the air, and another turnover by brock Purty, another interception
by that Ravens defense.
Speaker 4 (01:24):
It's a five to three school. I don't know who's
pitching in this game.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
But but five to three San Francisco's leading. But you
gotta get the Ravens defense is something. Come on, Allan Lee.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
Hey, I want to ask you, since we live out
here on the West Coast, now, do you miss snow
and cold for Christmas?
Speaker 3 (01:44):
Not at all?
Speaker 4 (01:45):
I can see it on video. I'm good.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
That we've lived it.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
Yeah, only the corduroy pants, the boots, the big jackets.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
I'm good man.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
I'm thinking I lived in Detroit for twenty years and
you lived there eighteen lived there twenty years.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
You used to have to have the snow service come
pave the driveway, and it's I can go to work
early in the morning to do the morning show.
Speaker 4 (02:09):
You were doing the morning news. What time did you
get to the station?
Speaker 2 (02:12):
Four before a little bit after four? Sometimes? Unbelievable?
Speaker 1 (02:16):
Man, man oh man? All right, Alan, And speaking of
so this game is under right here. It's a pretty
amazing where they are. And the Ravens with the turnovers
they brought party two interceptions.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
This is going to be interesting. This is a big game,
just to see where they are. Because remember the forty
nine ers or six and a half point favors in
this game.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
Right this game being so low right now, if it
keeps this way, you know the defense is only going
to intensify rather than this still being the shootout. I mean,
then you go, somebody, if you get behind late, somebody's
going to have to try to start making that up.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
And I told you before we came, before this game
started that the Ravens defense, like thirteen of the previous
fourteen games, have allowed ten or fewer points in a
first half and thirteen of their last fourteen games.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
That's incredible. Can't take you off the ball. That's bad.
Speaker 4 (03:09):
There you go.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
All right, let's get to the Detroit Lions, a team
that we know really well. They finally won the NFG
North for the first time since nineteen ninety three. They
are losing their minds thirty they are celebrating. There there's
no more confetti left in the city of Detroit.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
Did you see social media yesterday where they were all
the fans.
Speaker 4 (03:30):
Are all they're all worked up and all excited.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
And that it should be.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
And Allen, I don't want to be a Debbie downer, yes,
but I'm going to be a.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
Yes, yes you do. All right, come on, let it out.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
And I'm going to be a Debbie downer and I'm
going to tell you that this season will not nt
be a success unless they win a playoff game.
Speaker 4 (03:54):
Stop it Allan, It's not the first dude. The idea that.
Speaker 1 (03:58):
It's been thirty years since they one of the division
is dubious and tells you how bad the organizations like.
Speaker 4 (04:06):
It's ridiculous, like even the.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
Bears, where I've been that good and won the division
right like within the last thirty years. Thirty years is
a ridiculous stat. I get Aaron Rodgers was there. I
get Brett Favor was there. I get all that, But
that doesn't mean one year you can't. And you know this,
Jim Caldwell won up in his years there three times
they one year they won eleven games, they won nine.
(04:30):
A couple of times they made the playoffs two of
its four times. It ain't like they have made the
playoffs in thirty years. But the only difference and the
only way I'm going to believe that the Lions have
really turned things around and are headed in a different direction.
And I'm gonna give Dan Campbell full credit. Yes, it's
when they do something that they haven't done, and that's
(04:52):
when a playoff game. They have not won a playoff
game since nineteen ninety one, and they've only won one
playoff game nineteen ninety one since nineteen fifty seven. One, Allen,
that's not even possible. And I remember watching when they
won the playoff game. I remember watching the game and
(05:18):
I'll never forget. Go google it, go put it. Go
check out YouTube. John Madden after they beat the Cowboys,
and this is with Emmett Smith and Michael Irvin and.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
Troy Aikman.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
John Madden says, you're watching the two teams of the nineties,
the Cowboys and the Lions. He said, the Lions and
the Cowboys. And you're gonna be hearing more from these
two teams. The Cowboys went in after that to be
in a dynasty, winning three out of four Super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (05:51):
The Lions never made it.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
Think about that, and I'm gonna get people should be
excited because they won a division and and look they wanted.
Speaker 4 (06:01):
I'm not I'm not gonna take it away from the.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
Packers, went away from a legendary quarterback to a rookie
rook first year starter. Bears are terrible and the Vikings
lost their starting quarter That's how they wanted to do it.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
You know, when we were on in the summer, we
had this discussion about who would win this division and
we all picked the Lions. We all said, because the
division is not very strong, it was going to be
the Lions. Now, obviously Minnesota had, you know, the quarterback hurt.
Kirk Cousins got hurt. They were they were playing well,
he was, he was having a great season.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
He was, and you don't know if he would have
stayed healthy what would have happened exactly.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
But you know what, when you have been deprived for
so long, Lions fans are so used to getting their
heart broke. Every every season. There's always that one game
where you know they should have won or they were
up by this, and next thing, you know, it all collapse.
We've seen them all. Yeah, so you know, I'm sort
of like, let them. He will enjoy this right now.
(07:02):
It's a step in the right direction. It's a youth
and I hear the thing you say, it's only going
to be a successful season. If they win a playoff game,
I say it's already successful. But I think even if
they go to the playoffs and they make it interesting,
they're competitive, and they come up short, I still think
it's an okase.
Speaker 4 (07:22):
See I don't believe that.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
I think that at some point to really turn the culture,
it's about winning. And once you do that, then we
can't talk about nineteen ninety one. We can't talk about
one playoff wins in nineteen fifty seven. You don't worry
about that. You've turned the page on it. Officially. If
you lose, say they get drilled, you can't tell me
you're gonna walk away sand the Lions had a successful season.
(07:45):
If the Rams or the Cowboys or somebody come in
and they lose thirty four.
Speaker 4 (07:49):
To seven, you won't now, so you won't be saying that.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
That's what I said. I said, if it's a close game,
if they play somebody tough and close than you lose
was in the final drive of a game, on a
real tight game, I still think it's a successful season
in that sense because you have built upon this and
you know what you need to do for next season.
Like there's no question right now, if you look at
the Lions right now, you go next season, don't the
(08:13):
way they draft, but they better show up that defensive backfield.
You know, you've the Jamior Gibbs looks like the real deal,
especially moving forward because he's gonna get more usage. So yeah,
I just think, you know, you gotta give him some
credit here for doing what they had to do. Give
the Ravens credit. They go off for a fourth and
(08:33):
goal and they get the one yard touchdown run by
Edwards and they're up nine to five, and they got
to get kicked the extra point. But that's so far,
so far, so good on the road. So you're still
just not believing in the Lions. They have to win
a playoff game.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
To me, to me in order to just change things,
for me to really believe that there's changed, because because Alan,
you notice, when I worked as a columnist at the
Detroit Free Press and the Detroit News, I covered the
Lions every road game for like twenty you know, I
was at every game.
Speaker 2 (09:02):
I saw it.
Speaker 4 (09:03):
I went to see them, saw the playoff games.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
You know, like it's not like they never made the
playoffs that they didn't have good team. So so to
me to officially make that next move, because if you
remember when they when Bob Quinn came in as general
manager and and they fired their.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
Who'd I just say the other coach from the Colts. Oh,
I'm me too.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
But but when they when they when they fired him,
they said Jim carlwell, I'm sorry. When they fired Jim Carwell,
remember they said nine to seven and going to the
playoff ain't good enough. You remember that nine and seven
and going to the playoffs ain't good enough. And that's
what I'm saying. You gotta hold yourself. You can't just
be throwing up confetti. Hey we want a division okay. Now,
(09:51):
now we lose the playoff game, a home playoff game.
You just want the division might win twelve games. You
don't expect to win that game. You gotta be disappointed
and got to feel like you didn't get to your
goal this year because you said it. Most people gave
them the division because they looked at the division coming
in it was and was like, oh no, Aaron Rodgers,
(10:12):
the Bears are no good okay, So they just got
to beat the Vikings, okay, and the Vikings gave up
that start running back.
Speaker 4 (10:20):
You remember and they were the changes there.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
But you know why, I think there's finally hope. For years,
everybody was telling the Ford Family like, like the fans
are yelling at Pistons games. Now sell the team, sell
the team.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
The Ford Family finally, twenty twenty six years, twenty six
losses in a row, has finally got it right.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
The Ford Family finally seems to have gotten the formula right.
The people took over and made the right decisions, made
the right choices, and you're in the right situation. But yeah,
the Pistons, we don't want to talk about it. No,
we're not going to get this too ugly. But I'm
just saying, where are you on the Lions. You know
some people are in on the Lions. They're excited their defense.
You talked about it. I don't think the defense is
(11:00):
good enough to beat some of the better teams.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
And we saw it. They lost, should have lost to
the Bears. Remember the Bears gave them.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
A gift that was both games this season they did, and.
Speaker 4 (11:09):
Then they also lost to Green Bay at home on Thanksgiving.
Speaker 1 (11:13):
Uh. Seattle came into that building after they beat the
Chiefs and the Opener scored thirty one on their building
on their defense against some better teams. We have to
see that defense play because it ain't just gonna be offensive.
It's gotta be defense, and they gotta make some plays.
Where are you on the Lions? What would be success
in Detroit? We want to hear from you the three
(11:35):
one three as well? Anybody can call an eight seven
to seven ninety nine on Fox. Is just winning the division?
Good enough? And they've already succeeded and they can get
lose and it doesn't matter, or do they need to
win a playoff game? Do they honestly need to win?
I think they need to win a playoff game. Allen says,
they play a competitive game of lose. He's good with it.
(11:56):
There's a success. We want to hear from you. It
is The Odd Couple on Christmas Night, Rob Parker and
Allen Lee and for Chris Bussard eight seven seven ninety
nine on Fox eight seven seven nine nine six sixty
three sixty nine, give us a bauz and as always,
we want you America to stick and.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
Stay.
Speaker 3 (12:16):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Chris Brussard and Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm
Eastern four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the
iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 5 (12:28):
HI.
Speaker 2 (12:29):
This is Jay Glazer.
Speaker 6 (12:30):
And you may know me for the world of football
or fighting or even shows like HBO's Bawlers. Who you
don't know is for my entire life. I have lived
in something I refer to as the gray depression anxiety.
So now I'm coming out with a new podcast, Unbreakable,
a mental health.
Speaker 4 (12:45):
Podcast with Jay Glaser where each week.
Speaker 6 (12:48):
While we talk about mental health, I hope to describe it,
give it words. Listen to Unbreakable with Jay Glazer on
the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 1 (13:03):
Man, it is the Couple of Fox Sports Radio. Merry
Christmas to you. We'll need baby oil. Yes, I'm so
excited today it is a Christmas night odd couple live
coming to you live from the tire Ranch dot Com
studios and we want to air from you Lions fans,
people who are Lions backers. And it is thirteen five
(13:27):
the Ravens with another interception. Is that three in the
first half, but that was they got the ball but
didn't really do much with it. They did get three
points out of it, so thirteen to five. In the
first half over the forty nine Ers eight seven, seven
ninety nine on Fox Talking Lions, I said they need
a playoff win to be have a successful season. Alan
(13:48):
Lee's not in my camp. He thinks the season has
been successful and a good showing is good enough, and
he'll be okay with that. If they get blown out.
You would be a little thank you with that.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
Right little discipline to get blown out.
Speaker 1 (14:01):
Okay, right at home, because remember they have a home
game eight ninety nine on Fox, and we do have all.
Speaker 2 (14:08):
Yes, we do. We have a brave man from Michigan. Anthony,
you were listening to the Odd Couple on Fox Sports Radio,
and first of all, how is your Christmas? Anthony?
Speaker 1 (14:16):
Merry?
Speaker 7 (14:16):
Christmas is going good? Guys. I just wanted to let
Rob know I used to deliver the Free Press as
a as a middle schooler and read your columns freezing
my butt off for wrapping those things up.
Speaker 4 (14:31):
Wow, man, that is so awesome. Were I serious?
Speaker 2 (14:35):
Yeah? Now, did you throw the paper on the porch
or in the driveway?
Speaker 8 (14:39):
We got complaint with the driveway, but the port was
was recommended if you want a good tip, Okay, but no,
I definitely think that Rob has been right since ninety three.
And by the way, I was at the last home
playoff game wow, as a as a seven year old
(15:00):
watching that ball fly high in the air before it
landed on Sterling Shark's at the.
Speaker 4 (15:05):
Old Silver Dome.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
I was.
Speaker 4 (15:07):
I covered that game. It was unbelievable.
Speaker 8 (15:09):
I was. I was four decks up with that, Rob,
So it was it was the last moment, and you know,
really the last to Rob Barry Sanders' career. But I
definitely think you're right, Rob. There's no celebration. We've seen
this before. My uncle and you know deceased grandfather have
(15:30):
watched them in the sixties, seventies, they had a in
the eighties, they had a five to nothing lost in Dallas.
I believe in nineteen seventies is going back sixty years.
And no, there's no nobody cares about division wins. Nobody,
And I think you're dead on if you want to
really change the culture, going to start with the playoff win.
(15:51):
We've seen and heard it all.
Speaker 4 (15:52):
Because if you win the game, Anthony, here's the thing.
Speaker 1 (15:55):
If you win the game, then you can't talk about
nineteen ninety one and he and you can't talk about
that stuff, you know what I mean, that can never
be held over your head because you won a playoff
game in twenty twenty four. So that's where you change
the coach. Is nice to say, oh the coach, Oh
they're different, and Dan Campbell's done this and that it
ain't gonna be any different if they lose again. They
(16:17):
lost three playoff games with Calvin Johnson and Matt Stafford.
They lost playoff game.
Speaker 8 (16:22):
Yeah, they figured it all out. And I'll leave you
guys with this, Rob, keep keep it up, keep what
you're doing, keep on drinking the beat you But I
will say you've lost a little complaining steam because I
remember back in ninety three you'd come back hard on
WDFN and say, come.
Speaker 4 (16:42):
On, you know it, man, Anthony.
Speaker 2 (16:46):
I appreciate that. He's spot on.
Speaker 1 (16:48):
Me and Mike Stone started the all sports station in Detroit.
Tony Stony. He's retiring, you know I saw that coming up.
Thanks for the call, appreciated, Anthony. Merry Christmas to you
and your face. I mean more people want to jump
in eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven
seven ninety nine on Fox.
Speaker 2 (17:08):
Estony is like a huge Bruce Springsteen.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
Yeah, he had in this contract that if Bruce was
within fifty miles, he could take off Allen to be
able to go to the concert.
Speaker 2 (17:17):
That was the part. I think last time I saw
he had seen something like fifteen concerts, which is crazy. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (17:26):
Yeah, and the Lions and anyway, if they do win
a playoff game, well that place, you know, Detroit will
go crazy.
Speaker 2 (17:35):
We have another callack new mural. Who's that there'll be
a new mural in Detroit. But anyway, we have XP
from New Mexico. You're listening to the couple on Fox
Sports Radio. X Merry Christmas to you. Hey, how you doing, guys?
Going good? What's up? Buddy?
Speaker 5 (17:50):
All right, guys, I'm not from Michigan, but I've been
in Lions fan since I was in the third grade.
I could not stand the cowboys kids from the play yard,
you know, shooting the guns off.
Speaker 3 (18:00):
This not a whole bit.
Speaker 5 (18:01):
And you know what, I have to agree with you.
I'm not satisfied. Actually, I'm kind of angry because you
know what they imagine if they won that Thanksgiving game
and then the Bears game, number one seed right now.
Speaker 4 (18:14):
Right, and they gave that game away. That was that
was the game.
Speaker 5 (18:19):
You know, and they have plenty of chances. You know,
I'm not mad at the team. I'm grateful if they
want the division, but man, I mean it was right there,
you know.
Speaker 1 (18:29):
And my thing is, if you really want to change
the culture, you got to do something different, like you're
talking about changing. This is their chance to change and
do something that they haven't been able to do. And
then I tell them I will fully give them credit.
But until then, I'm not going to be premature crowning people.
A lot of people do that, you know, Like I
get it. You know, you want to wear hats and
(18:49):
put up a banner. I don't want to banner for
a division that I want to win.
Speaker 8 (18:52):
You know what I mean, just like the Lakers.
Speaker 5 (18:54):
Yeah, I don't want to and you want to want.
Speaker 2 (18:56):
To for that exactly? We know who want that end
season's banner?
Speaker 4 (19:01):
Yeah, that's crazy. Thank thanks so much, X.
Speaker 1 (19:03):
We appreciate the call, right, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (19:06):
I just think it's it's fair. It's fair. It's totally fair.
Like I said, I agree with you. If they get
blown out, no, but again, if you if it's like
you lose on the final drive, I think, all right,
you know what, things happen but.
Speaker 4 (19:22):
Where are you w this game? How surprised are you
that the forty nine ers at home have five points?
Speaker 1 (19:26):
I mean to our safety, Like just think about like
that that's the refereated safety that's right on the one
and Brock party now now Brock proty, we could have
this conversation.
Speaker 2 (19:39):
I think you got three first half picks, right yeah.
I think that they're trying to think they were trying
to possibly go downfield or just trying to make two.
I think you got to start using McCaffrey in different
ways here, Like you know, he needs to get the
ball more. I think running the ball instead of them
trying to force the issue here down the field. Because
the Ravens have done it. You can tell they they've
studied film big time because they've done a great job
(20:01):
of batting these balls in the air by Purty and
and and being able and conscious to pick those balls off. So, uh,
it's interesting. We both thought this would be a low
scoring game actually rather than being a runaway game. But
you still plenty of time in the second half. But
I think right now you're going to start getting in
this game where you every possession is going to be
like you gotta be careful, but.
Speaker 1 (20:22):
Yeah, I agree with you, but this is the Ravens. Oh,
this is what the season has been. They don't need
their quarterback, and that's why people talk about Lamar and
his chance of.
Speaker 2 (20:32):
Being the MVP.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
What people don't understand is, uh, there's a perfect example
there right, and that most people teams are gonna get
a first down with that and they stop them short
of the marker. Like their defense is no joke. They
have a Super Bowl potential winning defense.
Speaker 2 (20:48):
And they've done a great job on the offense considering
the injuries of this team to continue. Andrews is out there,
you know, their top tight end. They replace him with Lively,
who's really stepped in and done a great job. You
lost the Mitchell, the running back who was promising you know,
he's out for the rest of the season now. So
they're doing this with a lot of injuries and they're
making they're making you know, they're making it work. Every week.
(21:09):
They're figuring out ways to get it done. It is
pretty pretty amazing so far. Is exactly what I said.
San Francisco needs to start giving this guy to Baltimore.
McCaffrey is just a stud and they and they gave
it to.
Speaker 1 (21:21):
And that's the other thing that hurts Purdy with the
MVP talk too, Yeah, is that they.
Speaker 2 (21:26):
Have a guy of that caliber. Uh.
Speaker 1 (21:29):
That makes it hard for people just to look at
Rock Purty and not think of where, you know, where
they would be without McCaffrey.
Speaker 2 (21:38):
Would you agree with that? Oh, exactly exactly. He's he
you know, he's His happiest day in the world had
to been when he got traded from Carolina, no doubt.
Speaker 4 (21:48):
All right, Uh, let's do it.
Speaker 1 (21:51):
Let's get caught up on what's going on in the
world of sports. Kevin Wirrett is at the anchor desk.
Speaker 9 (21:57):
Yeah, and what started off as a defensive battle now
sees a Baltimore Ravens starting to get a bit going
on offense, as they're now ahead thirteen to five, although
the forty nine ers it looks like they have just
scored a touchdown Christian McCaffery running it in from around
a ten or so yards out, So it's now thirteen
to eleven in favor of the Baltimore Ravens. As there
(22:19):
about midway through the second quarter, this game started off
with a couple of big defensive plays. Brock Perty picked
off on his first possession, but then the sanf Diisco
forty nine ers on defense would record a safety, they
would add a field goal, so that that's how they
got to number five before scoring that touchdown right there
to bring it to thirteen eleven in favor of Baltimore,
(22:41):
as Sanfantisco about to kick the extra point to bring
this to a one point game, and the kick is
up and the extra point is good, so it's now
thirteen to twelve in favor of the Ravens three twenty
three either go before halftime. Earlier today, Eagles hold off
the Giants thirty three to twenty five. As Philadelphia eleven
(23:02):
and four. They're in the number two spot in the NFC.
They're tied with Detroit but do have the tiebreaker, and
they're just half game at behind San Francisco for that
top spot in the NFC. So you got to imagine
the Eagles and Lions rubbing their hands together seeing Baltimore
head in this game. But a lot of football to
go over in the Bay Area, and earlier today, Raiders
(23:25):
upset the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium twenty to fourteen, the
Raiders getting two defensive touchdowns within just a few seconds
of each other, Isaiah Pacheco stripped to scoop and score,
and then on the very first play of the next
offensive possession, Patrick Mahomes picked off and that's it was
taken back for a touchdown. So those are the only
two touchdowns the Raiders got on the day, but it
(23:48):
was enough to beat Kansas City and the Chiefs now
sweating it. They were fairly comfortable for much of the season,
but now they're just a game ahead of Jacksonville for
the third spot in the afc A playoff standings, and
in the NBA.
Speaker 3 (24:03):
We do have one game going on right now.
Speaker 9 (24:08):
We have one game going on right now in the NBA,
as the Heat leading the seventy six or seventy two
sixty two about seven minutes ago in the third quarter.
We do have one more game coming up later tonight
at ten thirty Eastern time. Mavericks and Central square off
in the Desert. Everything else has gone final in the Association,
Celtics over the heated rival LA Lakers one twenty six
one fifteen, Nuggets up the Warriors one twenty one fourteen,
(24:30):
Nicks hold off the Bucks one twenty nine, one twenty
two back to you guys.
Speaker 1 (24:39):
It is the I couple Fox Sports Radio, Rob Parker,
Allen Lee and for Chris Bussaud on this Christmas night.
What a night it's been. My goodness, gracious, thank you
for the phone calls and the participation in the conversation.
Speaker 2 (24:50):
We're loving it.
Speaker 1 (24:50):
We'll come into you live from the tire rack dot
Com studios and it's thirteen to twelve game here in
the first half in the suburban San Francisco whatever it is.
What does the Santa clue? Where's that the stadium? It's
about an hour from San Francisco.
Speaker 2 (25:08):
But anyway, my.
Speaker 1 (25:09):
Point is where are you on rock Party? Because today
I just I saw a two things. A Depending on
how this game plays out and what happened in the
second half, this could cost him to talk about the
MVP because this reminds me and I'm gonna break it
down to you in a Dodger fashion. Okay, okay, because
you remember this, Okay, Uh, Mookie Betts was up for
(25:34):
the m v P and so was Ronald Lacuna. Rondacunya
showed up to Dodger Stadium, had a monster three game
series killed it right when and that changed everything like
it was clear that he's gonna be the m v P.
This could happen tonight in that coming in. Had they
beaten up the Ravens defense and brock perty had a
great game, then people might have said, ah, one of
(25:57):
the best defenses in the league. And Stead he has
three picks, three picks, and Stead he has three picks,
and it's a it's a battle. We don't know what's
going to happen ultimately or whatever. He can wind up
having a game when he touchdown.
Speaker 2 (26:10):
You could have a second half with they're behind and
he brings them back.
Speaker 1 (26:13):
Or he could have five interceptions exactly. You know what
I mean, because he already has three. And my point though,
is he's on a different LEAs than everybody and Alan
this team had already gone to the Super Bowl without him.
This team had already been good without him. So brock Purty,
if he doesn't play well, if he doesn't play well,
(26:38):
it'll it'll it'll come back to him because he was
mister irrelevant, because he wasn't highly touted. Because people look
at him and say, well, he's not the greatest athlete,
or he doesn't have the strongest ar like, they will
use him as the reason why because they already went
to the Super Bowl without him.
Speaker 2 (26:53):
Would you agree with that? I agree with that. But
I still think for somebody who was mister irrelevant to
put up the numbers that he has and have the
seasons that he's had, he's proven that and and and
again we talked about this earlier U system quarterbacks. When
you find the right system that works for you, and
(27:14):
the coaches understand what you can and can't do, and
they build an offense around you where you can succeed,
it makes a difference. I don't think he can really
ever be called mister irrelevant anymore because he has proven
he can get the job done under the right circumstances. Right.
Speaker 1 (27:32):
But but ultimately the only thing that's going to matter
for him is the postseason. Would you agree with that?
Speaker 5 (27:40):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (27:40):
Definitely, Like not like you could do whatever you want
to do in the regular season.
Speaker 1 (27:43):
Yeah, if he has this game, a three interception game
in the NFC Championship, they'll say he can't do it
right like like that, that'll be Oh, you know, the
regular season when it did matter, I'll look and he
turned into mister irrelevant.
Speaker 2 (27:55):
I could see the columns, you know what.
Speaker 1 (27:57):
I mean sure, like and and and it's not like
people are saying all time, it's not like we've never
seen anybody come from nowhere and explode on the scene,
because we saw it with the Saint Louis Rams who
showed up out of nowhere exactly right, Yeah, And so
(28:17):
it's not like it's never happened before where you can't
like become this all world player. And even though you
weren't highly touted. So I don't believe is that I
just believe that the forty nine ers have such weapons,
have already had such stuff put together in place that
(28:40):
they don't think that it's just him. They think that
it's they have all the pieces and the only thing
that he can do is hurt it. He can't do,
you know what I mean. Like, it's not that you
don't give him any credits throwing the ball doing that.
Speaker 2 (28:55):
McCaffrey.
Speaker 1 (28:55):
That's why when they talk about MVP, the people in
the Bay Area are saying McCaffrey's the MVP. Tom Brady
came out and even said that he would pick not
here's a quarterback, picking a running back.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
But let me ask you this, though, do you think
if you take every quarterback in the NFL on every team,
certain guys like Ryan Tannehill. You put Ryan Tannehill on
the forty nine ers, this is the same team.
Speaker 4 (29:17):
Yeah, could he do that with the weapons?
Speaker 2 (29:19):
You think so? I do? I think that?
Speaker 1 (29:21):
And and and as people in the NFL say there's
about ten or twelve or fifteen quarterbacks, because it's not
there's so many. They have so many weapons, Dude, you
are you asking him to throw for eight hundred yards?
Speaker 2 (29:35):
Again?
Speaker 1 (29:35):
Like they do, believe that there's a system in place.
And obviously you can't those three interceptions and win games, right,
but if you take care of the ball and make
the plays. Because Shannan now has done this with other quarterbacks,
this is.
Speaker 2 (29:51):
Not right right. Some guys, though, get into trouble where
this is the system, don't mess it up, don't v
too much from what we're trying to do. And there
are some guys though, who go, you know what, I'm
gonna change this. I'm gonna add lib I'm not gonna
go through my checkdowns. I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm dead
fast on twin the ball there. That's gonna get you,
(30:11):
that's gonna get you a losing season. And it's gonna
get you out of that quarterback, There's no doubt about it.
Speaker 1 (30:16):
But I just like the narrative that that people won't
buy into rock Perty just because he's mister Irrelevant is
not an honest narrative and not honest.
Speaker 2 (30:32):
From this standpoint.
Speaker 1 (30:33):
Kurt Warner was bagging groceries and was not drafted at all. Right, Okay,
played at a smaller school whatever. The dude had like
fifty touchdowns his rookie year, right, his first year won
an MVP, won the super Bowl, like like so, so
he won the every big because the numbers were that overwhelming.
And he had Isaac Bruce, and he had Tory Holt, right,
(30:55):
and he had I mean Marshall Falk and he had
like right, that's what I'm about to say. So he
had pieces. Yeah, they had tremendous pieces. But his play,
his eye test told you he was a start correct
exactly exactly. And I think that's the part that you
still take a look at where Brock perty and and
(31:15):
you look at him and you're still not convinced totally
alan that it's it's him. Yeah, And when those pieces
were out, he had the three game losing streak.
Speaker 2 (31:27):
Yeah, and but you know, I think part of that
also the bat he was hurt. I mean, I think
his concussion was a lot worse than maybe he wanted
to even let on. I think they bothered him a
little bit. You know when he when he when he
got some rest of that bye week and he came back,
he was he who played much better. Again. Sometimes I
think you know you're hurting, you know how you know
how guys are, and especially playing football, you know, they
don't want to come out. They want to keep playing. Right,
(31:49):
I'm not hurt. I'm good, coach, I'm good, you know.
And then you look at it, you go like, so
that's not right here. You know that's something that's not right. Yeah,
it is.
Speaker 1 (31:58):
Uh, there are players who continue to play the Yankees. Yeah,
you know something, dude, something not right. Can you tell
us what's happen? Because players they don't want to come
out and they want to have those opportunities to be
to have somebody take their spot. But if you're hurt,
it doesn't make any sense. I remember when Brett fav
I don't remember when he was with the Jets. They
(32:20):
were eight and three, and uh, he was hurt and
and and for whatever reason, he continued to play and
then play with that and they didn't make the play
They started to see the eight and three and then
they didn't make the playoffs because it was they realized, Okay,
he's not the same player that he was. All Right,
the Odd Couple on your Christmas night, We're gonna wrap
this bad boy up coming up, Alan, Man.
Speaker 2 (32:42):
This show just flew by, Yes it did.

Speaker 1 (33:14):
We had a great night here. Rob Parker and Allen
Lee in for Chris Brussar.
Speaker 4 (33:21):
We're watching. Did you see what Lamar just did?
Speaker 1 (33:23):
Oh it's crazy, My goodness, he just ran them into
a field golf They make this What a big play
that was?
Speaker 2 (33:30):
He was like at midfield, Yeah, that was amazing. I
mean yeah, he ran that and shook about two people
out of their out of their jockstrips.
Speaker 1 (33:39):
My god, they got a chance now to make it
sixteen to twelve, and that's what it is going into
basically the half that's a big half of the Ravens
on the road in San Francisco. So there we go.
It is the IY couple coming to you live from
the tire rack dot Com Studios and sixteen to twelve
(33:59):
at the half with Baltimore leading San Francisco there both
eleven and three. Brock party a bad first half, three picks,
but his team not out of it, only down by four,
so the game's not out of reach.
Speaker 2 (34:11):
As long as Christians McCaffrey is still in the game,
you're not out of it, no doubt about it.
Speaker 1 (34:16):
Alan and guys, Patrick and and Alex chime in here, Kevin.
We're just wrapping up on this Christmas night. Just thoughts
on Christmas. It's a special time and what Christmas means
to you, Patrick has Patrick, I want you to shout
out your dad and brought you an awesome jersey for Christmas,
(34:36):
and just your thoughts on Christmas. Here, let's share some
time together talking about the holiday.
Speaker 11 (34:42):
Well, Robert, I love Christmas. We today shout out to
Pops for giving.
Speaker 2 (34:46):
Me a rookie. Devin Witherspoon.
Speaker 11 (34:48):
Jersey sales Seahawks beautiful, It's great jersey, love it, love it.
Merry Christmas. But I love Christmas rober We even though
I came into work today, we did our Christmas this morning.
We had a nice little will family get together, had
a little Christmas brunch with everybody said hi to aunt's uncles, cousins,
little cousins.
Speaker 2 (35:07):
Just all that a good time.
Speaker 11 (35:08):
Yeah, we open presents, just had a little fun like
it was quick and it was all productive. Now I'm
here and now Christmas with my work family. So as
you go to work family, we're here, Alex Christmas.
Speaker 10 (35:19):
It's always web Parker. You know me, I'm a worker.
It doesn't matter if it's a holiday. It's another day
to me. I'm the kind of guy that says, if
you wait for Valentine's Day to show your wife you'l ever,
you're waiting too long. If you wait for a holiday
to get together with family, you've obviously waited too long.
So I'm all about the holidays and people having good
feelings the adorphins, But personally it's another day for me
and a reason to get closer to family.
Speaker 2 (35:39):
I'll take it.
Speaker 1 (35:40):
No, and now you go, that is the point that
you bringing up. And I always say that's even when
I talk to people. You know, life is about people,
not about things. Nice to get gifts and all that,
but to spend you talk about it, you don't get
to see You don't only want to see your family
door funerals, and that's where a lot of people they
don't see their family unless somebody pass away. Everybody cousins
(36:01):
and uncles you haven't seen for years. Yeah, and that
shouldn't be it. Kevin, Christmas, how was your Christmas before
coming in and how big do you enjoy Christmas?
Speaker 5 (36:10):
Yeah?
Speaker 9 (36:10):
It was nice and relaxing. I had Christmas Eve off
and then I didn't have to come in here until
around three thirty. I'm with ty Shirt, though to me,
its Matt. It's as much about just getting your family together,
sharing those warm feelings as well wishes. The day itself,
to me, isn't that important. It's all about making sure
that we get to see each other, we get to
(36:30):
share our love with each other, and giving gifts is
a lot of fun and it's not that it's December
twenty fifth. It's the fact that you know, we're all
together in one spot, and it's a good reason to
kind of just share as much happiness and share as
we can with each other.
Speaker 2 (36:45):
So I'm all for it.
Speaker 9 (36:46):
I'm just not hugely obsessed with the Christmas holiday the
way some people are.
Speaker 1 (36:49):
Right and Alan, you talked about it, and it's beautiful
because I really like the way you express just like
your talk about it.
Speaker 4 (36:57):
It's about your childhood memories and your memories with your kid.
Speaker 2 (36:59):
You got two sons, Yeah, two sons. Christmas for me
is all about remembering when I was a little kid,
and that will give me.
Speaker 1 (37:06):
Your best Christmas story. Like as a kid, what were you?
Was it a bike or something? You know, it was
this Linel train set. You know those things are the
big train. I remember that, not that, not the af
right and I used to is that what it was?
What was the other one? The smaller tyo, the smaller ones.
Speaker 2 (37:20):
I have two older brothers, had two older brothers, and
they would always when I would wake up, stuff would
already be up and build that already because my brothers
would always be playing with it. And you wake up
like like, oh, yeah, look, Santa left you this train
set even set it up for you. You know they'd
been playing for hours right with it. So but just
(37:40):
that whole thing, you know of being around your family,
you know, my mom and dad who no longer with me,
but those memories are still there. The tree going up
and helping mom, you know, decorate the tree.
Speaker 1 (37:51):
Smelling the house, the food, my God, and when you
have your own kids, you know, there is no greater
feeling in the world than like six A because they
wake up you alwayst have to tell them to go
to bed.
Speaker 2 (38:02):
If you don't go to bed, Santa's not coming.
Speaker 1 (38:04):
Because another friend of mine, Divine, he's in Arizona. I
texted him earlier and he has a son who's of
that age. He said he didn't go to sleep last
night like he went.
Speaker 2 (38:13):
The kid would not. He said, he want to go
to sleep, right. I'm going to tell this. One year,
I didn't think there was a Santa Claus and I
kept saying, they go, what do you think there's a Santa?
And I go, I know you guys hide the gifts,
and they go, feel free to go through. It was
Christmas Eve. Go ahead, look at it looked at the house.
Go see you can find them if you can find him, Yeah,
you can find so years later I found out, you know,
(38:36):
where did Santa leave those gifts? That one year that
I went looking into all the house. He goes, Santa
knew you were being really inquisitive leading up to Christmas,
so he decided to leave your gifts next door the neighbors,
right exactly.
Speaker 1 (38:49):
That makes to sound. I was gonna say, oh, put
him in the trunk of a car or something left
the neighbor's house. You know, a Santa Claus is genius.
That's awesome.
Speaker 2 (38:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (38:58):
And you know, for me, I'm my family is very
important to me. You know, I love uh spending time
with them. I'm you know, as I gotten older now
and my niece and nephews they were all older and
have their own kids and stuff, so I don't I
used to always fly back to my niece and nephews
when they were younger and spend Christmas with the family
or whatever, and I don't do that anymore. But uh,
to see my nephew album, I shared that video with you.
(39:22):
He has a son, Tristan, and he opened up one
of the presents I sent him and just to look
on his face.
Speaker 2 (39:27):
You talked about it.
Speaker 1 (39:28):
Christmas is about kids and and and about the stuff
that they share and the memories that they have. And
the same thing I've always said to people who try
to take away Christmas from kids, Oh, don't believe in it.
Why would you do that? I just don't even understand. Yeah,
the only I was disappointed with this Christmas. I had
no idea that people in southern California love the eggnog
so much. I went to three different rounds. Couldn't get
(39:50):
you couldn't get three different routes. Those shelves were bare. Really,
I went for two weeks in a row looking for
them in the circular and I'm like, wait a minute,
you gonna put it in a circular?
Speaker 4 (39:59):
How you get raincheck? No raincheck?
Speaker 2 (40:01):
I want to raincheck after Chris, you want to know,
I had to buy some off brand at another story.
Speaker 1 (40:06):
Unbelievable, man, what a show. Unbelievable on this Christmas night.
And I'll be here tomorrow and Wednesday. Tomorrow I think
it's Kerry Rhodes and Wednesday TJ Houshmanzada, We'll be here.
Speaker 4 (40:20):
We have a show for you.
Speaker 1 (40:21):
The odd Couple Chris is off all week the holiday,
but the odd couple is not going anywhere. I appreciate
everybody who listened. Merry Christmas to you and yours. Just
enjoy your time with your family and everything, and man,
another great sports night and get to watch the second
half of this game, which is going to be a
good one. The forty nine ers in the Ravens. All right, guys,
(40:43):
we appreciate you.
Speaker 4 (40:43):
And more Fox Sports radios coming sticking today.
