Speaker 7 (00:35):
After Show, all right after True Time. We got rid
of that woman.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
Gone real nice, real real nice.

Speaker 6 (00:47):
We love that shall and we're sorry she's not here.
But Tom Handy is killing you.

Speaker 8 (00:51):
Thank you, Tom, You're welcome, Thank you very much.

Speaker 7 (00:54):
Got Jim Kinsey over.

Speaker 6 (00:55):
Here, Yeah whatever whatever, Right there you go, man, We
got yeah, we got actually somebody called in.

Speaker 7 (01:03):
We're gonna go ahead.

Speaker 6 (01:04):
Let's go ahead and jump on nest and talk with
Jim and called well, Idaho.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
Hey Jim, Hi, how you doing well?

Speaker 6 (01:11):
We are great. What's happening down in the Treasure Valley area?

Speaker 3 (01:17):
Well it's sunny, but you know, I got to go
to work. Early, so I'm not going to enjoy it
too much. But that's fine, all right.

Speaker 7 (01:25):
So how can I help you today?

Speaker 3 (01:27):
I'm just wondering if you had a recommendation for just
an all around caliber for like deer and elk.

Speaker 7 (01:36):
Sure, what do you have now?

Speaker 3 (01:38):
Well, I've got it two seventy for the deer. I
got seven millimeters for elk and bear. Bear hunting doesn't
really excite me too much, but I'd kind of like
to get, you know, get down to just one rifle,
you know, practice one, get more proficient with one rifle
instead of you know, two or three.

Speaker 6 (01:58):
Right, Okay, between the seven mag and the two seventy,
which do you like better?

Speaker 3 (02:05):
I like the two seventy better. I can hit that
target better with that.

Speaker 6 (02:09):
Well that's good because that I was going to recommend
that you go to the two seventy and use that
for everything. I mean, that would be obviously a great
deer cartridge, but it's also a great elk cartridge. There's
nothing you can't do with the two seventy, honestly.

Speaker 3 (02:25):
Right, it's nice and flat shooting, and it's you know,
I bought it all set up. It's got a nice
Wartex scope. On it and a bipod and sling actually
the slings girls with guns on it, but I don't care.
I bought it at a place the guy had built

(02:45):
it for his wife and she never shot it.

Speaker 6 (02:48):
Interesting, So what kind of rifle is it?

Speaker 3 (02:51):
It's a Browning Hell's Tanyon.

Speaker 7 (02:54):
Oh that's a nice rifle in Fucia.

Speaker 3 (03:00):
No, no, no, it's your basic Camo.

Speaker 7 (03:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (03:04):
Well, yeah, I mean, if you're trying to get down
to one rifle, I would say the two seventy is it?
And then you can vary the AMMO because you can
shoot one hundred and thirty green bullets on deer, and
I would probably go to one hundred and fifty green
bullets for ELK. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:20):
Just hit them in the vitals, You're good to go.

Speaker 7 (03:22):
That's it. It's that same old deal.

Speaker 6 (03:24):
And because it has considerably less record than a seven mag,
you're more likely to hit them in the vitals with
a two Saturday than a seven mag.

Speaker 3 (03:33):
Right, Well, I've got a suppressor on. Well, I've got
a suppressor that I can use on three different rifles.

Speaker 7 (03:41):
Nice, do you switch it around? I mean is that
what you do? Now?

Speaker 3 (03:44):
Yeah? I mean I've got one. I've got an adapter
one goes on the AR. One goes on the you know,
seven mil seventy and the AR. So I just got
to get out and get myself one for the AR,
just you know, dedicated.

Speaker 7 (04:01):
Yep, you know, because there's one more pressures all we ask.

Speaker 3 (04:05):
Right, well, you know that's all I need today.

Speaker 7 (04:12):
That's the right attitude right here. Tomorrow is another day.

Speaker 3 (04:15):
You know, I've got a twenty two of me. You
might have to get one of those you know who knows.

Speaker 6 (04:20):
Oh yeah, I'm telling you twenty two with a can on.
It is just hilariously funny, that is. I love those things.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
Oh yeah, Well, the uh five five six when you
shoot the one that goes on the two seventy and
the seven millimeter, it's a little bit louder than anticipated
you know, caliber size a little bit so uh. I
mean when you shoot the can on the on the
Hunter rifles, it sounds like a nail gun.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
Yeah, it really makes a difference, kind of is a
big nail cut.

Speaker 7 (04:55):
Yeah, I think about it.

Speaker 3 (04:57):
Yeah, big nail gun. Yeah yeah, five five six. So
I'm definitely going to have to get a dedicated one
for that, by the ways.

Speaker 6 (05:07):
Yeah, but I don't know if you know this, but
this year, twenty twenty five, the two seventy is one
hundred years old. Really, yeah, it was brought out in
nineteen twenty five.

Speaker 8 (05:19):
Happy birthday to you.

Speaker 7 (05:22):
No doubt it's cool.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
I did not know that. That's a cool one.

Speaker 5 (05:26):
Oh it'll never last, it'll never survive, all right, Yeah, yeah,
it is really one of the.

Speaker 3 (05:31):
Great cartridge tractors when it came out.

Speaker 6 (05:34):
Oh it did, and it still does other people. You know,
people will say, well, you know it's not enough for ELK.
Really are you kidding me? It basically does everything odd
six will do, and really is insignificantly different from the
seven bag, and most people shoot it better. I think
the two seventy is generally the right answer when people
say what caliber, what cartridge for hunting?

Speaker 7 (05:55):
Just get that and don't worry about it.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
Right.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
Well, I got a friend of mine, the guy I
went hunting with loud week. His daughter's turning fourteen on
December seventh, and she begged herself a deer and she's
looking to buy her at two seventy.

Speaker 6 (06:11):
Now, nice, yeah, it works, it works, just fine. That's
just a good choice, a good deal. Well, look, I
think you got the information figured out. You got a
nice rifle, and you know, obviously if you want to
sell the other one that that's easy to do. You
can sell it locally, you can sell it to duries guns.
They'll buy it. But you know, if you're just trying
to thin the hurt a little bit, there's nothing wrong

(06:34):
with that. And then take that money and oh you
know what you can do with that. You can buy
another gun.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
I know, or I could send my wife on a
very long trip. Now I'm just kidding.

Speaker 7 (06:43):
Whoa, Oh, now you're on your own, big guy.

Speaker 3 (06:48):
Yeah, wow, I went hunting last week and we didn't
get anything. Kind of got skunked on this trip. And
she says, oh, we can sell all of your hunting equipment.

Speaker 7 (06:57):
Now, I'm like, that is not how it works.

Speaker 3 (07:01):
Just sell the stuff you bought, any of it. I'm
keeping it all.

Speaker 6 (07:08):
I'm guessing that, you know, so so goes my marriage
counseling career.

Speaker 3 (07:12):
So there, you know, she didn't she didn't even buy
the bottle of whiskey that we took with us.

Speaker 6 (07:21):
Can this marriage be saved? Hey, Jeff, I appreciate the call, sir.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
All right, appreciate damfo have a good way.

Speaker 7 (07:28):
You take care.

Speaker 6 (07:29):
Hey, I think our break down, Jem. Jem's got a story,
an interesting story there.

Speaker 7 (07:34):
We would come back.

Speaker 6 (08:16):
Okay, we're back here. During the break Thomas asking me
a question. You want to know what I used on
my moose?

Speaker 9 (08:23):
Yeah, because we were talking about two seventy being in
good overall caliber.

Speaker 6 (08:28):
Oh yeah, I would definitely use a two seventy on moose.
But I used that three thirty eight out six, which,
when you think about it, the two seventy is just
a thirty out six nicked down to a twenty seven
caliber bullet.

Speaker 7 (08:43):
And all I did was to.

Speaker 6 (08:44):
Take that a neck it up to a three thirty eight,
a thirty three caliber bullet. It's just the thirty out
six cases is good. You can do twenty five out
six to seventy. Actually there's a six y five six
to eighty, the thirty out six, the three thirty eight
out six, and the thirty five Whalen, which is a
thirty five caliber on a thirty out six case.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
Wow, Okay, that many options.

Speaker 8 (09:09):
Yeah, I had no idea.

Speaker 5 (09:10):
I always liked thirty at six because first it was
the first high power rifle I shot, and I had
no idea what to expect, no idea.

Speaker 2 (09:16):
Ye, it was amazing.

Speaker 6 (09:18):
Oh, and it's a good It is kind of the
upper end of what a lot of people can handle
for recoil. I mean it didn't kick a lot, but
it's enough where you know it's gone off and the
two seventies is going to kick a little less. So
two seventies a great caliber. And now I was telling
during the break, I said that three thirty out six
it's pretty close ballistically to what Tom hunts with. Is

(09:40):
that eight millimeter mouser you used to hunt with?

Speaker 7 (09:45):
Oh that's true.

Speaker 8 (09:46):
When do you have a Gt. Thirty Now he's an upgrade?

Speaker 7 (09:49):
Okay, you've got the in three O eight.

Speaker 8 (09:53):
I assume three eight correct?

Speaker 6 (09:55):
Yeah, And our buddy, our buddy down in uh, Australia
just set pictures that he got I think three of
the g T thirty rifles. He contacted Ellipsies and figured
out a way to get him I poured into Australia.

Speaker 8 (10:10):
Yeah, cool, cool.

Speaker 6 (10:12):
Actually I guess he went to Johnny Johnny Dorry and
Johnny is able to get him down to him.

Speaker 8 (10:16):
Fantastic.

Speaker 7 (10:18):
Yeah, that's cool. So I gave one to his wife Lisa.

Speaker 9 (10:21):
All right, Well, I didn't think Australia allowed any guns anymore,
and no idea what the rules are.

Speaker 6 (10:28):
No, there's a lot of hunters and shooters down there.
I mean they've got some restrictions, but there are a
ton of people who care guns.

Speaker 2 (10:36):
There's no handguns, right, I don't can't.

Speaker 7 (10:38):
Know what you know. And it depends.

Speaker 6 (10:41):
I mean they it's a massive country and there probably
are different rags and different parts of the.

Speaker 7 (10:46):
Country, just as are here.

Speaker 2 (10:47):
Huh.

Speaker 7 (10:48):
Yeah, we'll figured out.

Speaker 5 (10:49):
Well, Hey, I two questions for you to actually I
have two for you, okay on a suppressor topic. Now
that you don't have to be the tech stamp, because
that you have to admit that that was probably the
biggest detractor from people buying them.

Speaker 7 (11:06):
They got rid of the long wait.

Speaker 6 (11:07):
Yeah, because it was like a year long wait, and
then when they got rid of that overnight.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
Right, well it got better.

Speaker 5 (11:13):
Sure, But I mean for the people that don't buy
that want one, I would say the money and the
and the delay time together combined just make it just
not worth doing it from for a lot of folks.
But now that that's going to be lifted, what's to
prevent everybody and their brother who's got a C and
C machine from making suppressors? And the cost of costs

(11:35):
of manufacturers is going to isn't going to come up
now that the two hundred bucks on away, their cost
of manufacturing is the same. I would think we might
get you know, we'll get rushed January first, But after
a while, don't you think suppressor pricing will come down?

Speaker 7 (11:51):
Very possibly?

Speaker 6 (11:53):
Before you start making suppressors, you can make them for yourself,
but if you make them for sale, it's just like
making five your arms for sale, you would need a
manufacturer's license.

Speaker 8 (12:03):
I didn't even think you could make it for.

Speaker 5 (12:04):
Yourself, right, But now you could go walk into any
gun store and buy a suppressor. Right, you got to
see you THEMB you got to do forty four to
seventy three all that stuff. I'm sure, but I mean,
you don't have the tax stamp, so it's instantly two
hundred bucks less. I would just think more manufacturers of
guns are going to start offering suppress.

Speaker 7 (12:20):
I think you're right.

Speaker 6 (12:21):
I think a lot of there's gonna be a lot
of companies because they're they're not difficult to make, right,
So yeah, I think we're going to see a lot
more options out.

Speaker 5 (12:28):
They're not difficult to make. Hennig's got to set up
in this garage. You sell them golf neighbors. Just kidding,
he doesn't sell them.

Speaker 7 (12:40):
Well, have you seen the deal?

Speaker 6 (12:42):
They take either an oil filter or a fuel filter
and make us a pressure out of it.

Speaker 7 (12:47):
No, oh yeah, by the way, that's illegal, but people
do it all the time.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
Yeah, well they're good for a couple of shots.

Speaker 7 (12:53):
I don't know how they were having not done that.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
And YouTube all the time. It's like, why would you
put yourself on YouTube doing a feed offense?

Speaker 6 (13:03):
Maybe not the smartest people out there? No, just say no, way,
you know, way the same the same people that blow
up tannerite and have pieces flying or strap going right
by their heads.

Speaker 5 (13:15):
Yeah, well, speaking of blowing up my last night venture,
I kind of told you about half of it maybe,
But we're going to this.

Speaker 2 (13:23):
You know that that sport and nobody likes hockey.

Speaker 7 (13:26):
You know, yeah, remember that almost the sport.

Speaker 5 (13:28):
Yeah, yeah, the near sport of hockey. There's the only
true sport dot com by the way.

Speaker 7 (13:34):
Okay, so.

Speaker 2 (13:36):
You know where that's taking it.

Speaker 5 (13:38):
Okay, So we went down to see the lighting of
the Christmas tree in a little square next pretty close
to this the arena, and you know, you're fifteen hundred
people there.

Speaker 2 (13:50):
It's pretty cold.

Speaker 5 (13:51):
And they got the big sixty foot tree they're going
to light up at a certain time, et cetera.

Speaker 2 (13:55):
And a band's playing.

Speaker 5 (13:56):
Everything is great, and kind of stand there working around
and stay into the tent to get warm. Then I
realized there's no exit to the tent, so if there
was any issues, I can't get out of there.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
I said, okay, Im'd rather be cold than boxed in.

Speaker 5 (14:08):
So she stepped around the looked at the band kind
of you know, made mental notes of what I would
change in their mix.

Speaker 2 (14:14):
That's another story.

Speaker 7 (14:16):
So because you can't help yourself, I can't.

Speaker 2 (14:19):
I can't. It is a sickness.

Speaker 5 (14:20):
So it's stepped around the corner and there's this guy
comes walking, well walk, he's walking up pushing a baby stroller,
like okay, and this guy's got a black hoodie on.
He's kind of hunched over, and he pushed a baby
stroller by me. I'm not thinking much because guy with
a baby stroller's kid. Okay, great, that's family kind of deal.

Speaker 2 (14:38):
That's place to be.

Speaker 5 (14:40):
So but he looked weird, he would, and I've made
eye contact with him, and he there was something about it.
Either it was high or psycho or a combination of
the tube. And I'm going, oh, I see the backpack
and you know cordre cordulla bag. I'm like, go, well,
maybe it's diaper's for his kids or something, because he's
got a stroller.

Speaker 2 (14:58):
And so I looked down.

Speaker 5 (15:00):
Now there's a diaper bag under the thing going so
I just changed my vantage point. I looked at there's
no baby in the in the stroller, and he had
come from behind us from the street basically into this
venue with an empty stroller and a backpack he didn't
apparently need. So I pointed out to the person I'm with,
I'm like, first of all, it's, you know, a good thing.
We got this better vantage point to get the hell

(15:20):
out of here, right. But in the meantime, so I
walked over and found Toledo PD. And it wasn't like,
oh my god, there's a guy. I know, he's got
a bit.

Speaker 2 (15:29):
You know.

Speaker 5 (15:29):
It's say, hey, there's somebody you might want to check
out because he's acting real nervous backpack and they're like okay,
and they were like where we'll get them. They were
just all right, thanks man. They were they were casual.
They walked over there and lit the tree and we
walked away. And I didn't stick around to watch any
of the theatrics. And I'm sure there weren't any, but
I mean, he could have been waiting for his wife
and kids who were deep into the crowd. He could

(15:51):
have been totally legit, but I wasn't about to risk it.

Speaker 6 (15:55):
There were enough things kind It's not just one thing.
It's like, okay, got one, two or three. When you
hit three, you go, okay, something's weird going on here.
And you got onto that because most people, you know
the deal. Most people will say, well, I'm not going
to cause the deal. I'm not going to do this.
I don't you know, I don't know what's really going on,
and then they don't say anything, you know.

Speaker 5 (16:17):
The weirdest thing that crossed my mind was if he
drops that stroller and in the backpack and he's running
out of there, you know, is that is that a
legit shot?

Speaker 2 (16:26):
You get shoot a guy who's going to bomb a crowd.

Speaker 5 (16:29):
Probably not, because he's going to turn out to be
a father and he just ran out to the car
to get something, your gun down.

Speaker 7 (16:34):
And he's not hurting anybody, he's just running. Just a
guy who's running right.

Speaker 5 (16:38):
Right, but your gut I could see how people, you know,
and make the make that decision.

Speaker 2 (16:42):
He's got gotta be right.

Speaker 5 (16:44):
He's a supicide bomber that chickened out on that suicide part.

Speaker 8 (16:48):
I run too. If he drops his backpack and runs,
I'm getting out of there.

Speaker 2 (16:53):
Yeah yeah, yeah, I would think so. But you got
to be able to get out of there.

Speaker 5 (16:58):
So, I mean the situational awareness to begin We first
got there and there was no exit from the tent,
you know, And then that was the next thing that happens,
Like that's a lot of weird things happening in a
row and then this morning I woke up to find
there's three major metropolis had shootings at their Christmas tree
lightings last night.

Speaker 2 (17:13):
Chicago's one of them. Really, It's like, is just a
weird vibe.

Speaker 5 (17:18):
And I'm sure the guy was totally innocent, and like
I said, the cops had throw him to the ground
or anything.

Speaker 2 (17:22):
Else, And I said, trees lit. Okay, let's get to
the game.

Speaker 6 (17:25):
Yeah, but you know what, the lesson from that is
just to be alert, pay attention and listen to when
you're when your brains sending out those little alarms, pay attention.

Speaker 2 (17:36):
To the right and if you're wrong.

Speaker 6 (17:37):
So what, well exactly, I mean, you did walk over
and say hey, there's something weird over here, you know,
and the cop we go, okay, appreciate it.

Speaker 7 (17:44):
We'll go take a look, you know. So I find
you did.

Speaker 6 (17:46):
But the other part you did, which is really smart,
We'll say, all right, that's fine. Now I'm going to
take care of me, which is where is an exit.
I'm going to get close to that so I'm not
walked in.

Speaker 2 (17:56):
Well after I videotaped, you know, them throwing to the ground.

Speaker 7 (17:59):
So boy, you got a videotape and post it you know, I.

Speaker 5 (18:03):
Was going live. I'm not even gonna wait the delayed times.
This is an Interestant Gratification Society Gresham.

Speaker 7 (18:09):
Of course, that's right. You know, it can't be like
sixty seconds old. So there's that.

Speaker 2 (18:14):
Oh that's so sixty seconds ago.

Speaker 3 (18:17):
Ah.

Speaker 7 (18:17):
So both of you guys have GT thirty rifles? We do?

Speaker 9 (18:20):
Yeah, okay, very happy with it.

Speaker 7 (18:25):
What scope did you put on yours?

Speaker 8 (18:27):
Tom? I got it with that Burris.

Speaker 6 (18:29):
Okay, the not the scout set up, but the regular setup.

Speaker 8 (18:33):
Yeah, the Burros scout set up.

Speaker 7 (18:35):
Oh you got the scouts set up. Okay.

Speaker 9 (18:37):
Well, and when you say that they didn't cite it
in with they bore cited it for me, right, but
they didn't cite it in with the scope.

Speaker 6 (18:46):
That's so.

Speaker 2 (18:46):
But yeah it was, and it's right on anyway, right
out of the box, is dad on?

Speaker 7 (18:51):
Really?

Speaker 8 (18:52):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (18:54):
That's great. Yeah, that is a really nice rifle. Really,
you know, and Lipsys has those available. Oh yeah, our
gun talk run is over. But Ellipsy's I think still
has that grifle in that configuration that dealers can get
or you can go to Ellipsies and get it through them.

Speaker 2 (19:08):
Yeah, what a pretty gun.

Speaker 9 (19:10):
And I immediately noticed the difference in weight when I'm
carrying it out into the field.

Speaker 6 (19:15):
It is interesting how losing one or two pounds on
a rifle really makes a difference.

Speaker 8 (19:21):
Yeah, and I do like that.

Speaker 9 (19:22):
It's also much shorter than the mouser, because if you're
sitting in a pop up and you're trying to pulk
your barrel out the window when you see something moving,
it's not that easy.

Speaker 7 (19:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (19:36):
If you've got a broom handle you're working with, that's
hard to get it.

Speaker 9 (19:39):
Out, And especially especially if you take that extra what
is it, two inches off the stock, then you've got
even more room to move around and table.

Speaker 6 (19:49):
Well, that's right, you can take that spacer off the
stock on that rifle, and now you've got a nice
short compact rig.

Speaker 5 (19:57):
Well, and mister Greshaw ask him what kind of luck
brought him in the field, None whatsoever.

Speaker 6 (20:03):
Ah, it did not come with the guarantee if you're
going to get criptic, I understand.

Speaker 2 (20:08):
That, no skunking sending it back.

Speaker 7 (20:13):
Well, good luck.

Speaker 2 (20:14):
That's a war time.

Speaker 9 (20:15):
I had one clear shot at a dough, but I
told myself, I'm not taking a dough this year. Yeah,
because we just last couple of years there haven't been
that many deer in that area, and kind of want
to see him repopulate.

Speaker 8 (20:27):
So sure, I did not take the dough.

Speaker 7 (20:30):
There you go.

Speaker 6 (20:31):
Yeah, I passed up shots on several bucks because I
just weren't there.

Speaker 7 (20:34):
Were little guys. I said, yeah, you know what, you're
never going to get big ones if you keep shooting
the little one.

Speaker 2 (20:39):
Ray.

Speaker 8 (20:39):
Yeah, two years from now he might be an eight point.

Speaker 6 (20:42):
Yep, exactly right. So there it is. Well, it's a
good show today. We had some fun calls. I particularly
like the lady who went to the nineteen eleven class.

Speaker 7 (20:53):
That was fun. Yeah, Mary, Yeah, Mary Harry from Arizona.

Speaker 2 (20:56):
Yeah, she's cool.

Speaker 7 (20:58):
That was great.

Speaker 5 (21:00):
Love for her politically correct description of Chris.

Speaker 6 (21:06):
Well, he you know, Chris does pepper his delivery with
some salty language now and then, but as I say,
it's not indiscriminate, and it's used as a way to
get your attention, and and it's usually done with a laugh.
So it's like you go, oh, okay, I see what
we got here. I see what's going on, And after
about five minutes you don't even hear it. It's just noise,

(21:28):
but it's it's fine. It's a great it's a great
location with superinstructors. That group that he has built of
young shooters, a lot of them just started with him
and they are literally now masterclass competitors.

Speaker 7 (21:39):
Nice, so it works all right.

Speaker 6 (21:42):
Well, you guys have a wonderful Thanksgiving and be safe
out there because all the world will be traveling.

Speaker 2 (21:48):
Oh yes, and you travel safely, my friend.

Speaker 6 (21:50):
I'm gonna be doing that absolutely. I'll stay on the
back roads. Got my satellite emergency signal device too, on
top of everything else, so I.

Speaker 7 (21:59):
Can call for help if I need it.

Speaker 2 (22:01):
Smart man.

Speaker 7 (22:02):
There you go, be prepared. That's the boy scouting me.

Speaker 2 (22:06):
There you go.

Speaker 7 (22:07):
Take care, guys to get you.

Speaker 6 (22:09):
We'll catch you next time for the gun Talk after show.
