(00:00):
This is the Kelly Golden Show podcastpowered by Disaster Plus on a Big Fail
Friday. It's a complicated conflict, but what's not complicated is what we saw
over the weekend, when babies arebeing shot in their bed, when children
are being abducted out of their homes. There's nothing complicated about the terrorism.
Terrorism is terrorism, doesn't matter whatfront it's on. Four corners of law,
(00:23):
filled with Israelian US flags, Charlestonstands with Israel rally, happy to
see the Holy City on the rightside of history. The Big fail this
week, no doubt would be thereshould be no gray area about condemning hamas
and terrorist attacks that we have seenunfold on Israeli citizens. Sitting down with
(00:45):
two men there at the rally,State Representative Matt Lieber will talk to you
here coming up. I know yousaid it was one of the most incredible
rallies you've ever been to. Alsogram Horsemen, former IDF Israeli Defense Force
with State Representative Matt liber actually ascampaign manager. We'll get into here coming
up, working to protect our twoA rights at Charleston Parks. Graham curious
(01:07):
about your background and what your thoughtsare currently of what's going on right now.
Being former IDF, sure, Kelly, and thanks for having me so.
I served in account of terrorism inthe Israeli Defense Forces from twenty seventeen
to twenty nineteen. And you know, needless to say, this is really
just a tragic situation. And youknow, I'm thinking of my family and
(01:32):
my friends who are in Israel,my friends who've been called up to the
reserves, my cousin who's in who'sin the army right now, and and
all of them heading to Gaza. And so please keep them in your in
your prayers. Above all, thisis a you know, spiritual, spiritual
battle, so so please keep themall in your in your prayers. And
I think you know this is thisis the worst, the worst thing that's
(01:53):
happened to the Jewish people since sincethe Holocaust. And you know, the
world is watching, Europe is watching, the United States as watching. People
are understanding finally that borders are important, that you know, do we have
to take decisive steps to protect ourselves. And so you know, if I
have one ask of you, it'sto keep uh, to keep that in
(02:13):
your thoughts in the coming weeks andmonths when Israel has to respond decisively and
unfortunately, in war sometimes there's collateralinjuries, but the alternative is what you've
seen these past couple of days.So so you know, if everyone could
just you know, keep that inmind, that's I weld really, you
know, appreciate that absolutely. Ihope that your family and friends not only
(02:36):
in our prayers, but that they'reokay. The videos that continue to come
out, the stories. Is thereanything that you want to share personally being
here fighting for our Second Amendment rights, Well, it's difficult to watch,
you know, watch this unfold fromfrom abroad. And something that I can't
get off my mind is that, you know, we've been told here in
the United States, and we've beentold in Europe for for decades that we
(02:58):
have to accept you know, millionsupon millions of fighting age males from these
countries who are you know, quoteunquote refugees from war. And you know
what we're seeing right now is we'reseeing thousands of Israelis, thousands of young
Jewish men and women from all overthe world who are flying back to Israel.
They can't keep up, the airlinescan't keep up. You know,
(03:21):
they're chartering flights seven seven sevens fromLos Angeles, from Miami to bring volunteers
back to Israel. You know, everyone's very very supportive of what's going on
over there. To tie that backinto the Second Amendment here in Charleston County
is if you follow the news inIsrael, and if you follow what happens
when there's terrorist attacks, very oftenyou'll see that you'll read in the news
(03:42):
that it was stopped by an armedcivilian or it was it was stopped by
an off duty police officer, offduty soldier who was carrying a rifle or
a handgun. And you know, people when we you know, in the
United States, we don't necessarily livein that society where there's a heightened security
stunt. But in Israel, it'sso often that that armed civilians, you
know, stop terrorist attacks. Andthat's what happened in several instances that you
(04:04):
know, reports that were getting outof certain villages in the south of Israel
where the community organized, where theyhanded out rifles and where you had community
members take positions and were able topush back terrorists. There's one key boots
in the south of Israel that wasthat was able to do that, and
one of the other one of theother villages were practically everyone was murdered.
(04:26):
There were a couple of survivors inone home who you know, had rifles,
who I believe off duty soldiers orjust members of the community and were
able to push terrorists back using usingrifles. And so you know, if
anyone is wondering why why you mightneed an AR fifteen, well, this
is why you might need an ARfifteen. So I just want to make
(04:46):
it clear. Here is a formerIsraeli Defense Force, Graham Horseman, standing
up in Charleston County with state RepresentativeMatt leeber Now as campaign manager for our
two A rights to count here inSouth Carolina and Charleston Parks specifically this battle
we're going to talk about here comingup with constitutional carry. Where we are
(05:08):
on that with Matt, But isthere anything else that you want to add
as we move forward? I meanto have our vice president here in town
talking about gun violence to young peoplewhen there are young people at a concert,
a gun free zone and a veryopen field that were just slaughtered.
Your response to that so that people, because we're losing our youth with this
doctrination. That's why I support RepresentativeLeaver. He was the only elected official,
(05:31):
practically the only elected official who jumpedin immediately and identified it, you
know, and recognized and have thepresence of mind to recognize that the firearm
ban, just this unilateral ban onfirearms and county parks was not only wrong
from you know, a Second Amendmentperspective, but you know, just a
blatant violation of South Carolina state law. Local government cannot regulate the carry of
(05:58):
firearms, and that's just what theydid. And it's just so sad and
so tragic that we needed a lawsuit, that we needed to put this level
of pressure on local government in orderto get them to follow the law.
And so for anyone who's watching currentevents, it's blatantly clear how important the
Second Amendment it is and what thealternative is. And so, you know,
I'm really glad that Matt was ableto affect some change, that we
(06:21):
were able to affect some change inCharleston County. And like I told Matt,
there's not many politicians who can reallypoint to something so concrete and so
drastics that they were able to doin their community. You know, Matt
was able to fight for the SecondAmendment and was able to really just shine
light on this issue all the wayup to the Governor's office. And so
for that, I think I'm appreciativeof it, and I know that there
(06:43):
are hundreds and thousands of Charlson Countyresidents who certainly are as well. I
can't think of a more perfect team. A paratrooper former IDF. What a
great person to have on your team, Matt Leeber. Yeah, I mean,
that guy's exceptional in every way. He's working very hard for us.
I think his message is so poignantright now with what happened has happened in
(07:06):
Israel and the fact that just youknow, just a couple of months ago,
he and I really spearheaded this fightto restore Second Amendment rights to Charleston
County residents at our parks that weredenied them by you know, six unelected
bureaucrats. And it was a multipronged a fight where he had a lawsuit
going and I was working their budget. I cut a lot of their money
(07:30):
away. I talked to the governorabout the problem and convinced him to put
four of their nominees on hold, and just pressure, pressure, pressure,
and he and I had an extensiveplan that you know, we had ten
more steps that we were going touse, but they folded because you know,
we were right. We told thetruth. Folks in Charleson County should
(07:51):
be able to have their second amendentrights in the parks. We're talking about,
you know, being on the wallfor miles and on these trails,
and and you know, you youngmother or an eldly woman that has a
conceiled carry permit would not be ableto carry, and then she would be
out of sort of shouting distance fromany help. That's illogical to me,
and it was to Graham. Andthat's how we sort of got together,
(08:13):
became good friends. Already I'm sortof a mentor to him at this point
in American politics, and I said, you know, I've got to hire
and pay a good campaign manager. And you were night f I was a
parachief. We have so much incommon and we believe the same things.
Let's team up and let's go aheadand do some more good. I want
to know where we are with constitutionalcarry in South Carolina. So we had
(08:37):
a vigorous fight in the House tomake sure that that bill did not lose
its teeth, and it was pasted. It is a constitutional carry without having
to have permission from the government toexercise your Second Amendment rights. I worked
with represent Bobby Cox, he wasthe main drafter of the bill, he
was a second sponsor, and Iworked the front of the room as a
whip, working with him to makesure we didn't lose any votes. And
(09:00):
we explained our thinking in the bill, the local law enforcement and state wide
law enforcement. We're behind the billthis time. It had influence in there
where we would be using federal statutescomparably to upgrade the state statue so that
well, a violent felon was inpossession of a firearm, that they would
be adequately sentenced and punished for thatcrime. And so it was just a
(09:24):
great bill and we passed it outof the House, all Republicans voting for
it, and it's now sitting inthe Senate. It's been sitting there for
way too long. The Senate isup for re election in Jane, you
know, in June for their primaryand November twenty four, so we suspect
that they're going to pass it becausethey have to pretend to be conservatives in
an election year, and so wehave hope. So speaking of the Senate,
(09:46):
I'm curious since you have announced yourSenate run for Sandy Sin's seat.
We say it Sandy sin seat,it's our seat exactly, It's we the
people's seat. And is there anyidea how she would even vote for that.
Well, look at the past.In twenty twenty one, when they
had the Open Carry with Training Act, she was the only Republican in either
(10:07):
chamber to vote against it. Soshe is clearly against your Second Amendment rights.
But there's so many other bills thatshe has stood against the conservative agenda
and fought against these bills. Shewas against the pro life bill, the
heartbeat bill. She went on CNNand bragged about it, you know,
told all the male legislators that theywere just misogynistic and all these sort of
(10:28):
things. She raised your gas taxes. She's done so many things that Republicans
should not do. I don't thinkshe's read the Republican platform, so I
don't have any hope that she's goingto vote for this thing in January.
In fact, she's probably going tofight against it. So it's coming back
up in January, you have peoplegoing back to the polls to decide that
seat. By November, of course, we were primary now the primary June
(10:50):
eleventh, and then the general actionwill be November of twenty four It's not
only two A and babies, it'sthe bars. She's on the wrong side
of these small businesses and even thesenonprofits that are vfw's and American legions that
have bars, their insurance rates skyrocketing. And it's not just our small business
owners and our legions and vfws thatare being affected by these skyrocketing insurance rates
(11:15):
and this garbage legislation. This isgoing to affect homeowners and insurance. It
was definitely a sloppy piece of legislationback in twenty seventeen that she voted for
and heralded. She was at thepress conference bragging about its passing. It
really hamstrungs the small businesses, thepubs, the local vfws that have their
(11:35):
watering holes, that all of thesevets coming back from Afghanistan and Iraq past
wars are going there for fellowship. And now because of this liability in terms
of one million dollars per business, which can be used in lawsuits, and
that sort of helps the lawyer industry, which she is an attorney, I
(11:58):
think is RepA. I think that'sa big problem. I don't want my
local VFWS shutting down because I can'tafford the premium for this insurance that used
to be like fifteen thousand dollars ayear and it's now like one hundred and
fifty thousand dollars a year. Andwe only have two insurance companies that are
willing even write these now. Youknow, we had the case with the
Murdoch where Parks paid out twenty someyou know, million dollars because they sold
(12:22):
a twelve pack of beer. We'vejust gone too far with this and it's
causing insurance crises all over. Youknow, Florida went this way and it
went bad. Hoa's your primums aregoing to go up, which means your
your annual dues are going to goup. So it was just a softy
piece of legislation with unintended consequences andyou know, Attorney's benefit off of it.
(12:43):
So I want to do some reformin this area for sure. For
the people who say you just gotto the state House and did so successfully
flipping a historically blue seat red,why jump over to the Senate now?
Why go after a Republican and nota Democrat? Sure. You know,
when I got into public life,I did not want to go and pick
(13:07):
on a Republican who was, youknow, ten percent less conservative to me
than me. I went and founda Democrat to pick on. I went
and found a seat that had beenhistorically blue since reconstruction, and I knew
I could win it with hard work. We knocked on twelve thousand dollors.
We've raised over one hundred and fiftythousand dollars, is a massive support.
I hit the ground running a JudiciaryCommittee freshman Caucus chair, which is a
(13:33):
really big deal, a whip inthe House, and I love being in
the House, I truly do.But we are in a super majority.
We have eighty eight of us.Signs are that we're going to keep this
majority and probably the supermajority. Andthrough the pro life debate that we had
and her actions on the chamber ofthe Senate floor and how she does not
(13:54):
represent low country values, you know, I became quite a where the duty
was calling me it is more importantthat I would take a progressive Republican off
the chess board, so that becauseshe is able to stop conservative the conservative
agenda nearly single handedly, it's moreimportant that I take her off the chess
(14:15):
board, go and take that seatas a conservative than it is to be
one of eighty eight in the supermajority. And I am not abandoning the House
seat. I have a good guythat's going to step in there, and
we're going to keep both seats. But it is ultra important to the entire
Low Country, to the entire Statethat we take this progressive CNN contributor out
of office and reclaim that seat forthe conservative movement. I do think people
(14:37):
understand the legislative process. What isthe make of you say supermajority in the
House when it comes to conservatives andRepublicans, But what's going on the Senate
that she wields this much power.Well, the thing is that the Senate
does come with special rules. Theyhave nearly a filibuster rule, where you
know, I've heard it described asa senator puts their hand on a piece
of legislation and says, you know, this is not moving forward. And
(14:58):
the only way they can move itforward is what's called a special order,
and that means you have to havetwo thirds of the Senate to support bringing
that off the table and actually bringit to the floor and debating and attempting
to pass it. Now, thething is when a Democrat uses this special
sort of power that the Republicans usuallyunite and defeat it with their super majority
(15:20):
of voting ability. The problem isit becomes problematic when sort of Sandy Sin
jumps in and puts her hand ontwo a piece of legislation or pro life
piece of legislation. What will happenis the Democrats will unite behind her,
and then the Republicans struggle to beable to get to that two thirds majority.
So you know, we in theHouse often say it's a Senate where
(15:43):
it goes to die. It alwaysgoes to die in the Senate, and
it's because of these special rules. So you know, if I take this
seat and go sit in the backbench and vote the right way and be
a conservative, I've done more forthe state of South Carolina. Then it's
almost indescribable because I'm not going toblock these conservative pieces of legislation when they
(16:03):
come over, and I'm going tojoin the Republicans to fight anyone that tries
to block this piece of legislation. You're gonna have one last person in there,
because you've got about three right nowthat attempt to do this over and
over, you have one last personin there doing that, you're going to
You're gonna gain a person that's fightingagainst this sort of thing. So it's
ultra important for the low Country. It's important for the state. It's more
important for me to take this fighton, to accept this call of duty
(16:27):
because I know I can beat her. The Low Country knows that I can
beat her because of how I workso hard for it and the fact that
I have the support that I have. Now this has to happen. I'm
the one that can beat her,and I need the support from the Low
Country, and we're gonna have it. We're going to pull this off well.
And I know that you support groupslike Moms for Liberty. Quite recently,
(16:48):
at a delegation meeting with regards tothe drama that continues to unfold with
the Charleston School Board and the superintendent'sinvestigation, y'all sat side by side,
and I sat there and watch herput and it was a very upsetting to
me, woman to woman, frankly, to see her put people in such
a caustic crowd like Terrewood for Momsfor Liberty, Safety and others that were
(17:11):
there at risk to stand up andliterally whip up a crowd and chied this
group that she's not once I don'tthink come out publicly supporting, which you
are the complete opposite. You supportmoms for liberty as a father of two,
you know, listen, I wasshocked simply her behavior. Anybody's safety,
you know, in such times likethis. Yeah, that was sort
(17:33):
of a malice struggle session if youlook that up. I mean they used
to put these orchestrated events together toshame people and to convince them that they
needed to adopt the communist value systemand all that sort of thing. And
that's what that felt like. Everybodyin that room, save about two or
three people were from the far leftthat believed in all these sort of far
(17:55):
left philosophy on educating children, andwe don't believe in those things. But
every time they spoke, Senator senwas there ready to clap and cheer them
on taking videos. You know. When Representive Spencer's daughter spoke, she made
sure she got behind Representive Spencer toget her in the foreground so she could
(18:15):
video it for her. I'm sureshe sent it to her. I'm like,
what team are you on here? You're part of the show here,
You're part of this kangaroo court. And the Republicans committed to being there because
we care about parents and children. We wanted to make sure everybody knew we
were there and we were engaged.Who were going to engage in this sort
of this kangaroo atmosphere of being chastised. I mean, they get their pastors
(18:37):
and everybody go in there and tellus that we're racists and all these things.
Just because you disagree with me doesnot mean that I am instantly a
racist. It's insane, it isIt's my brule. She literally said,
would you if you support Moms forLiberty, would you please stand up?
And I don't you know she hadbeen there for the hour and a half
that we had already been there. She knew who the people were that were
(19:00):
there. She knew how they feltand how passionate they were about their philosophy.
There. I don't know what shethought that was going to accomplish,
or why she didn't think that itcould be dangerous. Three people in that
room, surrounded by hundreds of peoplethat vastly disagree with one another. It
was pitting one another against each other, and there was a weaker element there.
(19:22):
And I looked at the chairman ofa meetlate and said, this is
dangerous. We need to move onquickly. Completely unnecessary and unsafe in a
lot of other things, and theidea that she voted on the wrong side
of the bars. Our mom andpops are shuddering with Biden inflation and everything
else post COVID, and to hamstringthem with legislation like this as pro attorneys,
(19:44):
an anti small business, and franklyour veterans organizations with arch it's going
to hit all of us because ifyou're in n HOA, there's horror stories
of your annual dudes doubling or triplingbecause to cover this insurance premium price.
That's not good for South Carolina,it's not good for the local. So
you're out early, letting her knowand others that you're coming for that seat.
(20:04):
Yeah, this is just my styleto get out early. You know,
this is a cultural battle. It'sa cultural fight that we have.
I mean, the Low Country valuesare what they are. We are a
conservative area. We're trending more conservativeyear in and year out, and I
will fight for our values. Iwill fight for conservatism and to have somebody
sitting in this seat who is theopposite. That's sort of my problem right
(20:25):
now is not enough people have beenexposed to sandysin of how she carries herself
and what she believes in. Wemight as well have a Democrat in this
seat. We might as well. This is a red seat. It's plus
twelve red points to us. Thisis our seat, and we need to
take it back. The conservative lowcountry values need to be fought for.
And I'm the man to do that. I'm the guy that's going to take
(20:48):
this seat, get delivered it backto the people, and go up there
and fight for our values. Somy website is vote liiber dot com.
We have an event coming up atthe end of October. It's sort of
a garden party and the and sowe're gonna start raising some big bucks at
that. We need that. Weyou know, she's gonna have a lot
of out of state money, she'sgonna have a lot of pro choice money,
anti Second Amendment money. So Idon't need to raise as much as
(21:10):
she does because at some point herspeaking just helps me. But I do
need to raise enough to get mymessage out. It's from the coast all
the way to I ninety five. All those folks need to hear what my
positions are, and they need tohear the history of Senator sin and how
she is misrepresented the Republican Party.Yeah, she rejects the Republican platform.
Folks need to hear that I needthe help that I can spread this message
(21:33):
from the coast to I ninety five. This Big Fail Friday edition of The
