(00:00):
Hey, it's Jennifer Jones Lee.You're listening to KFI, a M six
forty wake up call on demand onthe iHeartRadio app. You are halfway to
the weekend already. Here's Jennifer JonesLee with your Wednesday morning wake up call.
You ever have one of those morningswhere you wake up, alarm goes
(00:24):
off and nobody in the bed moves. Now, when I say nobody,
I mean me and three dogs.Normally the alarm goes off and they're like,
whoa, what time to get outsideand go take care of some business.
And this morning the alarm went off, nothing nobody including me moved.
(00:48):
It's like, you know what,I'm gonna hit snooze, granded. My
snooze is three minutes. Three minuteslater, it goes off, still no
movement. I'm doing it again.Hit it one more time, three more
minute. Finally on the third one, and I really think it's only because
probably a curse word came out ofmy mouth that finally the dogs were like,
(01:10):
yeah, yeah, it's Blair.Yeah, I We'll get up.
Would you ever have one of thosemornings where it's pulled outside it's little drizzly.
I was talking with producer Anne andTyler and how good it feels to
be in the bed and you're like, oh god, I don't want to
get up. But then when announcerGuy says you're halfway through the work week,
I'm like, all right, youknow what that just means that sleep
(01:30):
time. We'll be here in justtwo days and I'm so happy for it.
I've got vacation coming up. Tellyou a little more about that.
Jason Middleton's gonna start Friday for meand all next week. But I'll tell
you what my shenanigans are going tobe. Well, it's gonna be fun.
You guys. I invite you tocome if you want to make the
(01:51):
road trip. So that's all straightahead. Also coming up on your wake
up call, hospitals are preparing forthe crush of migrants expected across the California
Mexico border this week. Now,we're going to talk with ABC's Jim Ryan
because we've already got troops headed tothe border. We'll talk about what their
actual role will be and who allis there. California Democratic Senator Diane Feinstein
(02:15):
has returned to Washington, DC aftera nearly three month absence because of shingles,
and I don't. I've saw Robertde Niro yesterday on TV. Tyler
says, oh, hey, lookthere he is. I looked down.
I was like, oh, allright, Robert de Niro, and in
my mind I thought, how oldis that guy? Just out of curiosity.
(02:35):
Then the news this morning actor Robertde Niro is seventy nine years old
and he's a dad again. Coolor bit creepy? I ask you.
You can hit me up on Twitter, JJLKFI. But let's get into some
of these stories coming out of theKFI twenty four hour newsroom. Hospitals are
preparing for the crush of migrants expectedto cross the California Mexico border this week
(02:59):
as Health Order Title forty two expires. Officials with Customs and Border Protections say
they are ready to handle the tensof thousands of migrants who will most likely
claim asylum status. Most of thosewho tried to cross the California Mexico border
have been waiting in Mexico for months. Texas and Arizona have begun deploying National
Guard troops in addition to the federaltroops that arrived this week. My estimation
of what's happening in California is abit of a wait and see. A
(03:21):
pro immigration expert Elaine Wood told Foxfive San Diego she expects border states to
declare states of emergency to get morefederal aid. Steve Corregory, King of
a News and again, we'll talkwith Jim Ryan about the role of those
troops specifically at the border, andwe'll do that in about two minutes from
now. Former President Trump says hewill appeal the verdict from a jury in
New York City that found him liablefor sexually abusing writer E Jean Carroll in
(03:46):
the nineteen nineties. The verdict isa disgrace, a continuation of the greatest
witch hunt of all time. Trumpposted his reaction on the Truth social platform
yesterday just after the jury rejected Carol'srape claim but found Trump liable for battery
and defamation. Carol was awarded atleast five million dollars and I saw I
(04:09):
think it came across breaking news thismorning from NBC that Ejing Carol did an
interview with The Today's Show. Whenshe walked out of the courtroom yesterday,
she said nothing, but then thismorning on the Today Show she said that
she is overwhelmed with joy or womenacross America after yesterday's verdict. Now,
former President Trump is going back toCNN for a town hall in New Hampshire.
(04:32):
It's tonight and it's being held justa day after he was found liable
for sexually abusing Ejing. Carol Willietalk about it tonight. Come on now,
you know he will. He can'tresist, which makes if you like
the guy, if you don't likethe guy, it doesn't matter. The
entertainment factor. Oh my gosh,I can't wait to watch it. Law
(04:56):
enforcement agencies throughout southern California have announcedfederal final cases targeting fentinyl trafficking. Authorities
say over sixteen hundred people died fromfentinyl poisoning in La County in twenty twenty
one. The LA Drug Enforcement Agencies. Bill Bodner says the two driving forces
behind fentinyl caused deaths in the USour accessibility and deception. Today, social
(05:16):
media platforms have taken on the roleof last mile delivery for both the Cineloa
cartel and the Jalisco New Generation cartel. Authorities said yesterday they have filed sixty
two cases against people who caused thedeath or bodily injury to someone who used
fentanyl in La Chris Adler, kif I knew. Jim Ryan, good
morning to you. So we've beentalking about Title forty two set to expire
(05:40):
tomorrow, and then right now wehave seen all kinds of footage of everybody
who is trying to get into theUS before the expiration. Now we've got
troops at the border, as SteveGregory was just talking about, tell us
exactly who the troops are from whatI guess what agency, what governmental agency,
Army, Navy, whatever, andthen also what is their actual job.
(06:01):
Well, it depends upon the groupyou're talking about, chat because the
Biden administration is said something like sofar five hundred and fifty active duty military
personnel down to the border. Theseare primarily army folks who will be there
in a support role helping customs inborder protection to process the anticipated surge in
migrants who are coming into the countrymaking applications. So folks who are coming
(06:25):
to the checkpoints and saying I'm hereto apply for asylum, they are processed
in. There's such a backlog thoughright now that customs can't handle it.
So these folks being set in fromplaces like Colorado, from other military bases
around will be handling some of thoseduties. At the same time, Governor
Greg Abbott, who's criticized the administrationfor both lifting Title forty two and then
(06:48):
deploying these military folks to the checkpoints, is sending what he calls a rapid
Response task force. These are NationalGuard troops who will be sent two areas
between the border patrol checkpoints to tryto repel people who are coming in illegally.
They'll be stringing concertina wire, They'llbe physically and turning people back if
(07:11):
they need to. But to sufficeit to say that after midnight tomorrow night,
at eleven fifty nine pm Eastern time, the Entitle forty two will be
gone. You know, you seethe footage of these people camped out,
just waiting to get across the border. And you have the President of Mexico
meeting with you know, President Bidenthis week, him saying, you know,
(07:31):
we'll do what we can, buthow much can they do? How
thin can they be stretched in Mexico? And then what is the I guess
relationship between President Biden and the Presidentof Mexico in the sense of can we
trust one another? Are we reallyon that basis where we can say,
you know, hey we need yourhelp doing this, Hey we need your
help doing this. Stop these people, help them, whatever the case may
(07:56):
be. Is there that kind ofI guess SI pat relationship between the two
Well, there's a good cooperation atleast. I mean, it may not
be the friendliest relationship that the UnitedStates has ever enjoyed with Mexico. But
at the same time, the Mexicanpresident has recognized that people will be expelled
from the United States, they'll beturned down in their migration or their immigration
(08:18):
applications, and they'll have to gosomewhere. So Mexico has opened up some
space there on the other side ofthe border. In Uarez, for example,
I saw an interview this morning withthe man who's been there for the
last two months with his family. The new process involves using an app called
cbp one, which is a phoneapp, and it allows people to make
(08:39):
application for asylum or for their immigrationprocess on this phone app. Unfortunately,
the guy who's been there for thelast two months, he wants to come
into the country legally, doesn't wantto risk coming in illegally and then being
expelled. Every time he gets downto the very last step sending this application
at glitches, gets a message sayingerror, and so he tries again the
(09:03):
next day. CBP is trying toaddress this, trying to fix this app,
take the glitches out to ensure thatit does work. Becomes a lot
of the people, maybe most whocome up from even Colombia for Venezuela from
elsewhere, have smartphones with them, right, And that's great. It's great
they have that technology, and it'sgreat that they are trying to go through
and do it the correct way andnot come in illegally. But it also
(09:26):
I guess the process in which they'redoing this, and it's like, Okay,
you have to have access to this, you have to be able to
fill it out, but you alsohave to camp out. You're also trying
to keep your family, you know, get them food whatever. I mean.
There is part of me that feelsfor the migrants, and I just
wonder if there is disinformation that theyare being given that, you know,
(09:50):
like, hey, the borders openright now, you guys come on through,
or is it more of it.They know that this is a hail
Mary, and they're just trying toget in. Well, I think the
idea that the border is suddenly openeven after a Title forty two goes away,
Title eight takes effect. That's thelongstanding immigration policy that this country has
had forever, and it has somepretty tough provisions. If you try to
(10:11):
come into the country illegally, youcan be deported for five years. You
can't even make application at that pointfor the next five years, and so
there will be expedited deportations under thatpolicy. So so we're told that a
lot of this information that all thewords are suddenly opened. Title forty two
is gone, you can walk rightin. That's coming from smugglers who said,
(10:33):
you know, and both side. You know. Governor Grey Gabbott has
said that the administration has said thatthat criminal elements are convincing people that suddenly
they've got a free path into thecountry when that just isn't the case.
All right, Jim, thank youso much, and I will chat tomorrow.
All right, so Jim see youlater. ABC's Jim Ryan and the
reason no coming into the country illegally. No, Well, let's let's talk
(10:56):
about that guy that Jim spoke with, who's been there for two months at
the Order trying to do the rightthing, trying to go through the CBP
APP The way that I look atthis is how desperate must you be to
camp out at the border for twomonths with your family, knowing water,
(11:18):
food, depending on whatever the weatheris there? You are subjecting yourself to
all of that. How bad wasyour life in Venezuela or Columbia or wherever
these people are coming from, thatyou think the fingers crossed? Gosh,
I hope so chance that you canget into the US is possible, And
(11:43):
I of course, legally, ifyou can get into this country legally and
you are seeking asylum, of coursewe all want them out of harm's way.
I get that. But at thesame time, if you've got these
smugglers giving these people all this disinformation, well that's I mean, come on,
(12:03):
if your living situation was horrible, wouldn't you try and get across legally
or illegally if you thought that youhad the chance, and then these smugglers
dupe you and do whatever to youand your family. Just the whole situation
is just a mess. So we'llsee how it plays out. Also,
I heard this morning Chicago Mayor LoriLightfoot even issued an emergency declaration in Chicago.
(12:28):
Now why because she says that alarge number of migrants, mostly families,
have been arriving in Chicago and theywere bust to the city, she
claims Tuesday by Texas Governor Grey Gabbott. So now Chicago is issuing this warning
(12:50):
unbelievable. Former President Trump will beback on CNN for a town hall in
New Hampshire. Tonight's town hall isbeing held just a day after a civil
jury found Trump liable for sexually abusingan advice columnist nearly three decades ago.
Now, Trump is referred to CNNas fake news, and Tonight's host is
Caitlin Collins, and she and theformer president of maybe not agreed on a
(13:16):
lot of stuff. Some people mightsay, they have had very colorful arguments.
Right, Trump's already written on truthsocial Now CNN made a deal that
he couldn't refuse, as he putit, and that it could turn into
a disaster for us. All Let'swait and see, now, how smart
(13:37):
was that? Because even if thisis the stupidest town hall in America,
or you couldn't give a flying figabout what the former president is going to
say tonight, the fact that hesaid it could turn into a disaster.
Makes you go, oh, what'she think they're going to fight again?
And what will you do? Thentune in. This guy is a matter
(14:00):
of getting people to watch his shows. I mean, he's you got to
give him that. Top law enforcementofficials in LA have announced federal criminal cases
aimed at tackling fentnyl trafficking. TheLA Drug Enforcement Agency says Mexican drug cartels
are using social media now as away to get drugs into the community.
(14:20):
Officials said sixty two cases have beenfiled against people who have caused death or
severe bodily injury to someone they soldfentanyl too, and the FSAF fentnyl poison
poisoning is the number one cause ofdeath in adults fifty years and younger.
Peter and Nadio, welcome back towake Up Call. These Sportsbetexpert dot com
(14:41):
is where you can go. He'sCEO of that. Peter, I have
to tell you the last time thatI had you on, which was riot
around Super Bowl, some of thethings that you were talking about, the
odds on. One of my goodfriends, Cupcake is his name. He's
a big, old bodybuilder guy wholives across the street from me. Cupcake,
perfect name for him. He actuallywent, he went on your site.
(15:01):
He did like three of the betsor something like that, and he
won the purple Gatorade one. Hewon like all these weird little prop bets
that were on there based on whatyou had on the website. So he
came out a very rich man listeningto you. It was a good time.
You know. You and I hadboth talked about them scoring a lot
of points that game, and wewere both right on that as well.
(15:26):
Exactly so, Peter, when itcomes to sports betting, it is fun,
and especially you know, it's notlike I throw big bucks into the
game. It's just kind of funto have, you know, an extra
hundred or something in there that youcan watch the game and you have a
little you know, skin in it, I guess. But for the last
five years, I was blown awaywhen I saw that Americans had spent two
(15:48):
hundred twenty billion dollars on sports withlegal gambling outlets. It's unreal. You
know, it's in household's across theUnited States everywhere. Now, the US
sports betting market is one of themost lucrative and rapidly growing industries in the
country. You know, thirty threestates now are legal to bet on sports,
(16:11):
and when this weekend, right,we have an anniversary that's coming up,
and it looks like then this couldeven expand some of the sports betting,
and you know, you kind ofcan't get away from it. I
was laughing because in this article thatI'm reading, I think out of the
OC Register, it talks about theManning dynasty and that commercial for Caesar's I
(16:33):
guess you know where they're sitting aroundand they're talking it, talking about it
or whatever, and it's those it'sa person like Peyton Manning or for goodness
sakes, in this case, hisentire dynasty. And if you think like,
oh, Peyton's doing it, orPeyton endorses this one, that's one
where you start to feel comfortable. You think, oh, he's probably vetted
it. I will do it.So even getting the family dynasty in there
(16:56):
must have cost a fortune. Atthe same time, the company had to
know we are going to make somuch money off of people being okay with
the Mannings doing this totally worth whateverit costs. Well, who doesn't like
the Manning family? And of courseyou know, unfortunately the gambling industry has
been looked down upon over the years, but now it's becoming more mainstream.
(17:18):
And who doesn't love the Manning brothers, you know, and the family.
We got people like Jamie Fox aswell on these advertisements, and they're just
trying to get more people involved andmore people to trust in the industry,
and it's blowing up and it's somethingthat we can look forward to for many
years to come. Well, youbeing the CEO of Sports Bet Network,
(17:41):
you've got to have been following thisfrom the very beginning. What do you
think some of the biggest changes arein sports bettings? So absolutely so.
You know, I took a riskand I bet on myself when I started
my company over eleven years ago.And like I said earlier, we're seeing
it become more mainstream, you know, we're seeing it become key advertisements in
(18:04):
all of these big sports markets. So you got, for example, Tennessee
Titans, who when you go toa game there, they have bet MGM
across the end zone in a hugeadvertisement, and you're just seeing more and
more of them trying to get peopleinvolved. And I just see this market
to continue to expand and get theaverage person who may not even understand it's
(18:27):
the whole operations of it. Tocome in and try to learn and like
you said earlier, get a littleskin in the game to make it more
exciting it is. And even ifit's you know, it's how do I
put it this way? I understandthat, you know, gambling, like
anything, can become an addiction.I get that side of it. On
the other hand, though, ifyou are doing it responsibly and legally and
(18:48):
you're just having fun, I reallydon't see this any different than if you
were I don't know whatever. Ifpeople are like, oh, don't go
to bars because you might, youknow, drink too much or something like
that, that's on you to sortof, you know, I don't know,
harness yourself a little bit. Butat the same time, if you're
just going to have fun and you'renot putting thousands and thousands of dollars down,
I would almost think that the youknow, the small guy like me
(19:11):
who's just putting one hundred bucks hereand their kind of thing, that that
might be the group that's coming in, and that might be the group who
the Manning Brothers or Jamie Fox wouldget to say, Okay, I'll try
it. Once and then probably gethooked. Yeah, So of course that's
the negative side effect, and there'snegative side effects to everything, but you
know, when you think about it, it has a positive economic impact,
(19:33):
you know, with increased tax revenue, job creation, and consumer spending.
But let's be honest here, youhave to be patient. You can't bet
on impulse, you know, nevergamble with the money you can't afford to
lose. And be patients. Youknow, there's always another day. You
can't force anything, and you know, a little side note the difference between
high level sports betters and people whotry and fail. As the good ones
(19:57):
consistently play the numbers and their favorand live with the result of knowing they
have an edge. Long term amateurssweat every single game and don't want to
deal with the losses. So that'swhere you have to harness yourself. Okay,
so let's go back to what youwere saying about the numbers. So
if somebody goes to your website, the sports Betexpert dot com, tell them
(20:18):
what is there and how your websitehelps them to bet. So what we
do is we make it easy foryou to literally log onto our site.
You don't have to do any research, and we put you on a position
to win. Obviously we're gonna havelosing days, it happens, but we
win more than we lose. Sowe want to just end the night.
We don't want to chase, Wedon't want to bet on impulse. You
(20:41):
know, if we take a losslate in the night, which happened,
it's gonna happen to every single person. I guarantee if you bet on sports,
you're gonna lose eventually. But youhave to just be responsible and that's
what we teach people. We offerdaily, weekly, and monthly subscriptions.
They're very affordable. You look atthe competitors in the industry and you put
people in a position to win. It's almost like watching your stocks every day
(21:03):
or going to a stockbroker or astock under to tell you who to put
your money in, what companies toput your money in. We tell you
who to put your money in onsports teams, got it? Which makes
absolute sense. And when I whenI saw that fan duel and Draft Kings.
The difference in what Peter's talking abouthis website is is that's where you
go to see who you should beton. So that's they've done all the
(21:26):
stats and the numbers for you there, then you go to a site like
FanDuel or draft kings right and makeyour bet exactly. We just give information.
We're strictly an informative website. Wedon't take or place bets for anybody.
And as you saw, you knowFanDuel and draft Kings they control over
seventy percent of legal sports bets, which is huge, and I know they're
(21:48):
God. They're the people that youknow everywhere everyone's going to place bets and
they're the big companies that are trusted. Right now, where do you see
the future of sports betting? Yousee it just exploding even more than it
already is. You know, Isaid it. I said it ten years
ago that I live in South Floridaand that you were going to be able
(22:10):
to walk into hard Rock Stadium wherethe Dolphins play, or any other stadium
around the country, and you aregoing to be able to bet on the
game with your mom, with yourdad, with your aunt, someone who
doesn't know what they're doing, andthey're gonna be like, hey, Mom,
you want to put fifty bucks onthe Dolphins to cover three points and
you're going to be able to dothat, right, then and there from
(22:33):
the stadium. I can't wait.I cannot wait because I would go.
In fact, I've tried to getmy dad. I'm like, Dad,
I have a Dodgers tickets for thelast day Dodgers Giants at the end of
September. So he and my momare going to come down so that we
can. You know, I'll goto the game or whatever because they're Giants
fans and I'm a Dodger fan.How fun would it be? Instead of
(22:55):
like betting who pays for you know, whatever, peanuts or something, you
can actually go and bet on thegame. I love it. Yes,
I mean that makes it more exciting, let's be honest. Absolutely, Peter,
thank you as always CEO of Sportsbet and Network. His website is
the Sportsbetexpert dot com. We'll haveyou on again for sure, Peter,
(23:15):
have a great one. All right, Thanks, Jan see it, talk
to you later. I love thatguy. You know. It's fun too,
is I've never met him, right, We've just talked on the air
and done interviews. He's phenomenal. He will text me sometimes like would you
bet on this game? Or congrats? I know you bet on this game
(23:37):
or whatever? And yes, hissite is totally for profit. At the
same time his numbers, they weregood for me. I'm saying there will
be good for you or bet onanything. No, no, I'm just
saying it was fun. It workedout for me, which rarely happens.
Usually I might as well just likewalk in, stay to Santa Anita and
hand somebody one hundred bucks and lightingon fire because I never win. California
(24:00):
has agreed to pay twenty four milliondollars to the family of a man who
died while being held down by severalHP officers in Altadena so a nurse could
get a blood sample. And I'vegot a story about a corgi who has
predicted every playoff matchup between the Lakersand the Golden State Warriors correctly. So
(24:22):
we'll talk more about the corgi predictionin just a second. But what is
next? A jury found Donald Trumpliable for sexually abusing advice columnist A Jean
Carroll in nineteen ninety six, givingher five million dollars. ABC News legal
analyst Royal Oakes is here. Royal, does Donald Trump actually pay that five
million or do we see appeals happening? What's next? Adye? Jennifer first,
(24:47):
I have to said expected Corgi tobe predicting British soccer scores. But
yeah, that's just me, that'strue. You know, it's interesting,
Jennifer. He's not gonna have topay for years because he's appealing and he'll
say to the it's looking I'm goingto post a bond. I'm good for
the money. So Jeane Carrell won'tget the money until and unless she wins
a few years down the road. But it was such a shock, Jennifer
(25:08):
that only three hours of deliberations.I thought they had to be unanimous back
there in federal Court, New York. I thought it would take days and
days, but they did come upwith the compromise. As you reported,
he did not rape her, buthe did sexually abuse her to the tune
of five million dollars damages. Andwhen today you had Ejing Carroll on NBC
(25:29):
News, I think that's where shewas first. I just saw her on
Excuse Me on CNN, and sheis talking about being overwhelmed with joy for
women across America, even though shedidn't get that rape portion of it for
her. Does this make her somesort of a leader or trailblazer? I
guess. Oh absolutely, that imageof her coming out of the courtroom with
(25:51):
a huge smile on her face.So you know, it's just an addition
to the me too movement. AndTrump has been such a lightning rod for
criticism and it's got to be satisfyingto her and his critics. And of
course, from his standpoint, he'scontinuing to say, you know, it's
just despicable. I didn't do it, know the woman, but this jury
didn't take long to decide that hehad actually committed serious misconduct. And before
(26:14):
I let you go, did thefact that he didn't testify make a difference
to that jury. I think thatwas huge. When a jury sits there
and they stay to themselves. Letme get this straight. We took time
out of our life to do ourcivic duty and this guy doesn't even show
up for the trial. I havea feeling that really fueled their anger.
I have a feeling that did too. Royal, thank you so much.
(26:37):
We'll talk to you again soon. You bet see you later. That's ABC's
legal analyst Royal Oaks. And youknow, I can't wait. I haven't
seen any polls yet or anything, but I can't wait to see how this
impacts his poll numbers, and I'mpredicting only based on what has happened.
Every time something negative happens to Trump, his poll numbers go up. And
(27:07):
it kind of boggles the mind alittle bit, other than if you think
about it, his narrative that youknow, it's the deep state at that
this is all a witch hunt.Anytime anything happens uses the witch hunt phrase.
I'm pretty sure he did when itcame to eging Carroll as well.
Anytime that he does that, whatthat does is that negative so something bad
(27:30):
happens to him, he then usesit to fuel that negative you know,
press against him, that the DeepStates against him, that you know,
the witch hunt, and his followerslike that, that's the narrative that they
believe, and so they go alongwith it. It just fascinates me that
(27:51):
almost as things get worse for Trump, maybe legally politically, they get better.
Let's get back to some of thesestories coming out of the KFI twenty
four hour news room. There's acoorgy that's gone viral for predicting every game
in the playoff matchup between the Lakersand the Golden State Warriors. Videos showed
(28:15):
this corgi scoring a toy basketball intotwo different hoops with each team's logo on
it. Right, the corgi haspredicted the winner of the four games so
far. Now the Lakers are upthree to one, three to one.
That's they won three and the Warriorsonly won one three to one. The
(28:37):
next game happens tonight, However,I think the freaking corgie needs to have
its forehead felt. The corgi haspredicted that the Warriors will win the next
three games. I liked the corgiuntil the last line of that story.
There's some airline passengers who may geta blast of cold airs. To TikTok,
(29:00):
a user who goes by the handleat the LK Show, has posted
what he or she calls an unethicallife hack. The TikToker says, when
you're on a flight and the personin front of you reclines their seat all
the way, leaving you know room, just turn on the air for your
seat full blast and pointed at thetop of their head is a way to
get them to set up straight again. The video has gone viral, restarting
the age old debate about whether seatson planes should recline. The video has
(29:22):
been viewed more than two point fourmillion times and has received twenty nine hundred
comments. Amy King KFI News.Okay, I'm not saying do that,
Oh my god, do that?Do that? Let's been tusk good,
oh my, because how many timeshave you been like dude? Seriously?
And or they're one of those peoplewho sort of bounces as they lay back,
(29:45):
