Speaker 1 (00:06):
Sound Off with these folks. Sound the Celtics setting the
pace against the Pacers and dropping one hundred forty points
to open up their road trip. This is the sound
Off postgame podcast presented by Exfinity Mobile. We appreciate you
all forgiving us a listen. Listen. The Celtics were down
by fifteen points early in this game. The Pacers opened
(00:28):
up this game shooting six for six from three point range.
This felt a whole lot like Monday when the Celtics
were in a dogfight against this exact same team at
TD Garden. Now, in that game, the Pacers didn't really
cool off. They were hot all night long until the
Celtics made their run late to get back into it
(00:50):
and then get over the hump and win the game.
But Indiana played really well all night during that game,
shot the ball incredibly well from three point range all
night long. The Celtics clearly made a decision during a
timeout or whatever it was. They made a decision as
a team that wasn't gonna happen again tonight. Okay, Indiana
(01:14):
opens up six for six from distance. After that they
shoot twelve for thirty eight. So again they open up
six for six. The rest of the night after the
Celtics something switched in their mind, something switched in their effort,
something changed, and obviously maybe something changed for the Pacers
(01:37):
as well, maybe not shooting it with as much confidence
as they might have the rest of the night. They
shoot twelve for thirty eight, which I'll do the math
for you. That is only thirty one point six percent
from three point range. So the Boston Celtics figured it
(01:59):
out and it didn't take long, as opposed to Monday,
where it took them in a long time to be
able to shut it off. Whatever the Pacers had to
be outperforming their typical offensive and in particular three point
shooting performance. It took a while on Monday to turn
that off. It did not take long during this game,
and that is how the Boston Celtics got back into
(02:22):
this game. The Celtics put up the stop sign and
they went on their own run at the other end
of the court. They outscored Indiana by thirty three points
over the final three quarters of this game. During those
final three quarters, the Celtics scored one hundred and twelve points.
(02:43):
There are games where that is a good number. The
Celtics did that in three quarters tonight. Over the final
three of this game, they shot sixty two percent from
the field during that stretch. Over the final three quarters.
During the second period, they scored forty seven points during
those twelve minutes alone. That is their second highest scoring
(03:05):
quarter of the entire season. The only other one that
was higher was forty eight points during a game against
Orlando earlier this year. So the Celtics picked it up
on defense to shut that off. With the Indiana Pacers
and the confidence that they were displaying from long range,
which carried over from Monday, the Celtics shut that off
(03:28):
with their defense, and then at the other end of
the court, they just completely torched this Pacers defense with
unstoppable offense which had many different players contributing from top
to bottom. Let's roll through a few of them here
who deserve call outs during this show. First, let me
give you a quick word from our partner, Exfinity Mobile.

(04:13):
into our individual performances during this game, I've got to
call out Sam Hauser first and foremost, because, as I
said in our Keys to the Game on Celtics dot
Com after this contest, the Celtics offense is clearly one
of the best in the NBA period on a nightly basis,
When Sam Hauser has it clicking from beyond the arc,
(04:35):
they are borderline unstoppable. And that is exactly what happened tonight.
Sam Hauser comes out of the gates, checks in, hits
a couple three pointers in his first minute of action
during this game, and that rhythm just continued to carry
through for the rest of the night. He wound up
hitting his first seven shots from three point range and
(04:56):
finishes the night seven for eight from distance. He scored
twenty fi three points. That was a season high for him.
So twenty three points off the bench for Sam Hawser
that was by far the highest total of any reserve
in this game. Next highest total was Luca Garza with
fifteen off the bench for the Celtics. We'll get to
him in a minute, but always great to see Sam
(05:19):
Hauser catching his rhythm from distance. Obviously hasn't shot it
quite as well this season as we're all used to.
You know, he's typically low to mid forty percent for
his entire crewern you know, not quite at that number,
and that's okay, Like he's gonna have nights off and
he's adjusting to a new offense to new teammates. He's
(05:43):
only shooting bree point range for the season heading into tonight.
That number is certainly gonna bump up tonight. I bet
he's gonna be right around thirty eight percent after this one.
So great to see him finding his rhythm from distance,
and hopefully that will carry through for the entire long
road trip. The Boston Celtics just tipped off tonight. Another
guy we got to mention is Peyton Pritchard. He finishes
(06:04):
this game with twenty nine points, and much of his
work was done in the mid range. Like we always
talk about Jalen Brown's mid range game, the mid he
was cooking for Jalen Brown has been cooking all season long.
Peyton Prichard was unstoppable in the mid range game tonight.
Some beautiful moves. It's like he gets that little bump
with his shoulder, creates the space, and once he gets
(06:28):
within about ten to fifteen feet, it's like automatic for
this guy. On the broadcast tonight, Drew Carter and Brian
Scalabrini were talking about Peyton Pritcheard. It looked like he
was just playing in one of those pickup games, one
of those pro ams where he scored seventy eighty ninety
points during the offseason. That's what it looked like tonight,
how easy it was for him creating space within that
(06:49):
about fifteen foot barrier of the basket and just swishing
it home time after time after time en route to
his twenty nine points. He scored fourteen of those during
the second quarter to really be a key driver in
the Celtics turning these things, turning this game around. He
also was the closest to a double double of all
(07:10):
Celtics during this game. Grabbed nine rebounds, had one taken
away from him, he would have had that double double. Also,
just out five assists, grabbed a steal during this game.
So excellent performance from Peyton Prichard. With his twenty nine
point nine rebound effort, we also mentioned Jalen Brown in
his mid range game. He was great from all over
the court tonight winds up scoring thirty points on thirteen
(07:32):
for twenty shooting from the field. But what we have
to point out is that Jalen Brown only got to
thirty points for the eighth straight game by doing it
during the final thirty or so seconds that he was
on the court the Celtics. It was the fourth quarter.
Midway through the fourth quarter, the Celtics were up by
about twenty points. Joe Mizzoula had sent his reserves up
(07:53):
to the scorers table to check in. Surely, Jalen Brown
was about to check out to the game. He knew
where he was at. He had towe twenty four points
on the night. So during his final minute, excuse me,
during his final minute on the court during this game,
he chucks up a couple three pointers swishes both of
them home during that final minute on the court to
(08:15):
be able to reach that thirty point barrier for the
eighth straight game. He had a little bit of a
smile looking over at the bench after he made that
last one, like, yeah, guys, I knew I wanted to
get the thirty. I knew I needed these three pointers
and he did it. So another great performance from him.
He's got a chance to score thirty points in every
single game that he plays in this month. Pretty incredible stuff.
(08:39):
Two more games for the Boston Celtics here this month,
one coming up on Sunday, and then another one I
believe on the thirtieth for the Boston Celtics. That's correct, Sunday,
the twenty eighth against Portland, and then the thirtieth on
Tuesday out in Utah. So he's got a chance to
go for thirty in every single game that he plays
(09:01):
in this month. Let's see if he can pull it
off during these final two games of the month. I
guarantee you those defenses are going to be keyed in
on that they don't want that to happen against them.
Last guy we're gonna call out, as I mentioned earlier,
Luca Garza just always ready. He was ready again tonight,
delivered exactly what the Boston Celtics needed. Comes into this game,
(09:22):
scores fifteen points off the bench, did not miss a shot,
five for five from the field. So again fifteen points,
only took five shots, that is efficiency five for five
from the field, one to one from distance, four for
six from the free throw line. Just a great game
from him. Another four rebounds, a couple assists. He just
(09:44):
had that energy at the offense, on the offensive glass
again with a couple of offensive rebounds. A plus twenty
six during this game, so clearly, excuse me, the Boston
Celtics were at their best while Luca Garza was on
the cour Again, they outscored Indiana by twenty six points
while he was on the floor. Guess how many minutes
(10:05):
he played twenty six, So the Boston Celtics outscored the
Indiana Pacers by one point per minute that Luca Garza
was out there on the floor tonight. All right, let's
dive into a couple comments from our fans, shall we.
All right? Our first one is coming in from JT zero,
jbseven dot eh. And this one is about a little
(10:28):
dust up between TJ McConnell and Jordan Walsh. We're gonna
talk about that. And then our next one is from
Jake Irish about Peyton Pritchard and his pure talent that
he brings to the table on a nightly basis. Let's
dive into the first one.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
Here, My son's already in the car, Bye, I thank
you one.

Speaker 1 (11:16):
All right, after the final buzzer, I asked what you
loved most about this win? And this one came in
from JT zero jbseven dot Eth saying, McConnell, Dash Walsh,
let me give a little context to what is coming
up here that this fan loved most about this win.
All right. I sent this out on my ex if
(11:36):
you want to go and find it. It was during
the game, it says Jordan Walsh getting chippy, and then
Joe Missoula loving it. This happened with about a minute
and a half left in the third quarter of the
Celtics are up by twenty four points. At this point,
the game is over. We all know that the Celtics
aren't gonna blow a twenty plus point lead on the
road against this Pacers team during the fourth quarter, and
(11:59):
all of us, Jordan Walsh and TJ McConnell get into
a little bit of a tussle out there on the court.
All right. This reminded me and Drew Carter actually said
it on the broadcast as well reminded him of when
Jordan Walsh got into a little bit He got ejected
from a Summer League game for getting into a little
(12:19):
bit of a tussle during one of those games, him
just showing a little bit of bravado, a little bit
of cockiness, a little bit of animal inside him getting
into a little bit of an argument with an imposing player.
And that's exactly what happened again tonight. Now was it
his fault? Absolutely not. It certainly seemed like TJ McConnell
thought that he took a shot from Jordan Walsh, when
(12:41):
in fact it was a shot from his own teammate
who I think accidentally hit him in the head if
I remember correctly, But he thought it was Jordan Walsh
shoved him a little bit and then the two started
john at each other. As the game started to go
back in the opposite direction. The timeout had to be called,
the whistles had to be the refs had to interfere.
(13:02):
This went to a review with the referees went and
reviewed this and wound up assessing a technical foul to
each player. My guess is that Jordan Walsh is gonna
have that tech perscinded he didn't really do anything. Did
he talk a little bits as he was heading over
to the bench, Yeah, but I'm not sure he said anything.
(13:23):
Maybe he did, I don't know what he said, but
it seemed like he was certainly well with his within
his bounds, considering that it was TJ McConnell who shoved
him first, So we'll see what winds up with that.
But I loved seeing this energy as well, and most
importantly the person who loved it most is Joe Mizzoula.
(13:43):
He was slapping Jordan Walsh on the chest as Walsh
went over to the huddle and to sit on the
bench during the time out, and then after that he
actually came over and slapped him again a high five
for given that type of dog mentality and effort and
just attitude out there on the court. So Joe Missoula
(14:03):
absolutely loved what he saw from Jordan Walsh getting into
it a little bit. With TJ McConnell, who is known
for getting under other people's skin, it looked like in
this moment it was Jordan Walsh who was not only
not backing down, but maybe he was actually getting under TJ.
McConnell's skin a little bit. As we all may remember
(14:25):
during that Summer League game when Jordan Walsh got ejected
for doing a very similar thing. I think he picked
up his sixth foul or something like that. That's why
he got ejected. It wasn't because he did anything overboard,
but Joe Missoula actually, as Jordan Walsh revealed, he called him.
Joe Missoula called him after that and was basically saying,
(14:46):
I love this, I love you doing this, I love
you showing this type of attitude and mentality. And then
again we see it tonight, and Joe Mizzoula, yet again,
this time in a public setting, acknowledges it twice by
slapping him up as he goes to the Jordan Walsh
heads to the bench, and then again going over to
the bench and slapping him five as Jordan Walsh is
(15:06):
sitting there on the bench waiting for the time out
and for the review to happen. So I love seeing it.
It sounds like our fans love seeing it. Joe Mizoula
certainly love seeing it. And this is just another image
of what we're seeing Jordan Walsh turn into this season.
He can bring a lot to the table, and tonight
that was getting into it and getting a little rowdy
(15:28):
out there in Indiana against maybe the rowdiest player on
the Pacers in Team TJ McConnell. I just love the
fact that Jordan Walsh was not gonna back down, all right, folks.
Second and final comment of the night coming in from
Jake Irish, and this one, I'm only gonna read the
part that's relevant, and that is Prichard is pure talent,
(15:54):
Yes he is. How far are we from the beginning
of the season when there were people out there who
were saying Peyton Prichard isn't good enough to be starting
in the NBA. Do you all remember this? Do you
remember many people out there, including many in Celtics Nation,
(16:16):
questioning whether or not Peyton Pritchard was good enough at
both ends of the court to be a starting guard
in the NBA. Think about how far we are from
that right now? Peyton Pritchard is having an excellent season
and tonight was just the latest evidence of that, going
(16:37):
off for twenty nine points he bounds while also dishing
out five assists. Peyton Pritchard is having an unbelievable season.
He has certainly bounced back from that slow starts. Per game,
he's dishing out better than five assists per game, grabbing
more than four rebounds per use to but they have
(16:59):
been on the upslope all season long since that those
struggling role. He is unquestionably a starting level guard and
he just so happens to be picking up his game
as the Boston Celtics are promoting him as one of
their players that they want a season. Great to see
(17:21):
Peyton Pritchard avoiding all of the nonsense that was being
set about him early in the season and shutting all
up with his play, letting his play do the talking.
And there is no one, no one in the NBA,
in the fan bases, basketball followers around the world who
(17:41):
can question at this point whether or not he is
good enough to start in the NBA. He is, and
not only can he start in the NBA, but he
can start and he is starting in making an incredibly
high impact for one of the better teams in the NBA.
He's getting it done at both ends of the court.
(18:04):
He did it again tonight during this game in Indiana,
and something tells me that he's gonna have many more
nights like this, not only this season, but moving into
the future for the Boston Celtics. So that's the first
game of the road trip for the Boston Celtics. They
are one to zero. They took down the Pacers tonight
with an unbelievable offensive performance one hundred and forty points
(18:27):
during this first post Christmas road trip. Now the Celtics
are heading out to Portland to take on the Portland
Trail Blazers on Sunday. That'll be out in Portland and
taking on their former teammate who helped them win a
championship a couple seasons ago, in Drew Holliday. You'll be
able to catch that game on NBC Sports Boston. Tip
(18:47):
Off is at six o'clock on Sunday. We will not
have a sound off episode during that game. I apologize
for a couple of episodes not happening recently. I have
been under the weather. You can probably still hear that
in my voice. But Sunday's game was a scheduled game
for me to be off and with my family for
that game on Sunday, So I will not be around,
(19:09):
but I will be back for that Utah game on Tuesday.
So make sure you take a look and keep up
with me in my post after the final buzzer asking
what your takeaways were from that game. Let's hope the
Celtics continue this win streak on Sunday in Portland and
again I'll see you all Tuesday night game.
Speaker 2 (19:26):
Hi,
