Speaker 2 (00:25):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
All Right, our number three here on The Odd Couple,
Fox Sports Radio. On the Worship Wednesday, Rob Parker and
Alan Lee in for Chris Broussard. We're expecting Chris Beck Minyana.

Speaker 4 (00:47):
And depends on how well tonight goes, doesn't it?

Speaker 5 (00:50):
Is that? What how it works?

Speaker 4 (00:51):
Is that what it is?

Speaker 5 (00:53):
I don't know if it's like that. If it was,
that would be interesting to me.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
But we're broadcasting live from the tire Rack Dot Studios
and we're gonna go to the NBA. Allen our number three,
Alan Lee, a legendary broadcaster from Detroit. I don't know
how many years did you do the morning news on eighteen?
Was it that long? My god?

Speaker 4 (01:15):
Yeah, tell me about it.

Speaker 5 (01:19):
I remember those mornings. I don't know, and then the nowadays.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
If you do morning news on the local television you
work from like four am to eleven in the afternoon,
right they have I right.

Speaker 4 (01:30):
Alan, Oh my, I just it's nuts. Now.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
Well, because they got them there, they got a field programming,
and they don't want to pay for syndicated shows.

Speaker 5 (01:38):
Am I right?

Speaker 4 (01:39):
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I put my foot down when they
asked me to do five straight hours. That no, no, no, no.

Speaker 5 (01:44):
That's just too much unbelievable.

Speaker 3 (01:47):
All right, let's get to the NBA, rob G. I
want to bring him in on this bomb show. When
I woke up this morning, I saw this thing about
the idea that the Warriors, you.

Speaker 5 (01:57):
Know, they were.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
Looking at Lebron's comments and thinking, maybe he's frustrated in LA.

Speaker 5 (02:04):
Maybe just maybe we can.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
Have another title run when we get Lebron and Steph
to play together. They already got KD that got them
two championships. Maybe they can team up Lebron and Steph
and one a few more. Rob Ge, how shocked were
you when you heard this nugget?

Speaker 6 (02:22):
Well, I'll tell you what wasn't shocking about the story,
Rob Parker, is that the way it reads. According to ESPN,
the person who instigated the entire recruitment of Lebron James.
The Golden State was Draymond Green, who has a history
of saying, you know what, my team's not good enough.
Let me get the biggest batters during the block to
find my battles for.

Speaker 5 (02:40):
Me because I had Lebron. Yes, man, yes he is.

Speaker 6 (02:43):
But remember he did the same thing with Kevin Durant.
Remember they lost to Lebron. He's like, we can't beat
these guys. I gonna call KD from the parking lot
and know he's a free agent, maybe he'll come to
Golden State, and.

Speaker 7 (02:54):
Then they and then he ran him out of town.

Speaker 6 (02:56):
And then now that he realized they don't have enough
to do it again, he's like, hey, I saw Lebron
putting out that hour glass of Mooji passive aggressive Bron.
Let me get him up here in the bay. So
ultimately what happened was Draymond Green told his ownership, Hey,
I think Lebron wants out of LA Let's go get him.
So his owner calls Genie Bus directly because they're tight

(03:18):
like that apparently, and says, hey, we want to cheer
for Lebron James, what do you think And Genie Buss,
being the owner that she is, decides. You know what,
I'm not gonna say yes or no. I'm gonna let
Lebron James decide where he wants to go. I'm gonna say,
go talk to Rich Paul. If Lebron wants to go
to Golden State, maybe we'll talk about it. If not,
then we won't. So apparently they reached out Rich Paul

(03:41):
and Lebron said, no, we have no interest in going
to Golden State right now. Would you rather stay in
Los Angeles? And that was the end of the story.
So the headline today reads Golden State contacts Lakers about Lebron.
Lakers say no, I think Rob g Allilee the Lakers
made a big mistake when they made that call. I

(04:05):
would have been ready to move on from Lebron. I mean,
he doesn't impact winning. Think about his tenure.

Speaker 5 (04:13):
Here Allan Lee. If it wasn't for.

Speaker 3 (04:15):
That Bubble Championship, it would really be raggedy and almost
a disaster. Years they didn't make the playoffs, they traded
away all these young.

Speaker 5 (04:23):
Guys that they had.

Speaker 3 (04:25):
Stock Pole thought they had a good team to go
with Lebron, and now even with the numbers he's putting
up in year twenty, they don't impact winning. And not
only that, Lebron's making all this money and now the
Bronni situation is gonna come next. Allan Lee, Right, he's

(04:47):
at USC. They got a bad basketball team at USC.
Bronni's averaging five or six points. Anybody else wouldn't be
coming out for the NBA through around Ali.

Speaker 4 (05:00):
Right, And you know, obviously, you know because my son
goes to the USC. He's one of my students, right, and
he covers the games a lot, and I watch all
the USC games. You know, I applaud Bronnie because I'm
so happy that he's actually this. This is my thing
with Bronnie. I don't even really look so much at
where he is basketball wise, because he's still works court.

(05:21):
I can't have a cardiac arrest. It's amazing he's even
on the floor. So I celebrate that with all my
heart to see that kid even out there. But for
these people who want to break down his game and
do all, I'm like, you know what, that's kind of
unfair to me. But yeah, you never know though. But
that whole discussion about Bronni coming out, and I don't
think there's an NBA executive that says, yeah, we'll draft him.

Speaker 3 (05:43):
Well, if they think they could get lebron Remember Rob
g correct me if I'm wrong.

Speaker 5 (05:48):
He has a player option.

Speaker 7 (05:49):
Yeah, right, that is correct, So.

Speaker 5 (05:52):
He can't alan.

Speaker 3 (05:53):
If it's the Charlotte Hornets or whatever and they want
to draft Bronnie, he could opt out of his contract
with the Lakers and.

Speaker 5 (06:00):
Play there with his son.

Speaker 4 (06:01):
It's obviously he doesn't need money. But do you want
to walk away from fifty one point four million dollars?

Speaker 3 (06:07):
No, but they can pay him something else. He's getting money.
I don't think money is really the issue. I think
it's the idea of playing with his son. But I'm
I'm if I'm the Lakers, they might have missed a
golden opportunity.

Speaker 4 (06:18):
Yeah. Reportedly the seventy six ers also call. And I
think when the question was, well, you are you giving
up in bead, I think you know the obviously idea.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
Of your Philadelphia not giving up in bed. You're going
to give up everybody else. You got to keep him
beat Otherwise, what's the purpose of making that trade?

Speaker 8 (06:38):
You know what?

Speaker 4 (06:38):
The Warriors. I wonder if the if the conversation got
beyond are you willing to trade lebron to or what
are you willing to give us? What's now?

Speaker 5 (06:49):
I'm sure it was exactly the way they said it.

Speaker 3 (06:51):
Like Jeanie said, well, talk to Lebron as people before
we even talk about anything. If they're not interested, then
we're not going to even talk about it, you know
what I mean, like you to get a feeler. I'm saying,
if they called me and i'm Genie Buss, I'm like, hey,
let me talk to those guys and what are you
talking about here?

Speaker 5 (07:08):
Because I would be interested moving forward?

Speaker 3 (07:11):
And then they want they got what they wanted out
of Lebron, and only you got a championship Mickey Mouse
or not, Bubble or not. You got a championship with Lebron.
What are you expecting? Look at the Western Conference, they're
like ninth or tenth. They're not a good team. They're
not winning a title. They're not But what are you

(07:33):
holding on to? The tickets are already bought for the season.

Speaker 4 (07:36):
Yeah, But if you're here Lebron and they and Genie
ask you whether you want to get traded, he has
to say no. You know why he has to say
no because if you still engage in the goat conversation
for Lebron to pick up again and go play for
the Warriors. He would be destroyed by the people who

(07:59):
were in the Golt conversations saying you cannot even begin
to compare him to Jordan. Now there is no way
said yes, I get that, I get that part.

Speaker 3 (08:09):
But I'm looking at this from the Lakers standpoint.

Speaker 8 (08:13):
That.

Speaker 3 (08:15):
People were interested in trading for a guy who's what
thirty nine now twenty years? What is he thirty eight
going to be thirty nine? Yeah, twenty years in the
league to wear and tear. We already talk about the impact.
He puts up really good numbers. They just don't win
a lot, right, right. If you can move off somebody

(08:35):
like that and someone has value, the Lakers are gonna
sell tickets.

Speaker 5 (08:39):
Whether Lebron's there or not. Allen Lee, you know that
this is Los Angeles exactly.

Speaker 4 (08:45):
But I think it goes back to your other point though, Like,
if you honestly think BRONI is gonna come out with Alan,
I think he needs another year of college.

Speaker 3 (08:53):
Dude, he with Lebron on year twenty one or two,
you're waiting another I don't believe.

Speaker 4 (08:58):
I just don't. I don't think he's gonna get drafted.
He's coming out, that's the whole thing. So you have
to sign him as a free agent. He's gonna have
to go to the gage.

Speaker 3 (09:06):
I think somebody will draft him.

Speaker 4 (09:10):
I just I just think there's too many other good
players in the country to take that gamble. He needs
another year college at least.

Speaker 5 (09:16):
I agree with you.

Speaker 3 (09:17):
But I'm talking about that if they think they could
have a chance to also get Lebron, Like, that's the part.

Speaker 4 (09:24):
Yeah, that's the character that really looks bad because he
walked anyway and you.

Speaker 5 (09:29):
Got nothing and you got nothing. You got nothing.

Speaker 4 (09:31):
That that that's my sign and trade kind of thing.

Speaker 5 (09:36):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (09:37):
I think I think Lebron's tenure is checkered at best.
And I know people say he want a title. He
want a title. I'll use a checkered This was not
what I was expecting when he not only came here allan,
when they were able to pull off the trade for
Anthony Dats. Is this what you expected that they would

(09:58):
be scuffling at this point. Lebron would be putting up
points in there at five hundred team.

Speaker 4 (10:02):
And at the end of every season, once you get
down to the second half, of the season. It's always
what we need more, right.

Speaker 3 (10:10):
We need to trade, we need we need to make
more wholesale changes. We need to make trades.

Speaker 4 (10:14):
Right.

Speaker 5 (10:15):
I just don't.

Speaker 4 (10:15):
I don't.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
I don't see it, Robbed. You you're the resident Lakers fan.
Are you the Lebron's tenure? Is it checkered? Are you
okay with it because they want a championship?

Speaker 5 (10:27):
Or is it stinky? If you touched it you'd have
to wash your finger?

Speaker 4 (10:31):
Wow?

Speaker 7 (10:32):
Wow, oh my gosh, like you were almost in Save Harbor.

Speaker 9 (10:37):
Now.

Speaker 6 (10:37):
You know what, Rob, I think checkered is the right
word because as a Laker fan, we are not the
Cleveland Cavaliers. Like, winning one championship does not satisfy Lakers.

Speaker 3 (10:48):
Right for them, it was the first one in fifty
years or whatever, so they're satisfied.

Speaker 6 (10:52):
For the Lakers, you know, we win two or three
a decade like this, getting one is not as big
of a deal to us as it is to some
other franchises. You know, if this was Orlando, he'd have
a statue already while he's playing, right, you know, because
they don't win anything over there. But to your point,
they got the one championship, which was great, but the
rest of the four and a half five years has

(11:14):
been very and even has some of the most disappointing,
uninspired basketball that I've ever seen. And I lived through
the Robert Sachray, Jeremy Lynn, Nick Young era, right like
when the Swish Parker the smush clip when when Kobe
Bryant was on I think Jimmy Kimmel and they show
him the team celebrated if losing eight straight games and

(11:35):
how disgusted he was, Like, I lived through that era.
But the difference was that we didn't have any expectations
at that time, so it was, yeah, this is embarrassing,
but you know, it is what it is. When Lebron
came here and they got a d the expectation was
not just that we're going to compete, it was that
we should be one of the favorites. And year in
and year out, they go through these lows where they
almost quit on the team, usually right around the trade

(11:57):
deadline and the Russ Westbrook fiasco where they were one
of the most disappointing teams in NBA history. They have
all that those Hall of famers, and they missed the playoffs.
Like it's a very uneven tenure, and that's what I'm saying.

Speaker 5 (12:12):
It is definitely checkered.

Speaker 3 (12:13):
You know, like some people would say, oh, you got
your championship, and that's what I'm saying. Genie Bus should
have been like, well, we got our championship. The Lebron
era wasn't a total buss, you know what I mean.
It wasn't what we expected. We got a d locked
up for years to come.

Speaker 5 (12:26):
Move off of Lebron.

Speaker 3 (12:27):
He doesn't impact winning the way he used to. And
then we're gonna have to deal with this brownni situation.
Let us just wash our hands with this Allen.

Speaker 4 (12:35):
Rob You know what, though some Laker fans I tell
you they make they are willing to just give excuses
for the biggest thing. I remember. I saw some Laker
fans who were saying during the Kobe statue unveiling, I
darely how could the NBA schedule the Denver Nuggets on
Kobe's statue Knight, Like it was too tough of a

(12:56):
game for the Lakers to probably have to.

Speaker 5 (12:58):
They wanted a Cup game.

Speaker 4 (13:00):
I want to like, you play the schedule what I
was supposed to give you a that.

Speaker 3 (13:04):
Was supposed to be a big night. The Lakers and Denver. Right,
that's the right game.

Speaker 4 (13:08):
Right, I like Kobe would say, like, yeah, bring it on.
I'm not gonna sit here and worry about so what
these scheduled. The Nuggets beat them.

Speaker 3 (13:17):
Unbelievable, all right, I'll telephone number eight seven seven ninety

Alan, eight seven seven.

Speaker 7 (15:18):
You know I've done it before.

Speaker 5 (15:19):
I did it in Detroit. I remember giving out my.

Speaker 4 (15:21):
I see what you're trying to do?

Speaker 3 (15:23):
Eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight seven seven
nine nine six sixty three sixty nine is the phone number?
And did the Lakers blow it by not trading Lebron
or at least attempting to make a trade.

Speaker 5 (15:34):
People were calling for him. I think they missed the boat.

Speaker 4 (15:37):
Where are you all right? Well, people aren't calling. Let's
talk to Thomas from Victorville, California. You're listening to the
Odd Couple on Fox Sports Radio. Thomas, Happy Valentine's Day
to you.

Speaker 12 (15:48):
Thank you, sir, all listening to the Odd Couple. It's
time show up choice.

Speaker 5 (15:52):
Thank you, my man. We appreciate the support.

Speaker 12 (15:56):
Now, Robie know I love you and I love the
show up. And now I got a small boat to pick.
It's a kicking bone, but it's a bone, okay. When
it was time for the trading deadline, I called in
and the topic was, you know, what's in the Lakers'
best interest? Do we pick up bad third stringer? Do
we pick up bad third stringer? You know we're going
to make an impact.

Speaker 9 (16:16):
It's never going to make an impact.

Speaker 12 (16:18):
And I'm not sure if I was the only one,
but I know that you and I sparred a little
bit because I said, you want to improve the team,
you trade Lebron. You trade him now while he's got value.
I'm a die hard Laker fan, and by the way, Alan,
I ain't no cupcake.

Speaker 4 (16:35):
I'm saying that.

Speaker 12 (16:37):
I'm saying that, you know you do. It's best for
the name that's on the front. And if we could
have gotten even three quarter value for Lebron, you got
to consider it because at the end of the day,
if we don't, we're going to be stuck with this team.

Speaker 5 (16:52):
And no, no, no, you're right.

Speaker 3 (16:54):
And the reason that I say this is knowing now
that team would call him for him and that there
us some sort of trade market.

Speaker 5 (17:01):
I think they missed a boat. That's what I'm saying.

Speaker 12 (17:03):
I'm with you, Okay, I'm good with that because we're
all the same money. The consensusus this team ain't up
to Laker caliber.

Speaker 5 (17:10):
It ain't gonna win anything.

Speaker 4 (17:12):
You know that.

Speaker 12 (17:13):
It's not funny if we start building out and I'll
tell you what. This is the same team that traded Shack,
So I got no truck. Well, letting go of the
big name as long as we can get value back,
even if it's three quarter value, because right now what
we got we ain't going nowhere.

Speaker 9 (17:30):
Tell me if I'm wrong.

Speaker 5 (17:31):
No, you're not wrong at all. I mean, you have
a good night, right, you appreciate it.

Speaker 3 (17:36):
The only place the Lakers are going is home dinner
or maybe a show.

Speaker 5 (17:40):
I mean they're not going anywhere else.

Speaker 4 (17:41):
Well, you know, we do have beaches out here, rob.

Speaker 5 (17:43):
Okay, maybe a beach. All right, that's fair.

Speaker 4 (17:45):
Andre from Massachusetts. You're listening to the Odd Couple on
Fox Sports Radio. What's your take on this?

Speaker 9 (17:52):
How you doing it?

Speaker 8 (17:52):
Thanks for taking the call, Listen. I had to be corrected.
I'm doing okay, but I had to be corrected by
Robber on this. In terms of Lebron not having a
no trade clause, which is very unusual for the individual
that spearheaded and is the champion of the player empowerment movement.

Speaker 4 (18:10):
Wow, yes, right the fact.

Speaker 8 (18:13):
Though, CEO, you know Rich Paul for all the good
stuff that he does. You know, Lebron James is the
godfather of clutch sports, so him not having the no
trade clause was news to me. He does have a
clause where he gets like fifteen percent more if he's traded.
But with that in mind, and if I'm Genie Bust,
who's been kind of Genie bus has been out front

(18:34):
and firm, she said. In terms of Lebron James and
asked questions, she said he plays on our team. That
was Genie Bus's response. He plays on our team, meaning
Genie Bus is not having Lebron. You know, Genie Bus
runs the show for the Lakers, and that you know
the behind the scenes that Lebron always tries to do
to kind of get control.

Speaker 10 (18:53):
He has not succeeded for LA.

Speaker 8 (18:55):
So to your original point, I think they should have
been recepted to this deal with Golden State. I think
Jeannie Bust being a smart, smart business woman she is,
she's on the Jerry Jones plans. Lakers are not going
anywhere fast with this team. They're not gonna win a championship.
Everybody knows it. But they're making money hand over fist
with you know, the most marketable player in the league
still for a couple for more.

Speaker 4 (19:17):
Right here where.

Speaker 3 (19:18):
But Dray, you noticed this Browning thing is coming up? Okay,
what are they? What are the Lakers going to do?

Speaker 9 (19:24):
If I'm the Lakers?

Speaker 8 (19:25):
You know, and based on what you guys have said before,
Lebron Brownie Jr. For as good a kid he is,
he's not an NBA prospect And after two years or
even four years, if his last name wasn't James, he
wouldn't be an NBA prospect. I love the katie's a
good you know, all that other stuff. But if he
decides to go into the NBA Draft, he's he gonna
go undraft. You can get Lebron Bronnie James Jr. And

(19:45):
get this marketing you know, eyeball, you know, money get
to you know, uh by just having him be undrafted
and just putting him on the roster. So I don't
think it's going to be a huge deal for teams.

Speaker 9 (19:56):
He's gonna go on.

Speaker 8 (19:57):
You wouldn't waste the second round pick on Lebron James
if you had any kind of sense to the GM.
But you can get him as an undrafted prospect.

Speaker 9 (20:03):
He's on the ross.

Speaker 8 (20:04):
The people follow, what your attention and your views, your
revenue goes up, and at the end of the day,
back to Jerry Jones scenario, you're just not gonna win.
Thanks taking the call.

Speaker 4 (20:13):
Thank you appreciate it all. I appreciate Raphael from Cincinnati.
You listen to the Odd Couple on Fox Sports Radio.
Happy Valentine's Day. Tell you Rafael, what's going on?

Speaker 10 (20:21):
Bros?

Speaker 9 (20:22):
Back at you guys, Hey, you know see My take
is I don't think I think all this was talk
about bron trading. And sure, I think the teams that
might have inquired about it it was just out of
curiosity to see. But I think he's untradable. I think
the Lakers are stuck with him. I think Bron is
gonna leave under his own terms.

Speaker 3 (20:40):
And is he gonna leave because they won't pick take Bronnie?
I mean, what do you think is going to happen?
Because if he does, and Genie Buss could have traded him,
I mean, he has no trade claw they could have
moved him if they wanted to.

Speaker 9 (20:54):
Yeah, and he I think getting something in return is
just not feasible because even at this stage of his career,
no team is going to give up the the the
whole farm in the kitchen seat for.

Speaker 5 (21:05):
No but but but it's better than nothing.

Speaker 4 (21:07):
I agreed it.

Speaker 5 (21:08):
You're not gonna get it, You're gonna.

Speaker 9 (21:12):
Yeah. Let me let me just say about the Bronni thing.
See my scenario how it's gonna play out. Bron's gonna
leave on his own terms. He's gonna set it up
to go back to uh Cleveland, the Cavaliers, and he's
gonna walk onto the team. They're gonna make a spot
for him, and they're gonna draft Bronni no matter where
he falls in the draft, how much he improves or

(21:34):
anything like that, so bron can fulfill us. Wiss is
playing his final season back home where it all started
in Cleveland with Bronni. After bron retires, then whatever happens
with Bronni, that's gonnas gonna happen with Bronni. But I
think it's just the King is going back playing with
the Cavaliers one season with this That's.

Speaker 5 (21:53):
A good scenario. And we're gonna save this tape right there.

Speaker 3 (21:55):
Mark this tape mark in future reference because that's a
that's a well played out story line, right alan.

Speaker 4 (22:03):
It would be It would be be a nice story.

Speaker 5 (22:05):
No doubt.

Speaker 3 (22:06):
All Right, we'll be back to We're gonna get back
to football with the Athletics. Dave David Lombardi, he covers
the forty nine ers. He joins us next. But first
let's get you caught up. Fox Sports Radio has the

Speaker 5 (22:29):
Now, let's welcome in David Lombardi.

Speaker 3 (22:31):
He covers the forty nine Ers for The Athletic Welcome
to the odd couple.

Speaker 4 (22:35):
How are you, David good?

Speaker 10 (22:37):
How are you doing?

Speaker 5 (22:39):
Excuse me doing just well? Man.

Speaker 3 (22:44):
Let's start with the news of the day and Steve Wilkes.
I thought the forty nine Ers defense played really well
in the Super Bowl, you know, through the first four quarters, especially,
Did Steve Wilkes deserve to get fired or was this
just so one having to be the scapegal for yet
another Super Bowl loss?

Speaker 10 (23:03):
Well, they might have played better in the Super Bowl,
but they didn't play particularly well all season, and I
think that this is a season long decision. They were
the number one defense with Demico Ryans in twenty twenty
two and they dropped the number twelve the run.

Speaker 3 (23:17):
But they did hold Patrick Mahomes to one touchdown on
a mouth punt in four quarters of the season.

Speaker 10 (23:24):
I'm saying they did play better in the super Bowl,
but this isn't You don't make decisions based only on
the Super Bowl, and I think that there was already
stuff that happened earlier in the year. Kyle Shanahan publicly
rebuked Steve Wilkes after the Minnesota game when he ran
cover zero with thirteen seconds before halftime and it cost
him a game. Kyle Shanahan actually called him out in

(23:45):
the press conference, and then he forced Steve Wilkes to
move from the booth down to the field. After Kirk
Cousins and Joe Burrow had lit them up. They dropped
from number two and run defense to number twenty six
this year. Again overall efficiency from number one to number twelve,
and they had more talent this year than they did
the year prior. They picked up Javon Hargrave and they

(24:07):
got Chase Young at mid season. They also gave up
one hundred and fifty rushing yards in the first half
to the Detroit Lions. That was an inexcusable defensive performance.
I mean, this Toots defense had been consistently top three
year in year out, especially once it came to the playoffs,
and they weren't that this year. They played better in
the Super Bowl against the Kansas City team that had

(24:29):
been averaging what twenty two points a game. It wasn't
the same Kansas City offense that we had seen every year,
but yeah, they turned it around, played a little bit
better in the Super Bowl. But again I think that
this might have been determined before the Super Bowl.

Speaker 4 (24:43):
They win the Super Bowl.

Speaker 3 (24:44):
And if they win the Super Bowl and hole Patrick
Mahoy gets fired on the as a defensive coordinator, there might.

Speaker 10 (24:51):
Have been a bit better wording. There might have been,
it might have been a little bit more of a
mutual parting of ways.

Speaker 4 (24:56):
I'm not sure.

Speaker 10 (24:57):
This didn't seem like a philosophical match, right. So they
brought in Steve Wilkes to they were counting his his
dB background that they said, Okay, we want him to
make the secondary better. But they didn't let him bring
any of his assistant coaches.

Speaker 4 (25:12):
Okay, yeah, he couldn't.

Speaker 10 (25:13):
Bring any assistants. Kyle Shanahan said, you're going to fit
within the system that we already have. I just don't
think that that match was ever there. Like just covering
the team every day, it never felt good. It never
felt good for the forty nine ers this year. And
I don't think the numbers. I think the numbers flesh
that out.

Speaker 3 (25:29):
Well, how much blame and alan you give? The next question?
One more should Kyle Shanahan get? I think you should
be fired. Three super bowls double digits doesn't run the
ball in the second half, doesn't you know, has let
these games get away from him? Where where is management
and ownership?

Speaker 5 (25:46):
There?

Speaker 3 (25:47):
They're cool, he's good, he's still a boy genius? Or
where where does he fit into.

Speaker 7 (25:51):
All of this?

Speaker 10 (25:53):
Well, who's going to be who's going to replace Kyle Shanahan?

Speaker 5 (25:57):
Bill Belichick? Bill Belichick? How about that?

Speaker 9 (26:01):
Well?

Speaker 4 (26:02):
I mean, I mean you asked me for a name.

Speaker 5 (26:04):
I gave you a name, a guy with six super Bowls.

Speaker 10 (26:07):
Well, six super bowls back when he had Tom Brady.

Speaker 3 (26:10):
It doesn't matter. But but he but Kyle Shanahan has none.
I'm just asking, I'm just asking, seriously, where's Kyle?

Speaker 10 (26:19):
The forty are thrilled with the fact that that they're
They look at it this way, and I'm just telling
you how they think, and they look at it in
terms of you've got to build the team to give
yourself a shot. And then it's an any given Sunday
thing on the Sunday of the Super Bowl. They've had
two shots at the Super Bowl, right, they've gone on
to there, but.

Speaker 3 (26:37):
They've lost the same way though, David, David, I get
all that, I get all that.

Speaker 5 (26:43):
If you lose, I'm.

Speaker 3 (26:44):
Just asking you, you've lost the same way three times
with the same guy. That's all I'm at. And before
it was Jimmy Garoppolo's fault. Now is Steve Wilkes's fault?
When is it going to be his fault? Is what
I'm asking.

Speaker 10 (26:59):
I think it's everybody's fault, right so, But just because
it's somebody's fault, just because he didn't play your very best,
or just because the ball bounced the wrong way, doesn't
mean that you have to fire Kyle Shanahan. Again, I
said the Steve Bolks decision was based on the Super Bowl.
I think it was based on the whole season of
performance and the fit within the scheme. But Shanahan's been

(27:21):
to two been to four NFT Championship Games and two
Super Bowls. Now with the forty nine ers and Ian
John Lynch inherited what was the worst roster in the
NFL back in twenty seventeen. So as long as they
have them in perennial contention, you have to think they're
going to break through one of these years that otherwise,
you know, you can go back to what Jed York,

(27:43):
their owner did when you push Jim Harball out in
twenty fourteen, and you know, Harball could never quite win
that Super Bowl in the windows time that he had,
in the four years that he had. But then it
went to Chip Kelly or first Jim tom Sula, then
to Chip Kelly, and it was a total mess until
they were able to bring in Shanahan and get back
into perennial contention. So I'm just the way that the

(28:04):
forty nine ers are looking at it.

Speaker 3 (28:06):
Did they ever do any research about what Tampa Bay
did to Tony Dungee when he couldn't win the Big
Game and they moved on to John Gruden? Or when
the Eagles left Andy Reid, they put Andy Reid out
and they still won a Super Bowl.

Speaker 10 (28:19):
Of course they did. John Lynch played for those Tampa
Bay teams, so I think John Lynch knows this history,
b and anybody. John Lynch won a Super Bowl with
Tampa Bay and then team that Dungee built, and obviously
Gruden Gruden was there when they won that Super Bowl.
So they Kyle Shanahan, John Lynch looked love working together.

(28:40):
They feel that the Coch and the owner of the
forty nine ers, Jed York, feels the cohesion between those two.
It's something that he had been looking for for a
long time that he didn't have when Jim Harbaugh and
Trent Balky were feuding at the top of the power structure.
So I'm just telling you what the organization believes right now,
and they really like to set up that they have

(29:00):
and they think that this group is going to be
able to break through here in the short term future.

Speaker 4 (29:07):
Hey David, let me ask you specifically, what area or
player position do you think this team really needs to
improve upon to get them over the hump.

Speaker 10 (29:16):
Offensive line, they had below average pass protection. They've had
below average pass protection in almost every single season. If
you're looking for something to really criticize Shanahan about, I
think it's his insistence that he can get it done
without top year pass protection. I think it absolutely is necessary.
You look at the one Super Bowl that the Kansas

(29:39):
City Chiefs lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They manage
only five pressures against Tampa Bay, and that was against
an older Tom Brady and Tampa Bay had a great
offensive line in front of Brady. The forty nine ers
outside of Trent Williams do not have a very good
offensive line. I think it was an issue for them
in twenty nineteen. I think their best line had been
in twenty twenty one when they got one year of

(30:00):
Alex Mackett center the pair of Trent Williams, but and
Malex mack retired after that. The right side is porous.
It was during this game they gave up nine guys.
They give up nine untouched pressures, unblocked pressures on blitzes
in this game. So the and and their quarterback is
not in charge of calling out the protections. And maybe
brock Berdy will be next year because of this. But

(30:22):
the the O line was just not not delivering in
this game. Way too many free rushers, and obviously the
right side just hasn't performed well, even even if just
monol Amano all season.

Speaker 3 (30:35):
So how that game, with all the deficiencies, how they
even lead with seven minutes to go.

Speaker 10 (30:44):
Well, over the course, brock Berdy has been excellent this year.
Even with poor pass protection this year, he scored really
well under pressure. So you have to give brock Berdy credit.
You have to give the trick play that Kyle Shanahan
called some credit right if you just want to look
at it, really tech and really literally they were able
to score their touchdown in the first half when they

(31:04):
threw back to Juwan Jennings, a receiver, and he threw
across the field to Christian diccaffrey. So it took some
smoke and mirrors to overcome some of the struggles. But
then you saw the line getting carved in in the
second half. You saw the Chiefs really run blitzing on
early downs. You mentioned that they went away from some
of the run there in the third quarter, the Chiefs
with Spagnola were run blitzing hard and that put the

(31:28):
forty nine ers into bad down and distance, and then
the line was enable to straight path protect on second
and third and long, so they finally figured it out
down the stretch and started moving the ball. But I
think a lot of that credit went to Brock Birdie.
I think remember the play that was right before the
field goal they had to settle for in overtime. He

(31:48):
rolled out, It was a fantastic play. He rolled out
and he found yuscheck to full back for the first
down near the sideline. And I think that play was
indicative of how the forty niners had some success not
only this game, at an NFC Championship game too. Perty
had to use his legs because he was getting her
assed there in the pocket and he had to go
and make some play. So put a good offensive line

(32:08):
in front of him. If they could find a way
to do that. I know it's easier said than done.
I think that he can take even another step forward
as a quarterback.

Speaker 3 (32:16):
All Right, David Lombardi man, thank you for your insight
and your information.

Speaker 5 (32:20):
I appreciate it.

Speaker 10 (32:21):

Uh, Rob Parker and Allen Lee putting a bow on
this bad boy, but coming to your life from the
tire rack dot Com.

Speaker 5 (33:10):
Studios, Rob g Allan Lee.

Speaker 3 (33:14):
Valentine's Day and my question to you as a divorced guy.
You guys are both married Valentine's Day, rob G. I
saw a beautiful picture.

Speaker 5 (33:24):
Of your little daughter.

Speaker 4 (33:26):
That was nice.

Speaker 3 (33:27):
But it's Valentine's Day when you're married. Is it to
be romantic? Is it a money grab? What is Valentine's Day?

Speaker 5 (33:36):
To you guys?

Speaker 4 (33:37):
I'm never going to admit it's a money grab.

Speaker 5 (33:39):
I'm just saying.

Speaker 4 (33:41):
It's not exactly those Barry White show you right kind
of nights either anymore. But you know, right, it's more
of an appreciation. I think the longer you stay into it.

Speaker 5 (33:52):
How long you've been married?

Speaker 4 (33:53):
Now, Alan, I have to go back and think about
that first.

Speaker 5 (33:57):
You don't even know how many years you've been married. Unbelievable.

Speaker 4 (34:00):
I judge it by my kids. Man, that's such a
great answer.

Speaker 7 (34:05):
I don't even know married, right.

Speaker 3 (34:08):
It's like, let me see, let me see, Junior came
two years after, two years before we were married, so
let me see, rob G. Rob G, you're younger, Alla
can't remember?

Speaker 7 (34:19):
How yeah?

Speaker 4 (34:20):
Right?

Speaker 5 (34:21):
How about you?

Speaker 6 (34:22):
You know what I will say that now, for me,
because my daughter is so young, I appreciate Valentine's Day
more because I want to be the example of what she.

Speaker 7 (34:34):
Should look for in her partner. So she you know,
she wants to.

Speaker 6 (34:39):
I want to treat her well, get her gifts or
whatever to make her happy with Valentine's Day. But as
far as my wife, like I gave up on Valentine's
like four or five years ago, did you really?

Speaker 7 (34:48):
Yeah? Like, I'll get her a card and that's about it.

Speaker 5 (34:51):
And she's cool.

Speaker 7 (34:52):
She's cool with it because we used to.

Speaker 6 (34:53):
Try to go out for dinner on Valentine's That's always
a pain. It's it's everything's overpriced, like a prefig Manu
and they are tripling the value.

Speaker 5 (35:02):
You know, I've told you this before.

Speaker 3 (35:03):
Now I'm divorced, But what I did my first year
being married, I took my wife to Paris.

Speaker 7 (35:12):
For your fault.

Speaker 5 (35:15):
You set that worked for me?

Speaker 6 (35:17):
How come I'm because everything from there on is a
step down. Right. That's like when in the Super Bowl
you're it's like, how can you take me to Paris
for Valentine's But on a Tuesday you got to go
to the park to watch the Reds from seven to
three on your night off.

Speaker 5 (35:33):
You already know.

Speaker 4 (35:33):
There you go, and that's a year two.

Speaker 6 (35:35):
We're going to Newark, honey, right, and you can't come
to the stadium.

Speaker 7 (35:39):
It's just credential only.

Speaker 3 (35:40):
Exactly, you can't come, right. That was the other problem.
It was unbelievable. But I still remember that that was
magical and even though the marriage didn't work, like, I
still think you can't get any more romantic than that.
Can you go to Paris for the weekend for Valentine's Day?

Speaker 4 (35:55):
Well? Well no, I guess you could. But I'm just
saying like no, I mean, you know, he third wouldn't
be bad.

Speaker 5 (36:04):
I guess, yeah, it was. It was one of those moments.

Speaker 4 (36:08):
And Rob you to answer your question.

Speaker 3 (36:09):
It's twenty nine, twenty nine years, okay, it's a long
time a man. Time only made five years seven together.

Speaker 4 (36:17):
You know you know what Robin Lawyers cost more?

Speaker 5 (36:21):
No, that's true. It's cheaper to keep her.

Speaker 4 (36:23):
That's a real song, ain't it that?

Speaker 5 (36:25):
It is unbelievable?

Speaker 4 (36:27):
All right?

Speaker 3 (36:27):
Well it's Valentine's Day and I know people are I
don't know, just I'm trying to go out to dinner
is probably a headache.

Speaker 4 (36:35):
Oh, a single guy out on Valentine's night, Huh, you
go round.

Speaker 3 (36:38):
I'm just I'm just hanging out, gonna I'm gonna wind
up going to the mall and return some clothes.

Speaker 5 (36:42):
How's that my Valentine boy?

Speaker 6 (36:44):
I promise you, Rob, It'll be easy for you to
meet women tonight than any other night because all these
women that are single and they don't have anyone who
spend time with, They're gonna see you with the Gucci
flip flops and Louis Vatan backpack.

Speaker 4 (36:56):
You're gonna be a Hallmark movie exactly a few once and.

Speaker 5 (37:00):
Rob G, they gonna roll up on me and say.

Speaker 4 (37:02):
Hey, especially those Golden Girls.

Speaker 3 (37:05):
Ty rob G already knows I don't want to get
in trouble with the Golden Girls comments.

Speaker 6 (37:11):
Well, speaking of the Golden Girls, when Rob one of
the Golden Girls crews and had no idea that it
was for a gay men and not.

Speaker 3 (37:22):
Not only there were older women there, there were women
with their there were women with their daughters.

Speaker 6 (37:28):
It was thet it with that movie Boat Trip with
Cuba getting junior like in real life.

Speaker 3 (37:32):
That's why, my god, but it was it was a
great time. I don't care anybody so that I enjoyed
my trip to Mexico. All right, it is good as
the odd couple. Hey, Alan Lee always appreciates you pinching
it for Christmas.

Speaker 4 (37:45):
Appreciate it, appreciate it. What if a romantic evening to
be spending with Rob Parker.

Speaker 3 (37:50):
