the antelope was probably thirty yards thisside of that. So that was the

picked up a Montana rifle company thathad uh now, it was a poorly
performing two seventy short mag and Iended up having a smith put a twenty
five gap barrel on it. SoI'm gonna be I'm gonna run a twenty

I haven't. I haven't inletted thewood for that one yet, so I
haven't shot that one. I hada buddy talk me into he had the
Reamer, and so he talked meinto doing a twenty five unpacked buckbuster,
which is basically a two fifty sevenRoberts Acte shortened up two hundred thousands.

I forget what it is. Somewherearound two hundred. You do realize
how goofy this is at this point, right, Oh, it's an obsession.

know, the drill will twenty fivecaliber cartridges and bullets, is that there
really is not much in the wayof good long range high BC bullets generally
speaking. And that's primarily because there'snot much out there in factory guns that

has a high enough twist rate totake advantage of it. So I'm assuming
at this point, because you're buildingcustom rifles, you are going with a
higher twist rate and using some ofthe rarer high BC bullets and twenty five
caliber. Yeah, the ones whereI'm buying all the barrels. If I'm
buying the gun, it's usually aten twist. But if I'm buying the
barrels to put on the gun,it's an eight twist. And maybe they
(10:39):
do. I think somebody might beex Caliber is making a seven and a
half twist, and maybe some otherones are making a seven and a half.
But I don't see any reason togo heavier than one hundred and thirty
five grains. If I need togo more than one hundred and thirty five,
I'll go to sixty five. Butthat was the same way with the
six to five back in the mideighties. Your your bullet of choice with

a Remington, I mean that waswhat Oh yeah, First, the first
custom gun I had commission to havebuilt that I built around that bullet.
I was like, I want toshoot this bullet. Throwed it out this
far to the second candler. Theyhad two candlers on them. I seated
it out to the second counter.I said, throwed it out to this
and that was your choice of bulletback then. Now the six five is

It's hard for gray hair folks likeme to get over that thinking. And
now you could have a lower velocitycartridge with a high ballistical efficient bullet that

shoots much better. Not flatter,because flat doesn't really matter. But he
mentioned it's the wind and those highBC bullets they could cut your wind drift
in half, and that is enormous. Well, now, doesn't that also
equate to even though the maybe travelingslower your the bullet maybe trailing slower your

impact, it has more energy onimpact even though it's going slower than a
faster Yes, a good point.They don't give up. Energy is fast.
They don't slow to lose a velocityis fast. So you could actually
and we you know, you canrun the numbers of this. It's kind
of fun. Same cartridge, twodifferent bullets, and you can start them
off two hundred feet per second differentlyin velocity, and the high b C

bullet will match the velocity of thelower BC bullet somewhere in the five hundred
yard range, and after that it'sdoing even better and drifting a good bit
less the whole time. Yeah,science, Michelle, wake up. You

Well, I've had a two fiftyseven Roberts Actlee for a number of

years. I got another Savage intwenty five oh six that I've I've taken
a couple of antelope with that,and then just probably in the last year,
I've either commissioned custom builds or orhave bought twenty five caliber rifles like
their like their nuts. I boughta two fifty seven, whether it be

on a how or on a Vanguardaction. I bought let's see, I
picked up a Montana rifle company thathad uh now, it was a poorly
performing two seventy short mag and Iended up having a smith put a twenty
five gap barrel on it. SoI'm gonna be I'm gonna run a twenty
(08:46):
I haven't. I haven't inletted thewood for that one yet, so I
haven't shot that one. I hada buddy talk me into he had the
Reamer, and so he talked meinto doing a twenty five unpacked buckbuster,
which is basically a two fifty sevenRoberts Acte shortened up two hundred thousands.

I think actually it's shortened up.It's either shortened up or two oh one.
I forget what it is. Somewherearound two hundred. You do realize
how goofy this is at this point, right, Oh, it's an obsession.
Obsession. I mean, I thoughtI was bad. Man, You're

making me feel good. The lastone I just did is I picked up
a twenty five GPC, which is, uh, that's for an ar platform.
That's a six point eight SPC case. Uh, necked up and improved
or necked down and improved a twentyfive cow. All I have to say

for you is seek help. Yes. Now. The thing is, you
know, the drill will twenty fivecaliber cartridges and bullets, is that there
really is not much in the wayof good long range high BC bullets generally
speaking. And that's primarily because there'snot much out there in factory guns that
(10:16):
has a high enough twist rate totake advantage of it. So I'm assuming
at this point, because you're buildingcustom rifles, you are going with a
higher twist rate and using some ofthe rarer high BC bullets and twenty five
caliber. Yeah, the ones whereI'm buying all the barrels. If I'm
buying the gun, it's usually aten twist. But if I'm buying the
barrels to put on the gun,it's an eight twist. And maybe they
(10:39):
do. I think somebody might beex Caliber is making a seven and a
half twist, and maybe some otherones are making a seven and a half.
But I don't see any reason togo heavier than one hundred and thirty
five grains. If I need togo more than one hundred and thirty five,
I'll go to sixty five. Butthat was the same way with the
six to five back in the mideighties. Your your bullet of choice with
(11:01):
a Remington, I mean that waswhat Oh yeah, First, the first
custom gun I had commission to havebuilt that I built around that bullet.
I was like, I want toshoot this bullet. Throwed it out this
far to the second candler. Theyhad two candlers on them. I seated
it out to the second counter.I said, throwed it out to this
and that was your choice of bulletback then. Now the six five is
(11:26):
flooded with good bullets. Yeah,that changed, so much time. Time
for me to leave, I'll goto the twenty five caliber. Well,
look, good luck on the school. I think it's fabious you're going to
take this class, and you're right. Learning to read the wind and shoot
in the wind is the thing,especially since you live in Wyoming where you
know, it's like that old jokethe guy says, you know, does

a wind blow this way all thetime? The guy says, now,
sometimes it blows the other way.So I mean that's Wyoming. So but
yeah, do this. Do usa favor. After the class, whether
it's the next under your sometime,give us a call back and let us
know how it went, what youlearned, and if you think you're a

Appreciate that, sir. Wow,that guy is ate up with twenty
five, isn't he? He isubsessed. You might have gotten into the
geeky woods a little bit. Wemay have gone down into the rabbit hole
of gun geekering. Uh huh,Yes, you need that every once in
a while. Well, all thosethings matter, especially when you're doing long

range. Well that's it. Itall matters, doesn't it. It sure
does. And he's got some nicefresh ammo to go and try. Yeah,
well, what would you or anybodyin your family know about long range
shooting? Come on, she's justshooting in generally. She had just left
it there. Yes, you guysreally should get into this whole sport.
You know, we just started understandingsome of this stuff. What did he

say, just not only you marriedto you produced one of the better shooters
out there when it comes to longrange shooting. So there you go.
So well that was fun. Iguess I was the influence on him on
the twenty five calibers because I talkabout those a good bit. I likes
(13:18):
the two fifty seven weather. Theproblem is that, like I said,
the real issue is bullets. Igrew up in an era when high velocity
was how you got long range.Yes, and that's simply not true.
It's hard for gray hair folks likeme to get over that thinking. And
now you could have a lower velocitycartridge with a high ballistical efficient bullet that
(13:43):
shoots much better. Not flatter,because flat doesn't really matter. But he
mentioned it's the wind and those highBC bullets they could cut your wind drift
in half, and that is enormous. Well, now, doesn't that also
equate to even though the maybe travelingslower your the bullet maybe trailing slower your
(14:05):
impact, it has more energy onimpact even though it's going slower than a
faster Yes, a good point.They don't give up. Energy is fast.
They don't slow to lose a velocityis fast. So you could actually
and we you know, you canrun the numbers of this. It's kind
of fun. Same cartridge, twodifferent bullets, and you can start them
off two hundred feet per second differentlyin velocity, and the high b C
(14:26):
bullet will match the velocity of thelower BC bullet somewhere in the five hundred
yard range, and after that it'sdoing even better and drifting a good bit
less the whole time. Yeah,science, Michelle, wake up. You
know why she's feigning to be snoringbecause she already knows all this. I'm

going with the Joe Biden because i'dlike to do that. I'm filling in

think, Jim, you're on theright page. Obviously, safety, there's
some rules you have to learn beforeyou even get out there. But I
think the BB gun is perfect,perfect introduction, and then going into you
know, BB public gun and thenworking into a twenty two side for her
and then great, probably step upto howitzer or something. Yeah, oh
absolutely, yeah, and then livegrenades for sure. Sure, safety being

She's an intellectual sponge. She justgrasps knowledge and uses it. And
