(00:00):
Hello, friend, Welcome to theThought Shower. Intern John is my name,
and boy oh boy went back tolike the fifties. Boy oh boy,
I am a story for you.I'm excited. This weekend is gonna
be in Sandy. So my familyis in the Nashville area, which it's

(00:24):
been kind of a crazy thing tosee how big Nashville's gotten. They moved
down right during the pandemic and soyeah, early twenty twenty, I think,
And so I had to drive downthe first couple of times, like
eight hour drive, and I soonrealized that the drive not really worth it,

(00:46):
especially for like a weekend getaway,Like you're if I left after the
show, you know, get thereat like seven or eight, Guy,
I'll leave Sunday early. Not reallyworth it. And it's crazy to see
how much the city's has grown infour years, Like it's just gotten massively
big. It's a fun town too, and it's nice because I feel like

(01:06):
it's finally starting to to realize it'sbig. That makes sense, Like the
airport was like really small, it'sgetting big. Whatever. Anyway, I
was gonna go down for like Easterweekend, see my parents, see my
family, but then I was like, you know what, that's spring break
ish and it's gonna be stupid forflights. Stupid. Turns out was going

(01:29):
this weekend. The reason I'm reallyexcited, I have a lot of radio
friends in Nashville, Like Nashville isa pretty cool radio town as far as
there's a lot of younger people therewho also live in the same general area,
Like we don't really have that inDC if there's not a live young
gersh people who go out and likehang. Obviously our show does, but

(01:53):
other than that, not really. So I'm excited because I've trolled our good
friend Ricky for years about how weonly go to one bar and it's just
like, no, it's like afranchise bar tin roof, and so she's
made a full itinerary of places herand my other radio buddy Ryan It's mother
radio people are going this weekend.I'm excited. I forgot that's Saint Patti's

(02:15):
weekend too, so it's gonna beuh, extra, extra, extra extra.
So that's gonna be a fun bringingShowy down, which is exciting.
He'll get a chance to go outsideand go to Grandma and Grandpa's. It's
funny because at my parents' house. They have two levels. The guest rooms
are upstairs. I talked about thislast podcast. I believe I can't sleep

(02:38):
in, Like for me, sleepingin is like six or seven, which
is like to be fair in extrafour hours. Today I was up at
two fifteen. So when I getup to like, you know, start
moving, Suie walks down the stairsand then goes right to my parents room.
And he is a master at wedginghis face and doors to open him
so he can go get attention thatway. It's the same with parents are

(03:00):
here, Like when I get forwork, he'll get up and walk over
to their room and push his wayin because he's like, all right,
I've gotten my attention limit here,It's time to get it elsewhere. I
don't know where he gets that from, you know, I really don't.
But I'm excited for this weekend. If you're not falling along on the Instagram
at intern John Radio Man, ILove is Blind was big this week.

(03:24):
I don't want to give any spoilersaway. It was funny. I have
had a bunch of text come ofthe show about how I should have auditioned
and at the time, because thereis a DC season which I believe is
probably filmed already. I was ina relationship, so that wouldn't have worked,
although based on this season, thereare people already in relationships. I

(03:46):
have two interesting things though. Ihave a friend in Minnesota who I don't
know where she auditioned for, butshe had auditioned, I guess, gotten
pretty far into it, and theproducers were like, hey, like,
you're great, we just don't haveanybody for you that we think would be
a match, so you're not gonnaget through, which I will say,

(04:08):
at least that gives you hope thatthey are kind of trying to find matches,
you know. That's the one thingI'd like to know with Love is
Blind is how long it takes andhow long the conversations actually are on the
pods. That's another story. Myother story, though a lot of stories,
is I know somebody who the producersreached out to them on LinkedIn to

(04:30):
be on this the DC season, and this guy is married with children.
But I guess they're having a hardtime finding dudes to be on the show,
and so they did that way.I don't know if I want to
be on it. I don't becausethe think of the way the way they
chop things up. And that's partof the reason when I was doing The

(04:53):
Bachelor on stage during the Pandemic. Before Pandemic, the Bachelor was doing like
a tour, like a live tours. Ben Higgins and Beckhea were gonna be
hosting it, and I was chosento be the Bachelor in Baltimore, and
the week of the show, Pandemicgot canceled. Whatever probably a good thing

(05:13):
in hindsight. I was getting reallyanxious leading up to the actual event for
a couple of reasons. Number onewas I don't like making people feel bad.
I don't like hurting people's feelings.And I think, like, because
the idea was it was I thinkfifteen women who had signed up to try
and date me, we're gonna viefor my affection. Having to send quote

(05:34):
unquote fourteen people home would have sucked, Like I wouldn't have been good at
that. But also they had thefantasy suite, and so I was talking
to Ben Higgins flex and he waslike, yeah, like, we have
a fantasy suite. We've had peoplemake out on stage, and I was
like, I'm not gonna do thateither. I don't want to do that.

(05:54):
So in hindsight, probably a goodthing didn't happen. It'd be interesting.
I guess. I think i'd likeit better because that there's rumors that,
like you had to go to thealtar. If the wedding's a fake
thing, then I probably would.But I would say there's a there's a
zero percent chance that I would goon that show find love right away and
then like propose without the meeting myparents. My mom gives me enough crap

(06:18):
as it is that that'd be ahard one to float on by, you
know what I'm saying. Anyway,I want to get to this too real
quick for your Friday. How tohandle haters? Mmm mmm mmm mmm mmmm.
It's funny. I talked to thekids I coach, high school kids
I coach about this and how often, you know, like a hockey like,

(06:41):
it's usually the lesser talented players whowill talk trash. It's the lesser
talented players who will talk trash becausethey know the only way they can compete
and keep up with you is toget you off your game. If they
can make you retaliate to something theysay or do. Okay, it's sneeze
hold on, brust me. Ohman, if they can make your you

(07:03):
retaliate They've won, and I've toldthem, like, man, if I
let everybody in my comments or DMSwho says a mean thing get to me,
I go crazy. Now Luckily Idon't really get bad comments, which
is great, and anytime there isone, I just kind of look and
go, Okay. This person eitherhas a lot of pain they're dealing with,

(07:26):
or they just have no idea whoI am, or both, because
a lot of times like the commentdoesn't quite add up to the situation,
if that makes sense. They talkeda couple of psychologists about this. The
first thing they say is, rememberit's all about them, not you.
Yeah, they say, a personwho is basically putting out negativity in the
world is likely struggling with their owninsecurities or unhappiness. One hundred percent.

(07:49):
Get so that they were happy, they wouldn't have time to worry about.
You couldn't agree more, don't engage. I think that's fair. They say.
Haters thrive on get a reaction, which is why they push your buttons.
Arguing explain yourself or trying to winthem over just fee just feels the
fire. I saw this video onTikTok, and I think it was a
parody. But this guy who runsa troll farm online where he just makes

(08:15):
accounts just to fight with people onthe internet, and that was kind of
like his mo one hundred percent.I think like when you try to go
back with somebody back and forth,a lot of people just kind of like
the thrill of talking trash. You'rebetter off arguing with the wall, you
know what I mean. Next thingthey say is take the high road.
I tend to try go that.I think when I was like younger,

(08:37):
younger, I would like try tofight every battle, and now it's just
kind of like it's not even worthmy time, my peace, whatever you
want to say, Block and deletewith glee. Yes, your online spaces
are yours, se curate and enjoyas you want. Don't waste the mental
energy controls and toxic people. Yeah, I mean that's pretty self explained.

(09:00):
Or I think the blocking things oneof the greatest things in the world.
Focus on your real supporters. Forevery hater, there's likely dozens of people
who genuinely like you and support whatyou do. A little bit easier I
think for me to remember that, just because of like the show and you
guys are awesome. But yeah,I think that makes sense. Use the
hate as fuel. Lord knows Ihave done this the last couple years.

(09:24):
I guess it's kind of my mottoprobably most of my adult life. That
was why the weekend song Starboy becamekind of like my m O if you
will. And I think that songto me was still is pretty deep.
I mean the first line of thatsong, he's like, I'm trying to
put you in the worst mood, like coming out and saying like, hey,

(09:46):
hater, I'm trying to put youin the worst mood. Then he
goes on to say, you know, look what you've done. I'm a
starboy, almost like saying to thehater, all the hate that you sent
my way, all the time hetried to hold me back, all the
times he tried to impede my success. You made me have to work harder,

(10:07):
harder than I should have. Andbecause of that, I'm a bigger
star than I should be. Andit's all because of you. Hating that
to me is one of the greatest. Like whoever that song's about, they
got to hear and go, ah, screw that one up. You know
what I mean? Oh, it'sso good because I think the it's like

(10:28):
the best revenge you can get somebody'ssuccess because they can't take success away from
you. I think that's like trurewords never been said. If you get
success, what can somebody say toyou? Nothing? Nothing, nothing,
nothing. I'll do a couple more. Find the positive spincher, say,
maybe the hater points out legitimate weaknesshe can improve upon. It sinks,

(10:50):
but take a step back and askif there's a nugget of constructive criticism on
board. Yeah, you know,I was trying to think of like the
most random. It hates a strongword. I legitimly think that anytime somebody
doesn't like me, they just don'tknow me. And maybe that's bias or
pampus like I was. I thinkI was talking to Rose on the show.

(11:11):
I call her kid, and Idon't I call anybody that I care
about like kid like, you're rightkid looking out kid like. I think
it's like a meant to be likea nursery and protective thing. And somebody
went off in text about how itwas demeaning and I was like, I
don't know what you know about me. I was like, Rose is basically
my little sister. I would nevertalk down to her, first of all,

(11:35):
that wouldn't go well. But it'sjust kind of an odd like okay,
so they must have something going onin their lives where like, I
gotta get this out now. Butyeah, that to me is probably the
most at least I can think ofthe top of my head. But otherwise,
y'all love me, you know, and I listen, I get it.
I mean, how could you not? You know, I appreciate you
