Speaker 2 (00:14):
He was the first and he's still the best. For
thirty years, Tom Gresham has been your trusted source on
all things ballistic, new guns, Second Amendment, personal protection, be
part of it, Paul, Tom Talk Gun Now here's Tom.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
Well, all right, let's do this thing. You know, we
made it unbelievable. Hey, I'm Tom Gresham, by the way,
and this show is called gun Talk because that's pretty
much all we do. We talk about guns. Sometimes we'll
veer into other things, but mostly it's guns and AMMO
and shooting and rifles and pistols and shotguns in the
Second Amendment, of course, and gun rights and all the
(00:53):
other things that are going on. Of course, we'll talk
about the ansalary parts of that media average pedia lies.
I got some information about that in a minute. But
if you would grant me just a little bit of
personal privilege today because today is the official we have
passed thirty years on the air day. The actual date
(01:15):
is March fifth. The first show was March fifth, nineteen
ninety five, had no idea what I was doing, just
kind of made it up as I went. No different
from today, it's still make it up as I go.
I don't know what about. You know, the first two
shows I did, I recorded them to sem to a
friend of mine who was in the radio business. He said, well,
(01:36):
you know, it sounds like you're reading the opening monologue.
I said, well, I am. He says, well, don't do that.
He says, you know this stuff, you don't have to
write it out and read anyone, Okay. And that was
the last I ever did of reading anything on the air.
I just yamh her. So it's one of those deals,
if you know, for better or for worse, if it works,
if for enough people like it, it'll work. If they don't,
(01:58):
they won't. And there you go. So wow, thirty years
on the air. If you want to join me, if
you want to talk about that, if you want to
talk about maybe how much you have listened to Gun
Talk by all means, give me a call. Today is
your day eight six' six Talk gun Or Tom Talk. Gun,
now let me share with your story THAT i don't
(02:20):
THINK i have actually explained on the. Air before of
WHY i actually started this, show and you know why
are you know the? How and we'll talk about that
a little bit more later on the show With Alan
gottlieve and how it all came about here was a
conversation at The shots, Show but the why is a different.
Thing remember the timeframe nineteen ninety, five and we'll talk
(02:44):
about that a bit today. Too The congress had just
passed The Clinton Gun band in nineteen ninety, four the
year before the so called assault Weapon, band and leading
up to, that and this is the important. Part leading
up to, that there was all sorts of media coverage
of assault, weapons this assault weapon that it was all so,
(03:09):
funny it was all so. Dishonest it was also full of.
Lies and at the, TIME i was writing a, column
a monthly column For guns And ammo about The Second.
Amendment but you, know when you're writing In guns And,
ammo you're all you're doing is reaching gun, people and
only a, tiny tiny fraction of gun. People AND i
(03:32):
watched a report ON cnn about assault, weapons and the
crux of the story was how often so called assault
weapons are used in crime and they were responsible for
such a large percentage of crimes And i'm listening to,
(03:55):
This i'm, THINKING i know that's not. TRUE i, MEAN
i know for THAT i figures that's not. True and
THEN cnn went further and they, said, well this is
according to.
Speaker 4 (04:10):
THE.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
ATF i, said. Huh and then they went even further
and they actually actually listed the name of the agent
who said this and quoted him on. THIS i, went,
well that's. Interesting, so being the tenacious little bs ear
THAT i, AM i, said, well let's go find this
(04:31):
guy and find out why he said. That it took
me a, while CALLED, dc tracked him, down finally found the,
agent got him on the. Phone nobody else was going
to do, this AND i talked to the. Guy he
was not. Happy here's what he told. Me he, says you,
(04:52):
Know i've never spoken with anybody FROM. Cnn and of
course at that, point bells are going off with my,
head ding ding. Ding WHAT cnn quoted? You? Man he, Says, No,
No i've never talked to anybody FROM. Cnn he, Says
and IF i had spoken with, THEM i would have
(05:13):
said exactly the. Opposite that these rifles are rarely used in.
Crime they are at such a small, number it is statistically.
Insignificant you can't even find it in the background. Noise
SO cnn made up the, quote made up the stat
(05:37):
and lied about the whole. Thing. MAN i was, frustrated
because what do you go? Do put it in guns
and ammol, Great BUT i, said, Well i'll chase it.
Down SO i started CONTACTING cnn week after week after.
WEEK i CALLED cnn talk to. People took about two,
months maybe two and a half. MONTHS i finally got
(05:58):
somebody there and plain the whole thing and they, went,
wow that's that's not. Good our reporter made up a.
Quote we're gonna look into. That, YEAH i bet you.
Are they, said, well you, know, well finally they, said,
yeah it turns out he was a kind of a
(06:20):
part time. Reporter he made that, up and we're going
to do an on air. Retraction never saw. That but
this was just part of what was going, on and
the public believed every bit of it because there was
no way for them to get any other information about.
This there was no place for them to. GO i,
(06:41):
mean unless you're a gun. Person you're Reading guns AND
ammo or you, Know Guns illustrated Or Shooting, Illustrator Stoodent
times or, something you, know and that's what of the
gun owners Of. America forget what the percentage is of,
people the. Voters so they simply believed, It, oh assault
weaponry used in. Crime they're responsible for all these murders
(07:03):
BECAUSE i saw it, there and THE atf, says, so
THE cnn, said THE atf, said, though so they even
named The asian who said, that how are you going
to fight? That, well we didn't have a mass media.
Outlet we had. Nothing that's why that is WHY i.
Created that is WHY i decided THAT i would in
(07:25):
fact do gun, talk because we needed a mass media,
outlet something that reached out and grabbed. People they didn't
have to come select self, select they didn't have to
be gun people who are reading a gun. Magazine NOW
cnn did it again a little bit. Later the Reporter John's,
Lorella i'm down In. FLORIDA i think he's still with
seeing him faking. Stories and they had a cop shooting
(07:52):
quote unquote assault weapon and shooting another, rifle both of,
them a shooting two two three. Mo wait for. It
this is really. Good and they showed that when they
shot a cinder block with the assault, weapon it just
blasted the cinder block to, crumbs it's. Pieces but when
(08:14):
they shot another cinder block just like that with two
two THREE, amo same, ammo right out of a rifle
that wasn't an assault, weapon you couldn't see any damage
to the cinder block at, all thus showing just how
powerful these evil assault weapons. Were of, course it was all.
(08:38):
Faked and to his, CREDIT i will say. THIS a
couple of days, Later Wayne lapierrez being the interviewer live ON,
cnn and he called for the firing Of John sorella
for faking the. STORY cnn had such a hissy fit
they cut off the. Interview they, said you can't say
that about our. Reporter you can't say he faked. It
(09:00):
so clearly ef faked. It clearly it's. Faked if you
shoot the same bullet at the same, speed it hits
the same, target it does the same amount of, damage
regardless of the firearm it came out.
Speaker 5 (09:11):
Of.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
Man, SO i, mean that's, it and it's still going on.
Today what was it?
Speaker 6 (09:17):
On?
Speaker 3 (09:17):
In nine years? Ago Katie kirk faked a. Story she's
interviewing people from The Virginia Citizens Defense fund THERE, vcdl
and they inserted a nine second pause when she, said,
well you know how in the world if you don't
have a background, check how can you prevent terrorists from
getting a. Gun, well in the actual, interview they answered right,
(09:39):
away but when they edited, it the editors cut in
a video of these people FROM vcdl just looking around
the room and looking down and clearing their throats and
clearly unable to answer this tough question From Katie. Kirk,
well that video was done before the. Interview there's something
(10:00):
they call room. Tone they always want to record an empty,
room just get the background noise and. Stay they, say
everybody be, Quiet we're just gonna. Record we're gonna roll
cameras or body quiet for thirty. Seconds we're gonna get room. Tone,
well they used the room tone video and inserted it
in to make it look like these gun people couldn't
answer this tough question That Katie kirk had given. Him
(10:24):
it was. Faked it's what they do and what they
continue to do even, today and it's why gun talk
is so. Important it's why we reach out for. This
tell you what we're going to come. BACK i also
want to share with you how it backfired on. Them
the passage of The Bill clinton gun band backfired in
(10:45):
a way that The democrats never. Imagine we'll have that
for you when we come back right here on Gun.

Speaker 3 (13:26):
All right, Back whether You're Tom grasher made sixty Six
Talk gun Or Tom Talkgun talk about nineteen ninety. Five
nineteen ninety four the passage of The clinton gun ban
so called assault weapon. Ban and if there's a great
example of the concept of unintended. Consequences in nineteen ninety,
four The democrats that had control Of congress for four,
(13:51):
decades they had had control Of congress for forty. Years
The republicans couldn't even imagine ever being anything but the
min alority. Party but and this is, beautiful the hubris
of The democrats when they passed The gunman and the
(14:12):
only way they could get it passed was The republicans, said,
well we want to put in there a sunset provision that,
is after ten, years this law goes. Away The democrats,
will big, deal let's voted back, in, well renew. It
we've had control Of congress for forty, Years we're going
to have control Of congress. Forever didn't work out that,
(14:37):
way As Bill clinton actually documented and admitted in the
nineteen ninety Five state of The union. Address Here's Bill.
Speaker 4 (14:48):
CLINTON i don't want to destroy the good atmosphere in
the room or in the country, tonight BUT i have
to mention one issue that divided this body greatly last.
Year the Last congress also passed the, bill and in
The Crime, bill the ban on nineteen assault. WEAPONS i
don't think it's a secret to anybody in this room
(15:09):
that several members of the Last congress who voted for
that aren't here tonight because they voted for. It AND
i know therefore that some of you who are here
because they voted for it are under enormous pressure to repeal.
(15:32):
IT i just have to tell you HOW i feel about,
it the members Of congress who voted for that, bill
AND i would never do anything to infringe on the
right to keep and bear, arms to, hunt and to
engage in.
Speaker 3 (15:48):
Other appropriate sporting.
Speaker 4 (15:49):
Activities i've done it SINCE i was a, boy And
i'm going to keep right on doing it until i
can't do it. Anymore but people laid down their seats
In congress so that police officers and kids wouldn't have
to lay down their lives under a hail of assault weapon.
Speaker 3 (16:09):
Attack AND i will not let that be. REPEATED i will.
Not did you catch, that he? Says you know, What
i'm second to no one in my support of The
Second amendment right to keep him their arms for hunting
and for other sporting, purposes, which of, course hunting and
(16:32):
sporting purposes have nothing to do with The Second. Amendment
second members about defending our country against, tyranny possibly from
tyranny from, within and also about self defense personal. Protection
you'll also notice of what he was saying was The
democrats lost control Of congress because you voted for gun.
(16:56):
Control AND i love. That there was a little bit
of clap got there when he, said we know there's
some people who lost their seats because they voted for gun.
Control and then he, said you, know, WELL i don't
want you, to you, know feel like you know you
should back away from gun. Control of, course these members Of,
congress The, democrats are sitting there looking at each, other,
GOING i am not going to give up my seat for.
(17:18):
THIS I am not going to fall on my, sword
lose my, perks lose my millions of dollars as we're
coming to find out now that are coming to me
in my pocket because of this SEAT i have, here
and the graph THAT i can, do and the ngs
THAT i can create for my wife to run and
(17:39):
pull money from the federal government to put in our personal.
Pockets i'm not going to lose this seat because you
want me to vote for gun. Control and so nothing
happened for quite a. While they wouldn't vote for. It
they ran away from it because they knew that it
was a losing. Proposition now memories, fade The democrats are.
Back they're trying to do the same. Thing it's our
(17:59):
job to make sure they understand the lessons of, history
which is you vote for gun control and you will
lose your. Seat and the only way that happens is
if you AND i get, involved let somebody else do.
It how do you get. Involved you've got to be
involved in. Elections people, GO i hate, politics, no And i'm, Sorry,
no that's. Childless you can't do. That you got to be.
(18:21):
Involved you either get involved and decide what's going to be,
done or somebody else is going to decide what's done to.
You it also means given. Money just that's how things.
Work it's how it. Works and, so of, course ten years,
later when it came time to renew the gun, ban
(18:41):
the unintended consequences are The democrats had lost control Of
congress and they still hadn't gotten it back ten years,
later and so The clinton gun, ban so called assault weapon,
ban actually did sunset and has never been brought, back
although they just introduced In congress this past week be
able to bring it, back so it never goes. Away
(19:02):
it never give up on pushing for gun. Bands all,
right let's go to the. Phones here line For jerry
is with us out Of West. Virginia, Hey, jerry what's
this a crazy? Story what? HAPPENED i?
Speaker 11 (19:15):
BOUGHT i bought a seventy One Buick. Skylark of course
it was, junked you, know but that a really nice.
Interior and a buddy of mine has a seventy One
Buick SKYLARK gs and parts of his interior was kind of.
Cretty SO i bought the old junk card AND i
was stripping the interior out of it WHEN i took the
(19:36):
back seat. Out underneath the back seat and looked like
a leg of a fair blue jeans somebody cut off
and made into a gun case was twenty Two remington Field.
MASTER i don't know nothing about the, gun but outside
of the, bunch it shoots really. Good. MAN i was
(19:58):
wondering if you could tell me something about the.
Speaker 3 (20:00):
Game, well those are very nice. Guns, actually it's the
model five seventy two Field. Master you can look it
up On google or whatever you used to do. Searches
you can find out a good bit about. It, uh
they still are pretty, popular people like them heading To
maiden quite a. While but is that let me ask,
you is the rifle in decent? Shape BECAUSE i would
(20:22):
think if it's been sitting in a car could have
gotten pretty rusty or.
Speaker 11 (20:24):
Something oh LIKE i, said the car was.
Speaker 2 (20:30):
Here it was really.
Speaker 11 (20:31):
NICE i mean even the cart was.
Speaker 3 (20:33):
Nice oh, Man And i'm sorry we got all of
a sudden your phone went on walking on. Me but, yeah,
okay so the gun was, nice car was. Nice you
got a nice rifle, there remedon Field. Master there is
nothing wor wrong with. That it's kind of a piece
of history that you could, shoot which is one of
the things we do with our. Guns so weird story, Though,
uh you, know people.
Speaker 5 (20:53):
Do.
Speaker 3 (20:54):
LOOK i appreciate the call people find guns in interesting.
Places people buy homes and find unstuck in an attic
or in a closet or behind. Walls even it's pretty.
INTERESTING a good reason for you to have a safe
where you can put your guns and you know where
they all. Are don't be stashing them all over the.
(21:14):
Place if you move out or you sell a car
and you GO i FORGOT i had a gun in,
there that's not a good place to be keeping your.
Gun you're. Safe it's a good place to keep your.
Guns and then you use dessgons to make sure they don't.
Rust there's a thing called rust. Blocks they look like
a little. Wheat then chips you can get from brown.
ELS i love those. Things they give out a gas
(21:35):
that prevents guns from. Rusting you just sprinkle around inside
your safe AND i put some new ones in the
area once a. Year and of course you could use
a golden rod to humidifier and you're safe as. Well
but taking care of your, guns you, know if you
take care of, them that lasts pretty much. Forever it's
an amazing. Thing, anyway come, BACK i want to talk
a little bit about this trend of long range competition
(21:58):
shooting and how does that right to. Hunting and Then
i've got three words that will help you make the
shots you need to make when you're. Hunting three little
words that are going to make you a better and
more successful. Hunter, hey welcome back to Gun. Talk Tom. Gresham.
(22:23):
Here we're talking about thirty years of gun, talk well
actually pretty much this. Week and one of the THINGS
i was thinking about is the way that competition shooting has.
CHANGED i, mean we had bullseye, pistol we had bitch
ress shooting and maybe the beginnings of uspsa action, pistol
but not a lot. Else and now we've got all
this long rain. Shooting and wanted to get our Friend
(22:43):
Kevin jarniga AND kJ from The Gun talk team in
here because he has been crazy enough to enter that. WORLD,
kJ what do you do and spending all this money
and beating up your?
Speaker 12 (22:51):
BODY i finally got to a point where it was,
like you know, what you need to test your skills
against other shooters and find out what other shooters do
are doing out there to enhance their. Skills and that's
that's the whole reason behind me getting into long range.
Speaker 3 (23:05):
Shooting there's really no other way to know how good
you are other than going and putting it to the.
Test is?
Speaker 12 (23:11):
There there's really no, better better thing than competition to
really bring out your skills as a shooter and really
learning how good these guys really are is.
Speaker 3 (23:23):
Unbelievable, yeah it's like you, Going, OKAY i THOUGHT i
was a pretty decent, shot and then you get out
with these people and you're, GOING i know.
Speaker 12 (23:32):
Nothing i'm very much an infant in this world of
long range, shooting and it's really has, Exploded tom AND
i love to see it because everybody's. Welcoming you, know
all the competitions That i've, DONE i have gotten so
much information over those competitions that it really has enhanced
(23:52):
the WAY i shoot and the WAY i.
Speaker 3 (23:54):
Hunt describe because there are various types of long range shooting.
Competitions talk about the one that you're doing primarily.
Speaker 12 (24:01):
Now, well the One i'm doing primarily now is CALLED Nrl,
hunter So National Rifle League hunter, matches and these are
all it's kind of a kickoff of THE, prs The
Precision Rifle, series where you are shooting longer ranges most
of the times out to one thousand yards on some,
stages but anywhere as close as two hundred. Yards so
(24:25):
you go up and it's a blind, stage so you
know the targets you're looking, for and that is. It
so you go up to a. Stage you have four
minutes to complete the, stage which seems like an, eternity
but it goes quick.
Speaker 3 (24:39):
Because you've got to find the. Targets you don't even
know where they. Are they're out there somewhere and so
now you start using your hunter, skills you're spotting. Skills
are you using? Binoculars what are you used to find the?
Speaker 12 (24:51):
Targets, Yeah i've been using a pair of bino range finding.
Binoculars so that's with a rangefinder built. In that's the
most efficient way you can do. It it really is
about testing your limits and testing your.
Speaker 11 (25:07):
Skill it's not a.
Speaker 12 (25:09):
Game and a lot of guys in LIKE prs, matches you,
know they typically get titled like gamers like you Can,
okay IF i get the right, GEAR i can compete in.
This this Is i've seen guys compete with very minimal
and do really. Well And i've seen guys myself have
(25:29):
really really good equipment and not fare so.
Speaker 3 (25:32):
Well so what skills have you picked up from this
competition that have helped you with your?
Speaker 12 (25:39):
Hunting win is everything. Wind understanding wind will win you
matches and it'll allow you to close the deal on
those game animals because when that wind picks up to
fifteen to twenty five miles an, hour there is a
big jump in what your hold on is when and
(26:01):
the other thing is really your efficiency and movement and
setting up on an animal or a. Target if you
can be more. Efficient you have more time to get
locked into your position before you take that.
Speaker 3 (26:18):
Shot because it's interesting you say, that BECAUSE i know
people who get into hunting and it's like you, go,
okay there's the, deer or go, ahead get, ready and
it's like they're taking forever to get the gun off their,
shoulder to try to work around in the you, know
to try to get down into a shooting position to
try to find and you're going just shooting For god's.
Speaker 12 (26:38):
Sake everything really ends up slowing. Down the more you,
compete the slower it. Becomes and so this, year you,
know on my, hunt on a white tail, HUNT i
was set, UP i was ready to. GO a deer
came out AND i had the shot closed in less
than thirty. Seconds because OF i knew those those fluid
(27:00):
moments and. Everything it just flooded back and it was
almost LIKE i was in a, competition but everything slowed.
Speaker 3 (27:08):
Down sure you got the, skills, okay because the skill
of what we're talking about is being able to get
the rifle if it's on your shoulder or in your, pack,
whatever get it, out get it, loaded get down to
a shooting, position find the, target and get the shot,
off and if the more you practice, it the better
you get At so tell me real quick run down
the gear you're shooting right. Now, rifle cartridge?
Speaker 11 (27:27):
Scope, okay rifle.
Speaker 12 (27:29):
Carterscope i'm shooting a six creed more and that's kind
of the standard IN nrol. Competitions And i'm shooting a
Loophole mark four five or six to. Eighteen not a big,
optic you, know it's pretty small considering most guys will
shoot five to twenty. Five and then my rifle is
(27:50):
a surgeon action on AN MDT Acc gen two stock or.
Speaker 3 (27:57):
Chassis would you say that this kind of competition has
made you a better, shooter a better? Hunter, oh one hundred.
Speaker 11 (28:05):
Percent.
Speaker 12 (28:06):
Uh i'm no longer scared of the beef when it goes,
OFF i just. Go you know, WHAT i know the,
PROCESS i know What i've got to get done and
in the order of which it needs to be. Done
and so it's maybe a more calm. Shooter i'm not as,
Rushed i'm not As i'm more, Calm if that makes.
Speaker 3 (28:24):
Sense. Yep has it changed your maximum distance that you'll
take a shot on a live?
Speaker 12 (28:30):
ANIMAL i wouldn't say. THAT i wouldn't say it has changed.
THAT i still have very strict standards when it comes
to you, know what Position i'm shooting in that really
dictates the distance of shot That i'm going to take
on an. Animal i'm pretty picky when it comes to.
That i'd much rather close that distance than open that distance.
Speaker 3 (28:53):
Up, well that's the difference between being a hunter and a.
Shooter he. CASEY i appreciate. It we got to scoot
out of, Here Kevin. Jarnigan and if it wants to
see what you're up, to you're doing lots of. Videos
they had Gun. Talk you can find them on YouTube
and at gun talk dot com and gun talk dot
tv and all the other places you got, videos, Right.
Speaker 12 (29:12):
Yeah they're all up, there and we keep putting out
more and. More, Man, Hey, TOM i do want to
say congrats on thirty. Years you make a difference in
so many people's.
Speaker 3 (29:21):
Lives, WELL i sure appreciate. That and you guys are
doing great work down there At Range Rated. Studios Kevin,
jarnigan thank you so. Much all, right don't go. Far
Gun talk will be right.

only takes one person to make a, difference and nothing
compares to your loyalty and dedication towards the firearm. Industry,
Tom you're truly a pioneer using the radio to, teach,
inspire and yes at times enable your, listeners all while
(31:54):
highlighting the positives our rights and freedom to. Provide do
you have tamp and our industry for the years With
Gun talk? Graduation, HEY i know that.
Speaker 3 (32:06):
Woman didn't know that was gonna be. Happening thanks, Guys thank, You,
michelle that's all the sweet of. You welcome back to Gun.
Talk pretty easy to reach. This if you want to
be part of the, show call me right, Now tom talk?
Gun how easy is? That and, really you know, what
it doesn't matter what you want to talk. About if it's,
guns we'll talk. About if you if you don't even like,
guns if we don't like gun, owners if you think
we ought to have more gun, CONTROL i will give
(32:29):
you the. Floor you can have your. SAY i, Mean
i'm gonna want to know why that seems. Reasonable but
you Know i'm not going to cut you off or
shout you. Down we don't do that around. Here give
me a, Call tom talk. Gun pretty. Easy we ran
The we just did an interview With Kevin. Jarnagan and
(32:51):
this long range, shooting it's not a, fad it's a,
growth it's, interest it's. Fun it's a lot of fun
and very challenging targets at long. Range BUT i do
think it is in many ways harming a lot of.
Hunters and here's WHAT i mean by. That when you
(33:12):
get out there and you're trying to hit a target
at a thousand yards and it's, hard trust, Me and
you got your super duper. Scope you had a two
pound scope when it's got knobs all over the, place
and you got dials to, twirl and you got your,
kestrel measuring the wind and doing computations and checking out
The coriolis effect and the spin of the earth and
spin drift on your, bullet and this and that and everything.
(33:34):
Else that's all. Fun that's, fun geeky stuff and trying
to make that hit out there on steel or ring the.
Steel but if it's an elk out, there and you
see the, elk and now you, SAY, Whoa, OKAY i
GOTTA i got to get my bipod to fold it.
Out and NOW i gotta get my range finder on.
(33:54):
Him and NOW i got to get my kestrel out
and find out what the wind's. Doing and NOW i
got a, dial the dials, IN i got to get the,
DROP i got a die in the, wind and he's
two hundred and fifty yards. OUT i got three words for.
You just shoot. It there's a reason that a lot
(34:17):
of very experienced hunters don't have all that stuff on their.
Gun Richard man just put out something on His Empty
cases newsletter, today talk about how go for simple simple,
gun simple rifle or three to nine variable with no
twisty dials on, IT a simple, rifle lightweight that you can,
(34:39):
carry not a ten twelve thirteen pound. Monstrosity it's got
doodads and stuff all over. It you, know it's the
ninety ten. Rule you. Know are you called eighty? TWENTY
i don't. Care are you trying to make sure that
you can handle the ten percent shot or probably more
(35:04):
like the two percent shot four hundred yards from beyond
when ninety ninety five percent of the shots are going
to be inside of three hundred yards, Probably and now
you've got all the stuff you're carrying, around it's slowing it,
down and it's making you, tired and it makes it
harder for you to get on target. Quickly it is
(35:27):
so frustrating for me to see somebody out there trying
to figure out how to get his gun on. TARGET
i can't find. HIM i can't do. THIS i got.
THIS i gotta twist. This oh my. God you, KNOW
i don't have a round in the. Chamber oh my,
god we were in the middle of all these. Animals
you don't have a round in the. Chamber three? Words
just shoot? It how do you do? That you go
(35:49):
back to old? School, YEAH i, KNOW i. Know people,
say oh he's a fun, yep. Real Sometimes i'm old.
SCHOOL i like things at work and are. Simple if
you got something like a six or, two seven or
SEVEN prc or sixty, FIVE i don't care what it,
is sight it in one hundred, yards have the bullet
hitting three inches above your point of aim at one
(36:11):
hundred yards three inches high at one hundred. Yards that
puts you onto three hundred. Yards it might drop two.
Inches or here here's the. Deal take out a dollar,
bill fold it in. Half that's three. Inches now take
that folded and a half dollar bill and slap it
on your chest and look at. That do you think
(36:31):
you're going to miss the deer or an elk because
you're three inches off at three hundred. Yards, no you're.
Not sight in three three inches high one hundred yards
and out to three hundred or even three hundred and fifty.
Yards hold on the animal and press the. Trigger just shoot.
(36:52):
It go for, simple simple will get you your deer
or your, elk or your moose or your. Pronghorn and
if he's further than, that if you got your lady
to range, fighter so it's four hundred, yards if you
have looked at your drop tables and you go almost
certainly you still want to be aiming at, hair don't,
(37:14):
dial hold one inch below the back. Line that, way
if you somehow have screwed up on the estimate of
the drange and he's closer than you, thought you still
hit the. Spine hold one inch below the back. Line
under the spine at four hundred, yards the bullet will
(37:35):
drop six to twelve. Inches you'll still get your animal.
Again don't, dial just. Shoot AND i get people, go,
oh you don't, understand you, know with today's modern, cartridges
and that we can. Do yes you, Can yes you,
can and if you're good, enough more power to. You
BUT i would say that ninety eight percent of the
(37:58):
hunters would be better off getting the rifle off their
shoulder and into a shooting position and trying to drive
fire get a shot off in fifteen, seconds because a
lot of it takes them a minute to get the
gun off the, shoulder to get everything worked, out to
get dialed, in to get their, tripod to get the
(38:19):
a tripod or a bipod or. Whatever just flop over
the backpack and get on the animal and press the.
Trigger he's ninety five, yards he's fifty five. Yards you
don't need a. Rest shoot off hand. Shooting oh, Yeah
one other, thing if you want to add something to
your rifle to really make it, better just get a good.
TRIGGER a lot of rifles so they do come with good,
(38:39):
triggers but if your's, doesn't get yourself a good. Trigger
that's where you can put money that. Does you're good
on every, shot doesn't matter what the range, is and
it really helps you with off hand. Shots so my
three words of. Advice when you see that, animal if
you've sighted in three inches high at one hundred, yards
just shoot. It guarantee it'll. Work all, Right let's go
(39:10):
straight to the. Phones lyne three bills with us out Of.
Missouri Hey, bill you got a question for me here
SOMEWHERE i, Believe.
Speaker 6 (39:16):
WELL i just what you were talking about. About don't dial.
SHOOT i shoot prairie dogs every. Year and if you
THINK i have time to dial forever prairie, Dog holy, Smokes,
yeah not gonna. Happen know what your gun's, doing and
know where you got to hold for crying out. Loud
i've been doing this for fifty. Years but WHAT i
(39:37):
wanted to tell you is shooting prairie. DOGS i took
a new guy last, year and he brought his two
or four rigor and it was doing pretty. Good it's
about two. Fifty SO i started on a new. Quest
i've been loading for fifty. YEARS i, thought you know
WHAT i can get it two twenty three stepping almost
near two of four rigger. Speed So i'm loading a
(39:59):
little Thirty varmit grenades with some h three three five,
right And i'm And i'm touching thirty nine hundred AND
i just put a can on that. Gun and, Boy
i'm telling, you it's like a pellet. Gun.
Speaker 3 (40:13):
Yeah the only THING i would worry, about and you
know this because you've got the, experience is when you're
using those thirty or thirty five ring. Bullets you talk
about being blown around the. Wind you got nothing that's
fighting the wind for you out, there do?
Speaker 11 (40:25):
You?
Speaker 6 (40:27):
No, no it's it's going to be a short range.
Only you, know if it's, Longer i'm going to pull
out the two two Four valkyrie or the six Five Creed.
Speaker 3 (40:35):
More there you. Go you know you know what you?
NEED a two twenty, Swift my, Partner.
Speaker 6 (40:40):
Well i'll tell you What i've Been i've been kicking
that around along with the twenty two two. Fifties, now
whether it be just brought back their.
Speaker 3 (40:50):
Varmater, yes the two four two to four, weather but,
yes that's a. Yeah there's a lot of good choices out,
there and when you're reload you can you can actually
make a cartridge something. Else, BILL i appreciate the, calls.
SIR i use those super light bullets and push them.
Fast it's. Fun but they do get blown around the
wind because they have no really really low ballistic. Coefficient
(41:11):
they're just not great for. That longer bullets will hold
their velocity out there and be pushed around by the.
WINDS i mean like half half the wind drift and
maybe less than half the wind. Drift it's just. Amazing
so it's a good idea to get out your bulistic
computer or go. ONLINE i USE jmb jbmballistics dot com
(41:32):
AND i look up all the, time looking up drop
tables and wind drift and everything, else so you can
play with. That it's just kind of fun to do
all the what if stuff out. There it's got email From.
Chris he says you had me at this is gun.
Talk oh so many years, ago WHEN i was on
A sunday drive, home it Hit scan on the. RADIO
(41:54):
i had to stop at a fast food joint order
lunch and listen to the rest of the show in
the parking lot so as not to go out of.
Rage NOW i can live stream from practically. Anywhere times have,
changed but your show is as, relevant irrelevant and great as.
Ever congratulations on thirty. Years thank, You. CHRIS i appreciate.
That and you had a question about putting maybe A
(42:15):
scout rifle on a three fifty seven magnum lever. Action
not a terrible. Idea scout rifle EXTENDED i, relief it's mounted.
Forward let's Say burths has. One, NOW i think before
TEXTAS i have to look that. UP i know loophole
does not as Many scout scopes out as there used to.
(42:37):
Be but, Yeah scout scope on a lever action not
a terrible. Idea it looks. Goofy but you, know these
days we've got tactical lever actions and all black with
all sorts of attachments and things all over. THEM i,
mean why. Not we're just having fun with these, things,
really and why not have a cool lever. Action WELL
(43:00):
i do like my lever. Actions so there you. Go
a vortex Does michelle, says, OKAY i thought so that
it was Somebody they won't you here for a spurs or,
vortex so thank you for. That, Yes, Scout scout, Scope scout,
rifles The scout rifle concept created By Colonel Jeff cooper
some forty fifty years. Ago we'll be talking a little
bit more about. That i've got somebody wants to talk
(43:22):
About scout rifles and. Such, oh in the next few
weeks we'll be bringing that up as. Well remember sighting
in three inches high one hundred and shooting out to three.
Hundred just hold dead on AS i, say just shoot.
It it'll fall, down trust.
Speaker 6 (43:38):
Me
