Speaker 2 (00:29):
Now, here's Tom.

Speaker 4 (00:31):

Speaker 5 (00:33):
We are live across the country and I'm Ryan Gresha.

Speaker 4 (00:37):
I'm filling in for Tom.

Speaker 5 (00:38):
Tom is out hunting the country this week, so we're
filling in. We're gonna be talking guns for the next
three hours. And thanks for listening to us. And by
the way, you can watch this because I'm the host
of gun Talk Nation. We're doing this with our gun
Talk team here at gun Talk headquarters, and.

Speaker 4 (00:57):
So if you go and watch it.

Speaker 5 (00:59):
We are in the gun Talk Nation studios right here
in Robert, Louisiana, and uh, welcome in. We got Chris Sereno,
We've got Kevin Jargon team gun Talk.

Speaker 6 (01:12):
Hey, I'm so excited to be We've been giggling so
much already that I think I have all my giggles hot.
I'm sorry, I'm gonna ahead to find something.

Speaker 5 (01:21):
So we got a lot to talk about today. We
started running down like all right, what are we covering today?
And went, Okay, after like all these things, I think
we have enough to talk about and cover.

Speaker 6 (01:31):
This is the.

Speaker 4 (01:31):
Funny thing for people listening when when.

Speaker 5 (01:34):
Tom started gun talk radio thirty years ago, it was
only two hours, and then it became a three hour show.
And when he started having his conversations with radio stations,
they said, well, I mean it sounds interesting, but you're
just gonna talk about guns, ye, like yeah, and like
after six weeks, aren't you gonna run a run out

(01:55):
of things to talk about?

Speaker 4 (01:57):
Well, third hours later.

Speaker 5 (01:58):
We're still talking about It's impossible guns, gun rights, hunting,
self defense, anything and everything. Because this is a huge
hobby that people have in the world, but in the
United States certainly. We were just doing some some looking
and I mean, you've got about forty six million people
who participate in the shooting sports each year.

Speaker 3 (02:22):
That's crazy.

Speaker 7 (02:23):
And I guarantee you there's someone out there that you
know that you don't know that they shoot.

Speaker 6 (02:29):
Oh that's true. Guarantee you that.

Speaker 4 (02:31):
They know where you are. Yeah, they're depending where you are.
It's almost a little bit u shot.

Speaker 5 (02:35):
Yes, Oh you know, well, I mean I own guns,
but I don't know anybody who owns guns. We're like, well,
have you asked anybody? Well, because I live in California,
I don't know. It's kind of what I can bring.

Speaker 7 (02:46):
It up, like, hey, stop, let's talk about this.

Speaker 4 (02:49):
Bring it up, be brave, It's okay.

Speaker 6 (02:52):
Give just told me a story the other day. He said,
I got this customer.

Speaker 3 (02:55):
He's a he's a liberal.

Speaker 6 (02:57):
He's got more machine guns than I've ever seen in
my life. And I said, are you kidding me? I said,
what was you buy him for investments? No, he goes
out and shoots them. Are you kidding?

Speaker 4 (03:07):
He has machine guns?

Speaker 6 (03:08):
And he says, yeah, but he doesn't want anybody to
know he has them?

Speaker 3 (03:11):
Do we have?

Speaker 4 (03:12):
Are you waking?

Speaker 5 (03:13):
Gun enthusiasts are sure he's a liberal?

Speaker 2 (03:16):
Like?

Speaker 7 (03:17):
Are we sure he swears.

Speaker 6 (03:18):
He's Look, he's come on one side.

Speaker 5 (03:23):
Everybody wants to shoot a machine gun, everybody but who
you are.

Speaker 7 (03:28):
But owning them is a whole different ball game.

Speaker 5 (03:30):
That is and by the way, surprise, surprise, everybody, you
can own machine guns. Because people will say this all
the time. Well, you know, there's short restrictions you can
put on. It's like, you can't own a machine gun.
Time out, Yes you can. You you fill out the form,
you pay a two hundred dollars tax tamp, which, by
the way, you know the wait times that we keep

(03:51):
talking about, or silencers, it's the same system for short
barrel rifles, short barrel shotgun guns, machine guns. So I
think that the that the weight times are not much
of a wake time these days.

Speaker 6 (04:08):
Even for machine art. Well it's they said, I just
read it's going up because of the government shutdowns. Well yeah,
like now that there could become a backlog and we
could end up getting messed up again, yep, which is
an unfortunate side effect of the shutdown.

Speaker 5 (04:23):
Right, yeah, yeah, but yeah, you can own a machine gun.
Now that being said for civilians. And we weren't going
to get into this, but let's get into it. If
somebody's driving around right now and says, wait, I can
own a machine gun, own a machine yes, let me
tell you, And we'll have to have a machine gun
expert on the show.

Speaker 4 (04:39):
Because you can own a machine gun.

Speaker 5 (04:42):
Dan, Yeah, we know some people. We know some machine
we'll call a Gibbs friend. You could own machine guns,
but you can as a civilian. You could only own
machine guns that were made before nineteen eighty six.

Speaker 4 (04:54):
That's the cutoff.

Speaker 5 (04:55):
Anything after eighty six is basically military law enforcement only.
I won't get into all the details and nuances of that,
but because of that, it's kind of like waterfront property.

Speaker 4 (05:06):
They ain't making any more of it, so the prices
go up, up, up, up up. I mean, you think
about it. An AR fifteen.

Speaker 5 (05:13):
The difference between an AR fifteen and an M four
is what Chris a.

Speaker 6 (05:19):
Seer Air fifteen and M sixteen is a hole in
the receiver and a spring and two parts, a pin
and a.

Speaker 5 (05:29):
Spring in two parts. An Air fifteen costs plus or minus.

Speaker 6 (05:33):
One thousand bucks US.

Speaker 5 (05:35):
An M sixteen costs thirty or forty thousand dollars. Isn't
that crazy? It's essentially the same thing. It's like a
car with a governor and without a governor.

Speaker 4 (05:45):
Or something like that. I don't know.

Speaker 6 (05:47):
I'm not a car guy, so yeah, yeah, you're probably
exactly right, because it's just something that holds it back.

Speaker 5 (05:52):
But because of that, people do buy them for investments
because they're only there's a finite amount of machine guns
made before I K six, But.

Speaker 7 (06:02):
As an investment, Like, if you're doing this as an investment,
at some point you do need to sell it. Don't
And I don't don't hear anybody that I know, don't
tell anybody, But I seriously like I think, like it's
always that thing. Well, I'm gonna buy this as an
investment or, but you never.

Speaker 4 (06:17):
Sell it, so that just people make themselves.

Speaker 7 (06:20):
You're just you're just making yourself feel good.

Speaker 4 (06:23):
But you know what, We're okay with that.

Speaker 7 (06:24):
And if you want to own it, that to just
own it.

Speaker 6 (06:27):
I mean some people sell them. Some people buy them
and sell them, but they wait too long and then
they probably die the next day. It's like waiting to
retire as a cop. Everybody says I'm going to retire
one day, and then you die like a week later,
because you can't retire you wait too long. Yeah, in
your machine Man, you.

Speaker 7 (06:44):
Really brought the energy of the show. Wow, wait.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
You die the next day.

Speaker 4 (06:51):
LEAs war said wrote a song about that.

Speaker 6 (06:53):
I think, oh my god, this is ironic. Don't you
think so?

Speaker 5 (06:59):
Do you have some We have some great guests coming
up on the show today. We got some very fun guests.
We've got Nick Collier, who is he's He shoots. He
is shot competitively. I don't know if he would say
he's competitive, but he shoots in competitive competitions.

Speaker 6 (07:16):
My first promotional piece of gear to write an article.

Speaker 7 (07:19):
There you go, I started.

Speaker 5 (07:20):
He's also an armorer, an ar fifteen guy, and just
a general fun guy. Been following this stuff. We've got
Kenny Barlow from Regal Products. We're gonna have him on
the show. We're also gonna be talking about some questions
for the audience to chime in on and and if
you want, you can follow along. We're gonna be posting.
So we're recording this right now. It's not actually live,

(07:43):
but you can watch this video on all of the
gun Talk channels, gun Talk, YouTube, Facebook X.

Speaker 3 (07:50):
All the places.

Speaker 4 (07:51):
I don't know TikTok not yet please. Hey, Jay's been
practicing now dance moves.

Speaker 7 (07:56):
I do practice.

Speaker 3 (07:58):
You know.

Speaker 7 (07:58):
That's pretty good, right, that's very cool native But if
you want.

Speaker 5 (08:01):
To follow along, you can watch us on all those
places and chime in with your thoughts, your questions, your criticisms.

Speaker 7 (08:08):
Hey, we accept it's all right.

Speaker 5 (08:11):
So questions on the floor today, And we threw this
out on the gun Talk facebooks and man, people were
commenting with thousands and thousands of comments on these. So
I'm gonna I'm just gonna tell you all three of
them right now. We'll jump into the first one. First one,
what's the most underrated cartridge?

Speaker 4 (08:32):
Man? Okay, that's the first one.

Speaker 5 (08:35):
The second one is what discontinued guns would you wish
that they would bring back they would start making again?
And then the third question is how many guns and
how much ammo constitute an arsenal?

Speaker 4 (08:52):
Which is a.

Speaker 5 (08:53):
Little bit of a dig at the the you know,
public relations of municipalities anyway, So underrated.

Speaker 4 (09:00):
Cartridges, we got to go there.

Speaker 5 (09:01):
We had like eleven hundred comments on the gun Talk
Facebook on this one.

Speaker 7 (09:05):
So here's my question, it's kind of a follow up
question to this, is for what.

Speaker 8 (09:12):
Oh, well, we didn't we didn't specify sure, because immediately
my mind starts going, oh, what hunting cartridges do I
think are underrated?

Speaker 7 (09:22):
Where you might go ooh, defensive purposes, Like what defensive
cartridges are out there?

Speaker 6 (09:28):
See I hadn't thought about either side, really, just thought
the underrated cartridge because it's for me. It's multipurpose anyways.

Speaker 5 (09:34):
Okay, defender, so underrated, right, so I do I'll kick
it off. Russ on Facebook six five Creed Moores are
the most awesome cartridge in the world, honestly, in the
universe pure magic.

Speaker 4 (09:48):
Can only assume Jesus had one.

Speaker 7 (09:50):
Is that my brother? Like Ard, I go there too,
Like that's the first one.

Speaker 4 (09:56):
We'd just jumping in there to go. Let's just get
out in front of this. There's someone wants that's it.

Speaker 7 (10:00):
I hope he didn't mean it that way, but I
know he did.

Speaker 4 (10:03):
You can only assume Jesus had one.

Speaker 7 (10:06):
No, the three hundred is the Lord's caliber. Well that's
three hundred win mag. Three hundred win mag the Lord's caliber. Yeah,
it's it's kind of like the dead anything anything. But
I still don't think it's underrated. I think people will
people love that. People love it.

Speaker 4 (10:24):
But a three hundred win mag, it's got some recoil
to it. It does, but he got some recoil, it does.

Speaker 7 (10:31):
But if you can, you can tame it with all
sorts of stuff. Let's a suppressor. I mean, that's the
best way to do it. But when I like start
thinking about that, I'm like, ooh, a two seventy. I
think the two seventy is very underrated.

Speaker 5 (10:44):
Well, you know you're all here that that kind of
went that direction of like thirty six to seventy, and
it's it's funny because those were the go to rifle
cartridges for hunting. And the only reason I think that
they're saying they're underrated is because now we've moved on
to six five creed more or all these other things

(11:06):
that are maybe the.

Speaker 4 (11:07):
New the new sexy.

Speaker 5 (11:08):
But yeah, a two seventy or thirty out six, we'll
get the job done all week long.

Speaker 3 (11:13):
Three eight is it? Threeoid?

Speaker 7 (11:15):
It's another one. We've just we just glaze over it
and we'll leave it.

Speaker 6 (11:19):
The deal is this. I think what people have been
looking for is not just the power. Excuse me, it's
not just the power. They're looking for the accuracy. And
then that's when they started changing all the bullets and
changing the shoulder angles and all these different things started
coming out, right because of thirty out six will kill
anything that watched the earth? Yeah, yeah, but is it?

(11:40):
Is it accurate. Can you still buy an accurate cartridge
in it? Can you buy an accurate load?

Speaker 3 (11:45):
And what question?

Speaker 5 (11:46):
Well, and that gets into the whole gun nerd hole
of what is accurate?

Speaker 3 (11:51):
Mean?

Speaker 4 (11:51):
Minute of elk, minute of deer?

Speaker 3 (11:53):
Are we?

Speaker 6 (11:54):
You know?

Speaker 4 (11:54):
We got Bill Buddy Dan who's out here minute. He's like, well,
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (11:59):
This load is shooting a point nine inch scroup. He
just loaded shooting a one point one inchcroup?

Speaker 4 (12:08):
What is it?

Speaker 6 (12:09):
He said point three to me, and he was lamenting
it right right, had like point three with this. But
then I pull one and I said, you really think
it's the gun? No, No, it's not the Gunyah, it's fine.

Speaker 5 (12:26):
At some point the gun and the AMMO are more
accurate than you are.

Speaker 4 (12:29):
I like Craig.

Speaker 5 (12:30):
Craig's comment is eight millimeter namboots at this is called
a joke.

Speaker 7 (12:36):
That's a joke. That's a good one. Man. I have
to look, well, you go there's Brad. I'm gonna butcher.
His name is a Harko was seven millimeters aut eight
And I think that's another one. And that kind of
falls in that class where if you're starting out U
shooters or something, everybody's like, oh, you know, go into
a three h eight or six six creed more, but

(12:59):
a seven eight is a great kids gun. Like that
isn't a great kids gun and they can grow into.

Speaker 6 (13:05):
It, you know what. And since I've been here in Louisiana,
I hear that caliber talked about a lot.

Speaker 7 (13:13):
Yes, calibers are.

Speaker 4 (13:14):
Kind of regional.

Speaker 5 (13:15):
People have their things that they like. Twenty five at six.
I mean, that's another one that you don't hear much about.

Speaker 6 (13:22):
Up in Ohio. It's that's an act daddy for groundhogs there.

Speaker 5 (13:26):
You go right, everybody, because a twenty five hot six
it's a neck down and so you can depending on
what bullet you load in there, it could be for
big game or it could be groundhogs. Yeah, we've got
a lot to cover here, you guys. Stick around with

Hi, I'm Blake mikez from Louisiana senator and former world
champion shooter. Welcome back to gun Talk.

Speaker 4 (16:28):
Hey, welcome back to gun Talk.

Speaker 5 (16:30):
We are talking about guns, and we are talking about
some of the conversations going on on gun Talk's pages online.

Speaker 4 (16:37):
Facebook, in particular is.

Speaker 5 (16:39):
Where people like to argue, So why don't we just
give them something argue about.

Speaker 4 (16:44):
So we post some questions out there.

Speaker 5 (16:47):
We had thousands of comments and the one of the
questions that we're discussing right now is what's the most
underrated cartridge? Now, this gets into a little bit of
I always call it gun Blake says, forty five super
And for a lot of people listening right now, they're like,

(17:07):
like a.

Speaker 4 (17:07):
Forty five, like a forty five cult.

Speaker 5 (17:09):
Nope, not a forty five cult, Not a forty five ACP,
a forty five super.

Speaker 4 (17:15):
How about a forty five gap.

Speaker 6 (17:17):
Chris, Yeah, it's better.

Speaker 4 (17:20):
Well, it's it's I wouldn't it's rated. I don't see
it's underrated.

Speaker 6 (17:23):
Oh man, it's just unnecessary. Yeah, it should never happen. No,
I've got I'm curious.

Speaker 4 (17:31):
You got one?

Speaker 6 (17:31):
Yeah, I got, I got one. I got two guys
here that I got. I got old Clint Osbourne and
Joe Anthony boats them with me. And I'm saying it's
to twenty two. I love the twenty two long rifle.

Speaker 4 (17:46):
They really really do.

Speaker 7 (17:47):
There's a lot of people on this, on this message
board on Facebook that say, like they agree with you,
the underrated And then I got a fun is that underrated?

Speaker 4 (17:58):
Underrated?

Speaker 2 (17:58):
Though?

Speaker 4 (17:58):
I mean it's it's extremely popular.

Speaker 6 (18:01):
It's under popular to say you can't it's you can't listen.
I have twenty twos in my house for self defense. Okay,
oh boy.

Speaker 5 (18:10):
Everybody just stopped listening, Chris, what no to's ff the
front here's it.

Speaker 7 (18:15):
Okay, here's the deal. Let me ask you. I would
not let Chris take a shot at me at one
hundred yards with a twenty two or anywhere else. No, Like,
I don't want to get hit with a twenty two.
Not sure the bad guy doesn't either.

Speaker 6 (18:27):
Come walk into my house and listen to a nine
shot of all the barking, Yeah, all nine and on target.

Speaker 4 (18:34):
I think part of it is we do like and
then like all right.

Speaker 5 (18:39):
This is the part that if your if your wife
or significant others in the car with you, tell them
to ear muffet and close your ears, you could probably
you probably don't need any more guns with different cartridges.
You can get it all done with a.

Speaker 4 (18:54):
Three Toho eight or a thirty odd six or six five.

Speaker 5 (18:56):
Creed more or a nine millimeter. However, it's fun. It's
fun to say, yeah, yeah, I know, thirty eight special
is great, but forty.

Speaker 4 (19:07):
One mag is fun.

Speaker 5 (19:09):
Right, Yeah, nine millimeter will do the job, but it's
fun to have a ten milimeter and mess around with that.

Speaker 6 (19:16):
Yeah, I've got a revolver in thirty eight, but a
revolver in ten would be fun, right, wouldn't it be cool?
Because then I could actually shoot something with it, because honestly,
thirty eight is probably one of those that's not even
on this list I have that's through all thousands. Cody's
under rate in the thirty eight.

Speaker 7 (19:32):
So Lee Lewis it's it's really funny. And then there
was a reply from Doug Murphy on the bottom half
of this. Has anyone said thirty eight to fifty five Winchester?

Speaker 4 (19:43):
No, No, like I said that, No one has said that.

Speaker 7 (19:45):
I promise you, I know.

Speaker 3 (19:48):
You know what.

Speaker 6 (19:48):
He already took it right.

Speaker 4 (19:49):
No, they diouldn't.

Speaker 7 (19:50):
No, No, come on anybody out there with the thirty
eight fifty five Winchester. But then Doug commented right below that,
and I think there's a lot to be said for this,
especially everybody that's throwing out like the accuracy portion of this.
It's underrated for its accuracy. More people are chasing accuracy,
like what you said with the six millimeters of six
fives and stuff like that. But he says, like Doug

(20:12):
Murphy says, good Marksman shows makes any cartridge effective. People
get too wrapped up in numbers and charts. That's in
his opinion. But I share the same sentiment.

Speaker 5 (20:23):
Well, if if it's something you shoot, well, it'll do
the job.

Speaker 6 (20:26):
Did you see what I'm doing here? No, I'm spinning
the wheel of wonder? And oh I don't care where
it ends. I'm gonna you're doing the school lousing comments
MS show. I'm just gonna I'm gonna. I'm just gonna
get to one and I'm gonna laugh.

Speaker 4 (20:43):
He's gonna laugh, he's doing this.

Speaker 6 (20:45):
Whoa I am we gonna laugh.

Speaker 4 (20:46):
I just came to one. Really sweet.

Speaker 6 (20:48):
Somebody said the forty smith and wasson, oh.

Speaker 3 (20:54):
Erted?

Speaker 7 (20:55):
Is it no underrated?

Speaker 3 (20:57):
No?

Speaker 4 (20:58):
No, I like to spin more.

Speaker 7 (21:00):
It's been passed by. We're done. We're done with that.
It's over.

Speaker 3 (21:04):
Get over.

Speaker 6 (21:05):
I pay I want to pay more for my recoil.

Speaker 5 (21:08):
Well, oh boy, someone's gonna but I carry a forty.
But do you know here's a question, But do you
shoot your forty A lot?

Speaker 4 (21:18):
I carry it. They carry a forty, and yes, to
do the job if you and yes, it's possible to
shoot it.

Speaker 5 (21:25):
Well, but apples, apples, you're probably gonna shoot a nine better.
It's gonna hold a couple more rounds of ammunition. You know,
the forty costs less and them costs less, but that
doesn't matter if you don't shoot, right Chris, Oh no,
oh wait he said the he said the quiet part
out loud.

Speaker 6 (21:46):
Yeah, sorry, everybody, You're one hundred percent right.

Speaker 4 (21:49):
Hey, amo's cheap and if you don't shoot it.

Speaker 6 (21:51):
Looks carry a forty five.

Speaker 5 (21:54):
All right, Well, it's fun to argue about all this stuff.
We'll move on to more conversations after the break. We're
gonna have call you're with us. You guys are gonna
really enjoy him.

Speaker 4 (22:03):
He's an interesting cat.

Speaker 5 (22:05):
I'm hopefully you'll understand his Kentucky accent.

Speaker 4 (22:09):
We'll be right back with more gun talk.

Speaker 5 (22:21):
Hey, welcome back to gun Talk Coast to coast talking.

Speaker 4 (22:24):
About guns for thirty years.

Speaker 5 (22:26):
Thirty years, gun Talk has been on the air, and
hundreds of radio stations air this show every single week.

Speaker 4 (22:33):
Can you believe that? I mean, it's amazing.

Speaker 5 (22:35):
We really appreciate all the radio stations that air the
show each week. And it also is a podcast. So
if you're driving around going what in the heck is
this and you're about to have to run into the store,
you can go, well, just go to your podcast and
you can actually listen to the whole thing. Don't worry
if you're missing out on it, but I'm your host

(22:55):
for the day, Ryan Gresham. We've got Team gun Talk here.
We've got Kevin John again, We've got Chris Serno. We're
doing it from the gun Talk headquarters. We're doing it
on the gun.

Speaker 4 (23:04):
Talk Nation set.

Speaker 5 (23:06):
You can actually go watch this because we're filming it
so this will be on all the gun Talk channels, YouTube, Facebook,
X and thanks for listening. First, we're gonna bring in
our guests. He's one of our favorite people in the world.
Nick Collier. He is a multi talented gentleman. He's shot competitively.
He's an ar armorer, which is hard to say. He

(23:28):
also works with Buds Gunshop, which everybody pretty much knows
as far as the the ogs of selling guns online.
He works with Double Star and he knows a thing
or two about machine guns too. Nick, welcome in man.

Speaker 3 (23:41):
Well, guys, it's always good to be here.

Speaker 6 (23:43):
It's just like coming homes dude.

Speaker 4 (23:45):
We're so glad to see you.

Speaker 10 (23:46):
You know.

Speaker 5 (23:47):
Sometimes we just have people on the show who are
just like, why are we gonna have him on the show.
Because he's our friend and he's fine and we like him.

Speaker 3 (23:54):
So the best that's the best reason. I don't want
to be on any other show for any other reason.

Speaker 5 (24:00):
So, Nick, we were having this conversation. We were talking
about underrated cartridges. We were talking about guns that you'd
like to bring back, which we haven't really dived dove.

Speaker 6 (24:13):
They haven't gotten there yet.

Speaker 4 (24:14):
Yeah, we're still.

Speaker 6 (24:16):
Cartridge.

Speaker 7 (24:17):
I know.

Speaker 6 (24:17):
I know.

Speaker 5 (24:18):
Probably the listeners are like, okay, enough for the cartridge thing,
but they half of them are things that and half
are going.

Speaker 4 (24:25):
Going I gotter Colubi.

Speaker 6 (24:27):
So Nick, we decided that the most underrated cartridge of
our lifetime is the forty Cow Smith And oh no,
we did not geez.

Speaker 2 (24:37):
That is?

Speaker 3 (24:38):
That is so had I had a usp that I
carried around for several years and I went to a
gun show and you talk about it just like you
should have walked around with a turd because it was
in forty cow. And No, every time I break it
out and somebody's like, ooh, what you want for that,
and they go, oh, it's forty and then just hand
it back to me.

Speaker 4 (24:57):
They hold it like it like yeah, the two fingers.

Speaker 3 (25:01):
Like you, oh, it's every way you Oh, it's a forty.
So I had to throw in a whole reloading kit
just to to trade it off for a P three
sixty five X.

Speaker 5 (25:13):
If you buy the gun, I'll give you one thousand
rounds of forty for free.

Speaker 3 (25:18):
No, I'm not doing that. I'm keeping my elbow just
in case, Just in case.

Speaker 7 (25:23):
We're all that's the thing.

Speaker 5 (25:24):
We're all find time to find reasons to shoot the
forty we have. So do you have a thought on
this nick underrated cartridges?

Speaker 3 (25:33):
Well, you know, it could be an application thing because
I you know, of course, I'm worked for Double Star
for a long time, and I've dealt with the two
twenty three, five, five six and all the lore that
comes with those cartridges and how ineffective they are at
killing certain things, you know, a certain size game, even
though I've seen I don't know, and you've seen thousands

(25:55):
of pictures. We've got the most recent story of the
guy who shot the bear in his kitch. Oh yeah,
did you guys see that?

Speaker 4 (26:02):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (26:03):
Yeah? And he shot it with you know, seventy seven
grain horned in critical defense, and I was like, you
know what, I'm a believer it'll take down.

Speaker 4 (26:11):
A bear, the charging bear.

Speaker 7 (26:12):
Hold on a second, yeah, hold on a second. We're
i don't think it's underrated, though, because you're looking at it,
and he is putting. He put what seven eight rounds
in that bear in a span of what one point
two seconds from from ten feet away? Right, So I
have a hard time believing Nick, that the two two three,

(26:33):
five five six is actually underrated.

Speaker 3 (26:36):
Well, and I think it in certain crowds it is, because,
like I said, it's it's usually amongst the deer hunters
that I hear how ineffective a two twenty three is.
And I just, you know, I just tell him about
all the people that have sent us pictures that have
killed a you know, really nice deer with their their
double starr rs. Yeah, yep, Well some roofs and the

(27:00):
pudding me.

Speaker 5 (27:01):
In some states you're not allowed to hunt with a
twenty two caliber or anything, so it has to be
I think twenty four or higher in certain states.

Speaker 6 (27:10):
Point two rules on that. Point zero two, yes, point
zero two bigger, Yeah, I make difference. So, Nick, I've
killed two deer since I've lived here, and uh with
two twenty three and the one that I next shot
dead dead like a bad transmission, and the one that

(27:30):
I had to shoot through the bread basket just didn't didn't.
I mean, he's dead, but he went and he didn't
leave a lot of blood behind, So that for me
was a problem. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (27:45):
Yeah, you could track him as weel excers a little bit,
because I mean, you're you're dealing with a lot of
fun stuff, both with Bud's gun Shop and on on
the Double Star side of things.

Speaker 4 (27:58):
Anything the last year to even playing with that you
really liked.

Speaker 3 (28:02):
Hmm, well, I'll tell you it's really been the last
two years. But I had always shot, you know, competitively
with you know, a glock or an MVP, and I
finally got it hold of one of those mac double
State nineteen elevens about a year and a half ago.
And now I've got this weird affliction for you know,

(28:24):
double State nineteen elevens, and I got a five inch
and a four and a quarter. And then Buds did
a deal Brand of the month with Kimber and they've
got a two K eleven.

Speaker 7 (28:36):
I don't know nothing, is that's sweet?

Speaker 3 (28:40):
First three shots out of the box, we're touching on
paper from like fifteen yards gosh.

Speaker 5 (28:45):
So now you know it was the brim of your
hat getting flatter and flatter, you know, by the days.

Speaker 3 (28:50):
Man, it is.

Speaker 6 (28:51):
If Nick can do that, then then that's got to
be a good gun because.

Speaker 3 (28:55):
That's a heck of a firearms. Well, I would Serino's class,
so yeah.

Speaker 5 (29:01):
Yeah, that's got to be expensive. Working at Bud's gun shop.

Speaker 3 (29:07):
It's yeah. I've been there now about three months and man,
it's three months and how many guns? Uh t two
guns and about two thousand rounds. Amo.

Speaker 5 (29:19):
Yeah, that's the problem when you work at a voice
like a retail type place, it's like, oh that's cool.

Speaker 7 (29:24):
Oh that's cool.

Speaker 6 (29:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (29:26):
So uh, Nick, hang around. After the break, we're gonna
talk more about this. We're going to talk about ar
armoring and uh maybe talk a little bit more about
some machine gun stuff because you were at the machine
the Knob Creek machine gun shoot for years and years
and years.

Speaker 4 (29:42):
I'd love to book the take on that. We'll be
back with more gun talk.

Speaker 4 (31:58):
Welcome back to gun Talk.

Speaker 5 (31:59):
So at the top of the show here we started
that wasn't even planned, but we started talking about machine
guns and the fact that yes, you can own machine
guns because people will throw that out. You'll hear it
in the news all the time of like, well, I
mean certain restrictions on guns are okay, I mean you
can't own a machine gun. You're like time out, Yes
you can. Nick, you have attended. There used to be

(32:20):
this machine gun shoot called is it Knob Creek?

Speaker 4 (32:24):
Is that right?

Speaker 3 (32:25):
That's right, Knob Creek machine gun shoot right outside of
Fort Knox, Kentucky. They did it twice a year and
second weekend April and October, and it was Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
Excuse me. So the machine gun shoot was in fact
a huge, huge machine gun shoot where they had an
entire line of pretty much every machine gun you could

(32:47):
think of, from you know, mod douce size guns all
the way down to full auto pistols that you could shoot.
They had another range I'm sorry that people would shoot,
and then they had a another range where you could
rent different guns to shoot. And then it was a
giant gun show at the same time. But it's not

(33:08):
like your gun show that you go to regularly on
the weekend and it's like, man, there's some stuff with
some tables. Now, this is the most incredible gun show
to this day that I've ever been to because of
the variety of things you could find. It was everything
from all war memorabilia, you know, different kinds of you know,

(33:30):
like thirty seven millimeter grenades for those launchers like they
had those, but they also had everything that you needed
paperwork for if you wanted forty millimeters they had those two.
There were dealers for just about everything, and it was
really cool. It started really early in the morning and
ended really late at night. They did a night shoot.
It's still on YouTube if you ever want to show.

Speaker 5 (33:51):
Yeah, that's a good point, Nick, you could look it
up on everything's on YouTube now, so if you look
up Knob Creek machine gun shoot on YouTube you'll find
tons of foot and for the most part, these were
either dealers that are owned this stuff or just privately
owned machine guns, right right.

Speaker 3 (34:10):
Most of the people that were on the line were
private owners. So there were a few dealers. But then
the cool thing was these guys would get out and
they'd shoot all weekend. And I mean you think about
the AMMO costs that is now. These people did it
and they would get up on I mean many guns,
quad mount, many guns. One guy had quad Let me

(34:31):
say that, he'd get quad mount mini gunska and he
would burn fifteen seconds of belts off all four of them.

Speaker 5 (34:38):
So, okay, let's see this man critical a mini gun
depending on that nick he said it. But it's somewhere
between like three thousand to six thousand rounds a minute.

Speaker 7 (34:47):
Is that about right?

Speaker 4 (34:49):
It can be.

Speaker 3 (34:50):
Yeah, you can turn them way up. I think the
maximum is right around four thousand, okay, but still a lot.

Speaker 5 (34:58):
Yeah, two thousand to four thousand round of three h
eight per minute. And he had four of them mounted together.

Speaker 3 (35:06):
That's right, that's right, they were he was on. It
was basically like a I don't know when you were
a kid, and you had the g I Joe and
the thing that sat on top of the tanks that
had all the good like.

Speaker 5 (35:19):
Okay, so so if it's if it's going four thousand
rounds a minute, fifteen seconds is a thousand rounds times
four were back to four thousand rounds and fifteen seconds.

Speaker 3 (35:30):
Yep, just like that, and it like what just one
thousand dollars?

Speaker 6 (35:35):
I had a question, why is it gone? Why did
they get rid of this? Shoot Nick?

Speaker 3 (35:41):
It's a terrible sad thing. But for lack of sounding
like a gen x or, they couldn't get anybody to work.
It's a huge event. It took a lot of people,
a lot of volunteers to pull it off. And as
the ears went on, those people you know got older,
the people you know, you had your regular as it
came back every year, it kind of ran things and

(36:02):
knew what was going on, but just the kind of
secondary help that you need for parking and yeah, trash pickup.
And I mean you're talking thousands, like thirty or forty
thousand people there through the weekend, and that's a lot
of Portajohn's and a lot of garbage cans.

Speaker 5 (36:19):
It's also a good reminder, like, really cool things don't
always last forever. So if there's a really cool thing
out there, you know it's it runs its course, which
actually kind of ties into really cool things that don't
last forever, guns that are discontinued.

Speaker 4 (36:36):
That you wish they would bring back.

Speaker 5 (36:38):
So there's been all sorts of guns over the years
that people love and then people still talk.

Speaker 4 (36:43):
About it, but the gun company doesn't make it anymore.
Is there anyone that comes to mind for you? Nick?
You said, Man, I wish they would bring that back
and start making it again.

Speaker 3 (36:52):
I'll be honest. The first thing that popped into my
head was the Calico nine.

Speaker 4 (36:56):
Millimeter Caliko, what is that tell me about that?

Speaker 3 (37:00):
It is if you've ever show Maji and if you've
ever played Double O seven on the Nintendo's sixty four,
it was one of the guns. It's a little nine millimeter.
It's a crazy space gun looking thing, and they're real,
like I've held one.

Speaker 4 (37:17):
They're real.

Speaker 3 (37:18):
They don't not smile up, I guess at all. But
it's a nine millimeter if I'm not mistaken. And it
had a weird magazine like a like a drum bag,
small almost like a like an AR size like an
AR pistol size gun, and they were just really neat
and I've never actually I've never fired one, which I

(37:39):
want to. I think we had a few drums come
through the shop, but I've never been able to actually
handle and shoot one.

Speaker 4 (37:46):
Have you ever listened to one like gun Broker or
Bud's Gun Shop?

Speaker 3 (37:50):
No, I have, not, to be honest with you. It's
it's one of those things that I was pretty sure
was my out of my range, so I never really
dug into it.

Speaker 5 (37:59):
Maybe that that's the one. It's a bucket list gun.
You got a bucket list guns?

Speaker 7 (38:03):
No, I don't have a bucket list gun, like and
I know what it sounds so weird to do, like
to say, like, I don't have a bucket list gun,
but I have a couple of guns that, man, I
wish they would bring back for sure.

Speaker 4 (38:14):
Do you have one that comes to mind?

Speaker 7 (38:16):
Oh, I've got two, like the right the Thompson Center
Icon like why by far one of the most accurate
both action rifles I've ever owned.

Speaker 5 (38:26):
Well, Thompson Center sold to Smith and Wesson and then
Ninnett gotten by Just and now Greg Gritz who started
Thompson Center owns it again.

Speaker 3 (38:37):
Right, so there's a chance full circle.

Speaker 7 (38:39):
No way, no way, the venture did that gun in?

Speaker 6 (38:42):
Oh idiot?

Speaker 9 (38:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (38:45):
Sometimes you're like, what but it was such a good gun,
That's what we always say. But it was such a
good gun. Why did they stop.

Speaker 5 (38:50):
Making it money? No one was buying it, changes in the.

Speaker 6 (38:54):
Market whatever, No one was buying it.

Speaker 4 (38:56):
Yeah, Nick Man, it's always good to talk to you.

Speaker 3 (38:58):
Thanks for being all of this does always good to
hang out with you. I miss you bunch.

Speaker 4 (39:03):
All right, Nick, call your thanks for being on. We
will be back with more gun Talk.

Speaker 5 (39:14):
Hey, welcome back to gun Talk. I am your host
for the day, Ryan Gresham. Thanks for tuning in and listening.
And we're here at gun Talk Headquarters. Tom is off hunting,
so we're filling in for him this week and so
you could be a part of the conversation online. You
can go watch this because we're filling it. So, kJ

(39:35):
and Chris, what was the gun that Nick said you
wanted to bring back? Did you look at this gun?

Speaker 4 (39:40):
Chris?

Speaker 6 (39:41):
It was the Calico nine milimeter. I pulled it up
on my phone while he was talking about it, and
it looks like some kind of squirt pistol. Yeah, I
mean it's a weird looking thing. Each I've heard of it.
I guess I've never seen one.

Speaker 7 (39:56):
I've never seen it. I've seen it in imagery. But
I mean, but our producer Michael off Air was like, hey,
if it's anything double seven, it screams in nostalgia. And
he's exactly right. Like some guns that people want back
brought back, is it because of their accuracy. It's not,
because it's just the caliber that they always wasn't so

(40:17):
they had. It's the nostalgia fill.

Speaker 6 (40:19):
Up as well as don't appear to be because it's reliable.

Speaker 5 (40:24):
Well, this is nostalgia for a video game. I don't
know if you caught that. Yeah, this is a Nintendo
sixty four GoldenEye or whatever it's called back in the day,
which was jeez, that was popular back in back when
Ash the Base was rocked in the airwaves.

Speaker 4 (40:39):
I think you know it was. It was a big
deal back then.

Speaker 5 (40:42):
Yeah, but that's funny. He wants the gun because he
played with it on a video game. I mean, people
love guns from movies and TV shows, right right, But I.

Speaker 7 (40:52):
Think even twenty years down, when we're not talking about
this stuff, anymore. There's going to be a new generation
and they're gonna be say, the exact same thing. I
played with it on Call of Duty, I played with
it on Weapons of War, whatever it was.

Speaker 6 (41:07):
I've got to have an e and I've gotta have it.

Speaker 4 (41:09):
Is that a real EO tech?

Speaker 9 (41:11):
Yes?

Speaker 5 (41:12):
And that's what That's what I always joke about, because
I'm not much of a video game guy, but I
go to people who play video games and these these
first person shooter games.

Speaker 4 (41:22):
I'm like, you know, you can just you could actually
shoot these in real life.

Speaker 5 (41:27):
You could go buy this this gun and put that
optic on it and go to the range and actually
shoot it, not just on the computer.

Speaker 7 (41:35):
But you're not gonna be as accurate. I'm gonna tell
you that much.

Speaker 5 (41:39):
Yeah, but it's just funny to me. So, all right, guns,
we're gonna jump in this. What discontinued gun do you
wish they would bring back into production? Savage ninety nine
pops up a bunch. Uger, red label shotguns pop up
a bunch. I do like Blake's comment, literally all machine guns.

Speaker 7 (41:56):
That should be the standard answer for everybody. But I
will say Brent ten gets it, and you were we
we had in the segment before we had talked about
the one that I think is the thompsonsent er Icon.
And you went onto gun broker and you said, what
calibery do you want it in? They've got five on there, yep,
but they're all the woodstock. I want the Hogue over
molded stock, the rubber eyes. The rubber eyes, it's got a.

Speaker 3 (42:19):
Great grip on it.

Speaker 7 (42:21):
Man, that a dad gun shoots so well, look at
kJ He's just like I. I love that gun.

Speaker 6 (42:28):
Order one, No I am.

Speaker 7 (42:30):
I am fortunate that I bought one, and that's why
I like.

Speaker 4 (42:33):
So you own one.

Speaker 7 (42:34):
I own one, and I wish they would bring it
back for all the other people. It's the same with
the Smith and Wesson gold shotguns. Oh yeah, and the
Weston made shotguns side by side and over. It's a
side by the side by side in twenty gate is
a beautiful gun to shoot.

Speaker 4 (42:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (42:50):
Well, so Rugger number ones and all calibers, Gary says, now,
and Rugger number one is kind of goes to a
reason why things aren't made because they still make them
in little short runs for special things. They're just hard
to make. There, they're inefficient, and there's so much more
efficient guns. They you know how many Ruger rx ms
Ruger can crank out compared to a Ruger Number one.

(43:12):
I mean, it's hand fitting, and you have these craftsmen
who know how to make this stuff, whereas I don't know.
I mean, I'm gonna oversimplify it, but we're squirting. We're
squirting polymer into a mold, and we're punching out guns
left and right. But it's always fun to talk about
this stuff. We're going to keep the conversation going. After
the break, We're gonna have one of our good buddies,

(43:32):
Kenny Barlow on the show stick Around. More gun talk
coming right back.
