A Nebraska football podcast by the Common Fan, for the Common Fan.
The Nebraska football team overcame an ugly start to beat Maryland, 48-23, capping off a perfect weekend that included the third annual Common Fan Tailgate. We had beautiful weather, plenty of Fairbury hot dogs, White Elm beer, Chick-fil-A, Common Fan socks and—most importantly—a chance to hang out with a whole bunch of members of the Common Fan community.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers are 4-0 for the first time since 2016. The Big Red went on the road and beat Michigan State 31-13 in their Big Ten opener, overcoming an ugly third quarter and some familiar frustrations to pull away late.
Was it perfect? No. Did certain Common Fans briefly descend into the dark place during the third quarter? Absolutely. But the Huskers made big plays when they needed to, the Blackshirts ...
The Nebraska football team took care of North Dakota 34-7 in a workmanlike performance to finish nonconference play undefeated. And that's really the main story of the first three weeks. The Huskers beat the teams they were supposed to beat, mostly in the fashion they were supposed to beat them, and avoided the kind of early-season disaster Husker fans have a little too much experience with.
Now the real fun begin...
The Nebraska football team jumped all over Bowling Green on Saturday, scoring touchdowns on five straight possessions, taking a 35-0 lead into halftime, and cruising to a 56-7 win. Yes, things got a little sloppy in the second half, and there are still a few things we'd like to see cleaned up before Big Ten play. But Nebraska did exactly what good teams are supposed to do against an overmatched opponent: dominate.
Nebraska football is back, and the Huskers are 1-0.
It was far from perfect, and much of Husker Nation was sweating a 14-13 halftime lead. But by the time the dust settled, the Big Red had pulled away for a 49-21 win, the offense had shown some firepower, and Nebraska had given fans at least a few reasons to be excited about what this team could become.
The Common Fans break down the win, the good and ...
Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen joins the Common Fans to talk about his path from a small-town Nebraska kid hoping for a chance to play for the Huskers to becoming a two-time first-team All-Big Eight selection—and, eventually, Governor of Nebraska. Along the way, he shares some fantastic behind-the-scenes stories about Coach Osborne, his thoughts on Matt Rhule, and what concerns him about the direction of college football....
We made it, Common Fans. The offseason is over, fall camp is in the books, and your Nebraska Cornhuskers will play an actual game this week.
With game week finally here, the Common Fans offer five bold predictions for Nebraska football in 2026. From a breakout freshman running back to a Nebraska passing record, a resurgent Blackshirt defense, and two very different predictions for the Huskers' final record, we're ...
College football is finally back, and the Common Fans are celebrating by bringing back old friend and Omaha World-Herald reporter Evan Bland.
With fall camp winding down and Nebraska’s opener right around the corner, Evan joins the Common Fans to break down what he’s seeing and hearing from Matt Rhule’s fourth Husker team — including some position groups that may be stron...
College football is almost back, and the Common Fans are kicking things into gear with one of our favorite traditions: a visit from legendary college football broadcaster Tim Brando. Tim joins the podcast for the third straight year, and as usual, Timmy B has no shortage of opinions about Nebraska, the Big Ten, the SEC, the College Football Playoff — or ESPN.
Does Brando Think Matt Rhule Can Get Nebraska Over the Hump?

The Mount Rushmore series has been one of our favorite offseason projects, and the final episode was perhaps the most difficult.
After spending the summer building separate Mount Rushmores for quarterbacks, offensive players, defensive players, special teams standouts, walk-ons, and coaches, the Common Fans finally put it all together. Joined once again by Brandon Vogel of the Counter Read newsl...
The countdown to Nebraska football is officially on.
With Big Ten Media Days in the rearview mirror and fall camp about to begin, the Common Fans take a break from their Mount Rushmore series to focus on the present. From Matt Rhule's comments to position battles, college football changes, and even the future of Memorial Stadium, there was plenty to unpack as football season draws closer.
Matt Rhule Knows th...
Nebraska football has always done things its own way. The sellout streak. The triple option. The Blackshirts.
But perhaps nothing captures the heart of the program quite like the walk-on tradition.
In the latest episode of the Common Fan Podcast, we tackle one of the toughest Mount Rushmore categories yet: who are the four greatest walk-ons in Nebraska football history? With decades of incredible...
The Common Fan Podcast continues with its summer Mount Rushmore series, and this time the boys take on what may be the toughest challenge yet: Nebraska football's greatest offensive players...not including quarterbacks. When you consider the Huskers' incredible history at running back and offensive line, along with the outstanding tight ends, wide receivers, and even fullbacks they’ve had over the years, narrowing the l...
The Mount Rushmore series continues, and this time the Common Fans tackle a category that doesn't always get the attention it deserves—but perhaps it should. Nebraska football’s best teams had excellent special teams units. The program has produced legendary return men, clutch kickers, and game-changing punters. It’s no exaggeration to say excelling in special teams was part of the formula that made the best...
The Common Fans keep rolling with their Mount Rushmore series, and this time the boys tackle one of the toughest categories imaginable: the Mount Rushmore of Nebraska football defenders.
Friend of the program Brian Christopherson from Husker247 joins the conversation, along with Brandon Vogel of Counter Read newsletter, to sort through decades of Blackshirt greatness and try to identify t...
The Common Fans’ Mount Rushmore series rolls on, and with this latest episode, we’re looking at the men in the headsets. Who belongs on the Mount Rushmore of Nebraska football coaches? And how do you even begin to compare head coaches, coordinators, assistants, strength coaches, and figures from completely different eras of Husker history?
To help sort it all out, the boys are joined by two friends of ...
The Common Fans’ summer series is officially underway, and the boys are starting in the most obvious place: quarterbacks.
This summer, the Common Fans are working to build the definitive Nebraska Football Mount Rushmore. Not just the four “best” names by stats alone, but the most important, most consequential figures in Husker history. Impact, championships, leadership, cultural significance, def...
The Common Fans are back with a little housekeeping and one big announcement: the next Common Fan summer series has officially arrived.
Mount Rushmore Series
For the third straight summer, the boys will do a series of episodes focused on an important segment of Nebraska football history. Two summers ago, it was The Reckoning – six episodes focused on the coaches, administrators, bad decisions, and history of ...
There are certain conversations that only happen during a Nebraska football offseason. Who’s going to start at quarterback. Whether the defense can stop the run. If Matt Rhule can finally engineer the leap everyone has been waiting for.
And then there are the truly important debates…like what are the best food items in Memorial Stadium history?
This week, the Common Fans take a joyful trip...
The Common Fans rekindle a time honored offseason tradition by looking at the most annoying coaches the Nebraska football team will face in 2026. Joined by friend of the program Nic Olsen, the boys have a rollicking good time talking through the head coaches that make them laugh, squirm, or even angry. Not necessarily coaches from the biggest rivals or the best teams. Just the guys who drive Husker fans absolutely insane.
As it turn...
