Speaker 2 (00:23):
You're listening to the Best of the Odd Couple with
Chris Brushaw and Ron Harker.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
Great Night for the nbareat Night for the NBA. I
watched the games, the two games on TNT with baited breath.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
First of all, you had.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
The Milwaukee Bucks led by Yannis Ante de Cooper.
Speaker 4 (00:47):
Is this a commercial for the NBA?
Speaker 3 (00:49):
Nah, I'm just speaking that from my heart. It was great.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
If you like basketball, I don't know how you couldn't
like what you saw last night. Yannis and whim Bay
Victor Victor Winbanyama went at it and rob. One thing
that was different was they were guarding each other for
a good chunk like nowadays.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
You know, you don't really see a Steph and a
Kyrie guarden each other.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
A Lebron and Durant even in their heyday, at times
guarding each other you know, they went at it.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
They wanted each other's smoke. Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
And then to cap it off, we're not gonna really
talk about this, but Nicola Jokic eighteen point comeback in
the last six minutes against Golden State and then he
hits a thirty nine foot three pointer at the buzzer,
hands all up in his face.
Speaker 4 (01:43):
Can't wait to talk about that late. I got thoughts
on that.
Speaker 1 (01:46):
Really, we weren't gonna talk about it. That's you must
be one to talk. Okay, you want to talk about
Golden State, We're.
Speaker 4 (01:55):
Gonna talk about the shot. What the shot?
Speaker 3 (01:57):
Oh the shot?
Speaker 1 (01:58):
Oh yeah, you're talking about what the U thirty nine
forty he said. Okay, But anyway, wim Banyama, Rah, you
you asked me last night if you know some of
the correct me if I'm miss miss characterizing what you said,
but kind of if some of the shine is off Wimby,
(02:21):
is that fair?
Speaker 5 (02:22):
Yeah, it's definitely harder to watch.
Speaker 4 (02:27):
Because it's so bad. Yeah, it still isn't hard.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
It's hard for me to watch when I watched the Spurs.
Is the way I think they're misusing wim Banyama.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
So last night, Rob Yannis.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
Goes for forty four points, fourteen rebounds, seven assists.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
Great performance in forty minutes.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
Wimby twenty seven points, nine rebounds, five rejections blocks. For
those that don't know, in twenty six minutes. He got
an ankle injury and he's on a freaking minutes restriction.
Speaker 3 (03:08):
It's the ankle.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
And if he can't if he can go out there
and play against arguably the best player in the world
for twenty six minutes, hard, why can't he.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
Do it for thirty four? Come on, man?
Speaker 1 (03:21):
But anyway, that's what's hard for me to watch with
the Spurs. I want to see Winby get the Michael
Jordan rookie treatment, the Lebron James rookie treatment, the Shaquille
O'Neill rookie treatment, where you're letting him play. But that's
what's frustrating with me. I mean, the dude is bad,
is what I'm saying. Last night, Robbie had several highlights.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
He had a.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
Play in the corner where Jannis is guarding me and
Giannis is a great defender, one of the best in
the league, and he just threw a he didn't even
have the ball, threw a couple of juke moves, got
wide open under the basket for dunk. He had a
play where he threw the ball off the glass, caught
it and dunked it. He had a play where he
went in transition, went behind the back to shake somebody,
(04:09):
not a dribble, but just went took the ball behind
his back and then dunked on Brook Lopez in transition.
And of course he had to play where he blocked
Giannis's shot, which I don't know if anybody else in
the NBA gonna do.
Speaker 3 (04:23):
That, But I the dudes the truth.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
People jumped on me, and I never said, Robin, you noticed,
I never said he was definitely gonna be better than
the loaj Wine and Durant and all that. What I
said was last year before the draft, was that with
all of this hype, right, the hype was he's the
best prospect in American sports history.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
And so I was like, with all of his hype,
he has to be better than those guys.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
If he's not better than the Lodje, who's one of
the greatest of all time with all of the hype,
then it's a disappoint and Durant, it's the disappointment and
from what I see right now, Ron, he will be.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
He will be. I'm not convinced.
Speaker 5 (05:09):
To be honest, i gotta say this, I'm disappointed. Oh
I'm disappointed that he hasn't had a better or greater impact.
How can you add Wimby to any team and be worse?
That's what I don't understand. If he's that guy, and
he's a generational talent, and.
Speaker 4 (05:29):
He's a player that we've never seen, and he's going
to go.
Speaker 5 (05:32):
Down in the record books, in the history books of
the NBA, and yet his team has five wins in
thirty four games.
Speaker 4 (05:40):
That doesn't even make sense to me.
Speaker 5 (05:43):
Ain't no way they should The Spurs should be worse
with Wimby. And I'm not saying Chris it's all on him,
But if you're telling me it's got to be like
we're waiting for other players to make the Spurs better.
Speaker 4 (05:57):
That doesn't even make sense. How are we waiting for
players to make them better.
Speaker 5 (06:02):
Nobody's saying they should be five hundred, nobody's saying they
should be in the mix for the playoffs. They should
be better than they were a year ago. When you
have a guy putting up the numbers doing the things
that he's doing that they should translate into some wins,
not five and twenty nine. Here we are into twenty
twenty four and they're on pace to be one of
(06:24):
the worst teams in NBA history. How how can that
guy be attached to that. They got a Hall of
Fame coach, they got a franchise has won nothing but champion.
They've got a franchise that has history or storied history
of winning, and Wimby shows up and they they turn
into let's get in the lottery again and get another
(06:44):
player because we're so terrible. I just I don't understand it.
It doesn't make any sense. How much have you watched
of you? I've watched bits and pieces, you know what
I mean. I've watched a lot of highlights, and I've
watched a couple of games. I haven't watched that. I
don't watch every Spurs game. I'm not gonna sit here
and lie to you, but I've watched the high.
Speaker 1 (07:01):
Line when you watch him play. I gotta be honest.
I don't see how you can come away with that thought.
Speaker 3 (07:08):
One.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
And to answer your question, though, I think a big issue.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
I mean, I don't like the way they're handling. That's one.
But twenty nine minutes a game, that's all he's playing.
Speaker 1 (07:20):
I mean, when we look at the other I mean,
that's what I meant Rob when I was like, let's
give him the shock treatment, the Lebron treatment, the Jordan treatment.
I mean, because when they were rookies, they played forty
minutes and he's getting twenty nine. So that's a big issue.
How he's not able. You can't impact the game as
(07:42):
much in twenty nine minutes. It's just as simple as that.
But I think I don't. But my philosophy in general,
and I get it five and twenty eight or whatever
they ish, Yeah, that's a that is you know, that's
that's incredibly an incredible losing situation. It's not you know,
Jordan won thirty eight games as a rookie. You know
(08:04):
that wasn't great. He won, you know, so that's what
we expect five wins. But my thing is, I don't
that's not even that important to me because I'm watching
the way the guys playing. I don't hold rookies to
a standard of winning. I don't hold you know, really
young players in general to a standard of winning because
(08:28):
I don't expect them to step right into the league
and like become great, great players that all of a
sudden take their team, you know, to the top of
the league or near the top of the league, unless
you already go to a team that's that's awesome.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
And so the kid just turned twenty last night. He went,
I mean, how many twenty year.
Speaker 1 (08:53):
Olds are going to go mano amno with Again, I
don't think Jannis is the best player in the world,
but some people do.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
But he's arguably the best player in the world.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
He went one on one with Yannis and lived to
tell about it, so to speak, like I mean, he
in fact Yannis. Do you have any quotes from him?
Rob g quickly, because Jannis was raving about him. I
don't know if we could find the quotes, but uh yeah.
So let's get to the callers. Hear what you guys think.
I don't hold the Spurs record at all in any way,
(09:31):
shape or form against Wimby. I think the dude is
showing us that he's going to be a great when
he's averaging nineteen ten and three blocks.
Speaker 2 (09:39):

Speaker 1 (10:20):
The Big Game, I think it's probably the biggest game
of the weekend. It is the Buffalo Bills at the
Miami Dolphins.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
These are certainly two of the top.
Speaker 1 (10:34):
Ten teams in the league, but one of them Buffalo,
despite being ten and six, might not make the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (10:44):
If they lose. They could miss the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (10:47):
They could lose and still get in if Pittsburgh's or
Jacksonville loses, but they're fighting for their playoff lives if
they want to control their own destiny, the Bills need
to win. And I'll say this Rob if they miss
the playoffs with a ten and I guess they'd be
ten and seven record when for the past several years
(11:09):
you have been about winning the Super Bowl, when you
have one of the best quarterbacks in the league, when
your coach Rob put up a huge banner in the
facility saying super Bowl, that that's our goal and that's
where we're going to picture the trophy, and you don't
(11:31):
even make the playoffs. And part of the reason Rob,
you wouldn't make the playoffs would be that you lost
to the freaking Jets without Aaron Rodgers, that you lost
to the New England Patriots.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
I mean, there's no excuses, and so Rob, it is
going to be.
Speaker 1 (11:56):
Devastating if Buffalo loses this game and misses the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (12:03):
So the question would be who is most to blame.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
They all would be to blame to some degree, But
would you be most on McDermott, Sean McDermott to coach
or Josh Allen.
Speaker 4 (12:14):
The quarter it's to McDermott.
Speaker 5 (12:16):
You could replace coaches, it's hard to replace quarterbacks. You
know when you think about where they were, well, how
many seconds were left in Kansas City? Thirteen eighteen was
thirteen thirteen seconds? Like that changed the whole franchise. They
were thirteen seconds away. If they I don't know, Chris
squib kicked it. I was gonna say, that's the first
(12:36):
first thing. Squib kick it that eight seconds go off? Chris,
eight or nine? Squip kick it. You don't kick it
to the person to return. It doesn't even make sense, Like, well,
who's coaching. I'm not even a football coach. Come on,
chrisick it? They they thought, Rob.
Speaker 1 (12:53):
I think they thought like many casual football fans with
thirteen say it's a I mean, and.
Speaker 4 (13:01):
It ain't never open.
Speaker 3 (13:02):
I'm not to blame.
Speaker 1 (13:03):
I'm not absolving them, because that's why you get paid.
You're supposed to think beyond the casual Chris.
Speaker 3 (13:13):
Just most people think our thirty seconds is over, just like.
Speaker 4 (13:16):
We talked about your football.
Speaker 3 (13:17):
You're not supposed to think.
Speaker 4 (13:18):
That, Shanahan. Chris.
Speaker 5 (13:19):
When when the Falcons choked down that Super Bowl, Yep,
they're in field goal ran kicking field goal.
Speaker 4 (13:25):
You're up by eleven. Tom Brady can't beat you.
Speaker 5 (13:27):
Chris, go back and rewatch the game where they're taking
a snap with time left on the uh you know
the clock, the play clock, like you're supposed to run
it down all the way, Chris, every single down right, yep?
Speaker 4 (13:42):
So did you leave?
Speaker 5 (13:43):
So did you leave less and less time for Tom
Brady to match the ball down? What part don't they get?
But anyway, it's McDermott, Chris. It just is, there's no
way this team. You already brought it up, starting with
that Jets game. Really this teammate making the playoffs? It
went to that. I'm sorry. I know he just gave
you a new contract. They letting coaches go every day, Chris,
(14:06):
with contracts. I mean, Josh McDaniels got four years left, Chris. Bye,
we'll write your check. By bye. Once you realize the guy,
you just have to make a change. And here's the
other scary part. As you know, the windows closed quickly.
And like I told you before the season, I remember
(14:27):
I picked him as a wild card. But I told
you I did not like the way they were trending.
I said I was out on Buffalo. Didn't I tell
you that I'm out on Buffalo.
Speaker 3 (14:36):
Well, you weren't that out because you picked them to
make the play.
Speaker 4 (14:39):
No, but I said that I don't. I don't have them.
I want to go back.
Speaker 1 (14:42):
I did say you were out, No, I did say,
I was saying you were down on them, but you
still picked them to make the playoffs, right.
Speaker 5 (14:48):
But I said I was out on Buffalo, like the
winning a championship. I just this group, this team. But anyway,
McDermott is the one. They lose this game and they
don't make that. They don't get in at all, make
the play. I think he they'll rob.
Speaker 3 (15:01):
If they and and look, we don't take pleasure in
firing coaching.
Speaker 5 (15:06):
No.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
And it's interesting, Rob, because you hear people all the
time that do what we do say I don't.
Speaker 3 (15:12):
Like firing coaches, or I won't fight, well, but you
don't mind dogging players.
Speaker 5 (15:17):
I know, dog don't criticizing players doing a good job. Right,
and they get cut and they get their livelihoods taken
away from but get rid of him, right exactly. But
they don't feel it's the same thing. And I agree.
And those are the same guys, Chris, who will sit
there and talk about how great a coach is you
know what I mean, and.
Speaker 4 (15:35):
What he did.
Speaker 5 (15:36):
Oh my, I gotta have that guys, my coach. Well
wait a minute, so it's just what he does. Well,
come on, man, come on, I mean it's not We're
not up here.
Speaker 1 (15:46):
Whether there's a player or coach trying to take anybody's livelihood.
None of this has to do with personality, whether we
like it or not or not.
Speaker 3 (15:55):
I like Doc Rivers Rob. I cover Doc. I mean
all the time I can.
Speaker 4 (15:58):
Who does just like Doc? That doesn't mean that when
they chose me, we called it like it was.
Speaker 5 (16:04):
Yes, And you know what if Doc is mad or Chris,
we just have to live with it, right.
Speaker 4 (16:09):
I mean, I don't know what else to say.
Speaker 3 (16:11):
I say this, and I think you probably would say
the same thing. Ron.
Speaker 1 (16:19):
I got a bunch of great friends, and I want
to make more friends. But if I don't make another
friend for the rest of my life, I'm still blessed
and got plenty of friends.
Speaker 3 (16:32):
I mean, I don't, you know, like we gotta tell
the truth.
Speaker 5 (16:36):
What would what would be the purpose of being on
the radio, Chris and doing this show?
Speaker 4 (16:40):
Seriously, if we're gonna sit here and glad him.
Speaker 5 (16:43):
I know people do it and try to skate for
years or whatever, and they don't want to not really,
and they don't want to upset the Apple card. And
let me just try to stay below the fray, Chris
and not get anybody.
Speaker 4 (16:55):
You can't.
Speaker 5 (16:56):
Yeah, you can't live that life. I'm telling you, you
just can't. You just got to tell it like it is.
Speaker 4 (17:01):
And if people don't like it, it's.
Speaker 1 (17:03):
Nothing against Sean McDermott or anything, cause I don't know
about it.
Speaker 3 (17:06):
And I'll say this too.
Speaker 1 (17:07):
I think he's a good football coach, but it just
didn't if they now look, if they go on a
nice little run, many things to change.
Speaker 3 (17:16):
But he is Rob. I've said this.
Speaker 1 (17:19):
Many times when I've talked about him. He did an
excellent job of turning that team into a perennial playoff team.
They had not been that for nearly two decades before
he got there, and.
Speaker 3 (17:30):
So he did a good job with that.
Speaker 1 (17:33):
And I think if he loses this job, he will
get another head coaching job again. I'm not saying right
away necessarily, but he will be a head coach again.
Speaker 3 (17:42):
I firmly believe, and I think that's fine. I think
he should be.
Speaker 1 (17:46):
But if they don't make the playoffs or Rob, Honestly,
to me, they have to do more.
Speaker 3 (17:53):
Than just make the playoffs for him to keep his job.
Speaker 1 (17:55):
Because I think the culture there is bad and it
might whether it's his fault or not. I mean, he
is the leader, you set the tone. But Rob, they
just are stale. They just you know it, just something's
not right there, and a lot of times that you
(18:15):
need a new voice, you need a new voice and that.
So I think I'm with you on that. Sean McDermott
will be the one who's head would roll as far
as Josh Allen Rob to me, I would not make
a broad overarching statement about Josh Allen. I wouldn't be like, oh,
he's not a great player. He's still a great player.
(18:37):
I wouldn't be like, oh he's not a top quarter
He's still a top quarterback. I wouldn't think, oh, you
can't win with him, you can't win a super Bowl
with him.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
No, I think they could going forward. We'll see. I
will just be like, dude, had a down year, not
a horrible year.
Speaker 1 (18:51):
Passing numbers were down almost across the board, not completion
percentagy was up, but everything else was down. But his
running obviously fifteen touchdowns, that's an NFL record along with
Jalen Hurts for a quarterback. So he had a little
bit of a down year. But I think they need
a new coach. They need a new culture, preferably an
offensive coach for him, and you know, they need to
(19:16):
add some new players, get rid of some old players
and things like that. But Rob, to me, it wouldn't
be like, oh, this dude's not as good as we've
thought he was. Because I look Tom Brady after he
won his first Super Bowl didn't make the playoffs the
next year. I get it, he wasn't Tom Brady yet, Okay,
but still, Rob, A lot of people feel like, once
(19:37):
you make the playoffs, if you're a great player, once
you break that threshold and you're in your prime, you
should make the playoffs every year, thinking.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
Manny, Rob, you know Peyton Manny after.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
They made the playoffs the first two years, went six
and ten and missed them. John Elway, who Vic Vangel
compared Josh Allen too, went to the two Super Balls,
which didn't go well for him, it was horrible in
the second one, and then missed the playoffs completely. Went
back to the Super Bowl the next year, then missed
the playoffs completely. Like, So this to me, Rob, it's unfortunate,
(20:13):
it's bad, but it's not gonna make me think, oh,
he really isn't that good of a player.
Speaker 5 (20:20):
No, This is not an indict This is not a
referendum Chris on Josh Allen, That's not what this is.
Speaker 4 (20:28):
And it could be a.
Speaker 5 (20:29):
Bad year and they can miss the playoffs and no
one's gonna say, let you gotta find a new quarterback.
But this is a referendum on that whole organization, on
the coach, and they have to come hell of high water, Chris,
make the playoffs. They just have to, because this is
when you are supposed to be in the mix. And
(20:49):
you don't even make the playoffs. And you could go
back to a couple of games that you should have
won that you lost.
Speaker 4 (20:56):
This could this should have been an easy ride.
Speaker 5 (20:57):
When Aaron Rodgers goes out if you lost game one
on Aaron Rodgers played the Jets and nine to eleven, Chris,
and he comes out with the flag, Okay, all right,
you lost Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 4 (21:08):
In New Jersey. That's not the end of the world. Yep,
he gets he gets hurt.
Speaker 5 (21:13):
Four plays in, four floor, four snaps in, you can't
beat that team.
Speaker 3 (21:18):
Oh that was that was bad.
Speaker 4 (21:19):
And four turnovers remember Josh had ford turnovers?
Speaker 3 (21:22):
Yeah, he was horrible. Rob That will cost you the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (21:25):
Yep, that's the game right there.
Speaker 3 (21:27):
That would have cost you to playoff, and again you
lose to the Patriots too.
Speaker 2 (21:31):

Nothing better than poking fun at guys who might lose
their job.
Speaker 3 (21:45):
Hit the music, Alex. That's right about that.
Speaker 4 (21:50):
Is upon us, Rob. Every Monday is Black Monday. That's right,
Every Monday is Black Monday.
Speaker 7 (21:56):
Three teams already have vacancies right now, Panthers, Raiders or
just who will be next? I'm gonna go down the
list on who I think most likely to least likely.
So let's get started. Ron rivera with the commanders, Rob Monday.
Is he the coach?
Speaker 4 (22:10):
Yeah? Your nay, nay, he will not n ot be
the coach.
Speaker 3 (22:15):
I agree with Rob's look. Ron rivera.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
Great man by everybody's you know account, But no, he
won't be the coach.
Speaker 4 (22:24):
Rob g If I say, Audios, is that racist?
Speaker 3 (22:27):
That's fine, I'll allow it today.
Speaker 7 (22:28):
Okay, I'm feeling we're doing a Black Monday segment. I'd
be disingenuous if I took offense to that.
Speaker 3 (22:34):
All right.
Speaker 7 (22:35):
Number two Bill Belichick, coach of the New England Patriots.
Chris Is he the coach on Monday?
Speaker 3 (22:41):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (22:41):
Your name?
Speaker 1 (22:43):
Well, he will be on Monday, I think, But I
think eventually he'll.
Speaker 3 (22:46):
Be out of there.
Speaker 1 (22:47):
I don't see it as a firing. I think a
mutual party of the ways or a trade. Again, I
stand by. You can't fire Bill Belichick. You can say
we don't want you to be the GM. He's like, well,
I'm out of here if that's the case, and then
you work on the trade.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
But I don't think he'll coach him next year.
Speaker 4 (23:07):
Uh he will.
Speaker 5 (23:08):
Yeah, he will not be fired on Monday. They will
figure it out. But he No, he will not be
fired on Monday.
Speaker 4 (23:15):
You think he coached them next year. I think he
coaches them next year. I think that he growing sent him.
Speaker 5 (23:24):
He he he gives into what ownership wants Chris to stay.
Speaker 3 (23:29):

Rob Parker.
Speaker 4 (23:36):
He's coaching on Monday. Yeah your name Arthur Smith?
Speaker 3 (23:41):
Is he the coach?
Speaker 4 (23:42):
Yeah? He should be fired.
Speaker 3 (23:44):
He still might make the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (23:46):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (23:47):
That that's a shot. That's a non describe bad team.
They have got a lot of bad games. I don't know.
I just I don't know who they are, what they're doing, Chris,
what they're trying to do there. If I could upgrade
and find somebody else, Arthur Smith, Arthur Blank getbrid of
Arthur Smith.
Speaker 1 (24:03):
How that they got a lot of talent. I think
that just doesn't hasn't reached his potential. What they don't
have is a quarterback. And it's tough to win without
a quarterback. But and some might say, look, I think
Justin Fields could be there next year, and you would
you want to give Arthur Smith a shot with Justin Fields.
I hear you on that. However, if I'm them, I'm
(24:25):
saying give me Eric being to me and Justin Fields.
Speaker 7 (24:28):
Speaking of Justin Fields, Matt Eberflus with the Bears, Chris
Yeay or Nazy.

there Monday, whether or not.
Speaker 4 (24:39):

Speaker 1 (24:43):
You think he's out on Monday. They've had a nice
little stretch. They're gonna be Packers.
Speaker 4 (24:46):

Speaker 5 (24:47):
Yeah, they beat the packers that haven't beating the packers
in Green Bay since twenty eighteen.
Speaker 4 (24:51):

owned the bear.
Speaker 3 (24:54):

Speaker 7 (24:57):

Speaker 7 (25:03):

Don't say, Chris, keep the show. It's the weekend. Can
I have a job.
Speaker 7 (25:37):
I always that gets fired?
Speaker 4 (25:40):
You know, rob G? What what was the over under?
How many years before I got fired?

Two and a half. But you've lasted ten years before?
Speaker 1 (25:49):

year radio show. Yes, I had a ten at three
different stations.
Speaker 5 (25:57):

Speaker 3 (26:01):
And now every one of them was called the Eye Couple. No,
