Speaker 2 (01:07):
Joining us at the bottom of the hour.

Speaker 4 (01:09):
Rob Big good to talk to him because obviously the
Pelicans and the Lakers in a I won't say winner
takes all, but winner goes to be the seventh seed
and is rewarded by playing the Denver Nuggets, and of
course the loser has a chance of missing the playoffs

(01:32):
all together, so it'll be good to talk to him
and get New Orleans perspective. All right, Rob, As you know,
I am an official voter for the MVP. I am
voting for Luka Doncic for my MVP, Nicola Jokic, second,

(01:56):
Sjsha Gilders, Alexander from Oklahoma City, third, Jason Tatum fourth,
Gianni's Ante di Compo fifth.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
And a lot of people, I shouldn't say a lot.

Speaker 4 (02:10):
I agree with you that Jokic is going to win it,
and some people wonder, Rob, and and a lot of
feel like it is a two man race, even though
it might be probably be a lopsided race between Jokic
and Shay Gilges Alexander. But there are some people that

(02:31):
feel like SGA should not only be more in consideration,
but that he should actually get the award, Rob, that
he should be the MVP. And look there there, I mean,
there's an argument. There's an argument, and I'm going to

(02:52):
read you a few bits of that argument for him.
But they, of course are the number one seed young,
he's only twenty five. They his starting lineup is twenty one,
twenty one, I think twenty two, and twenty four.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
In addition to him, Rob, they're the youngest team in NBA.

Speaker 4 (03:17):
History to be the number one seed, and when they
did it in this Western Conference, which is one of
the most competitive conferences, races I've seen in my years
three decades of covering the NBA. And so that's that's
a very impressive thing right there. He is averaging rob

(03:40):
thirty points, that's third in the league, five and a
half rebounds, six point two assists, and he did it
efficiently fifty three percent, shooting thirty five percent from three.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
And he was right there near the top.

Speaker 4 (03:56):
He and Darren Fox the only players in the league
to average to two steals a game. The Air was
slightly like decimal points ahead of Shay in that in
that statistic, he was second in deflections in the being
in addition to being first or second in steals. And

(04:16):
I don't know, you get out for MVP. Yeah, you
count me now, you can count whatever you want. I'm
just saying, I never heard of these analytics, you know.

Speaker 5 (04:24):
I've never heard that before.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
Just kind of goes to show you know, how how
good your defense is, how disrupted.

Speaker 5 (04:31):
No, I get it. I'm just saying I never heard
that mentioned.

Speaker 4 (04:36):
And here's one Rob, he is only the third player
in NBA history to average at least thirty points and
two steals while shooting fifty percent or better from the field.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
Hold on, here's the other him wearing sneakers instead of
shoes on a Tuesday.

Speaker 5 (04:55):
And who shop at Bond's. Okay, yeah, you.

Speaker 2 (04:59):
Know players do that, gud.

Speaker 4 (05:01):
I mean it's that's legitim no steal, It's not made
up stat But the only two other players to do
it rib Steph Curry when he was the unanimous MVP
and Jordan who I believe did it from nineteen eighty
eight to nineteen ninety two. So, and he also had

(05:25):
the most thirty point games in the league this year,
Ribbed with fifty two.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
Here's my go ahead and give me your thoughts because.

Speaker 1 (05:32):
He had an unbelievable season. He's not the MVP, okay.
And he doesn't lead in any third in scoring, right,
he doesn't lead in anything steals if you want, okay,
and then every and then the other two guys Chris
who are ahead of him have better stats. They might
he might have a better scoring average than them, But overall,

(05:53):
when you look at all of their stats, they're better.
That's all I'm not. I'm not not. I know he's
a young guy. I know he's you know, let a
young team. But am I off with the stats like
they're all their stats are better?

Speaker 2 (06:06):
No, you're you're not.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
I'm trying to be fair, and I'm not trying to
rip the kid who had a tremendous season, but less
not like if you told me he let and three categories, Chris,
and he was ahead of them and two out of
the three categories, both of them, maybe I could buy it.

Speaker 5 (06:24):
Maybe. Well, No, I'm with you, that's all I'm saying.

Speaker 4 (06:30):
And he is behind Jokic and Luca on my ballot.
Is exactly what you say. I mean, Luca's stats, Come on,
what are we talking? What are we talking about? Luca
thirty three point nine points a game, first in the league,
more so Shape.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
That's almost four points more than Shape.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
Right right right there, Chris, he's already he's number one.

Speaker 5 (06:53):
You're three at that you should be the MVP. I mean,
if you just well.

Speaker 4 (06:57):
Luca nine point two rebounds, Shae five point five, So
he's got him there by almost four assists because you
could say, oh, well, of course Luca's bigger than of
course he's gonna have more rebounds. What about assists and
nine point eight assists second in the league and Shae
six point two?

Speaker 5 (07:17):
Case closed? Okay, so that's case closed.

Speaker 4 (07:20):
And then then jokis of course only averaging only twenty
six points a game, which still in the top ten,
but rob twelve point four rebounds. I think he's third, second,
third in the league in rebounds with twelve point six,
fourth twelve point four and then nine assists the game,
that's third in the league. So he's a center averaging
more assist than Shape, right, obviously more rebounds numbers, you know,

(07:45):
field goal percentage even three point percentage is more efficient
than Shape. But like you said, it's to take nothing, Chris,
he's awesome.

Speaker 5 (07:59):
Yes, what do we talk.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
About whenever we talk about major awards or Hall of
Fame or we nitpick, we're gonna look at everything and
if we're gonna do that, he doesn't lead them in
it and any of those things, right other than scoring
with deals so so so, so what is the and
and and isn't Denver and uh? Okay, see tied. I

(08:21):
know they got the type breaking. They have the same record.
They're not five record, five wins more or ten wins more,
they're the same record.

Speaker 4 (08:28):
Right right, Yeah, Okay, see and Denver, as you said,
same record. And again it's to take nothing from Shade
because he is fantastic. I'm gonna throw this into Rob.
I also believe, rightly or wrongly, and I think I
told you this before Jokic entered the season with a

(08:53):
head start.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
There's nothing to do with no fault of his own.
But Rob, there were a.

Speaker 4 (08:59):
Lot of people, as you know, a lot of voters
that feel like he should have won the MVP.

Speaker 1 (09:04):
Lash Chris your spot on and and and it was
also bad because of Kendrick Perkins. Public's out, but it's public,
you know what I mean, Like he can't won another one.
And and there was a race thing that was that
was thrown in there and he's just a stat pattern.
And then after all that, and Embiid won and I'm

(09:26):
not saying that b didn't have an MVP season, But
after all that, then Jokic went out there, Chris and
put on a clinic and a postseason average a triple
double throughout that. Okay, so you can't tell me that.
People went back and said, what were we doing? What
were we well and right? And it was like this year. Now,
I'm gonna be honest, I think MB.

Speaker 4 (09:47):
Was playing so well early on that he actually overcame
that sentiment. Yes he was, and I think he would
like at that moment, I think he was the MVP,
but obviously he got hurt. He's not even qualified now
as far as games play. But yeah, I think Rob
that was the case. And so I think barring you know,
look Rob, all the all time greats in any given

(10:09):
era have MVP years. What year didn't Jordan have an
MVP year? I mean when he you know, in his.

Speaker 1 (10:17):
Prime numbers never went down for ten straight years.

Speaker 5 (10:23):
What year was a down year?

Speaker 4 (10:24):
I don't know, a prime What year was you know, Durant,
I mean we could. It's just Jim Duncan, like these
players have great years, So storylines, history, all types of
things come into play. And so I think Jokic started
with the head start can obviously play tremendously and he's

(10:45):
that's why he's likely to.

Speaker 2 (10:47):
Win or going to win.

Speaker 4 (10:48):
And Rob, I think once he wins it this year,
I think he'll actually start next season as somewhat of
a deficit, you know, where people will be like, okay,
you know, you hear the term voter fatigue, and I
think it'll be a feeling like, Okay, he's got his three,
not that he can't win it, but I think he'll
have to just be just heading shoulders above everyone else

(11:11):
in various ways. I think next year, Rob, assuming Jokic
wins it this year, I do think that Shaye and
Luca will enter with kind of head starts, you know,
like I think people will be looking at them as, Okay,

(11:32):
this is one of them we think is gonna get it.
This is his turn, and as long as they play great.
I mean, we'll see which one ends up winning it,
and it may be somebody else, but I think those
two will kind of be the favorites next year. So
that's how we look at it, Rob rob G. We

(11:54):
mentioned some people think SGA is the MVP. One of
those people is right here, the producer, Rob G. So,
Rob G, you heard our arguments.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
What are your thoughts?

Speaker 5 (12:06):
I only got two words for you, Chris and Rob
what's up?

Speaker 2 (12:09):
Stop it?

Speaker 5 (12:10):
Here we go?

Speaker 2 (12:11):
Are you kidding me right now?

Speaker 5 (12:13):
Yes?

Speaker 6 (12:13):
Okay, Rob, Shay you'll just Alexander without any other All
Star caliber teammate.

Speaker 5 (12:21):
What are you talking about?

Speaker 6 (12:22):
What won the Western Conference in the most competitive conference
since because even before that Rob they are the youngest team,
youngest roster to earn the top overall seat in either
conference since Moby Dick.

Speaker 2 (12:43):
Exactly, you're making my chest for going.

Speaker 4 (12:45):
To be a perennial all right now. He could probably
might make an All Defensive team. Jalen Williams is also
a guy that's gonna make some All Tar teams. And remember,
Jogic didn't have a teammate made an All Star team either,
And yes, Jamal Murray is that caliber player, but he
also missed almost.

Speaker 6 (13:06):
So here's the thing that you guys made the case
as to why Shay should not win it, and it's
a very strong case. Right, here's a very strong case
as to why he should. Nikola Jokic has the best
starting five in the NBA, point blank period. That's starting five, Chemistry, cohesiveness,
the way they fit together, barn On the best in
the league. Luka Dancis has an All NBA caliber sidekick

(13:29):
in Kyrie Irving, Shay Gilgos, Alexander has neither of those things. Okay,
if you're looking at just raw numbers, yeah, Luca hasn't been.
You know why because Lucas usage rate is thirty six.
The gap between Luca and Shaye and usage ra is
the same distance between Shae and Palo Banco.

Speaker 5 (13:45):
So I imagine you.

Speaker 2 (13:46):
Have to be capable of handling that usage. Ready, you don't.

Speaker 6 (13:50):
You don't think if Shae handled the ball thirty six
at the time he'd had better numbers. He probably would,
But he probably would right because he does it because
that's the way Luca plays. I'm not trying to make
this argument, but Chris, you have self has said you
don't trust Luca to win a championship playing that style
of basketball.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
I don't think the Okay, so he gonna win the championships.
I don't either.

Speaker 5 (14:09):
I don't either.

Speaker 6 (14:10):
That's because their team is so young, because they're so
far ahead of schedule, because of Shay gild just Alzetta.

Speaker 5 (14:16):
Here's another one.

Speaker 6 (14:17):
His one hundred and twelve points in the clutch is
seventh in the league, which is all right, it's not
too bad.

Speaker 5 (14:23):
That's not that impressible. But here's the thing seven. Here's
the thing he.

Speaker 4 (14:27):
Does sad I think I got h third on my
clutch player.

Speaker 6 (14:32):
He does it on fifty eight percent shooting, which is
by far the most efficient clutch player in the NBA.
That's the reason why they are third in the league
in clutch time wins. That's why they're number one in
the toughest conference in a decade. Like Shay Gildocs, Alexander
is getting short changed because his stats are not super

(14:55):
gaudy like Lucas.

Speaker 2 (14:57):
But that's a part of it.

Speaker 4 (14:58):
But Luca gotta be guys, the stats aren't super gaudy.

Speaker 6 (15:03):
He's seven games ahead, and they are good thirty games
ahead of him. Chris winning is supposed to be the
most most important thing here.

Speaker 4 (15:11):
Hold on, let me let me say this, go ahead,
because here's the thing. You threw out all this you
know you ain't, yes, because you threw out all this
even how many games did Kyrie miss this year?

Speaker 2 (15:22):
About almost thirty?

Speaker 3 (15:23):
Yes?

Speaker 4 (15:23):
Okay, all right? And the same thing for Jamal Murray
didn Jamal? Let me look it like look at the
hold on, hold on, okay, let me look at the thunder.
Let's see Jalen Williams nay seventy one game chat Holger, Wow,
all lady two gosh giddy eighty, Why lou dor seventy nine?

Speaker 2 (15:41):
Why they had no injury?

Speaker 5 (15:43):
Thank you?

Speaker 2 (15:43):
Here's you want to say.

Speaker 4 (15:45):
So, don't give me all that what Jamal Murray and
Kyrie did.

Speaker 2 (15:49):
They weren't there for a third of the series.

Speaker 6 (15:52):
You want to play that game, you know you know
what that is without without yok two and one. You
know what the uh mass record with the LUCA is
four and actually is four and six because two games
they tanked this week on purpose. You know what the
record is about Shay two and five boom got you a.

Speaker 2 (16:12):
Five four eight. It's pretty club. No, it's not. Of
the games were tanked on purpose. No, stop it it's
pretty club.

Speaker 5 (16:20):
No, rob G, rob G. You don't. Shay is not winning.
You don't.

Speaker 6 (16:24):
He's not going to win because too many people think
like you and Chris.

Speaker 2 (16:27):
No, I'm the hard facts.

Speaker 5 (16:30):
Rod did give you hard facts.

Speaker 2 (16:32):
I mean thirty four, ten and nine.

Speaker 1 (16:36):
If you're gonna and if you're gonna win the m
v P, Chris, you gotta have some something like that,
like like for real, I'm just like it's gotta be
like wow, look at what he put together and his
numbers are really good, but they're not m v P.

Speaker 2 (16:50):
Now this is what Rob G did and it's lazy.

Speaker 4 (16:54):
Oh geez, best best player, the best team, and then
that's where on the best record.

Speaker 2 (17:00):
That's not let me stop it. We don't need voters
for that.

Speaker 1 (17:04):
And anything ignoring story and he barely barely has the
best record.

Speaker 5 (17:09):
It's a tie, great tie.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
Let's give it to Jason Tatum.

Speaker 6 (17:13):
They ran away with so much agism going on. They
ran away with if you're twenty five and under, they
don't respect you.

Speaker 5 (17:20):
That's rob This was ugly.

Speaker 6 (17:22):
This was I mean, this was this embarrassed you on
your show, they should say Rob G presents the odd couple.

Speaker 7 (17:29):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (17:30):
On eight seven, seven ninety nine on Fox, should sga

your thoughts?

Speaker 5 (19:38):
All right, let's start with Mark and Sacramento. You're on
the couple Fox Sports Radio. What's up? Mark?

Speaker 7 (19:45):
What's going on? Gentlemen? I waited till the playoffs. Guy
here in the brackets came up before I were talked
about this, so we haven't talked in a while. I
love Joker, He's the last lean to the eighties in
low post basketball. Love watching him from that post. But
he does have the best starting five. Those guys are champions,
and I want to say this, I think Shayei Alexander

(20:09):
is the MVP because he's playing with a bunch of
NBA babies besides Gordon Hayward and Lewis Dort. And he
did it in the toughest conference we've seen. I was
gonna say, in forty years since the Eastern Conference in
the mid eighties, and he did it with a bunch
of babies, and he's been more efficient. He didn't have
to have triple doubles. That's the other thing. We have
counting triple doubles now since Russ we just counting triple doubles.

(20:31):
And forgetting to do the one thing, Chris, you always
say we look at the intangibles. You always say that
you are right.

Speaker 9 (20:37):
His intangibles are off the chart with a bunch of
mark Is he gonna win? No, because the voters have
already locked in on the narratives weeks before, and they
didn't let it play out to the end. If they
had known that they were gonna.

Speaker 7 (20:50):
Win this this this conference, I bet you they might
have voted.

Speaker 2 (20:54):
Well, no, I mean the vote, the voting.

Speaker 9 (21:00):
But the.

Speaker 4 (21:02):
Straw pole is it shouldn't I mean, you shouldn't bind
yourself to the straw pole, right because the brack we
don't even have the ballots yet. They're coming this week,
so guys could vote. Guys could vote for Shade if
they want. And here's the other thing about but hold on,
here's the thing about Shade too.

Speaker 2 (21:21):
Shae is not a big assist guy.

Speaker 4 (21:23):
I mean, he's just not and so he's never been
a big assist guy.

Speaker 7 (21:27):
They're more efficient, they're more efficient.

Speaker 2 (21:31):
Yeah, if you're more then you can have more assists.
Guys are making buckets.

Speaker 7 (21:38):
I guess I'm not a numbers crackhead. I guess I
watched the games, but that's just my opinion.

Speaker 2 (21:42):
Well, we don't watch the games.

Speaker 4 (21:44):
We don't watch the games, all right, Mark, all right,
don't call up if you think we don't watch the games,
then we come on.

Speaker 7 (21:50):
Mark.

Speaker 2 (21:50):
You can't gin't get no pushback. You call up here
and push back on us.

Speaker 5 (21:53):
All right, here we go.

Speaker 2 (21:54):
We can't quick.

Speaker 5 (21:55):
We got Rae, Ralphie Hell and Cincinnadi. You're on the
hocome Fox Sports Radio. What's up, Raffy, what's up?

Speaker 9 (22:02):
My brother?

Speaker 7 (22:03):
Yeah?

Speaker 10 (22:03):
A hey, Butter Shaye Butter a bad dude.

Speaker 11 (22:06):
Man, love him a lot.

Speaker 10 (22:07):
He is valuable, but he ain't the most valuable player
for the NBA this year. That goes to the Joker.
Joker should have had it last year. I'm still waiting
on the Seed. Just one aspect of Joker's game, man,
where he's not flawless. I mean, he's efficient and I
don't care what his starting lineup is around him. That
brother right there, that cat in that that paint man.

(22:30):
He does everything. If I need a rebound, right, Shaye
can get me a rebound. But I bet you joker
gonna get that rebound before him. And it's not a
thing about Shay Lack because I never that never, but
Dennis Rodden. But I'm just saying that the joker he is,
he's flawless. I mean, I get that.

Speaker 5 (22:51):
We got it welme against you. I appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (22:54):
Thank you. Yeah, we got Antonio Daniels around the corner.

Speaker 3 (22:57):

said that a week or two ago.

Speaker 5 (23:21):
All right, So there you go's gonna have a He's.

Speaker 2 (23:23):

Speaker 5 (23:45):
Great?

Speaker 2 (23:45):
We are great now.

Speaker 4 (23:46):
Of course we want to get to the Pelicans pretty quickly.
But first let's start here. Who's your who's got your vote.

Speaker 5 (23:53):
For m v P this year?

Speaker 11 (23:56):
Man, this is a hard one. I'm not gonna lie
to you. This is the hard one.

Speaker 12 (24:00):
Like if I had to vote today, I would vote
in Nicola Jokis firm where its team is as far
as there's there's a difference, Like there's no difference as
far as record is concerned. And you know how they say,
like you you actually.

Speaker 11 (24:16):
Have to beat the champions, So he has to be
dethroned from that.

Speaker 12 (24:19):
That that spot for me. Obviously, Joel ANDB is not
in the running. Lucas had a fantastic year. Lucas had
a great year, but five wins, it's a big difference.
And the thing about shake Yose Alexander, I would never
be wrong if somebody gave them a vote, I would
never tell them that they're wrong. But when you look
at what Nicola Jokis has done statistically across the board,

(24:45):
not just points, but also rebounds and it's hard, man,
it's hard not to vote for him.

Speaker 2 (24:53):
Now, that's a great class.

Speaker 4 (24:54):
I voted Luca, but I think I understand.

Speaker 2 (25:00):
I think I understand that too.

Speaker 4 (25:02):
Yeah, all right, so I think the Lakers were they
three and one against the Pelicans this year, a lot
of people feel like tomorrow night is a pretty much
a done deal. I assume you don't correct me if
I'm wrong, But what why would you do? You think
the Pelicans have a good shot at winning tomorrow If
indeed you feel that way.

Speaker 12 (25:24):
You know, for me one, this team has always responded
well to lossus all your longs. This team has persevered.

Speaker 11 (25:30):
Extremely well, and I'm.

Speaker 12 (25:33):
Interested to see the adjustments that are made. That's what
I'm because you know, this time of the year is
no longer a game of checkers that was more about chess.
And the benefit to losing to the Lakers you did
the way you did forty eight hours ago is the
fact that you're right back up against So it's not
like these other situations where you lost then.

Speaker 11 (25:54):
You had it had time to settle. Now you're playing
ten or fifteen other teams and you're right back again.
This is the quick into a playoff series.

Speaker 12 (26:01):
That's it, and you think of it like the Lakers
won Game one.

Speaker 11 (26:05):
Now here's the thing. All you have to do is
win game two. That's it.

Speaker 12 (26:09):
You have to do is win game two. The weird
thing about the New Orleans Pelicans, though, throughout the course
of this year, for whatever reason, they are a much
better road team than they are home teams. And for
a young, inexperienced team, that's like, that's backwards. That's usually
not the way it is. Usually young teams are really
really good at home because they feed up the crowd and.

Speaker 11 (26:30):
They struggle on the road. New Orleans has the most
road wins.

Speaker 12 (26:33):
Of any team in the NBA this year, but at
home they're above five hundred, but they haven't been nearly
as good at home as they are on the road.
I am more interested than anything else to see some
of the slight adjustments that are made in the sense
of urgency that's taken in tomorrow game as opposed to
Game eighty two.

Speaker 4 (26:51):
Let me ask this quickly rout now, brandon Ingram was
back yesterday for the first time in weeks, and obviously
that's an adjustment type player.

Speaker 2 (27:00):
So you know, it's not easy as putting in a
role player.

Speaker 4 (27:04):
How much of a factor do you think that was
yesterday and do you think it'll be a factor, you know,
just in terms of them playing differently with Brandon than
they do without him.

Speaker 11 (27:15):
You know, my thing is, you know why I think
it was a factor. It wasn't the fact.

Speaker 12 (27:18):
That be I returned. It's the fact that be I
returned on a minister restriction. That's what made it difficult.
It's not the fact that he returned. It's like when
a guy returns back, he returns back. But when you're
telling me you have a start that's returning back for
twenty minutes, that's the part that makes it difficult because
you played the last twelve games without him. You were

(27:39):
on that road trip, that four game road trip without him.
Now if you're saying he's coming back, and he said
he can play up to thirty minutes, thirty five minutes,
whatever it may be, because if you win, you're in
different casing scenario. But when you come back on the
last game of the season with a minis restriction, it's
not just tough on him, it's tough on everybody around
him because he's in a nice little groove and then

(27:59):
he has to come out. He comes back in. He
did a night for the groove, and everybody has to
come out. Mean, he has to come back out. It's
different with a role player because with a role player,
you're not trying to get that role player of the ball.
He's not a huge part of the offense. Role Players
get in where they fit in. Stars, everything is built
around them to win. That star who's accustomed to having

(28:20):
everything ran through him, is only available for twenty minutes
when he hasn't been available for the last twelve games.
That's an adjustment for all involved, including the coaching staff.

Speaker 2 (28:30):
Is he gonna be on the minutes restriction tomorrow?

Speaker 10 (28:33):
I don't know.

Speaker 11 (28:34):
I do not know that. I honestly, bris I wish
I knew the answer to that question.

Speaker 2 (28:41):
Like what you say it makes sense, it's yeah, I
hope he's.

Speaker 12 (28:44):
Not right, because it's just kind of it makes everything
a little different again, if you're a role player on
twenty minutes, like, that's cool, that's cool.

Speaker 11 (28:55):
You know you're about five minutes off what you do anyway,
nobody's concerned with getting you ball.

Speaker 12 (29:00):
You know, the office isn't running through you. But when
you're brandon ingram, you're leading the team in assists averages
twenty one points a game, like you're accustomed to a
level of offensive responsibility and that makes it tough on
all involved.

Speaker 1 (29:13):
And Tony, I just got to ask one thing. As
a former athlete, you know, there's people kicking around stuff
to the Lakers that they should lose on purpose, so
because this way they could avoid playing Denver.

Speaker 5 (29:25):
I just I said that sounds like somebody who has
never played.

Speaker 1 (29:29):
I can't imagine a professional athlete going into a game
trying to lose.

Speaker 11 (29:35):
Okay, who would say that who wasn't Christ was.

Speaker 5 (29:42):
On my berg?

Speaker 11 (29:44):
I mean, okay, here's the thing with people, you know, yeah, yeah,
but number one, that literally makes no sense because basically,
I feel weird even address this that this is actually
an issue in the.

Speaker 12 (30:03):
Play a tournament. During the play at tournament, so we
know how this works. Anything can happen, Anything can happens.

Speaker 11 (30:10):
So basically, you're saying.

Speaker 12 (30:13):
It's you're you're you you should throw the game for
boy Timber because you struggling Timber because they swept you
last year.

Speaker 11 (30:20):
Who knows what happens in the next game.

Speaker 13 (30:23):
Who knows what happens in Guane versus who yes, wasn't
about it. Somebody can come out and turn your angle
to start the game, like, yes, that is a that
is a non competitive, foolish way of thinking, like you don't.
You don't as a competitive athlete, you don't duck smoke.

Speaker 2 (30:41):
It doesn't even make sense.

Speaker 1 (30:42):
If you're gonna do that good and you're gonna be
a champion, right, eventually you're gonna have to you have
to face Denver.

Speaker 5 (30:48):
What does it matter if it is an hour later?

Speaker 11 (30:51):
And I'll tell you what. If it's the Lakers, I'd
rather face them when I'm playing extremely well. You know
what I mean? The team has been playing extremely well
with the Lakes, Joe, bring them on that, bring them out.
I don't want to play them later on, after we
have to go through two or three seven game series
in Lebron thirty nine years of age, just starting to
catch up. I don't want to do that.

Speaker 2 (31:11):
If it is.

Speaker 4 (31:14):
If it is the Lakers, do you give them much
of a chance against the Nuggets.

Speaker 11 (31:20):
I don't even want to think about the Lakers versus Nuggets.

Speaker 5 (31:24):
There you go, we got you, all right.

Speaker 4 (31:26):
How much of a chance does New Orleans have if
they faced the Nuggets?

Speaker 12 (31:31):
My thing is I felt for the last couple of
years that when New Orleans is holding healthy, it's a
it's a good look at the past couple of years
when the Pelicans are whodly healthy. Look at those games
versus themper.

Speaker 11 (31:44):
Just look them up. They always come down to the
last for three minutes.

Speaker 5 (31:48):
But are they going to win?

Speaker 1 (31:49):
We can talk about close games and close losses.

Speaker 11 (31:54):
Look, that's going to be a tall task all.

Speaker 1 (31:56):
I'm gonna tell you, Okay, I think the Pelicans could
be The Pelicans could beat the Nuggets, the Chicken Nuggets.

Speaker 7 (32:03):
That is.

Speaker 4 (32:05):
No thank you, Antonio for not the polite laugh that
I gave, and that so many of our.

Speaker 11 (32:14):
Guests name you know what wrong do I'll usually get.

Speaker 4 (32:19):
A yeah, yeah, you couldn't even do that.

Speaker 5 (32:27):
I'll take it back.

Speaker 4 (32:28):
That's our man, and he enjoyed the game Tomorrow.

Speaker 11 (32:31):
I can't wait, man, for sure.

Speaker 12 (32:34):
Appreciate it.

All Right, it's The Odd Couple live from the tire
Rack dot Com Studios, wrapping up a three hour show
and Rob, you wanted to say something about John Sterling,
who is retiring, a longtime Yankees broadcaster.

Speaker 1 (33:12):
Who is retiring, and other people around the country. Chris
might remember, like you know, John Sterling also did Atlanta
Hawks and Braves. When I was a kid growing up,
he was the New York Islanders announcer. Chris and I
grew up listening to his talk show. He had a
talk show on WMCA in New York and I never

(33:36):
missed it. Yes, but I didn't miss it. And I'm
talking about for real. You know, I was a kid,
But imagine being in the seventh eighth grade Chris listening.

Speaker 5 (33:45):
To sports talk radio. But that's what I did, and
not vividly.

Speaker 1 (33:48):
I even wrote a homework assignment talking about listening to him.

Speaker 5 (33:53):
I took it in and showed it to him. You know.

Speaker 1 (33:55):
Once I first got to New York, and I used
to you know, go to Yankees or whatever, and I
talked to him and I just saw him at the
All Star I mean I just saw him at opening
day in Houston for the Yankees, and he said to
me I still love doing it, but the travel, I
just can't travel.

Speaker 5 (34:11):
He said it. He said, oh it is he eighty five?

Speaker 1 (34:14):
Oh god, yeah, he's trying to still travel around on
that schedule.

Speaker 5 (34:17):
Chris. It's a lot eighty five years old. So for
him to retire immediate, effective immediately, not even next week
or you know what I mean, tell you that he
can't do it anymore. Yeah, but he was colorful, Chris.

Speaker 1 (34:31):
You know you've heard all of his calls, and we
got a little montage of some of the John Sterling calls.
Let's take a listen to the legendary John Sterling as
he calls it a career one.

Speaker 14 (34:44):
Two, swung and driven, a heap left tour the line,
cheers gone, Aaron judge line run right down the line,
A judge in blast.

Speaker 15 (34:58):
All right, here comes the judge. It's an Ebon crumb
a rod. Oh you can bank, I'm chase Edlely Liz
Jedly Ho ho, you're on a mark to Sheriff Ryan McCann.
Oh McCann, can I guess McCann can Garrett keeping up

(35:18):
with the Joneses. Stephen Drew, he serves a drewski and
the second deck.

Speaker 1 (35:24):
And right and he had a name for everybody, Chris,
you know, a home run call colorful energy and what pipes?

Speaker 7 (35:32):
Right?

Speaker 5 (35:33):
Doesn't he sound great?

Speaker 7 (35:35):
No?

Speaker 2 (35:35):
He said his voice, you know, I mean the legendary
ones got the voice.

Speaker 5 (35:39):
Yeah, you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (35:40):
He's one of them, no doubt about it.

Speaker 1 (35:42):
And here's the other thing too, about announcers that are
part of the soundtrack of your life. Like I saw
a lot of stuff on social media, people talking about,
you know, heartbroken or whatever, and Chris is just something
that's always on, you know what I mean. And somebody
who's been around doing games is nineteen eighty nine, and
somebody the announcers who when Vince Scully retired from the Dodgers,

(36:03):
who came along when they moved from Brooklyn to Los Angeles,
you know, and people grow up with it and it's
in the background, probably Vince Scully when first I first
came to LA which was the most unbelievable thing I'd
ever heard. Chris, I was covering the Reds. I'm walking
the stands, and people brought their transistor radios to the

(36:27):
game so they could listen to Vince Scully.

Speaker 5 (36:30):
Why they watch it live, Chris, that's incredible. I couldn't
believe it. As I walked around, I'm like, what is this?
I hear these radios, you know what I mean.

Speaker 1 (36:40):
I'm like, they're listening because they wanted to hear Vince
and John Sterling. He carved out a niche. He wasn't
there for you know, fifty years, Chris, but from eighty
nine to hear twenty twenty four, he made a name
in Yankee lore. And people will always remember him for
his calls and his enthusiasm and everything and the Yankees

(37:03):
that give him credit to Susan Wallman. Think about this,
a female color analyst on baseball, Chris on the radio,
Susan Walman. And you know Susan because she used to
cover the NBA, remember right, But I don't know her
from the NBA but.

Speaker 2 (37:23):
New York.

Speaker 4 (37:25):
Yeah, she when I moved to New York, she was
already doing the yan but she was, you know, a
staple you know, with the Yankees, So I knew.

Speaker 2 (37:34):
It from there.

Speaker 4 (37:34):
But you're right, like, growing up, there are certain voices
you associate with certain teams or sports. I associated Vince
Scully and Joe Garrett Giola with base baseball just from
watching those games on Saturday afternoons, right, the game of
the week on NBC.

Speaker 1 (37:53):
I used to love that, you know, I worked with
his son. I worked with his son, Steve Garagiola. He
worked in Detroit for a long time.

Speaker 5 (38:00):
I'm Chris. Oh wow, okay, god.

Speaker 4 (38:02):
Yeah yeah, so so yeah, it'll he will be missed too.
So who's replacing him?

Speaker 2 (38:07):
Did they?

Speaker 1 (38:08):
So they didn't say. I'm sure they'll. They got some
young guys. But this is gonna happen all across baseball.

Speaker 2 (38:13):
Oh yeah, you're right.

Speaker 1 (38:14):
The tide is turning. And I tell all my students,
if you're getting into the business right now, in the
next eight years, Chris, five to eight years. And you
notice too, even even in our business, a lot of
people are older, a lot of retirements are coming.

Speaker 2 (38:31):
Oh yeah, no, no doubt, no doubt.

Speaker 1 (38:33):
Man.

Speaker 2 (38:34):
All right, it is the couple. Chris Bruce r. Rob
Parker live from the tire rack dot Com studios. We
are signing signing off, but don't you sign off?

Speaker 4 (38:44):
