cut off, and he goes,
(01:34:46):
I wrote this, and it's obviously Blink one eighty two.
What's my age again? And so I hit him up.
I was like, Travis can play that on the show.
I'd love to hear Blink one eighty two on a banjo. Now,
did you have to learn the whole song after? Oh? Absolutely?
Last night I sat there and would shed at this
whole thing. I was obviously a huge Blink fan growing up,
but just did not really learn the words as a,
(01:35:09):
you know, eight year old. So I learned him as
a twenty eight year old last night. Okay, well, before
we talk about anything else. Here he is with his
band Joe. It is Travis Denning playing Blank one Eddy two.
Here we go. I two gar out. It was a
Friday night. I walk along to get the feeling right.
(01:35:31):
We're starting magging out. She two got my pass, Hannah,
turn on the TV. That's about the time she walked
away from me. My body lass, you win your twenty three?
And now some morn these my TV shows. What the
hill is a d D? My frishee? I shit at
my age? What's my age again? What's my age? A game?
(01:35:53):
Later on on the drive home, I caught her mom
from my pay phone when I said I was cops
and your husband's in jail. The stages down on the TV.
That's about the time that girl hung up on me.
When he likes you win your twenty three and now
some morning music to poll cost what the hell is
(01:36:14):
wrong with me? And my friends say, yah, shot at
my age? What's my age again? What's my age again?
Here he is Travis Dad, Come on, can you play
any song on that? Could you play the of course A?
After a few absolutely, here we go in my bandet voice. Yeah, yeah,
(01:36:35):
you can do vers after a few dreams. It's always
the same thing. We find ourselves offstin conversation at the
barn after a few songs, and kind of at you
hold home we found ourselves seen in up against his
spine car sit the side to sig about giving up
(01:36:56):
bad too if we didn't want to wind up finding
in my my bed like we always do after ye
after that, every time, that's the out, regardless of when
(01:37:19):
we get back on the road, the whole sets full
band and then just banjo solo after a few what's
your guitar story? How old were you when you finally
started to go I can actually play real songs, so
I saying, I brought me my guitar when I was eleven,
and um, so yeah, I started playing then, and when
I was like six or seven, that's kind of when
I was really starting to really get a good grasp
(01:37:41):
on it. And after my parents told me at that
point I had some cheap starter guitar, they were like, hey,
we know you're taking it seriously and we kind of
want to challenge you. Um, if you'll learn Stairway to
Heaven front to back, like no stops, no mess up notes,
we'll buy you whatever guitar you want. And so I
spent the next like four months with my guitar. Teacher
(01:38:02):
and parents came home from work one day and I
was like, all right, come upstairs. I got it, and
UH played it for him and they bought me my
first gifts and less Paul. That's what I wanted so
bad and I literally just recorded two new songs and
played that guitar on both songs. I still use it
to this day. Can you still play the opening lick
from stair with Heaven? Oh? On banjo? Man, I'm gonna
(01:38:24):
get smited for half these licks? Right? This is just
like anti rock and roll, but we're doing it. There's
a lady sure all the glitters is gold and she's
buying a stairway. Hen just sounds country. They finish okay.
(01:38:52):
When she gets there, she knows if the stores are
the clothes with the worst, he can get what she
came for there. He is Travis Denning. So we've talked
(01:39:13):
about this before. But your girlfriend, who's not a fiance
yet not not yet, right, but I mean eventually right.
I'm not even gonna pressure you on that, but I
mean it's the idea that you sound like everybody in
my life right now. Actually, yeah, I'm not gonna pressure you,
but when's it happening? Well, I'm not asking that, but
Madison is John Michael Montgomery's daughter. Do you learn his songs?
You know? I actually don't know any of his songs.
(01:39:36):
The one song I do know by heart, though, is
Letters from Home because that's I've got like four songs
and country music that are an automatic, like cry song,
and that that's one of them. Just that song just
gets me. So I know all the words of that
one favorite nineties country song that that you will play
in your set. Do you have any Oh? Yeah? Church
on Cumberland Road by Shenandoah. Okay, well let's hear a
(01:39:57):
little bit of that on the banjo. This is just
about a mile off of one on nine. There's a
little church sitting bagging in the pines. Promise that girl
she was gonna be mine? How wouldn't be surprised if
she was standing there crying deading all upon our phone
(01:40:21):
going so so settle one. You gotta put your foot
down on the floor. Yeah, we've been working on night,
don't you know? You gotta give me to the Church
on the Cumberland rohole. Yeah, that's awesome. Listen, you came
(01:40:46):
up here only because I was like, you gotta complete
So I appreciate you doing that. You guys, check out
Beers Better Cold. It's Travis's EP. He's got the big
hit with after a few David Ashley Parker, where's that
beer beIN? Travis Denning. Follow him Travis R. Denning on Instagram.
Funny guy, gay, great job today, by the way, coming dominating,
(01:41:14):
It's the best bits of the week with Morgan. Number two,
Brett Eldridge came on our show. He's been on the
show a few times in the last few months, but
this time he performed an unreleased song. It's called I
Want That Back, and we posted about it online and
everybody wanted him to drop the song, like immediately it
was so good. But hell, I want to know what's
(01:41:37):
the song that you heard when it dropped and you
immediately loved it and had it on repeat. The first
one I can think of off the top of my
head is better Man by Little Big Town. Oh, great song.
I remember. So I got to hear it early in
one of the perks of radio. I was sitting I
was in Charleston. I was sitting in my program director's
(01:41:58):
office and he called me in there. He was like, hey,
I want you to hear this song because he knew
I'd love it, and he played it for me, and
I remember just sitting there and I'm like, can you
play that again? Like I need to hear that again,
And I don't know that song really like struck me.
And then finding out Taylor swift Road, I'm like, well, dah,
that's why. But yeah, that song. I remember just downloading
(01:42:18):
it and listening to it over and over and over
again in my apartment just all the time I was
listening to that song. And that's a really good song.
I mean, a Little Big Town is underrated in so
many ways. They're harmonies on every song, but that song especially,
I mean Karen Fairchild, It's just her voice is so
(01:42:38):
stunning and it really just makes you feel something that song.
I mean, I was in a very sad place whenever
that song came out. It's probably why I really loved it.
But even if you weren't, I feel like the way
the story or the song tells a story, and Karen's voice,
it really does just it makes you feel, yes, and
you do very much enjoy ball Oh yeah, Like I'm
(01:43:02):
I have a sad playlist on my phone, neural ballads.
I just and I listened to it all the time.
And that's your normal playlist, That's not that's not like
she goes to when she's said that's like her normal playlist.
Oh yeah, just riding in the car or I have
a sad CD. It's in my CD case, I have
a sad CD. I like, if I'm just going for
a walk or riding around in my car, I'll just
put on my sad playlist. I love it. It's so
(01:43:22):
interesting to me because like, I cannot listen to sad
music unless I want to cry, And that's like my
I have to listen to that purposely to like cry
or be in my feels. Really, otherwise I have to listen.
I have to listen and watch like good things. There
are some times I have to catch myself because it
can put me in like a sad mood. But for
the most part, yeah, I love listening to sad music.
(01:43:45):
Like it's just it is my favorite. It makes me
feel something and it just it brings back memories too,
of things. A fun fact about Hillary right there. Yeah,
I love sad music, love sad things well, and that
makes sense for your choice in song. And then my
chosen song is definitely not anything close to a ballad
sam Haunts Leave the Night on Oh yeah, okay, yeah,
(01:44:08):
I mean as soon as it wasn't even like released
to radio when I first heard it, and I just
went hard jamming on it. I mean, I think I
overplayed it. By the time it hit the radio. I
was like, wait, I've already heard this like five thousand times.
We not play it. I feel that way about all
of Sam hunt songs like that is definitely somebody I
know people hate on him, but his albums and songs
are so good and so catchy. I'll just put on
(01:44:32):
his CDs and just listened to him all the time. Yeah,
and you can listen to him on repeat, and they
don't get old until you've listened like five thousand times,
and then at that point you have to get new
Sam Haunt songs. Yes, I think his newest album, breaking Up,
was Easy in the nineties. That was the song that
I immediately was drawn to and listened to all the time.
Such a great like idea of a song that I'm
(01:44:53):
surprised nobody had. Nobody's done it put together that idea yet. Yeah,
it was such a cool and interesting con accept because
I feel like we've talked about that before about how
social media just makes things so much harder and how
we can so easily check on what somebody's doing, and
that's hard, and that's yes in nineties are very in
(01:45:15):
right now. And so he played on our nostalgia that
we're feeling, yeah, and our hatred for social media even
though we're all on it, I know it is m
and combined the two into this magical song. Yeah. He
did a great one with that one. But yeah, that's
a good that's a great Sam Hunt song. Yes, I
mean that was like his first intro to all of us. Yeah,
(01:45:35):
really that was his big first hip. Who's an artist though,
that you always get excited to hear, you know, speaking
of this Brett Eldred unreleased song and hopefully dropping in
the next few months. What is an artist that you
always get excited to hear that they're about to drop
new music? And it can be any genre. We've stuck
with country, but if you have other genre ideas, I
(01:45:56):
feel like, for me, it's always going to be country.
I feel like there's a you Carrie Underwood for sure,
Like I just get I get so excited whenever you do.
Whenever Carrie has any semi amount of news, Hillary text
it to me. She's like, this is what's happening. I'm like,
thank you, I saw that, but thank you. I'm glad
you're excited. When did she release that Christen's album. I
(01:46:17):
think it was in October and I was listening to
it all the time. I'm at my house. I decorated
my Christmas tree the first week of November because of
that album. Oh and when she teased her Las Vegas
residency and nobody knew what it was, I like, send
it to Hillary. I was like, this is so exciting.
And it was the first time I'd ever texted Hillary
something about carry that she had not texted me first,
and she was like, yeah, I think it's this, And
I'm like, wait, what, how did you already figure that out?
(01:46:39):
I don't know, I just I read things. You also
have some sick FBI skills. So if the FBI is
looking for anybody to investigate, people shout out to Hillary.
I will say, that's another fun fact about me. Like
I will find out anything you can. I can find out.
I mean dark web. Who I'm Hillary is our dark web. Seriously,
(01:47:01):
Like I if you need to mean to investigate anyone,
I got you, Like Morgan has to tell me if
I'm like kind of interested in the guy she's Hillary,
we cannot oh, yes, this is the same and investigate.
This is a thing with Hillary. So Hillary will like
think a guy is cute and by the end of
the day basically have all the information on him. And
I'm like, Hillary, you haven't even gone out with him.
(01:47:23):
You need to give him a chance to talk about
himself before you know everything about him. And it's like,
I know all this stuff, I know his name, and
I've never even said hi to the person, which I
know makes me sound super greedby but I promise I'm
not greedy and I'm just so so shy. Yes, we're
working on it, though, we're working on it, and I
just need to know if they're worth my time or interest. Yes,
(01:47:44):
but we're working on that line where it's just piquing
the interest, not going over ford with the interest. I'm trying.
I feel like I'm doing a little bit better with you.
Are you have started to get better knowing that you
do it now And you didn't know you even did
it until I was like, hey, by the way, you
should like go out with them to find these things out. Yeah,
and then you know that's how you meet people. Yeah,
(01:48:07):
I just need to know. I'm like, I need to
make sure they're not like a you know, a serial
killer or something before you're not wrong, but it will
always make me laugh. Yeah, it's funny. I mean everybody
has their quirks, and it's not even a bad quirk.
It's a funny quork. I think everybody has that friend
too who they go to well and honestly, like, if
you even meet a guy that's secure in themselves, they're
gonna be like, oh, that's funny, you did that much
(01:48:29):
research on me. It's also a known thing in the
dating world too, like you facebook me or you googled me,
like you figured me out before we went on this date.
That is just the reality with online dating and dating
in today's world. Yeah, we're going to find things out,
and I do. Now. I get my best friend Courtney,
because she's just like me, just like me. I get
(01:48:50):
her to research them so then I can honestly be like, no,
I didn't research you, and I'll just tell her. Let
me know if there's any red flags, let me know.
I don't need anything else, just let me know if
there's a red flag, Hillary, No, no, I need to know,
because I don't want to get invested in somebody. If
there's like they were you know, I don't know. I
can't think of anything arrested for something that is really
(01:49:10):
really really bad. Yes, I mean I just need to
know these things. All you need to do before a
date is if you meet them online, you have known
nothing about them. Google search him. If nothing pops up
besides like a Facebook count or account or something, you
verify that it is the same person, so they're not catfishing.
No arrest records, that's all you look at. At the
(01:49:32):
space in Courtney, I'm like, here, here's the name, here's
the info, give me the arrest records, give me. Oh,
she's found out like so much stuff about there was
this one guy. This is so freaking greepy. But yeah,
she was like she knew his political party, she knew
his arrest records, she knew like family stuff. But she
(01:49:53):
didn't tell me anything. She let me figure it out
on my own. But she was gonna let me know
if there were any red flags. But she could. She
found out just everything. She's just like me. We make
a great team, I know, but a team that needs
to not do that as much anymore. I feel like
every reason we's so creeped out. I mean, now they
really familiar. You're such a weirdo. I just it's a
(01:50:13):
security thing, and it is a good thing, but we're
just teaching you to scale it back a little so
you don't scare yourself from going on a first date,
which I tend to do. Yes, Yeah, that is really
the point of all of it. Dating scares me, So
that's why I need to make sure these people are yes.
And after you verify that they're a legit, that's that's
where you stop. Okay, and then after the first day
(01:50:35):
you can do more research on them, but you have
to give them the opportunity to present themselves. I will.
I'm doing better because I have learned a few instances
where I judge somebody online and I was like, yeah,
I don't think I'm going to be into this person.
I went anyway on the date and I was like, oh,
pleasantly surprised. Yeah, and they're different. I am always nervous
about slipping up and like saying something that they I
(01:50:55):
saw online that you went to Florida with your family.
I'm from Florida. What was that? Like? You know, I can't. Yeah,
and you cannot do that. No, I'm usually pretty careful,
like I can, I can play it cool when needed,
so I know you can I'm just helping protect you.
You are, and I feel like I'm I'm doing a
(01:51:15):
lot better you are. But I'm sure there are plenty
of women out there who do the same. Oh it's yeah,
it's like our natural, natural instinct. And guys, why am
I just same woman? I know both do it and
know I was gonna say, I'm about to get so
many DMS from guys being like this is so creepy
or you know. But to be fair, when I've brought
that up on her, when I've been like very protective
of them over myself, people will send me like their
(01:51:36):
resume deunder cares my whole life store and I'm like, okay,
well that helps, but I'm not going out with you. Yeah.
Probably not gonna go out with somebody who just shoots
the random DM. But yes, okay, well that was fun.
I reber what the question was. It's okay. We were
talking about artists that you get excited. Who's dropping new music? Oh? Okay, yeah,
we went on. I say Carrie Underwood, Yeah, who would
(01:51:58):
yours be? I want to country? Which is Keith Urban?
Love anything Keith Urban does? I just love him great?
And then Halsey I love her I have become a
pretty big Halsey fan now. She is multi talented, has
an insanely vocally talented voice like she so I even
think that's a word, but she just is. That just
(01:52:18):
is what it is. You created it. And I saw
her perform at our iHeart Festival one time and I
was like, oh my goodness, she her magic. I feel
like I kind of really got drawn to her when
she did that collab with Kelsey and did the CMT
Crossroads with her. Oh my gosh, that was so good.
That song I think isn't called Color's that name of it? Color? Maybe?
I think it's color. I'm not gonna say yes to
(01:52:40):
anything anymore because most of the time I'm wrong. I'm
one of that. That's okay, I'm pretty sure it's the
name of it. And it is such an amazing song.
I love it. I listened to it on repeat now
it is. It's great. I've become a very big Halsey
fan now. See. And she's great. I mean voice like
voice is insanely different and a lot of things out there,
and I think that's why I love her so much.
(01:53:01):
And her lyrics are really good too. She's a good writer. Okay,
well that was fun. That was a really love tangent. No,
it was a good one. I want those You learned
a lot about me. All to get back to Brett
Eldridge playing an unreleased song, here is him performing I
want that back. Number two, The Friday Morning conversation with
(01:53:23):
Brett Eldridge Brett, how are you, Budd? I'm good? How
are you doing? I'm doing good? A question for you
you being a Cubs fan and just a baseball fan
in general. The debate we have on this show is
is it okay to wear a jersey? First of all,
as an adult man. I did wear an Arkansas Razorbacks
baseball jersey to watch Arkansas play, and Kaitlyn was like,
(01:53:44):
are you gonna really wear a jersey? And I was like, yeah,
because we're going to a game. That's what a game, right?
But first of all, can you wear a jersey to
a game as an adult man? Absolutely? Okay? Now can
you wear a jersey as an adult man just hanging
out like going to like, I don't do that. You
don't do that. I mean you can do whatever you want.
(01:54:04):
I don't do that if you saw in a And
also I told her too, and you guys can jump
in on this. I said, it also matters what sport
the jersey is. Like, You're not going to see me
wearing a basketball jersey somewhere. Is there just too much arms?
There too much action? You can see in this ship.
You're not gonna see me wearing a football jersey because
it's just too big. But a baseball jersey is almost
like a shack it. It's almost like a ship. I mean,
(01:54:26):
especially if it's styled, like if it's like super jersey,
Like I don't know, Like there's I think there's vintage
ones that I really like. I would wear certain ones,
but I don't always do that, but I don't I
don't judge anybody for doing that. Here's my next question
in fashion, okay, high fashion, here we go. So being
now that I'm forty years old, I still have hoodies
that I bought before I turned for Is it okay
(01:54:47):
to wear a hoodie at even your age? You thirty five? Now? Yea?
Is it okay to wear a hoodie at thirty five?
In your opinion? Absolutely okay? I wear lots of those.
What about me though? Five six years? Absolutely okay? If
you're wearing one now, yes, you can say no, I listen.
You can say whatever he wants to say. Hoodie all day.
I don't buy new hoodies, but I grandfather them in.
(01:55:10):
I still wear them if I bought them. That's a
good call. So I don't go to the store be like,
got to get me a new hoodie. But I do
own a bunch and I still wear them. It was
because if you did buy a new one, you'd wear
the same old ones that kids they're more comfortable or whatever,
or they're just they have a thing. No. I just
feel like I don't need to be buying new hoodies. Okay,
I can still wear the ones I had. I don't
(01:55:30):
need to be buying anyone would do. I get it.
That's how you visible good. Every time I see you
on social media, you're like deep in the woods and
I just see your boot. I wonder on those hikes
that you take, because it's it's always a stream or
a tree or any eagle flying over. Do you ever
get inspired to write music though as you're doing these
(01:55:52):
these walks. I mean I hike almost every day. It
just kind of gets me out of my head and
kind of uh, real stuff, I guess, and it opens
opens my mind up a little bit, and uh soa
I'll get melodies or something I'll recorded on my phone,
or and get ideas and just kind of contemplate and
(01:56:12):
just walk around, look at look at bird, look at
eagles up in the sky. Can you name a song
that you have written that was inspired by you walking
in the woods. I would say a lot of my
new ones are, but I wouldn't say, like, there's one
that's like I went hiking today. That's a hit. If
I heard hiking today, I'll be there'd be a very
specific market all the hikers out there. I love it.
(01:56:34):
Birds chirping in the background of the song insert real birds. Yeah,
the ones as you were hiking. I kind of liked that.
That's the challenge we're giving you for the next three years. Okay,
I have to somehow put the word. You have to
put some sort of hiking reference. Have you ever put
a hiking reference on a song? No, but I should.
I mean I think it's very specific. Yeah, but but
(01:56:54):
I mean people love the hi yes, and it can
be subtle. It's like, oh, baby, looking your eyes reminds
me of when I was hiking in my pot. Yet
you're hiking boom there. Yeah, that's all we got right now.
Oh yeah, that's all we need though. Hey, that's how
you get to the hits. That's what we do. You're talking.
You just mentioned something about new music, So are you
(01:57:16):
recording music right now? Yes? What's that plan? Hopefully you
get get some stuff, you know, you know, the process
can take forever sometimes. But I've written probably aided the
songs for my new album already, and now I'm starting
to record him. So it's been vocaling him and recording
him and so I'm I'm deep in it. And how
locked up do these songs live? Because you know, like
(01:57:39):
Taylor Swift will only play them out? Did you ever
do you show up at the box and flip it
open and be like you can only listen? Oh here
like this? You know, I'm a believer that, in fact,
if we get time, I'll play I'll play something no
one's ever heard today. But like I I like to
just get it out there because I like to see
how people react to things, and there's there's avenues you
get music out there. Now, It's like I want to.
I want to. I'm always writing songs, so I want
(01:58:00):
to I want to hear what people think and how
they feel from it. What if you played a new
song and we reacted in a negative way like we were,
and we're like, all wrong. We don't hide it. Well
sometimes I mean there's subtle clues like you could if
we're like, don't give away all the subtle clues. Sometimes
artists come in nervous right now if I something. It's tough.
(01:58:23):
There are things because at times I will not hear
an artist until they play on that stage that you're on,
and once they play, you realize, oh, they do not
sound at the same level as their recording sound. And
then it's awkward because I don't even want to look
at home until it's over. Yeah, we're like, I won't.
I won't let you do. That's tough. Well, why don't
(01:58:45):
you give us all something new? Do you have? The
song's memorized already, have a lyric right here? Okay, what's
this one called? This one was called I want that back?
I want that back? And did you write this? I did?
And what was the inspiration of this new song? This
inspiration actually came at four am in the middle of night,
was kind of in the heat of pandemic times and
kind of looking through all the things I don't need
(01:59:07):
my life and could go without, and the things that
you want to hold, you know, pull closer, and you know,
as as the simple things that that mean a lot,
that that I want to hold onto, and the things
you want to throw out. And so it's called I
want that back. And what room of a house or
a bedroom did you write this in? I just want
to get the full picture. Are you did you wake
up and write it or were you are waking up
for this thing? Where four am? It's what almost? And
(01:59:30):
I would I would. I've got this little like old
school recorder because I don't put my phone by my
bed because then I'll look at it and I'll wake
me up and then I'll think about it or something.
So I've got this little quarter and what I do
as i'll, i'll, i'll. If I have something to pop up,
I'll just record it right there. And I had the
whole lyrics of this course just kind of show up
in the middle of nine. I don't know, it doesn't
(01:59:51):
always have like that, but it just did. And and
I had one buddy that I knew was a perfect
person to help me finish this because I already wrote
the chorus helped me kind of shape the verses a
little bit and everything, and and I called him up.
His name Scooter Crusoe, and uh, we wrote mean to
Me and want to be that song. He's kind of
been one of my guys that I've always written with,
and I think we got a really special one, but
(02:00:12):
nobody's ever heard it. So here it is. We will
be the judge of that bread. Let's see how special
it is. Okay, So this is called I'm trying to
get the strike because I've never it's called I want
that back. I want that back. Written at four am
for the most part, Yeah, what were you wearing in bed?
Bob Miley T shirt? And uh, you sleep in a
T shirt? Yes, staying weirdo. It was we jump on
(02:00:32):
him for I don't sleep in a shirt sometimes when
I'm not both, but that night it was probably about
Morley T shirt. Let's we'll accept it right here. We
get Bob Morley T shirt singing this song. All right,
here's I want that back. Here. You can have the
small toe, you can have the hey, you can have
the check your phone each time you get a little break,
(02:00:56):
and you can have them. Only you can have I
have the bank. You can have the TV full of
stations to tell you how the thing. But the smell
of old wood, bleaches in the wood at hometime, preachers
being rich with her in a cheap six bag. Yeah,
(02:01:19):
the shine of a new summer, barefoot baseball with my brother,
the first time freedom with the windows cray. I want
that bank. That's really good. Man had really good over
my eyes. Give me the look, give it a grammy.
(02:01:41):
That good dang dune. That's a good one. Anybody else
get emotional? Oh yeah, goose bumps? Uh yeah, me too.
I felt that yeah in my forearms usually some of
my thighs. As I started to think about where they
hit me. It kind of have my forearms. I mean, okay, okay, yeah,
I mean God, get the the voice of an angel.
Thank you? Do you ever just look up and go, yo, dude,
(02:02:03):
appreciate that I did. Sometimes that's weird. I don't understand
how I got it, but I got it, and I'm
glad to have it, and I feel very fortunate. So
I'm trying to belt it out right here. Why did
I not get it? You know, have you got other things? Man?
I think that about a lot of people that come
in here. It's easy to get envious of that. It's
a brand new song from Brett Eldridge. When will people
(02:02:25):
it just your best guests here? When do you think
people will be able to hear the version of that
from a studio? A month? Two months, I would hope
in the next few months. Really, it's a good one.
The Friday morning conversation with Brett Eldridge going out on
the good day. The American tour dates, that means there
are European dates too, so you're gonna go be basically
(02:02:45):
most of may You know what when you go somewhere
like the UK, like, how are you received? There? Is it?
Here's an American who sings country music. Let's go explore him?
Or are they like, oh my gosh, Brett eld are
just coming. It is such a for me. It's like
the excitement of like when you get your first hit
or a song it's even starting to get played, and
people get so excited because you know, they get to
(02:03:07):
discover it first or something. And when you go, you know,
thousands of miles you know, away from home and play music,
I just feel like there's so much appreciation. So I
continue to want to go back, you know every year
that I can, and so it is really it's really cool.
Is it weird to go places and they sing your
songs back when they don't even speak your language, because
(02:03:27):
I think that will be yes, absolutely, like well but great.
I played in Berlin and I remember playing up there,
and I remember like being in meet and greets and
stuff and a lot of people didn't speak English. But
then I'd look out in the crowd and be like,
all these people are speaking English perfectly fine right now
and they're singing it. So's it's pretty cool. I think
it's it's a special thing to be able to have that.
(02:03:49):
If your record label came to you today and they said, hey, Brett,
we heard you play the new song that you just
played on the bibone show. We really feel great about
this album. We've heard some tracks, but we really need
you to post a shirtless pick to promote record on
the tour. They came to him, pulled you aside, and
so we need you to go shirtless. What what is
this question I'm asking if you If they came, it'll
be uncomfortable, but they were like, hey, we really need
(02:04:10):
to go full sex of pilled. Would you would you
post a shirtless picture like on the front of your record.
Would you do that? Would you be? Hell? No, no,
I could that I could ever live at that? Why?
I don't know. I just you know, I'm always working out,
trying to I'm trying to get better, but I want
don't I don't want. I don't want to see that.
No one else wants to see that. What is the
(02:04:31):
Brett Eldridge workout routine? I left about four days a
week and then I like, h like, I'm trying to
I'm trying to put on some weight. So I'm just
slifting weights and and uh cycling for cardio. Yeah, but
trying to put all weight. You have trouble putting all
weight well. Last year during the quarantine, I ran the
(02:04:51):
whole time and I didn't go to gyms, and so
I just lost a ton of weight. Was running like crazy,
which was good for my mind. But then I was like, God,
I'm kind of skinny. So I've been trying to eat
a lot more. And I mean I'm always eating healthy,
but eat more and and liftoids and and uh and
make sure I get a lot of cardio and for
my heart. Must just want to feel good. So where
(02:05:12):
about going back on stage and not having your air
like if you're singing all these songs. Yeah, it's a
big part. I mean you can, like Beyon I've been
swimming a lot and uh and I also do these.
I do the cold showers in the morning and I
do that. Did anybody else? Anybody else? Guessers? Do you
do like that? As cold as it goes? Yeah, as
cold as I can possibly get it, sometimes at least
(02:05:35):
three minutes. So you do the three minutes. So I
did this morning three minutes. If there was like a
mystery murder in town, I would go, well, let's go
look at Brett and Amy because they're psychopaths in other ways.
That's why I heard a whim Hoff. Have you heard
of that guy? No? So he's this this Dutch guy
that um teaches like this breathing and then this technique
to where you can go in and withstand crazy cold
(02:05:55):
temperatures by doing this technique. You gotta watch it, just
look it up. It's I don't think I will someone whatsoever,
you know, you know, I mean I'm always very open
about like anxieties and stuff like the Cold Show really
helps pop me out of like a weird state or
have you done cryotherapy? That box you get into this
freezing Okay, you know that? He said therapy Like I
(02:06:18):
started going like maybe six or seven months ago, and
it was my three minutes of some people going there
they want to listen to music and dance out, and
I go in and I'm like, no music, just put
me in the box, and I come out like a
better in a better mental state like mine. For injuries,
I'd never felt like I'm going to be a better person.
Oh well, I mean I would. I went and I
was coming out like mentally better. So in a way,
(02:06:40):
that is a different injury, you know what I mean.
It's not like a muscle recovery, but it's like an
emotional maybe anxiety or I'm with you type regy. Okay,
well listen, thanks, we're going to do some breathing everyone
when you go. Have you started walking on your set
list at all? For when you Literally yesterday my my
bandleader called me, it's like a right, let's get this set.
(02:07:00):
Let's going, which makes me so nervous to do that
because I used you don't have to pick through a
lot of songs and what's the first song back? Like
the first opening song. It's the first it's you. You're
walking on stage first time in a year. I mean,
I think it's gotta be I mean, it's a good day.
Tis it's gonna be good day. I don't know why
I would it fuse so you start with that, I think,
so this is set like a positive mood. What's what
(02:07:22):
are you close with? I don't know. We need to
figure this out now. We gotta moin. I mean, okay,
let me think what I would if I were going
to your show. You just I don't think you're gonna
like my answer. That's it because when you look back,
I'm sure you're tired of playing. That's not tired. But
I'm sure if you got to pick, you would play.
The new stuff gets more exciting as an artist, right
(02:07:44):
because you were living a different life whenever you put
Don't You out? Yeah? Absolutely? But however, I think you
close on don't You that's thought about song and close
on just because it's big, it's upbeat? Yeah, actual baby,
I mean the right to close that the music. That
was a good one to close with. Um, but maybe
that's not a bad thought. My running run when I
(02:08:04):
wrote the flag pole for me do you ever not
play a hit? Oh I did that one time. It
didn't go well, no, does it all? Why did you
not play? I think one time we just screwed up
or something and we forgot to add like and I
played mean to Me every time, but it was like
mean to me or something, you know, And and it's
(02:08:27):
one of my favorite songs I played, and somehow it
slipped to our, you know, just writing the set list
because I like to I'd like to switch it up,
and uh, I think I forgot it that night and
we were like, man, something didn't feel right, Like there's
a moment in the show that we didn't have and
it was that and so many people were like, that
was our wedding song. Oh man, can you imagine you
go to here one song and don't play it. So
if you come to the Good Day tour, I will
remember every song, I promise, And if not, h I'm sorry.
(02:08:51):
Will you play the Long Way? Yeah? Because that is
not not here? I mean, if you play now, that's going.
But I'm saying, will you play that on tour because
that's my favorite song? Yes you willhood you're committed. I
like to. I like to break that one down sometimes
it's played acoustic. Well, lucky for us, that's what he's
doing here. Yeah, well you play us some of the
long lay. Yeah, alright, okay, let's I'll bring you right
into it. Just to take a trip around around your town.
Right here we go. Don't think I've ever seen your
(02:09:14):
kind pretty wandering around this midnight my house. See you
gotta look that says you got it all good. So
if you don't mind that light to know, you better
see me the long way around you town. Were you
(02:09:40):
the queen with the suver crown? I want to secrets
you key the shine underneat of the damnon. I think
God just found see me the long way right? I
(02:10:07):
wonder if you had chased that big note this early
in the morning. He did, He chased it. Just gotta
show up and do it. Let's live. Brett Eldridge is here, listen.
Tickets for the Good Day Tour go on sale today
at ten am local time. Wherever you are, go to
Brett Eldridge dot com and get tickets. It will be
a fantastic show, not just with Brett, but he got
(02:10:28):
a pretty powerful opening act too. Usually for an opening
act to get somebody that people never heard of you
had you give a couple of bucks and go, hey,
go do good job. You got Morgan. Alang, that's awesome.
Hell yeah, yeah, can wait all right go Brett Eldridge
dot Com. Good to see you. Much success as always,
the new song is fantastic. We love it. I just
looked at number one on the chart. Already good and
it only has been here on the show. Yeah, it's
(02:10:49):
been great, all right, there he has, Brett Eldridge. It's
the best bits of the week. With Morgan number two
coming in at number one, everybody was geeking out when
they came on the show. This is three Doors Down.
They performed so many of their big hits, Kryptonite, Loser,
when I'm Gone, be like that, and it was all
(02:11:10):
like acoustic versions and it still sounded so good. This
one seriously got you guys so excited online, So of
course I had to have it at number one. So
here is three Doors Down number one. The Friday Morning
Conversation with Three Doors. I'm a big fan of these guys.
You guys good, Yes, are good, because I'm good. You
(02:11:32):
have so many number one songs and we're gonna get
to some music in a second. But Brad whence the
last time you guys actually played for people in a room.
It has been quite a while since we played for
some people in a room like this, and uh, it's
it's it's always been a little bit different to do it,
but it's actually it's really cool to be sitting here
doing it because it's fresh and it's been so long
since we've done it. That's I'm kind of looking forward
(02:11:53):
to it. But I was honestly nervous this morning when
I got up to come in. Why would you get
You and I know each other at this point too,
so it's not like we're meeting for the first time,
but why would you bean? Is it because you haven't
sang in a while? It's because we haven't sang in
a year. And it's probably the biggest radio show in
the Conte No pressure listen. I'm just such a big
fan and so um, you know, you guys all coming
(02:12:15):
in together this means the world. So thank you guys
for waking up early and singing, because I know it's
as famous rock band, you don't want to wake up
early in the morning. You know it's our early in
the morning, So I appreciate that. So where do we
start um. You guys, the record has been out now
what twenty years years? And I did see that you
guys were gonna play you know, the Better Life all
the way through from track one to track How many
(02:12:37):
tracks are on that record? I think eleven, I believe so.
But track one is kryptonite. And do you start off
with the big song? I think we're going to dang.
The crowd is gonna be like, all right, we're ready
to get warmed at whoa, this is the big one.
It's gonna be you know, it's it's a little bit different,
but we've done it every year. We you know, we
have a Better Life foundation and every year we play
a show for that, and we actually tried this out
(02:12:57):
of doing the record and we're done way the song, right,
and so we just started that record, which you know,
it has here without You, which is another one of
our big songs, and it's like at best put that
song on, like the fourth fits on the set. But
it was just so cool and it was kind of
inspired by several years ago we went out on tour
with Aerosmith and they and it wasn't like a like
(02:13:18):
an anniversary for the record or anything, but they came
out and they played their hits and all, but they
played the entire record of Toys in the attic and
it was so awesome, and it was just it's just
we've done it for the Better Life that year, and
it was just so fun to do that. It would
be fun to do this year. I think, let me
hear a clup, Raymond, up Here Without You? I big
(02:13:40):
was this song for you guys, Here Without You? Because
I heard it. I heard it and played it on
the radio. It felt like every five minutes. It was
a monster. That was a big song. And it was
a really important song for us too, because you know,
after the success of the Better Life record, which was
I mean, by the grace of God, it had it
had four hits on it, which was really a blessing too,
because you know, if it if we would have only
had Krypton night, that would have been it, you know, obviously,
(02:14:01):
but if it's really hard to kind of follow up
a song like that and then to follow up a record,
and so Here Without You and when I'm going off
the off the second record really were important for kind
of like launching us and kind of for lack of
a better way of putting just cruise control in a way.
You know. Whenever I think two or three years ago,
we do a big charity show, Eddie and I do
(02:14:22):
the Raging Idiots million dollars show, and I was like, dang,
you know it would be awesome. Brow would co out
and seeing Kryptonite we play it, and then I was
nervous when you showed out because I was like, oh,
because we're doing like the background vocals, we're playing the guitar,
and we come out and it was we played at
the rhymean and it was really one of the highlights
of what we've been able to do. So so that's
where we met the first time. I think it is
it is man. I had fun that night too. I
(02:14:42):
was nervous too, and then he wrote a check at
then he's like, and then I want to give you
ten thousand dollars and I spent I bought a new jacket.
That's awesome gas. Yeah yeah, um, would you guys mind
because we're gonna talk and play music both. Do you
feel like you're warm enough? Can you guys vocals? Warm?
You good? I think so pretty good? Can we hear
a little verse and chorus of Kryptonite? Like we go
to the show. It's the first on the crowd. We're
all there, We're all naked. Here's three doors down and
(02:15:05):
Kryptonite a lot too, can walk around the world. Two's
my trouble mind. I love my money lying somewhere in
(02:15:26):
the sandy time. Now I watch the world folks to
the dark side of the man. But I feel there's
nothing I can do. I watch the world thro to
(02:15:49):
the dark side of the moon. After all, I knew
it had to be something, do it. I really don't
mind it happens now. And then a fan if crazy
man used to call me super Man. Well in my
(02:16:17):
hand side christ Night, Come on man, that's great. That's awesome. Man.
How does that feel to sing again with people watching clapping?
It feels good. Yeah. I feel like us too. We
(02:16:37):
like to clap. Sitting here trying that switt How that
that song? If? If I'm familiar here, like that song
kind of became a hit locally first and kind of
spread that way? It did it? Did? Man? Um it
Our local radio station down in Bloxi, Mississippi played the
song for us and um after just after playing locally,
like like I said, and begging them to play the
(02:16:59):
song and going on the radio station and playing on
the local on the local show that they had once
a month there, and it just really kind of happened
to us like a story, you know. And I and
we were naive when it was all happening, and we
didn't realize that that's not how it really happened, you know.
So it really kind of happened to us like it
happens on TV, you know. And by the grace of God,
it all came together, men, and it was. It just
(02:17:21):
makes a really good story more so than than how
it actually comes together sometimes And and uh, dude, we're
just really thankful to be I have all been a
part of it. The tourist announce you guys can get
tickets at three Doors down dot com. I mean you're everywhere.
I was gonna read some cities, but you have like
one hundred and fifty million cities here everywhere. You're going
back on the road. Is that exciting to go do
band full band shows? I cannot wait, man, I cannot
(02:17:43):
wait a long time. Brad. How how did the band
stay together? How's this still happening? You know? Man? We
just uh, our fans, our fans have been so good
to us, and they have encouraged us a long way.
God's been good to us. He's kept us, kept us going,
and uh, you know we've been through a lot over
the years. But you just, I mean, you know, it
(02:18:04):
really is it's it's it's the fans. Man. You hear
how much of music means to people and little encouraging
notes on whether it's Instagram or Facebook or something somebody
you walk buy in the store every day. Man, I
don't think people realize how much it means to you
and how much those little pats on the back just
keep you moving forward. Do people come up to you
now and be like, hey, you're the guy from I do.
I'm not sure if it's Creed or Three Doors Down
(02:18:25):
or lit. They ever do that. They can't even I
get three days graced all the time. Yeah, three days grace.
They're they're a little harder. Yeah, but yeah, Dango Kryptonite
comes out. It's a massive hit, and it's it's played
at rock radio, it's played at pop radio, it's everywhere.
(02:18:48):
At what point do you start to feel like, wow,
like we're being played everywhere and I can actually feel
it as as you're living your normal life when I
think that we've seen how think us see how far.
It was our first trip to Europe and our first show,
our first real show in Europe was a little club
in Finland and uh and we've not even been to
Finland that many times, but it was our first show
(02:19:10):
over there. And Matt and I were walking up to
the door of this club and four or five hundred
revenue and it was at three o'clock in the daytime,
and it was snowy and kind of ford. It was
like snowy or drilling rain or something. Anyway, it was
pretty inhospitable weather, and there was three or four little
girl standing in front of the club wanting our autograph.
And we just walked down there in the middle of
the day to kind of check the place out, and
just like we were in Finland and then, and they
(02:19:30):
didn't hardly speak English, and I was like they were
waiting on us in Finland. And in the show, you know,
it was just three or four were like three or
four hundred, But it was just showed you just how
far that, like, your music has reached all the way
over here and took place that you never even thought
you'd come. Did they ever try to like flash you
guys up and put you in fancy jackets, and like, guys,
we need more of a like a like a like
(02:19:52):
we need to flashy sparkling for a second. For a
second they did, and they just realized that that just
did not just that that shirt in that voice just
don't look right together. They just just yeah, they well,
they send it to like media class to teach us
to how to even kind of do an interview. And
I don't think I've paid attaching in that class any
more than I did any other class, but uh it,
(02:20:14):
I mean it helped. And I mean they tried to
make us or tried to help us not talk quite so.
I mean like this, you know. And I did the
same thing when I got into doing like radio television.
They were like, hey, you're from Arkansas. Your accents too thick,
And so I went to a speech pathologist and tried
to learn. And at this point I've kind of re
embraced what I stopped doing for a while. But it
(02:20:36):
was the same thing. They were like, you can't go
work in a lot of places if you sound like
a hillbilly. I know, I know, Man's it really was
like that, And um, it was I don't know what
would they tell you in these classes, Like they would go,
all right, Brad, mister door's down, come on in, um
say because for me it was gez because instead of going,
you know, fishing, I would be like, we're going fishing
(02:20:58):
and they would go when you first of all, you
have to add you used all your words because you're
eliminating somehow. And eyes for me because eyes how I've
been now trained to say it, but as eyes yes,
you know, it was like I got hitting, get hit
in the eye. You know, it said if I got
hit in the eye. And they were like, well, if
you say a people, people aren't gonna like you because
you're gonna sound like you're from Arkansas. And so I
(02:21:19):
imagine they probably do that same stuff to you. They did,
and you know, but you know it was so cool
about it was as you get out and uh and
you meet people in like the real world out on
out on tour, is everybody like just it's a Southern
accident is like disarming to people or something. It's like
they don't they don't take you, and they look at
you like your stupid or anything. It's like they look
(02:21:39):
at you kind of like oh, he gotta be you
gotta be decent, you know it. So it kind of
like it is a little bit disarming to people. So
I kind of embraced it also, and I'm like, well,
I mean people like get you know, three Doors Down,
they're in studio now they're going back out on tour.
You guys can get tickets at three Doors down dot com.
It says seven seventeen. I mean, have a thumbs January
for more April May, June, July seventeenth. It's the first
(02:22:03):
show back and you guys will be in Huber Heights, Ohio, Corbe, Kentucky,
New Orleans, Orange Beach, Alabama, Pelham, Alabama. So a lot
of our listeners now I gotta get to see you guys,
you know on tour. Whenever you had Kryptonite and it hits,
do you have that feeling like, oh man, we have
to have a second song so we don't end up
like Chumbawamba, like a like a one hit Wonder Was
that was that a fear in the group? Absolutely? Absolutely,
(02:22:25):
And I mean it was we were so thankful that
Loser done good, and not only had it done good,
but that it done good at rock radio because at
the time. You know, you did you want to be
a rock band, but uh, you know, Kryptonite was such
a big hit it not just rock, but at top
forty and if you went over to the top forty
two much did the rock wouldn't play anymore. So we
needed to definitely keep our roots and rock and Loser
(02:22:46):
became a hit at rock and it was a It
was number one at rock radio for months and I
was like four to five months or something, it was.
It was for a long time. Man, I loved that
was that opening of a Loser. It's just it's strong.
Thank you that would you guys? Did you guys play
that acoustically? Do you guys do Loser? Okay? Three doors
down her here this was the number one at rock
for a long time. Here is Loser. You breathe in
(02:23:21):
right away and nothing seems to fill this place. I
need this every time, So take your lasket off my case.
Someday I will find I love that. Folks to me
lying this and this won't fall away, and the sooner
(02:23:44):
fall away getting closer to pushing me on for livesttle
edge because I'm a loser and sooner lady, you know
I mean, d you get in the fall. I'm loser.
(02:24:11):
I'm loser. Come on, man, that's all okay, Three Doors
down here, when you come, we're gonna come back in
a second. I'm gonna ask for when I'm gone. So
just no, have you look at tars tu ready because
I'm gonna ask for that in a second. We're gonna
come back with three Doors Down. I'll say it again.
(02:24:31):
Go to three Doors Down dot com. The Better Life
twentieth anniversary. They have so many dates on this tour.
You guys, as you can as you can hear, they
still have it, Brad still has it. Sometimes artists come
in they're like, I'm I'm gonna go back and play
the record. I'm like, well sing for me, and they're like, oh,
We're like, oh no, you got it. You guys got it.
That's awesome. Hey, Brad. You know we we we did
(02:24:52):
this thing where I think we celebrated the record and
you know us three we went and we talked for
a while and talked about the history at three Doors Down,
and then all of a sudden, a copy of the
Better Life on Buying All showed up in my house.
You sneak into my house and leave it there because
I have no idea how it got in my house.
Blame it on JP Okay, somehow that record, it had
a whole long note on it, and I was like,
I didn't let anyone in the door, and then somehow
(02:25:12):
in the house. But I gotta imagine it's crazy. You're
still in the grocery store and you hear one of
your songs, Like, that's gotta be a weird thing, right,
it really is. I think you're shopping for fish sticks,
and all of a sudden you hear I'm here without you, baby.
It was like two weeks ago, really, and and I
can hear it. I can hear just like a little
note of it. I'll know it's at And now I
told you in this my wife stops, she just rolls
(02:25:36):
her eyes and balls of What kind of singing training
did you have as a kid when you started the band? Um,
I didn't. I grew I was the youngest of seven kids,
and I grew up in a similar God church. And
you know, in Similar God they sing a lot, and
I never sang in front of the church friends. Just
grew up. It was never out of place in my
house to be loud, you know, because I mean my
family is a pretty loud bunch, and none of them
would argue that um and so it was never I
(02:25:59):
was never bashful or anything. So I just kind of
grew up singing and UM and loved eighties hair metal
and all eighties bands, and then I loved like nineties country,
and me and my friends we would ride around the
neighborhood and have a little miles the Sundowner truck that
my daddy gave me when I was like thirteen. I
just couldn't leave the neighborhood. So we'd rad that truck
around and we would just sing and sing and sing
(02:26:20):
and zing. And I guess that's where I learned how
to sing. What anyone tell you, hey, Brad, you're pretty good,
like you should try to sing? How did you start
to get the affirmation to know, yeah, I should try
to do this? Well, we didn't have a singer in
the van. It was just three of us, just jam
and I mean we didn't even have a that was
nobody really even thought about two singing. I was like, well,
I try it, and I didn't. I mean, I was
(02:26:42):
not confident at all. And and I taught our bass player,
his girlfriend and one of her friends would be sitting
there sometimes listen to us singment, well butt, do you
sound good? And I think them telling me that gave
me more encouragement to finally like stop looking at the
wall while I was singing and kind of turn around
and be like, all right, I can do it, you know.
And and all my friends wore I've never had any
(02:27:03):
friends that like picked on me about it. All my
friends and even like a little southern, small hometown, they
were all really encouraging about it. And that helped me
more than anything. How'd you have those friends that the
opposite beat me up? Told me I was a loser
the whole time. That's why I like loser. Three doors
down they're here. Tell me about the name? What How
(02:27:23):
did three doors down the name come about? It was?
It really doesn't meaning things significant. It was just we
were kind of searching for a name and we had
a gig coming up like that nine or either. The
night after this little trip, we took down to go Shorts,
and being from South Mississippi, we just the little town
you go through going down there is just pull a
little fruit stands and some in the same buildings, and
(02:27:45):
one of the fruit stands had moved a couple of
parcels down in the same building. They had put up
some tack on letters it said business moves, I mean
doors down, and some of them had even kind of
fallen off. And at the time there was three of
us and we just kind of mailed it together and
uh used it the next night at the party and
just figure, will it's it's seem inted now he can't
change it. Did anyone ever have conspiracy theories about what
(02:28:07):
the like crazy theories like three doors down is actually
the sign of the Beast? And I've heard some doozies. Really,
I would imagine because it's so like I never knew
what it meant. And you're like, well, I bet it
means something like deep or something like they're up to something.
I'm sure you heard people all kinds of weird theories
about the name. Huh. Absolutely, And I mean I can't
really name them, like one off the top of my head,
but people have asked me. It's like, well, it has
(02:28:28):
to be like it means like such and such or
somebody somebody left three doors down and you murdered them. Yeah,
I heard three doors down or here right now they
have their guitars. They were so gracious to come in
and play some songs. Okay, so I've got two requests.
Will you do when I'm Gone? This is my first request?
Absolutely tell me what tell me about this song? Like
when you when you think about back in the day,
when you know it's written and you started recording it,
(02:28:51):
like what comes to mind? When I'm Going is actually
the only song we've ever written on tour. We've never
We've always before Incense, always had the big dream getting
out on tour and man, we're just gonna really hustle
this time. We're gonna play shows at night time, we're
getting get on the bus and right during the day
and it absolutely never happens. And we wrote when I'm
Going on on the stage one day at sound check
(02:29:11):
and they had had they all had been playing the
music around for a little bit, and I guess we
don't always write lyrics and melody or music at the
same time. And sometimes they've written this completely different ideas
that wind up together and um, and that's kind of
how those that idea was. And we were on stage
at sound check one day and put it together, and uh,
(02:29:32):
I remember somebody standing there thinking that saying that, man,
that's a good song and uh. And it also once
we got it, it gave us some confidence. It was
it was really cool to have that song and play
it a little bit on the Better Life tour even
though it was on the way from the Sun record,
because we knew we had one in our pocket that
was a good song going into that recording process, and
(02:29:52):
I think it took a lot of the anxiety out
of that recording process, which allowed us to kind of
open up and write the songs that we did for
that second record. Dan, all right, here we go, here's
three doors down with when I'm gone. There's another world
(02:30:17):
inside of me that you may never see. And there
are secrets in this life that I can't high high
and somewhere in this darkness stairs and lying that I
can't find. Well, maybe it's too far away. Maybe I'm
(02:30:41):
just blind. Maybe I'm just blind. Hould me when I'm here,
rob me when I'm wrong, pum me when I'm scared,
and love me when I'm gone. Everything I am and
(02:31:01):
everything in me won't to be the one you wanted
me to be. I'll never let you down on even
if I could, and give up everything, give only for
your good to who me when I'm here, an me
when I'm wrong. You can move me when I'm scared.
You won't always be there. So love me when I'm
going home, Love me. And when I'm going home, I'm
(02:31:33):
on three doors now, So good chriss. Whenever we talk
about these songs, I mean, you wrote a lot of
these songs too, almost all of them. I mean, here
you are, the quiet guy playing the guitar, knowing I'm
making mailbox moneys, you know, writing these songs of Brad.
I mean, it's gotta feel pretty good for these things
to last so long, right, it really does. Um. I
was talking to my wife the other day, but I
(02:31:54):
was like, you know, with COVID and everything's sitting home
for two years, like we're living off what we did
twenty years ago. It was just really a lesson. Really,
is the checks still actually come in the mail or
now they're just going right to them no email? Are
you guys still making money though? Are they? Like streams?
Are you still you still getting a little bit here
and there? Man, especially especially off like songs like here
(02:32:15):
without You and stuff, And I mean you know that
song a couple of years ago and you know, like
that song came out in two thousand and three year whatever,
two thousand and four or five or something on thousand
and three, two thousand and three, but like in two
thousand and nine or whatever, Universal took all their music
off YouTube and put it all back. So Kryptonite and
here without You essentially got put back on the same
(02:32:37):
day and um from that date, like eleven years ago
for a seventeen year old song. That song's got like
six hundred and forty million views on YouTube and it
still gets like a million views a week? Is it?
Do people keep putting it in in movies and stuff too?
And when I say the grocery store, like that's where
you want to be, it's kind of everywhere. At that point,
I gotta assume, like, and it's weird. Could you start
(02:32:58):
it off as a rock band? And now like flip
on the high AC station it's like another light one
from three Doors Down And you're like, day, how stelf
is transition? But that's where that's how you're getting paid.
Still absolutely like a rom com will put three Doors
Down in I'm here with that, chu babe, and you're like,
all right, well, I never expected that love scene for
the stuff. But that's got to be cool too, right,
It really is, man, it really is, you know. And
(02:33:19):
and where has last year? You know, we weren't able
to go out and play shows. People were at home
streaming some music, you know. And and uh, and that really,
you know, is the transition of the music industry has happened.
And where there's really not record sales anymore, artists are
you know, that's where the artists, babe is off streaming
music in different ways. And and uh, I don't I
(02:33:39):
don't know if if kids and people realize what a
blessing they were too artists last year being at home
streaming all that music. I want to ask before we
play one more song here, because let me say this again,
twenty year anniversary, have the better life playing the whole thing.
I'm not wrong here, you're playing it from top to bottom,
top to bottom. And I want to get into be
like that, which I believe you two wrote together, just
you two. You're in a room, you write this song.
(02:34:01):
This is you know, one of the metal tracks here.
When you're right, be like that, because I am I wrong?
Was it on the American Pie soundtrack too? Yeah? I
remember that thing coming and the song is also over there,
and I'm like, this is it crazy? And it was
in the movie and so that song became again such
a hit. Do you ever go? Can you believe us
who just sat there and wrote that song? Man? I
(02:34:23):
think that it was that quick. I think that all
the time I have felt guilty before about Like man,
it's like, I know people try like so, and I
mean we're not overly talented, dude, But I mean I
mean when I say, like God blessed us with some
with some songs, he really like has because like I wonder, why,
(02:34:46):
like so, why didn't somebody else write some of those songs,
you know, because they just it weren't that they were
like great, They just mean they're connected with people. And
I guess to just do it in the simplicity of it. Um.
But you know, and I'm sit on stage and saying
be like that many a night, thinking that I'm singing
what this song, I'm living, what this song is about.
I'm like, I'm actually getting to live a song that
(02:35:07):
I that I that I wrote about. You know. Here
is be like that From three Doors Down. He spends
(02:35:35):
his nine in California. Watch him stars on the Big screen,
and then he lies awaken. He wonders, just why can
that be me? Because then his life he's filling with
