our man Mark Ramsey is in for DJ Alex ty
(02:46):
Shirt and of course is Elijah working.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
Is working? Yes, on the social Elijah, what's up? Yes? Everybody?
All right? Rob?
Speaker 1 (02:56):
A lot of people think that the NBA All Star
took last night off, Chris, Oh god.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
It was.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
We talked about it, Rob, we did. When was a
team going to score two hundred?
Speaker 2 (03:10):
We say that on Friday? Yoh, yup, two hundred and eleven.
They they went well past.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
Two hundred, two hundred and eleven to one eighty six.
The East beat the West.
Speaker 6 (03:22):
Rob.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
Just let me let me read you a few things
they combined for I believe a record one hundred and
sixty eight three point attempts.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
That's a record.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
Damian Lillard was the MVP with thirty nine points. He
shot eleven for twenty three from three point lane, twenty
three three. He was He took three other shots.
Speaker 5 (03:54):
I think that's what Michael Jordan took his first his
first NBA season.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
That's twenty three.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
Looking up that he probably didn't take twenty three.
Speaker 5 (04:05):
Yeah, that would be interesting just to see.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
Oh I look it up.
Speaker 5 (04:09):
Look, I know it wasn't that many because people were
taking threes only when they need three.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
Oh yeah, no, it's totally different.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
Let's see Chyrese Halliburton had a nice game thirty two points.
Here's the funny one, rob and Jaylen Brown dropped thirty six. Uh,
Carl Anthony Towns had fifty.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
He shot twenty.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
Three for thirty five fifty points, and no one seems
to care.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
He had thirty one in the fourth.
Speaker 5 (04:37):
Christ No one cares because they didn't put up up
any defense. No one want anybody to get hurt. What
was that that famous highlight that we keep seeing of
Luca just just throwing going up from seventy feet like
a moonshot.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
What was that when.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
Damian Lillard hit two and he made him but two
half court shots? Really impressive because they were regular jumpers
that he shot, but very impressive. But what what was
your impression of the game? Obviously were getting a little
hints from you, yes, but what did you think?
Speaker 2 (05:11):
Embarrassing? Just as bad? You know what, Chris?
Speaker 5 (05:15):
I didn't think there was anything that could be worse
than the Pro Bowl, And then yesterday happened, like like seriously,
like last yesterday last night was let us do our
best to turn people off totally to the NBA All
Star Game so that we don't have to play it anymore,
Like as if it was a design to get people
(05:39):
to be talk about it and say what can you
do which we should end it? Like that's what it
felt like like, total disregard for the league, total disregard
for the fans, total disregard round when.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
You say it for the league, because remember the commissioner,
Adam Silver, all we was pushing and we've been talking
to the players, Joe Dumars talking to the players, you know.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
About trying to get a competitor hard. Yeah, we're gonna
be competitive, That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
They lowered light, lightened up the pregame, you know, announce it.
Usually you had you know, might have guys dancing or
it's just beyond you know normal. When the way they
announced the players and uh they went back to kind
of a little more basic. Still was impressive. It was
good the way they introduced the players, but you know
they cut back because they thought that might help the
(06:31):
players be loose.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
No come out, none of you.
Speaker 5 (06:34):
And that's why I'm saying, Chris, like, for the com
how embarrassing for Adam Silver to have egg on his
face talking about that and putting that out there and
then they turned in that performance.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
That's why I said it felt like they were trying
to be like.
Speaker 5 (06:48):
Well, well, let's let's let's put our worst performance out
there so that people will finally just get over this
and we don't have to come here anymore. We don't
have to do this anymore. That's what it felt like
to me. I've covered a million All Star games. You
know this, You've done the same. I started covering the
league since nineteen eighty seven. I can remember going Chris
(07:08):
and the All Star weekend and what it was, and
you know, to see guys play together and all that
kind of stuff and the combination. It was interesting to me.
It really was. I'm not trying to be Joe old man.
It was interesting to me back in those days. And
what has turned into is a total embarrassment and not
(07:30):
worth watching. Chris even you would have tried to find
a Golden Girls marathon yesterday then watch that. That's how
bad it was.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
I mean I did watch it. I had it on.
I was doing some other stuff, you know, but.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
I watched it, and I can't disagree with anything you said.
Speaker 2 (07:50):
Rob.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
If you didn't know better, you'd almost think the players
were trying to convince right not to.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
Get rid of the game.
Speaker 1 (07:57):
That's what it felt like I get it in fall
because you know, I mean, that's a collision sport and
you can get hurt anytime you step on.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
The field, so we they should have.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
You almost can argue they never should have been playing,
you know, in a Pro Bowl tackle football with their
best players out there like that.
Speaker 2 (08:18):
Now they go flag, which is you could buy that
right better? Right?
Speaker 1 (08:22):
But this, I mean, Rob, and I said it Friday,
I meant it. The celebrity game was more competitive, right,
Am I wrong? No, Like we talked to Micah.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
Parsons and CJ.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
Stroud and Jennifer Hudson and whoever else was out there.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
I mean, they were trying.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Harder than these players, and there is no excuse, I
think Rob. When things went south in my view for
the All Star Game was twenty fifteen. I think I
said twenty fourteen last time I mentioned twenty fifteen in
New York City and they took one hundred and thirty
(09:05):
three point attempts.
Speaker 2 (09:07):
And we know last night we said they took one
sixty eight.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
But Rob, my view is that and we've talked to
X players, current players about how you know today's game
in the real games, the floor is so spread out
and to defend you have to cover a lot more ground,
which obviously takes a lot more energy. And so in
an All Star game, guys are obviously we just read
(09:32):
the numbers, are shooting tons of threes. So the defenders
obviously they're not going regular season speed, but they either
need to go out there and defend, and a lot
of times they're like, man, this is an All Star game.
I'm not really trying to cover all this ground. So
guys are shooting wide open threes, or if they do
(09:53):
go out to defend, then the lane is wide open
and nobody I mean the laying parts like the red
Seed during these All Star games and it's just you'd
go in for a driving dunk or layup and.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
It's just darn near unwatchable.
Speaker 1 (10:10):
And Rob I used to I mean when you mentioned
the eighties, when you start covering it. I was in
college still at that time, and watching the All Star Game.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
Was like must see TV for us.
Speaker 1 (10:21):
We wanted to see what tricks Isaiah Thomas, what tricks
Magic was gonna do? Jordan, And the thing is a
dunk in a game. A dunk is better when it's
on somebody. You know what I did like, I don't
know if you saw it, Rob, Trey Young, Nutmeg, Kevin
Durant put the ball between threw it between his legs,
(10:45):
kept his dribbling, scored. That was fun because it was
resistance Durant was trying. I remember when Tracy McGrady threw
it off the glass in one of the All Star.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
Games and dunked it.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
It was great because it was about four or five,
maybe six people in the lane when he did it.
There was resistance, and now you know, guys will do
it in the lane is wide open and it's no
big deal.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
So yeah, it was. It was pretty bad, Rob, and I.
Speaker 1 (11:16):
Don't want them to end the All Star Game, and
we'll talk a little later about possibly some things they
could do to improve it.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
But this is not a good look.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
And Rob, we've talked about the load management, which in
fairness is not all on the players. A lot of
it's on these teams and their trainers and their recommendations
to the players or outright demands of the players sitting
out low management robs or guys missing national games.
Speaker 2 (11:50):
Obviously the All Star Game.
Speaker 1 (11:52):
Being a mess, like they the players are not putting
their best foot forward for the team audience and there
we go. I'm glad to hurt them. They gotta realize
that they got a deal coming up. Quis their contracts,
TV contracts are coming up. If you are an executive,
who's gonna want this for ESPN or Turner of TNT.
(12:15):
You looked at yesterday and said we want that. No,
we don't want that.
Speaker 5 (12:20):
We don't And that that's the part that I think
that it's crazy that they really don't realize the damage
that they're doing.
Speaker 2 (12:29):
You're going to turn people.
Speaker 5 (12:30):
Off where they don't want to watch that, or the
or the network say, uh, we'll take an NBA package
one game a week, and we're not paying for the
All Star game. We don't want that. We don't want
that's what happens. We don't want any of that.
Speaker 1 (12:45):
No, it's it's real, and they need to like you know,
I remember Rob and I mentioned this before. I don't
remember where the game was, but it was one of
the Rising Stars games and it was basically what we
saw yesterday, and David Stern went off on how bad
(13:06):
it was and that doesn't represent the NBA and so
on and so forth, and you know, we talked Adam Silver,
He's got a lot of good qualities, but he's a
player's commissioner and sometimes you gotta, you know, you gotta
bring down a hammer on the players.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
And uh, that was just embarrassing, no doubt.
Speaker 5 (13:28):
Yeah, eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox eight. People
want to get.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
Nine six sixty three sixty nine. What'd you think of
the All Star Game last night? Was it embarrassing? Your thoughts?
Speaker 2 (13:38):
Next? Christ and Rob The Eye Couple Fox Sports Radio.

sure you check out over Promised and also uncensored by

little harder. It's gonna be the best after show podcast

I C eight seven seven ninety nine on Fox That'll
turned awagh in on the debacle.
Speaker 2 (15:30):
That was the NBA All Star Game. Chris, that's the
right word, no doubt. Yep.
Speaker 5 (15:34):
Stanley in Maryland, you're on the odd couple of Fox
Sports Radio on a Magic City Monday.
Speaker 2 (15:38):
What's up, Stanley?
Speaker 8 (15:41):
Everything is all good? How you brother's doing or not doing?
Speaker 2 (15:43):
Great? You're great, man.
Speaker 8 (15:46):
Great, great. Hey, I'm forty five. I just want to
say real quick two things. I'm forty five, and this
game that they call All Star Game nowadays is absolute trash.
And it's almost like telling the guy you know that
picked up the call, I was telling him like it's
almost like a back back in the day backyard blacktop
(16:09):
game at a cookout.
Speaker 5 (16:11):
Like, you know, I don't even think it's that, I know,
because you know what in a cookout, right, Chris, You're
not trying to let somebody score fifty on you if
you had a cookout exactly.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
Hey, But I think what it is and keep keep
the caller on what it is.
Speaker 1 (16:25):
In my view, you know, how you play open gym
and maybe you've played now for a few hours and
then sometimes there's that last game is kind of done,
and yeah, they're not playing hard guys at cherry picking,
and it's just not compared.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
That's what it is to me.
Speaker 8 (16:42):
I get that and that and that makes sense too.
And also I wanted to say this last thing before
you'll you guys have a better night. I understand, and
I understand that Ding got MVP and he should be recognized,
but I think that Cat should have MVP, not just
because he dropped a fifty T chicken nugget from Chick
fil A, because he played. He was the one that
(17:04):
played the most defensive and offense I think in the
whole game, y'all have a good night.
Speaker 2 (17:08):
All right, appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (17:10):
I mean, Kat was trying, but he was driving to
the whole nobody's stopping him. He's just, you know, scoring.
I was fine with Dame the one thing. Rob Dame
clearly went for it. Now, maybe that's because there's a
budding rivalry, you know, between the Bucks and the Pacers,
and Dame was but Dame hitting the two half court
(17:31):
shots like regular jump shots. I mean that was impressive.
But Tyrese Halliburton probably had the best game. He only
took fifteen shots. I think had thirty two points.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
That could have been Chris. He might have been the MVP. Yeah,
you know you're talking about Halliburton. Yeah, I'm just saying
it was a regular game because he was hometown.
Speaker 1 (17:57):
But he wasn't he played a regular game. It wasn't
playing selfish. The Dame was clearly going for it and
it looked Dame shot well and god's impressive.
Speaker 5 (18:06):
Marty in Kentucky, you're on the odd couple of Fox
Sports Radio. Marty's a hoopead kind of guy. I know
you weren't.
Speaker 2 (18:12):
You didn't enjoy that, Marty, No, sir, Rue, how.
Speaker 9 (18:16):
Y'all doing this Magic City under.
Speaker 2 (18:19):
From you?
Speaker 6 (18:21):
Well, guys, you know what's what's happening now clearly is
not working at not entertaining. They've got to experiment, find
a way to make this have some pride in it. Now.
I think it's time and and you know, the out
the players out of the country have you know, they've
come to the point where I think that it's really competitive.
(18:44):
If we go USA versus the world, and you promoted, promoted, promoted,
make it us best out of three series.
Speaker 2 (18:52):
Make it at all, start with come on, Marty, you
got up to do all that? Come on, no, you
can you know best of three?
Speaker 5 (18:59):
If somebody they have something playing three games Chris over
the weekend, stop Mary.
Speaker 2 (19:04):
One can't do it. You could just play one game.
Speaker 1 (19:09):
I kind of think that, I mean, I think it
would It would take out some pride, you know, it
was Americans would have pride because a lot of it
like Yo Kicch and Luca in particular, and Giannis.
Speaker 2 (19:25):
We used to see Yannis at the beginning of All
Star Games.
Speaker 1 (19:27):
He's really trying and then he looks ridiculous out there
because he's going hard. Nobody else is playing exactly. He's
kind of bought into the it is what it is.
Speaker 2 (19:36):
But your Kicch clearly doesn't fit in this.
Speaker 1 (19:40):
Like he don't even look like he could play basketball
in this in this setting, I mean really, And Luca
doesn't look good either.
Speaker 2 (19:47):
Terrible. All right, Thanks Marty.
Speaker 5 (19:49):
Andre in uh South Florida, you're on the couple of
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
What's up? Andre?
Speaker 10 (19:55):
Hey, you guys doing favorite show?
Speaker 2 (19:58):
Thank you, buddy.
Speaker 10 (19:58):
I look forward to.
Speaker 9 (20:01):
It's crazy how like over the past, I would say
it's maybe been like the past, like seventy years the
regular season means nothing. The Slam Dunk Contest means nothing.
Speaker 10 (20:11):
They don't play hard.
Speaker 9 (20:12):
The All Star Game, that that was How could you
even watch it? I can understand being there in person, right.
Speaker 2 (20:17):
You paid for the tickets, right right?
Speaker 1 (20:19):
Look, I wait the last one I went to in person,
it ain't much better in person.
Speaker 5 (20:24):
No, but I'm saying once you what I'm saying, once
you get there, Chris, and you paid your money in
your flight. Oh you know what I mean, you're gonna
go there right right?
Speaker 10 (20:32):
Yeah?
Speaker 9 (20:32):
When seeing those guys in person, they're they're they're huge,
they're superstars. It's different in person, and that ed is awful.
I don't know what the NBA is going to do
because you cannot have they've taken away them playing during
the season minimum game where you get the fans get jobs.
Now the All Star Game it's awful. I mean, that
(20:54):
is a wonder. It was like, ww that was a
fit game.
Speaker 8 (20:59):
Person scripted. It was awesome.
Speaker 2 (21:01):
That was That's a good call. Yeah, the w W. Thanks.
You need to have a.
Speaker 1 (21:05):
Real talk with the players, the players Association in the
league needs to be like, look, this is gonna hurt
the bottom line, which is your paycheck.
Speaker 2 (21:13):
This is gonna hurt us.
Speaker 5 (21:14):
We're in contract negotiations with the network and we put
on that one more. Chris Michael in North Carolina. You're
on the couple of Fox Sports Radio. What's up, buddy?
Speaker 10 (21:26):
Hey guys, how's it going going good? Rob? I know
how much you love baseball, but I gotta tell you,
the NBA All Star Game for many, many years has
been my favorite All Star game. But after last night,
that was a pathetic disgrace that I watched. I mean,
can you at least try to defend just a little bit.
(21:49):
I mean, two hundred eleven points isn't It's just an
abomination and the only way you can fix it, in
my opinion, is if you added just like they did
for the for the nd season tournament. Is compensation. Otherwise
I think they have to get rid of it because
it's it's a disgrace and gotta tell you, nobody's gonna
(22:11):
fit on that.
Speaker 8 (22:12):
Thank you, guys.
Speaker 2 (22:13):
Yep, I'm not sure.
Speaker 1 (22:15):
I mean, first of all, five hundred thousand dollars to
a lot of these guys, particularly All Stars who a
lot of them, most of them are probably max.
Speaker 2 (22:21):
Making thirty million. Chris forty millions.
Speaker 1 (22:24):
Don't know that that's going to do it. And Rob, Look,
the verdict is still out.
Speaker 2 (22:29):
On the n season tournament because it was Lakers Pacers, which.
Speaker 1 (22:33):
Tells me that those aren't the top teams in the league. Nope,
a lot of the top teams didn't take Lebron really
took it seriously, which was a good look for the league.
Speaker 2 (22:44):
But I don't know how seriously the other.
Speaker 1 (22:46):
Teams took it. Now we'll see next year do they
take it seriously. But I don't know if that extra money,
Rob is gonna do it.
Speaker 2 (22:56):
I'm with you, the money is so big. Chris.
Speaker 5 (22:59):
Yeah, it's just not what is going to make people play,
and and and the other thing is just simply you
gotta It's was supposed to be a showcase for the league.
Speaker 2 (23:12):
That's all.
Speaker 5 (23:13):
Nobody's asked me to get hurt, do anything crazy, Chris.
Just play basketball the same way you would play in
a pickup game in the offseason. It's the same you
play against other guys, Chris, in the offseason. There's always
a chance you could get hurt and something like that,
but you play. You don't go out there and do that. Otherwise,
what's the point of there's no point of it.
Speaker 2 (23:33):
Yep, no doubt, no doubt.
Speaker 1 (23:36):
All right, well, it wasn't all bad rib over all
Star weekend. We'll get into some of the good next,
but first be Finn Brian Finley.
Speaker 2 (23:44):
Is that long question unless you to Kenny Stidy, I'm
just saying, yeah, Chris and Rob, good to talk to you.
Speaker 11 (23:50):
And obviously we're still in the thick of things with
the NBA All Star breaks, so we're gonna be doing
that hockey. We're also going to be doing that NASCAR
and not much going on befit. Yeah, well wait a
minute here, speaking of the Daytona five hundred, Yeah, this
is where we do it. So in the lead right
now is not Brandy Chastain or Jessica Chastain, it's actually
(24:13):
Ross chas Stain. And there's about eight laps to go,
and there was a huge pile up on Aisle four here,
so they've got the caution flag out waving the yellow
flag with eight laps to go, so they literally just
went bumper cars and cars were going on the infield,
they were hitting up against the outside wall, and so
(24:33):
we're probably going to have a little bit of a
time needed to figure all this out and clean up
the course. But yeah, it is the Daytona five hundred,
which you can watch on Fox Television.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
Never a dull moment there.
Speaker 11 (24:45):
As far as what else is going on, we do
know that the Brooklyn Nets are going to be making
assistant Kevin Alli their interim head coach, and he is
going to be in charge of practice starting tomorrow and
we'll be coaching his first game as headman on Thursday
against the Toronto Wrap. Minnesota Timberwolves guard Mike Conley Junior
agreeing to a two year, twenty one million dollar extension.
(25:05):
College Shoops. Arizona's Tommy Lloyd has signed an extension through
at least the twenty twenty nine year. He'll reportedly make
five point two five million dollars in year one, and
that cash money is going to go all the way
up to six million in year five, So he will
be doing a cannon ball in a pool of cash
here pretty soon. And then lastly in the NHL, because
(25:29):
we have to make sure we give them some love
here with all the other sports on hiatus. The Ducks
with an afternoon win against the Sabers four to three,
the Bruins winning four to three against the Stars by
way of a shutout. And I know everybody was watching
this one. The Wild winning ten to seven against the Canucks,
while lastly christ and.
Speaker 2 (25:49):
Robbers pitched in that game. He missed ten to seven
hockey game.
Speaker 11 (25:53):
Yeah, ten goals and apparently five goals were scored in
under five minutes.
Speaker 2 (26:00):
How about I mean, you could you and I.
Speaker 11 (26:02):
Could go out there, Rob and play goalie and we
could probably do the same thing. And then and then finally,
speaking of a four to three score, that was the
end of the Red Wings kracking game, and it actually
ended up in overtime the Red Wings win four to
three and without to get it back to Chris bry
started Rob Parker, and I think that's the most NHL
talk that we've ever discussed on the.
Speaker 2 (26:22):
Show in the news room. That might be a record.
Speaker 1 (26:26):
I think there'll be plenty more over the next couple
of days. But all right, Rob, like I said, it
wasn't all bad. I thought the best part of the
weekend was All Star Saturday night, and then it was fantastic.
Speaker 2 (26:38):
But it was good and the highlight of that.
Speaker 1 (26:43):
And you know, for those that didn't see it, they
had the skills competition they had the Rising Rising Stars
was I think Friday night, but they had the skills
competition Saturday, they had the three point shootouts and then
they had the Dunk Test and they had a special
three point shootout as well, and that was Rob the
(27:07):
WNBA Shootout winner Sabrina Unescu and against Steph Curry, who
is regarded as the best shooter ever in the NBA.
And Rob he has the record I want to say
it's thirty one or in the NBA All Star Shootout,
(27:29):
and she broke that record in the WNBA All Star
Shootout shooting from the WNBA line, which is a little closer,
but to this event one on one.
Speaker 2 (27:41):
She shot with.
Speaker 1 (27:42):
The WNBA balls, which the smaller, but she shot from
the NBA three point line, as of course did Steph
with the NBA balls and Rob. First, let me say
this because we've talked about whether it's a one on
one competition we'd love to see in the All Star
Game or or even the Dunk contest, and why you
(28:03):
know some guys won't get in it because you know,
their brands are huge, and if they don't win it,
you know how's that gonna look? It could make they
feel like they could look bad and hurt their brand,
whatever the case. But basically brand, the ego, pride, all
that is keeping a lot of guys from doing these things. Well,
I'll give credit to Sabrina and Steph Sabrina number one
(28:28):
because Rob, I mean, she was essentially representing women out there.
You know, it was like if she had gone out
there and been nervous to the point where she couldn't shoot, well,
you know, sometimes even you just have an off shooting,
you know, competition and if she had really played shot
poorly a lot of people wrongfully, but still they may
(28:52):
have looked at that as representative of women's basketball players
or shooters or the WNBA or what have you.
Speaker 2 (29:01):
Rob, he had nothing to game. We talk about it
all the time.
Speaker 1 (29:04):
What will Lebron have the gain in a one on
one competition like in his prime?
Speaker 2 (29:08):
Nothing? Right, if he doesn't win it. If he wins it,
it's like, well, yeah, you expect if he loses it, he's.
Speaker 1 (29:14):
Gonna get ripped. And that was Steph right. I mean
I know, Rob, you would have been here, destroyed greatest
shooter my foot.
Speaker 5 (29:22):
You already know, right, I have.
Speaker 1 (29:27):
It written grip ready to go thing, right, but that
you know, he had nothing to gain and everything to lose,
and he went out there. So I give him credit.
Speaker 2 (29:38):
Not he won twenty nine. He hit twenty nine.
Speaker 1 (29:41):
Shots or points. She hit twenty six and rob that
would have tied the winner. Lot of NBA shooters. Damian
Lillard won the three point shootout, but he hit twenty six.
Speaker 5 (29:54):
But you gotta remember to win, right, No, And what
George gotta remember in those things, Chris, is that score
has to be done when you when you're winning, once
you knock off the people and it's a tournament, so
you know, you look at that number, go wow, Well
she had twenty six, doesn't mean that if it came
down to she would have that, she would have necessarily,
(30:15):
you know what I mean, move or exactly at you
know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (30:20):
Or more right, that's all. I'm not knocking off.
Speaker 1 (30:22):
And she got she got off to a great score
of the night outside of Steph was twenty six and
she was one of those that did it.
Speaker 5 (30:30):
And she and she got off to a great start.
I mean when she knocked out nine or not right nine?
Speaker 3 (30:37):
Ten?
Speaker 5 (30:37):
Pres God, I'm not hit every shot, but I'm just
speaking from experience.
Speaker 1 (30:41):
You may have gotten a little tired, you know, because
again she's shooting from the men's line, which is a
little further. And we're gonna get into Kenny Smith's comments
the next segment not go into that.
Speaker 5 (30:51):
But I will say this as someone who played a
basketball game against the Hall of Fame Woman's player and
Nancy Lieberman, which I played in the Detroit Pistons practice facility.
I did lose that game, but she slipped in a
w NBA ball on me, Chris and I had I
didn't have any.
Speaker 2 (31:11):
Touch, she wouldn't have wiped the No, but I didn't
have any touch.
Speaker 3 (31:14):
It was too small.
Speaker 2 (31:15):
It felt like a volleyball.
Speaker 5 (31:16):
I'm not kidding you get like like I'm just like
I was like bummed out when they gave me said,
oh no, we're playing with this.
Speaker 2 (31:22):
I was like, this is too small, Like I was
knocking down shots. Why don't you just drive on her? Though?
Speaker 5 (31:28):
Yeah, because I felt like I'm six foot four and
what about to just go to the moon and just
drive and twelve to two and nah, I scored the
first two baskets of the game.
Speaker 2 (31:41):
Okay, I think I had four or five to so
one of the guys, one of the guys. I get it.
It can mess up your shot, but you handle and
stuff will be Nah.
Speaker 5 (31:51):
No, I just felt like I wanted to make some jumpers,
you know what I mean. I didn't want to just
stay at the basket and just uh and just put
it like what's funny. He is one of my radio
partners at that time, one of the guys at the station,
the late Jamie Samuelson. He was like, Rob, you will
not score a basket. That's what he said on the radio.
Could you lead that, Chris, that I would not score
(32:13):
a basket against her? And he's like, I'll bet you
twenty dollars that you don't score in the game. So,
of course, when I scored the first basket of the game,
what do you think I did, Chris?
Speaker 2 (32:25):
And got your money? I called time out. I swear
to you, I scored the basket. I know the story.
Speaker 5 (32:30):
I called, hey, there's new listeners every day, and I
called time out.
Speaker 2 (32:36):
And I went over. I said give me my twenty
dollars and I went back, No, do you want to see?
Speaker 1 (32:43):
Here's what I like to see going forward, Rob, I mean,
I think I don't necessarily need to see her and
Steph go at it again. But I wouldn't mind seeing
like a two on two or four on four, you know,
for of the NBA shooters against four of the WNBA
sh shooters or two on two and you know it's
like a team score. I think something like that would
(33:06):
be fun. I mean, if they discontinue it, I'm not
gonna lose sleep. But considering what we've been talking about already,
I mean the league, you know, they need things that
are be exciting. And to be honest, Rober, I think
I think it could help the w n B a two.
You know, because the w NBA got a w in
this even though she lost, the fact that she shot
(33:27):
so well, it gave them publicity they don't usually get,
you know what I mean, like it might help a
few more people say, you know what, let me check out.
Speaker 2 (33:36):
I know you're younger than me.
Speaker 5 (33:38):
It reminded me of the seventies and Billy Jean King
and Bob Bobby Riggs.
Speaker 2 (33:44):
Does that wing about to you?
Speaker 5 (33:45):
I remember, No, I didn't see it, but yeah, right
in tennis, Billy Jen King and Bobby Riggs played and
he was very sexist against women and were like, oh,
you know, like they they they can't play tenn this
and this and that, and Billy jan King was one
of the greatest women's tennis players at that time, especially
(34:05):
in the seventies. But anyway, it reminded me of that.
And you're right, w NBA, Yes she did. He was older,
of course, yeah, he was already right, he thought that
he could beat her, you know what I mean, as
an old guy, right right, and she's in her prime
and no she beat him.
Speaker 2 (34:20):
Yeah, So but it was I thought it was good.
Did you did you like it?
Speaker 12 (34:24):
Over?
Speaker 2 (34:24):
I thought that really was the highlight of it. Yeah,
that was about it. Yep, that was it.
Speaker 5 (34:29):
I agree, And especially because she got off to such
a great start. When you're looking at it and going wow,
it was like, oh.
Speaker 2 (34:35):
My, wow, she might win this thing.
Speaker 8 (34:37):
All right.
Speaker 1 (34:38):
Kenny Smith had some comments on the contest. We'll get
into that next. They were controversial, so don't miss that.
It's the Eye Couple of Christa Rod Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (34:47):

Speaker 1 (34:59):
All right, it's the Yeah A Couple Live from the
tire rag dot Com Studios and Rob. We were just
talking about Sabrina your next scu uh facing off against
Steph Curry in the shootout, kind of ballotad of sexes,
if you will, and Kenny Smith who was commentating. I
really liked listening to Kenny. I don't necessarily agree with
(35:21):
everything he says on these at All Star Weekend, but
he's always fun, particularly during the dunk contest. But he
said something that was really controversy about Sabrina Uh in
the shootout.
Speaker 2 (35:33):
Here's what he said. I think she should have shot
to her. She should shot for the women.
Speaker 8 (35:40):
I still use some suprena.
Speaker 13 (35:42):
I still suprena shot from the brief point line that
the women shoot from. Why are you putting little boundaries
on her? She's not a bald. She wanted to shoot
and have a small ball. Don't Betty shot billy ball,
w a ball to smaller.
Speaker 2 (36:02):
She shot with the w.
Speaker 12 (36:04):
Shot from the line. There's a women's tear golf and
it's a men's teeth for a reason. No shooter shoot
didn't know what you said. Yeah, but they shoot from
where they choot some second. No, no, no, it's a
pretty good John Sabrina, don't let any man put the
boundaries on.
Speaker 2 (36:20):
You like giving it whether give them a record ball, there,
don't boundaries, give the.
Speaker 8 (36:24):
Record ball there?
Speaker 2 (36:28):
All right, I go first, you go first.
Speaker 1 (36:30):
First of all, I don't think Kenny needed to make
the comments because she just hit twenty six, you know
what I mean. She just made as many threes as
any of the other men outside of secuences.
Speaker 2 (36:45):
I think that from jump that's the problem. That's the
first thing, is right, right? But you like, she shot
well right almost one.
Speaker 5 (36:53):
Now, if you wanted to make the argument, uh, if
you wanted to make an argument, I don't think that
was the argument.
Speaker 2 (37:01):
We go ahead, let me hear what else?
Speaker 1 (37:02):
You yeah, I means right like, there was really no
reason to say it because she had done so well.
Speaker 2 (37:09):
If she had done poorly, he could have said, oh,
you know what I said.
Speaker 5 (37:12):
It wasn't really fair to her because she's not used
to shooting this distance.
Speaker 2 (37:16):
This is not her guy, because I.
Speaker 1 (37:17):
Thought initially they were going to have her shoot from
the women's line.
Speaker 2 (37:21):
I thought that initially that was the talk.
Speaker 1 (37:23):
You want to have a competition of this, rob All
the people getting self righteous and jumping on Kenny Smith,
Oh he's sexist. He stop it, like even Reggie saying,
why are you putting boundaries on it? Kenny Smith not
putting boundaries on them, the WNBA putting boundaries on them.
Speaker 2 (37:44):
If anything sexist.
Speaker 1 (37:46):
If you if that's your thought, why do they have
the shorter line for the women? They're saying they need
a shorter line. So I don't think Kenny needed to
say it, because she clearly proved she could shoot from
the men's line. But my point is to act like
he was tripping. He's right, she shot with a smaller ball.
Speaker 2 (38:06):
They they already gave they there are work for me
when I said she I had to play with the
smaller ball, right, right, But their difference is baked in
to the w NBA game. That's all. So if you
think you really are like Kenny was, being sexist, no,
let's keep it real.
Speaker 1 (38:25):
The w NBA, it has the small the closer line,
They have the smaller balls.
Speaker 2 (38:32):
But somebody they want to go ahead and use a
men's bond move the line out. They can do it.
Speaker 1 (38:37):
But that if anybody, I don't think any of them
are being sexist, like he said, you got women's teas
and golf that the closer. So people tripping on all this,
you know, oh he can't. There's differences between men and
women people.
Speaker 5 (38:53):
But I say this is this is where I think
somebody if they push back at the right time. Is
the point that you made, which was Kenny, what are
you saying she just knocked down whatever? She didn't need
the short line? Why would you bring that up when
she made all the shots? Are you discounting it because
she you know, like that. But but that's at the twelve.
(39:17):
If she had like bombed out, Chris, then you could
use that argument. But at that point she just excelled
and had done better than anybody could have imagined.
Speaker 2 (39:26):
That was the moment right there to be like wow.
Speaker 1 (39:30):
You know if anything like I said, maybe you have
said you could have said, I'm glad she didn't shoot
from the women's line like she showed she could shoot
from the men's line.
Speaker 5 (39:42):
How was that that she was at the men's line. Yeah,
she used a WNBA ball because that's the field that
she has. It wouldn't have been fair to either person
if you gave the guys a w NBA ball. Chris,
you know that it's a feel same for her. She
can't give her a men's BA. Now after that she
plays with a women's ball, she's not gonna have her touch.
Speaker 3 (40:05):
So that makes sense.
Speaker 2 (40:06):
I mean, you you mat now.
Speaker 1 (40:08):
I don't know because obviously, right we talked about how
hot she started. I think she hit what eight of nine,
and then obviously she slowed down. Did she get a
little tired. Maybe that's possibly because you know, you shoot
like I gotta be honest, like when I playing in college,
they had just put in the three point line when
(40:28):
I played in college, and I, you know, so if anything,
I was shooting college streets.
Speaker 2 (40:33):
I really didn't shoot a lot of threes in college.
Speaker 1 (40:35):
But when I first started trying to shoot from an
NBA line, it was like, yo, I can't do it,
Like you know, it was like yeah, I was like,
this is ridiculous. But then over time, as I did
it more just playing around and stuff. Now it's not
nearly you know, it's just a typical shot, you know,
further out. But it's a shot you can make, and
(40:57):
that can you know, initially, if you're not used the
shooting at that distance.
Speaker 2 (41:02):
It can wear you down a little quicker. So maybe
that was a factor.
Speaker 1 (41:06):
But the bottom line route. There was just no need
for Kenned to even say it. But I also think
people jumping on anymore. But that's just they actually got
a shorter line.
Speaker 2 (41:16):
Guys. Yeah, understand that it.
Speaker 5 (41:18):
Was a weird comment at that time, considering that she
had just done pretty well.
Speaker 2 (41:24):
I think most people would say she shot the ball well,
so so it was just kind of weird.
Speaker 1 (41:29):
Yeah, all right, it's the eye couple of Christian Rod.
We've got two hours left here on Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (41:35):
Keep it locked.
