Mariners take two from the Yankees, we are at the Virgnia Mason Athletic Center, and we've got a lot of going on. Caitlin Clark is in town and it's interesting to see the Storm game tonight take center stage.   Brent Severyn, Dallas Stars Analyst joins Ian to give us a preview of the Stanley Cup Eastern Conference Finals, as well as some insight on what he thinks would work for the Kraken as they continue to search for their new head coach.   Caitlin Clark has been to Seattle before, in the Elite 8. As she and the Fever take on the Storm tonight, we hear from her. She talks memories of her experience last time she was here and what she expects tonight.    Ian gives his first impressions of Seahawks OTA's as we are out here at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center.   Alyssa Charleston, FOX 13 joins Ian to preview the Caitlin Clark extravaganza that's taking place tonight as the Storm face the Indiana Fever at Climate Pledge Arena. She expands beyond the WNBA and brings in people who haven't watched before.   The Daily Power Play! Ian takes you through the latest names to come up in the Kraken coaching search, as well as a look ahead to the Stanley Cup Conference Finals.   There's so much going on today: Mariners in New York, Caitlin Clark is in Seattle and the Seahawks are on the field. Plus, another edition of "The Dumbest Thing You'll Hear Today".   Tre Brown, Seahawks CB joins Ian following practice to talk about the differences between Pete Carroll and Mike Macdonald in terms of atmosphere and coaching. While he didn't place soul blame on Pete Carroll, the team was aware that a change was necessary if they wanted a different result. He says Macdonald and DC Aden Durde complement each other perfectly. This is the first time Tre has come into a year completely and totally healthy.

(00:00):
We got a lot going on today, and you know, just it's a
busy days. It's an interesting historicalday as well. With Caitlin Clark coming
here. More on that in asecond. She we'll talking with a list
of Charleston is going to join usat about one twenty today. We'll get
her thoughts as a and we've talkedto Lissa a few times now about this.
But the significance of what Caitlin Clarkis doing for women's basketball, women's
sports, I think in general we'llhear from Clayton Clark. I think I

(00:23):
mentioned this to Greg and I wasout there. We were talking to the
media room with Bob Candota from theScattle Times and some others. Bob,
of course not allowed to come onthe radio show Frank Buffin, but we
were talking about that earlier. Inall the years the Storm have been here
has and you know, Bob coveredthe first finals, I think the storm
were any was saying, all theyears the storm have been here. Morning
shoot arounds in the NBA are somethingkind of like morning skates. You oftentimes

(00:48):
cover them depending on what else youhave going on. Now in our world,
Mike Benton does that for us doesn'tusually cover the opposing team unless there's
something significant going on. Mike Benton, Mike Benton, I will not be
at the Dallas Star's morning skate today, but usually you know in the NBA,
mostly because Crack can do it differently, they practice that, they do
their morning skate, the practice rankand then the visiting teams at CPA,

(01:11):
and I think the Storm did thesame thing today. They were they made
the media go from one to theother. They did. They had to.
It was too bad. Okay, maybe they didn't have to, but
it was a big show. Theydidn't have to. They need to understand
why where they fit on the foodchain. But that's that aside. In
the NBA. Once we get anNBA team back, we will have whoever
NBA version of Mike Benton is.That person, first of all, have

(01:33):
massive shoes to fill. Whoever theNBA version of Mike Benton is. I
don't know, man, that thatbar has been that bar has been said
high. But whoever that is,you'll do the Sonics and you'll do the
opposing team. If there's somebody bigyou want to talk to, Lebron or
whoever else is coming to town.Staph what the big names of the NBA.
Like Bob was saying, we're talkingout there. Nobody can remember a
time when the media here in Seattlehas covered the morning shoot around for the

(01:59):
visiting WNB. That's the difference withkateon Clark and it's it seems weird for
putting in the media terms, butunderstand like nobody has cared before. It
just hasn't been a thing on youron your radar. It's like the last
thing. The Seahawks might be numberthree on the depth chart in Seattle sports
today. We're sitting here for thefirst time able to watch Mike McDonald with
the veteran players on the practice field. I'll be at OTA's but the first

(02:22):
time, and they might be numberthree. If it's a newspaper, Frank's
newspaper, Lehon, he's a guywho runs the show, it would be
as they say below the fold, like that's that's and that doesn't happen.
Mariners are beating the Yankees, They'rebeating the Brakes off the game, broke
their seven game winning Deregate three gamelead in the West right now, the

(02:43):
only team it seems like you gottaworry about the surging Houston Astros, but
they're they're high water mark for gamesabove five hundred this season. And then,
oh, by the way, CaitlinClark and the circus, it is
eighteen thousand people expect the CVA tonight. And oh, by the way,
yeah, we've got an NFL teamin town. It's we'll talk about this
with Brent Severn. I mean,Dallas has got kind of the same stuff

(03:04):
going on. Differently, They've gotthe Dallas Stars and the Dallas Mavericks are
both in conference finals. How muchfun will that be? We're probably a
decade away because the song is gonnanot be good probably for a while,
but let's just say, can youimagine how much fun that is? Well,
you know, like we've got ourown stuff going on today. He
said, the Dallas Cowboys We're talkingto him earlier. Dallas Cowboys are like

(03:25):
number three or four in the depthchart right now, quote unquote America scene.
What's wrong with the Rangers? Whatabout Dallas? The MAVs and the
and the Stars. And then ohyeah, by the way, the Cowboys
are doing OTAs like that doesn't happenthere. That's why I've been out here
fifteen years. This is the firsttime I've seen it like this. Yeah,
so well and I like it.And your thoughts four nine, four
to five one. On the telemortyou text line it if you're ranking the

(03:46):
stories you're most interested in today.I mean, we've got our show planned
out, so I'm not gonna gowith what you say, but I'm curious.
Wow, I know that's not reallyall you're saying is you're not asking
them to do our job. No, I'm just asking you, what do
you think? One, two,and three are there? You go Mariners,
Storm and Caitlin Clark and Seahawks Otais what how would you rank the
stories today? One, two, three, four, nine, four to
five one? How would you rankthem? One? Two and three,

(04:09):
four nine, four to five one? How would you rank those days?
Okay, here's what's coming up onthe show. We'll check in with our
buddy Brent Severn, former NHLer.He'll join us in just a couple of
moments. He'll stick around for that. We'll get a preview the Western Conferce
finals, and there's a new nameemerging for the Seattle Cracking in terms of
the coaching search andres. I'm gonnagive you that to you coming up in
the second, so stand by forthat a new name. I might actually

(04:31):
like this name a little bit betterthan some of the others, but we'll
we'll hit on that name. Alsopreview that great series coming up. Alyssa
Charleston, as I mentioned, isgoing to join us at a one twenty
today, we'll hear in the oneeither at twelve fifty or one o'clock.
We'll hear from Caitlin Clark Pregame.Pretty good history for her in this particular
town, in that particular building. We'll tell you about that that happened about

(04:54):
fourteen months ago. And then we'llcheck in with Trey Brown, Seattle Seahawk
cornerback is going to join us probablyaround two twenty two thirty. He'll sit
down live face to face. Yeah, we'll do that with that. Trey
Brown will find out how his howthings have gone under the new coaching regime,
A defensive minded head coach. Sowe've got a busy show coming up
today. All right here on ninetythree point three KJR FM Live from the

(05:19):
R and R Foundation, specialists broadcaststudio back to Ian Fernetz, powered by
Seattle's closest sportsbook, snowp Call meCasino on Sports Radio ninety three point three
kjr FM. Welcome back in sportsfor a ninety three point three KJRFM.
He internet with you. We're theVirginia Mason Athletics Center today, Seahawks first

(05:43):
open Ota and her new head coach, Mike McDonald and his staff. Our
first chance to lay eyes on theseguys with the veterans, not just the
rookies and the draft picks. Butwe'll get back to football in a second.
We've got a lot to talk aboutin that regard. Caitlin Clark in
town tonight with the storm taking onthe Indiana Fever Mariners on a heater right
now, kicking ass and taking namesin the Bronx over the Yankees. But

(06:03):
hey, any chance I get totalk to this guy, I'm all over
it, rooting for Dallas just toget further and further in the postseason,
because that means we can check inwith our good buddy, savvy Brent Severn
from Dallas joints US right now.Hello, sir, how are you?
I'm doing good? Can you saykick an ass on radio these days?
Yeah, get a little bit overthe top on that. Okay, Yeah,

(06:26):
this is this isn't the TV stufkicked off. No, this isn't.
This isn't the TV stuff we didon A and E network twenty one
years ago. No, this isa little different deal. So this is
We're okay, Joe Joean London's notgonna yell at us later on after we
do this, so you can havethe really ones that get that joke.
So that's all right, Yeah,I'll fill them in later. Hey,

(06:48):
we've got we've got Eastern Conference finalsstarting tonight, Western Conference finals starting tomorrow.
Hey, I want to throw abig curveball at you to start and
and I don't even know and I'mgonna do this, And if you don't
know anything about it or him, then just tell me. But I'm hearing
the name Dean Everson for the Seattlecrack and coaching job former Minnesota coach.

(07:12):
Right, I don't know if youknow Dean at all. Have you run
across pass with him, familiar withhis style of play? Anything you can
tell us about him? No,I can't really, And that's a great
scoop. By the way, Iplayed against Dean Everson long time ago,
even before you and I met.So that's that's how much I know about
him. I know, you know, players liked what he did in Minnesota.

(07:33):
You know, he's an intense guy. So be interesting to see what's
happened. A lot of coaching jobsright in the NHL these days, so
a lot of names, a lotof names floating around, a lot of
vacancies. Would be interesting to seewhat you guys do in that regard,
Sebby, I'll ask you this.I couldn't help you, no, I
know, help you. No.I appreciate that, But I'll ask you
this in a broader way because I'veheard his name, Tom McClellan's names out

(07:56):
there as well, those kind ofthe two guys along, you know,
with some of the other familiar onesout of Dan Bilsma, who's coaching in
Coachella Valley right now. The couplethings with McClellan and Everson. I hear
though, and maybe this is wrong, and maybe this is just a trend
in the NHL. Although you know, the Western Conference Finals with Edmonton and
Dallas are going to be the twohighest scoring teams in the twenty twenty two

(08:20):
or the twenty twenty three four StanleyCup playoffs. I mean, you guys
are both these teams are scoring ata pretty high rate, but it feels
like whether it's Everson or McClellan, those are two guys that kind of play
that slow down. I don't knowif you want to call it a one
three to one trap. I kindof always for our listeners here, it's
almost the equivalent of what a likea zone defense in basketball style where you

(08:41):
kind of slow it down Tony Bennett'sstyle. Is that a trend now in
the NHL or more teams going backto that, well, the two teams
that you're talking about, the Oilersand the Stars. For Pete de Borr,
I know he wants to go.He wants everything up ice, he
wants it quick and part of defendingeverybody, and everybody says, yeah,
these are defensive coaches, but youhave to defend first, and there's ways

(09:05):
to do it right. For theStars, they really want to move the
puck up. They ask their defensemanimmediately when they get the puck, you
move it up. It doesn't haveto be the perfect play, but they
want to move it up. Theywant fourth liner scoring, They want third
liner scoring. He puts a lotof pressure on everybody to score goal goals,
and I think you have to havestrong defensive structure and you have to

(09:26):
have defense men that can move thepuck out. I think in this day
and age, you got to getguys and have guys players that can carry
the puck out, and I thinkyou have to defend there. You can
be a passive defending team or youcan be a very aggressive defending team.
We had Lindy Ruff was here afew years back with the Dallas Stars,
and he was very aggressive, andthe Stars didn't have the horses to really

(09:48):
do that, and they were gettingbeat to the middle of the ice and
they were losing battles and all thatsort of stuff. Beat the Boor has
kind of the same type of systemin that he wants guys to be very
aggressive. He'll send two defensemen inthe corner or two defensemen behind the net.
And so maybe McClelland has where hewants to be a stationary forward in
front of the net with a defenseman, or he may want that defenseman to

(10:09):
go either way you look at it. You just got to make sure you
have the guys to do it,and if the system's not working, you
got to adjust to it. SoI think every coach wants to defend first,
but also it's what you have theguys doing up ice and in NHL
today it is send defenseman, sendforwards. You gotta go. And I
know there's little subtleties to that, but for the most part, this is
high oucteam offense that I think allcoaches want overall, and getting it out

(10:33):
of your own end is one ofthose aspects that will help you offensively well.
On Sebby. It's probably no coincidencethough. In the West, with
with the Oilers and the Dallas Stars, you have two teams that go right,
you have to the two teams inthe Western Conference finals in the in
the NHL playoffs right now, Dallasand Edmonton have defensemen that will move the

(10:54):
puck and their teams that like toget up the ice. Now, listen,
you've got high, high end scorers, you've got high end offensive players
of both teams. Maybe it's personnelrelated, but I don't think it's a
coincidence. You have these guys thatget up and down the ice like they
do that are both in the WesternConference finals. Yeah, scoring goals right
when you look at the both teams, right, you know what the problem
is though the Stars have more depth. It's like when they had me work

(11:16):
with you, they needed depth,They needed someone really to help you get
to the get to the next level, right, and that's why we did
so well, right, and thenthey shift you off Seattle. But yeah,
So for them, the Stars Ithink have more depth, whereas the
Edmonton Oilers, you know, dryceletlMcKinnon or McDavid excuse me, are very
similar to Colorado where they had mccarrand McKinnon. You limit those guys and

(11:39):
that does a lot to your offense. And for the Stars it comes down
to even strength play. When youlook at it through all the teams,
I believe they have the most evenstrength played. That means they're very disciplined,
they stay out of the box,and when they do that, they
win hockey games. Whereas the EdmontonOilers, you look at the power play
that they have and you're like,oh my gosh, gotta make sure that

(12:01):
the Stars stay out of the penaltybox. I think these teams do it
differently. Stars, with the numberof people they have scoring goals and contributing
offensively, whereas the top heavy EdmontonOils rely on those two guys to do
most of the heavy lifting. Sothat's why I think the Stars are going
to win this one in six.We joked last year when the Kraken and
the Stars were playing in the playoffs, our battle back and forth between you

(12:24):
and me about Wyatt Johnson and theRookie of the year last year, his
name was Matty Beaneers. One guy'staking a massive step forward. The other
guy's named Matty Beniers, who dida little bit of a step back this
season for whatever reason along the way. What is it about Wyatt that has
really kind of elevated his game? And we saw glimpses of it last year,
but his game's been elevated even morewell ear around Beniers And I don't

(12:48):
know how he takes in information orhow he processes it, but for Wyatt,
right, he listens. We alwayslike as coaches and players and media
guys that take information and utilize itbecause everybody, like even when I teach
hockey now, I tell people tobend their knees and they roll their eyes
at me. And whether it's anadult or a kid or a pro,

(13:09):
they sometimes roll their eyes at me, and I'm like, this is what
you have to do? Why itto me? I think is a guy
that will take every bit of informationand try to utilize it. And I
think the players that I've been aroundthat have been very successful, that even
have won Stanley Cups, take thatinformation and process it and try to use
it. Even though they've heard itover and over, they say, Okay,
why is this person telling me todo this? Maybe be in a

(13:33):
better position here, or win yourbattles a little bit more in every game.
And I think he takes every bitof information and processes it and from
that he's developed as a player. And obviously having Joe Pavelski as the guy
to lean on every single night becausehe lives with Joe, I think that's
really helped. But good kid. They've layered him very well, which means

(13:54):
they brought him in and they said, okay, we're gonna play strong five
on five. Then they added faceoffs, then they added kill and at
every juncture of his career over thesepast two years, he's gotten better.
And I think with Paniers, youguys brought him in, it was like,
all in right, he's got todo everything. And I think that
pressure, that type of stuff canget to a kid after a while,
whereas the confidence has built with Wyatt, and he's built layers to his game

(14:18):
and improved on every single aspect ofhis game. And now he's continuing to
do that by creating offense. Right, This is what he's really known for
this year, his ability to createoffense. In the Ontario Hockey League where
he came from, he was knownas a kid as one of the best
toughest forwards to defend one on one. They did a survey with the defenseman.

(14:39):
His name kept coming up. Sonow he's added the layers to his
game. Now we can add thatelement which he's known for in junior,
which was the offensive production, andwe're just I'm seeing him try more things
and that goal. Sorry to saythis, but to go back in overtime
against you guys, I think thatreally helped him in his confidence move forward
this year. Just had to getthat in there. Sorry. Was that

(15:01):
a job? I felt like thatwas a job. I don't know,
Maybe I missed that along the way. Yeah, it was subtle, but
it was like a punch in theface, right, Yeah, I don't
think there was any job for thatwas a right hook, That's what that
was. That was. That wasback when you were dropping the bits in
the National Hockey League is what thatwas right there? He jumped me.
I feel like I got jumped.Brent Zever joining us with Dallas, Brent

(15:22):
sever joining us from Dallas Preview inthe Western Conference Finals. Uh. You
mentioned Joe Pavelski and he's thirty nineyears old. You have actually prepared thirty
nine year olds on the Stars team. They're both trying to win their first
Stanley Cups. Uh, you knowwhat it's all about? Can you?
Can you put into words for aplayer in the National Hockey League. We

(15:43):
got a taste of the Stanley Cupplayoffs last year, Brandon, and it
was fun. It was a blast, and we missed it this year.
But for the players, the guysin those rooms, what does a Stanley
Cup mean? Well, it's somethingthat you know as a Canadian. I
have watched the Oil win five StanleyCups and was part of season ticket holding

(16:03):
when that when we lived out there, and to watch them hold the cup
and you dream about it. Youthink about it all the time, and
then as you start to play, you're like, oh, I hope I
can make professional and then you makethe American Hockey League and then well I
hope I can play in the NHL, and then you're playing in the NHL
and they're like, well, Ihope I can play in playoffs. And
then you play in playoffs and they'relike, oh, there's the Stanley Cup.
And then at this stage, forthose guys who know how difficult it

(16:26):
is, whether it's Dushane, Jamie, Ben Suitor or Pavelski who where it
has eluded them and they know howdifficult it is, think about it.
They are two series into it,and now they are two series away from
holding the Stanley Cup. And Iremember playing with the Colorado Avalanche at this
stage in my head and I triednot to do this. I was planning

(16:51):
my day with the cup. Iwas planning what the parade was going to
look like, you know what Imean, Because you start to think about
it. It's so close, andyou just see we just did the interviews
with them, and the focus eachand every series gets magnified. You can
just see it in their eyes, right. All they care about is what's
gonna happen tomorrow night, And youcan just feel it. All of a

(17:12):
sudden, there's more media. Allof a sudden, there's more people around
everybody in the city is talking aboutit, you know, because Dallas is
a football town. But now wehave the Mavericks, we have the stars
that are both in the conference final, and people are going banana lands with
sports right now. So cowboys aretaking a bit of a back seat to
both hockey and basketball, and it'sgreat to see the stars. In that

(17:33):
conversation, Sevvy that from the fromthe player standpoint is the equivalent of we
just saw Xander Schoffley win his firstmajor in the PGA Championship, and it
feels like if you're a pro golfer, you get to that point, but
if you don't win a major, there's something missing and you always, I
don't want to say you have regrets, but in the back of your mind,
you just you know, you feellike you just you kind of you

(17:56):
didn't get all the way there,and you know, and that's a that's
an individual Hockey is the ultimate teamsport. But if you finish your career,
you can do whatever you do inyour career in the National Hockey League.
If you don't have your name onthat cup, it kind of feels
is it feel a little empty feel, especially if you played for good teams
in a long time. Oh yeah, especially those kind of guys who kind
of, you know, their careers, they kind of expect that they're good

(18:18):
enough to do that, you knowwhat I mean. And then there's nothing
better because I've been on the icewhen they bring out the Stanley Cup and
you're ready and you get to holdit, like your breath goes away for
that instant, like you know it'scoming to you. You're gonna be able
to hold it, You're gonna beable to throw it above you and show
it to the fans. Yeah,it is a pretty amazing feeling, and

(18:41):
you want you're just like, man, everybody's got to feel this because it
is so cool and when you grabit you feel it for the first time,
it is so strange, like itis absolutely surreal to have that in
your hand and then be able toshare it with your family and your friends
are there. You want every hockeyplayer because everybody goes through a lot,
whether you're a super star or yourfourth line slug like myself. Everybody goes

(19:03):
a lot. You sacrifice a lot, and the ultimate thing is to hold
that because you see it on TVso many times, it's pretty amazing,
and that's what those guys are buyingfor sooner. On the other hand,
said today, it doesn't define it'snot going to define his career, obviously,
it Osaki said, but it won'tdefine his career, but he wants
the opportunity, obviously to hold thatthing. And you could just see the

(19:25):
determination and Jamie Benz and Suitors Eyesand Pevelsi. Those are the three guys
that were interviewed today and you canjust see that it's a different level.
That's what we miss as ex athletes, is to be able to go in
there and compete like that. Well, there's nothing like competing for a Stanley
Cup. It's the hardest thing towin. I know people kind of joke
about that, but this is aleague that doesn't have anything called load management

(19:48):
like the NBA does. These guysall played if they could play eighty two,
they would have played eighty two games, and then they get to this
point. Everyone's hurt, everyone's bangedup. But I feel like the four
best teams in the NHL are left. Really truly feel that, Sevvy.
I think the four I think thetwo best teams in the Eastern left and
I don't think there's any doubt thetwo best teams in the Western Conference are
left this series. You said Dallasand six. It feels like I would

(20:11):
tend to agree if if Dallas staysout of the penalty box, because you
know, the bouche bombs, bouchhardsshooting from the blue line is terrifying,
like Allum McGinnis all over again. And the same time you got, of
course dreiseidle Hymen and McDavid and alittle bit of depth. To me,
it comes down to goaltending. Andlast year we talked about goaltending a lot
with Ottinger and Grubauer, and nowthis year, I mean, it feels

(20:34):
as if helped me out here.It feels as if Dallas has a massive
advantage in goal because Skinner is justkind of I mean, he is teetering
man, he is, and Vancouverdid a horrible job of putting pressure on
him in the last two games.Yeah, he's been inconsistent, right,
that's the nice way to put it, right. Yes, he has some
good games games. Yeah, that'sjust trying to be nice, right,

(20:55):
because I am nice. So thething about Ottinger is he's really corner like.
He had some stages this season whereI'm not really sure why. He
fluctuated with some good games and somebad games, and then near the end
of the season he took a bitof a hiatus, I would say where
they let Wedgewood after his injury,They let Wedgwood take a couple of starts,

(21:17):
and all he did was work onhis game with goaltender coach Jeffries.
And then when he came back, that's when he really started to put his
game into place. Then he hitsplayoffs and he's playing pretty well, but
still not where you're like, ohmy gosh, this is Ottinger. All
of a sudden, it was Ithink it was Game three where there was
an overtime game with the Vegas GoldenKnights. It was a third period and

(21:41):
the way, the casual way hisbody language was stopping the puck and his
movement across the net, and evenin overtime, it seemed like he's just
there was a calming effect to hisgame. And I don't know if I'm
seeing things or I've never asked himabout it, but all of a sudden,
he was just tight. Every aspectof his game was tight. And
since that point he's had some reallygood games and he's the aten year that

(22:03):
we saw last season, and he'sgot to be great. To win a
Stanley Cup, you have to begreat. Your goaltender has to be the
best. Your top lines have toscore. And with the Stars, their
depth scoring is there. So they'vehad everything that they need to. And
I said this in the radio showyesterday. If the Stars play their game
as I've seen them this year, there's no team in the National Hockey League

(22:27):
that can beat them. There's none. I've seen it with all the teams
this year and at times the Stars, I said, play with their food,
right. They didn't look so goodat the beginning of the year.
Yet they're winning all these games.I'm like, yeah, they're winning games,
but they're not a team that Ithink can win the Stanley Cup.
That has changed the last six sevenweeks of the season. It changed,
the playoffs has changed. If theystick to their game, they're going to

(22:49):
go all the way. And that'swhy they're so excited that they have this
opportunity. Well, a team thatmoves a puck like they do, in
a heavy team that can lean onthose guys as well that that skill,
it just it feels, like Isaid, it's just a great matchup.
I can't wait for it to starttomorrow. Quick thought from you, Dallas
and six you're thinking here in theWest. Who do you think Dallas is
gonna play if they get through toAnd who do you think is gonna come
out of the East. Oh,that's a tough one over there right when

(23:12):
you. I would just love tosee the Florida Panthers go on, because
they're meaty, they're mean, they'regritty, you know what I mean.
I love to see the Stars, and I'm saying the Stars are going on
the Stars in Florida. I'd loveto see that. But the Rangers,
right, they're the team that digsdeep and finds a way to win hockey
games, and they're They're the bestteam that I saw this season, the
Rangers. And I really thought theHurricanes were gonna go further than they did,

(23:34):
you know what I mean? Butthose two obviously had a clash and
what of them meant to come outwinding? So I would like to see
Florida and Dallas. I think thatwould be the best for me for a
Stanley Cup final. I hate thatcheck it can check out checking those guys
are Florida is mean? You likemean, don't you because you're kind of
a mean guy yourself. I know. Well it's last ye. Well listen,

(23:59):
it's hockey, right, you canyou can hit guys. It's okay.
It's actually you were talking soccer before. Whatever you're talking. It ain't
those little fluffy sports. No,this is where you put the sweat fans
on, you bite down on themouth guard and let's get after it.
I love it. It's gonna beone of those kind of series. Uh,
Edmonton and Dallas. Game one istomorrow, the first the first game

(24:22):
tonight of the Eastern Conference Final iscoming up with the Rangers taking on the
Florida Panthers. It's gonna be fantastic. Enjoy the games. We will check
in with you here on the Homeof the Kraken ninety three point three kJ
RFM. We'll check in with youagain, Sebbie, because we love talking
to you. Jabs aside, funaside, You're one of our favorite people
to get with, So thank youso much, and enjoy this great playoff
series. Yeah, thanks for promoninghockey out there, I know, and

(24:47):
good luck with your coaching look overthere and hopefull you guys will get a
good one and get your team goingagain. Yeah, ron Francis, he's
gonna leak all the information for usbecause he's known for leaking info. So
you know, I mean, youget stuff out of the Pentagon easy than
Ronnie there. So that's Brent Severn. I appreciate his time. We'll take
a break, we'll come back.We are at the Virginia Mason Athletics Center,

(25:07):
the vMac today. We're hanging outwatching the Seahawks OTAs because our team
is not in the Stanley Cup playoffsright now, so that's what we're doing
watching football. They're ignoring the DallasCowboys in Dallas, but we're watching football
out here. We'll tell you whatwe've seen so far from the first day
of OTS and are open to themedia right here on ninety three point three

Got a little I had a chucklethis morning as we just popped out during
a little bit of a break. All right, I'm gonna tell everybody what

(25:55):
we did. We take Brent Severnearlier. So I went out and watched
the practice in the last twenty fiveminutes. Honestly over here, honestly people.
Of course we knew that for naswe knew. Yeah that taboo.
Okay, yeah, So I wantto watch a little football practice. I
want to watch at the football practice. I loved to shot at soccer there
at the end, like, whatwhat are we doing? Listen, you
guys get better and you won't getshots better. What are you talking about?

(26:18):
Is the most popular sport in theworld. I'm talking better. That's
the soft part of it. Thewrithing in pain, I think is what
he was mentioned. Yea, youyou have to admit that's a bad part
of the game, right, thatyou don't watch the highest level. If
that's what you think, I'm justtelling you it doesn't. I'll turn on
the World Cup here in two yearsand we'll see the same thing. But
the MLAs you talked about it,they've done a better job, right,

(26:41):
They've gotten rid of it, likelike Ruy Diaz started to do it in
Portland a couple of weeks ago, right, like he went down like a
ton of bricks and was like, you know, flopping like a fish out
of water, and then realized thatif if he stayed down, he's gonna
have to Is it two minutes youhave to go out for it's not a
yellow card for the other team.Yeah, yeah, you have to be
out for these. He's glancing around, looking over his shoulder and sees nothing
coming out of the referees pocket. He's like, oh, I guess I'm

(27:02):
okay, pop back up. That'shonestly, it's a great it's a great
rule what they did, because youdon't see it in the NWSL. You
don't see that stuff. Well, you don't see it in the European leagues
either, So I can't watch that. Man, I listen, I got
I'm overloaded as this. I'm watchingfootball practice out here today. Guy,
you know I'm watching football practice, real football. That is what multiple screens?

(27:22):
Yeah, well, I can't havemultiple screens when I want a field
there. Uh, Caitlin Clark,We're gonna hear from her in a second
one o'clock. Some first impressions ofSeahawk rookie or not rookie Seahawk Ota.
I'll tell you a little funny clipfront a funny thing. Mike McDonald has
a sense of humor. Who dow. I'll tell you what he had to
say to the medium when he walkedout in just a couple of seconds as

(27:45):
well. We'll do that one o'clocklist of Charleston's gonna join us at one
twenty today. Uh, let's getCaitlin Clark. She is back in town.
And remember the last time do youguys remember the last time they were
here? She played a game here? I did not. Actually it was
last year twenty twenty three in theElite eight. In March twenty seventh at

(28:06):
Climate Pledge Arena, Caitlin Clark andIowa number two knocked off number five Louisville
Lewisville Hayley van lylf Right from Kashmereninety seven eighty three, not overtime,
by the way, ninety seven eightythree. In that game, Kitlin Clark
and Iowa earned their first trip toa final four. And how about this

(28:29):
her game that particular day, I'mnot sure if she can quite match it.
She was good. She had fortypoints. Geez, yeah, is
that good? Yeah? I thinkso. She's all right. She had
forty points, a triple double, forty points, twelve rebounds, tennysis.
Wow, that's kind of good.I'm sorry. Twelve assists, ten rebounds,
forty one, twelve and ten. That's really good. That was her

(28:52):
last time here, so she's gotpretty good memories. As you hear about
climate Pledgerina, Yeah, well,I think I don't know. I think
that's kind of the fandom of like, you know, Iowa women's basketball really
started, and you kind of starstarted to see women's basketball really take off.
Obviously, I had never been toSeattle in my life, and then
coming here, we didn't really knowwhat to expect. We didn't know how
our fans would travel, We didn'tknow really much. But just to see
the support of the women's basketball, you know, whether it was us playing,

(29:17):
whether it was other teams playing,I think like that was the biggest
thing when I came here and noticedthat, like this arena was packed,
Like there wasn't a seat that wasopen coming here, and I felt like
that that weekend was definitely a stepforward for women's basketball. And then that
just led to the Final Four, and you know, everything kind of has
just been, you know, onthe up and up since. Really that
moment, a good pad is gettingmore and more popular. If there's going

(29:38):
to be a pack now of goodNight, how exciting Sae. Yeah,
I think it's it's amazing. It'syou know, never something you take for
granted. Whether we've been on theroad or whether we've you know, been
at home, the fans have beenabsolutely incredible. They've been loud, they've
been into it, a lot ofa lot of fever fans when we're still
on the road. I think whenwe went to New York for their home

(30:00):
opener, their crowd was that environmentwas one of the best I've ever played,
and their crowd was was really reallygood. And I expect the same
thing here tonight. But I thinkour group is, you know, it's
not anything like we've we've shied awayfrom. It's like you embrace it,
like look around and soak that inand like that's kind of what coach chrisy
has said, whether we had ourhome opener, we played on the road,
like just look at all these peoplehere wanting to support and watch you,

(30:21):
Like, you know, that's reallycool. Do you feel like an
ass but I respect? How doyou do? I mean? Sure?
I mean you could say I'm anambassador and you know, helping grow our
game. But I think that comeswith how I play basketball, on the
way I carry myself. I don'tthink it's anything like you've set out to
do. I think it's just comewith, you know, the way I've
played the game, the way I'vecarried myself, how much fun I've had

(30:41):
over the course of my college career. Then coming into the w NBA,
I you know, hope to continueto do that. So I mean,
I definitely, you know, takethat responsibility of you know, helping grow
the game and show how amazing itis. But at the same time,
like it's because of you know, the play on the court and the fun
on the court. Tape it upreally tight and let the adrenaline work.

(31:08):
It's usually the best thing to do. Honestly, I'm not kidding. The
first coal games and like everyone cansee in a stride team in I think
a stride game first Game two win. That next biggest step is I think

(31:29):
just like the competitive energy that weplayed with in Game three and four.
You definitely saw it changing game three, But in Game four, like I
think there was just an attitude aboutus, like, you know, this
is our home court. We expectto win, Like it's not like we're
just going up there and trying tostay in the fight. Like we expect
to win these games. And that'swhat you would expect of any competitive team.
And I think just the energy thatwe played with, I think you

(31:51):
can tell the ball isn't sticking asmuch on offense. Our defense is slowly
getting better. But I think, you know, we got into the locker
room after Connecticut and it felt likea game could have easily won, And
that was probably the most frustrating ofthe four games because we were right in
it. But I think, asyou know, as we go through these
games and we're writing these games andgive ourselves a chance, that's that's what
you all you can ask for. There was many opportunities where you know,

(32:12):
we could have gone up by sixor eight when we had a four point
lead. So I think just goingback and cleaning up things such as,
you know, transition defense, that'sbeen a huge focus for us, turnover,
taking care of the ball a littlebit better, you know, not
giving up so many offensive rebounds inthe Storm do a really good job of
offensive rebound and so that's gonna bea huge key tonight. So I think
it's just you know, little things, it's not like huge things. But
once you can play hard and reallycompete, you can go back and focus

(32:35):
on, you know, where weneed to fix some schematical things and that's
a little easier to fix rather thanyou know how hard we're competing every single
night. There you go, KaelynClark. I'll just I mean, just
a quick thing. She just getsit. My god, she just gets
it. She just absolutely gets itunder like when asked about being an ambassador.
She's played what four games in herin her professional career, and she

(32:57):
gets it. Yeah, I am. It's how I play, it's how
I carry myself. Those things areimportant to her. I just I don't
think I could, I could bea bigger fan of an athlete in just
the totality than I am of her. Because she's got the weight of an
entire league. I'd say she's gotthe weight in some ways of an entire
gender on her shoulders. Yeah, and she handles it beautifully. I'm sorry,

(33:23):
Seattle Storm. I just I hopeshe has an incredible night tonight if
you guys win, But she hasa great night, so be it whatever.
I just I'm rooting for her allday, every day. I just
think it's I think it's just greatfor all sports boys and girls. But
I think just like I said, she's got the league on her shoulders,
she's got a gender on her shoulders, and it doesn't FaZe her. She

(33:44):
answers everything with class. She answerseverything beautifully and perfectly. Go get them,
Caitlin, Go get them. Man. You are You are the reason.
You are the reason that there isso much focus right now, period,
end of story. All due respectto all the veterans that have been
around this league and carried it forso long. We'll take a break.

you want me on, it's theRutgers pre game show. Otherwise I am

(35:14):
off that day. Washington Ucla Friday, November fifteenth, So two Friday night

think the second one is that ahome game. I believe it is in
Seattle. So one Friday night homegame for Washington that's against UCLA six o'clock

(35:35):
on November the fifteenth. Let's go. Let's see what else I got going
on Ohners. Yeah, they're winning, they're good. Yeah, they beat
the Yankees, beat the breaks offfor them second straight time. We'd love
that action. I'm gonna keep hatingon ty Franton, Dylan Marks it makes
them play better? Is that whatit is? I think so? I
think so, Dylan Moore, youmean the guy that drove in four runs
right twice last night. I neversaid he shouldn't be in every day player.

(36:00):
I don't think he's an everyday shortstop. There's a big difference, big
difference. We will revisit this duringMoliwak this week starts. Do it because
Chris Crawford is on my vote.I know him well. He'll turn on

(37:08):
right, we're back. So itlooks like two Friday night home games for
Washington or two Friday night games forWashington at Rutgers and at home against UCLA
announced Friday night lights on the Bigtwelve or Big ten, whatever the hell
they're in the nowadays, Big ten, Big twenty, Big ten, Big
twenty, big lots going on outhere. I gotta tell you this,

(37:30):
this is funny. So general vibe. First of all, it's different,
man, It's it's very different.I will be curious. In fact,
I'm gonna go ask the question.I assume, but maybe I shouldn't assume.
I'll ask the question at a break. I'll go find the guy in
charge. I wonder. I assumethey're still gonna have open training camp practices.

(37:52):
That is a good question, becausethat was a big pe thing.
It was a party. Was onepercent of pete thing. Yeah, we'll
ask. I'll ask that question.Because the music is there, it's subdued.
I'll be honest with you. Itsounds a lot like I haven't been
to a Washington practice. I wentto a Wazoo practice with Leitch in twenty

(38:13):
eighteen. Felt like that was kindof They had some music, but it
was really quiet. Yeah, itwas just there. It's there. I
know, like a lot of highschools, a lot of other colleges,
you have music, but it's justkind of background. Like it's kind of
low. That's kind of what itis here. It's a good vibe.
But it was funny because Mike McDonaldwalked out and then a bunch of us
were standing there as he walks outof the locker room area. The office

(38:34):
is down there to go on thefield. As guys were finishing their stretching,
and he comes walking out and hesays, he says, how's the
music is allowed enough for you guys, and kind of laughs and walks away.
So Mike McDonald with a sense ofhumor, Yeah, that's breaking news.
I probably got a question about thatmore than anything. Yeah, yeah,
I would put that in the breakingnews category. Mike McDonald because he

(38:55):
has been as button down. MikeMcDonald has a sense of humor, ladies
and gentleman. He has a militantway about him, but I don't mean
that in a negative way. He'sjust straight and narrow. Right now,
it's all positive until they go startlosing games. Like right now, it's
all positive. Let's go. It'slike spring training. I got some stuff

(39:15):
I'll post up on the Instagram anduh in all those places. I mean,
oh, I don't know. Idon't like tweet and so I'll put
it from someplace else. Made teachTwitter account, some good stuff with Scott
huff and the offensive line. Imean, really, honestly, it just
starts there. There are some guysmissing, a couple guys. I don't
know if we can say it,we say DK's not here. I guess
we can I just did You cansay you didn't see him. I didn't

(39:37):
see him. Yeah, the DKMetcalf. I didn't see DK Metcalf on
the field. I did not seeAbe Lucas on the field. Here,
big Scott Hoff guy, aren't youin? I think Scott, I'm just
watching him and I'm seeing different I'mseeing a lot of technique being taught.
I'm seeing a little different vibe withthe offensive lineman. He's really hands on,
I mean really really hands on onevery every snap, every rep these

(40:00):
guys are taking. Yeah, Ithink he's now. You know, transitioning
from college to pros is hard anddifferent and challenging for a lot of different
guys. But this is a reallyyoung offensive line. So the transition for
Huff I think will be better oreasier than it would maybe be for some

(40:21):
other If you're coming in from collegeand it's your first pro job and you
go from Boise State to UDUB andall of a sudden you're coaching grown ass
men and you're in the NFL onoffensive line, and those guys are a
whole different breed of human being,I think it would be harder if you
had a veteran Leyden offensive line. They don't this this group, I mean
old the Timmy's your starting center,he's a second year guy. Your two

(40:44):
starting tackles are third year guys. You're starting right guard is probably going to
be, well, it's either goingto be a rookie or a second year
guy. You're starting left left guardis probably going to be a little bit
more of a veteran, but itcould be a second year guy of Bradford
flips over there, young young groupof offensive alignemen. So yeah, I
think maybe the fit should be good. You know, Sam hel is not

(41:04):
tall. That's the other thing thatjumped out of me. He's not not
very tall. But wait, SamHowell is not tall. Sam hal is
not tall. And I think Ijust saw Destridge on the field longer than
I've seen him on the field inthe last four years. Oh, that
deserves its own breaking news. Itis because he was he was stretching.
At least it seems to be okay, right, Hey, you're actually stretching.

(41:27):
That means maybe less soft tissue injuries. You know what I was I
was looking at too, Sorry, well, I was down by the defensive
linemanana I was seeing Mike Morris outthere was something that I was actually glad
what did they list him as?I was just going to look that up
because he is a big, bigperson. Uh where is here we go?
Uh? Six six, three ohsix. That's a that's a key

(41:51):
guy for this team that didn't knowhe played part of one game and didn't
even play that well because he washis shoulder was was jacked up. He
ended up having surgery. And Ithink that's one of those kind of forgotten
you know guy, it's totalmost it'salmost the football, the college football thing.
Like he red shirted his freshman year. That's a guy that they could

(42:12):
have used last year. They couldhe would have helped them tremendously on the
edge. He's a guy on onthat defensive line. I think he would
have helped them a ton. Andso yeah, I'm excited to see and
I'm he was out there and workingand taking drills and looked as as what
he's listed. Yeah, by theend of the year, I think he
was one of those guys that wasclose to being you know ready anyway,
you know, Chenna told me atI'm trying to think when he told me

(42:36):
this, maybe the second to lastgame, the home game or something.
I remember talking to Chenna and hesaid, yeah, man, cause I
said, how close are you?And he says, if we get to
the playoffs, I think I mightbe like maybe like a second round or
something like that. I think hethought he was going to give it a
go. I don't know if theywould have let him do that, but
but you know he thought he wasclose. I mean, you had those
two guys, Bira Murphy rebuilt outdefensive line, and then obviously you know

(42:57):
a coach that's that's defensive minded,So keep an eye on things out there
and maybe grab somebody to pop inhere that's watching practice and have them pop
on with us as well. Solots to get to in that regard.
You know, I did tease thisearlier with Caitlyn Clark, the uh we're
gonna talk to with Thissa Charleston ina few minutes her second game or third
game, I guess here she wouldhave played two right in the lead in
the Sweet sixteen Elite eight to getto the Final four. In twenty twenty

(43:20):
three. That game, which iskind of amazing, only had eleven thousand
people at it, so they wereseven thousand undercapacity. It was kind of
before the Caitlyn Clark mania wasn't itreally was? Yeah, eleven thousand,
seven hundred. Now it's I seeeleven thousand, seven hundred, So I
almost I'm wondering if they curtained offthe upper bowl or the end zones.
That's what happened. They didn't openit all up, which is odd.

(43:40):
You would think you would just openit up. And if you can sell
them, you can sell them. But she'll play in front of about seven
thousand more people here at Climate Pledgetonight than she did in that last game.
Haley van lyth, By the way, I had twenty seven in that
game, So it was I mean, it was a back and forth affair.
But she kind of mentioned that inthe sound we played earlier. This
is this is kind of where Iowabasketball came a thing. Really was Iowa

(44:01):
basketball? It was Caitlyn Clark saythat. No, you know what,
and you're one hundred percent right,Yeah, it's exactly who it was.
It was. It was more ofit was a Caitlyn Clark phenomenon started to
take off. You know, shehad that was her second triple double I
think of the tournament. She holdsthe record for triple doubles and Nancy and
Then's for n c W women's basketballtournaments as well. But yeah, it

(44:24):
was it was more Caitlyn Clark thanit was Gabby Marshall and Kate Martin and
all those guys, right, Soit was it was it's when it was
kind of their their big thing comingout. So we'll talk about that with
a listen a minute again. TreyBrown will join us probably right around right
around two twenty twenty five, hopefullyin there once Jessica corral him coming off
the off the field. We'll seewe got it. You know, we

(44:46):
also got to see we go tosee how punctual the Mike McDonald practices are.
Oh yeah, I was actually givinga good timeline of how things are
gonna go because Pete Carroll time wasn'talways bang on right. It was a
little I'm gonna do it. WhenI feel like my team is ready to
be done with practice, I thinkI'll end it. This guy might have
things scripted out to the second,so we'll we'll find out later on.

(45:08):
But yeah, Trey Brown will befun to talk to him. Part of
that really good secondary for Seattle andthe guy that's playing for a new defensive
coordinator, new defensive coach, headcoach as well. So that's all coming
up today. Stick around Fournine fourto five one, Teleroto texts on his
game time. So your thoughts.I told you this earlier one, two
and three Mariners Seahawks OTAs we'll getto watch today. And also the Caitlin

(45:29):
Clark phenomenon. What's one, twothree in the list today for your sports
interest here in Seattle. It is. It is that the biggest story of
Caitlin Clark coming to town Seahawks OTAis number three behind the Mariners red hot
Street. Going on your thoughts onthat four nine, four to five one,
we'll get to those coming up later. First, take a quick break.
Alictit Charleston, my good friend fromFox thirteen joint just coming up next

my co worker, she'll be workinghard tonight pregame postgame coverage at Climate

Alyssa Charleston, the Legend, theIdaho Vandal Legend. Alyssa Charleston joins us
right now. Hello, how areyou? I'm good. It always makes

(46:37):
my day when you call me alegend because it just throws me back to
the old days. But far fromyou a legend now you know that,
No, nope, but you aremissing football practice. We're already in We're
already won one half of an hourinto a first football practice of the year
that we get to watch Ota Ota. So our buddy Aaron Levie out here

(47:00):
covering that for Fox thirteen tonight, and Alyssa will be at Climate Pledge Arena.
Let me we may touch on someother topics, but let's just get
to the big one at hand.I mentioned this earlier, Alyssa, I've
I've been here for a while.I was here the last two years before
the Sonics left. I was hereworking at Colomo before that, years before.
Outside of when Michael Jordan or maybelike some of the great Laker teams

(47:23):
that are rolling into town. Ican't remember many times when the media would
cover an opposing team's morning shoot around. It just doesn't happen that often.
Maybe it'll happen more when the NBAreturns. You you know, you'd cover
your own team shoot around. Butmostly I'm not the opposing team. Today,
everyone's covering the Indiana Fever shoot around, which is probably according to a

(47:44):
lot of guys were talking to today, they cover the WNBA for a while.
I don't think that's ever happened.I don't think it's even in finals.
No one's ever really covered the morningshoot around for the Storm's opponent.
Does that just kind of magnify howbig katewin Clark is. It's one of
billion examples. Honestly, in thelast year that we've seen she has completely
changed women's basketball from the college leveland she's taken it to the WNBA.

(48:08):
I mean, ticket sales are upover two hundred and forty percent across the
league. She's sold out stadiums, sold out arenas across the country. And
it's because initially, like ESPN hasbeen a free marketing tool for her,
Like they have really poor resources intoher and magnified what she does but there

(48:28):
just aren't many players that do whatshe does and are willing to do what
she does. We've talked about itbefore, the Steph Curry esque like ball
handling into a three point shot wherethe release is so crazy fast, And
the only player that's really I thinkI can compare to in the WNBA is
a Rique a bunbowalle Like. Shedoes that kind of stuff on the regular.

(48:49):
She did it to Caitlyn Clark ingame one or game two potentially that
she plays with the Dallas Wings. These step back threes, they just like
electrifly crowds, and Caitlin just hither deepest three by far since joining the
league in their last game against theConnecticut Sun. It was truly like deeper
than the logo and nailed it.The place went crazy, And that's what

(49:10):
the WNBA has waited thirty years forto really get everybody in on it.
And they've had teams, no doubt, they've had stars and the storms.
Everyone in Seattle has already known whatit's like to support women's basketball, but
there's no one quite doing what she'sdoing. And like even pr people in
the league are like, hands up, I don't know, like this is
wild, Like they're expecting eighteen threehundred people tonight a Klindt Pledge arena.

(49:36):
That's more than Sue Bird's retirement andthat hasn't been officially released yet obviously in
terms of like ticket sales, butthat beats Sue Bird's retirement. And Caitlin
Clark is in her fifth WNBA game, Like that is just unheard of.
The basketball st Alsa Charleston joining usfrom Fox thirteen, the basketball stuff,
and I want to come back tothat in a heartbeat and kind of touching

(49:58):
a little bit what's going on.But when you when you sell eighteen thousand
tickets for a WNBA game in May, that is you know, home game
number two, regular season game numberwhat five for both teams, It's you're
not getting just WNBA fans. It'sobviously a crossover like a like, if
we're probably being honest, the coregroup of Storm fans that would go to

(50:19):
every game would be somewhere between youknow, six and eight thousand, big
game a lot more than that, you know, you start getting crossover.
We're talking about people that have neverever been to a WNBA game before they're
going to go tonight. And it'sbecause of Caitlin Clark. We played her
pregame her shoot around sound today andI mentioned that just listening to her,
she gets it. She was askedabout, you know, the being the

(50:39):
face and having responsibility and you know, and being an ambassador, and she
just to me, she answers everythingso perfectly. That explains it. But
for you, who you know, and you've frankly fought for your own rights
as a female athlete, I meanit's hard, it's an uphill battle.
What is it about her that isso different than Cheryl Swoop, Cynthia Cooper,

(51:02):
Lisa Leslie, Diana Trossi, superbBrianna Stewart, Lauren Jackson, name
them all? What is so differentabout her? Why is it Caitlin Clark
Alyssa that you think that has capturedthis country's imagination. Well, it's honestly
a lot of what I just saidabout, just the ability to take and
make threes from so deep. Imean, it's also the court vision.

(51:25):
I've talked about this to you onthe show too, Like she's averaging five
and a half a sixth through herfirst four games, and a lot of
the big problem that a lot ofpeople are talking about is turnovers, like
she's had twenty six through her firstfour games, that's the second most in
WNBA history. But you see alot of them. Her teammates are still
getting used to her, so likethey're kind of mishandling some of them.

(51:46):
Most of them are on Caitlin Clark, no doubt, but she's kind of
figuring that part out. But hercourt vision is what really made a lot
of fans fall in love with herat IOWAK because they tune in because they
hear someone making shots from the parkinglot right like just silly range, crazy
and the release too. She's comingoff screens and immediately letting go the ball.

(52:07):
She's taking crazy angles where it's likeyou take the replay and you're behind
her and the defender's right in herface and she's moving her shot pocket where
she's releasing the ball and still theshot is dead on and straight and perfect
art every single time. It's kindof nutty the way that she's able to
release the ball and just the shootingmechanics that Steph Curry took over the world

(52:30):
when he was doing that early onwith the Warriors, and he did it
at Davidson's. But it's left thatawe factor and Cheryl Spoof's had it,
Lisa Leslie had had it with adunk. I think there is more skill
that's being developed early on, justbecause more young girls are wanting to be
in the WNBA, because I've saidit before that wasn't really a dream of

(52:51):
mine growing up, just because Iknew how few teams there were and how
you know, it wasn't really adesirable a desirable profession. It is more
so now and it's really cool. It's very inclusive for the first time really
in a long time outside of women'sbasketball, and people like me, the
WNBA is cool, Like maybe noteveryone agrees with that, but it is

(53:13):
the new persona like it is coolto watch the WNBA right now and that
has not been the past, inany part of the past. And so
I think a lot of it alsois ESPN finally investing. And I will
say ESPN in particular because I knowthat a lot of the Big Ten games
were some of them more on Foxand poured it in, but like a
lot of people watch ESPN and theydid a bunch of highlight reels and interviews

(53:36):
and showed her off, and Ithink that's what players have been calling for
for a long time. It's like, put us on TV and we will
impress. We will draw in fans. Those who don't like the games can
be their grumpy cells forever. Youknow that they just don't even give it
a chance. Right, that's fine, they don't need those kind of fans,
Like you can live in your ownworld. But for those that want
to see some of the fundamentals stuffthat the NBA is completely deserted, this

(54:00):
game is capturing those fans. Well. I mean, just if you want
to see how not to finish agame, just watch the final two minutes
of Boston and Indiana yesterday and youcan see the worst coaching worst coaching coaching
job I've ever seen, or howBoston managed to finish a game. Okay,
depending on which side you're looking at. Yeah, I don't think that

(54:21):
was it, to be honest withyou, I think a team. Yeah,
I mean, when your when yourstar player has two on first turnovers
dribbling off his knee, uh,and then your coach decides not to foul
up. Just mind boggling. Butyeah, Like there's people that say,
I want to see the dunks,I want to see the hot I want
to see people play above the rim. I think once you get past the
point of that's going to be thecase that like they're not playing above the

(54:43):
rim, but they are doing andshe is special. The turnovers are something
I thought was interesting. We wereI had the conversation with a couple guys
here in the media room earlier aboutthat, like a lot of her turnovers
they're credited to her, but youtouched on on Alyssa. They're going off
teammates hands like Gabby Marshall and andKate Martin. That group, they were
used to it. They they youknow, they knew the pass is coming.

(55:04):
I think those will get cleaned upalong the way. Has that been
the biggest adjustment for her? Oris it strength? What is it that
is really kind of been the biggestthing that she's had to adjust to and
or is it? Honestly, isit fatigue? She just played thirty forty
games then just finished, right,So I wonder how much that kicks in
for these rookies too. Yeah, there's literally no real rest time because you're

(55:25):
then forced into a position where like, I've got to make the team.
Right. We knew Caitlin Clark wasgoing to make the team. But I
talked about this last week. Onlythirteen out of thirty six draft picks made
the NBA roster. This, yeah, just how it is. So she's
competing for her life like Nika Mule. Hopefully she returns tonight. It could
be the first rematch between those twoplayers because Nika's visa I think is going

(55:46):
to get figured out. I justI haven't gotten that confirmed yet or have
seen stuff confirmed. But they're fightingfor their lives, like right after the
you know, the WNBA draft, right So it's like you can't take any
time off. She has mentioned herself, Katelin Clark has that there is no
time you can take off. Thereis no play that you can take off
because you're the person you're defending isalready completely all the way down the floor.

(56:09):
If you take a second to breatheand try to regroup, there is
no moment to recover. And Ithink anyone who thought, like, oh,
Katelyn Clark would better than this. She's still averaging seventeen points a game
as a rookie, shooting thirty fourpercent from three. It's been way better
in the last two games. She'sgot a one to one assist a turnover
ratio in the last two games. That will improve. But like she is

(56:32):
figuring out how to adjust to thebest players in the world. If you're
thinking, like, oh, KitlinClark isn't impressing me as much as I
thought she would, you were underestimatingthe talent and the WNBA. It's just
the way it is. It's amazing. Man. I wonder, I'll wrap
up this conversation. I want toget a couple other things with you for

(56:52):
a second, but I wonder Alyssaif she's going to play any true road
games, and I bring that up, I'll never you know, you know
how things stay with you in ourbusiness, like you interview people and I'm
going back to a post game yearsand I'm dating myself badly. Bernie Bickerstaff
said at once when he's coaching theSonics, and it was in the early

(57:15):
days of the Michael Jordan hype, like the early kind of like Mike's like,
all of a sudden, Mike's theman. And I remember him after
a game and he said, Isaid, he said, man, we're
playing at home and this guy isplaying a home game in our building.
And he was right. And youknow, what Michael rarely played a whole
a road game, like it didn'tmatter what. You know, NBA Finals

(57:35):
different, you know, playoffs different, but regular season eighty two, Mike
didn't play a lot of road games, like there were people cheering for his
every They might cheer a basket bythe Sonics or whoever, but if Mike
scored, you knew it, Likethe building went crazy. I want it
sounds like you're thinking that's going tobe the case tonight. She's not.
She knocks down a couple of thirtyfooters, the place will go nuts,
won't they. Yeah. Absolutely.I mean the fact that they're estimating around

(58:00):
eighteen thousand. The Indiana Fever soldout Connecticut Son's home opener. I mean
that place han't been sold out sincetwo thousand and three, So I don't
think it was just Connecticut Sun fansthat were packing that place. The INDIANAFA
can travel really well. But Iwill say, when you listen to that
Connecticut game, that first game forCaitlin Clark at Connecticut, there were a

(58:22):
lot of fans that would cheer forher mistakes too, like they were trying
to get in her kernel where theywere all over it. So I think
it's going to be a good mixof both because people love to hate talent
too, you know, Like eventhere are WNBA players that are i'm sure
not caring for her failure, butlike wanting to show the rest of the
world she's not just going to comein here and take over and dominate our

(58:44):
league. I think that's the caseof some of these fans that have been
fans forever and are saying, like, yeah, it's Awslin that she's bringing
more excitement to the game, ButI think she is going to for sure
get haters. And it's interesting hebrought up Michael Jordan's she just signed with
Wilson. She's going to be thefirst ass since Michael Jordan to have her
own signature Wilson Ball, and she'sgonna have three different ones. Well,

(59:07):
i'll tell you what, It's gonnabe a ton of fun, man.
It is gonna be a ton offun. And I think just because of
what you said there with how theatmosphere is going to be, like,
people will cheer for her thirty footers, her step backs, all those things
we watched, you know, duringher career at Iowa. They'll be cheering
for that. But then if it'sa close game or what have you,
and she turns it over. I'msure yeah, that'll just lead lead to
just an incredible atmosphere tonight. You'vegot it all covered on Fox thirteen.

(59:30):
We should mention that Elise and DickFane have the game on Fox thirteen plus
tonight, so I don't know otherthings. I have cable. I'm old
Exfinity cable. It's channel one toten for the HD one thirteen to watch
Alyssa do the pregame and the livehits out there. So watch Fox thirteen
News at four, five and six, then flip it over at seven o'clock.
Fox thirteen. Plastic Fan and atleast Woodward will have the game for

(59:52):
you live right here free television inSeattle, Washington for that. Do you
have a postgame show for the Marinersthis week? We sure do, and
we will have post game lapshops forthose that don't get to watch the game
tonight. I'll be live likely inour nine pm on Fox fifteen plus and
our live ten PM show on Foxthirteen, just to recap all of it.
But June first, yeah, Junefirst and June fifteenth, we've got

(01:00:15):
Box thirteen extra innings with your guyBucky Jacobson. Never heard of the game,
never heard of never heard of him? No, no, does he
Is he kind of a big dealor something? How did he get that
gig? Pretty hard to not notice. I'll just say that I think he
might have played a little bit ofbaseball somewhere along the way. Yeah,

(01:00:36):
you guys will have fun with that. So that's so June first and June
fifteenth, that's those games on FoxTV, right on Fox thirteen. Fresh,
yep, perfect, all right nowat the list will be doing those
games. You're you're busy. Yeah, you're working hard. I like it.
Keep it up. Makes makes lessof the rest of us not have
to work so hard. I mean, Levive's sitting here eating eating chips and
drinking and drinking water right now,or it makes you look bad. I

(01:00:57):
know, I pass that. I'mwell past that. Well, he'll pass
that. There's a golf course, call my name right now. I'll let
it listen there and they can dothe hard work right now. Yeah,
I got I gotta worry about hawksin the fall. I got I got
enough coming up down down the line. So listen, have great, have
some fun tonight. I know foryou and for others who have played the
game, supported the game, beenambassadors, and you also have been a

(01:01:20):
great ambassador for the game. Alyssa, I think tonight I'll be special and
well deserved, and you should alltake it and enjoy it because it's a
lot of hard work to get hereand thanks to Caitlin Clark has taken a
big step forward. So enjoy thenight. Huge. Yeah, thank you
so much. Appreciate it, andthank you so much for featuring women's basketball
on your show on a consistent basis, because it makes a difference and it
makes it cool, like you said, and having someone who's respected in a

(01:01:45):
voice like yours continuing to sing thepraises or just speak honestly about it,
you know, that's important, andso I super appreciate you having that as
part of your shows. The Record, Let the Record Show. Lissa says
that being on this show makes youcool the record. Yeah, can we
save that? Can we save thatfor Yeah? Clip that? Clip it?

(01:02:07):
Clip it all right? All right? Four five and six pregame show
on Fox thirteen, then The Gameof Self Fox thirteen Plus, and then
the list will be back with you. Fox thirteen News tonight on Fox thirteen
plus at nine, Fox thirteen atten for all the coverage of tonight's and
I can tell you this ain't nobodygonna do a better job than her covering
this game tonight. So go havefun, take care. We'll talk to

(01:02:28):
you soon. Thank you, appreciatethat. There you go. That is
a list of Charleson joining us.I'm thrilled for her and others. Little
you know, I'll add some othersin that mix. Alasee Woodward and Dick
Fane. They've been doing Storm gamestogether for a long time in various roles.
And you know, I know, listen, I've done so much minor
league stuff, especially hockey, butI've done minor league baseball as well.

(01:02:50):
When you're doing games sometimes outside ofthe Big four or major college football,
and you're putting all the prep workin, you're working hard, you've done
rugby, you know what it's like. You put all that work and you're
like, is anybody watching? Doesanybody care? Like? And it's sometimes
it's it's a little deflating. AndI mean, I'll be honest. I
got into this business of sports radiofull time when I was doing games in

(01:03:12):
the American Hockey League in the NHL, and I never forget it. I
was sitting somewhere one night. Itwas in Cleveland, Ohio, in like
mid October and of two thousand andtwo, and I was like, man,
does anybody care? Like I'm puttinga lot of work into this,
does anybody care to do these broadcastsand everything else? And sometimes you just

(01:03:32):
kind of wonder if it's worth it. There's so much heavy lifting that the
people in the WNBA have done. And like a Lissa said, two thousand
and three is the last time theConnecticut Sun sold out a game? Two
thousand and three, Connecticut, that'sa hotbed for women's basketball, right Yeah,
And maybe it was thirteen, doesn'tmatter. It's been a long time.
Like so for all those who haveput so much heart and soul and

(01:03:53):
effort into saying, you know, hey, this is a great product and
watch or listen to us. Peoplelike Dick and a Lee and Alyssa and
others people write about it. Thisis a good This is a night for
them, you know, this isa night for them to truly enjoy the
fruits of their labor, because it'sgonna be a wild night. And I
think what Alyssa says really cool. There there will be cheers on every possession,

(01:04:14):
which would be fun. It'll probablyfeel kind of collegiate anders right,
like I kind of feel like alittle bit like kind of like a tournament
game, like there's it's not goingto be one hundred percent storm like like
there. I don't know, Idon't know. I don't think they'll be
playing a road game, but they'regonna be playing probably it might feel a
little closer to neutral sight at times. There's a lot of Seahawks that are
going to this game. I know. I saw a little bit of a
guest list going there. A lotof local celebrities who are going to be

(01:04:38):
there. No, no, I'mnot it is it is. We have
I think a lot of people fromour company are going in our suite.
Oh we have a suite. Wedo Would you get invited? And I
did not? I didn't either. It's weird. But anyway, No,
there's a there's just a lot ofpeople. I heard rumored that the Seahawks

(01:05:00):
are bringing all of their rookies aswell, which I think is really cool
for them. I do, Ido, I do, I do really
Like in our in our city whenwe see other teams supporting. Yeah,
you see that a ton across thecountry, you know, and we're starting
to see it more and more here. It's easier, I think, to
see people. Especially the Kracking havedone a great really since the start,

(01:05:23):
the Cracking have done a terrific jobof making sure that if a local celebs
specifically athletes though want to go toa game or that they get shown and
it's like, hey, there's youknow. I mean, I think we've
all seen our Philips, Sue andMegan, but we see, like,
you know here the Seahawks or imean Cal Rawley went to a ton of
Cracking games like he was always there. Well, and Bobby Wagner was that

(01:05:45):
almost every Storm game when he wasn'tin season, I saw him. They're
sitting there all the time, andhe always had someone used to come a
lot. kJ he can go watchthe team in the Wow, okay,
better you can go on. Heain't go down there. I'm gonna call
Bruce Serve and find out what he'sthinking these days. All right, let's
think of Brank. We'll do aquick daily power play and then reset the

well. Four nine four five oneToeleverdy text line A lot to get to

for the Daily power play. Hey, hey, brought to you by nobody

(01:06:50):
yet. Why can't like what's goingon? This should be the most sponsorable
thing in the world, right becauseyou sponsor it so well yourself. People
don't even know there's room is whatit is? Yes, brought about Ian
and rites about Ian Faness's Canadian accent? Can you do the whole segment with
that started? Indeed, indeed, indeed hearing some new names, hearing a

(01:07:16):
new name, Dean Everson, namebeing floated around. Perhaps Dean Everson.
Could he be the guy? Couldhe be the next coach? Tell me
a little bit about well, Idon't know much about He's from Flint,
flad Manitoba, flyin Flaon Manitoba rightnext to pak Flint Flad right next to

(01:07:42):
the park uh right and uh Mannitoba. Grew up in Brandon Whur's home of
the weekings. Guys all know thatformer coach of the Minnesota Wild played for
the Washington Capitals, played in theNational Hockey League for a number of years
Hartford, San Jose, Dallas,Calgary as well. Also played for Switzerland's

(01:08:04):
It looks like someone who would getalong with Ron Princess. Just from a
physical perspection. Yeah, he justlooks like a very hard nosed guy.
Guy from the dub We like thatplayed for the Spoken It might have not
been the Chiefs back then. Letme checking on he's he spoke on Flyers

(01:08:25):
of the Western Hockey League the precursorbefore they moved and came back. Also
played for the Camera Moves Junior Oilers. A. Yeah, So Dean Evison
is a name that's kind of you'restarting to kind of hear floating on the
underground a little bit. We askedSavy about him earlier. It feels like
maybe a chameleon type of coach inthe sense that is he a guy that's
gonna play I mean I hear thisword all the time, and it's not

(01:08:48):
always a bad thing, but structure. It was a weird thing this year
that what happened in Minnesota. Ithink that there was a I don't know
if I think sometimes players just don'tplay well, right, Like I think,
and and and I'll give you anexample, because because sometimes when the
coach gets fired, to like, hey, do you want to bring that

(01:09:09):
guy right back into the NHL Andhe just got fired from a team that
was a playoff contender or a playoffteam case in point Tom mcclell for example.
Right, And because they the Kingsgot better when Jim Heller, when
Jim Hiller took over, Uh,Minnesota got a little better, but not
that much better. Right, theydidn't make the playoffs, So you know,

(01:09:29):
And with Dean Ebison, I thecoach, sometimes the players. This
is where it comes to. Thecomparison comes in. Vancouver's got good players.
Rick Hockett is a good coach. They were awful. I mean,
yeah, they went seven against Edmonton, but they really had no business going
seven games against Edmonton and are bothbeing I'll give you besser in the last

(01:09:53):
game, demco she loves played justas well. I mean, there wasn't
a game with you thought that theGolds any cost them. Again, there
wasn't one game that that happened. That's fair best or not being there for
on the power playing the last game. Sure, but here's what a good
player like good players. Quinn Hughesdidn't score goal in the playoffs. They're
eleven million dollar forward, which byNHL standards, guys, is a massive

(01:10:15):
contract which kicks in next year.Elias Petterson didn't score like was awful,
like awful. Some have good playersmake good coaches look bad. Maybe that's
what happened in Minnesota. I'm notsure. Dean Emison has an interesting name.
It's it's coming up and it wouldalso fit the Ron Francis mold.
You know what that mold is.It's really simple, It's really simple.
The Ron Francis mold is expect theunexpected. He's done a player wise.

(01:10:43):
Personnel wise, Oh, we justdrafted and signed Chris Drieger. Boom,
We're gonna sign Philip Rubauer to acontract. What what? What? What?
Coaching wise? All the guys beingtalked about, Talckett was one of
those. For example, crack andannouncing their head coach tomorrow. Who is
it? I'm not sure. I'mnot sure. Dave Hackstall, what the
for a flyer coach? What like? So Everson hasn't been a name that's

(01:11:04):
been floated around a lot. Wetold you yesterday, I let Freeman giving
you a three names, Tod McClellan, Dan Bilsma, and Jay Leech.
I think if it was going tobe Leech, they would have already hired
him. I think it was McClellan, they already would have hired him.
I think either they're waiting for Biosma, maybe Everson's a guy. Maybe that's
the guy they want to talk to. Maybe that's a guy that they're looking
at. Who knows, but yeah, Dean Everson's the name out there.
Tonight, Stanley Cup Playoffs Eastern ConferenceFinals began New York Rangers Florida Panthers.

(01:11:30):
I mentioned this with sebby. Guys, if you're kind of a borderline hockey
fan, tonight's game is going tobe great. That Rangers Panthers series is
going to be an absolute bloodbath.Maybe awesome. It is going to It
is going to be nasty with acapitol and in it it skill too,
with a lot of skill, Likeit's the it's it's how the game should

(01:11:51):
and needs to be played. Physical, fast, high scoring, big hits,
little extra shot in the face afterevery whistle, just all that stuff.
Yeah, I'd be curious if Rempydresses Game one. I would dress
him. But yeah, I Iit's it's gonna it won't take long for

(01:12:14):
these two teams to have a massive, massive distaste for each other, much
like happen with Florida and Boston. It's gonna be it's gonna be great.
I'm usually not as interested, I'llbe honest with you. In the Eastern
Conference. This is must watch hockeyfor me. Absolutely, Rangers, the
Rangers too. Let's go Rangers, all right, Florida on board. I

(01:12:36):
don't know. I kind of likeFlorida, I like I kind of like
how they play. I do too, But I love the Rangers and how
they play too. So it's like, that's Florida's got a player you wouldn't
mind be having here, right?Which one? Sam Bennett? Yeah,
nastiest, dirtiest player in the game. It's fun to watch. Who scores
fifty Yeah, yeah, yeah, plays some power play. Yeah. I
think he think he'd make some guysplay a little bigger here. I think

(01:12:58):

(01:14:27):
to go look out all he gaveup one. At that point, you
get had to give it. I'mlike, man, this guy feels like
he's throwing a no no. That'swhen I keep my eye on a box
score and the MLB appy And becauseI won't turn it on because I've never
ruined everything, well, I hadit on. I just was like,
I felt like he had that kindof stuff. I had to second guess
yourself. Yeah, he's one ofmy favorite pitchers to watch too, just
because like he has so much control, like this perfect, amazing rotation,

(01:14:49):
isn't it? Big Night seatl IndianaFever, Caitlin Clark in town take on
the Seattle Storm. Seven o'clock isthe tip off. That game is on
Fox thirteen plus with our friend RichardL. Fane and Elise Woodward Richard L.
Fane, Dick Fane. We callit Oh the Call with Elase Woodward
Woodie, my old co host. She used to get angry at me all

(01:15:12):
the time. Anyway, that's tonightseven o'clock. It works with you.
What weird strange pregame? Check outFox thirteen and my friend will lista Charleston
no on with this earlier. She'llhave live shots from Climate Pleasure, Ena
and all the Caplin Clark coverage onFox thirteen News starting at four or five
and six tonight. NBA Playoffs.Last night, Celtics tied things up final
seconds Jayalen Brown three pointer. Youfoul up three late, Well, Rick

(01:15:35):
Carlisle, you haven't done it allplayoffs and finally caught up to you.
Yeah. Our headlines here say Celticscame back with a Jambond three pointer I
wonder who wrote those, because there'snothing written about what the Pacers did not
do. Yeah, I wonder whyturnovers in the final thirty seconds three end
of regulation. Well, all yougotta do is get the ball in bounds,

(01:15:57):
and as simple as that, youwin the game. Jason Tatum thirty
six, twelve and four. Prettygood game. So they lead that series
one game to none, Indiana blowingan opportunity to take an early lead in
the series. Stanley Cup Conference Finalsbegin tonight Panthers Rangers five o'clock in the
East Western Conference Finals Dallas Edmonton begintomorrow Sounders and Phoenix Rising FC. Tonight

(01:16:19):
US Open Cup Round of sixteen, seven thirty seven o'clock pregame Jackson over on
nine to fifty on the AM.I will have that four year home for
the Sounders and some early dates forfootball out. The Huskies have two Friday
games this fall. They will playat Rutgers and they will play at home
against UCLA Friday night games on BigFox. That'd be Fox thirteen locally.

(01:16:43):
Yeah, I don't put up todo anything to escaps. All right,
let's get a two o'clock hour minefrom the R and R Foundation Specialists broadcast
studio back to Ian Fernance, poweredby Seattle's closest sports book, snowp Call
May Casino on Sports Radio ninety threepoint kJ R FM. The biggest thing
is I would have to let's see, I'd get my Rutgers geared to do.

(01:17:08):
Uh, let's go live in Forestand Huski's team of the preview.
You know, why are you wearingRutgers gear? Ah? I just love
the scarlet Knights. Huge fan.You know what. I have some friends
who have gone through Rutgers in theircoaching careers, and I grew up very
close to there. I used toplay volleyball tournaments there all the time.
And wait, volleyball, that'd bea tournament. That's anamurnaments. So you're

(01:17:30):
saying you're a Rutgers fan. SoI have rognity for Rutgers. Yes,
So two Friday games for the Huskiesthat we were expecting at least one,
they get two. It looks likeon Big Fox that's part of the whole
new deal with the Big Ten andthe Fox takeover and all that fun stuff.
Okay, I want to get toit. We got the dumbest thing
you're gonna hear today and it's I'llsay this, it's half of it is
the dumbest thing you'll hear all day. The other half not as much,

(01:17:53):
so that makes it even more fun. For dumbest thing you're gonna hear all
today, all day today, andit's courtesy of Lebron James, which we'll
get to in just a couple ofmoments. Seahawks are on the field.
OTAs are wrapping up in about tenminutes or so. We'll have Trey Brown
pop in here a little bit lateron as well. Look so excited to
have a chance to talk to himface to face as they go through the
transition from Pete and his staff toMike McDonald and his staff. So we'll

(01:18:15):
find out, especially from a guyon the defensive side, what that transition
has been like, what it's beenlike in the meeting rooms, and just
kind of how things are different asthis new era of Seahawk football begins.
We're here at the Virginia Mason AthleticsCenter today covering the first OTAs, and
of course, the Caitlin Clark storyis coming up tonight as well. Mariners
trying to take a series win tonight. They take the series against the Yankees
and Andrews. I think we'd agree. We talked about this Monday on Molly

(01:18:38):
Wop. If they come out witha split against New York, assuming they'll
probably win the series in Washington, that's a hell of a week. Like,
that's a really good week for theMariners. And now we're not even
thinking split any Yeah. Hell,I think we're thinking another word that starts
with an S and it has todo with brooms. Yeah, that'd be
a tough one to go sweep afour game series that really make up for

(01:18:59):
the Minnesota series last week. ButI already kind of considered this week a
win. Getting three games out ofthe first two series was all I was
asking for, whether that was winningthe New York series and then you know,
losing the Baltimore series or winning theBaltimore series splitting both. Yeah,
so just getting three is a hugewin for me. So kind of whatever
happens now, you're kind of playingthe house money at this point. You

(01:19:21):
are a three game lead over theTexas Rangers and the American League lasta in
a high water mark for the season, five games above five hundred, and
then not just doing with pitching, like like they're hitting the ball, and
it's that I think when you lookat the runs scored. Even last night,
you know, the Yankees pulled withinone and the Mariners add on,
all being a couple of solo shots, but they played add On right and

(01:19:42):
that was huge. You take somepressure off Munyos, even though the tying
run did come to the plate inthe ninth dinning, but a little bit
of pressures off in that regard, and it's it's really been a fun team
to watch this kind of turnaround. You kind of feel like they're definitely on
the uptick. The problem is,even though Texas is kind of starting to
scuffle a little bit. They're twoand eight in their last ten. They've
lost two in a row. Ofcourse, they are playing a team called
the Phillies. Last I checked, they're good, Yeah, really good,

(01:20:05):
really good. Like I think nowthe best winning percentage in baseball. Yeah
yeah, they're thirty five and fourteen. They get the best record, So
I'll give Texas a wee bit ofa break there. The problem is is
that the Astros are starting to kindof pick things up. They've won seven
of the last ten. They didlose last night, but they are they're
they're kind of climbing back into thisthing. Five I lost today is the

(01:20:28):
Angels. So yeah, yeah,oh that's what they lost to day.
Yeah they lost today, Yeah becausethey played Oakland next coming up on Friday.
So thank you Angels for that one. Okay, Caitlin Clark tonight the
dumbest thing you'll hear today. AndI say that in this sense half of
what you hear is kind of dumb. Maybe it's a wee bit of a
stretch, but that was a reallyinteresting comments. This is from the Lebron

(01:20:48):
James podcast with his new head coach, the potential head coach, JJ Reddick
that he does for the Los AngelesLakers. But here's Lebron talking about Caitlin
Clark and kind of bringing his ownson into the conversation. The one thing
that I love that she's bringing toher sport, more people want to watch,

(01:21:11):
more people want to tune in.Don't get it twisted, don't get
it up. Caitlyn Clark is thereason why a lot of great things is
going to happen for the WNBA.But for her individually, I don't think
she should get involved on nothing that'sbeing said. Just go have fun and
joy, you know. But I'mrude for Caitlin because I've been in that
seat before, I've walked that roadbefore. I hope they I hope she

(01:21:35):
kills I hopefullyah Boston does amazing, you know. I hope they do great.
And I'm just kind of in thismold right now because I'm getting the
same, you know thing from watchingmy son, who was a nineteen year
old, kind of getting a lotof animosity and hatred towards him when he's
just a kid trying to live outhis dream. You know, there's a

(01:21:55):
very small number of men and womenthat actually to live out their dream of
playing the professional sport, and wehave grown as men and women out here
doing whatever they can to try tomake sure that does not happen. That
is the weirdest thing in the world. But it is what it is,
and I'm glad that Caitlin has agreat head on our shoulders. All right,

(01:22:19):
So I said, kind of thehalf dumb part about it is we'll
just and let'sten. Yeah, Yeah, you're talking to me and everybody else,
Lebron. People hating on your kid, I think may he's hating on
Browny. No one hates him nobodyhates bron First of all, nobody knows
Bronni because they protected him at alevel that was unheard of in college.

(01:22:40):
You know, he wasn't able tojust you know, he never spoke to
the media. You know, itwas it was a weird, weird dynamic
they had going on at USC.So people didn't really know him. You
know, they don't know who heis. They've never really heard of him.
They just know he's Lebron's kid.But here's the thing. Kaitlyn Clark
sells tickets. Caitlin Clark is everythinghe said, and there are people hating

(01:23:01):
on her. I understand that.I totally understand that. But the thing
with Caitlin Clark is she is somethingthat Bronnie is not. Bronnie doesn't sell
tickets, Nobody wants to, nobodycares, nobody wants to watch or pay
money to see Bronnie James. He'sjust He's just not a guy that is
moving the needle. He's a Lebron'skid. He's an undersized guard. He

(01:23:24):
is a borderline draft pick. I'mlooking at a mock draft right now in
the place that when I used toalways when we used to cover the NBA.
This is these guys don't have himeven listed. Anders really he was
listed for a while. I'm doublechecking of Jack Zach Edy thirty six.
I'm just looking at guys Tristan Newtonforty one from Yukon, who's a far

(01:23:46):
better player. He's just a senior. Would you take Zach Edi over Bronnie
oh all day? Yeah, noteven. I mean Rhys Beekman from Virginia
is fifty five. I mean he'sa good players, all all all league
players. Yeah, he's not evenlisted right now, like this is now,
this and these are the guys thisNBA draft, dott, I think

(01:24:09):
they do the best job. Histeammate is Isaiah Collier. Yeah he's a
good player. Yeah he's good.I'll take him, take him every day.
But yeah, he's not even listed. I mean the only reason he
gets love is because somebody thinks ifthey take him that maybe Lebron will try
to force his way there. Whichand and here's the thing. Lebron does
sell tickets, he does, andand and Lebron and the part that I

(01:24:30):
really liked what he said though, when he's talking about Catelin Clark, don't
listen to all the people hating outthere, because I do remember when Lebron
came into the NBA and I wasworking in Portland. We were covering the
league then, and when he cameinto the league out of high school,
there were a lot of people doubtinghim his He had a game, one
of his games in towards the endof his high school career was televised on
ESPN. It was a Monday night. It was a huge deal, huge

(01:24:50):
deal, We're watching Lebron. I'mlike, damn, yeah, this guy
is there every bit as good asadvertising. Came into the league, and
he was all that. He wasin incredibly cordial, incredibly easy to deal
with. You know, time, you know, changes things a little bit.
I worked for I voiced I actuallyI voiced a couple of commercials he
was in. I was working inPortland for for Widen and Kennedy. Uh.

(01:25:13):
He did a bunch of stuff whenhe was doing Nike stuff, and
that's Nike's ad agency at least itwas, And we did some we did
some voice work for him, andand I remember talking to when I didn't
get a chance to work with it, I just voiced over the stuff later
and he said, you know, remember talking to people that work with him,
and they said he was the easiestathlete they'd ever worked with. And
it was if you remember the spots, they were the ones where he was

(01:25:34):
like a bunch of Lebron's old manLebron, brother Lebron, remember all those
they're sitting around eating spaghetti, watchingand watching the game. And and so
they said he was incredible to workwith. And that's kind of Caitlyn Clark.
I agree, you know, that'skind of who who and what she
is. So yeah, I reallyagree. I really agree with what you

(01:25:55):
know, kind of what was beingsaid there about Caitlyn Bronni just his he's
got a warp sense of Browny's value. And he's a dad. I get
that. We're all that way. We're probably all guilty that way with our
kids along the way. kJ Simpsonright fifty first, right now from just
keep looking at names above him inthe draft. Well, and that's the
crazy thing about the NBA draft,Like I'm naming all these guys that are

(01:26:17):
that are all league guys, right, Coleman Hawkins from from Illinois, Dante
from Oregon, Like I like him, I don't know about you, right,
that's a dude that is that isa dude. Cam Spencer from Yukon.
I mentioned Tristan Newton as well,Keishaw Johnson from Arizona. I mean
there's a whole bunch of guys inhere that that are just that are they're

(01:26:40):
just better players. Well, there'slots of examples that players that Maut's caravan,
Yeah, that didn't thrive in college, that maybe actually got drafted in
the NBA for whatever reason and theykind of put it all together at the
next level. Do you think Bronnycould be one of those players? Yeah,
I just think he needs another yearin college. Yeah, first of
all, he didn't play a lot. He didn't start most of the time.
He started a hampful, but sothe most part didn't start. And

(01:27:01):
you know, you put up verymeager numbers. And again you're right,
a lot of guys will go tocollege put up nothing numbers of the freshman
year and they come in the NBAand being the flourished later. He's not
going to play in the league nextyear. He play in the G League.
And when people say, you know, like Lebron's like, you know,
guys are hating on him, Well, what people hate on is when
he hears guys like WOJ say, well he's going to sell tickets in the
G League. I'm gonna tell youright now, Caitlin Clark wouldn't sell tickets

(01:27:25):
in the G League. No,nobody sells tickets in the G League.
So he's a little out to lunchthere. I agree. Okay, we'll
take a break, we'll come back. We'll check text four nine four or
five one on the Tulemroo text linewhen his game time. And then Trey
Brown is expected to join us aswell. Right here on ninety three point
three KJRFM, Trey Brown is withit. Can you hear me? Okay?
Yeah, all right, how youdoing doing good? I'm doing good

(01:27:48):
man, happy to be here.Yeah. So listen man, the fourth
year three with pets and that staffyear four? Wow, Like, how
how different is this? Man?What's it been like walking in and you
know, your first phase one ofO t as now you're in phase three.
But what's it like walking in ina new era with Mike mcconnald his
staff. It's just, uh yeah, you could tell us a lot different.

(01:28:11):
You know, two different people. You know, you got somebody who
had tradition and someone who's learning, who's uh, who's new to the game
here as a head coach, andhe's gonna build his own way. And
uh, for what I can tellyou, man, it's just it's been
just I can tell you it's it'sbeen a lot different, for sure.
And people can take that different ways. Some different can be good, different

(01:28:33):
can be hard, it can bechallenging. What are the positive of the
new part? No, it's it'sall good, not negative. I mean,
you know, Mike, he can'the got here, he latest,
latest ground, got straight to it. It's very serious. Yeah, you
know, you see, we're we'repracticing a lot harder, you know.

(01:28:53):
Uh, Pete, you know he'svery calm, you know what I'm saying.
So the days are a lot different. But man, we we we
ept it, you know what I'msaying. And if this is gonna get
better, this is what we're gonnado. We're all bought in trade.
Do you think this was needed? And not to say Pete needed to go,
I don't want to put you inthat position, but do you think
it was a situation where like sometimeslike a new start, a fresh start,

(01:29:14):
or just a new a new voiceis needed, and like you said
a new style way to practice.Do you think that that because there's talent
out there and it just kind offeels like it wasn't you guys weren't reaching
what you needed to reach the lastcouple of years. Yeah, I could
say, I mean change sometimes itis always good, but it can always
be you know, different. Soit's kind of hard to tell, you

(01:29:34):
know, back because we we don'tknow you know what I'm saying, but
it's a different deal. I tellyou it's a fresh start. It's a
you could tell the building is alot different, and uh, for me,
I think you know what I'm saying, it's it's needed if we want
to change and win a championship. You're a serious guy, like like there's
guys will you know, grab asshaving fun messing around out there. Like

(01:29:56):
I've always kind of looked at youand so this this dude is about football
and about business. It feels likethat fits who you are. Yeah,
it does. I mean I'm aguy that also, you know, sometimes
I like to have my fun,but sure I know when the lock in,
you know. And for me comingfrom where I come from, you
know, I always had to workfrom the bottom. I'm always serious out
there and ready to you know whatI'm saying, stack my days. Yeah

(01:30:16):
that makes any sense. It's ait's a Trey Brown joining me. He
in fronunced with you this afternoon wherethe Virginia Mason Athletics and know they just
got back off the field, sofirst our first chance to watch you guys
on the field. He came outand joked, he said that he walked
by asking the media when he firstcame out on the field, Mike McDonald,
and he said, is the musicokay for you guys, because that's
the first thing everybody notices, right, it's and it's it's it's still music,

(01:30:40):
but it's just not as loud. And that's like the first thing a
lot of us notice. And thenlike you said, he's he sat in
that chair you're sitting in. Wehad a chance to talk to him on
the first day I went. Wehad one along with him, and he
came across the seamy very very businesslike like, very business like. How
does that translate into a practice likein terms of how it's run, How
how what the attitude is in practice? How does that translate into a practice.

(01:31:02):
So by him being very business likeit's a standard, you know what
I'm saying, And it's like, you you're gonna get what you put out,
you know what I'm saying. Soif he gives that attitude, he
does this, he does that,I mean, we're gonna reciprocate that same
thing. This is this is business, this is serious. We gotta take
this serious, you know what I'msaying. Yeah, And so that's what
I can say. It is different, you know. You know with Pete,

(01:31:24):
we we we all had fun.You know what I'm saying. A
lot of guys can get lost inthat, you know. Okay, that's
what I felt like. If I'mbeing honest, it's like, and I
covered the team, I'm out there, I see you guys on the road.
It felt like at times, andpart of that comes from internal,
right, like every guy is different, but it did feel like at times,
you guys got a little bit offtrack. Maybe it's the best way
to put Yeah, that's and thatwith Pete you really had to hold yourself

(01:31:45):
accountable man, because he was hewas also serious. But at the same
time, you know, he's afun guy to be around, right,
So it's like, hey, youknow what I'm saying, I gotta realize,
you know what I'm saying, whenI can to when I can't.
So, man, you know,Mike McDonald, he's a very serious guy
and we love them. How how'sAdam fitting who's truely the defensive coordinator because
your head coach is a defensive guy. How does that dynamic work? I

(01:32:05):
think they fit each other perfect. You know they're twins, and that he's
a very serious guy, you knowwhat I'm saying. Yeah, it's also
a little you know what I'm saying. He understands he's a little softwer,
you know what I'm saying. Notsaying that he's a soft person, but
I'm saying, like, you knowwhat I'm saying, he's a good cup
back. He's he's gonna they breakthings down different ways. Sure, I'm

(01:32:26):
saying, Mike McDonald's gonna give itto you and then you know, we
got aid and who's gonna you knowwhat I'm saying, give it to you
a little software, you know whatI'm saying. So it's good to have
the best of both worlds. Likethe accent, is it hard to get
used to? No? Man,hey, man, it's different. I
love it, you know, justjust hearing them talk. You know what
I'm saying. He's a he's areally good guy. They're both good guys.
I looked at the there's and Ialways like bringing these guys up because

(01:32:47):
players take it different ways, likeif you rated how, you love them.
If you're not, you don't likethem. But Pro Football focused did
the thing just we just talked abouta couple weeks ago, and it was
like the top position groups in theNFL, right, and there's two that
jumped out it because it was widereceiver and cornerbacks. And the cornerbacks they
had number one. The Jets.I didn't listen. I love DJ Reid

(01:33:09):
was here with you, right, your rookie year, good player, great
player. But but but he's yourguy, but he's not here anymore because
they had better players and you andothers. Okay, I didn't agree with
that one. I'll say wide receivers. They had Chicago number one. They
got a rookie in that mix.Let me start with with the wide receivers.
You I kind of think unless it'sunless you're the dB for the San

(01:33:30):
Francisco forty nine ers and you gotAyuk and Jennings And who am I missing?
Why am I missing the other guy, Devo and Kittle unless you going
against those guys. Is there agroup of wide receivers that's harder to go
against some practice in the NFL thanTyler, DK and jays N. I
don't me personally, I don't seeit. You know, we go against

(01:33:51):
those guys, you see the proofis that I'm pudding, you know what
I'm saying. We want to getsome top guys, guys who said they
were the best. And you seewhen we're on our we're on top of
our game, you should we godo so. It's like what we're doing
out here is translating. So goingagainst those guys make it week one,
week seventeen a lot easier. Yeah, you know what I mean. You
don't see that on a weekly basisin the NFL, that group. No,

(01:34:12):
I feel like it's very they theykind of disrespected us. But hey,
it's the media, you know whatI'm saying. The media likes to
do things. They're not always righteither, you know what I mean,
I mean not you know what Imean. So, hey, some guys
you know what I'm saying, thatthey don't know well and the cornerbacks.
I bring that up for this Ilove, Like if I'm looking at strengths
of this football team, as youyou know now because you got through the

(01:34:34):
draft, you guys got through freeagency all that stuff, and this is
kind of you're heading into summer. This will be kind of the ninety guys
and show up Trey Brown, DevinWitherspoon, Wreek Walling. Everyone sleeps on
Mike Jackson, who's just a bulldogout there right. Kobe's probably a safety
still, I would guess, butjust that group, like that corner room,

(01:34:54):
you guys got to fit. Howmuch competition is going on daily with
you guys every day you know,we're always striving to get better. You'll
see it's crazy. You'll see someon PFF that have something to come out
where there's Reek who is like oneof the the top man the man guy.
Where you had Spoon who was oneof the top who was one of
the most productives, or I evenseen something with me last week, who

(01:35:15):
was one of the top press pressguys in the league last year. And
then you got Mike jack Man.So everybody, you know, we're all
just it's crazy. You hear allthat who rid Rod, But then when
you look at the stats and everythingyou see. You know, we're always
at the top. You guys areonly as good as the guys around you,
though, as corner as you're onisland a lot of times as well.
This new defensive minded head coach andhis new defensive coordinator, what changes

(01:35:38):
I know you're not gonna get specifics, but what changes do you see?
And how do you think it fitsyour personnel here? It fits? You
know you're installing. Yeah, butit's a lot going on, man,
You're gonna see a lot of We'regonna through a lot of different ways that
you you know, it's not it'snot it's not a uh a one page
book. It's like one hundred pagebook where we could Hey, we can

(01:35:59):
go through so many things where youcould take a game plan for this,
and that's probably not what you're goingto get this week based off of what
you guys do. So just justbeing with those guys, Mike and Ad
many they really know the game. And you see what Mike did with Baltimore,
AD had the defense in Dallas,Man, and it just comes together.
Man, It's gonna work out perfectlywell. And like you said,
everyone's got different strengths like you likethe press, like you get up there

(01:36:24):
in a guy's face right to playoff to them. But I didn't say
you could. I'm not that mediaguy. But that's but I thought one
of the things that Pete, youknow this, I'll go back fourteen years
when you were in middle school, when Pete first got here. Pete had
his ability. I thought to reallykind of take the personnel that he had
and mold the defense around those guys. Brandon Brown is the world's largest corner.

(01:36:45):
He had this dude named Cam Chancellorthat was the world's largest safety.
Red Bryant was like a defensive linemanthat had no fit. He was six
six and three hundred and twenty pounds, but he wasn't an edge rusher.
But he didn't play. But heput all those pieces together, and it
felt like the last few years hekind of got stuck in some ways.
What you're telling me is this isa guy that's flexible. You might be
doing different things week to week, series a series opponent to opponent, just

(01:37:10):
a bigger playbook that maybe fits thestrengths of what you guys have personnel wise.
And the two new safeties Jordan andtwo new guys back there fits kind
of maybe more what you guys cando and fit to the player strengths one
hundred percent. That's that's really whatit is, because you know, some
guys in came but they didn't hadcoaches who this is what we're gonna do,
and that might not be you knowwhat I'm saying, a player strength

(01:37:30):
or a player can't go up thereand impress like how that player is because
we're two different players. You've gota player who's five ten versus a player
who's six five. You know whatI'm saying, Hey, we're not gonna
play the same you know what Imean? But uh, hey, man,
you gotta let these guys because theyknow they know what they're doing.
They play to the strengths. Man, is this first time you've come into
this time of the year really healthy? One hundred percent? This is one

(01:37:53):
hundred percent. Like how much funare you? Like? I just it
seems like every year we've seen youand you've been fighting through stuff and knee
injury here, banged up there.I mean, you've had you've had a
rough goal with the first It feelslike this is the first time you're coming
in this thing in the off season. Just one hundred percent not worried about
rehab at all. It's first timebecause what's crazy is a lot of people
didn't know, like my knee waspartially torn. The knee that I tore

(01:38:15):
was partially torn since I was inhigh school. So I've always dealt with
that injury where something or it wasmyell attendant. Oh wow, So I
couldn't get surgery. The only thingfor me to get surgery was I had
to tear my knee. Really, that was the only way that for me
to ever fix that, you knowwhat I'm saying. So it's kind of
like a blessing in disguise, youknow what I'm saying, because I'm dealing
with something so where I can't evenreach my full potential. And then I

(01:38:39):
go through those things and it's like, Okay, yeah, now I'm going
to go through these things for meto get healthy. And now this is
the first time I've been healthy, and I'm excited, and then the new
changes, everything is just like comingtogether for me. I mean, I
think it's I think if you're aSeahawk fanity, you should be thrilled and
just excited about especially your group.I think that's I don't care what PFF
says. I love DJ Red too. He's one of the best postgame interviews've

(01:38:59):
ever had. I always had tokind of tape it because you know what's
gonna say. You might fly offthe handle a little bit, but that's
okay. But no, I thinkI'm looking through here, you know,
activated from reserve on pup on ir, on ir on ir and here you
are, fourth round draft pick intwenty twenty one. It's your four already.
Man. It's crazy still here, man, and you're still here.
What did you do in the offseason? Do you do any fun? I

(01:39:21):
traveled everywhere? Where'd you go?I went to Tokyo, what I was
in the Bahamas, went snowboarding inColorado. I was in Miami, Fascist
show in New York, you know, I was in La Are you is
that? Is that your thing? You like to travel? I mean,
this is Tokyo to the Bahamas,to New York to Colorado. That's in

(01:39:41):
Miami. Yeah. I tell guyslike, this is really the first time,
you know what I'm saying, I'vebeen in the light. I was
in a dark you know, justrehabbing, so I never really had time
to myself. After all, theseyears of me being in the league,
and this was the first chance Ihad to myself to even do things for
me. So I took advantage ofthat and took a lot of trips.
Man, you mentioned before, theconversation is interesting because I think people,

(01:40:03):
first of all, you guys, you guys do okay financially, so you
have some disposal income. But whatyou're saying is the last few years you
couldn't do any of that because youwere doing it was rehab, rehab and
rehab rehab. And how how doesthat mess with your mind a little bit?
Man? You don't know what's gonnahappen. You know what I'm saying
from from a team standpoint to yourself? Am I gonna come back healthy?

(01:40:28):
Am I gonna be different? Kickyou to the curb tomorrow one hundred percent?
Or was that it for me?For myself of being healthy and who
I am? But I'm not comeback the same because people with my injury,
you know, it's hard to comeback from a put telotenant injury.
I was out for like a yearand a half, you know what I
mean, didn't play my second yearrehab that year, I rehab so much
and it's like, man, what'sgonna happen? You know what I'm saying.

(01:40:49):
We got two really good corners infront of me, you know,
So for me to go in thereand just cut everything out and just have
faith in myself and carve out away. Man, that just shows you what
type of player I am. Well, and I'm glad you got a chance
to actually enjoy being an NFL playerin an offseason. That's that's I mean,
that's I mean, that's you guyswork your tails off. I don't

(01:41:10):
think people understand that. But whenyou're going through rehab, you can't travel.
You can't, you know, especiallyafter surgery, can't a week your
your rehabit. Even when you're offseason, your rehabit five days a week,
so you get a weekend your subject. How clear is your mind?
Then coming into the season, yougot to like, I have a whole
different mindset just in terms of likeyou probably feel refreshed as opposed to exhausted.
And then just having the confidence ofwhat I did last year, you

(01:41:30):
know, going through what I wentthrough and then just doing what I did
last year as a player, andthen just like hey it's time for me
to stack I'm I'm really confident toknow what I can do. I'm I
like going to Detroit and covering gamesbecause I like Greek Town and they got
a restaurant They're called, wait forit, the Greek and it's and it's
my favor one of my favorite restaurantson the road when we cover games.

(01:41:53):
Shocked to know that I like food. But as I as I go there,
I'm like, I love going toDetroit. We're back there again this
year. You're probably more excited togo to Detroit and anybody because if people
forget one of the big plays lastseason, this guy had a pick six
forty yards for a touchdown. Ahthat Hey, when you're going into the
end zone, did you think aboutall that rehab and all that stuff paying
off? I thought about so much, you know what I'm saying, Because
what's crazy. You know, I'ma guy who's very aware and understand my

(01:42:15):
faults and everything. So the weekbefore I really didn't really didn't play to
myself, you know what I mean. It's the first time I played in
so long, didn't play the yearbefore, and I really didn't have the
game that I wanted to have, and so for everything to play out like
it did, you know, bythe grace of guy, you know,
just sorry for reek that happened aweek at that time. You know,

(01:42:39):
I was able to have another anotherchance, you know, and went out
there and had one of the biggestgames. What I had a forced fumble,
sack and then a pick six rightbefore that. That play was just
like, man, you know whatI'm saying, keep your faith strong.
You don't know what can happen. And then you know that I got hurt
the next week. Then the weekI came back, I had to pick
against ja Mar Chase and then hadlike a p you to give the ball

(01:43:01):
back to help us get a chanceto win. And it was just like
hey, like it is here, you know, and that it was crazy.
That was the That game that Ihad against the Bengals was the same
day that my mom passed away.So it was like you can't, you
can't, you can't do nothing butsay, oh, this is God,
you know what I mean. Well, condolences on that. I hope you
and your family are doing and havefound peace along the way with that stuff.
I appreciate you coming on. Ithink Sea fans love hearing your story.

(01:43:25):
And you know, a guy thatthat we can root for here in
Seattle and certainly worth rooting for andpart of, for my money, the
best position group with that position inthe NFL when we go through all those
guys. But I appreciate coming on, have a great rest of your off
season, as Trey Brown will takea quick break, come back with more
