Speaker 1 (00:10):
Hey, everybody, Welcome to the Large Nerdon Collider, the podcast
that's all about the geeky things happening in the world
around us and how very excited we are about them.
I'm Ariel cast in and with me as always, and
we're both back after long last is my amazing friend
and co host Jonathan Strickland.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
The podcasters, they're beckon down the podcasters.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
Yeah, we makes sound cool.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
We were on a bit of a hiatus for multiple reasons.
We actually had an episode another lost episode. There's a
couple of those now, a lost episode because we actually
recorded one. But then all chaos broke loose in my
life and I'm the one who edits the show and
it just never made it to publishing. That's totally on me.

(00:56):
Ariel bears no responsibility for that one. And then the
following weeks both of us had crazy schedules. Now, Ariel's
got lots of stuff going on in her life. I
had a brand new show launching on my slate of
shows over at iHeart, and that took over my life

(01:16):
still technically is, but it's a little more manageable right now.
So yeah, it really impacted us recording this, but we
missed it so much and figured that it was only
a matter of time before we came back, and we
figured we had to come back on the week following
San Diego Comic Con because wohden't you know it? A
lot was announced?

Speaker 1 (01:36):
Goodness gracious, so much.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
Yeah, we're only going to talk about like like ten
percent of what happened at Comic Con because there's just
two It would take two episodes just to cover the
comic Con stuff.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
Yes, and Jonathan's going to keep me in line because
I didn't. I read the highlights from Comic Con and
I kind of followed as it happened, though it was busy,
so I certainly missed, but I didn't make amazing notes
like Jonathan.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
Did on it, So I like that you call it
amazing notes. In some cases, it's literally they showed a
trailer and like some cases, like the trailers that they
showed have subsequently been released online and we've got a
few of those in our lineup that we'll talk about too.
But in some cases, it's one of those things where
it was exclusive to the people who are at Comic Con,
and the rest of us peons will get it eventually,

(02:25):
but it's not out yet.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
Yeah, it's not as bad as Cinema Con or.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
D twenty three, which, by the way, is happening next weekend,
not this not this weekend, but next weekend. So yeah, August,
as it turns out, becomes a huge month for announcements.
So we'll be talking not so much about the D
twenty three stuff because obviously that hasn't happened yet, but
we'll definitely talk about the comic con before we get
to all that. Though. We usually like to start episodes

(02:52):
by talking about stuff that we have seen since the
last time we recorded, and since the last time we
recorded it was like a month ago, I imagine that
there are a few things to talk about there are.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
I didn't put everything that I've been watching down, but
I put down some highlights. I finished the final season
of Star Trek Discovery, which was delightful and ended in
a way that it ties back into the universe in
like other stuff that they've set up, so that was nice.
It took me like four days to finish the last

(03:26):
twenty minutes of the final episode, though, because I just
kept getting pulled away like I wanted to give it
my attention, so I didn't put it on when I work,
which is what I do with a lot of stuff
sometimes usually with Nautilus Live. But if that's not on,
then I'll put on a show. But I really wanted
to pay attention and so it just took forever, but
I enjoyed It might have been my favorite season. I've

(03:50):
been watching Never Stop Blowing Up on Dropout, which is
their current dimension twenty actual play. It's a game based
on like the Kids on Bikes Kids on Broom system,
and it's got a lot of fun mechanics and it's
just bonkers. It's so bonkers that even my husband is
watching it and he doesn't watch actual plays.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
So this is the one that takes a lot of
inspiration from like eighties and nineties era action movies.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
Yeah yeah, So to spoil the first episode, tune out
for thirty seconds if you don't want the spoiler. It's
all these people who work at like a video store
who get sucked into a VHS and embody these action heroes.
So it's very like Jimungi hmm meets diehard ish.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
We also both watched Ratfish on Dropout and that was
I loved it.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
Yeah, I've I keep up with most dropout shows. There
are a couple that I don't really watch just because
they haven't grabbed me as much, and I'll watch like
the occasional episode, but I haven't finished. But Game Changer,
I'm actually all of those I've I've complete. But yeah,
Ratfish was a really great game. It was based on

(05:03):
the Circle, but it was all people pretending to be
fictional characters for the well percent of people pretending to
be fictional characters.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
And one of them pretending to be one of the
actual players.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
Yes poorly uh, and just playing with each other. And
whereas a lot of games, in Game Changer sometimes the
players find frustrating, which I think is kind of for
the camera because they know going in. But sometimes if,
like if you don't guess the game or you do poorly,
once you do the guess the game, it can still
be frustrating. This one, it seemed they all enjoyed all
the way through.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
Well, one guy in particular was grousing a bit about
having to stay there after already being eliminated from the game.
But I'm not going to name names because people may
want to go and watch it.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
I've vieeded that out of my brain.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
It was fun it was fun. The basic concept being
that you know, they all had I created identities and
they only interacted through a saly texting. They were all
put up in a hotel in different hotel rooms, and
they didn't even know which other members of Dropout were
participating in the game, which made it even more complicated.

(06:12):
And yeah, I just found it an exceedingly entertaining game.
I thought the ending surprised me, but I and I
was surprised to see the order of eliminations, especially the
first one. But it was a really fun show.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
Yeah, the first elimination, I was really sad. I won't
harp on this too long because anybody who hasn't watched
us no idea. The first to elimination made me really
sad because that's my favorite player slash character by far.
But I also kind of knew who won because social
media dropped hints that ruined it from me.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
Yeah, I knew who won because there was a YouTube
video where someone asked a question of the one of
the players that revealed the winner. And this was before
I had watched the act and it hadn't been out
for that long. When I saw that, I was like,
what a bummer? Like we'll be talking more about spoilers.

(07:09):
I'm sure a little bit because I didn't run this
by you before we started recording Aeriel. But I'm assuming
you're on the same page as I am, which is
that one of the other things both of us watched
was Deadpool and Wolverine, and I think a moratorium on
spoilers is absolutely necessary for that film.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
Yeah, yeah, I definitely think so. I like we can
give our general impressions and whether we think you should
see it or not if you haven't already. I'm guessing
a lot of you already have. But yeah, I don't
want to. I don't want to spoil things. I knew
the one because somebody had posted a picture of the
billboard before the episode, even the first episode.

Speaker 2 (07:45):
Right, the winner got a billboard on Hollywood Boulevard, so
that was that was the prize, and they could have
whatever they wanted on that billboard. So having a picture
of the billboard obviously tells you who the winner was.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
Yeah, which is really interesting because I don't think you
watch thousand Airs, which is another new show this season
on Dropout, where a panel of friends are given one
thousand dollars to spend any way they'd like to entertain
their friends, and then the winner gets a prized that's
one thousand dollars from the host of that episode, and
the host changes every episode and the friends change every episode,
and it's delightful and one of the episodes the winner.

(08:24):
This was also before it aired, the winner was given
pr lessons as a part of that thousand air episode
and that kind of tied into it too.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
Gotcha, so you also saw dead Bull and Wolverine. What
was your like, what was your take? Did you enjoy it?

Speaker 1 (08:43):
I did? Yeah, you know it. I definitely think that
it has a specific audience built in. I think if
you're a younger Deadpool viewer, you may not get a
lot of the references in it.

Speaker 2 (09:05):
Yeah, there are a lot of references to properties or
proposed properties from the Fox era of Marvel. So in fact,
most of them, I would say most of the references
are actually from the Fox era, not all, but most
that and that could mean that if you're younger and

(09:26):
you're not as familiar with the Fox era, those references
might be lost on you.

Speaker 1 (09:32):
Yeah, which I actually liked because some of the Fox
stuff that came out was really good, and then some
of it was just okay or not great, but I
appreciate appreciating it because one, you know, it's Deadpool and Wolverine, right,
and so Wolverine's part of the X Men. X Men
came out long before we got iron Man or Thor

(09:56):
or any of that stuff. So Fox walked so so
MCU could run. Yeah, so I appreciate that. And also
as an actor, sometimes you're involved in projects that don't
end up good, but that doesn't mean you didn't put
your whole heart into it to entertain people and bring
value to somebody's day. And to remember that is just wonderful.

Speaker 2 (10:18):
Yeah. I think most of the Fox Marvel stuff was decent.
X Men three is probably the one that I would
hold up as saying this was not very good. But
the stuff that I think of as being more misfires
is actually on the Sony side, not the Fox side.

Speaker 1 (10:37):
I mean Wolverine origins.

Speaker 2 (10:39):
Wolverine origins, yeah, which they have referenced in Deadpool before.
But yeah, that's because Deadpool shows up in Wolverine origins,
but it's not the version that you are used to.

Speaker 1 (10:51):
But again, that was Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool or in
Wolverine origins and so again, I don't think we would
have Deadpool and Wolf, or Deadpool two or Deadpool one
if it hadn't been free So.

Speaker 2 (11:03):
How of the three, how does this one stack up
for you?

Speaker 1 (11:08):
I think that the story in one and two is better,
but I think the story in three is still enjoyable.
And I was surprised many times throughout the movie in delightful,
delightful ways that I can't talk about that I've talked
about behind the scenes. Yeah, and I really enjoyed it.

(11:28):
I would see it again. I will probably own it
along with the other Deadpool movies. It was super raunchy.

Speaker 2 (11:35):
They're not as raunchy as the first two, Like it
was really oh yeah, come on.

Speaker 1 (11:41):
There was some stuff in three that I was like,
this is more raunchy, but you know each other.

Speaker 2 (11:46):
I'm thinking of the montage in part one with all
the holidays, and I'm pretty sure that one wins out
over three.

Speaker 1 (11:55):
Maybe maybe it wasn't super graphic.

Speaker 3 (12:00):
That montage, I don't think, but you know, they make
jokes about it about the fact that they have the
the limits on what they can do because of Disney,
But that even made the trailer, so that's not a spoiler.

Speaker 1 (12:15):
Yeah. Yeah, but I've really enjoyed all of like the
just the interviews with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman that
have been happening.

Speaker 2 (12:22):
I've enjoyed most of them. But man, that was a
pr blitz.

Speaker 1 (12:27):
It was It was a lot, But it looks like
they're having fun.

Speaker 2 (12:30):
Did you see their Hot Ones episode?

Speaker 1 (12:32):
I did. Yeah. I feel like if you haven't watched
the movie and you have avoided spoilers, continue to do
so because it really is better to be surprised. I
like a lot of things they did with the movie,
with with some of the plot lines, it just made
me absolutely delighted.

Speaker 2 (12:49):
Yeah. We went with to see it with our friend
of the show, Shaye Lee and uh and I have
to say that if you're gonna see a raunchy comedy movie,
sitting next to is guaranteed to be just as entertaining
because she laughs loud and hard.

Speaker 1 (13:07):
Yeah. Yeah. The other thing I'll say about Deadpool and
I almost said versus Wolverine, but it's just dead Pool
and Wolverine. The villain was really good, Like they Cassandra Nova.
The character is not somebody that I was super familiar
with in general, but the actor that played them was

(13:27):
just it was effortless, and the villain was scary and
fun and enjoyable and not too over the top and
like had an easy to understand motive and just just
one of the MCU's better villains.

Speaker 2 (13:42):
I would say, yeah, I agree, at least as far
as being kind of intimidating and such, I think that
they did a great job. I think if I'm gonna
pick the best villains who have shown up in MCU
or MCU adjacent projects, I think my award is still

(14:03):
going to kill Monger for perhaps the best one. But
and maybe Vulture from Spider Man.

Speaker 1 (14:11):
I really liked those two. Kill Monger unfortunately suffered from
CGI ending and that wasn't that wasn't yeah Michael B.
Jordan's fault.

Speaker 2 (14:21):
Yeah, that that was the standard Marvel thing about third
act turns into a PS four game.

Speaker 1 (14:28):
Yeah, yeah, I liked the villain in the first Doctor Strange. Again,
I think they had like an understandable, followable motive. I
know a lot that that's divisive on a lot of people,
but yeah, I like the Doctor Strange villain. Well you
you also not Dormammu, but the low level villain, right.

Speaker 2 (14:45):
The guy who still steals the paper. Not Morto either, right,
because that's Michaelson. Yeah, yeah, well you have on our
notes here. You also have one other thing you wanted
to talk about that you watched while we were on hiatus.

Speaker 1 (14:59):
Yes, and this show. Oh man. So it's Scavenger's Rain,
which started on HBO and then got moved to Netflix
because thankfully they're not just shelving everything. They're selling stuff
off now. It's an original sci fi cartoon. It is
definitely not for kids. Nothing like super explicit has been done,

(15:19):
but it is like there's just some very disturbing stuff
in it. It's very alien, aliens ads adjacent. You know,
maybe an older kid might be able to handle it,
but there's a there's a lot of I am enjoying it.
It like they do such a good job at building
the world in a way that feels so alien that

(15:39):
you're like, what the heck is going on? I can't
look away because I'm gonna miss something and keeping it fresh.
I told my friends that I was watching with after
the first episodes only one. I don't have to watch Aliens, Romulin, Romulus, uh,
because this is this is plenty enough spooky sci fi for.

Speaker 2 (16:03):
Me, probably not quite as much body horror, not as much.

Speaker 1 (16:08):
I mean, there's still some scary, weird, gross stuff in there,
but not as much by any means. And it's a cartoon.
It's a very simply drawn cartoon too, so you know,
it's just not going to be quite as visceral. There
are some things. But it's got a great voice cast,
and it's kind of got the problem of like, it's

(16:30):
good and it's interesting and it's new, and I kind
of wrote it off because the animation is so simple.
It just the style didn't grab me. And I think
a lot of people wrote it off because it was
a cartoon, but a whole bunch of people who did
watch it are like, we want a season two, and
so far it doesn't look like that's gonna happen. But
then it just also got an Emmy nod, so maybe

(16:50):
it will happen. It's got a great voice cast, including
someone who was in Deadpool and Wolverine as well as
I can't remember the actress's name, but she was maybe
in Arrested Development. They were maybe in Arrested Development. Is
also a voice in it, and it's I enjoy it
if you like spooky sci FI. I recommend it. It's

(17:12):
on Netflix. It's one season but two episodes in and
I'm like, what the heck, So.

Speaker 2 (17:18):
I'll definitely have to check that out because, like, I
still have a ton of stuff to watch. It's still
my to watch list is still incredibly long, but I
have been tackling it. So I also saw Deadpool and Wolverine,
but we've already talked about that, But the other.

Speaker 1 (17:37):
Where does it fall for real? Quick? Where does it
fall for you? In the three movie?

Speaker 2 (17:40):
Probably Deadpool one is probably my favorite. Deadpool and Wolverine
is next, and Deadpool two is third, but it's real close,
and tomorrow I might give you a different order, Like gotcha,
there was something that happened in Deadpool and Wolverine where
I was like, I thought that particular character was dead

(18:04):
uh huh, but that particular character is now showing up.
And sure we have the explanation in Deadpool two that
Deadpool has access to a time machine. I just couldn't
remember at the end of dead Bool two if that
was one of those things that was shown, like the
rescue of that character, if that happened, and I haven't

(18:24):
gone back to watch Deadpool two to find out.

Speaker 1 (18:26):
Yeah. I do wish I had watched Deadpool two before
seeing Deadpool and Wolverine, just to there are a couple
of things that I was like, what, just what? Okay,
I guess yeah, okay.

Speaker 2 (18:36):
Yeah, because this was a case where I'm like, that
person was very mostly sincerely dead in Deadpool two, so
why are they there? Also, well, no, that's another spoiler. Okay,
I'm not gonna I'll off Mike off recording. I will
ask you about something because I thought it was a
cop out for Deadpool and Wolverine. But but it's a

(18:57):
minor issue, Like it's one of those actually kind of
things where you're like, actually, how would that work? Anyway.
I also actually started and then watched all of what
we do in the Shadows, the TV series, up to
up to the end of season five, and season six

(19:18):
comes out in October, so.

Speaker 1 (19:20):
It's a lot of what we do in the Shadow.

Speaker 2 (19:22):
But each season is like eight to ten episodes long,
and they're about and they're about a half hour, so
it's not it's not as much as it sounds on
first blush. You're talking about the equivalent of four to
five hours per season, and there's five seasons, so Becca
and I we sat up late and watched you know,

(19:44):
we would binge like two or three episodes, sometimes three
or four per night, and we got through them real quick.
So we finished season five last night, in fact, and
very much enjoy it. You Know, my favorite character varies
from season to season because sometimes characters suddenly sport specific

(20:07):
motivations and character traits that were not present in other seasons.
They are not consistent by any stretch of the imagination.
So my favorite character's changed depending on what's going on
in seasons. But I am consistently entertained by it. And
then I've watched the first well, I'll come back to it.

(20:29):
I watched The Boys all of season four. I can't
remember if I had done that before we went on hiatus,
but I'm all caught up on that. Yeah, okay, so
I'm all caught up on the Boys. I'm not excited
about season five because I feel like season four was
a lot of treading water, you know, to kill time

(20:50):
before season five, which is supposed to be the last
season of the Boys. Whether it will be or not
is still an open question.

Speaker 1 (20:59):
I feel like maybe we talked about this in the
last episode, which we didn't release.

Speaker 2 (21:03):
Oh yeah, yeah, Yeah, that's why I feel like I
haven't talked about it, because I did talk about it.
Y'all just didn't hear it. Ariel didn't though, So anyway, Yeah,
The Boys, I didn't really care, Like, I didn't think
season four was bad, but I did feel like it
was a lot of stalling so that season five can happen.

(21:25):
Like I didn't, I didn't feel like it was justified.

Speaker 1 (21:29):
I've heard a lot of reviews also saying, I mean,
basically around certain story points that the show runner, writer whomever,
Eric k Eric Kriske, Yeah, kind of lost the point
of the show at a couple of points and did
things more out of malicious humor than to make a

(21:50):
salient point or give compassion to a situation that maybe
should have compassion.

Speaker 2 (21:54):
Yeah, they're so in two separate occasions in the show.
I mean, Huey exists to be tortured, that's all. That's
his reison d'etre in The Boys. Apparently, like every time
they send Huie in to do something, I'm like, have
you not learned that every time hue is the one

(22:16):
who has to go in and do something, stuff goes
wrong and he gets absolutely tortured as a result. Why
do you keep making him be the guy who goes
into the place like that makes no sense. But yeah,
there's like I won't use the language because this is
a family friendly show, but he has put through a

(22:40):
couple of different cases of abuse and it's played up
for laughs both times, and it's really disturbing that it
was used as it was used as a joke, whereas
like the show, season four is all about people kind
of coming to grips with their trauma. None of it,

(23:01):
by the way, I felt resolved in a way that
was satisfactory. Like I wasn't satisfied by any I saw
what he was doing, but it felt so by the
numbers for the resolution part that it didn't feel like
it was earned based upon the serious amount of drama
that trauma caused. So anyway, that's my own personal opinion.

(23:24):
I still will watch season five. I want to see
how it all wraps up, assuming it does wrap up,
if they announced they're going to do it season six,
maybe I won't bother And we'll talk later in the
episode about another Boys related announcement that came out of
San Diego Comic Con. The other thing I watched was
the first few episodes of the Time Bandits series which

(23:48):
Taiko Watiti and Jamaine Clement have been presenting. Jamayne plays
Ultimate Evil, which was what David Warner played that character
in the original Time be movie. Taiko a Tit plays God,
so in.

Speaker 1 (24:05):
Lisa Kudro is also in it, who's also a very
funny per.

Speaker 2 (24:07):
Lisa Kudro is playing the leader, not really the leader
of the bandits. So in the original Time Bandits all
the bandits were played by little people actors who were
playing all the different characters like Widget, and I think
it was Fidget actually Fidget in the movie Widget. In
the TV series, they are not played by little people

(24:28):
actors in the In the television series, they're all actors
of of average stature. Lisa Kudro is kind of the leader,
not leader of them. I will say this, I prefer
the film. I think the sense of humor in the
film works more for me. I am enjoying the series

(24:54):
to an extent enough to keep watching. But I think
and some of the performances are fantastic. The boy they
got to play the lead character, he's great. But and
the different range different eras they visit are really interesting.
It's not the same thing that was in the film version,

(25:15):
but I think I prefer the original movie. I have
a deep love for that film. It's a very flawed
fantasy comedy, but I think I prefer it to the series. However,
I'll still watch the series that's on Apple TV. Plus
it's worth checking out.

Speaker 1 (25:34):
I want to watch the other one that we talked
about that has Rashida Jones in it her name.

Speaker 2 (25:39):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I remember seeing the trailer for it,
and I cannot, for the life of me remember remember
what that that was called.

Speaker 1 (25:50):
It's called Sonny, Okay, And I want to watch it
because I keep seeing trailers for it, and maybe I
keep seeing trailers for it because I looked it up,
but you know, positive.

Speaker 2 (26:00):
Yeah, well, that's it for what we've seen. And now
we've got a whole thirty seconds or less section to
blast through before we go and talk about all the
trailers and comic Con news.

Speaker 1 (26:16):
We might have to keep ourselves, you know, we're not
super long into the episode already, but we might have
to keep ourselves.

Speaker 2 (26:22):
Kind yeah, moving at a clip down.

Speaker 1 (26:24):
Yeah yeah, So first thirty seconds or less story Deadpool
and Wolverine that is good. Yeah. Right now, it's made
a bunch of movie, a bunch of Oh my god,
that's so distracting.

Speaker 2 (26:42):
I thought I would try it. I guess that's not
going to work.

Speaker 1 (26:45):
Oh no, it was my suggestion. We can do it again.

Speaker 2 (26:47):
No no, no, no, I'll I'll get this is a gimme.
It's a mull again start over, and I'll keeping all
of this in, but I'll do the regular music.

Speaker 1 (26:58):
Sorry, okay, dead Pool or no music at all, whichever.
Dipol and Wolverine is now the ninth biggest rated hit
in the domestic box office. That's pretty huge. It's making
a bunch of money. It's made like two hundred and
eighty million domestic in like five hundred and fifty million international,

(27:18):
and that was like yesterday, so it could have made
more by today. But that's that's really good news, I
guess for the movie industry that has been struggling. It's
still struggling, but you know, still good news. And it
is also done better than several recent MCU movies, although
the one I'm sad about it did better than shang Chi,

(27:40):
and I thought shang Chi was fantastic.

Speaker 2 (27:43):
So okay, we'll be talking about the news from Comic
Con later today, but one thing that wasn't really covered
would be Marvel's Disney Plus series. Thankfully, Charlie Cox recently
gave some updates on the eighteen episode Daredevil Born Again series.
He revealed that the characters Karen and Foggy Nelson will
both return after some rewrites and reshoots, and that King

(28:06):
Pen and Punisher will be back too. The series will
reportedly have its own tone, distinct from the Netflix versions,
but will still be gritty and violent. And it's gonna
come out in twenty twenty five.

Speaker 1 (28:17):
Quee, I've you know, like, okay, three seconds to us. Sorry,
Squid Games. Squid Games two is coming out December twenty sixth,
twenty twenty four. It's been a really long time. But
don't worry. You're not gonna have to wait as long
between season two and season three because season three comes
out in twenty twenty five and it's the final season.

(28:38):
I still haven't gotten through season one. I'm like halfway
in and every time I go I need.

Speaker 2 (28:42):
To watch Squid Games.

Speaker 1 (28:43):
I'm like public, there's something more fun.

Speaker 2 (28:46):
Well, sad news for fans and renegade now, the Disney
Plus series is not getting a second season. The series
followed a young woman's experiences as a highwayman in eighteenth
century England, had a little bit of magic added there,
and it won a few really passionate fans, including friends
of ours, but not enough people watch the series. It seems.

(29:08):
Ariel and I both share blame on that one. I
know it's not the same thing at all. But Apple
TV Plus did renew The completely made up Adventures of
Dick Turpin for a second season earlier this month, so
that's something.

Speaker 1 (29:21):
Yeah, yeah, But in positive news, it's taken a while.
Everything has taken a while because of the various strikes.
Right now, there's a video game voice voice actor strike. Reasonable,
but you know the AATSI just finished. Before that, it
was actors, and before that it was writers. So IATSI

(29:42):
Chemster's just signed an agreement. I think it might need
to be RIGHTIFU anyhow, But Box mockin of season three
is coming October third. They've released their first little clip
from the show, and it looks delightful and just as
good as the first two seasons. They've also released like
some line art based like storyboard animations from mighty nine,

(30:03):
which is also coming but probably in twenty twenty five.
But it's good to know that both of these things
are still on the slate because people were wondering.

Speaker 2 (30:10):
The choose your own adventure style horror game Until Dawn
is getting a film adaptation, and we have some information
on casting. Peter Stormayer, Maya, Mitchell Belmont Camelli are joining
a cast that also has Ella Rubin, Michael Samino, g
Young You, and Odessa Aziong. Shooting is to begin in
a couple of weeks. The game harkens back to horror

(30:32):
genre films like I Know What You Did Last Summer,
mixed in with some supernatural horror. Will a film adaptation
be as riveting as the game? I have my concerns.
I also wonder if they'll end it like Clue and
say this is how it could have happened. Because the
big thing and then Until Dawn is your decisions affect
who lives and who dies. So there are like lots
of potential endings of that game.

Speaker 1 (30:52):
It just needs to be a choose your own in
the movie theater choose your own ending. Everybody gets a
screen that pops up in front of their face and
they get to speaking of realizations of films. Warhammer forty thousand,
this is news, not news. Warhammer forty thousand may or
may not happen. Kleider reported that it depends on everybody

(31:15):
hitting getting an agreement over creative guidelines by December twenty
twenty four. But they set a year deadline in December
of twenty twenty three, so it takes time, and I'm
sure it takes longer again with all the strikes happening.
But I know that we've talked about how excited Henry
cavill is for this property. Hopefully they'll come to an agreement.

Speaker 2 (31:36):
James Gunn announced this week that production has wrapped on Superman,
the film that will launch the latest in a long
line of Clark Kents. The movie is to be released
on July eleventh of twenty twenty five, assuming post production
goes as planned. David corn Sweat plays Soups. Rachel Brosnahan
is Lois Lane. Nicholas Holt continues to play bad guys

(31:56):
by being Lex Luthor. There are a lot of other
heroes and villains who will appear in the film as well,
from Metamorpho to Mister Griffic to Otis to Jimmy Olson.

Speaker 1 (32:06):
I kind of said when they posted their first at
the Studios in Atlanta picture that that was too much
sexy for Atlanta to hold, But yeah, I guess I
hold it hold to that. Still, Deadline is doing great
at their article naming. They just released one called Breaking
Bads and it talks about Sigourney Weaver playing Prospero in

(32:26):
the West End starting in December, and I'd be like,
that's cool. I like traveling to see funky people do
fun theater. But then also in the article they talk
about Tom Hidleston and Haley Atwell doing Much Ado about
Nothing in like February, and I'm like, UK, I cannot
spend that much money to go visit you.

Speaker 2 (32:46):
Wow, I didn't know about the Hidleston and at Well
thing right and much how Much Ado is my favorite
Shakespearean comedy And I will be telling Becca at this
as soon as this episode's over, and I have a
feeling we'll be planning a trip to the UK to
see that, because holy cats. First of all, that's going

(33:10):
to be the most frickin attractive version of mush Todo
about Nothing I've ever seen. I mean, yes, yes, I
have a crush on both of those actors, so.

Speaker 1 (33:22):
You know, and I will say, like it's hard because
I really like the version with David Tennant and Catherine.

Speaker 2 (33:30):
To Oh yeah, that one's fantastic too. So well, because
Katherine Tate and David Tennant they have such amazing chemistry,
right and and they really bring the fire of Benedict
and Beatrice. And Catherine Tate is so good at being
arch and pointed and she can cut right to the

(33:51):
bone at will though I feel like she has that
same capability like you started to see a little bit
of that, like Agent Carter and stuff. Right, So, and
hit'll Hidleston's been good in everything I've ever seen him in.

Speaker 1 (34:03):
So his performance in The Royal shakespare this is either
National Theater or Royal Shakespeare Company. They might be the
same thing. I don't know. I'm losing my geek card
over that. His portrayal of Coriolanus was amazing.

Speaker 2 (34:15):
Wow. Also one of the least produced Shakespearean plays, right
up there with Timon of Athens and Pericles.

Speaker 1 (34:24):
All Right, I was never a fan until he performed it.

Speaker 2 (34:27):
So well, let's kick this episode right in the Coriolanus
and talk about talk about the that's I took that
line from I took that line from Brush Up Your
Shakespeare from Kiss Me Kate, so that's I can't take
credit for it. Kiss Me Kate did it way better
and earlier. But yeah, let's talk about San Diego Comic

(34:47):
Con and some of the news that came out of it.
So I do have, like like Ariel said at the beginning,
some rudimentary notes just to kind of touch on it.
Like I said, we're not going to talk about everything.
There was way too much, so.

Speaker 1 (35:01):
Yeah, how do how do you even? I guess the
biggest news to me that came out of it was
the whole Robert Downey Junior thing.

Speaker 2 (35:07):
Yeah, okay, so first off, some of the news that
came out of San Diego Comic Con contained spoilers for
Dead bulll and Wolverine. So we're not going to cover
any of that because, like we said at the top,
we think that's a movie that if you want to
see it, you should see it without any spoilers, or
as few spoilers as you can. I went into it

(35:28):
with a couple of spoilers, but thankfully, some of the
biggest moments I did not expect and that was delightful.
But yeah, one of the big stories. It's part of
It's part of a huge story for Disney, which is
obviously that Jonathan Major's after being found guilty of domestic abuse,

(35:50):
has effectively been wiped from the multiverse. He had been
playing Kang, and there was a lot of speculation as
to whether Disney would recast Kang because they have recast
actors before. Heck, one of the other actors who's coming
up in upcoming Marvel films, Harrison Ford. He is replacing
William Hurt. Now in that case, it's because William Hurt

(36:12):
passed away, but he will be playing Thunderbolt Ross in
William Hurt's place. But you know, they recast war Machine,
for example, so there was some speculation that that could
happen again. It is not. We originally was going to
have the you know, Avengers King Dynasty as the next
Avengers movie. Now it's Avengers Doomsday with Doctor Doom as

(36:38):
the villain, and Robert Downey Jr. Has been announced as
the actor who will be playing Doctor Doom, which obviously
raises more questions, right is this is he playing a
variant of Tony Stark from somewhere else in the multiverse
and this Tony Stark adopts the identity of doctor Doom.
Is he actually playing Victor von Doom, who, for some

(37:02):
reason happens to look and sound just like Tony Stark.
We don't know.

Speaker 1 (37:08):
Yeah, yeah, I'm happy to wait to find out. I
want to give the MCU time to really massage their
story so that it's better, because they've been talking about
doing that after the last few flops, like really making
sure that what they present is new and fun and exciting.

(37:32):
I will say side note to this with Doctor Doom.
I did accidentally catch the leaked footage from Fantastic four.

Speaker 2 (37:41):
Wow, someone shot that on a cell phone.

Speaker 1 (37:45):
I take it and yeah, and like, I'm sure it's
down now. But I kind of was like, what is
this And by the time I knew, I'm like, oh, well,
that's what I just watched.

Speaker 2 (37:53):
Well, I read I read a description about the footage,
because like, clearly, I'm people have to report on something
so Fantastic four. They did show a first look at
some of the footage from that, not so much a
trailer as kind of I guess kind of like a trailer,
just not an official trailer is From what I understand,

(38:14):
the film is called Fantastic four first Steps, and the
bit of the trailer actually does have a reveal for Galactus,
the Devourer of Worlds. The other thing that was confirmed
is that Fantastic Four does largely take place in an
alternate version of Earth, and it's in the nineteen sixties,
so it has kind of a period piece feel to it,

(38:37):
but an alternate version of the nineteen sixties, like almost
like the nineteen sixties, the futuristic nineteen sixties that people
in the nineteen forties were dreaming of, right, so it's
not an accurate representation of Earth's nineteen sixties. That sounded
really cool. I haven't seen that footage, but it does

(38:57):
sound neat. They also show off some footage from Thunderbolts
Asterisk because not has the asterisk at the end of
the title. That just sounds to me like it is
what everyone says it is, which is Marvel's version of
Suicide Squad, which is funny because DC has a new
version of Suicide Squad we'll talk about too.

Speaker 1 (39:19):
And hey, even Star Trek has a version of Suicide
Squad that we're going to talk about.

Speaker 2 (39:22):
That's that's also true. They also showed off footage from
Captain America Brave New World. This shows like Sam as
Captain America, he is no longer the Falcon, although he
does still have the Falcon suit and can fly and everything,
but now his his buddy has become the Falcon. In
the MCU, the.

Speaker 1 (39:44):
Not Bucky Barnes, Not Bucky Barnes.

Speaker 2 (39:46):
No no, no, no. This is like the guy who
was also in his unit that ends up becoming the
new Falcon. He was in Falcon in the Winter Soldier.
You see more of this character.

Speaker 1 (39:57):
Isn't that character also in the comics, like Phoenix or
something like that might.

Speaker 2 (40:01):
Be, but I think he just takes on the persona
of Falcon. Now now that Sam. Because Sam moves up
to Captain America, this guy gets promoted to Falcon. It's
the chain of command. And in the footage they showed
at San Diego Comic Con, they and they mentioned something
for the first time in the MCU, not the first

(40:22):
time in Marvel movies, but specifically the MCU. It was
our very first time hearing about this mysterious otherworldly metal
called Adamantium.

Speaker 1 (40:36):
In my brain, it's just been already talked about.

Speaker 2 (40:39):
Yeah, yeah, but in MCU so far it's just been vibranium.
And then I don't think they ever mentioned uru as
the metal that Thor's hammer is made from, but like
that's the those the only.

Speaker 1 (40:52):
Two guardians of the Galaxy two.

Speaker 2 (40:56):
It's possible, but yeah.

Speaker 3 (40:59):
I.

Speaker 1 (41:00):
Vibranium is caps shield and also Black Panther.

Speaker 2 (41:05):
Yes, okay, yeah, Vibranium's ability is to absorb kinetic energy.
So you if that's why Captain America can withstand, like
if the Hulk punched his shield, the shield would absorb
the kinetic energy. Although we still see Keptin America get
thrown backwards a lot, so maybe that's to suggest that

(41:25):
the shield has only only a certain amount of ability
to absorb kinetic energy and after that you are still
feeling the effects. But in the footage, you also see
Thunderbolt Ross as played by Harrison Ford, asking Captain America
to reform the Avengers, so that's interesting. And you also
and you also see him transform into Red Hulk.

Speaker 1 (41:51):
Yeah yeah, who who? Who would have thought that Harrison
Ford would still be an action star?

Speaker 2 (41:59):
Yeah? Yeah, and replacing William Hurt at that.

Speaker 1 (42:04):
As it's fine, he seems excited about he seems excited
in the role so I hope he's excited about the role.

Speaker 2 (42:09):
And of course they do some jokes, just like they
did with war Machine. They do some jokes about how
he looks different. He's trying out a new look, and
that's clearly a sly reference to the fact that it's
a different actor playing the part. We got some other
stuff up. Sorry to bore you, Ariel, but we got
some o.

Speaker 1 (42:26):
It's the the AC in here. I don't know if
our listeners can hear it, but it's blowing directly on me.
When I get cold, I go into hibernation.

Speaker 2 (42:33):
Mode, whereas I don't have AC in my room, and
when I get warm, I get that way too, So I.

Speaker 1 (42:38):
Should have turned it off, but it got like immediately sweltering.

Speaker 2 (42:41):
When I did. Oh yeah, I understand. So some other
stuff outside of Disney's Marvel announcements, they some things we're
going to talk about in the lineup, so I'm not
going to bother with those. But they did have a
new trailer for The Penguin, which shows more of how
Oswald aka the Penguin is facing off against Falcone's daughter,

(43:04):
who is you know, they're kind of locked in a
power struggle to take over the crime family. That looks interesting.
We found out about another spin off of the Boys.
This is going to be a prequel called Vault Rising.
It's going to feature Soldier Boy and Stormfront Slash Liberty.
Apparently it's also going to be a murder mystery, and

(43:27):
my guess is it'll be lots of people doing terrible,
terrible things to each other and others.

Speaker 1 (43:34):
Are you gonna watch it or do you think you're
gonna cut your losses after season five?

Speaker 2 (43:38):
Uh? I mean I want to say I'm gonna cut
my losses. But I did watch gen V and that's
going to come back another season, so we'll see. I know,
I try. That's why I watch what we do in
the Shadows. It's even as absurdly dark as it is,

(43:58):
it's more uplifting. Uh. Netflix is still determined to produce
a BioShock film adaptation. They talked about that at Comic Con.
But the original plan was to do like this big
budget film adaptation. Now it sounds like it's going to
be a much smaller budget film with a smaller scope.
Makes you wonder if they're going to be able to

(44:20):
pull it off because BioShock, that's a game that has
a pretty impressive setting, and it seems to me like
whether whether you're looking at Bioshocks one and two or
BioShock Infinite, those settings are insane and it brings to
question like what what corners are they going to have
to cut in order to tell a story set in

(44:43):
one of those worlds. And then we also learned about
Doctor Who getting a spinoff mini series called The War
between Land and.

Speaker 1 (44:51):
Sea, Yeah, which is Doctors not available for it, so
Unit has to step up. And the way that they've
set up Unit in the latest well in the last
few series of Doctor Who, but especially in the latest
series they've developed, they've put a whole bunch of characters
in there that are just so much fun to watch,
and so it's exciting to get to see them kind

(45:11):
of take the center stage like Torchwood did. But one
of the main villains is going to be the Sea Devils,
and I just think they look dorky.

Speaker 2 (45:18):
Yeah. I know nothing about this because I'm not a
Doctor Who fan, so I'm going to withhold judgment. And
there was plenty more that came out of Comic Con.
I don't mean to suggest that the stuff I just
talked about that constitutes everything, or even the most important stuff.
That was the stuff that leaped out to me. But

(45:40):
obviously I didn't cover anything of the actual comics, and
there's tons of other projects I didn't touch on.

Speaker 1 (45:46):
I feel like there are two other important things to
note on because we're going to talk about some of
this and I already kind of alluded to it. Star
Trek has two new shows coming out, and one is
a live action comedy starring one of the voice actors
from Lower Decks, So that's exciting. I guess it's going
to try try to be like comparable to early Early

(46:07):
Times Orville maybe, but I'm glad that they're expanding out
and trying more stuff like a live action comedy. The
other one is they're doing Starfleet Academy with Tilly from
Star Trek Discovery. Also Tag Nataro from Star Trek Discovery,
who's just amazing. Tak Nataro is brilliant and everything, and

(46:28):
then Robert Pricardo, who was from I think Star Trek Voyager,
and I just think that Robert Pricardo and Tignataro in
a show is just the most amount of snark that
you're ever going to get in a show. And I'm
so excited for it. I don't care about Starfleet Academy
as a unit of the universe, but I do care
about seeing these two characters, these two actors interact with

(46:50):
each other.

Speaker 2 (46:50):
So I care about Starfleet Academy only so much as that.
My parents wrote a couple of books in the Starfleet
Academy young adult series, and I would love it if
those would get option to be made into stuff.

Speaker 1 (47:03):
Oh that would be really cool. Hey all you Paramount
Our show, go.

Speaker 2 (47:11):
Look at Brad and Barbara Strickland Starfleet Academy books and
get back to me. Okay, yeah, yeah, all right. So,
like Ariel said, we're gonna touch on some other stuff
that was talked about at San Diego Comic Con throughout
the rest of this. But we've got, let's see, it
looks like approximately one bazillion trailers to talk about.

Speaker 1 (47:30):
Yeah, more accurately, fifteen Ye. So the first is a
movie called four thirty. It's a Kevin Smith movie. It's
the vibe is essentially Kevin Smith does Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

Speaker 2 (47:46):
Yeah, I said that. It feels to me like it
fits snugly between clerks and mal rats. But the general
premises You've got this one young man in high school.
He has a crush. This set in nineteen eighty six.
He has a crush on a girl that goes to
school with him. He works up the courage to ask

(48:10):
her out on a date to go see a film
that's playing at four thirty, and then, because of his
behavior and the behavior of the ne'er dowells he hangs
out with, he gets subsequently banned from the movie theater.
So it becomes kind of like a heist movie about
how can he still keep his date with this young

(48:32):
woman when he has been banned from seeing movies at
this movie theater. And Yeah, as I watched it, I thought, Okay,
it's higher production value than what you see with a
lot of Kevin Smith movies. It looks slicker than a
lot of Kevin Smith films, but it is probably the
most Kevin Smithish feeling film I've seen in a long time.

Speaker 1 (48:57):
Yeah, side note about it also looks cute like it
looks heartwarming, I think.

Speaker 2 (49:04):
But probably also pretty raunchy.

Speaker 1 (49:07):
It probably also pretty raunchy, and a good mix of
like actors you don't know and actors you do you know,
like Kevin Smith does he seems like a cool guy.

Speaker 2 (49:15):
Though.

Speaker 1 (49:15):
Did you hear his story about going to see Deadpool
and Wolverine? No, apparently he couldn't go. He wasn't he
owns a movie theater and he couldn't go. I'm relaying
this from my husband, so I might get some of
the details wrong. But he owns a movie theater and
he wasn't in town to go see it there, so
he looked to he went. He got tickets at some
other movie theater there. He was near where he was,

(49:36):
and I think while he was like getting popcorn or something,
he saw a director he recognized, Randall Kleiser, who is
the director of Greece, was seeing the same Deadpool and
Wolverine as him, and he super loves Grease in that director.

Speaker 2 (49:51):
So what an interesting and weird coincidence.

Speaker 1 (49:55):
Yeah. Yeah, and also just showing that people who like
fanboy over people and they also fanboy over people and
that's kind of delightful.

Speaker 2 (50:04):
Actually, one of my favorite things to watch on YouTube
are compilations of actors fanning out over meeting other actors
or sometimes musicians like it could be that too, but
that's always delightful because it reminds you, oh, there are
also people.

Speaker 1 (50:20):
Yeah, it's it's lovely. Just like the next trailer we're
going to talk about Spelldown.

Speaker 2 (50:26):
Yeah, an animated film. This is coming to Netflix, and
it's funny because it talks about from the creator of
Toy Story and a Bugs Life and cars and Toy
Story two and all this kind of stuff. And I'm like, yeah,
that works a lot better than saying from producer John Lassiter.
Since Lassiter was kind of forced to resign from Disney.

(50:50):
I'm like, no, wonder you didn't use his name, But
that's neither here nor there when you look at the
actual First of all, he didn't write it or direct it.
He's a producer. But the film is an animated fantasy
movie features a young woman who's a princess and her
parents have gone to this mystical forest and they get

(51:12):
transformed into monsters, and the stories about how she's trying
to find a way to get them to change back
into humans while everybody else is thinking, like, we have
to exile these monsters. We can't have our kingdom ruled
by monsters.

Speaker 1 (51:30):
Yeah. I think it's a nice turn on The princess
is the hero story because you don't often see them
like trying to actively save their parents.

Speaker 2 (51:41):
Yeah, well in Disney, their parents are usually dead.

Speaker 1 (51:43):
Yeah. Yeah, I mean I guess Beauty and the Beast
Beauty does Bell does try to save her father, both
in the Disney and in the book version. But I
just I think it looks delightful and funny and cute,
and it's got amazing voice actors.

Speaker 2 (52:00):
Yeah, it definitely gave me vibes of like an early
Pixar film, Like it has that kind of tone to it,
but with updated, you know, language, and like it doesn't
feel dated. It feel it just feels like it has
that same kind of sense of humor and the desire
to tell a story that, ultimately, while on the surface

(52:20):
is absurd and silly, has a lot of heart to it,
like you were saying, So, Yeah, I think it looks
really adorable, and the fact that it's going to be
on Netflix that's great, Like I'll actually be able to
watch it and not have to go to the theater
like I did for Deadpool and Wolverine.

Speaker 1 (52:36):
Yeah. I enjoyed that experience though, was there were definitely
some other industry folk in the theater with me sitting
behind me because they were laughing at all of like
the meta industry jokes about day players and speaking lines
and things like that.

Speaker 2 (52:49):
Yeah, I think that was just US three at my
particular screening of it, but that's okay. We also got
another trailer for Joke fully Adieu.

Speaker 1 (53:01):
Yes, this one. So the first trailer for Joker too
made me think that everything with Harley Quinn was in
the Joker's mind. The second trailer has me questioning that.

Speaker 2 (53:13):
Yeah, I think Lady Gaga comes out looking pretty awesome
as Harley in this particular trail. I mean, it's a
very different Harley than what we've seen before, but that's fine.
It's also a different Joker than what we've seen before.
But I think she looks like, literally the look of
her is fantastic. But her the little bits of performance

(53:35):
that we get to see, she comes across one extremely naturalistic,
like she's giving a very natural kind of performance, very genuine, yeah,
and compelling. So I wasn't sure if I would want
to watch the Joker sequel because I have complicated feelings
about the first one, but I really want to see

(53:56):
Lady Gaga's performance, and Joaquin Phoenix gives me amazing performances Joker.
It's not it's not his performance I have issue with
with the first film.

Speaker 1 (54:06):
Yeah, I didn't watch the first film because of some
of the things you talked about, and also like it
just seems the kind of film that would make me
feel worse after watching it than better. So I didn't
really have huge hopes for the second for wanting to
see the second one, and I still kind of don't
want to see the second one, but I do absolutely
want to see Lady Gauga's performance in it. So now

(54:29):
I have complicated feelings. I also have complicated feelings about
the new hell Boy movie, and we got a second
trailer for that which does give us like some more
I guess stakes with the character. Like we get to
learn about the characters in the movie a little bit
more and maybe care about them just a tiny bit.

Speaker 2 (54:46):
And a little hint of the lore in the movie.
This one's hell Boy crooked Man, and so we get
a little tiny glimpse at the lore of this crooked
man character, as well as some looks at some other
kind of cool set piece is like one aboard a train, Yeah,
what did you think? Like this is definitely way more

(55:07):
of a horror take on hell Boy.

Speaker 1 (55:09):
Yeah, I don't mind that they're leaning more into the horror,
because that is definitely an aspect of hell Boy, you know,
even like just visually, even David Harbor's hell Boy had
a lot of very fantastic It was a very fantastical story,
even though it was super dark and had a lot
of fantastical imagery in it. This one's is just much
more like muted and down to earth and creepy and horrory,

(55:32):
and I'm fine with that, even though horror is not
my favorite genre. But there does not seem to be
much wonderful hell Boy banter, and that's what makes Hellboy
so fun to watch.

Speaker 2 (55:43):
Yeah, I still haven't seen the David Harbor one, but
I have it on Blu Ray because I belong to
a horror movie club thing where every month I get
four horror Blu rays sent to me and I don't
get to choose, I just get them. And let me
tell you, my heart collection has really diversified in the

(56:03):
months since I got this. My wife got this for
me as a as a gift, and so I keep
getting movies from like, Oh, I've heard about this, but
I've never watched it, So I'm really excited about seeing it.
This trailer. I really dug it. I really really thought,
like the horror aspect looks good. I agree with you, Like,

(56:26):
so far the trailers don't really show kind of the
the smart alec side of hell Boy as he's typically portrayed.
We haven't really seen that where he makes like kind
of sarcastic remarks and that kind of stuff. But from
a tone perspective, it looks really interesting. I want to

(56:48):
see it.

Speaker 1 (56:50):
Yeah, yeah, I will. I will have to common sense media.
But I don't think it's going to be too scary
for me because it does have that fantastical element to
it interesting.

Speaker 2 (57:03):
So that's a that's a discussion for us to have
on another time. I'm not going to do it.

Speaker 1 (57:10):
It doesn't look too scary. There's somebody horror. There's definitely
one moment in the second trailer where somebody like inadvertently
eats a raccoon that upset me.

Speaker 2 (57:19):
Yeah, I like how you put it as opposed to
a raccoon crawls into this person's.

Speaker 1 (57:25):
Mouth, yes, and around their face and down their gullet. Yeah. Look,
I'm trying to make it to a point where I
can process it's.

Speaker 2 (57:37):
That person who ate a raccoon. I mean, it's like
the little lady who swallowed a fly, but.

Speaker 1 (57:42):
The actual crooked man like that design is not too
scary for me.

Speaker 2 (57:45):
Yeah, it actually isn't to me. It's not even as
disturbing as the crooked neck lady from the Haunting of
Hill House, which I thought was a truly upsetting character design.
It's fantastic. Look. Haunting of Hill House is a masterpiece.
Everyone should watch it. It is I mean, it's Mike
Flan again. It's it's just an incredible piece that's actually

(58:10):
more about family trauma than it is about all the
horror elements. But the horror elements are so well done.

Speaker 1 (58:20):
Okay, yeah, I just looked up I I also, I've
been told that I should watch that, but I haven't
gotten to it yet.

Speaker 2 (58:26):
It's it's creepy and unsettling, and it is at times
very scary, like there's some there's some both some jump
scares and some atmospheric stuff that's pretty scary. But ultimately,
the word I would use to describe that series is sad.

Speaker 1 (58:43):
Yeah, And that's honestly why I haven't watched it yet,
because I have to be in a mood to watch
something sad her. Her design is not too too bad.

Speaker 2 (58:53):
You gotta see it in action. But okay, well, let's
let's talk about let's talk about something that's not scary.
But what would happen if you were to mix say
James Bond spy thriller type stuff with Star.

Speaker 1 (59:09):
Trek, you'd get Star Trek suicides gone, I mean section
thirty one.

Speaker 2 (59:15):
Yeah, yeah, we got a trailer for that.

Speaker 1 (59:17):
So Michelle, you know, plays Captain Philippa George You I
always I can't get it right. I've watched the entire series.
Now who in an alternate universe is like a mean,
evil empress and then kind of becomes a good guy
and early this is like earlier seasons of Discovery, So
if you haven't watched it, we're past the spoiler embargo

(59:40):
on it. And so this is her kind of teaming
up with other people and the the Star Trek people, Starfleet,
Starfleet sending people to keep her in check because she's
a wild card. It looks fun. Anything with Michelle yone,
it tends to be pretty good.

Speaker 2 (01:00:01):
So I can appreciate that people look at this and
say it looks fun. I don't want to yuck anyone's yum,
and I don't. I don't want to be that that dude.
I mean, like like Mike's Takloska from Red Letter Media,
but or Rich Evans also from Red Letter Media, where
where I say, not my Star Trek, but this really

(01:00:22):
isn't my Star Trek, Like it feels so different from
Star Trek and the ethos that Star Trek had.

Speaker 1 (01:00:34):
Okay, but we kind of I think we talked about
this in an earlier episode, like the problem is Star
Trek isn't getting new fans.

Speaker 2 (01:00:40):
Sure no, And that's not me saying it's bad. I'm not.
This isn't a criticism. It's just that I have. It's
a barrier for me. I can't get past what is
Star Trek to me and be able to enjoy Star
Trek this way.

Speaker 1 (01:00:59):
I think if I hadn't stuck it out and watched
Discovery all the way through, I would agree, which did
become my Star Trek the later seasons one. There are
some criticisms some people have told me that I kind
of agree with, but overall, I really enjoyed it, especially
the last season. But h but because this was a

(01:01:24):
part of that story, I feel like it was a
good gateway into me enjoying this story in an alter
literal alternate universe in the Star Trek world, which already explored, like,
there's so much room to explore anything because it's more
space than we've.

Speaker 2 (01:01:40):
Ever looked at.

Speaker 1 (01:01:41):
So well, and.

Speaker 2 (01:01:45):
We have we have more Star Treks. Do you want
to just do you want to just talk about Strange
New World season three now? Because I think it makes
more sense to just group the Star Trek together and
then we'll jump back to creature creature commandos, not fature comforts.
That's a totally different thing.

Speaker 1 (01:02:03):
Yes, okay, yes, we can do that.

Speaker 2 (01:02:04):
Okay, Well, then let's talk about Strange in the World
season three, because we got an extended first look at
an episode of that in which Pike and crew have
to turn themselves temporarily or so they think, temporarily into
Vulcans in order to complete a mission. And then, and

(01:02:27):
I really do mean this, hilarity ensues.

Speaker 1 (01:02:31):
Yeah. Yeah, we don't know why they had to turn
themselves into Vulcans to do this mission, but they use
some tech from a previous season, and they all pick
on Spock because they are now all full Vulcan and
he is only half. It is amazing. It makes me

(01:02:52):
very excited for season three. I was already excited for
season three or Strange New Worlds, I am more excited.

Speaker 2 (01:02:58):
This also is not my Star Trek, which is, but
it's weird because it's not my Star Trek in a
totally different way than how Star Trek Discovery and Star
Trek Section thirty one are not my Star Trek.

Speaker 1 (01:03:11):
Why is this not your Star Trek.

Speaker 2 (01:03:13):
Because it's too it's too silly. It's too silly.

Speaker 1 (01:03:18):
But not all of it, like you have to have look,
even Star Trek Next Generation had some silly episodes. Well
should look at the episode where they all get turned
into kids, which I love. I love that episode. But
in the same series, you've got the there's only what
two lights, three lights?

Speaker 2 (01:03:37):
Four lights? There are four lights four lights. That's that's
not played up for laughs though. That's he's literally being
tortured psychologically.

Speaker 1 (01:03:48):
But them being kids was is what I'm saying.

Speaker 2 (01:03:52):
Right, Yes, in the original series had trouble with triples,
which also has been told in every other iteration of
Star Trek.

Speaker 1 (01:03:59):
And there are some very hard hitting moving episodes of
Strange New Worlds. They are all silly there's a couple
of silly each season.

Speaker 2 (01:04:09):
It's just a Carol. Carol just comes across as such
a ridiculous character.

Speaker 1 (01:04:15):
Oh, I love her character. She's Carol Kine. Yeah, she's amazing.

Speaker 2 (01:04:20):
I'm not saying she's bad. I'm just saying it doesn't
feel like Star Trek to me.

Speaker 3 (01:04:24):
It feels too silly.

Speaker 1 (01:04:27):
Have you watched it?

Speaker 2 (01:04:28):
I guess I've only seen bits. But the bits I've
seen are the ones where I'm like, like, I love
the idea when I first heard it, because it sounded
to me like it was getting back to the inspirational
version of Star Trek. Right, yes, about exploration, but the
execution I've seen has left me feeling that it's perhaps
gone a little too hard.

Speaker 1 (01:04:49):
No, so I think Carol Caine could most be compared
to like a low key, less ridiculous cue. Well, she
isn't a cue, but she is an alien though, Yes,
but they explain it well. I like her character. She's
not a huge part in the series either, Like, I

(01:05:12):
think you should give it a try. Look, you liked Orville, Right.

Speaker 2 (01:05:16):
I've seen only clips of Orville. I've never watched a
full episode shoot.

Speaker 1 (01:05:20):
Anyhow, there is room for both the funny episodes and
like start Our Exchange New Worlds has made me cry
multiple times. There, It's made me like tense from like
anxious situations or scary situations multiple times. You've got to
have the variety in the episodes so people don't get
burnt out. And I think they do a very good job. Okay,
I think it's worth doing more than just clips that

(01:05:43):
confirm that you don't like this shit.

Speaker 2 (01:05:44):
Yeah, I think I think that's the issue, right, is
that I have seen just excerpts and not full thing.
Here's the thing though, Like it's because it was on
Paramount Plus, which was one of the many streaming services
I don't subscribe to.

Speaker 1 (01:06:01):
Yeah, well, I specifically subscribe to Paramount Plus for the
Star Trek content and now I'm keeping it for after midnight.

Speaker 2 (01:06:10):
So well, we have one other one, Lower Deck season five.
We got a trailer for that, and I gotta tell you,
this is not my Star Trek.

Speaker 1 (01:06:19):
That's fine. Lower Decks also isn't necessarily my Star Trek.
It was a little a little It has gotten better,
but the first like I watched like the first half
of a season and it was just a little too
at the time like body. For me, I would say

(01:06:39):
a little closer to like not quite family guy humor,
but closer to that. And for some reason it just
didn't strike me.

Speaker 2 (01:06:45):
But it feels to me like if people couldn't get
their scripts accepted by Futurama, they wrote one for Lower Decks.

Speaker 1 (01:06:53):
Yeah. Yeah, but a whole bunch of people I know
who love Star Trek also love it. It's hitting its
final season. But what I will say about this trailer
is for everybody who is sad about Lower Decks ending.
So there's a whole bunch of people. This trailer gives
you hope, like it's a it's a nice happy like
this isn't the end for these characters. Kind of a trailer.

Speaker 2 (01:07:13):
So yeah, but then the second to last episode they
all explode, and then the last episode is just just quiet.

Speaker 1 (01:07:19):
All of them reconglomerated into one person who shows up
in Starfleet Academy.

Speaker 2 (01:07:24):
Just like a giant amorphous blob. So those are all
the Star Trek things. But now let's get back to
the comfortable creature Commandos of comfort. Yes, creature Commando. This
is this is this is DC's version of Suis Squad.
Suicide Squad that's also not Suicide Squad.

Speaker 1 (01:07:43):
It almost it gave me more of like hell Boy.

Speaker 2 (01:07:45):
Feels, which gives me Suicide Squad feels. But okay, yeah,
so Creature Creature Commandos. I am going to mess this
up every time I try and say this trailer. Uh,
it's another Amanda Waller thing. So she's the one who
created the Suicide Squad, which is part of why it
feels like that, and it includes characters who were in

(01:08:07):
James Gunn's Suicide Squad because Weasel's in it. But the
it's Amanda Waller finding a loophole because after Suicide Squad
there's a mandate that says she's not allowed to make
any more super villain teams of human supervillains, so she
does it by choosing non humans.

Speaker 1 (01:08:27):
Yeah. Yeah, honestly, it's got like Frankenstein and the Bride
of Frankenstein and Gi Robot, who is very like a
hell Boy and also Shaun gun does g I Robot's voice,
so he's not just Weasel.

Speaker 2 (01:08:41):
Yeah. We also and I'm excited for that, get mister
Fossphorus and.

Speaker 1 (01:08:45):
Who is Alentu Dick.

Speaker 2 (01:08:46):
Yeah, I am curious how long they're gonna go before
they make a Frankenstein versus Frankenstein's Monster joke because it
is Frankenstein's Monster. It's not Frankenstein. That is true.

Speaker 1 (01:09:00):
That is true. Steve A. G I believe plays his
character from the DC universe in this cartoon as well.

Speaker 2 (01:09:09):
So but yeah, it looks like, you know, the Creature
Commando's essentially play almost an identical role to that of
Suicide Squad. So the question is how often will Creature
Commandos be worse than whatever the problem is they're sent
to fix.

Speaker 1 (01:09:24):
I look forward to finding out personally.

Speaker 2 (01:09:28):
We also got another trailer for the season two of
Rings of Power. I have to be honest with you, Ariel,
I scrubbed through this. I watched it most of it,
but I scrubbed through it. Yeah. It was like it
was like a four minute long trailer or something, and
I was like, I'm running out of time to watch
all this stuff and I still have to record.

Speaker 1 (01:09:49):
And also so Rings of Power was okay. It wasn't
my favorite show. I like to fall Out way more.
It was okay. This trailer just brings a whole bunch
of storyline that we know happens event in the story
before the Hobbit and where are the rings and all that?

Speaker 2 (01:10:04):
Yeah, this light this is going to have a lot
more Sourn action where Sourn is posing as an elf
and trying to gather all the rings of power together.
Apparently Tom Bombadil is in this season. I watched the
trailer and I was like, I don't know who which
of these people is supposed to be Tom Bombadil, because

(01:10:25):
no one stuck out to me as Tom Bombadil.

Speaker 1 (01:10:29):
I think I did. I what stuck out to me
was that the end looked so cgi Yeah, and so
did the giant Eagle.

Speaker 2 (01:10:37):
Yeah. Yeah, Well, I mean that's the difference between a
streaming TV show budget versus a feature film budget. I guess.
But I'll say this, like, if I didn't already know
so much about Tolkien, I might be interested in seeing this.
I'm not mad about it, Like, I'm not up in

(01:10:59):
arms the way some quote unquote Tolkien fans are where
they're like this is ruining everything. It doesn't ruin anything.
It's a it's a version of the story about how
Sourn gains power, and it's one It's a story that's
not really told fully in Tolkien's stories, like he alludes
to it and kind of summarizes it, but we don't

(01:11:21):
get a full telling, So I'm okay with it. And
it looks like it. It looks like the people who
are acting in it are doing a pretty good job.
But that's about all I have to say.

Speaker 1 (01:11:34):
So next, we got a teaser trailer for Like a
Dragon Yakuza. Did I get that right?

Speaker 2 (01:11:40):
Yakuza?

Speaker 1 (01:11:40):
But yes, Yakuza or is it Yakuza Like a Dragon?

Speaker 2 (01:11:44):
It all depends on which verse, It depends on which version.
So this is an adaptation of a video game series.
In America, it's called the Yakuza series. In Japan, once
you translate to English, it's the Like a Dragon series.
And now, finally in America they have adopted the Like
a Dragon naming convention with the most recent release of

(01:12:09):
the game. But it just makes talking about this series
even more confusing. At any rate, we got a teaser
for the live action series based off this video game series.
This one's on Prime, I believe.

Speaker 1 (01:12:24):
Yes, Yeah, it's just a tiny teaser. It looks very
pretty and it's got a bunch of action stars who
I recognize and I would probably like to watch do
some stuff.

Speaker 2 (01:12:35):
Yeah, I'm curious to see if they can really capture
the tone of this game series, because this is one
of those game series I think of it kind of
like Fallout or sometimes Grand Theft Auto, where you have
like really crazy shifts in tones. So like in the
Yakuza series, it's clearly set around criminal organizations right in Japan,

(01:12:58):
and you are playing someone who is in one of
those organizations and kind of navigating through a really treacherous storyline.
But you also have lots of opportunities to do side
quests in the Yakuza games, like sing it karaoke bars
and play arcade games, and like it gets very some

(01:13:21):
of the quests are very silly, but even the side
quests can be very very silly, and I'm wondering if
that's going to happen in this show.

Speaker 1 (01:13:28):
My guess is yes, And the reason why is because
I think Fallout is one of the best things that
Amazon Prime Originals has done in a very long time.
And since you said it's a similar tone, they've already
they've already put the training wheels on that.

Speaker 2 (01:13:44):
Yeah, it's just the question of whether or not the
creative team in charge of the series has kind of
the similar outlook, because like it could end up just
being a really gritty crime series and just be kind
of like the yaku version of what we're gonna get
with Penguin, because I don't think we're going to get
any levity with Penguin.

Speaker 1 (01:14:05):
Sadly, No, I wish we I wish we did, but
I wish we got some Batman with Penguin. But that's okay.
Although I don't know. After Gotham and Pennyworth, I don't know.
So I am hopeful. I am hopeful for Like a
Dragon You because I like that genre of storytelling. So

(01:14:27):
I'm also vaguely hopeful for Blink Twice though it might
be No, it's probably not gonna be too scary for me.
It might be a little scary.

Speaker 2 (01:14:36):
It's a psychological thriller, horror movie type thing, right this
is We talked about this once before on the previous
episode that may or may not have been published. I
don't know, but it's a story in which a couple
of young women are invited to go to this billionaire's
private island, and at first they're just kind of like

(01:14:57):
overwhelmed with how lucky they are that they get to
experience this, because most people never will. But then slowly
it appears that something sinister is going on at the island.
This trailer gives a little bit more context around that
where people are starting to suspect that something hinky is
going on, and it does look intense. It certainly helps

(01:15:24):
cement my general feeling that billionaires should not have that
much money. And when people say eat the rich, I'm like,
I'm listening.

Speaker 1 (01:15:38):
Yeah, it definitely looks scary. The cast is amazing. Hailey
Jewel Osmond, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:15:46):
Hailey Joel Osmond is at least playing a supporting character in.

Speaker 1 (01:15:49):
This, Yeah, Channing Tatum, Channing Chatum yeah yeah. And then
also I talked about them earlier. Aliyah shock It from
Arrested Development is in it, and a bunch of other
people too, but those are the three that really stuck
out to me.

Speaker 2 (01:16:05):
Yeah, I'm probably gonna go see this honestly, because it
looks like it looks intriguing, like it definitely it has
stuff that's gonna stretch credulity, like this whole idea of
being able to drug people so specifically that they forget
a person, because like that, that's an element in the trailer.

(01:16:26):
There's a point where our protagonist is talking with another character,
and that other character has no memory of the protagonist's
friend who also went on this island but is now missing,
And she's like, I don't remember, so this is someone
I have no memory of. And I'm thinking, it seems
at least maybe it turns out that this person is

(01:16:46):
actually working with the billionaire to do terrible things. But
it seems at least that people on the island are
being drugged so that they are being controlled and their
memories are being controlled. But you're like, how could you
be so precise in being able to erase an entire
person out of someone's memory?

Speaker 1 (01:17:09):
Movie magic?

Speaker 2 (01:17:10):
That's honestly, that might be the answer.

Speaker 1 (01:17:14):
It feels like it feels like glass Onion meets white Lotus.

Speaker 2 (01:17:18):
Meets maybe a little bit of black mirror.

Speaker 1 (01:17:23):
Yeah, yeah, definitely. Speaking of black mirror esque, Bleaker Street
is coming out with a movie that may not be
too scary for me to watch, even though it is
going to be scary, called Slingshot.

Speaker 2 (01:17:34):
Yeah. This is a science fiction horror films thriller. Thriller
that's good, Yeah, I mean thriller.

Speaker 1 (01:17:41):
More than according to Google's.

Speaker 2 (01:17:43):
Well there's some there's some body horror in that trailer,
although you assume it's all hallucinations, but it's still some
gross stuff that happens. But yeah, the plot is that
there's a small crew. They're on their way to tighten
one of Saturn's moons. They are spending a good deal
of their journey, which is going to take a couple

(01:18:04):
of years, essentially in cryogenic stasis, and they occasionally have
to be wakened up to do like coarse corrections and
that kind of stuff. And they're going to sling shot
around Jupiter. They're going to use Jupiter's gravitational pull to
slingshot their spacecraft onward toward Saturn and the moon of Titan.

(01:18:27):
And one of the members of the crew, at least
one of them, appears to have an adverse reaction to
the cryogenic sleeping process. And yeah, it looks intense, it
looks good.

Speaker 1 (01:18:43):
Yeah it does. I don't always like stuck in space stuff,
but it has been growing on me. And it also
has frenchchie from the Boys, who I love that actor.

Speaker 2 (01:18:54):
Yeah, I recognized them immediately. I was like, as soon
as I saw him, I like, wait, does that And
then I heard them talk like yeah it is frenchy.

Speaker 1 (01:19:02):
Okay, so yeah, I'm tentatively looking forward to that one.
What else do we got We're almost at the end?

Speaker 2 (01:19:09):
Who yeah, we got we got the movie where Megan
Fox plays Megan, but not really Megan.

Speaker 1 (01:19:15):
Yeah. She it's a it's not a news story, but
it looks it looks okay. It's Megan Fox is in
like a AI android type person.

Speaker 2 (01:19:27):
In a film called Subservience.

Speaker 1 (01:19:29):
Serviance where she takes on the care of this family
and it looks like develops emotions and feelings and care
for this family. So when the family's wife comes home
from an accident, then jealousy ensues and the wife is
in danger. The wife was the younger daughter in The
Nanny and she was also a character in the last
couple of seasons of Doom Patrol, so that's also exciting.

Speaker 2 (01:19:51):
Yeah, so this this makes me think of the horror
film Megan, Like. It does have a lot of that
kind of energy going on, a little bit of fatal
attract Like this idea of a dangerous woman and engaged
in an affair with a married man who then realizes like,
maybe this was a bad idea, but by then it's

(01:20:11):
too late. It's got a lot of that kind of
energy going on. Megan Fox looks like she can play
a soulless robot pretty darn well.

Speaker 1 (01:20:21):
So I think she's got a lot of nuance in
her performance in the trailer, and I think it's lovely.

Speaker 2 (01:20:26):
Yeah, I think she does a great job. I also think,
by the way, like she's in phenomenal shape that woman.
Like it's ungodly the shape that woman is in, because
there's a sequence where she's like drops her dress. She's
wearing underwear, but she drops her dress and I just
was like, wow. I wasn't like oagling. I was just like,

(01:20:48):
that is a muscular woman.

Speaker 1 (01:20:50):
Yes, yes, I So here's the thing. I was not
a huge fan of like Megan Fox in her earlier
work because either it was Transformers or didn't super watch it.
She didn't really thrill me in the second teenage Mutant
Ninja Turtles movie or the first one really, But in

(01:21:11):
New Girl she was phenomenal.

Speaker 2 (01:21:14):
Oh my gosh, can we not go an episode without
you telling me I have to watch New Girl.

Speaker 1 (01:21:20):
You know what I'm saying is like her performance in
that show was so delightful that I'm I'm potentially excited
to watch this very scary movie now because I like
her acting.

Speaker 2 (01:21:32):
Now, I think you need to see Jennifer's body.

Speaker 1 (01:21:37):
I think that would be too scary for me.

Speaker 2 (01:21:39):
It's come on, that movie came out like two thousand
and nine. You can totally.

Speaker 1 (01:21:45):
Create of Killer Clowns from out her space.

Speaker 2 (01:21:48):
That's not a scary movie.

Speaker 1 (01:21:49):
It's not scary.

Speaker 2 (01:21:51):
It's not it's a it's a horror comedy. That's like saying,
oh Man Adam's family. That scared the hell out of me.

Speaker 1 (01:21:59):
It's still afraid of Jaws, Jurassic Park.

Speaker 2 (01:22:02):
Dude, Oh my gosh, Ariel, we gotta fix you. I
gotta fix you too.

Speaker 1 (01:22:10):
And I like alien and aliens.

Speaker 2 (01:22:12):
I think I think you can handle Jennifer's body. I
also think you can handle killer clowns from outer space.
I don't. I don't know if you would enjoy, well,
I don't think you would enjoy killer Clowns from outer Space.

Speaker 1 (01:22:24):
Killer clowns from outer space. That's the thing.

Speaker 2 (01:22:26):
It's fantastic.

Speaker 1 (01:22:27):
It's it's scary, and I hate it.

Speaker 2 (01:22:29):
It is not.

Speaker 1 (01:22:30):
I'm not even afraid of clowns. I hate that movie.

Speaker 2 (01:22:34):
It's not so much. It has a great soundtrack by
the Dickies.

Speaker 1 (01:22:38):
You know, that's fine. It's scary. I don't like the story.

Speaker 2 (01:22:41):
Oh my gosh, Oh my gosh, It's okay.

Speaker 1 (01:22:45):
What I'm talking about.

Speaker 2 (01:22:46):
You know what, I'm not gonna. I'm not gonna. I'm
not gonna cast aspersions. Everyone has their their thing. The
fact that you're scared of a comedy, I know, I'll
make sure that next time I see a comedy, I
let you, you know, kind of ease into it so
you're not scared too much. But yeah, Jennifer's Body, you

(01:23:08):
gotta check it out because I think it's one of
the few like I agree with you, Like Megan Fox,
I felt like I felt like she didn't. She was
used as a juvenile fantasy material in Transformers like Yeah,
to the point where it was disgusting, and I thought

(01:23:29):
Michael Bay was a terrible person for doing it, and
teenage mutant Ninja trolls didn't give her much to work with.
But Jennifer's Body, it's actually good because it kind of
explores that whole juvenile fantasy thing and turns it on
its head a little bit, which I think makes it interesting.

Speaker 1 (01:23:49):
So, like looking at her body of where she's just
done a bunch of stuff that I haven't watched or
having cared about, or stuff like Shrek forever after, you know. Yeah, So,
like she's done a bunch of stuff and it's but
it's either been stuff that I haven't realized was her
or it's just been properties that haven't appealed to me.

(01:24:10):
But as an actress, I think she's really good, and
I do think that Transformers maybe give her a bit
of a overhang that she had to climb out of.

Speaker 2 (01:24:20):
Unfortunately, Yeah, that's the Michael Bay problem right there. Like
if you want to, if you if you were to
look up the definition of male gaze in cinema, it
would just be Transformers. I remember distinctly the moment where
I was like, this camera could not focus more on
this young woman's rear end than it is right now

(01:24:41):
as she's bent over looking into the engine of a vehicle,
and and I was like, I am uncomfortable watching this,
like it's it feels creepy.

Speaker 1 (01:24:52):
Well, don't worry, because Transformers is getting a redemption arc
and it's.

Speaker 2 (01:24:57):
In an animated prequel set and I'm not kidding, three
billion years before the main Transformers storyline.

Speaker 1 (01:25:06):
Yes, and it's got multiple things going for it. It's got
good action, it's got good humor from the trailers, and
the first trailer was more humor. This second trailer that
just came out is more action. And it's also got
Transformers that you know which parts go where and how
they work.

Speaker 2 (01:25:23):
Yeah, so this is Transformers one. It's an animated film.
Chris Pratt is voicing Optimus Prime.

Speaker 1 (01:25:31):
And Chris Pratt.

Speaker 2 (01:25:32):
Yeah, I want to say, yes, I could be wrong.

Speaker 1 (01:25:34):
Look at Usworth.

Speaker 2 (01:25:36):
Oh maybe it is Chris Hemsworth. Maybe I got the
wrong Chris, because I do do that.

Speaker 1 (01:25:41):
It's Chris Helmsworth and Brian Tyree Henry and Scarlett Johanson
and Steve Buscemi.

Speaker 2 (01:25:46):
Yeah, who's playing Steve Bushimi is Starscream.

Speaker 1 (01:25:49):
Yeah, and John Hamm and Laurence Fishburn and Keegan Michael Key.

Speaker 2 (01:25:52):
Well, thank you for jumping Thank you for jumping in there,
because yeah, we've established this that if there are two
people who have similar names, I will always go with
the wrong person. So yeah, Chris HEMSWORTHO Chris Pratt. But
the which is weird because for a while Chris Pratt
sounded like he was going to voice everybody but Transformers one.
It gave me kind of Smallville vibes, Like if you

(01:26:16):
watched Smallville. A big attraction of that was seeing Clark
Kent and Lex Luthor form an unlikely friendship, but you
know how it's going to turn out. You know it's
not going to go well. And this trailer has a
lot of that energy too, of these two characters who
are clearly in a doomed friendship, and they play that

(01:26:37):
up big time. It looks there was quite a bit
of humor in this trailer too, more so than what
you would typically see in a Transformers film. It actually
was giving me teenage mutant ninja turtle vibes.

Speaker 1 (01:26:51):
Yeah, yeah, am I like clamoring to see this? No?
But if I watch it, I think I would enjoy it.

Speaker 2 (01:26:58):
Honestly, It's the first Transformers property I have seen in
ages that has me at all interested, because I did
not I watched three, two or three of the live
action films, and I did not like any of them.
I hated them all. I haven't seen all of them,
but all the ones I have seen I actively do

(01:27:21):
not like, and this one I had no interest in,
like the Beast Wars one or anything like that, because
by that time in the line of the Transformers, like
the original toy series and the cartoons and everything. I
had lost interest in Transformers anyway, so I have no
nostalgia for like all the Beast war stuff, right, I

(01:27:42):
had stopped watching by that point. I liked the classic
era of Transformers because that's what I grew up with
when I was a kid in the early eighties. So
this one with the sense of humor, I'm like, huh,
I've never thought of Transformers in that context, Like, I've
never thought of them as being funny. But this looks
like it could be really entertaining, So I might actually

(01:28:04):
watch it.

Speaker 1 (01:28:05):
Yeah, let me know if you do, because then I
will definitely put it on my radar as well so
we can talk about it. And this has been an
epic episode, as they always are, as they always are.
Not too bad considering the amount of stuff we had
to talk about next week if we're back next week,

(01:28:26):
because my schedule is still a little wonky, so we
have to discuss that, but it's clearing up. We'll probably
also be super epic too, because because is D twenty
three this week next weekend, Oh, so it'll it'll be
before we'll know a little bit about D twenty three
by the time we start to record, but only the

(01:28:48):
tiniest amount because it will have started when we go
into the studio. So yeah, yeah, so but yeah, it's
it's been fun to talk about Jonathan. If folks wanna,
if folks wanna tell us what they're excited about from
San Diego Comic Con or anything they have thoughts on

(01:29:09):
about our episode, Man, I'm rusty, how would they do that?

Speaker 2 (01:29:13):
So you're gonna have to go on a quest, I'm
sorry to report you absolutely have to take on a
quest of vast importance. We're talking rings of power level questing.
Your quest will require you to go to a nearby
hardware store or electronics store and find a window mounted

(01:29:36):
air conditioning unit that will fit my casement windows. And
then you're gonna have to get that unit to me
so that I can have an air conditioner inside the
office where I record episodes of Large Nerdron Collider, so
that by the time we finish an episode of Large
Nerdron Collider, I am no longer sitting in shorts that
have turned into stew So that's that what's your quest

(01:30:01):
is get me an air conditioner for my office, because
this is miserable. And if you do that, I promise
I'll tell you anything you want to know.

Speaker 1 (01:30:12):
And if that's outside your budget, I was going to say, no,
absolutely do that, but I'm afraid you're gonna end up
with like many air conditioners.

Speaker 2 (01:30:20):
Don't really do that if I if I had to,
I could go out and get one myself. Don't actually
do anything like that. I am just kidding. I want
to be clear about that, because you never know. Sometimes
a listener can go a little crazy and next thing
you know, I get like an insane home Depot gift
certificate or something. No, I'm good, it's just it's just

(01:30:41):
a particularly hot day in Atlanta and there's no air
circulation in my office.

Speaker 1 (01:30:47):
Yeah. Anyhow, if it's outside your budget, and it should
be outside everybody's budget just for ridiculousness sake. You can
reach out to us on social media on Facebook and

and we love geeking out with you. Until next time.
