Big game tonight in the NBA. The Denver Nuggets and
the Minnesota Timberwolves, both teams fighting for that number one
seed in the Western Conference.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
They're tied.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
They have the same exact record, so the winner obviously
moves into first place in the conference.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
And I'll tell you what, for both teams, it.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
Would be huge to get that number one seed in
home court advantage. But Denver Rob that altitude is real,
and for them to get home court advantage again through
the Western Conference playoffs.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
Would be huge.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
Last year they were six and three on the road,
which is good in the playoffs, but at home they
were ten to one, and so they this is gonna
be big time game to night.
Speaker 3 (02:02):
So we'll see who prevails.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
Karl Anthony Towns, who will be back for the Timberwolves
in the next game or two. He'll get a game
or two end in the regular season before the playoffs start.
He will not play tonight though, But I say that, Rob,
because there was a big game last night too. Kind
of on the other end of the postseason rankings, if
you will. But the LA Lakers hosted the Golden State
(02:28):
Warriors and the Warriors won one four twenty. Anthony Davis
did not play, but the lost rob devastating for the
LA Lakers.
Speaker 3 (02:39):
So now here's the deal.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
They're still technically in ninth, but you know how this works.
The lost column is the one you want to look at.
They're a half game ahead of the Warriors. Lakers are
ninth seed, Warriors tenth seed. That's because they've played.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
One extra game and so they've won one more game.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
But they both have thirty five losses, so the Lakers
Rob no longer control their destiny for even the tenth seed.
If Golden State wins out, they will be the at
least the ninth seed, and the Lakers.
Speaker 3 (03:16):
Will likely be the tenth seed. Sacramento is right there
as well, and then the Lakers would have to do Chris.
Speaker 1 (03:25):
So let's say Golden State finished ninth, finishes ninth, the
Lakers finished tenth. The Lakers will have to go to
Golden State beat them in a one game in a
one and done game, and then if they win that,
they'll play the loser of the seven to eight matchup,
which right now is Phoenix and Sacramento.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
Wow, so here's the deal.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
Sacramento, Now they Milik Monk is out, that's gonna be
that's gonna hurt them. He was looking like my sixth
Man of the Year initially, but he's hurt now, so
that could change things. But Rob, Sacramento has beaten the
Lakers eight of their last nine matchup.
Speaker 3 (04:07):
They own them.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
Anthony Davis has never beaten Demonta Sabonis to match that
would be tough. And then the Suns. Look, they got talent.
They got Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, Bradley Beal. So the
Lakers have to beat if it pans out this way,
they will have to go to Golden State and win,
(04:32):
and then go to Phoenix and win. That's a tall order,
rob And that's just to get to the playoffs or
you know, I'm saying Phoenix, but it could be Phoenix
or Sacramento.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
I'm just that's just to get to the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
So yeah, I mean that was a devastating loss for them,
and there they are a pretty good team and they've
been playing good basketball. But to think that they could
actually miss the whole postseason.
Speaker 3 (05:05):
All together is is incredible.
Speaker 4 (05:08):
That would be that when you look at Chris that
A D and Lebron were healthy all year for the
most part. Like, that's the part that doesn't make any sense,
doesn't Yeah, the only thing.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
To make out of it. Obviously a D is playing great.
He's in the running for Defensive Player of the Year.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
Chris.
Speaker 4 (05:26):
They want they wanted to playing U Yeah, like they've
had some Yeah they did.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
When the play I think Rob and Lebron, look, he's
playing fantastic for his age, and he's he's still playing
like a probably will make the All NBA, you know,
one of the All NBA teams, just three. But I've
been saying it, You've been saying he's not playing as
(05:51):
well as his numbers suggest, right, the impass the difference.
His numbers are essentially what they've been his entire career
pretty much, but yeah, the impact just isn't there. Lebron
is skilled enough, especially now that he's added the three
point shot, and smart enough Rob to know how to
score in this NBA. But you know, defensively, he's obviously
(06:16):
not what he used to be. He doesn't, you know,
control the tempo of the game.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
Like he used to.
Speaker 1 (06:23):
And that's that's the only explanation to me. I think
they have a nice cast of role players. A lot
of people want to rip Darvin Ham and I'm not
saying he's red Rbach, but when they've played well, it's
never Darvin Ham's. You know, he never gets the credit
Rob when they play well and win, No, no, when
(06:44):
they lose, everybody wants to kill it.
Speaker 4 (06:46):
They've been won to fire him all year after they
won them Interceeason tournament, the UNGA banner. Now all of
a sudden, he can't go right right, So all I'm
saying is, which one is it? Chris does that if
that matters, and you're hanging up banner, And before the
season's even over, he's out.
Speaker 3 (07:03):
Like I just don't. I don't get it.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
And he might be out if they lose, if they
don't get to the playoffs, the real playoffs.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
He might be out. There's no question about it. Now.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
Let let's go to the other team, Rob, the Golden
State Warriors, and I have said that the dynasty is
over and I don't think they'll win the championship.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
I don't think they'll get to the finals.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
But I will say this, Rob, I have amended my
view of the Warriors. I think now I thought before
that they're ceiling. Now I'm not picking them necessarily to
get there, but their ceiling was the second.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
Round of the playoffs, absolute ceiling.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
Now I think their ceilings the Western Conference finals, like
I do think now, I think you've got Denver in
the West and then a group of teams, the Hippers,
the Timberwolves.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
The Lakers if they survive and the Warriors.
Speaker 1 (08:07):
I'll throw in there a group of teams that you
know are a notch below the Nuggets. I'm not throwing
OKC in there because I'm thinking playoffs and I don't
think they have the experience. But I'm throwing Golden State
in there now, and not just because of last night.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
Obviously that was an operation.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
They hit twenty six threes, Rob, they shot sixty three
percent from three. That's not gonna happen in league history,
of course, of course, but they have actually been playing
really well over the last two and a half months.
Speaker 3 (08:42):
Rob, since January twenty eighth. You won't believe this.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
I guarantee it's gonna knock your socks off. The Warriors
have the fourth best record in.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
The league since January twenty. Yeah, it doesn't feel like that.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
I was surprised, but twenty five eleven, that's a fifty
seven win pace.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
And Boston Denver.
Speaker 1 (09:07):
I think, and I can't think of the other team,
but three teams I think Dallas, maybe three teams have
a better record than them over the last two months.
And the kicker is Steph hasn't been playing typical Steph
Curry basketball. He's only average twenty three for like the
last month and a half, Klay has.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
Found his groove again.
Speaker 1 (09:28):
The young players put Zimski kaminga Moses Moody, Gary Payton
the second he's been around for you know, we know
him on this team, but they have played well. Trace
Jackson Davis six ' nine is giving him a somewhat
of an inside presence and he's athletic. And then Chris
Paul runs that second unit like they they're dangerous.
Speaker 3 (09:50):
Again.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
I'm not a team I think can make the finals,
but they are dangerous.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
And the thing is, Roblan, let me ask you this
real quick, I want to get your point on this. Yep.
So last year, if I remember, remember the match up
with the Lakers.
Speaker 4 (10:05):
They don't have the side and the length Chris to
deal with Anthony Davis and the Lakers. So if they
played in that in a game, wouldn't you give the advantage.
Speaker 1 (10:18):
To I definitely think I'd give the advantage to the
Lakers in a seven game series, but I might pick
them in a one game. But the thing is the
problem with the one game, Rob is we we know
anything can happen.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
We saw it last night.
Speaker 1 (10:34):
What if the clip, what if the Warriors get hot
like that, and that's the thing. There are obviously a
great shooting team, so they can on any given night
go ballistic from three. That's the problem with playing them,
and that's the challenge that the Lakers face. Now, I
mean two, one and done situations. Man, that's a lot.
(10:58):
And I'm not saying they you know, you're right, I
think with a D it's a whole different animal.
Speaker 3 (11:04):
Yeah, I'm not. I'm not sure I would.
Speaker 4 (11:06):
I would pick at them, you know what I mean,
even though I hear you, because last year when they
played the Lakers, they just seemed like they were out manned.
Speaker 3 (11:15):
They didn't have enough. Now they feed them three out
of four this year.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
But you know, regular season doesn't always translate in that
in that regard, and the one win the Lakers got
was over double overtime, I believe, So, you.
Speaker 3 (11:30):
Know, it's not a.
Speaker 1 (11:33):
Lopsided matchup, but the Lakers definitely have a definitive size advantage.
And the Lakers have been shooting the three well lately
two so if they, you know, maybe they could match
Golden State from three. And then Anthony Davis playing well
inside is a difference maker. So but the bottom line
(11:53):
is this is tough. Let's bring in the resident mister
Laker Homer.
Speaker 4 (11:58):
Rob Grob six Field the last night, he's sick, he's sick.
Speaker 5 (12:02):
Yeah, it should be somebody called Subway because the ham
sandwich has gone bad. That's a Rob Parker special. I
felt like Rob when I said, look, man, it's hard
to take a whole lot from the game because, as
you mentioned, the greatest shooting night in NBA history for
one side and the Lakers not having ad like it's
a really big difference, right, But as far as the
(12:24):
bigger picture situation goes, it's terrible for Laker fans. Yeah,
I mean because as when they're healthy, they can be
with anybody this side of Denver. I feel like in
a playoff series, the problem though, is you might not
get that opportunity to show that you can compete with
anybody because you gotta win two playing games, and the
Western Conference being as tough as it is, the toughest
(12:44):
it has been since like the Kobe Duncan Dirk Nash era.
When teams are winning fifty games, top eighteen to fifty games,
like if they were in the Eastern Conference, they'd be
like the three seed right now, but instead there.
Speaker 3 (12:59):
Because they wouldn't be playing. It's tough with a.
Speaker 5 (13:00):
Sketch exactly, And so it's a really tricky situation. I
gotta tell you. As much as I'm a Laker fan,
I want the team to win, you know, even if
realistically I don't think that we can this year. Part
of me feels like it would be better for all
parties involved if they end up losing in the playing
and get eliminated.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
Well, let me let me ask you this, and I
want to it's related to that. But first let me
say they'd have to win these two playing games, likely
on the road. They're the worst rob of all the
top ten teams in the West, Lakers on the worst
road record seventeen to twenty one, So that's gonna be tough.
But Rob, g let's say that happens they get bounced
in the first playing game and Lebron. Do you want
(13:41):
to bring Lebron back?
Speaker 5 (13:43):
I don't think you have a choice because you can't.
You can't bought him out, like you're not in a position.
Speaker 3 (13:49):
To bottom out. So that's all one to ask. Yeah,
But the thing.
Speaker 5 (13:53):
Is, I do almost rather than lose, if only because
and I'm not trying to you know, deflect blame from
the clutch sports situation of all that. I understand that
part of it, but Darvin Ham is the worst in
game coach I've ever seen. And that's including Luke Walton
and Byron Scott and god yeah, he he just stands
there with his hands in his pockets.
Speaker 3 (14:13):
You know.
Speaker 5 (14:13):
Yesterday's game obviously was lost a three point line, but
in the third quarter they cut it down to five
or six. He trots out a lineup that's never played before.
They end up going up by seventeen. He never once
calls a timeout, Like, he just stands there watching the game.
Speaker 4 (14:26):
That's the biggest I see on Twitter all the time
watching the game.
Speaker 3 (14:30):
Yeah, I mean, I'm him not calling Todd mouths Chris. Yeah,
about him not calling people like his.
Speaker 5 (14:35):
Allegiance to And this is stuff that was well reported
in the Atlambert the Athletic had of report where they
had six different sources. You guys have been in this
game for a long time. If you have two sources,
that's a lot. So they had six different people come
up and tell him like, look, man, Darvin Ham's playing favorites.
He's not putting out the lineup that we had last
that made a run of the Western finals. He wants
to play Camraddish and Tory and Prints for whatever reason.
(14:56):
And we're struggling. And that stretched out for a month
and a half, and that month and a half is
ultimately could be the difference between them even making the
playoffs at all or you know, not Well.
Speaker 1 (15:08):
They've been playing well for the last you know, three months,
but the West is that tough where they could you know,
find themselves outside on the outside looking in when the
playoffs begin, all right, eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox,
we're talking Lakers, We're talking Warriors. Do either of them
have a chance in the West? And which one do
(15:28):
you think will not even make the playoffs the final
eight in the West?
Speaker 3 (15:33):
Your thoughts next?
Speaker 1 (15:34):
Christ and Rob the Akable eight seven, seven ninety nine
on five.

Speaker 1 (16:53):
All right, It's the A couple live fromthtirerag dot Com
Studios eight seven seven ninety nine off Fox. You'll turn
the way in on the Lakers and the Warriors. Two
legendary players leading these teams, Steph Curry Lebron James. Which
one won't even make the playoffs this year? Your thoughts
(17:15):
I caome.
Speaker 4 (17:16):
All right, let's kick it off with Andre Drean Massachusetts,
join the couple of Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 8 (17:23):
How you doing? Thanks for taking the call.
Speaker 3 (17:25):
What was it?
Speaker 8 (17:26):
Lakeup, the owner of the Warriors complaining about the luxury
tax last year, and now Adams overcame like lightning. You know,
I e. David Sterns, you know with the five hundred
thousand dollars a million dollars. Fine, guess what Warriors? You're
missing the boat this year? Okay, because this team is
not built correctly. You already have situations like with Orlando
(17:48):
trying to headhunt Clay out of there. Draymond we know
his situation at tenuous. I just feel both of these
teams it's going to be nice ratings for the playoffs,
and the NBA can kind of ride that wave. But
they're going they're going in the wrong direction. And they
need to honestly think about a fire sale to start
rebuilding from scratch. Warriors, you keep Steph, everybody else can
(18:10):
go with the Lakers. I'm done with this ad Lebron.
It's not going anywhere, and it's good. They're like the
Dallas Cowboys, is what I'm saying. You're gonna make money
ratings wise, but especially in the Western Conference. The team,
you know, it's just not going to reach that other
level beyond bringing in Browny and getting even more ratings.
(18:30):
So you know, the league has the tides have turned
and it's about the young teams. Oklahoma City, Minnesota, if
they can get back healthy, Denver still going to be
in the mix.
Speaker 3 (18:40):
You know, you take Oklahoma City over the Lakers in
a series.
Speaker 8 (18:45):
Oklahoma City is going to slack the Lakers, silly, even though.
Speaker 3 (18:48):
The Lakers have owned them this year.
Speaker 8 (18:51):
Great, you are what your record says you are, and
I'm looking forward.
Speaker 1 (18:54):
But a Lakers record doesn't say they're bad. It's just
the West is so deep. I mean, now, you experience
counts for nothing. I'm just asking you you Apparently you
don't think.
Speaker 8 (19:05):
So experience, but you know, it's a young man's game.
It's a young man's league, and this Oklahoma City team
what they have and the Lakers won't have. When it
comes down to it, Chet home from sat his behind
down last year and had to wait Changellius Alexander has
been chomping at the bit, and there's a ten year
difference between them and the Lakers. So on paper, Chris,
in conclusion, we're talking about Muhammad Ali versus Larry Holmes.
(19:28):
I'm taking Larry Holmes. Thanks taking a call.
Speaker 1 (19:30):
Wow, I didn't think Andre would resort to just cliches.
Speaker 3 (19:35):
He had nothing. He's a bunch of cliches. He's down.
He's down on both of the teams. Yeah, and I.
Speaker 1 (19:47):
Thing, I think I would take both of them over
okay See. And I think okay See's future is bright,
but lack of experience could So you're not gonna buy
okay See until actually do it, like you're gonna.
Speaker 3 (20:01):
Say no, not do it. But I just need I
mean Lakers, I mean beat the Lakers.
Speaker 1 (20:06):
Yeah, I mean next year, if they have a great
regular season, I really believe they're gonna be able to
do something in the playoffs. But I think it just
takes you know, Rob, we know the history of the league.
You need experience to go deep in the playoffs. Would
you take Minnesota over the Lakers? I think I would
take Minnesota because they do. I mean, Rudy Gobert is
a veteran, Karl Anthony Towns is a veteran, and Anthony
(20:30):
Edwards is not. But you know, with those two veterans
and him, Mike Conley is a veteran, you know what
I mean, Like, that's a veteran squad.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Chris Brussard and Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm
Eastern four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the
iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (20:49):
Rob.
Speaker 1 (20:49):
What isn't nice is the future of John t Porter,
if indeed he has found guilty now.
Speaker 3 (20:56):
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.
Speaker 1 (20:58):
Rob said this afternoon that if John tay Porter, the
Toronto Raptors forward, is found guilty of what he is
charged with, which is multiple instances of betting irregularities over
the last few months, that he could be banned permanently
(21:20):
from the NBA.
Speaker 3 (21:21):
Silver called it Rob a cardinal sin.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
So Rob, g give us the breakdown of exactly what John.
Speaker 3 (21:32):
Tay Porter did.
Speaker 5 (21:34):
John tay Porter literally bet on himself, which normally is
a good thing. You tell all your rob tells his mentees,
bet on yourself, good self, and John tay Porter bet
on himself. Good things did happen. He made a lot
of money. The problem is he bet the under and
that kind of gave it away. According to multiple outlets,
basically what he did was on two separate occasions, at
(21:56):
least on January twenty sixth and March twentieth, Porter played
briefly before leaving each game citing some sort of injury
on this one of them was an eye injury actually,
And before each game he bet the under heavy on points,
three pointers, rebound, so on and so forth, because he
knew all along he was never going to finish those
(22:17):
games right, And according to multiple outlets, these websites that
he used. I don't know exactly if it was fan
duel or or which one it was, but these sports
books have contracts with the NBA, so as soon as
these irregular betting habits were notified by them, the NBA
(22:38):
should have no problem if it's true, finding out exactly
what he did and what he.
Speaker 1 (22:42):
Didn't do, and what he doesn't understand too yes, I mean,
I look, I don't condone it. I was not like, well,
but that's ridiculous somebody else's name, but that, Yeah, I mean,
come on.
Speaker 3 (22:54):
But the other thing, Chris, that he doesn't understand.
Speaker 4 (22:57):
You think these games, you know, Emlyn Houses are gonna
let somebody beat them out of money, and they can
see like, why would there be a big bed on him?
Do you understand like that? There are levels of money
that come in. They know, Rob g Right. They always
talking about public teams. People always bet a lot of
(23:18):
money on Green Bay or Dallas or certain teams, Chris Right,
the Lakers. But for a ton of money to come
in on a player like that, and then for him
to come out of the game under questionable circumstances, they
have to look at that.
Speaker 5 (23:33):
They will, and Rob, That's exactly why when I was
at the Super Bowl, you were there too. I went
down to the sports book. I wanted to lay down
some money on some prop bets. They have limits in
place specifically for this kind of stuff.
Speaker 3 (23:46):
Lamar Mitchell, friend of the show.
Speaker 5 (23:47):
No matter how many times the name drop them, is
not gonna let me drop fifteen to twenty grand on
the under on a John Jay Porter bet because they
know that's usually something fishy.
Speaker 3 (23:56):
There you go.
Speaker 4 (23:57):
They already know Chris and somebody who's coming on Johntay
Porter and then laying down twenty five thousand dollars on
a Tuesday night, you know what I mean?
Speaker 3 (24:07):
On the under? Wait a minute, why would you make
it that bet?
Speaker 4 (24:11):
Or you would feel that confident that he's gonna have
under five and a half threes, right or whatever the
number is right?
Speaker 3 (24:18):
Right? And and John T.
Speaker 1 (24:20):
Murray, guys, he was making I'll guess how much money
he's a porter? Or say Murray, I'm saying, Johntay Porter,
guess how much money he made this season?
Speaker 3 (24:31):
Right? What his salary is this season? To guess? Twelve million? Robber, oh,
four million.
Speaker 1 (24:41):
Four hundred eleven thousand, seven hundred and ninety four dollars.
Speaker 3 (24:45):
There you go.
Speaker 1 (24:46):
So that's the thing I mean, we we think of
these NBA, all these NBA players of making a ton
of money.
Speaker 3 (24:53):
I think, Indy a two.
Speaker 1 (24:54):
Way is G league, you know, back and forth between
the G League. If I'm not mistaken, but all these
guys aren't making this money. And so and I'm not
obviously not giving him an excuse I'm just saying the temptation, right.
But I'll say this, Rob, if he's guilty, he should
(25:15):
be banished for life.
Speaker 3 (25:18):
You have no choice, Chris, You have no choice.
Speaker 4 (25:20):
From this standpoint. We talk about the integrity of the game.
You just can't play around with it.
Speaker 3 (25:27):
You can't.
Speaker 1 (25:29):
And especially especially, I mean it's always been the Cardinals,
sim but now Rob, with these betty, these gambling can
I get it. They want to make sure it's you
know what I mean, like everything.
Speaker 3 (25:45):
Is above board. Yeah, I mean I get it. Like
it's mixed signals.
Speaker 4 (25:50):
Play fans go ahead and vote, I mean beat And
when I was in Cleveland, Chris, they have the they
have the gambling house right there in the arena, you
know what I mean, it's right inside.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
It's definitely a mixed message.
Speaker 1 (26:07):
But you just and again he's not a guy that
was making you know, a lot of guys you might say, wow,
would that makes sense.
Speaker 4 (26:15):
Chris four eleven and you can come on, you could
do go make fifty thousand.
Speaker 3 (26:20):
A night, right.
Speaker 1 (26:22):
I mean, he might play three years in the NBA.
He that's definitely not enough enough money for him to
live off of.
Speaker 5 (26:28):
But but don't you think guys if you're gonna do
something this shady that you would try to cover your
tracks a little bit.
Speaker 3 (26:34):
My cousin is putting down the bet, right, you know what.
Speaker 4 (26:37):
And my cousin is is actually five thousand at this place,
five thousand at that place.
Speaker 3 (26:43):
Chris, you don't make a big bet like that, now, Rob.
Speaker 5 (26:45):
According to ESPN, one report from them that the normal
prop betting limit on one of these houses is one
thousand to two thousand dollars. Right, he was betting upwards
of ten to twenty thousand dollars from more tople accounts. See,
so when you have that level of unusual activity.
Speaker 4 (27:06):
It's a red flag. It's a red flag. They're looking
for that stuff. They're looking for that.
Speaker 1 (27:12):
I mean, he he well look, I mean yeah, I
mean there's there's no two ways about it. He was
just very ignorant about the way he went about it.
And again, the bottom line is when something like that's happening,
I'm glad he got caught because you don't, i mean.
Speaker 3 (27:31):
Think think about that.
Speaker 1 (27:34):
He's out there now, he's not a guy that plays
a ton, but still he's out there messing up games.
Speaker 3 (27:41):
Yeah, I mean, it's a terrible thing.
Speaker 1 (27:44):
And not just how he's you know what I mean,
it's just a back for the teammates, for the front office,
the coaches whose jobs I mean, like, it is a terrible.
Speaker 4 (27:56):
Thing that Chris, your reputation is tarnished, not just from
the gambling.
Speaker 3 (28:00):
But let me tell you this, you're faking an injury
to come out.
Speaker 4 (28:05):
Nobody would ever take you on that team again, you
know what I mean, Like your reputation.
Speaker 1 (28:09):
Even if he's even that's a great point, Rob, because
even if he's not banished, I wouldn't want him.
Speaker 3 (28:16):
Who's picking him up? Nobody, Nobody, nobody.
Speaker 1 (28:21):
Yeah, so it's it's unfortunate, but you know, he made
his bad if he's if he's guilty, we want to
say that. You know, he's innocent, util proven guilty, So
we don't want to condemn him, uh just yet.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
But if he is, he's you know, he certainly doesn't
look good. I'll tell you that. It doesn't look good.
It doesn't look good at all. All right, it is
the odd couple of Christian Ruby. Rob.
Speaker 1 (28:47):
Y'all know what Christian rub I don't know. Uh, we
are we are a little bronny news. The ringer was
it the ringer? Of the athletic Rob g The Ringer
did an article that interviewed a lot of scouts and
executives about Brownie Rob. We'll get into that next. It's
the Eye Couple of chrissal Rob Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 4 (29:05):
Everyone knows it's whim my man Allen.
Speaker 2 (29:10):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Odd Couple
with Chris Brussard and Rob Parker weekdays at seven pm
Eastern four pm Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the
iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 9 (29:24):
And on this day of bless up and worship, we
look back at Chris Bussard, the Man of the King,
and Rob Poker blessing the youth with tuition to school.
And we're here today to say blessed Lord.
Speaker 1 (29:39):
It is the Eye Couple Chris Brussar Rob Parker live
from the tirerat dot Com Studios. Rob, let's wrap it
up here, Brownie James. We all know last week entered
the NBA Draft. The Ringer Rob interviewed some scouts and
(30:00):
GMS executives around the league, of course anonymously, and it
wasn't pretty.
Speaker 3 (30:07):
The consensus, Rob was that they all says not ready.
Here's what a GM said. Brownie is nowhere near ready.
Speaker 1 (30:16):
He should go back to school to develop at his
own pace, or he risked getting lost in the shuffle.
Speaker 3 (30:23):
Whether or not he's playing with his dad. Now, this
is encouraging. He'd be a first rounder if he had
shot well.
Speaker 1 (30:34):
ESPN had him ranked as a lotto guy at one
point last year for a reason. But unfortunately, Briannie shot
still hasn't developed. They're probably three rounds worth of prospects
more talented than Bronnie in this class. Ninety players in
this class, So picking Bronnie is more about getting Lebron's
(30:56):
attention right now than it is about developing himself. Last thing, Rob,
an anonymous scout, said this, Brianni is an undersized, non
shooting guard. The shot looks good but doesn't go in.
Those guys scare me the most. It's either lack of
(31:18):
touch or mental and either way those take years to correct.
And he said, I love the quote unquote. He's better
with better players, spend so much from Lebron. He had
better players this year and was still in efficient. So
I mean Rob saying Bronni's not ready, I mean he
(31:38):
averaged four point eight points two point eight rebounds on
a bad team so that's not exactly a revelation. But
I don't know, Rob, it's it's I just hope that
Brianni is in a good mental space, you know, and
that he wants he's doing what he wants to do,
that he's doing what he thinks is best for him.
Speaker 3 (32:01):
And but I don't know.
Speaker 1 (32:03):
You know, we talked about will a team put together
a program to develop Ronnie? That's asking a lot, Rob,
And I don't know if it is a team gonna
do that. The Lakers might, but is another team gonna
do all that put all that into one player. I mean,
they'll work with him, and you know, and you know, Rob,
(32:25):
if you're an NBA player, you can work with the
coach as much as you want, right If you want
to stay after practice for five hours and shoot jumpers
and work on your bar handling, an assistant coach will
do it with you.
Speaker 3 (32:40):
So you can do all that. But it's a lot
you wonder is a team definitely gonna be willing to
do that? Rob?
Speaker 4 (32:47):
Yeah, right now, Chris, I'll say this, if he is
drafted by a team, I'm gonna rename.
Speaker 3 (32:55):
The league to the WWE NBA. That's what I call it. Wow, the.
Speaker 1 (33:07):
No, no, no, But I'm just saying, I mean, you
already got yes, but all us in the league, you.
Speaker 4 (33:13):
Know, But I'm just saying, all all the scouts, the people,
very few people have really and this is being honest, Chris,
which just did not did not going after Brownie. Just
this is what they do to evaluate people, you know
what I'm saying. Like, for that kid to come back
from cardiac arrest to be able to play is admirable.
(33:35):
It's admirable, but he hasn't performed. He really hasn't. And
it doesn't mean that he couldn't be picked up as
a free agent given a look see and all that.
But he's going to be drafted. I am convinced that
nobody else will touch them and the Lakers will take him.
Speaker 3 (33:52):
Chris, I really believe that.
Speaker 1 (33:55):
I was talking to a scout yesterday about this, or executive.
He said, the Lakers don't have to draft it. They
could just sign him as a free agent. You know
what I mean.
Speaker 4 (34:07):
But that's not that's not but that's not what. I
don't think Lebron wants it like that.
Speaker 3 (34:11):
Like I mean, well, they don't want it that way.
That's one thing.
Speaker 4 (34:14):
But you see, there's a difference between having your moment
in the sun for its.
Speaker 1 (34:19):
Gonna be a he might be a second rounder. It
ain't gonna be no huge moment if you're a second rounder.
Speaker 3 (34:24):
Do the Lakers have a the Lakers first guy.
Speaker 1 (34:27):
They might have a first round pick if New Orleans
doesn't take it, they've got They've definitely have a second
round pick, but they they may not have a now
it is.
Speaker 3 (34:37):
It's just not a It's just not a sexy Chris.
Speaker 1 (34:41):
If you git it. But they might not have a
first round pick. So the second round pick isn't sexy,
you know what I mean.
Speaker 3 (34:52):
But I was I was talking to the.
Speaker 1 (34:55):
As I said, this executive robe and he said, and
when he went to scout, like he went to some
of Brownie's games.
Speaker 3 (35:05):
Man, he said, yo, and.
Speaker 1 (35:07):
This is college rob and high school, so I don't
in high school too, but especially college, he said, Man,
dudes are going after Bronnie.
Speaker 3 (35:17):
He said, they go I mean, he is an exaggeration.
Speaker 1 (35:19):
He was like, it's like when he drives to the basket,
all five of the opponents try to.
Speaker 3 (35:24):
Block a shot.
Speaker 1 (35:25):
Like he said that they're trying to make a name
off of them. For themselves off Briannie and in the NBA, Rob,
you're talking about taking a guy's spot. You know, you're
talking about money. They gonna be going after him hard,
like training camp practice, man, they go. And I gotta
(35:46):
be honestly, Robbed. If I was in that position, whether
I was just trying to make the team myself, or
if I was a player on that team, especially if
I was trying to make the team myself or I
was like a bit player you know whose spot might
be in jeopardy, I would be going after him too.
Speaker 3 (36:07):
Absolutely. Why wouldn't you? Yep.
Speaker 1 (36:10):
The only reason you wouldn't is if your front buddies
with Lebron and you you know, you kind of want
to take it easy on him. But again, you're talking
about a spot in the league. The guys that you know,
Briani could potentially take their spot or they're gonna be
going after So it's he gonna be He's gonna be
in a challenging situation.
Speaker 3 (36:33):
I hope it works out for him.
Speaker 1 (36:34):
It would be a great story, you know, if he
and Lebron can play together. And I tend to agree
with you, Rob, I do think the Lakers will draft
him or he'll at least end up on the Lakers
and he'll play with Lebron and it'll.
Speaker 3 (36:48):
Believe that too. I believe it every day, Chris. I
believe it. Yeah I do.
Speaker 1 (36:52):
Yeah, yeah, all right. It is the odd couple. Chris
and Rob signing off. What you're doing tonight after the show?
Speaker 4 (37:00):
Yeah, flying back, flying to Jersey when I land, Chris,
you know you'll at some point tonight we're like, oh,
Rob has landed in Jersey, not.
Speaker 3 (37:09):
That far from where I live. Not really, but okay,
I didn't think so. All right, keep it locked here.
Speaker 1 (37:17):
On Fox Sports Radio, it is Mike Harmon and Adjason Smith.
Speaker 3 (37:22):
They bring fire, fire,
