this and our wide range of podcasts now on iHeartRadio.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
This is Sportsfix.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
How would buy news Talk said B.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
Get a may Well the end of the Sports Fans podcast.
My name's Darcy Walter Grave. This is all you need
to know about sport today and bite sized packages. Today
being Wednesday in twenty sixth of November twenty twenty five.
All of this is Curtisvos, Fine Folk, GJ. Gardner Holmes,
John's most trusted home building right master Planning Today. First up,

(00:45):
I'll be having a yarn with Ryan Ward. He is
a driver in Supercars Championship. That's the final round this
week in the street circuit at Adelaide. Will talk about
that and the way this new fangled season has developed.
Then I'm going to lay some information on you, some attitude,
some opinion about the oddity that is marijuana, bands and

(01:07):
international sport. And then we'll be joined in the chamber
by Clay Wilson whose News talk Z the Bees sports
news director. We pick apart a couple of the stories
of the day, including two All Blacks in the World,
fifty two wallabies as well. Yeah, get it right regardless.
We're going to get into it right out right now.

(01:28):
In other news from the mic through the mixing desk
to you, this is sport today. No rest for the
silver ferns, but hey, it's all about opportunity. Captain Karen
Berger along with a multitude of ferns like nine to
Big Zach. We'll be playing the OSSI Super Netball League
next year.

Speaker 4 (01:48):
I mean, not as much of a two month break.
We've got about four weeks of.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
The Christmas and New Years, but I'm going to shut
into each send for a couple of weeks journey, get
to do these kind of things potentially once in our career,
Instagraming onto that opportunity with nexus for me.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
Golfer Ryan Fox's are loving the increased participation from New
Zealand golfers on the worlds, from the Seniors, the DP
World Tour, the LPGA, and according to Ryan, there's more
to come.

Speaker 5 (02:16):
I don't know that's a sense right, but it feels
like we've got a lot more guys playing on tour
now than you know when I first came on tour
fifteen years ago. And gets pretty coolse to so many
people doing well on the World Stage.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
E tes off at the ozz Epga tomorrow. And finally,
former English cricket Skippernessa Hussein isn't happy with us former
team's cavalier attitude with the bat in the ashes so far,
there has been a number of occasions they have been
ahead of the game where someone should have said, Nope,
not today. We are ninety nine ahead, one down.

Speaker 4 (02:48):
We just bat now.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
We don't need to be flirting outside the off stump
driving on the arp. Man. There there's sport today, new
speed a bean.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
It's Sportsfix with Ducie Walder Greve seeper.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
Got drive out. Ryan Wood joins us now here on
the figs Warm Welcome to you. Ryan. Of course the
final coming up this weekend. It's not at the Bend,
it's the Adelaide Street Circuit. What a weekend this is
going to be, Ryan good Ay, So what can you
tell us about the street circuit and how it operates?

Speaker 2 (03:21):
Yeah, thanks for having me on again, mate, No, the
Street Circuit is real.

Speaker 4 (03:27):
Pleasure to be racing out again.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
You know, we only get two or three on our
calendar a year, and Adelaide's right up there with one
of our favorite events of the year. So to be
back here Adelaide Grand Final, pretty cool time of the year,
so soaking up being here.

Speaker 4 (03:41):
Would have love to be in the top four.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
But yeah, we've had some good history here one Super
two here, so looking to go out on a bang
this year with some race winds, So looking forward to it.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
Slightly different what you're racing in now to Super two
or not. How much difference is it? How much can
you take the information you've picked up from previous races
and reapply to this weekend.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
Yeah, a little bit different obviously the Super two cars
and older model, but yeah, now we're on a different
tidle last year as well when I raced main game here,
So there's a few differences, but all in all, track
still goes the same way as the walls are somewhat
in the same spot, and you're still going to close
your eyes and drive as fast as you can.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
That's an interesting theory. You think you want your peepers
open to avoid the wall. Maybe you could just bounce
around the whole track, you'd do it by Braille Ryan.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
Yeah, exactly exactly mate. Now looking forward to it Adelaide,
Like I said, one of our favorite events of the year,
and yeah, soaking it up.

Speaker 3 (04:41):
What makes it so good when you look at all
the different events that you're running and what about the
street circuit and Adelaide, what stands out for you as
a driver?

Speaker 2 (04:50):
Just the atmosphere here. It becomes a party like Goldie,
very similar to the Goldie vibe. A lot of people
come and there's a lot of really really passionate fans
in Adelaide, So anytime we race here at the street track,
you get the best of the people out.

Speaker 4 (05:04):
And this year it's even better because it's our Adelaide
Grand Finals, so it's quite a bit different and.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
I think that's going to spice things up and make
for an even better show.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
Well, it's been around with the drivers and the teams
around this because this is the first time this particular
version has been done of the Supercars Championship. Has it
been well accepted? I know you're not in the top four,
so you probably don't love it, but what about the
drivers and teams in general? Do I think new way
of finding a champion is actually working?

Speaker 4 (05:32):
Yeah? I think so.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
I think look at this time most years you wouldn't
have any more than maybe one or two people in
the championship.

Speaker 4 (05:41):
Hunting.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
Usually it's only one guy and he's wrapped it up already.
So to have four people going into the last round
been championship contention, you can't tell me that's not exciting.
So I think that's a good step forward for our category.

Speaker 4 (05:57):
Yes, people can.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
Say what they want, but you can't can't fake that.
The racing this year has been probably the best best
Supercars has had for a long time, So it's a
pleasure to be a part of.

Speaker 4 (06:08):
And yeah, really just enjoying my time at the moment.

Speaker 3 (06:11):
The format wise, how does the weekend unfold? Because there's
some money involved for you guys as well, which is
going to get your pushing right.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
We always pushed no matter if there's money involved or not.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
So you're a racer, Ryan, you're a racer.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
I know they're still there, so you know we've got
to kick him and chickspecially going into the summer breaks.
So my biggest sk is to make sure we end
the year on a great note, and yeah, I think
we can do that with the car.

Speaker 4 (06:39):
Speed we've had.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
I'd love to get a podium at a street track
and I haven't had one of those yet, so trying
to take that box this weekend.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
So three races across the weekend and they all count
for the grand prize. I'm not quite sure how that operates.
I hope you know, Ryan.

Speaker 4 (06:56):
I've got no idea. I just drive.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
So now three races, weather is meant to be okay,
and yeah, it's going to be exciting. I think Friday's
probably the most up and down weather, bitter rain lurking
around one hundred k race than two two fifties over
the weekend to top ten shootouts.

Speaker 4 (07:14):
So jam packed weekend.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
A lot involved a lot of people that you know,
have to pull strings to make this Adelaide events. So
obviously can't thank everyone enough. And it's just awesome to
have a grand final here.

Speaker 3 (07:27):
Tell us about the fifty k that's Friday, right, Is
that just out and out cast for the winner? Is it?

Speaker 1 (07:32):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (07:33):
Fifty k for the winner. So yeah, it'll be all
on like Donkey Kong. And I'll tell you what.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
There'll be people throwing wheels down the inside that you
haven't seen before, and hopefully I'm one of them.

Speaker 4 (07:42):
So yeah, it's going to be a spectacle.

Speaker 2 (07:45):
Not very often we get to race for prize money,
so yeah, I'm sure there's a few boys looking for
rent money.

Speaker 3 (07:51):
This month when Scott Mcglonchlin Race there, you'll remember what
he said up against wind Cup, which is quite extraordinary.
That was one of the most exciting times there. Do
you think you're going to plug it into second and
f year.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
Probably wouldn't say that, but I would definitely plug it
into second and do as much as I can.

Speaker 4 (08:09):
But yeah, that was a cool moment.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
Obviously Scotty's a real good roaster, and yeah, learned to
or try to be somewhat like him.

Speaker 1 (08:19):
Dissecting the sporting agenda, it's Sportsfex with Dancy Waldgrave.

Speaker 3 (08:26):
Got a great day in the life of Breakers development player.
To Kaha Cooper, he's been banned from basketball for a month.
He tested positive for cannabis. So the Integrity Commission behind
this to Kahu Nui, they tested him after the Sharks
took on the Saints in the National Basketball League and

(08:49):
he had traces of marijuana in his system. He actually
admitted later that he had been recreationally using cannabis, so
it was out of competition, it was unrelated to sporting
performance and essence, it was a misdemeanor and he got
his hands slipped and he can carry on as per

(09:10):
which brings it to the question why on earth is marijuana?
Is cannabis still on the band list from World Sport? I,
for the life of me cannot work out why it
doesn't appear to be in any way, shape or form
performance enhancing, unless, of course, you're competing in some form

(09:31):
of World Eating championship. Joey Chestnut might have a joint
before he starts, or Koby Yashi Cooper plainly regrets his
decision to partake in cannabis, but is one month sanctioned
back data. It's a late October, and as long as
he's participated in the program, he's okay to keep playing

(09:53):
all on, all much ado or should I say much
adobie about nothing not performance enhancing, And surely world doping
should be focusing and focused on chemicals and drugs that
give you a clear advantage in the wide world of sport,

(10:13):
not something that people casually smoke at a barbecue on
a Sunday afternoon so they can eat the burnt sausages
and maybe get into the groove of the music a
little more. I think their priorities are entirely wrong, and
as soon as they get rid of this ridiculous law
in world sport.

Speaker 4 (10:33):
The better.

Speaker 1 (10:34):
The Chamber is now in session on Sportsfax.

Speaker 3 (10:37):
Reluctant at ready, Grey Wilson join us now and the Chamber.
He's directed with spored for news Talk z B. Coming
up to December, things are slowing down to a well
to a degree, aren't they, Clay and welcome.

Speaker 6 (10:51):
Well, I think you've got this awkward pause between Asha's
abbreviated Ash's first Test, Asha's second Test. Are the black
Caps Test series against the West Indies. We're waiting for
that to kick off, and without cricket at this time
of the year, international cricket, no rugby, no league, you know,
we're looking at the breakers, the A League, these kinds

(11:11):
of things. But obviously the news cycle does start to
slow down a bit with things kind of coming to
a bit of a halt for the years. So yeah,
it gives us a chance to dive into some different
directions and maybe dive a bit deeper into things that
otherwise might kind of pass us by a bit more.

Speaker 3 (11:26):
Yeah, get a bit more investigative journalism going on there.
But something that is very present right here right now.
The ICC have released the T twenty I draw for
the World Championships which is coming up, the World Cup
whatever they call it in this day and age in
New Zealand. They're in a group with South Africa and
Afghanistan and a couple of other nearly nearly theirs. But

(11:48):
does this represent a bit of a scare factor because
no one really wants to be beaten by Afghanistan. But
they're clear and present danger now, aren't they, which is
amazing considering where they come from, right, Yeah.

Speaker 6 (12:00):
And I think the thing with T twenty is being
the shortest format. It's always you know that levels the
playing field, doesn't it. The shorter the game for me
in any sport, the more you level the playing field
between favorites and underdogs. So Afghanistan I think are a
threat to any team at one day level on the

(12:20):
day these days, so at T twenty level for sure,
and I think we've seen them upset a lot of
good teams at World Cups now and of course South Africa,
I mean we know how good they are across all
for mets, but particularly T twenty with the power they have,
So you know, really it should come down to a
fight between the black cap sains at Africa shouldn't it.

(12:42):
But Afghanistan a very much a live a live dog
in that fight.

Speaker 3 (12:47):
And looking at the draw, we play Afghanistan fair bait
first up. Chennai takes a word of a turn. If
they can do anything Afghanistan as they can, they can
tweak it. Although of recent times in New Zealand team
they've played a bit over in that part of the
world and that seems to be okay against the turning
ball or should we be concerned?

Speaker 6 (13:05):
Yeah, And I think the perhaps the step that the
black keeps, the biggest step the Black Caps have taken
it is their ability with the ball in the same conditions.
And you know, the reality is we're seeing it with
India in their home conditions against South Africa in their
current Test series. It's not just hard for the visiting betters,
it's also hard for the home betters and those conditions

(13:26):
if the visiting bowlers can also find the way to
utilize those conditions. And I think in Mitchell Centiner, we
have one of, if not you know, arguably in some
people's eyes, the best T twenty one day bowler in
the world. I mean you might chuck a couple of
others in the mix. There Adam Zamber from Australia, Rushia
Khan from Afghanistan. But someone like that, having a sort

(13:50):
of ace card in terms of a spin bowler like
that up your sleeve does make a big difference in
terms of you know, if it's going to be a
low scoring game, then you need to keep you need
to keep them kind of pinned down.

Speaker 3 (14:02):
To a certain bowler. I thought the White bull Cat
was a batsman. Now he's been going so well, taking
the lone long hand last and he sees a double threat.
And you look at that, and you talk about these
tweakers a sody has developed so well over the years,
say he's also clear and present danger. And of course,
Queen Phillips, we really need inmback, don't we to come

(14:23):
on with us the so called magic arm.

Speaker 6 (14:25):
Yeah, And I think the black Caps certainly have those
kind of players with the sort of the smaller pool
of talent we have to pick from in this country,
players that by necessity have to lend their hand to
all different formats and become quite adaptable. And it's a
massive part of T twenty cricket as the ability to
kind of adapt on the fly and all through those

(14:45):
players you mentioned. You know, Soldi Sodi obviously as a bowler,
but Santner and Phillips as all rounders have really developed
that ability. And T twenty cricket. Good all rounders are
like gold dust.

Speaker 4 (14:58):
You know.

Speaker 6 (14:58):
That's the other players that are most probably going to
get you deep in these tournaments when you the big games.
So the black Caps have those players as long as
they are fit, and they're there in T twenty. I
think anything's possible.

Speaker 3 (15:10):
Now relevants the T twenty I World Cup. Franchise Cricket
takes it all over, doesn't it. That seems to be
the focus, and we're having our own troubles with franchise cricket.
And I don't even want to go into that because
no one knows what's at the bottom of that particular canyon.
But it's still it means something. You're not convinced this

(15:32):
is great.

Speaker 6 (15:33):
No, if I'm Frank, I could take or leave the
T twenty World Cup. I guess that puts T twenty
Internationals in an awkward spot because if you play T
twenty Internationals, then why are you playing them? If there's
no pathway journey to a World Cup title, there's.

Speaker 3 (15:50):
No pot of gold at the end of that rainbow, right, So.

Speaker 6 (15:53):
And T twenty is such a massive part of you know,
for the casual cricket fan and cricket increasing its audience,
isn't it. That's what That's what brings casual fans into cricket.
So I guess from a governing body perspective, you can
understand they want a World Cup in this four because
it's what a lot of your you know, potential fans.

Speaker 3 (16:14):
It's very consumable, isn't it. It's easy to go there
and sit there for a few hours, understand what's going on,
then go home again. Something like One Day International cricket,
which used to be in that space. It now seems
like tests. All they're looking at the ashes. You could
probably say that that is the Test series. I'm all
over it, although it is in India again, and so

(16:34):
the games are all through the middle of the night,
which is kind of annoying.

Speaker 4 (16:36):
But you so, if I gave you.

Speaker 6 (16:40):
No T twenty World Cup but a few more tests
in the calendar, as a cricket purist, as a cricket.

Speaker 3 (16:46):
Following, you know exactly what I'm going to say, you know,
but I think these purists people like myself. We're getting
longer in the tooth and it's less and less irrelevant.
We just have to kind of accept that that it's
not the go to anymore, that time has passed. Hey,
talking about tests that talk about rugby union, only two
all blacks in the world rugby means fifteen dream teams.

Speaker 6 (17:09):
Some people might say, wow, two all blacks.

Speaker 3 (17:11):
It's amazing. On as a guest, I know one of them,
but who are they?

Speaker 6 (17:17):
Well, yeah, I think both of these players won't come
as a surprise half back, cameroy guard and Will Jordan
is your fullback?

Speaker 4 (17:23):
Is your wing?

Speaker 6 (17:25):
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? I'm not
sure you know? Will he will Jordan's become one of
these players who really probably would be a first choice
for the All Blacks in either of those positions. You know,
these teams that they pack are always, you know, in
essence to get people talking about the game. Aren't they
like that? They're subjective in a lot of ways.

Speaker 3 (17:45):
They don't mean anything.

Speaker 4 (17:47):
This is it? No.

Speaker 6 (17:48):
I mean, it's nice recognition for players that have had
a good season, but I think people are more going
to look at six South Africans, you know, and could
you could you have had, you know, less spring box,
more all blacks. I think just one Wallaby, perhaps only
a couple of English players France. Perhaps you might say,

(18:09):
are hard done by just one player each from what
I can tell. But yes, these things are all are
all subjective and kind of you know, they don't necessarily
represent the sort of team hierarchy of world rugby at
the moment, do they? I mean, do we really do
we really look at this and say, you know, that's

(18:31):
perhaps somewhat of a representation.

Speaker 3 (18:33):
But way, the Wallabies have got number eight Harry Wilson,
They've got len Ekett out second five. They've got the
same as we have. And the Wallabies had one of
the worst seasons.

Speaker 6 (18:41):
So we're as good as THEA. Is that what you're telling?

Speaker 3 (18:45):
And the English got one, well, they've got two I
think involved in their look doesn't mean a great deal.
But isn't it nice to see Scott's in there?

Speaker 6 (18:54):
It's great to see that. But did you get a vote?
Did the world rugby? That that email come through your
own box to send your thoughts and World.

Speaker 3 (19:02):
Rugby goes straight to trash? Be honest, play A, thanks
very much for your time. I feel your pain. Over
the next couple of weeks. But when Test cricket gets
up and underway and the ashes is not.

Speaker 4 (19:14):
Going to go very long.

Speaker 6 (19:14):
But that's all we will be thankful for.

Speaker 3 (19:17):
Good on you mate, Thanks very much for your time.
