Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome to episodes to eight six. This is an emergency
bobycast on the Grammys. Came to a music podcast not
talking about the biggest music show of the of the year,
which I didn't watch. I watched clips afterwards, but you
know what, that's most things. Now. I started to feel
guilty about not watching the show, but I don't watch
most shows that are live, unless the sporting event or
like late night talk shows, I don't watch them. I
(00:22):
watched the clips, though you did watch them there. I
watched all three and a half hours. Well, I'm glad
you're here. What stood out to you? I mean the
performances really did stuck out to me, and I think
it's because they were all prerecorded, so I felt they
had more of a cinematic quality to them. They looked
better and they were more entertaining to watch than just
regular old live performances. They look at little movies. Yeah,
(00:44):
they had like cool backgrounds, the special effects were there.
I just thought it was more enjoyable for me. So
to you, nothing is lost by it not being live.
Wondering if something could go wrong, No, I think it's better.
But then why not just watch music video? Then? I
mean it did kind of feel like that. You're like, oh,
I guess this is a pre recorded thing, but I
(01:05):
just think the fact of having them all in one
show is what makes it worth watching. And then the
other stuff, like the actual presentation the awards was a
live so were they presenting the people in the crowd.
They were outside of the stable center, So the whole
setup where all the artists were and were they were
giving away the actual awards was outside, and then faked
all the inside performances. Whose performance did you go Dane? Now?
(01:28):
Is cool? Man? I really liked the baby's performance. When
he performed, he had like this choir in the background
with him, and I thought that song was okay before,
but when he did it live, I was like, this
is awesome. And he kind of did that weekend thing
to where he was playing to the people watching at home,
looking directly at the camera, and I just thought that
was cool. What song did you do he did as
(01:49):
a rock star? Here's a club of itating not a
cop pistol on my black I'm a cop. You ever
met a real hitter? Stuff? This say no good talking?
It is cool? And they switch up songs right, just
an arrangement on the song can freshen it up. I
don't know that I would listen to that on Spotify,
but it's a cool version after you've heard the other
(02:10):
one a million times on TikTok. That's cool. I did
see that Beyonce won her Grammy the Performing Arts with
the most Grammy's ever. I think Beyonce is great, amazing, fantastic,
but also think she's a bit overrated. Okay, I do
because maybe she but I think mostly just because she's
not for what I like, and she's so big an award,
(02:31):
and I think she deserves all the awards. But I
think you can be amazing and still be overrated. For example,
The Hangover the funniest crap all overrated to me. Great movie,
but and but I told this to Caitlyn and she's like, no,
She's like fantastic, like the best ever. So I also
understand that I'm kind of an id when it comes
to Beyonce because I just don't get it. I loved
(02:51):
her in Destiny's Child. Maybe I'm too old, I don't know,
but she's my age. What do you think about Beyonce?
I thought the same thing whenever, Like she did Lemonade
and it was like the biggest thing ever people. I
didn't get it, and I didn't realize she was at
that level of fame to where people just loved her.
Her fans are like die hard. I see her more
being from Destiny's Child. I guess it's just the age
(03:12):
and where we come from. I admit I'm not educated
enough on Beyonce to fully understand it. And she's also
not doing what I like. Yeah, you know, I like
sad guitars like so, so when I say that, I
say it with respect and that you know the same way.
I look at a Bob Dylan and I wasn't alive
for what's that noise? Is there a song she went for? Oh?
(03:35):
It was so low. I thought I was playing like
out on my phone, like a Bob Dylan who's known
as the greatest songwriter of all time. I'm like, hey,
overrated because he just didn't play in my heart. So
Beyonce is now. Congratulations to her. The Grammy makes her
the most ever at the Grammys. Taylor Swift one Album
(03:56):
of the Year. It's her third album of the year.
Weird thinking about the Grammys though, and I'll say it again,
but you saw it more this year with artists going
the Grammys are rigged. You saw it in the actual headlines.
You saw the weekend saying it. There are a couple
other artists that were like, you know what, screwing, I'm
not going to the Grammys because it rigged is not
(04:19):
the word, because everyone knows, or it's been known recently,
how the situation works. There's just a little group of
people like, I know how the country music ones weren't picked,
and it is bull crap. That's not that's not legitimate.
I'm not saying the winners weren't, because I get to
that in a second, but the ones that are put
up as as the nominees. There's people in the room
(04:42):
and they're like, well, what's the wind blowing this way?
What's the direction? I know some of the people in
the room, So yeah, it's it is. It's crap. But
it's always been that way. It doesn't mean it's right.
But I've always known that the Grammys were kind of hokey.
They're the biggest award, it's the best one to get
because can brag about it forever. It's a weird process.
(05:02):
We're just to be able to go m what's the
political climate what's the well, you know what what sound
is really blowing up here? Who is someone? Because in
times there have been winners who noboy's ever heard of,
and you're like best new Artists, I've never even heard
of them. I remember when Bony ver One and I
was like, who is Boni the right? You probably had
a bunch of hipsters. So my point is the Grammys
(05:23):
are a bit dopey and how they pick their nominees.
And sometimes I think the votes count because I voted,
but they can flip those. It's like at the end
of talent shows when real quick you go, Proce says, right, flipped,
and they do, and they can from what I've been
told they can, and from what I've read in the news,
(05:44):
because that's the story that came out last year. But
have you been reading about what everybody's pissed? I mean,
the Weekend was mad because he put out that album
it broke all the records, but zero nominations, And then
Zane was mad just because he doesn't like the Grammys.
So it's mainly just people getting mad when they're not nominated.
It wouldn't be mad eitherated. I don't wait till I
(06:07):
wasn't nominated to do the whole spill. It just feels
like they feel like they're not a part of the
cool kids club. So they're like, you know what, I'm
gonna tear him down. Yeah, okay, And all of my
stuff that I'm told comes from different people. So listen,
I'm not in the room. Let me cover myself legally
here everything that I'm sharing with you and stuff that's
that's come here. Say to me that that that's the situation.
(06:31):
But I've always known it to be the situation, So
I'm not upset about it. Like it's a game you play.
It's politics like any award. But they do have some
winners that are legitimate. I I do believe that because
I vote. But what I've been told is that they
can get all those votes in and go, you know what,
we just don't think that's the that's the one and
flip it true or false. I'm gonna say this, what
(06:52):
do I know, I'm not. I don't know anything. It's
all alleged. So Beyonce's Queen Dingling. She's biggest of all time,
best of all time, her nine year old one, her
first Grammy. So here you go, here's Beyonce. Speech for
Best R and B Performance for Black Parade. This is
so overwhelming. I've been working my whole life since nine
(07:13):
years old and I'm I can't believe this happened. Is
such a magical night. Thank you so much. I know
my daughter is watching um, two daughters and my son
y'all all watching blue. Congratulations you want to Grammy tonight.
I'm so proud of you. Billie Eilish one Record of
(07:33):
the Year, which that's much more of a technical award.
Explain that Record of the Year goes to the artists.
Album of the Year goes to the composers of it.
Record of the Year is like the singing sound yeah,
the artist Yeah, which I thought it was surprising she won.
And Taylor one album, which is the writing of right. Yeah.
(07:56):
That's why all the writers went up and excepted the award.
So here is Billie Eilish Record of the Year. This
is really embarrassing for me, Megan girl, I was gonna
write a speech about how you deserve this, but then
I was like, there's no way. I was like, it's
hers you deserve this. It was kind of awkward when
she went up and accepted it because she went on
(08:17):
for like a minute of why Megan the Stallion deserved
it over her and then she's like, oh, but I'm
happy I got it. That's happened a couple of times.
I remember once I don't know about some tags that
guy mc lamore. Yeah, when mack lamore one and he's like,
I shouldn't have won this, and he was like apologizing
on Instagram. I think it was too If I'm just
(08:39):
going back in my mind, it might have been Kendrick.
It was Kendrick Lamar. That's it. Taylor Swift Album of
the Year of Folklore. I want to thank James Inez
and Betty and their parents, who are the second and
third people that I play every new song that I write. Um,
But mostly we just want to thank the fans. You
guys met us in this imaginary world that we created,
and we can't tell you how honored we are forever
(09:02):
by this. Thank you so much, and thank you to
the Recording Academy. We will never forget that you did
this for us. Thank you so much. Miranda Lambert wins
Best Country Album for wild Card, So I'm very thankful
for this and thankful for j Joyce, who had three
albums in this category. Actually and branding myself and all
the songwriters and musicians who made wild Card. What it
is in this tattoo that inspired it. Thanks to my family,
(09:23):
my husband, my manager, Marion Kraft, my band and crew.
I missed the hell out of y'all and I can't
wait to get back out of the vans. I love
you so much. Thank you. There you go. Marion Morris
performed The Bones with John Mayer playing guitar. Sure can
to put love ki, but we built this so nothing's
(09:47):
have a gun to move with all other pay Did
he sing? No? I didn't think so either, Like a
little bit back up, but no. You can hear him
just his guitar play and you get a solo A
Lionel Richie performed Lady during the Kenny Rogers tribute because
he wrote this or Kenny Rogers. Sure, and Miranda Lambert
(10:14):
performed Bluebird. He's just think about Beyonce, which I was
a bit wrong. She is the number one artist of
all time. But Quincy Jones is overall the biggest Grammy win. Right, Yeah,
(10:39):
that's right because he he's a female. Yeah, but even
Quincy Jones had to have something that doesn't have to
people like producing. Yeah, So I think she's won the
most for being an artist and is the number one
female period. Quincy Jones is number one, but it's not
like quinc Jones is a bunch of a bunch of
records words. Quincy Jones singing right for number one artist.
It was a good night for the ladies who won
(10:59):
the top out four awards again. Taylor Billie Eilish. Her
got Song of the Year. Can you play that song? Yeah?
Where what's called? I Can't Breathe? And do a Leap?
I got Best Pop Vocal Album. I love do a Leap?
His music like that levitating song. This one's good. This
(11:21):
is the first one I love from her more than
New Rules. New Rules was fine too. That was great
and that levitating is jam to Megan the Stallion won
Best New Artist, first female rapper to do it since
Lauren hill In. So, if the Baby was your favorite performance,
what was next? The opening? Harry styles and high and
(11:44):
played and I just thought it was a great way
to kick get off. And he's really good live what
they do. Um, he did Watermelon Sugar, Okay, that's here
on sum evening. He be young. It sounds good, it's good.
(12:05):
Did your boy post Malone perform. He did perform what
he did? Uh? Hollywood's Bleeding, the first song off his
album call Me said, you want to see me, but
you care right now? What would you say? Was the
biggest surprise of the night last night? The biggest surprise,
(12:27):
oh man, like the biggest upset, the biggest upset for me?
Um for rock album. I really wanted this artist, Phoebe
Bridges to win. She was up for four awards and
one zero. I saw her on Instagram posting an old
picture of her with her hands crossed and she was
like these are all them? Yeah? And even like Elton
John came out before the awards and was like, hey,
(12:48):
and she doesn't win, I'm punching somebody, So even like
he was behind her and I thought she was great
and that album was like my favorite last year and
I can't believe she didn't win anything. What do they
get right? Um? I really think the Life Offormance is
the way they put everything together, Like I don't care
that it's not that it's not live. I think having
those all prerecorded actually made the thing better. And then
Trevor Noah was actually really good and in an awards
(13:11):
show where he had nobody to bounce off with. Usually
they bring other people to do stuff with him. It
was good, it was funny, and he kept the show moving,
and that's a really hard thing to do. I don't
know if I would like the live thing, really, I
don't know if I like it when it's not live. Um, okay,
anything else that you thought was really great about the show? Um?
Kind of weird was how much well they did wop
(13:34):
And it was weird to just turn on the TV
and see that happening on. Like if somebody was just
turning that on randomly, I think that would be really weird.
Did they say the word? They didn't say the P
word word. It was all blurred All the curswing was
blurred out. But the actual content of this song when
they're describing everything was still in there since it was recorded.
Can you still say their mouths saying it? Yeah, but
(13:55):
it's just silenced. But I mean they're still doing the
dance and everything, and it's already be up there and
basically wearing nothing. What's the worst part of the show, Ah,
I mean, I think just the fact that I don't
really care to see the awards given away on TV.
That's at least fun part of it. When they actually
give the awards away, it's like, you don't really care.
It adds nothing to it. Do you still think a
(14:18):
awards show should be three and a half hours long? No,
Like by the end of it, we're like, this is
this is going on way too long. They had like
three more performances ago and it was already way over.
So no, I'd say make it an hour, right, Yeah,
it's you would almost like a streaming service to get
ahold of a big awards show. Yeah, because you could
(14:39):
fast forward through. You could. I mean, they could do
different kinds of music, Like if you want to watch
the Country Grammys, there's an hour of that you pick
your selection. Yeah, because it's just a lot to watch
to sit down, Like I'm waiting for post Malone and
I have to wait till like the third hour of
the show. So but overall you rate it, I would
(15:00):
give it a little like at three point five, that's
pretty good. I thought it was enjoyable. They did a
good job in a putting good show together in COVID times,
so I have to found it more enjoyable in many years.
Best country song The High Women crowded table, play a
little bit of this. We'll run this category real quick,
where the crowle and then Best Country Solo performance Vince
(15:31):
Gill when my Amy Praise Ship gave me my Foost bibble.
It's just right be sad, Dan and Shay one again.
I think it's the third in a row. Huh, I
mean slowly, how are they not being recognized as the
(15:54):
biggest thing? You know? Speed? Hi? All right, well, thank
you for your you know your perspective, thank you for
watching it. I was watching I was watching American idols,
so I didn't not watch some clips today and I
watched a few small clips of different clips, like I
didn't watch full performances. I just gonna, you know, scirting
(16:15):
through them a little bit. I watch some of the
John Mary one. But I never saw him sing. Yeah,
that was disappointing. I thought maybe he'd sing a little
bit like because she has the Hosier version. I was like,
he's gonna do that, that's true, and think about and
then she started thinking. I was like, oh, is he
gonna do anything? It's still cool to get him up there?
All right, there you go, by the way, follow Mike.
We're just talking about this pro one on there and
follow Mike on TikTok. Yeah, because he if he gets
ten thousand followers, he can then monetize his account some money.

in that interview. So go listen to that in the
